Forgot to post yesterday, so have a double post! Subclasseptember days 10 and 11: Wizard and Warlock!
The wizard school was actually suggested by my partner, who wanted a wizard who tried avoiding fights altogether.
The parasite patron was an idea I had for a while, basically, in the same way a paladin can become an oathbreaker, what happens if a Warlock is abandoned by its patron? Well it gets infested by astral parasites, of course!

As the ship's movement slows, the distant cannons continue to fire and shatter the masts above the young mage. He turns to the captain for approval, and upon seeing his nod the sea itself begins to move the ship forward, commanded like a sailor itself by the power of arcana.
I really have loved the idea of ocean based wizards, and recently had a few NPC mages appear on a ship in my campaign that I DM, so I figured I would design a subclass that they could have reasonably been if they had statblocks! The updating link to Homebrewery is here, while the static PDF of the above image can be found here. Enjoy and let me know what you would like to see next!

As we come to the next subclass in my quest to put image IDs in the descriptions, we must ask ourselves... why did I format this subclass like this?

I really want Ashton to level up their Intelligence next ASI. He's really earned it; they're keeping up with Milo on arcane weirdness and explaining the leyline problems to them and I am LIVING for it. It's phenomenal. Really out here brute-forcing his way into being one of the clever ones in the party, I'm so proud.

Unorthodox Arcana - The School of Alternative Necromancy
by Nines, v0.1
Does this need a content filter? It might need a content filter.
Despite what other schools might say, the classification of spells has little bearing on their function. One necromancer might make use of magic to channel spirits and animate the dead. Another necromancer uses the same magic to animate the living.
One of a series of alternative wizard schools, viewing their magics through a new lens.
I was actually hoping to have the Monsters and Myths setting book ready for Halloween, but that plan didn't end up panning out.
In the meantime, enjoy this sneak peak at a future series.
Happy (belated) Halloween.

Subclasseptember 2023, Day 18 - Weavebreaker Wizard
"FUCK you!" *casts Super-Counterspell*
This one's a pretty particular niche, the idea of an anti-wizard Wizard. It kind of ended up being a sidegrade to the War Magic Wizard, in a way.

the last line of this post got me thinking about dnd-ifying tortall (i know about the tortall rpg but here im thinking specifically about dungeons and dragons 5e)
Kel is certainly a paladin. Aly is a rogue no question. Daine is probably a wildshape druid with some sort of archery feat/outlander background.
Alanna is giving me trouble, though. She's both a fighter and a mage, and very adept at both. I guess in order, her fighting improvement happens before spellcasting improvement. It's feeling very cleric, but that's certainly not the type of character Alanna is. The descriptions of her magic, though, are pretty close to sorcerer, but that doesn't seem right either.
Any ideas?

Paradox Pack: Subclasses
The Paradox Pack is a pack of three subclasses that subvert expectations! If you've ever wanted to play a paladin with an evil past, a wizard who skipped all that school nonsense, or a warlock who draws their power not from an otherworldly being but a powerful ruler, then you can find all three on my Patreon.

I really should just make a ‘Corrupted’ Druid subclass. Have the ability to Wildshape into aberrations (but not beasts) get some fun Necromancy Circle Spells (Inflict Wounds is the only one coming to mind at the moment), free cast of Blight per day.
I want a Druid that’s connection to nature has been twisted so slowly and subtly they don’t even realize it’s happened until it’s too late.

School of White Necromancy | Just because you're a necromancer, doesn't mean you want an army of the dead!
Tumblr media
PDFs of this and more can be found over on at my Patreon here! My Kickstarter is live! Support it and get rad new lycanthropes!
It's time for my theme subversion post. And today it's a necromancy wizard without the whole undead thing. Not an original concept, but I can't say I found the implementations ran into while researching this concept compelling. So I made my own. This did end up similar to my old school of medicine wizard I did a bit ago, but I guess without cure wounds.
Necromancy Savant
My version of the school savant, as explored in my enchantment revision, but necromancy this time.
Necrocratic Oath
The third feature (even though it's listed second) seems fair since it's a buff and debuff. Since this subclass opposes undead specifically, it doesn't make sense for it to be able to use animate dead, create undead, finger of death, etc… But you do get to at least raise the dead and you still get to specialise in the school's damage type while fighting undead too.
Turn Undead
As per the cleric. It's expensive spell level cost for the recharge on a 2nd level feature is because a) you also get it back on a short rest and b) it's functionally the fear spell.
Disrupt the Undying
A variation of controlling the undead which was admittedly the necromancy capstone, but this is just damage ala 1D&D destroy undead or frenzying controlled undead, with the idea that the undead just destroy each other.
Bolster the Living
This just seemed like the thesis statement of the subclass, reversing evil necromancy to aid the living. Only as useful as the strength of the necrotic damage, but this will definitely turn a fight around.
Death to Life
As will just resurrecting someone for free, but it does require the person to actually die. Fun for the whole family!
And now to plug my stuff. I release homebrews weekly over on my Patreon. Anyone who pledges $1 or more per post don't have to wait a month to see them, and also help fund my being alive habit.
At the moment, they have exclusive access to the following:
Calls of the Grave
Otherworldly Patron: The Absolute
Martial Archetype: Knight of the Fallen Oak
Words of Power
I also have three classes, and a splatbook over on DriveThrueRPG to check out:
The Rift Binder. A class specialising in summoning monsters and controlling the battlefield.
The Witch Knight. A class that combines swords and sorcery in the most literal way.
The Werebeast. A class that turns you into a half beast to destroy your foes.
d'Artagnan's Adventurer Almanac. A compendium of races, subclasses, feats, spells, monsters and more!

One of my first homebrews, Onomancy, Revised allows for wizards to embrace the power of names without just getting to run around with people’s true names. Plus it lets a player give someone the name ‘buttbutt’ and then curse them with it. Good times

Cleric of Lathander, god of dawn and renewal?
I always make him pick up the Amulet. Behind Shadowheart he's got one of the highest Wisdom stats of all of the companions. He'll be fine, right? Plus love seeing him laugh and smile more.
*He's actually a Cleric of Corellon Larethian in my game since Astarion still wants to dabble in necromancy. I'm not sure Lathander would approve of a vampire spawn for a worshipper as he doesn't care for the undead or undead raising more undead for that matter. :p

Rogue subclasses are pretty simple and fun to make. One thing that I like about rogues is that they can be very versatile and unique from one another. They are more specialists than anything, and they don't have to be thieves or criminals.
This subclass if for a bounty hunter like character archetype, and adds a new weapon/damage mechanic: traps, which can do a variety of damage as well as status effects once activated. Additionally, the bounty hunter gets proficiency with nets and heavy crossbows.
