SWEET MOMENTS WITH YAN. SASUKE
Note: Thank you!
Pairing: Yandere! Sasuke x gender neutral! reader
Format: Headcanons, 2nd person
WARNING(S): slight yandere themes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🍙 During his lengthy endeavors, you very rarely escape his thoughts. SASUKE has no need for little trinkets to remind him of his journeys but he thinks you might. Thus he spends a hefty amount on souvenirs just for you. The giddy expression on your face, when he gifts you a poorly wrapped necklace or tiny model of some sort turns him a very deep shade of pink.
🍙 SASUKE doesn’t often accompany you in many actions that isn't a peaceful walk around the village; well unless you ask him to. But when he does it's the most serene thing. Whether it be his fingers loosely intertwined with yours or an arm gently resting on your shoulders, he’s always holding you. It's honestly for his own pleasure but he swears it's so you don’t get lost. Pfft, who’s he kidding?
🍙 Truthfully a good listener. You could be rambling about God knows what for what seems to be hours on end, and SASUKE would listen all the same. And believe it or not, get actually gives good advice. He may be a stoic man, although he might be able to pull some sentiments out of his ass for your sake.
🍙 You may think he’s uninterested but it’s quite the opposite; he’s practically hanging onto every word. If you find yourself lost in thought, pondering your partners' interest, Sasuke will bring you right back. “You’re distracted.” He murmurs, gazing intently into your dazed orbs. “What’s caused your thoughts to drift?”
🍙 It's something he picked up from his late brother, but it remains one of his softer actions. When you do or say something dumb, SASUKE will flick you on the forehead. It's neither extremely light nor rough; it's just enough for you to cover his forehead and even shoot him a scowl. You’ll let him have it, it’s not every day you get to see him smile too peacefully.
🍙 On his few lazy days, THE UCHIHA can occasionally be found “sleeping in” (only for you). He’d nip and kiss your neck with no intentions of going any further. Your laughter is music to his ears; so merry and carefree. Try not to be too surprised when you finally see yourself in the mirror, red bruises sprinkled all across your neckline. Sasuke didn’t intend on seducing you, however, marking you wasn’t out of the question!
🍙 However that doesn’t mean his disfavored qualities have escaped him. Every night SASUKE will not fail to hold you close, possessively so, as he watches you slowly nod off to your fatigue. Times like these are always his favorite. Just being able to bask in your warmth and have you all to himself is like a dream come true. He won't allow anyone else to savor this image, not even in death.

Facts (unasked for) and headcanons (of little value and highly questionable) about my future story "My brother is an only child" (it is uncertain whether it will ever see HTML format and consequent publication, but I need to get rid of it a little)
Sakumo and Dai knew each other long before their respective children were born, yet it was a superficial acquaintance that became more close just several years later
there never existed a Maito Clan, all of Dai's relatives were simple villagers, not particularly chakra talented and thus unfit for a ninja's life; Dai became the first to express interest in it
there was a Clan branch of the Inuzuka Clan, the Inuiwa Clan, which, despite a high level of sensorial ability, was mainly employed in ninken training. Distinctive features were the gray fang-shaped paints below their eyes and their preference for wolf packs rather than dogs. Rouna and few others were children of the last of the Inuiwa Clan
Sakumo was born and raised in Konoha, although none of his family were from the Land of Fire; they came from the Land of Iron, specifically the area known as the Iron Mountains (on the border between the Land of Lakes, the Land of Sound, and the Land of Fire)
technically, both Gai and Kakashi still have some, albeit few, distant relatives, though neither of them is aware of it, and the degree of parentage is so meager that it doesn't actually matter at all
unlike Kakashi, Gai always knew who his mother was; indeed, the memory of her has been passed down from Dai's stories, as well as from the distinctive color scheme of green-red-orange in their outfits
Kakashi's mother was widely known throughout Konoha, yet despite the still existence of people who could remember her, no one ever uttered a word as a result of an incident that saw Sakumo implode into a rare tantrum that led many to swear never to mention his beloved partner ever again
everything related to the Hatake Clan, its origins, history, techniques and abilities, as well as any personal lifetime memories, was stored and concealed by Sakumo into intricately sealed boxes that Kakashi found only several years after his father's death; yet he never opened
Gai has a whole collection of photographs of his family but, unlike those of his father, or himself as a child and teenager, few have seen the ones portraying his mother
Kakashi is, through paternal heritage, partially from the Land of Iron. Gai is, by maternal heritage, partially from the Land of Earth. However, only Gai is aware of his mixed ancestry
there are only two people left, Tsunade and Aburame Shigeru, who knew, albeit marginally, Gai's mother
Tsunade and Aburame Shigeru are also the only ones with vivid memories of Uchiha Dakini, Obito's grandmother as well as one of the last survivors of the time of the first two great shinobi wars
Obito was, as a matter of fact, great-grandson of Madara, while Sasuke is great-great-grandson of Izuna
since countless data and reports have been lost years ago much history regarding the Uchiha Clan is still as unclear and confusing as uncertain is whether or not other Uchiha actually still live outside Konoha's borders
on the contrary the actual lineage of the Senju Clan and the Uzumaki Clan has been widely verified to have been reduced to a few people, namely Tsunade is the last of the Senju Clan, while Naruto and Karin are the only two descendants of the Uzumaki Clan
the kinship between Naruto and Tsunade is quite remote and would be 4th grade great-great aunt, while the kinship with Karin and Nagato is 3rd cousin, instead Karin and Nagato were 2nd cousins
although it is not known, practically to anyone, Jiraiya was 3rd cousin to Kakashi and was 2nd cousin with Sakumo
Gai never knew his relatives on maternal side due to the latter's choice, who always rejected to meet him
ironically Jiraiya, throughout his long travels in distant Lands, never learned of his origins, instead he found the Clan of which Orochimaru is an unaware descendant, yet he never had the opportunity to tell them
Tenten and Rock Lee were both orphaned at just a year old; both children of civilians, they have no memory about the tragedy that led to their parents' deaths
the appellative Rock is neither a Clan nor a surname, but rather a name by which the orphanage workers began to address Lee and, over time, became an inherent part of the name itself until it became a whole
similarly, Tenten's name was, originally, just Ten, but throughout her childhood days it was so numerous the occasions when the orphanage workers had to call her or shout it out loud to search for her that, eventually, Ten turned into Tenten and it ended up becoming her official name
unofficially, Tenten, Rock Lee, and Neji share the same surname. Officially, Tenten has no surname, Lee is assumed to be Rock's surname, and Neji is considered a Hyūga
Sakura is the only one on her team who has no relatives, neither immediate nor ancestor, who has ever been a ninja. Her entire family has always been all civilians, making her de facto the one astounding exception
Aburame Shino regards himself as a widower and is unknown, even to his teammates, as to why, when he must or is required, he defines himself as such
no biographical information is available, or disclosed, about the Kazekage's future bride-to-be, whose only certain facts involve her provenance from outside the borders of the Land of Wind
thirty, of men with political power or economic prestige, offered their daughters or sisters as brides, and ten, of Daimyō or Kings from distant Lands, proposed arranged marriages upon offering their daughters or sisters to the Hokage; for a total of forty offers, all rejected or ignored to the utmost concern (as well as objection) of the Congress of Elders of Konoha
Naruto was compelled to pursue specific studies in preparation of his future role as Hokage; among the tutors of such courses figures an Aburame Shujin who claims to have met him when he was too young to be able to remember
all over the Lands there have been whispers and rumors regarding alleged descendants of Uchiha Madara ever since the war ended. Some Lands have engaged in intensive investigations, including the Land of Fire
some corpses of war dead were never found, including that of Hyūga Neji, whose funeral was forcibly held with an empty coffin
Orochimaru disappeared from Konoha for a year, the reasons have never been explained

Hello! First of all, I really love all of your metas/analysis! They are just so clear and interesting + they’ve helped me understand all of my favorite media better! Sorry if this is out of nowhere but I just finished rewatching the kazekage rescue arc in Naruto and I just wanted to hear your thoughts on the Sasori Vs Sakura fight? That’s the one fight that interested me the most in the entire series but I can’t seem to fully put my thoughts into words why. (I’m also a sasosaku shipper! ugh I wish sasori ended up living throughout the series as he is one of my faves..)
Hi! I talked about Sasori and Sakura's dynamic here.
I think the fight stands out in a few ways. Firstly, it gives Sakura focus, when the writer generally didn't develop her very much. It addresses her internal goals and desires, and therefore adds depth to the rest of her actions in the series. I really wish the writer had built on it in future arcs. Sasori gives Sakura the respect no one else really did.
Tumblr media
Also, of course, the entire arc comments on the entire meta theme of the series: about rediscovering humanity lost. You can never fully divorce yourself from humanity no matter how hard you try; what motivated Sasori wasn't inhuman, but human at its core: resentment, agony, grief, a desire to be more than human, yet it is that very desire that makes him so human.
Usually it's Naruto getting through to people via empathy and some good punches bc shonen, but here it was Sakura. This offers the reader a sense of Naruto's method expanding and shows us what it could potentially do for the world. It also shows a cost to rediscovering humanity: you might not survive it. This in turn raises the stakes for the whole issue with Sasuke.

Drop those team taka head cannons
omg i adore team taka altho i feel i don’t even have the most particularly interesting headcanons for them LOL a lot of them will be design headcanons bc thats what i normally think of as an artist hehee uhm.. i’ll start with suigetsu bc i love suigetsuuuuu
for suigetsu as shown in my drawing of him from today i like the thought of him dying the tips of his hair blue….. the way the anime shades his hair is far too cool to accept it’s shading and not act like those are dyed tips….
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ ID: two screenshots of suigetsu. END ID. ]
like cmonnnnn the blue tips are the coolest thing in the world. it is NOT shading TO ME ☝️☝️☝️☝️ also i didn’t draw this in my recent suigetsu bc i forgot when i was drawing it 😢😢 but i do imagine he has scabs on his lips and around his mouth often from accidentally biting his lip T.T sometimes i bite too hard and draw blood i can only imagine having sharp teeth and doing that T.T also he wears smudged eyeliner. uh this ones maybe kinda obvious but to me he doesn’t have much of a sense of boundaries and doesn’t have much shame in his body so T.T being his roommate would be a constant battle to make sure he walks around the apartment in *some* clothes. like by everything holy just *something*
this one is absolutely not based at all but it’s my brain and i can do to jūgo as i please with it ☝️☝️ and i like to imagine jūgo likes to wear accessories on his head a lot. like hair clips, hats, maybe he starts growing it out a bit more and ties parts of it up. it catches little birdies attentions more too which he enjoys and is a bonus other than it just being cute to me. to me he’s also the friend that carries around a big bag to hold everyones shit in when they get tired of carrying their own stuff. like yeah man just toss it in… it adds nothing i already have anything you could imagine in here anyways. y’know y’know. most of my jūgo headcanons are not based at all ajksjsjss i’m sorry but i also like to imagine he might pick up smth like woodworking/carving maybee knitting/crotchet (but i lean most towards wood carving) to keep himself distracted and occupied. less likely to have episodes and intrusive thoughts for him. obviously doesn’t stop everything but it helps the tiniest but plus it’s fun :) i think if he were to do carvings and stuff he’d give like a few to his friends if it was smth they specifically liked but i think he kinda likes and prefers to just leave them around, to either be lost to time or be found by someone else! i think he has lots of scars on his hands and knuckles— between the wood carving and his rampages i think his hands take quite the damage. and y’all know i like scars so i ignore any jutsu that may deter scar creation so to me he defo gets scars. except suigetsu’s jutsu actually.. i dont think suigetsu gets scars at all.
i like to imagine karin with a bunch of neat kind of earrings. anything fun/funky. also she has one industrial piercing too to me.. sasuke has two of them but karin had one before she knew sasuke did 😭😭 just a coincidence she swears she swearssss. this one would like.. technically be canon anyways in the first half but bc of all the bite marks she has n stuff her skin would be suuuper bumpy… i think she probably doesn’t like people touching her cause strangers/non team taka end up commenting on how gross it is T.T she prolly wears long sleeves as much as she can. which i rlly don’t know much about boruto but i think long sleeves in that one is canon too. i like to work with out of canon clothings so even then if i end up starting a karin fashion board it would have strictly long sleeve outfits in it. also i like to imagine her with some vocal tics. i dont imagine her with tourettes but just a small tic disorder. i think she mostly does like clicking sounds and hums… not any words or anything :) also i feel like her eyesight is just constantly getting worse and worse. i imagine she’s legally blind but still it gets worse. when she’s older like maybe her 50s or 60s she goes blind and just relies on only sensing ppls chakra to know who’s around w/o asking. i mean she heavily relies on that anyways even when she does have eyesight.. i like to just think she uses it a lot instead of straining her eyes when her prescription starts changing.
uhm and for sasuke some more team taka centred headcanons instead of just some hcs in general… i mean i’ll just state the obvious here because soooo many ppl tend to ignore this but. team taka are sasukes best friends…. not the rest of the konoha 12… so jot that one down. i feel like even when they branch off and do their own thing (again idk anything about boruto none of that is canon to me akshjshsjsjs so don’t be like “uhmm well actually 🤓🤓”) they like to keep in contact. even if not often they’ll send messages. i like to think if they’re aware they’re gonna end up being somewhere near-ish the others they’ll all go out of their way to pay a visit. uh also i DONT think this actually happened like it’s not a headcanon of mine but i do think the thought of suigetsu being sasukes first (very short term) bf is a funny thought…. it does not last tho cause anytime they’re tryna talk about sweet things and their thoughts sasuke just talks about naruto T.T again i dont actually headcanon that happening but it is a funny thought to me… uhm also i don’t particularly think there’s a moment in which this would end up happening but i do think that out of all of team taka sasuke trusts jūgo the most to just… have a personal conversation with. like he doesn’t go out of his way to ever talk about personal shit with him, but i think if a situation were to come up in which he had to/felt like he needed to i think jūgo would be the one he’d go to c:
most importantly no matter how much they do argue with each other team taka does all love eachother.. and they certainly stay friends for life. even if they don’t talk much i think they will all always consider them a group of friends that they can just send messages to without the thought of it being strange after it being so long. it doesn’t even have to be some kind of important message either. just a little random message whenever they think of it.

