Hazel wants a sick fic! *wracks brain and rummages through Tumblr archive of own experience and takes some creative liberties*
The clock struck two in the afternoon as the healer patted you on your shoulder. "All done," she said, "best hurry home now." You quickly thanked her and your lucky stars that you got the booster shot at last. Untying the reins of your horse outside the tent, you hopped on and set off to your little cottage in the forest at a comfortable trot.
Your mind was running through the list of things you would have to do before the shot would take effect. Would it give you a headache? Fever and chills? You shuddered - and hoped that was only at the dislike of having a temperature and not actually from getting a cold.
"Just a little further," you thought. You'd have to make enough food to last you through the weekend. Soup would be best since it is easy to digest and heat up. Mushroom soup. Did you have ingredients? What if you got bored of mushroom soup halfway through your convalescence? Might as well make chicken soup too. Can't be too careful when living alone.
You noticed a little ache in your arm when you dismounted and returned your faithful horse to its shed beside your cottage. "Not yet." Your arm which seemed perfectly fine before now seemed to weigh three times more than usual. Nevertheless, you grit your teeth and made up your mind to prepare for whatever happens next.
As a woman living alone in the woods, no one really bothered you since they both feared and respected your talent in making potions. These helped the townspeople but also made them a little wary of you. Not that you minded - you liked the solitude and peace. Still, you turned the key in the lock once you got in the house and made your way to the kitchen.
A frenzy of chopping, boiling and tasting later, you were satisfied with the amount of food you were sure would last you until you got better. Another little while later, you stepped out of the hot shower already feeling sluggish. "Still not yet," you mumbled while you brushed your hair and put on clean pajamas. "Still have to eat... dinner?" You turned towards the clock on the kitchen window and saw that it was now five in the afternoon. "A little early but no one should go to sleep on an empty stomach."
You were fortunately seated at the small table in your kitchen with your hearty spoonful of soup halfway to your mouth when suddenly your head almost fell forward from sleepiness that hit you like a wave. You caught yourself mid-nod and looked around. No one saw that. A pair of robins chirped outside in your vegetable and herb garden. At least, no witnesses that can recount what happened.
After a hasty clean up of the kitchen and yourself, you dove face down on your bed and snuggled one of the fluffy pillows that were your main luxury. "I'm sorry I cannot stay up anymore, Diluc, my love. I'd love some cuddles, though," was your last thought before passing out cold.
Unbeknownst to you, a certain redhead was looking at you with a puzzled expression just beyond the corridor, his head titled in confusion. Didn't you hear him call out when he used his key to enter your home? You, who were usually so alert to his footsteps and able to uncannily predict and open the front door just as he was about to knock, weren't there to greet him? Instead you were bestowing a sleepy smile to a... pillow that suspiciously had some dark fluffy fur decor on it?
The tall man just shook his head and set down the basket he brought with him on the kitchen table. "What am I going to do with you?" he whispered as he tugged the blanket from underneath you to make sure that it actually performed its duty to keep you warm as you slept. He then made himself comfortable on the armchair beside your bed, leaning back with a raised eyebrow as he watched you snuggle the fuzzy pillow.
He had to do a double take and glance at his shoulders before sighing and softly chuckled.
You woke up the next morning at seven from the sunlight entering your window. Stretching and then wincing a little upon remembering your sore arm, you thought you saw a tall shadow moving in your kitchen. You squint your eyes to see better, not even remembering that you went to sleep alone through the fog in your brain, when the familiar figure drew nearer.
"Did you have a good rest, Hazel?"
"Diluc!" You groggily giggled as he placed a tray on your lap before dropping a kiss on your forehead. The pastries from Mondstadt smelled heavenly and paired perfectly with a cup of hot cocoa, but the comforting scent of him was best of all.
"Eat up before you fall asleep again," he warned. "Seems like you got the most unusual side effect from the booster shot," he explained as he propped a cushion behind your back, using a little more energy than needed at the pillow that was most recently in your embrace.
You chatted a little and offered half of your breakfast to him - to which he only agreed since you would not stop waving a cinnamon roll in front of his blushing face.
You laughed - and you didn't see the relief in his shoulders when he heard that sweet assurance that you were physically fine, if not a little woozy.
You snuggled back in bed and grabbed at the wrist of this sleeve as he rose to check on something. "Diluc, will you stay?"
You didn't see the tenderness in his eyes as you stifled a yawn. "For you, Hazel, anything."
Thinking back a few days later, you didn't have much recollection of that lost weekend as you slipped in and out of consciousness, only waking up enough to eat and finding the love of your life tending to your every need. You would easily fall back to sleep again holding his hand, his soothing voice washing over you as he read from your favorite book and lulled you into the dreamless rest of recovery.
