Sorry one more thought and then I'll shut up for the afternoon.
There's like this character type that's emerged within video games, literature, and TV from Millenials and Gen X. The character is generally an older male who comes from a past where he's usually done something immoral and struggles with guilt, usually maladaptively with substances, until he becomes a mentor to usually a younger female character. He goes from just protecting himself and keeping his knowledge private to wanting to protect her and teaching her how to survive. See:
Joel and Ellie (Last of Us)
Booker and Elizabeth (Bioshock Infinite)
Haymitch and Katniss (Hunger Games)
The Mandelorian and Grogu (not a female character, but trope still stands)
Lee Everett and Clementine (The Walking Dead)
Geralt and Ciri (The Witcher)
Eleven and Hopper (Stranger Things)
This trope evolved from the existing dynamic that centered on a mentor/mentee relationship between two men (Luke and Yoda/Obi-Wan, Sean and Will in Good Will Hunting, etc.). But anyways, I'd love to see a show, a video game, or a book that for once centers on a similar trope but instead the mentor and mentee are both female. Some bitter, survival-minded older woman haunted by her past and with detachment issues navigating an apocalyptic scene until she stumble upons a younger girl full of wonder, humor, and curiosity who she gradually begins to center her purpose around protecting.
realizing that we’re getting barbie, dune 2, the little mermaid, the hunger games prequel, the marvels, gotg vol 3, across the spiderverse, john wick 4, the last of us, shadow and bone s2, the witcher s3, the Mandalorian s3, etc…the (tumblr) fandoms will be eating GOOD this year
Please will you complete this two minute anonymous survey:
I want to know what fantasy themes, characterisations and cultures you like or want to see more of, so I can write a YA fantasy novel that will reflect what contemporary people want to see more of in books!
If the survey goes well, I'm more than happy to share the results!
I haven't done one of these in a long time, I need motivation to write, and I'm off work for the coming week, so we're doing a five-days long
Flash fic week
What it is: A micro even where anyone can send me a writing prompt and I fill it within 100-500 words. No beta, no spellcheck, but a slim chance of me making things longer if I feel inspired.
What the results look like: I compile all my flash fics in this AO3 series, in case you want to see what that looks like.
The dates: April 15 to April 19 2024, Bangkok time. I'm being loosey goosey with the deadlines though so don't be afraid to send prompts early or late x)
The prompts: can be a pairing, a first sentence, or a general setting (ie. "Everlark Pacific Rim AU" or "BoB Coffeeshop AU"), or taken from my writing games tag.
If you don't specify characters or pairing, I'll just go with whatever I feel like writing x)
The fandoms: For a full list of fandoms I've written for, see my AO3 profile, feel free to pick any of them!
Fandoms I'm particularly into (writing wise) at the moment:
Band of Brothers
Saint Seiya
The Hunger Games
The Witcher
Good Omens
And that's about all you need to know for this round, please prompt away :D

i have more but this is getting long lol. i don’t do doubles. i love smut but am looking for smut with plot and a bit of angst. i prefer to write bratty / power bottoms. i’m a novella writer (around 3-5 paras at a min.) and a slow replier, sometimes i get 3-5 replies a week, sometimes 1 or none for a few days, i'm looking for someone who is patient as i am very chill with reply pace.
will ask for a writing sample as well as i want to make sure i’m finding the right partners. pls like this and i’ll reach out ❤️
This is probably a very unpopular opinion as i've seen many a person criticise an adaption for not remaining faithful to the source material... but am i the only one that actually enjoys when changes happen? At the end of the day, every adaption will have something that makes it differ from the source, whether its something as small as someone's hair colour or as large as an entirely different plotline.
So really, if i wanted a truly faithful telling of the original story i'd just read the books, play the game, or consume whatever the original source material was.
And for me that's where the fun of adaptions come in.
It's like mythology- a story can have many different tellings and thats super fun! A script writer may think of something which the original author did not, but is an interesting take nonetheless. Furthermore, where one person may stay loyal to the original and claim it as their favoured rendition, for another, the adaption might just strike a deeper chord within. So, even with just that in mind, both serve a purpose to those consuming it.
Really, to me, there is no one true telling of a story, for they are all important to someone. Afterall, it is a very human trait for a story to evolve as different people tell it- you see it all throughout history.
At the end of the day, as long as the characters or plot being told captivates me, i'll enjoy the story being told.
tl:dr- adaptions are fun, yes even the unfaithful ones