2nd chapter of " The power in me"
The catastrophe takes its course
3 years and six months before
In a panic, Sasuke runs through a devastated Konoha. Up until this morning everything was still relatively in order, if you can put it that way. Boruto has been brought to the Science Institute with a new mark on his chest, which Kawaki was responsible for this. Boruto explained to Sasuke that he himself asked Kawaki to do this.
Sasuke suspected a deep desperation between the two boys that compelled them to do this. According to the records, Momoshiki tried again to gain the upper hand over Boruto's body.
Also, there has been an incident at the Institute involving Code that ended with Code kidnapping Amado and being taken out of Konoha, whether the suspected scientist was still alive was uncertain at this time.
A few hours later, pure chaos raged in Konoha involving the Uzomaki boy. In recent times, the cases where Konoha is on the brink and Boruto has always been the focus. A huge dimensional gate gaped in the sky, sucking in everything and everyone who couldn't escape or were too weak.
Well, Sasuke doesn't blame the boy for that, he didn't choose to become Momoshiki's vessel and this incident must have something to do with the Otsukis, he's sure of it. He and his father should have taken care of him much sooner, which unfortunately meant Boruto's death. The boy was aware of his fate. Everything that was important to him that his family and friends could live in safety. He and Kawaki have been able to face the consequences where he and Naruto have failed.
The last thing he saw of the boy was disappearing through the gate with the young novice scientist Sumire in his arms and then closing it behind him.
But it's not Boruto that's causing him to lose his composure now and isn't part of his concern now.
The reason is different and lies in his arms.
In his arms lies his daughter Sarada, who is badly injured and has lost consciousness. She hasn't woken up once since he's been with her.
There is now a gaping hole where her right eye should be. The bleeding has stopped on its own, which he takes as a good sign, but it would calm him down even more if she were awake. Any sign, maybe questions what happened to her, or cries of pain, even a helpless whimper, would calm him down a bit.
But her silence is frightening for him and unbearable.
Little Peanut! Please wake up!!! he begs silently and thinks back to better old days.
Sarada hated that nickname so much and was so embarrassed whenever Sasuke called her that.
Sometimes in the past he made fun of calling her by that name.
Papa, you are so embarrassing!, were her words then, but then she had to grin herself that he called her that and only he was allowed to call her by this silly name.
Sasuke thinks of a time when he made the mistake of teasing Sarada with peanuts in front of her three teammates.
Well the situation ended with Sarada and Boruto immediately getting in a fight after Boruto called her by her hated pet name. Sasuke then had to separate the two brawlers.
Mitsuki observed the situation like he always does and Kawaki….
He watched the boy staring at the scene in fascination and Sasuke clearly saw color in Kawaki's face of the otherwise rather pale boy.
Sasuke distrusted Kawaki in one respect and the reason was Sarada.
Not that malicious distrust between enemies or a dangerous situation.
No, that suspicion was the kind of suspicion that existed among fathers when their daughters started to become interesting to boys or, in some cases, girls.
And Kawaki was clearly showing signs of interest that Sarada has yet to ignore or keep well hidden from her father.
The boy had always been close to her on missions or, judging from a report by Naruto, worked closely with her.
That damn Naruto! Not only that, he recommended Kawaki to Sarada's team.
To top it all off, he must have gotten Kawaki and Sarada together, judging from a girlfriend chat between Ino and Sakura. Sakura was amused that Sarada found a boyfriend and addressed him as "Kawaki kun" in the hospital, like she used to do to her love. A circumstance that Sasuke painfully reminds that at some point in the future he will no longer be the most important male reference person for his daughter.
Ultimately, the boy acts just like Sasuke did around Sakura when they were genin. He clearly sees parallels to his relationship with Sakura and his daughter with Kawaki.
On top of that, there was almost a fight just now.
Sasuke found the boy holding Sarada protectively in his arms and a disjointed Delta, a cyborg created by Amado. Judging by his eyes, there must have been a fight and he must have cried for her.
Sasuke knew this was a dangerous situation for him and Sarada . He had to somehow get Kawaki to let go of Sarada.
First, Sasuke tried to calmly persuade Kawaki that Sarada needed medical attention as soon as possible and that she needed to see her mother immediately.
The boy didn't react to Sasuke's words and still clutched Sarada.
Memories well up in Sasuke as he saw the sight. Sakura also reacted to protect him from harm.
Sasuke slowly got closer to the two and Sarada doesn't make a sound, when he stood almost a few centimeters in front of the two, everything happened very quickly.
Sasuke noticed that in seconds, Kawaki's horn grew rapidly, similar to Boruto's when he lost control of himself.
Within seconds, Kawaki attacks his opponent with his blade Sasuke, which he in turn fends off with his katana.
The strength and hardness of the ninja tool blade that grows from Kawaki's right arm has increased in strength and hardness many times over. Unlike the last time the boy attacked the scientist Amado, Sasuke was able to easily destroy this blade.
Sasuke is well aware of the emotional and desperate state Boruto's foster brother must be in.
Their faces are a few centimeters apart and Sasuke sees the young Uzomaki crying silently incessantly.
This is the moment that Sasuke takes advantage of and traps his opponent in a genjutsu.
Sasuke didn't expect it to be that easy. He has the feeling that his opponent willingly indulged in the genjutsu in order to be able to forget the sorrow and pain.
However, Sasuke can't worry too much about Kawaki and leaves him to his own devices.
He quickly takes his daughter from the arms of her teammate and friend.
Unnoticed, Sarada's body drops something...
But Sasuke doesn’t have time to react and he quickly makes his way to Sakura, Sarada's mother.
Where is she? Sasuke asks himself desperately, she must be around here somewhere...
He made his way straight to the hospital. But where the Konoha Hospital was supposed to be, there is a ruin that looks like any other. Rubble and destruction everywhere, which Sasuke is only realizing now. In the streets and alleys of the once beautiful Konoha with all the small achievements and attractions of the 6th and 7th Hokage there are only mountains of rubble, dead and injured.
Konoha has never been particularly lucky in its history. Again and again it became a theater of war or destructiveness of powerful opponents like Pain, or Nagato as he was really called.
And every time Konoha has risen like the phoenix from the ashes.
Unconsciously, Sasuke looks at the rest of his hometown's landmark, the well-known Hokage Mountain.
Where the well-known landmark of the city was once recognizable, only destroyed grimaces are left.
The face of the 7th is even half gone. Startled, Sasuke realizes what it might mean.
If his own daughter's situation weren't so tragic, he would be worried about his best friend.
Desperately he looks for his wife and the otherwise calm person screams anxiously for his wife, like a small child for its mother. "SAKURAAAAA!!!"
Otherwise he would scold himself pathetically for it.
But his daughter's situation is anything but pathetic, it is life-threatening.
When he seems to have given up all hope, hear her familiar and beloved voice.
"Sasuke kun?" She emerges from behind the rubble. Despite all the dust and dirt on her face, hair and clothes, she's still unmistakably his Sakura. Anywhere he would recognize her beautiful, bright green eyes.
Reassured that her husband and daughter have returned to her, she holds her hand to her heart. Now that both are standing in front of her, everything will be fine again…. Won’t be?
Strange she has never seen her Sasuke so distraught, even the horrors of the 4th Ninja World War had left him cold on the outside back then.
She quickly recognizes the reason for this, she is shocked to see her daughter's pale skin color, which is already graying.
Sasuke looks at her with all the hope in his one eye.
Sakura sees the hole from Sarada's empty right eye level, blood starts to clot in places. Asking what happened is obvious.
"Where did you find her? How long has she been like this?” she asks professionally.
She's trying to hide her fucking fear. If she loses her composure, how will her husband fare?
Otherwise he is always the strong, composed one of the two and always gives her support.
This time she has to be the one who has to be strong for both of them.
PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER, SAKURA!!!! , she thinks.
Sakura notices Sasuke fighting back tears as she performs the field inspection and examines her daughter with her hands after a chakra flow is still active. Where countless chakras should flow, she only feels cold...
"Her bleeding stopped 15 minutes ago and I found her with the boy Kawaki..." he says in a cracked, hoarse voice.
"Is he responsible for this?" Sakura's hands clench in anger.
Sasuke shook his head in reassurance, "I don't think so. He tried to defend her from me and also has defended her against of one of the institutes cyborgs. I had to lock a genjutsu on him to make him let go of her. He showed no hint of guilt, much more sadness and..."
Sakura realizes what her husband is getting at, and she has also noticed that Sarada is becoming more popular with the boys, especially Naruto's foster son, Kawaki. Without any reason she will not have given him the lavender flowers almost a year ago, as Ino told her. Also, Naruto had already asked her, if Kawaki could watch Sasuke and Sarada's training session. Sakura wanted to ask her husband and convince her to let the boy watch as well.
Sakura never wanted to see the day that Sarada had to die before her parents.
After all her exertion, her tears are now flowing.
Sasuke senses that there is no hope for their daughter when he sees Sakura's tears falling down Sarada's forehead. Both hold each other in grief over their common daughter and cry the pain out of their souls. After what feels like an eternity, Sasuke finds the words back first.
" Would it have helped if I had been with her faster?... I shouldn't have focused too much on Boruto... It's my fault... I ignored Sarada….” Sakura feels her husband's pain.
Sakura shakes her head reassuringly, "Please don't blame yourself for this. We all knew how dangerous Boruto's condition was and that he had to be kept under surveillance... Besides, her death probably occurred in a few seconds to minutes, you couldn't have reacted that fast....and self-blame isn't helping her at this moment...."
Sasuke looks at his wife doubtfully and thinks about what he said, ".... What do you mean by that?... Is there anything else you can do for her?... You're not thinking about the Tensei no Jutsu, are you??? "
Sakura is silent for a moment and shakes her head resolutely, " No, I can bring corpses to life with the Tensei no Jutsu. But at the end of the day, they're corpses that either succumb to the natural process of decomposition or the jutsu ends up being broken…” Sakura dries her tears and doesn't want her to look so tearful at what she's now planning to perform.
Before all his hopes are gone, Sakura takes his hands in hers. What lies ahead is for everyone here an end and a new beginning at the same time...
Sakura has been looking at her companion with love since childhood, wishing they had spent more time together with Sarada. Large green eyes, as pure as jade stones meet a coal-black, with the strongest emotions it changes to blood to fiery red eye.
"I know of another way to help her..." Sakura says calmly.
Sakura sees new hope glimmering in her husband's remaining eye, "How am I supposed to help you?" Sasuke is aware that he is not of much help to Sakura in her specialty and yet he wants to do everything in his power to help their girl.
"Keep an eye on her. No matter what. Your job is to monitor her breathing and please hold my hands..." Sakura says seriously.
Sasuke nods to his wife and gives her all his hopes and trust.
Sakura takes a last deep breath for what is to come.
She saw this jutsu once in practice and actively experienced it. Gaara, the Kage of Sunagakure bequeathed all of the user's information to Naruto during his tenure as Hokage.
Important and valuable documents that Naruto doesn't know how to handle and he was smart enough to pass them on to the right hands so that no one messes with them.
This jutsu is as simple as it is explosive, as can be seen from the secret notes of the user Chiyo. With this jutsu you could really bring the dead to life with the fact that the user lets the dead live. A price Sakura is willing to pay if her daughter can live for it.
Sasuke does what Sakura asked him to do and watches Sarada closely. First, Sakura breaks her Byakugou no Jutsu seal. Black tattoos in the form of lines travel across her body, visible on her arms and legs. Nothing to worry about, he's seen it on her quite a few times and he knows that Sakura will use up a lot of chakra for this action.
She slowly begins the procedure and Sasuke feels his hands getting warm, this must be Sakura's medicine jutsu.
"Keep eye contact with her. If she wakes up and is in pain, a familiar face will take away her fear and prevent a panic attack," says Sakura calmly, "...Do you remember when she was smal? She always adored you..."
Sasuke has to smile at the shared memories and becomes melancholic. He misses the time when Sarada was so small and always wanted to be in his arms.
"I can still remember the time well..."
"Yes, these times were good. I remember one day when she wanted to paint your nails and couldn't give up until she got her way...
But papa had granted his little peanut's every wish..."
Strange somehow does Sasuke feel like Sakura's voice is getting older and weaker? Certainly caused by the stress and the effort...
"Don't remind me, Sakura. I had to go to the Hokage HQ for a meeting that same evening and I was standing there with your pink and red nail polish on my hands. Naruto and Shikamaru still tease me about the story to this day..." Sasuke laughs softly.
Nice times together, the best of his life when he thinks about it.
Then, after what felt like an eternity, his daughter's first sign of life.
With a deep breath, Sarada sees the light of day for the second time and says softly, " Papa..."
Sarada looks at him faintly from her remaining eye. Black circles under her eye adorn her eye, a small price for the worries and fears of the last 2 hours about his daughter,
" Please rest, Sarada, you have to divide your strength. Think about your chakra control..."
His daughter nods weakly in confirmation and falls asleep again...
The happiness of having Sarada alive again comes at a high price, as he now learns. Shortly after Sarada regains consciousness, Sakura's seal dissolves and so does all contact with the living world.
Sasuke feels the skin contact between him and Sakura breaking down. He immediately looks over at his wife. But is it really still Sakura?
In front of him is a woman aged 90 years or more. The once gorgeous pink hair has now turned gray and dull. Deep wrinkles line her face. Age spots have appeared on all sorts of places on her body and dull eyes that were so bright green until a few minutes ago look at him tiredly.
Stunned and almost in tears in shock, he wants to yell at her and ask why she did it.
The reason for this is obvious and lies in his arm. Before Sasuke can say anything else and wake Sarada up, Sakura grabs her husband's face. Sasuke wants to say so much more to her, but he knows that these are the last words of his love and he doesn't dare interrupt her.
"Please take Sarada away from here. You know who can help her and please don't blame yourself... Because I... don't regret anything... I love you both infinitely..." she says with a raspy voice and gives Sasuke one last goodbye kiss before all life leaves her.
Sasuke knows that Sarada's reserves will not last long and so he sets out with a heavy heart to bring their daughter to a safe place.
But he will return to give his wife a proper burial and to have a place for himself and Sarada to share thoughts with Sakura.

Pregnant!Omega!Sasuke x Alpha!Reader
Anon:  how about sasuke as a mother? something like him finding his mate but it ends up as a one night stand only for them to meet up again while he’s super pregnant 😁
(Oooh, interesting idea! I took a few creative liberties but I was really happy with how this one turned out and I hope you enjoy it!)
Warnings: Mpreg, accidentally implied cheating, bureaucracy
Tumblr media
You met Sasuke through your job as the head Suna ambassador to Konoha.
After you met, you and Sasuke fell in love slowly, and then all at once.
After 4 years, you were mated and living together.
Your relationship was difficult at times for many reasons: Sasuke’s past, balancing both of your demanding careers, cultural differences and difficulties etc.
But despite the hurdles, your relationship flourished. You were in love.
After 5 years, you decided to apply for a ‘mate’ visa. This visa would allow you to remain in Konoha even if you were no longer an ambassador, because you were mated to a Konoha citizen.
Unfortunately, you would have to leave Konoha before you could switch visas. You would also have to remain in Suna for 6 months before you could return, and have no contact with anyone in Konoha for that duration. And so that is what you did.
Sasuke wasn’t happy when he found this out, and as a mated pair, the distance was very hard on the both of you.
Your alpha was constantly snappy and on edge because you were so far from Sasuke.
And Sasuke was even more moody than normal, spending most of the months alone, distancing himself from his friends because he was so upset.
And so when you returned to Konoha, desperate to see your omega again, you were more than a little hurt to find yourself alone at the gate.
Sasuke knew exactly when you were coming home, so why wasn’t he here?
Vaguely upset, you went through all the paperwork and steps to confirm your new citizenship alone, before finally heading home. You were still desperate to see Sasuke despite the hurt. Maybe he was just mad about you leaving him for so long?
For some reason, you were kind of nervous to open the front door.
But this didn’t matter because before you could even touch the door, it came flying open, a furious Sasuke standing at the threshold. You could hear him growling lightly, his scent foul.
You had no time to process this before he dragged you by the wrist into the house, pushing you lightly down onto the sofa.
He then whirled around to face you, still furious.
You whined at the prospect of having upset your omega.
Sasuke ignored your whines and ripped off his baggy cardigan. Revealing his stomach His... swollen stomach?
“You did this to me!” Sasuke hissed. “And then you fucked off and left me to deal with it!” The ‘alone’ went unsaid, but you heard it clear as day.
Sasuke was scared. And when Sasuke was scared, he got angry.
You couldn’t take your gaze off of his stomach. Your rational mind didn’t know what to do. He was pregnant. Very pregnant.
You swore in shock and some words escaped your mouth before you could stop them.
“Is it mine?”
You regretted your words as soon as you said them. The rage on Sasuke’s face was enough to tell you that was the worst thing you could have said.
“Fuck you.” He spat, turning to storm off.
This was when your brain finally caught up with your situation.
You jumped up from sofa as quickly as you could, racing after your mate. You wrapped you arms around him, gently restraining him from behind as he tried to push away.
“Let me go.” Sasuke ground out, attempting to pull himself from your arms.
“I’m sorry.”
Sasuke stopped struggling. You continued to speak.
“I’m sorry that I left you to go through this alone. I’m sorry that I’ve been a subpar alpha and mate, not being here to protect and care for you and our pup. And I am sorry for implying you would cheat on me.”
You started to plant chaste kisses on his neck. Rubbing his stomach slowly and silently marvelling that he was pregnant.
“I know you would never cheat on me, Sasuke. I was simply surprised, not that that’s an excuse.”
You could feel Sasuke begin to shake against you. You turned him around and saw the tears beginning to fall from his eyes. Sasuke began to wipe at them angrily.
“Stupid hormones.” He grumbled.
You smiled at him and wiped the tears away with your thumbs.
“It’s okay, baby. I’m here now, and I’m not going to leave again.”
Sasuke choked on a sob as you pulled him close, releasing calming pheromones as you rubbed small circles on his lower back. As you stayed there, swaying back and forth, the fact that you were going to be a parent finally sunk in.
You started to laugh suddenly, spinning Sasuke around gently.
“We’re going to be parents!” You grinned at him.
Sasuke scoffed, but you could see the pleased blush blooming on his face.
“Don’t spin me again unless you want me to throw up everywhere, idiot alpha.”
“Noted.” You laughed. “Now, let me make up for the lost time. Do you have a nest?”
“Upstairs.” Sasuke grumbled.
“Perfect!” You grinned, picking him up and moving towards the stairs.
Sasuke complained, but you could feel his smile pressed against your neck.
Finally, you were home.

Tumblr media
The Sharingan never forgets.
That’s among one of the few things that’s drilled into your mind as a child born in the Uchiha clan. Before you had even awakened your Sharingan, your late brother, Shishui, had already taught you this.
At a young age, you’ve always thought it was a blessing, especially to a shinobi like you. With the ability of the Sharingan to discern movements and to retain its information better than any other dojutsu, it enables you to progress faster than children your age.
Outside the shinobi life, however, it’s not really that useful, so it’s expected for you not to activate it at all. You don’t need to remember minor details of everyday life after all. But on some of your days off — on special days — although very rarely, you unconsciously activate your Sharingan when you’re with Neji.
It goes without saying that before the war, you’ve already gained quite a bit of control over the use of the Sharingan. You’re able to activate and deactivate it at will, although sometimes your emotions get the better of you and it messes your control. After the war, however, you’ve become adept at controlling both your emotions and your Sharingan, maybe even better than Sasuke.
But whenever Neji surprises you with affectionate gestures, you get so overwhelmed that you just can't control your body, and by extension, your dojutsu too.
No matter how hard you try, you’re unable to stop the blood rushing to your face. You’re unable to calm the violent thumping of your heart. You’re unable to get rid of the fluttering feeling in your stomach. You’re unable to prevent the Sharingan from activating. Especially on the rare occasions that he kisses the back of your hand tenderly after he walks you home, or when he kisses your lips before he leaves for a mission.
Neji isn’t good at romantic gestures, and so he keeps it to a bare minimum. But when he does these things, it always takes you by surprise.
He wouldn’t admit it, but he likes your cute reactions to his unpredictable acts. There’s always this short moment where your mind goes blank and your Sharingan manifests itself. This reassures him of your feelings for him because he knows he’s the only one who’ll be able to pull such a reaction from you. Not that he’s ever doubted you. You’ve always been so vocal about your feelings for him, after all.
On the flip side, while it embarrasses you that you can’t control your Sharingan when you’re with Neji, you like the way they activate themselves at those moments, as they’re able to help you remember the details of its aftermath — like the way Neji would always look down on the floor first before he meets your eyes, his cheeks tinted pink, and with the slightest upturn of his lips, almost as if he, himself, wasn’t expecting the onslaught of emotions that was brought about by his own actions. In mere seconds, you have all these memorized before he pulls away, and you play it over and over again in your mind until you’re branded with a new memory.
But the Sharingan is a curse as much as it is a blessing.
It’s a curse because it reminds you of the cruelty of the world. It doesn’t allow you to forget the scene of the Uchiha clan district after the massacre, even after knowing the true reason why it had to be done. It lets you remember the way you almost lost Neji from the Ten Tails’ attack during the war in his attempt to protect Naruto and Hinata.
And when Sasuke implanted Shisui’s eye to you, which he retrieved from Danzo before he annihilated him, the Sharingan lets you relive all his memories and experiences, and it paints you a picture of how unfair the world actually is, even more so to an Uchiha like you.
The unfair reality is further proven by an unexpected knock on your door a couple of weeks ago.
Hiashi. Hyuga Hiashi. The head of the Hyuga clan. Neji’s uncle.
He came to you with a deal, a proposition of sorts, but really it was just a threat in disguise as an offer.
“Leave Neji or else I’ll make sure he won’t be able to break free from his cage” is what he basically implied.
But to be precise, his words were, “The Hyuga clan is considering Neji to be the next heir, which would result in abolition of the main and branch family system altogether. Naturally, if he becomes the head of the clan, his curse seal will be removed, along with all the other branch family members’. However, there’s no telling if there’s going to be a change if he doesn’t get the position.
“You might have been keeping your relationship with him on the down-low, but the elders of the Hyuga clan know of it.
“To put it bluntly, we do not wish to be associated with the Uchiha in any way — so much that even disowning Neji has been put out there as an option, just in case — especially after what Sasuke pulled off after defeating the goddess.
“Moreover, if you were to bear a child together, there’s no telling what will happen to their kekkei genkai. It would be ideal to have him marry into the clan and follow tradition in order to preserve the Byakugan.
“I suppose you know where I’m going with this. It would be in his best interest if you call off whatever you have with him. Although this wouldn’t be a deal if there is nothing in it for you, right? Supposing Neji’s bright future is not enough for you, we are willing to arrange allowances of sorts.”
But before he could spout anything more, you cut him off by asking, “Does he know about this?”
“Not yet. But we’ll let him know soon enough.”
“Don’t. Keep it that way. I’ll handle this,” you told him, not caring if you didn’t sound respectful to a prominent figure such as himself. “I don’t need anything from your clan. All I want and need is for Neji to live a life that he deserves; a life that he was robbed off.”
Hiashi glared at you, offended by your words, but he didn't comment on it. Rather, he stared you down. His hardened expression morphing into suspicion the longer he looked at you; clearly he didn’t trust you. “How will you handle it?”
The only response he got from you is an intense stare with your Sharingan, and that alone was enough for him.
It’s frustrating to not have a choice, even when it comes to love, but in hindsight, you should’ve expected this. For all the troubles your ancestors caused in the past, it’s only natural for you to be this unfortunate.
Whatever blessing the Uchihas receive, it’s always paired with some type of misery. That’s just how it is, that’s how it would probably always be.
There’s no denying that in the end, it always, always hurts. But then again, you’re no stranger to pain and loss. And so is Neji. So surely, this would be for the best, at least that’s what you tell yourself over and over again in hopes that it will strengthen your resolve.
After all, Neji deserves a life where he doesn’t have to fear dying by the hands of the main branch family. He deserves a life where he can make choices of his own, without being tied down by his curse seal or his clan in general. And if leaving him means he’ll have all this and more, so be it.
As much as it is painful, it is hard, partly because of your waning resolve but especially because it’s Neji, who’s known for being an awfully perceptive shinobi. He’s almost never caught off guard, all the more when he’s with you, as he’s always keen on keeping you safe. Hence, you have to be meticulous and methodical.
The Sharingan’s ability to cast genjutsu is particularly harder to use against Hyugas due to their ability to see and sense the chakra concentrating by the eyes, enabling them to counter or avoid it entirely. Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami technique would’ve been quite useful, except you’re unable to use it yet because of the events prior to the war. Thus, you’ll have to rely on your own skills.
If timed right and casted properly, the genjutsu of the Sharingan has the ability to remove memories. To be precise, it can trick his mind into “forgetting” memories. But with years and years of memories between you and Neji, you know that you’ll have to cast it over and over again before everything will be completely wiped out.
You take advantage of the moments where Neji gives you affection, as you deem it the most subtle way to cast genjutsu on him without suspicion.
Although you have to admit, in the beginning you’ve been selfish, only removing memories of you and him that weren’t important — like the times he would accompany you in doing mundane tasks, or the times you both just lounge around after tiring missions. And because those are only minor memories, Neji is oblivious to the loss.
It gets exceptionally harder to cast the genjutsu once you’ve started erasing the major events in your relationship — the first date, the first kiss, the first time he held your hand, and the first time he introduced you as the love of his life. Until eventually, the affectionate acts dwindle down, and the only way you can use the Sharingan around him is when you ask him to train with you.
It’s only natural that the longer this goes on, the further you drift apart, and the more you lose him.
And it’s scary and painful because unlike Sasuke, Konoha has always been your home, but more specifically because of Neji. In fact, you can argue that Neji has always felt like home more than the village itself. You can walk the streets of Konoha but all it will ever scream is Neji’s name, and all it will ever show you is the memories you shared with him on every corner of the place.
The fact that you have to walk the streets without him is terrifying and foreign, and the only way you can avoid it altogether is by taking more and more missions, either the ones involving far away places or high rank missions that require every single bit of your concentration. Sometimes you even tag along to Sasuke’s expeditions to escape not only Neji’s overwhelming presence in the village, but also the thoughts of him.
It’s tiring and it’s heavy. But you’ve accepted the fact that you’re going to carry alone the memories for the two of you.
But this doesn’t go unnoticed by your friends, though they were quick to assume that things just didn’t work out between the two of you, and that you called your relationship off.
Ino is the first person to voice out her concern and her curiosity as she claimed it’s weird not seeing you hang out with Neji anymore.
“That’s just how it is, I suppose,” you shrug, trying to act nonchalant about everything despite the ache in your chest and the slight quiver of your voice.
She doesn’t comment further, thinking you probably didn’t want to talk about it.
But one day, when the whole clique — except for you and Sasuke — was hanging out, Ino can tell there was something wrong when Sakura asked if Neji remembered the time when you almost fell off a tree but he was there to catch you, and he furrowed his brows, saying he doesn’t recall that at all.
Break up or not, it’s highly unlikely for Neji to forget. Regardless of how minor something is, he always seems to remember them, especially when it involves you. And while he could’ve just been deflecting, there would’ve been no point in him denying that he remembers that occasion. Besides, Neji is blatantly honest, it’s one thing that you can count on when it comes to him, so really, how come he couldn’t remember that scenario at all?
This prompted Ino to observe Neji further out of concern and suspicion. She’d often find herself casually mentioning you and the feats you’ve both been through, but time and time again, Neji would tell her he has no recollection of those.
Ino wants to do something, anything really, just to clear her mind of suspicions, but she’s afraid she’s overstepping and interfering.
Neji takes notice of this. But even before that, he feels as though there’s something wrong, like something’s missing, but he doesn’t know what it is, and he doesn’t know what to do about it.
After all, genjutsu might’ve tricked his mind, but his heart is an entirely different case.
It comes as a surprise to Ino when Neji comes to visit her in Yamanaka’s flower shop, looking at your favorite flowers without a clue why.
With Ino being the only one who seems to be willing to talk about you with him, it’s her who he seeks out. That, and he thinks the Yamanaka’s mind jutsus could be of help.
Ino doesn’t hesitate to help after Neji asks for it. When she goes to explore Neji’s consciousness, the first thing that she senses is your chakra. The further she prods, the more she realizes that it’s you who have been tampering with his memories. Then she realizes that it’s genjutsu that you’ve used on him, and she quickly breaks him out of it.
You know instantly when the jutsu breaks, feeling as if there was a string that snapped, and it immediately renders you frozen.
Fear grips you as you think about how Neji would feel after his memories come back. Will he be able to tell it was you who did it? Will he be mad at you? Will you tell him the reason why you did it? Will he even listen?
But if he’d stop talking to you altogether… then that would still be a win, right? Because that’s what Hiashi wants, that’s what his clan wants. That’s the only condition for them to give back Neji’s freedom.
But is it worth it?
Is this what you want?
Is this what Neji would want?
You’d like to believe so. And that’s the last thought you have as the rogue shinobi you’re supposed to capture stabs a kunai deep into your gut.
Of all the times the genjutsu could have broken, it just had to be when you were facing a highly skilled ninja. It’s once again a reminder that life is unfair, but this time, it’s your choices that lead you to this.
Deja vu. That’s how you feel when you wake up after escaping death’s clutches once again.
You blink once, twice, and then you look around your surroundings. You’re back in Konoha’s hospital, but this time you don’t wake up to a sleeping Neji by your bed.
Youre alone, and you feel hollow.
But then the door to your room opens abruptly and you almost jump in surprise.
Your breath hitches as you find the familiar lavender eyes staring back at you.
He calls your name to you softly, as if in a trance, and you feel your heart stutter at how perfect your name sounds on his lips.
Before you know it, he’s by your side, gently holding your hands. With an untrained eye, it would seem that his face is void of any emotion, but from your years of experience with him, you can clearly point out the sadness in his eyes.
You break the silence by saying, “I’m sorry, Neji.”
“For what exactly?”
You look away in shame. “For trying to erase your memories of us.”
“Why’d you do it then?”
“Because…” you bite your lip. “That’s what’s best for you,” your voice cracks. “I’m not… We couldn’t— no — we shouldn’t be together.”
Neji gathers his thoughts, and it takes a couple of minutes before he speaks up. “The Sharingan may not be able to forget, but the Byakugan sees everything.”
And you understand what he’s trying to say: he can see through the lies you feed yourself.
Neji sighs, and it gets your attention. You peek at him, and only then have you noticed the bags under his eyes and the way his shoulders are slightly slumped.
He has always looked composed no matter the situation, but now he’s different.
“You used to tell me everything,” he says dejectedly.
The way he says it and the way he pleads with his eyes breaks something in you and you spill everything to him.
You’re crying and stuttering and you aren’t sure if you’re making sense. But Neji always, always understands you.
And by the end of your piece, you’re wrapped securely in his arms.
“You’re alright,” he comforts you. “We’re alright.”
“But Hiashi—”
“We’ll figure it out. We always do.”

Kakashi stays at the door to breathe in the lingering remnants of vanilla and lilac in the air, a quick pang of regret with the realization he missed her by minutes. He allows the scents to stick on his skin and bury themselves in his pores, spaces once filled and overflowing but have since emptied out after a year.
He sighs and gets to the most arduous task of arrival. Sakura’s neurotic tendency to place things exactly where they are is a convenience. Unpack, unroll, pile, open, and close. His only memento of the foreign place, so cold and distant to him now, is a snow globe of fuyuzakura. He gives it a shake for the white flurries to cover the pink blossoms, but it slips and rolls over to a small, opened box, rather new in its appearance.
Would it be possible to feel as foreign as he did when he got assigned to another country while he sits on the floor of the home he and Sakura built two years after their wedding? The pile of postcards on the carpet beside the fallen snow globe, unsigned yet imprinted with ‘his’ hands; envelopes of letters with almost torn flaps in fits of yearning and loneliness; and an unmarked cassette tape.
Surely, Kakashi has self-preservation. This is what he tells himself as he presses play. Valse Sentimentale, Tchaikovsky.
Notes linger in the air as much as her scents did, but longer, longer than they were allowed to stay, and he wallows in the deafening silence that ensues on the outside and a chaotic maelstrom on the inside, unwanting to escape the broken bubble of his commitment.
But yes, he has self-preservation so he returns where everything is supposed to be, the snow globe beside their wedding photo; vibrant spring Sakura on his arm, no longer a bride once abandoned at the altar. Frozen in that moment was his naïve belief that he could truly make her happy, that time would chip away at Sasuke’s fleeting hold on her orbit, and her axis would tilt at him, if only ever so little.
He flinches when the door opens, and her eyes widen at the sight of him. He suspends his reality to savor her embrace, his own longing too acute to ignore, and he welcomes the drowning bliss of ignorance.
All efforts fall short as he is perfectly attuned to her slight glance at the box, and the too tight hold around his waist, less of an assurance and more an unspoken question of why. She buries her face on his chest as she takes in all of him, and maybe, maybe, maybe for a few seconds he replaces whatever fragments of Sasuke are left in her system.
“Sakura.”
“Hmm?”
“Kiss me.”
In his periphery, he sees their wedding band on her finger, and it triggers an overwhelming pain, that even with this physical assurance, he is constantly fighting for a place in her changing world where he should be the constant in spite of.
It’s days of nuanced tiptoeing and veiled sidestepping that she comes out with a knife.
“I’m pregnant, love.” She smiles; oh his beautiful, lovely, budding spring. She closes her eyes as she hears his sharp intake of breath. Where seconds almost seem to stretch to hours, Kakashi wonders what she expects from him.
He kisses her, so ardently but piercing, demanding, almost pleading. She allows her tears to escape her restraint, as does he. It is a selfish thing, to hinder a lost love trying to walk its meandering path back to its truest soul, its meant to be, its forever, not with its placeholder. But is it really self-interest to stop a heart from being broken again by a man who couldn’t meet his bride at the altar? Or to follow the beat of a soul who let go of one too many love of a lifetimes for someone else?
“I promise I’ll be a good father.” He begs in between the words.
It’ll be a black-haired babe with his eyes.
“Dummy. I know you’ll be.”
But he’ll stay, Kakashi echoes with the spaces, he’ll love the child as if it is his own.
And they cry harder at this stupendous turn of a sad, beautiful tragedy of foregone freedom and second chances.

Before You Go
Pairing: Sasuke Uchiha x Reader
CW: angst
Length: 3.6k+
Summary: You play it through your head. Every moment, every interaction you ever had with Sasuke before he left. Was there something you could have done? Could you have made him stay?
Inspired by: Before You Go by Lewis Capaldi
Tumblr media
Looking at Sasuke hurt. That’s all you could think about for the longest time. To look at Sasuke was to be punched in the stomach, all the air leaving your lungs. It was like someone’s fist tearing through your chest, grabbing your heart and crushing it in their fingers. Looking at Sasuke left your entire existence battered and bruised.
You remember hearing the whispers. Adults whispered a lot, always telling each other secrets. “I’ll tell you when you’re older.” That’s what they always said when you asked them what they were talking about. So much of their conversations were too hard to follow along with. You made a mental registry of all the questions you would ask when you reached this elusive “older” age.
You were nosey, of course; always wanted to hear the ins and outs of things. But the first time you remembered the whispers really catching your interest was when you were seven years old.
“It’s horrible, what happened to the Uchihas.” “I can’t believe he could do that to his own family. “Just tragic.”
Uchiha. A boy in your class had the last name Uchiha. Sasuke. He was really popular, by far the strongest kid in the academy. You never talked to him, but you always noticed how happy he would get when his big brother would come pick him up at the end of the day.
“Did something happen to Sasuke?” You asked, crawling out from underneath the table, earning a startled gasp from you aunt.
“What have I told you about eavesdropping!?” Your mother snapped at you, but she didn’t look angry like usual. She looked worried almost. With a sigh, she pat your head. “Don’t worry too much, okay. It’s nothing. Sasuke is just fine.”
It was natural for a parent to want to protect their child’s innocence. Even at your parent’s age, the Uchiha Massacre was a horrific occurrence; it was too hard for them to process; it would be even harder to try to explain it to you. Ignorantly, your parents thought that if they hid it from you, you would never have to deal with it, but of course that wasn’t true. People talked and word got around. It only took one or two kids in the academy finding out some details for the story to grow and spread.
Sasuske wasn’t at the academy for a month after you heard your parents and aunt whispering about his family, but the next day at school, word was already beginning to get around. Sasuke’s older brother, the one he’d adored so dearly, that he’d smiled so happily at every day, had murdered his whole family, leaving only Sasuke alive.
It would have been better to hear it from your parents, the toned down, soft version of the appalling act as they tried to explain to you for the first time that the world could be a cruel place. But instead, you had to listen in horror while your classmates gossiped, lied, and exaggerated the whole thing, discussing the most traumatizing moment of Sasuke’s life as if it was a new movie playing in the cinema. You’d gone home crying almost every day that week.
When Sasuke finally did come back, he talked to no one, and no one talked to him. He kept to himself, arms crossed and a blank, cold stare on his face that would soon become his signature. You couldn’t believe that such a beautiful smile had ever crossed those icy features.
“Stay away from Sasuke.” Your mom whispered as she walked you home from the academy. When you questioned why, she’d simply shushed you. “Do what I say.”
Parents always know best. That’s all you know when you’re seven years old. They always do and say the right thing, and you always listen because you never have a reason not to. Your mom told you not to talk to Sasuke, so of course you wouldn’t because there must be a good reason not to.
You never told your mother that it was this very command that later shattered your innocence; the first moment when you realized that your mom was not always right.
It wasn’t immediate. You never really talked to Sasuke in the first place, so it was nothing new to ignore him now. But now that you’d been told not too, of course everything in you wanted to go say hello to him.
There is a theory of development that categorizes the age of seven as industry vs inferiority. It’s the first time you’re independently integrating into society and trying to figure out your place. The major question of children this age is “How can I be good or bad?”
And you were no different. This appeared in a lot of ways. When you struggled to hit the target with a kunai, you felt like a failure. When you were corrected by your parents, it felt like criticism and hit you to your core.
But you were moving further than your peers. You didn’t just wonder if you were good or bad based on your skills; you wondered if it made you bad to ignore a person that everyone else seemed to be purposefully isolating as well.
Can I be a good person if I let another person feel miserable?
Sasuke had lost everything, was living on his own in the place his family had been murdered in front of his eyes. Even you could understand that that must be traumatizing. Of course he was angry and cold and closed off. How could anyone fault him for that?
It started slow. “Hi, Sasuke.” You would greet him every day when you got to class. It took him off guard the first couple of times. Once he got used to it, he just “hn’d” in response, but that was okay with you.
Then you started asking him if he wanted to sit with you at lunch, offered him an extra dessert that you would sneak into your pack just for him.
He always told you no, so you would leave him alone and just offer again the next day. Not to be annoying; just to let him know that you were there.
Things changed a few weeks after Sasuke had come back to the academy. You were still saying hi and being ignored, and a few kids had begun to slowly start trying to interact with Sasuke in response. You never really saw him outside of the academy except for this one day you were out with your mom running errands.
You’d never considered how he got food or supplies he needed. You didn’t know where he got the money, but there Sasuke was at the market just like you were. You watched from your mom’s side as he walked up to a fruit stand where there was a group of people examining the different produce. Sasuke reached past someone, grabbing an amaou to put in his bag.
The person next to Sasuke glanced down absentmindedly, but you saw the way their eyes widened as they settled on him, realizing who he was.
“Oh shit,” the guy muttered, dropping his fruit and hurrying away from the stand. One by one, every other person around did the same, looking at Sasuke with an expression of shock or discomfort before speeding off.
You couldn’t see Sasuke’s face from where you were, only his back, but you could see the way his shoulder tightened. He froze completely before his body began to tremble just slightly. Sasuke’s fingers tightened and the fruit was crushed beneath his fingers. He dropped the pulp and the bag with all the other fruit he’d been planning on getting and in a moment, he was gone.
It was the first time you could remember hearing a heart shatter. You just weren’t sure if it was his or yours.
Your mom’s attention was elsewhere, so you took the opportunity to sneak over to the fruit stand, grabbing the bag Sasuke had dropped, examining the produce inside. When back at your mother’s side, you grabbed her hand. “Mom, can I get some fruit?”
Later, you snuck the fruit bag from your kitchen, slinging it over your arm as you walked around the village. You finally found Sasuke sitting under a tree on the outskirts of town. He had his back to the trunk, arms crossed as he stared off. He didn’t look at you, didn’t acknowledge your presence as you approached, but he didn’t tell you to leave, either.
So you slipped down next to him, leaning against the trunk and placing the bag of fruit silently between the two of you as you crossed your legs. With nothing else to do, you began to pick the flowers in the grass, weaving their stems together until you had a small bracelet formed.
What came over you, you weren’t sure. But confidently, you turned to Sasuke where he still sat, staring off with his arms crossed. You reached out, gently taking his arm and untangling it from the other. To your surprise, he didn’t fight you, so you took his hand, sliding the flower bracelet around his wrist.
When you looked up at him, you found that he was already staring at you. He wasn’t smiling, but for the first time in weeks, he wasn’t frowning either.
~
You hated him. You hated Sasuke Uchiha! After everything, the past five years that you had spent together… Had it all meant nothing!?
It was a blow straight to your heart hearing the words when you had come home. “Sasuke has defected from the village.” Sasuke had left to train with Orochimaru, all for his revenge. He hadn’t been kidnapped or forced to go; he left willingly. Just like that. One day he was there, and the next he was gone.
You hadn’t even had the change to go on the retrieval mission. You just had to have gone out of town that day. He’d already been gone for days by the time that you were home. Naruto was the last person that got to see Sasuke before he disappeared; maybe forever.
Even thinking the words had you in hysterics. You sobbed violently into your pillow, the sounds being ripped from your throat. You sobbed so hard your body shook. Your cries were so vicious that you began to vomit, not even able to make it to the trashcan.
That’s where your mother found you hours after you heard. “I told you to stay away from him…” Your mom tsk’d softly.
You would never forgive him.
~
Was there something you could have said or done? You thought you’d been a good friend to Sasuke. You’d always tried to be there, listen in those rare moments that he wanted to talk to you. Ever since you’d given him the bracelet…
That moment was so pivotal in your friendship. Not just that you’d given the gift, but that Sasuke had accepted it. It was the moment that your one sided pursuit of Sasuke had become mutual; the two of you were now friends.
And it wasn’t a normal type of friendship really like your other relationships were. This one was quieter, built around so much that was unsaid, only felt. In Sasuke’s loneliness, you were there standing by and sitting next to him through it all.
You couldn’t take away Sasuke’s pain or hurt, but you could walk with him through it.
Or at least, that’s what you had thought. It’d been stupid. You actually believed that you could help Sasuke, make him feel better when he’d experienced the most appalling sort of loss. Maybe that belief had only made Sasuke feel even more lonely.
Did you ever understand at all? No, you hadn’t, and you knew it. You’d tried your best, done everything you could, but you were just a kid too, and you’d never experienced anything like Sasuke had. How could you have known what to say to make it better?
Despite this, the guilt that you felt was consuming, taking up every part of you. You felt as if you’d drown in it, felt the way it filled your lungs until you couldn’t breathe.
You’d been in denial when you heard the news, felt the anger when the retrieval squad had failed. In the weeks that followed Sasuke’s defect, you’d switched between the two stages almost constantly.
Now, finally, you’d moved onto bargaining.
If Sasuke just comes back… If he just came home, you would be better! Whatever he needed, whatever he wanted, you’d give it to him! Somehow you’d have the right words this time. You would tell him exactly what hear to make it all stop hurting. Whatever it took…
And you bargained hard. You bargained and bartered and you petitioned and you pleaded. You begged whatever god that was listening, tried to sell your soul to the devil, if only, if only it would bring Sasuke back!
But if god existed, he wasn’t listening and the devil had no use for a spirit like yours. You were alone, screaming to the sky.
~
“Sasuke! You’re awake! I was just gonna stop by to see you.”
Sasuke could see that you were in a rush even if you didn’t say it. You were dressed, running your fingers through your hair to throw it up into a bun. There was a dumpling hanging delicately from between your teeth, signaling your quick breakfast you were trying to take on the go.
At this point, Sasuke knew you well.
It wasn’t often Sasuke came to you when he was struggling, at least not outright. There were plenty of times he’d sought your presence to simply suffer in silence, but at least he wasn’t suffering by himself.
This time, he didn’t want to suffer silently. Not right now at least. He’d been thinking hard, struggling all week since Itachi had put him under the Tsukuyomi. Tsunade had been able to bring him back from his comatose state, but hadn’t been able to mend what Itachi had broken and bent in his mind for the second time.
You wouldn’t find out til later, but Sasuke had come straight from the hospital not after waking up, but after challenging Naruto to a fight. Kakashi had broken the two up just before they’d about blown their arms off.
Naruto was surpassing him. That much was so clear, so obvious to him now, but no one wanted to admit it. If even Naruto, the worst of the worst in the academy was getting better than him, at this rate, how would he ever be strong enough to kill Itachi?
Kakashi had lectured him heavily about losing the friends he had left in his mourning of the family that was long gone. It was what Sasuke had wanted to talk to you about. Somehow, he knew Kakashi was right, but when he’d spent the last five years thinking of getting revenge on Itachi, he didn’t know how to reconcile what Kakashi was telling him.
“Stop by? Are you going somewhere?” Sasuke asked the obvious as you finally fixed your hair. You grabbed the dumpling, taking a bite as you nodded.
“To see my aunt,” You said through a mouth full of food. “In the village of the hidden rain.” You tilted your head, peering at him curiously. “Everything okay?”
Sasuke considered the question. You were going out of town, would be gone for a few days at least no doubt. Now probably wasn’t the best time to bring this up, but he wasn’t sure if it could wait until you got back.
As he began to respond, your attention was taken by your dad yelling from inside the house. “Finish packing your bag so we can go!”
You glanced behind you back into the house, rolling your eyes with a sigh. “Hold up!” You snapped before turning your gaze back to Sasuke. “Sorry about that. We’re running behind now, not that it’s my fault.” You gave a small laugh.
Sasuke knew he could have pushed it, and you would have dropped everything to listen to him. Your parents be damned. It’d just been a moment you were distracted from him because of your dad yelling. But now, suddenly, the words left Sasuke. He had nothing to say.
“It’s fine. I just wanted to stop by since they discharged me.” He lied easily, the words slipping off his tongue without dilemma. Even so, you usually would have picked up on it. You would have known that something was off, and you needed to pry.
It was just one time, one moment where you didn’t push him. You were in a rush, afterall, and you’d be back in a couple of days.
It was only hours after you left that the Sound Four had appeared to Sasuke, and minutes after, he was gone.
That moment would replay in your mind constantly in your mind, on repeat until it drove you insane.
You should have noticed. You should have noticed. You should have noticed.
You should have stayed.
~
Time heals nothing, but it gives you more things to worry about. You never thought it’d be possible, but Sasuke was no longer on the forefront of your mind at every moment. Every day, sure, but you were able to function in society, get stronger and attend to your duties.
You were no longer drowning in the sorrow of missing Sasuke, though that was where you’d been for so long you never thought you’d escaped. But finally, you’d hit the last stage of grief.
Acceptance. Sasuke was gone and there was nothing you could do.
You could have lived out the rest of your life in that acceptance, pushed the dull, ever present pain aside and pretend it wasn’t there, but you couldn’t do that. Naruto Uzumaki wouldn’t let you.
Hope was alive and well in Naruto’s heart and thus he stirred it in yours. “I’m gonna bring Sasuke back. Just you watch.” He’d grin at you.
You didn’t know where in the stages grief you were now, but you believed Naruto. He’d get Sasuke home even if you couldn’t.
You wished he never gave you that hope.
Kiba had picked up Sasuke’s scent. You were almost there. Almost to Sasuke…
That was when the orange masked Akatsuki member intercepted your team, keeping you from reaching Sasuke. You were desperate, feral almost as you attacked the man. To move him, killl him, it didn’t matter to you. You just needed to get past him, to get to Sasuke!
Another Akatsuki member appeared then, taking the attention from the masked man. You were about to make a break for it, but that’s when you heard him.
“Itachi is dead.”
The words settled on you, blood rushing to you ears and drowning out everything else. That was what Sasuke had always wanted; he’d finally done it. He’d killed Itachi, gotten his revenge. This should be a good thing.
You couldn’t explain it, but something was settling in your gut, a horrible, nauseating feeling that this was wrong. This wasn’t how things should have ended. Despite everything you knew and believed, you suddenly had the certainty that Itachi wasn’t the heartless monster everyone had believed he was.
Was it intuition, coincidence, or some unexplained connection you had to Sasuke? Glancing at Naruto, you could see he felt it too.
None of you noticed the masked man had disappeared. You followed Kiba as quick as your feet could carry you to where he tracked Sasuke’s scent, but by the time you got there, it was too late. He was gone.
“This is as far as I can smell him… We lost him.” Kiba told the team reluctantly.
You dropped to your knees, hand clutching desperately at your chest. You couldn’t breathe. It hurt; it hurt so fucking much you were sure you would die. The pain in your heart seized every part of you, knocking the air from your lungs and causing you to convulse.
Dropping to the floor, you began to sob. Those heart broken, anguished cries you thought you ran out of years ago.
“Sasuke…”
How you knew, you couldn’t be sure. But it wasn’t your own pain you were feeling. It was Sasuke’s tears that flowed down your cheeks and his aching regret that filled your heart. Where was he? You wanted nothing more than to be there with him now, to wrap him up in your arms and never let him go.
The team winced as you weeped so brokenly, the sound shattering their hearts.
You’d never understood, not really. As much as you wanted to, despite your best attempts, you never could grasp the layers of Sasuke’s pain. If only you’d been able to. If only you knew the storm that was building inside of him, leaving him restless and agitated, desperate for the carnage to end. You wish you knew that he couldn’t stand it, the way that every beat of his heart left him in pure agony.
Was there a way you could have made his heart beat better?
Every night, you saw Sasuke in your dreams, his back to you as he left. You lived it over and over and over again.
”Sasuke,” You called for the first time, watching him pause, but not turning to look at you. “Before you go… Was there something I could have said or done? To make it all stop hurting?” You waited for an answer that never came. Sasuke stood there for a few more moments before he walked away, disappearing into darkness.
You guessed you would never know.

NaruSaku Fanfics
I wouldn't say much – I love NaruSaku and I hate to see great works shadowed behind the piles of popular NS stories that I never have liked as much except for a few, which also I'll drop below in the list.
Tumblr media
I'll update this list whenever I come across a story that I particularly enjoy or finds worth spreading word across. So be sure to like and reblog this post so you can revisit it to add new story in your reading pile later.
Also, genres vary and are not mentioned, but does it make any difference as long as the story is good?
Warning: super long post featuring beautiful, beautiful stories that you wouldn't regret reading. I swear. I'm positive. Contains SNS and other side pairings.
Without further ado;
How I fell in love with my best friend: Krapo || ff.net || M || complete
How the little blond boy Sakura had always known had changed, changing as well her feelings. The unfolding of their life, while Naruto worked to become the best Hokage and she faced her own emotions. Growing Love.
(I have nothing but upmost reverence for this story. This author writes one of the nest NS and I have loved all. NS is beautiful and Sakura is badass. Everything we already know is here and more.)
.
Dangerous infiltration mission: Krapo || ff.net || M || complete
Naruto and Sakura are send by the Hokage for a difficult infiltration mission. They will have to face more than just the danger itself as they will have to keep their cover to be fake husband and wife credible. how it will impact the relationship between the two ninja. Growing Love. Misunderstanding.
(If you loved the aforementioned story, you'll love this one too. Mutual pining.)
.
All over again: Krapo || ff.net || M || post-war || complete
Sasuke come back, Team seven is reunited. But Sakura has lost Naruto. How will she make him fall in love with her again? What other difficulties lies ahead of them?
(Naruto loses memory. SasuSaku angst but not in romantic sense and I loved it all. Misunderstanding and more mutual pining. And I'm in love with this story too.)
.
Hit the floor running: Sakurablossom009 || A03 || M (but unnecessary) || Modern Hitman/Robbers AU || complete
Life was going great, Sakura thought. She was penniless, stranded in Europe without a way home, her fiancee had just dumped her for another woman AND her new companion was quite possibly a thief. How could things get any worse? Wait...was that guy pointing a gun at her?
(Now, personally, I don't prefer modern AU, but this story really had interesting characterisation and more character depth. NaruSaku is pretty spot on. It also features SasuHina and bamf!Hinata)
.
The greatest pretenders: snowyseas || ff.net || M || Borutoverse || ongoing
Fifteen years is a long time to not talk to someone you consider your best friend, and is made even more difficult when they (and you) are married. The things Sakura should have confronted Naruto about never came to fruition, but as an old saying goes, "the truth will always be revealed".
(Your typical I-made-a-wrong-choice-but-now-can-be-done story but unlike many other stories in this they don't admit their love for each chapter at the first chapter itself. In fact, it feels so canon and you can almost superimpose it upon the canon. Sakura is mentally strong and knows what's right. )
.
He was the sun: SavageTrickster || ff.net || T || Canonverse || ongoing
He had come a long way - from a lonely orphan ostracized by everyone to a loved hero. He deserved all these. His Hokage dream to come true. All the ramen he could eat. - Her eyes fell on a certain Hyuuga seated close enough for accidental touches. Her heart sank a little at a harsh whisper of reminder - And a deserving girl...who could give him all her love.
(So far so good. It's ongoing, and is at chapter 3. Sakura leaves Konoha much like how Naruto did, to explore the world aka seeing my headcanon in writing.)
.
Wilderness: Kanji no Sakka || M || canondivergent || ongoing
As the war screeches to a temporary halt, Naruto leaves the battlefield on a unique mission only he can complete. Sakura is ordered to go with him. In the days that follow their bond is changed forever.
(Although I hate any explicit stories that involve characters below age 17, I give this a pass because of the uniqueness of plot and characterisation. It has fine lemons that comes with a good plot.)
.
How It Should Have Been: OfPaintAndOil || ff.net || T || canon divergent || oneshot
It wasn't supposed to be this way. Sasuke was supposed to be the dark one, the unredeemable one. Naruto was the bright one, the good one. It wasn't supposed to be like this, with blood on his hands and glowing red eyes and a grin. Naruto was supposed to make everything better, and maybe he did, in the end, but Sakura had never expected the end to look quite like this.
(Featuring Yandere!Naruto. It leaves you wanting for more and is a fascinating read. It's dark themed so proceed with caution as your favorite character might or might not be dead.)
.
The Best Dates are the Cheap Ones: Shivakashi || ff.net || T || post!Timeskip || Oneshot
The whole point was to get the best date; that meant the richest and classiest guy, right? Sakura realizes what she has taken for granted and Ino learns a lesson in value.
(Sakura learns her lesson and snatches her boy. InoNaru is worth noting. Not the best characterisation of Sakura but bear with her jealousy for that is the reason why NS fluff exists. Story itself is very light and entertaining.)
.
mangoes and strawberries: ohthelinsanity || ff.net || T || postwar || oneshot
Sakura Haruno was elbow deep in Naruto Uzumaki's guts when he asked her to marry him. It was so not the right time. But she still said yes.
(This story just screams NS upon every single line. Diabetes warning. Too cute for this world. One of the best NS fluff I've read thus far. It kinda sticks to you forever!)
.
18 minutes, 23 seconds: ohthelinsanity || ff.net || T || postwar || oneshot
in which Naruto asks Sakura about that time she literally reached into his chest and grabbed his heart with her bare hand.
(Heartwarming. We all know how Sakura held Naruto's heart on her palms and how we love that moment. This is memory of that moment reminisced by our cutie pies.)
.
One Big Uzumaki Family: John Smith || ff.net || T || postwar || Complete
A set of drabbles revolving around Naruto, Sakura, and their children. It turns out that, when the war ends, these two get busy. Real busy.
(IF YOU DON'T READ THIS MASTERPIECE HOW DARE YOU CALL YOURSELF NS FAN?!!! READ!!! This story should be on the top of your reading list.
UNDERRATED AF!
R e a d t h i s s t o r y and cry with me for this should have been canon. 100%)
.
My Life Would Suck Without You: peanutbutter126 || ff.net || T || oneshot collection
Sometimes it's the smallest things that matter the most.
(Read this and then One big Uzumaki family. You'll feel super satisfied. I promise.)
.
Colors and Carousels: Folle Sakura || ff.net || T || oneshot
She couldn't count the number of times she'd been mistaken for Naruto's girlfriend. Not that she minded. But Naruto acted like it was so… so… offensive.
(No words for this one. Just read and enjoy the confusion.)
.
Let's Get Married: luvtoshi || ff.net || M || postwar || complete
It was supposed to be a simple solution to their immediate problems. But maybe they took more than they can chew?
(This is one of my few favorites that is also popular. Spot on characterization and beautiful relationship growth. This is one of the few stories that always stuck to me.)
.
Chasing Smoke with Bare Hands: soulaire || ff.net || T || oneshot
"I could have loved her," Sasuke says flatly. "If she'd just given me the chance—" "Sakura gave you all the chances in the world," Kakashi cuts in, stern. "You underestimated her. And you underestimated her ability to walk away from you. At the core of it all, that's where things went wrong."
(This story is for those who loves both SS and NS but thinks Sakura deserves happier life than what she got in canon. Features NS and slight SS.)
.
Touch: ohthelinsanity || ff.net || T || oneshot
Kakashi watches as his student grow to be more physically comfortable with one another. He finds it kinda ridiculous.
(Fluff. Feelings. Kakashi's fed up and might have diabetes from all the observation.)
.
Moonlight shadows: luvtoshi || ff.net || T || oneshot
Sometimes, the moon brings out hidden feelings to the surface.
(Beautiful literature. NS feels. You can almost mistake it for canon with the way characters are written.)
.
Seriously Serious: Damsel in Shining Armor || ff.net || T || modern AU || oneshot
He confessed to her when they first met. He confessed to her years after. He confessed to her almost everyday. Her response was almost always positive... So why the heck was he still single? "I love you." "Love you too. So is Sasuke-kun taken or not?"
(The only reason why I even picked this story is that it is a oneshot. I have very little interest in modern AU. But this one makes another exception. Pining. Love at first sight.)
.
It was always you: luvtoshi || ff.net || M || postwar || complete
The war is long over. They have both grown. Now it's time to conclude their story. Naruto and Sakura.
(You know what, all stories from this author are just, Chef's kiss. )
.
A Safe Pair of Hands: Kanji no Sakka || ff.net || T || oneshot
Sakura heeds a stern warning to make it clear how she feels about Naruto.
(Feels. You'll love this if you like first person pov. This story told from Sakura's pov.)
.
Other Dreams: tricksie || ff.net || M || oneshot
"Naruto, you shouldn't endanger yourself—" "Stop it," he snapped. Dropping his arm to hook under her seat, Naruto pulled her firmly onto his hip, locking her to him. Sakura gasped, suddenly aware of just how very close they were.
(Sexual tension. Romance. Leaves you wanting. Also, high on feels and lust on equal measure.)
.
Heaven Unexpected: Folle || ff.net || M || oneshot
Because nothing can happen; it's Naruto. He always comes back. He's practically indestructible.
(Heavy on feels. There are chances that it might rain. Actually there are high chances. But oh well, it's beautiful and one of my favourites so here it goes.)
.
Shade of the Leaf: Ravyn || ff.net || T || canon divergent || complete
Sasuke is back. Naruto has joined ANBU. Sakura is spending more time in the hospital than in the field. Team 7 struggles to redefine itself, because sometimes you don't know what you really want after all.
(Featuring Mature but still in-character!Naruto, Badass!Sakura, (Bit)Supportive!Sasuke along with Team 7 friendship. Mutual pining. Ending but with a lot loose ends.)
.
Breaking Up Isn't that Hard to Do: Narf-for-the-Garthoc || ff.net || T || oneshot
This is not an epic tale of action, suspense and true love. Yeah, I'm disappointed, too.
(This is pure comedy. With a dash of romance. And insanity.)
.
Steamy Encounters: Narf-for-the-Garthoc || ff.net || T || oneshot
A flurry of coincidences and fateful machinations bring Naruto and Sakura together at the local baths. Can they rein in their animal passions? And do you really think that's the kind of story I write?
(Just r e a d. Please.)
.
Garden of Sanctuary: Nes Mikel || ff.net || T || Canon divergent || oneshot
An alternate ending to Naruto. The Heavens describe the Garden a peaceful paradise. The Hells describe the Garden a baneful prison. In here... which is it?
(This is part of a series which you can follow from the author's profile. This is the second part, but can be read exclusively. As far as the AU goes, this story and settings is brilliant and heartbreaking. This is told from Naruto's pov. To look at things from Sakura's, read the first part. It is multi-chaptered.)
.
Complications: Geno Calamari || ff.net || T || canon divergent || oneshot
While capturing the Kyuubi, Uchiha Itachi finds true adversaries in the form of Haruno Sakura and Uzumaki Naruto.
(Wanna see NaruSaku teamwork? This is it! You wouldn't find it anywhere better. Strong!Naruto, Strong!Sakura versus Itachi Uchiha)
.
Life is a waving feather: jusrecht || AO3 || T || AU || oneshot
Everyone thought they were inevitable.
(There's beauty in subtlety and this is that. Also, mentions of character death.)
.
Home: kirabook || AO3 || T || AU || complete
Shinachiku finds himself in a strange place with little to no explanation. Everyone he knows is there, but why are they acting so strangely? Why do they seem so different? And where is his home?
(Cute and heartwrenching at the same time. Cameo Stalker. Read this for NS family feels pre-marriage.)
.
Things we never say: thekatthatbarks || AO3 || T || oneshot
She wished she knew how to hold things lightly. There were some things she was terrified of breaking. Whether it be from an honest misstep or simply because she could.
(Reminds you why we love NS so much.)
.
Open seasons: sazzafraz || AO3 || T || SNS || postwar || oneshot
The way Sasuke comes home is less myth and more devastatingly embarrassing happenstance.
(Featuring badass!Sakura, obedient!Naruto and normal!Sasuke, as well as Sakura's commentary on her life)
.
Five things Sakura will never tell Naruto: sowell || AO3 || T || AU || oneshot
Kunoichi know how to keep their secrets.
(NS relationship analysis story.)
.
Artistic purposes: StormyInk || AO3 || M || AU || Oneshot
Sai finds his favorite drawing subjects a bit lacking of late, and he sets a plan into motion to draw his team mates together. Simply for the sake of his art, of course.
(Aka Sai is fed up from seeing his teammates dancing around each other and decides to help them get laid–the story. You gotta admit Sai is the best wingman.)
.
I collect my tears (so I can drown you in them): amako || AO3 || T || AU || complete
The hardest thing is letting go. Or Sakura sees Naruto falling in love with Shikamaru a little more every day, and she does the only thing she can think of. Then it's only a matter of learning how to stop loving Naruto.
(Sakura and Angst that has nothing to do with Sasuke. Featuring Sakura-sensei. And Shikamaru. It's a great story if you know when to let go of canon)
.
Stranger than the wild: kiddattwell || AO3 || M || SNS || postwar || Ongoing
The war is over and Sasuke is home for good, but Sakura can't choose between the boys she loves. Sasuke still has his demons and Naruto still fights them and Sakura still follows them both, but this time down a path that none of them expected.
(This is canon. It is the best SNS story I've ever read. Story told in SNS POV in rotation. Slow burn, pining and relationship complication. YOU GOTTA READ THIS, I INSIST!!!! Also features SaiIno and InoShika.)
.
Bringing Back Sasuke: Blue Jeans || ff.net || T || post war || oneshot
Naruto brings Sasuke back to Sakura. Many, many times over. Sasuke does not appreciate; not the blood and definitely not the angst.
(I've read this story multiple times and it gets funnier and makes your heart hurt and swell simultaneously each time. NaruSaku wouldn't be blissfully happy together without Sasuke thrown somewhere in the mix, that's exactly why I love SNS. This story perfectly represents the dynamic of team 7.)
.
Yurei: Kanji no Sakka || ff.net || T || AU || oneshot
The past should stay dead and buried, but it won't if Naruto can't let go.
(Not exactly my favourite story, but I liked the concept. We all know how stubborn Naruto is once decides on something. If he wants to become Hokage, he will become Hokage. If he believes in Sasuke, he will believe in him forever. If he loves Sakura, he will marry her – uh, or should have, very OCC of him that he didn't.)

Yandere! Itachi X Reader Headcannons
The reader is precieved as a normal civilization rather than a ninja.
ALSO I learned how to do the "read more" thing on my phone and now I'm happy uvu- and to any friends that read this, I'm so sorry but I've never been so dedicated to a fandom in a long time lol. I might make a oneshot later for this, too, and I do, you should see a link under this paragraph somewhere.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
🖤 Itachi is a mature and collected person, so I'd think it'd be unlikely for him to just grow obsessed at once. Itachi would have to come across Y/N many times before releasing he's in love.
🖤 The way he'd meet Y/N would be when he'd be scouting an area for a particular enemy. He'd happen to come across her, who interacted with him a little but nothing interesting happened. Overtime, the two would see each other here and there, until eventually everyday.
🖤 When his enemy he was looking for had been eliminated, he said his goodbyes to Y/N before leaving. He expected to move on, but his mind would wonder back to her no matter how hard he tried.
🖤 Eventually, Itachi would see Y/N whenever he had free time. He'd make room in his day to spend hours together; they'd go out to eat, participate in festivals, talk, and more.
🖤 On Y/N's side, it didn't take long before she started to feel romantic interest. Afterall, Itachi was calm, collected, smart, strong, fun to be around, and seemed genuinely interested in her. She was definitely in love before he was.
🖤 Around the time Itachi would visit the Leaf Village to find Naruto, he strangely started to worry a lot about Y/N learning about who he was and fear him. He couldn't help but want to shield her from the truth, and if the people around them learned that the man Y/N was with was wanted, it would end bad for them.
🖤 Itachi was inevitably worrying a little too much about the possibility of her finding out. He went to see her and did his best to distract her from any gossip or drama whatsoever to ensure she'd never hear about the Akatsuki. His time spent with her increased from a few hours to half the day.
🖤 Itachi wouldn't ever want to kidnap or drag people into his life. He hates killing, he hates being "evil", he hates everything about his dark lifestyle. The decision to either abandon someone he began to care for or to take her away was a very hard one.
🖤 Itachi realized something in the process of thinking of a solution. He loved Y/N; he loved her to the point where the thought of her hating or fearing him scared him so badly. Even with Sasuke, the thought of him having him was terrifying but something he could live with.
🖤 It was releasing to learn about his own true feelings. He was desperately in love with Y/N, to the point where she was like air, or food, or water. Like in order to live, she had to be around.
🖤 As word spread about two strange people walking around Konoha and that Orochimaru took the last Uchiha, it was inevitable that Y/N would learn about the info. The next time she saw Itachi, she brought it up to him and expressed her discomfort in the fact that she could be among evil people.
🖤 He was scared. So scared that she would hate him for his lifestyle after finding out about who he really is. So that was it; his mind was made. He took Y/N away that night.
🖤 When word about the Akatsuki in Konoha, he received a lot more looks when he was in public than normal. He'd usually have a normal kimono on and have his hair in a different, though similar, style in order to appear normal. But he knew deep down in his heart that people are bound to start suspecting him of being an Akatsuki. And overhearing someone talk about an S class Uchiha member is what did it.
🖤 "You've been asking about where I live for a whole now. Would you like see my home?" Itachi asked. Y/N happily agreed to go, and sorta expected his home to be outside of her village. But the further she traveled, she grew a bit nervous and wanted to return home (as you would if you were led outside of your village into deep woods)
🖤 Itachi wasn't escorting Y/N alone. Of course, the Akatsuki is bound to learn about that girl Itachi insisted on bringing up in most of his little amounts of conversations. It was obvious he was obsessed with her, as much as he would try to hid it, but he just couldn't get her off his mind. So the night where he choose to bring her home, Kisame was watching the two frkm afar in case something happened.
🖤 Before that day, Itachi had mentioned that he wanted to protect Y/N. Over the three months Itachi spent with Y/N, he had plenty of time to talk about her enough to where the other members basically knew her.
🖤 Itachi actually got a few of the members (ex. Kisame, Deidara) were interested in Y/N as well. How could someone as "heartless" as Itachi Uchiha fall in love, and in such a dramatic way at that? They were sorta curious to see what was so special about her.
🖤 Anyway, you can imagine how Itachi convinced Y/N to go far enough into the woods to go to a small little cottage. Was it part of the Akatsuki hideout? No. Itachi would never trust the Akatsuki members with Y/N alone, and she needs her freedom to walk around a house.
🖤 The inside was sorta minimalistic, but not completely empty. To the far right was a kitchen was a small dining table with two chairs, and on the opposite side was two rooms. In one room was a single bed with a closet in it, and in the other room was a bathroom. Between the kitchen and two rooms was a small living room with a couch, coffee table, and more. There were bored games in a little dresser in the living room, along with a full bookshelf with books of all genres.
🖤 "Care for dinner?" Itachi had asked. He wanted to tell Y/N why she's there over a dinner he made and had prepared in advance. It turns out he was amazing at cooking.
🖤 It wasn't very easy, but Itachi managed to explain his feelings towards Y/N. Of course, Y/N happily excepted and was quick to hug and express her feelings towards him. He returned the hug and spoke about how he loved her very much, however he had so much more to say to her.
🖤 Justifyingly so, Y/N was frozen in shock when Itachi told his story. He killed everyone in his clan aside from his brother, the well-known Uchiha. How he fled his clan after committing the murders and joined an infamous group; The Akatsuki.
🖤 While displaying himself as calm, he was so overwhelmed and scared within his mind. He knew he'd have to tell her why she's staying at the house and why, from now one, she'll never leave. But he was smart enough to know she wouldn't simply except living here out of love. He would have to be a bit manipulative to keep Y/N.
🖤 Y/N was mortified and didn't notice the tears pouring out of her eyes. She fell desperately in love with a murderer. She felt so sick, so scared. She stood up, begging to go home so desperately, trembling over her own words. She was so scared for her life now, and what Itachi's intentions were. Truly, Itachi's heart broke at this.
🖤 "Y/N, darling," Itachi spoke, his words laced with love as she softly grabbed Y/N wrists and leaned close. "I had to take you away. I couldn't let them take you from me."
🖤 He was very delicate with Y/N as he calmed her down, as if she was glass. His heart ached at her pain, but he truly believed it was for the best. In a way it really was; people saw Y/N with the tall raven boy many times in public, and her parents and friends had met him too. Once they find out that boy is the Itachi, Y/N could be killed if they think she was aiding him.
🖤 Itachi did his best to show her around and make her feel comfortable. But no matter what he did, Y/N felt so broken, so empty, so confused. There's no way that sweet Itachi she loves is a killer. He has to be lying.
🖤 Over the course of a few days, Y/N learned to except the fact she's held at that small home. She tried to think on the good side; she could decorate it how she wants, has more freetime, can focus on her hobbies and learn to cook new things, and more! Even if she's never allowed to leave the house, Itachi let's her do basically anything around the home.
🖤 Y/N still loves him. As months go by of being alone for a few days without Itachi, some days with him for a little bit, and some full days with him, she still couldn't help but appreciate him just as much as before. No, she appreciates him more even. She just can't help but love him, and he loves her too.
🖤 Itachi felt much more relaxed around Y/N and tried to spend every second he could with her. He was so shameful of keeping her from her home, but it was for the best wasn't it?
🖤 Most of Itachi's emotions about keeping her was all because he lived her and never wanted to see her with anyone else. But he had always found an excuse as to why it's for the best that she's never with anyone else.
🖤 Kisame had met Y/N a few times. She was never comfortable with him however and was typically holding onto Itachi's sleeve, or leaning on him when he's around. However Kisame would be around when Itachi wasn't sometimes to keep watch.
🖤 As long as Itachi or Kisame was present, Y/N is allowed to go outside and visit close villages other than the one Y/N is from. She would be allowed to buy anything she wanted and could afford from these places, but she had to go home eventually.
🖤 At the end of the day, Y/N had quite a lot of freedom and eventually, she was happy. She was happy to be living with Itachi and was perfectly happy calling him her husband.
🖤 Itachi never wanted a marriage though. He was going blind and he planned to be murdered by his brother and he never dared to make her a young widow. When Izumi had died, he felt so distraught and he knew Y/N is bound to feel the same, but even worse if they got married.
🖤 When Itachi died, as said, Y/N was distraught. No, she was mortified. Absolutely mortified. Even if she was free, she had lost the last person she had a connection with. And she carried that sorrow to her grave.
Sasuke is in a way, the hero of the series. Just maybe not from the ninja point of view. See, I was thinking and I realised, throughout the series we almost only ever see opinions about Sasuke from a ninja perspective.
For the regular people out there, Sasuke is a hero. By killing Orochimaru, he saved the lives of thousands of people across the continent. Slaves and prisoners, human experimentation victims, brainwashed child soldiers, all the kids who were kidnapped for their interesting abilities, and all the ninja working under him as the Sound Village. Orochimaru, in the anime at least, had essentially overthrown the leader of a small country and placed himself in charge. By killing him, Sasuke freed thousands from death, experimentation or simply a life lived in fear.
With Orochimaru's death all these people were free to return to their homes and communities or travel somewhere new. And as they moved on from all the different bases scattered around the elemental nations, these people would be spreading the story of how Uchiha Sasuke, who's still only a child, was the one to kill Orochimaru. That Sasuke, at only sixteen, was the one to save them from the madman terrorising their communities and country for years. While Konoha, who should have been responsible, did nothing. We even see Suigetsu encouraging the freed prisoners to spread the word “I have one favour to ask” “The one who defeated Orochimaru and gave us our freedom is Sasuke. When you're out, spread the word to everyone... A man has appeared who will bring peace and tranquility to this world”
Time and again, shinobi villages and their wars have destroyed the lives and homes of the civilians living in those areas, like we see in Rain. To these people Sasuke isn't a traitor or evil or lost to the darkness or whatever it is that the leaf people believe. He's a fellow victim of a shinobi system that does not care about the people who it hurts. His entire clan was massacred within the walls of the village and yet Konoha does not even bother to bring their killer to justice. Once he was outside their walls he was someone else's problem. Konoha failed Sasuke and the Uchiha and so Sasuke, despite still being a child, stepped up to do it himself.
And he did. Sasuke went above and beyond and as a teenager did what Konoha were seemingly incapable of (or just couldn't be bothered to do). Sasuke went against the ninja rules, left his fascist village, killed Orochimaru, got justice for his clan, killed the war hawk Danzo. He helped save the entire world. And throughout the entire thing he didn't kill a single civilian or child.
He's consistently shown that he values the lives of people above following the shinobi system. From most civilians point of view, Sasuke fights for the regular people of the world. And he's been doing so all along. Throughout his time with Orochimaru, Sasuke goes out of his way to avoid killing. The only person he is known to have killed in that entire time is Orochimaru himself. That sort of thing is going to be remembered.
Danzo, while few know the true extent of his crimes, is a known warmonger. He has a reputation as a heavily militaristic man and has been on Konoha's Council since the second shinobi war. He clearly spells bad news for the people who would be hit the worst by the effects of war. And again, Sasuke goes against the system and kills a man who has not only ruined thousands of lives already, but had just been put in a position to do even more damage.
Sasuke is literally known as one of the two people to have essentially saved the world! Naruto may be the hero of the shinobi world but Sasuke's the hero of everyone else.
The Akatsuki as Parents
Obito
Was a bit reluctant when he found out he was going to be a daddy ... at first. Not because he didn’t want kids ((he really did)), but because he severely doubted his own ability to be a father. But the second he holds the baby in his arms, he’s hooked. He will be so eagerly helpful and hands-on that during the child’s infancy, the other parent will rarely have to lift a finger. Diapers need changing? Obito’s on it. Baby needs to be fed at 2am? Obito’s already out of bed and warming formula on the stove. Rash? Fever? A cough? Obito is consulting every doctor within a 20 mile radius on what to do. Note that Obito is a hard-core traditionalist and, if he isn’t married to the child’s other parent before he gets them pregnant, he’ll be persistent about doing so before the kid is born. Sobs the first time his child calls him “papa”. As the child grows older, Obito will be a tireless teacher and mentor, and you better believe that the kid will know every facet of what was once the Uchiha clan. Sharingan training is a bit nerve-wracking for Dad, because while he wants his child to grow strong, he knows the power of the eye is a deadly one, and doesn’t like to see his son/daughter get hurt. Is the type to be a bit more strict with his sons than with daughters, in fact being a complete pushover for anything his little girl(s) wants. Very, VERY likely to insist a girl be named Nohara. Also the type to sneak and let his kid eat lots of sweets (like Obito himself does) before meals, much to the other parent’s chagrin. Also involves the other Akatsuki members as uncles/aunt in the kid’s life, especially Itachi and Sasuke as he wants the kid to be exposed to members of the family more often.
Hidan
The literal first words out of his mouth are “pregnant? Why the hell didn’t you make me wear a condom?!” Takes a long time to warm up to the idea of parenthood, but once he does, he’s surprisingly better at it than anyone would anticipate. He tends to be very fast-paced in his body movements and not really used to being careful, so if he’s holding his infant it’s best to make him sit still in a chair first. Once the kid(s) is older, it’s better, because Hidan’s energy levels will match (and overshadow) even the liveliest of children. It will be a big point of contention between Hidan and his co-parent on whether or not to introduce their kid to Jashinism, and Hidan will eventually promise to wait until the child is an adult to start talking about “all that shit”; although Hidan’s idea of adulthood seems to be when the kid is old enough to use a kunai. Puts a startling amount of emphasis on his kid getting a good education, and will be sure to send him or her to the best village school that he possibly can. The reason behind this is because Hidan himself had a poor education growing up, and is in fact barely able to read or do basic math; and he says over and over that his kid “isn’t gonna be some dumbass like his/her father”.
Kakuzu
Nearly faints when told he’s going to be a father. Will immediately get out a calculator and start figuring out expenses like diapers, food, toys, education ... is so preoccupied that he ends up neglecting the person who carries his child, causing them to go off on their own expecting to be a single parent. Oddly, it’s Hidan who sets the old guy straight. He stays on his case and talks to him until the nonagenarian sees the error of his ways, and goes after the person having his baby. Kakuzu will be gentle with a baby, and show a surprising affinity for making up and singing lullabies. As the kid gets older, Kakuzu will be a bit more strict. “Food is expensive; you better eat every bite on your plate.” “A hole in your pants? No give them to me and I’ll mend them; buying new clothes is unnecessary.” His child will grow up knowing how to stretch a buck and budget money better than any other kid their age. Kakuzu isn’t really one for showing much warmth or affection, but there will be a few rare moments in his kid’s life where his father hugs him and tells him how proud he is of him. Kakuzu knows that the life of a shinobi is hard and therefore encourages his kid to pursue other career paths, such as opening up his/her own business.
Konan and Nagato
These two are so closely intertwined that they could only be parental mates to each other. When a baby comes into the picture, Nagato will still maintain his position as leader of the Akatsuki as Pein, but will insist that Konan quit. It’s for a practical purpose rather than a sentimental one; they both lost their collective parents to war, and Nagato always thought that if he had a child, he’d ensure that at least one parent would be around to always take care of him or her. Konan, however, will still keep in touch with all of the Akatsuki members, who will become very enthusiastic uncles to her child. She’s always been a good cook but with a child she’ll level up to professional chef caliber, creating dishes that are fun and healthy. Her child(ren) will be taught all of their mother’s paper jutsus, and Nagato will work to devise a way for the brightest one to get his rinnegan once he passes. The kids will primarily spend time with Nagato through Pein, and only be taken to meet their father when Konan feels they’re ready. Because Konan and Nagato had a childhood devoid of parental love, they’re often at a loss for how to be affectionate or sentimental, instead putting a lot of emphasis on “toughening” their kids up, so that they’re prepared to face the cruelties of the world. But the kids will know that mom and dad love them; it’s obvious in everything they say and do.
Deidara
Will be the fun, loving, yet highly irresponsible father. As soon as his kid is born he anxiously awaits to see if he or she inherits his explosion-release kekkei genkai; and if the kid DOES, he’s ecstatic. “Art is an explosion” won’t just be a saying in his household; it’ll be a way of life. The child will grow up given complete freedom to express his or her artistic tendencies, with Deidara highly praising any and every impact they make on the outside world. Yet despite being for artistic creativity, he’ll be (surprisingly) strongly against the child joining any kind of organization that’s like the Akatsuki; he regrets his own decision to join as he feels it out a horrible damper on his artistic expression and independence. Likes to tell his young children stories every night, which are actually just heavily edited and sanitized versions of his Akatsuki missions. Like Obito, will be a bit more of a pushover for a daughter than a son, and will love spending hours brushing and styling the beautiful long hair that the girl inherits from him. He’ll let any member of the Akatsuki around his kids except for Hidan (because he doesn’t want his foul language around the child).
Zetsu
There are people in this world who know for certain that their lives wouldn’t be fulfilled by having children, and Zetsu is one of these individuals. While wanting no offspring of his own, he IS rather a good “uncle” to the children of his fellow Akatsuki members ((although the majority of these kids are too terrified of his physical appearance to want to go anywhere near him until they’re at least teenagers)).
Sasori
A child would be hard-pressed to elicit any kind of emotional reaction from Sasori, as the man cleared himself of most feeling when he underwent his puppet transformation. However, one thing that he could never rid himself of, was his ability to love. Even if he has difficulty showing it, he loves his child and would do literally anything to help or protect them. When the child is a baby, Sasori will spend hours crafting tiny puppet-dolls for the kid to play with. As he grew up with a skilled medic grandmother, he possesses a wide knowledge of herbs and healing, which he will painstakingly pass on to his children. Not one to baby his children by any means, as he lives by the philosophy that the world is tough meaning you have to be tougher; however will offer advice, support, and encouragement on any issues that may be troubling his son/daughter. Early on he expresses a desire for his child to learn to be a master puppeteer like himself; however will be understanding if they choose to pursue a different path. Is very smart and naturally mistrustful of strangers, so will likely choose to educate his kids at home rather than send them to a village school. The type to seem more like a trusted mentor or an interesting uncle than an actual father; also the type to relate to his teen or adult children better than young kids.
Itachi
Itachi never feels like he deserves any of the good things in life, because of what he’s done, and therefore doesn’t know how to handle blessings that are given to him. A baby is the ultimate example of this. Itachi will feel as though any child of his would be better off not knowing him or being “exposed” to the cursed Uchiha bloodline, so at first he’ll make it a point to barely be around his baby ((even though this kills him inside)). Surprisingly, of all people, it’s Deidara who will talk him out of this mindset, telling him how important it is for a child to be around their father “even if he is a damned red-eyed weirdo”. Once Itachi allows himself to fully commit to parenthood, that’s it — he’ll be the best damned father in the universe. He’ll be warm and affectionate, especially liking to pick his kid up (no matter how old they are or how embarrassed it makes them) and squeeze them. He’s not much of a disciplinarian, believing that kids need to be able to make mistakes in order to grow from them. The only time he’ll ever get angry is when the child does something that could have resulted in a serious injury. Itachi’s intelligence has always been off the charts, and he utilizes this to help his kid be a spectacular student. In fact, as the kid gets older, they’ll start bringing his/her friends around the house in order to receive Itachi’s tutoring. Itachi’s brother Sasuke will adore his nephew/niece and come home more often simply to be with them. Also Kisame will come around practically every day, and the kid will grow up learning an impressive arsenal of water jutsus to compliment the traditional Uchiha fire jutsus.
Kisame
The tall, somewhat awkward father that scares all of his kid’s friends with his intimidating physical appearance ... until he opens his mouth and they hear a god-awful dad joke come out. Any child of Kisame’s is going to be part shark, and therefore have some affinity for being in/breathing under the water. Kisame’s favorite pastime will be taking his baby (and yes, I do mean baby, as he tends to start his kid on this when they’re young) out for long swims in the ocean. Kisame has always been self-conscious of his looks, so from the time the child is born he will spend a good deal of time teaching him or her to have self-confidence and love for him/herself. Like many of the others in the Akatsuki, Kisame never received much of a formal education, and therefore puts a lot of emphasis on his child going to a “normal” school and giving it their all when it comes to their studies. When the child proves him or herself physically capable, Kisame will start training with them on how to wield/control samehada, as well as fight with a variety of swords. It goes without saying that Itachi will be in Kisame’s kid’s life from the day they’re born, and be their favorite “uncle”.
instead of what i wanted to write, i wrote "ItaSaku but it's Sasuke's POV"
non-massacre AU so Sasuke is slightly less of an asshole and Itachi is running around terrorizing Konoha ninja but like in a "he's on our side" way. ~800 words
Being the younger brother of Uchiha Itachi, in Sasuke’s opinion, wasn’t nearly as bad as he’d thought it would be. Itachi was an obsessive control freak who turned his attention on Sasuke more than Sasuke wanted, sure, but that came with the security that Itachi did in fact love him very much, under all his Itachi-ness. There had been a few years where Sasuke had thought he was going to drown in all the comparisons to his brother, but he’d spent his teenage years very determinedly carving his own path as a shinobi. No one compared your technique to Itachi’s Great Fireball Jutsu if your technique was stabbing that person with an electrified sword.
No, nowadays when people wanted to talk to Sasuke about Itachi, more often than not…
“WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOUR BROTHER?!”
...it went like that.
Sasuke didn’t question how Sakura found him. He was a creature of habit, and this was his favorite training ground for his off-days.
Sakura turned on her heel and furiously kicked at the tree Sasuke wasn’t sitting under, and its trunk exploded into splinters. Sasuke shifted to guard his bento from the rain of wood chips and leaf debris that flew into the air as the tree fell over with a deafening crack. Couldn’t Sakura have waited until after his lunch break to do this?
Chest heaving with fury, Sakura picked up a boulder and tossed it at the remains of the tree. Sasuke watched dully as she ripped up the training ground, screaming at him about how his brother was an asshole between acts of destruction.
Sasuke had certainly watched someone have a meltdown about Itachi’s more… eccentric qualities before, and he’d seen Sakura get so pissed about something she took it out on a training ground. Or a client’s house. Or Naruto. Or Kakashi or even occasionally Sasuke.
He’d never seen the merger of these two events, though. He hadn’t known Sakura and Itachi knew each other.
When Sakura had calmed down and Sasuke had finished his bento, he stood and stretched lazily. Sakura stood in front of him, panting and sweaty and with an impressive tick in her eye.
“What’d he do now?” Sasuke asked.
“He’s been drafting me for his fucking ANBU team,” Sakura hissed.
Ah… yes, that would do it. Sasuke had run exactly two missions under Itachi’s command, and they still haunted him. Itachi pushed his teams harder than anyone Sasuke had even heard of, and he didn’t take feedback well. He didn’t even take feedback from his own cute little brother. He didn’t even take feedback on how much soy sauce should go into dinner. I know how I like it, Itachi would say, and then make the worst food known to man.
(Fortunately for his ANBU team, he was almost always right about ninja stuff. It was just infuriating that his awful methods were so effective.)
The threat of having Itachi as a captain was one of the major reasons Sasuke lost interest in joining ANBU himself. As a rank-and-file jounin, he was highly unlikely to get drafted into ANBU.
Medics, on the other hand, were constantly getting drafted into ANBU. They were important for mission completion and their presence made general survivorship of a team skyrocket. Not to mention accomplished combat medics were hard to come by.
“Well…” Sasuke said slowly, “you are one of the best.”
He’d hoped that would help Sakura calm down. Usually she’d preen when he complimented her skills. Instead, she gives him an absolutely acidic look.
“Yeah?” she says, her voice like poisoned honey. “So if you were my captain, Sasuke-kun, do you think you’d listen to me? Don’t you think you’d listen the the medical advice of the top medic you went out of your way to draft--”
The ground cracks under Sakura’s feet as she starts ranting again, pacing in a tight circle in front of Sasuke. Even through her anger, she’s careful not to slip any details that might clue Sasuke into the nature of the missions they’re doing, but he gets the gist.
Itachi is an unstoppable force. Sakura is an immovable object. Really, it was no wonder they clashed.
Well, Sasuke certainly doesn’t want to get involved. Especially when he has to live with one of the parties. Still, he doesn’t exactly like seeing Sakura upset…
“Do you want to spar?” he asks. He’s not really good with comforting words, but he is excellent at helping people work their feelings out with violence.
Sakura absolutely destroys the already partially decimated training ground, and Sasuke’s going to have to find a new one until maintenance patches it up.
Sakura seems happier, with her hair all in a wild pink haystack and blood running from her temple. She heals the cut to her face with a few blinks and an extraordinary display of chakra control, all while forlornly poking a finger through one of several singed holes in her shirt, courtesy of Sasuke. She’s bright-eyed and chatty while she fixes up Sasuke’s cracked rib.
It does not last long.
