Xingshen's hand shakily grabbed at the doorframe as she willed her aching legs to move. Her sharp teeth were clenched as she forced left to go before right. Star couldn't stay here, it wasn't safe. A thump from around the corner made her pause, holding her breath as she flattened herself against the wall. Slowly, after counting out ten breaths, she peeked around the corner into th darkness of the living room. Nothing that she could see, but then again, stars eyesight was always worse in dim lighting.

It was why they kept the lights low.

After twenty more breaths, Xingshen gritted stars teeth. One...two...three...keep it quiet, keep steady...four...five...six...

Just a few more paces to the door...

Seven...eight...

A small creak. The floorboards. She paused, heart pounding, stars hand desperately outstretched for the doorknob. Thirty more breaths. No one there, must be the old apartment settling.

Against her better judgement, star goes for it. She takes the first few steps forward in a dash but wobbles, falling to the floor with a loud BANG! The lights turn on, flooding her vision. She winces and softly gasps, too in pain to scream as she shuts her eyes.

"Xixi? What're you doin' out here, you're supposed to be in bed!"

Xingshen doesn't have to open her eyes to recognize the teasingly disappointed tones. Star feels Wukong lifting her up.

"That was a nasty fall there. You're such a goof!" he chuckles, rubbing his cheek against hers. "What were you doing out here? Ohhh I know! You missed us, didn't you~? Awww, Xixi, we told you we'd be right here if you needed us!"

And speaking of the other half, a woosh told Xingshen that Macaque had arrived. The lack of brightness against her eyelids told her he had mercifully extinguished the lights.

"Jeez, Xingshen, you're so clingy. We just put you to bed an hour ago! Then again, I guess I can't blame ya."

Xingshen felt Macaque ruffle her hair. If it were anyone else star would've bitten their hand off, but she learned what happened if star retaliated. She felt herself being carried back to her bed, placed now on a body-sized ice pack. In spite of starself, Xingshen let out a relieved sigh as stars joints began to be soothed.

"Maybe we oughta get her a walker, or a cane. Or a wheelchair." "Nahhh, what does Xi need that for when she's got us? It's like we promised: she won't have to lift a finger while we're here! And since she missed us so much..." Xingshen felt Macaque and Wukong hop on the bed, crawling under the covers and snuggling close so she's pressed between the both of them, their soft fur a pleasing texture.

Wukong stroked her back with his claws. "Now this time, stay asleep. You know what the doctor said, you need your rest. Next time you get up before nap time's over we'll do more than cuddles." He kissed the top of stars head.

Xingshen sighed internally. She'd have to wait a few days to make another bid for freedom. In the meanwhile, all she could do was sink into a hazy sleep as the coolness of the ice pack washed over her body.

Hey tumblr, I’m a heteroflexible trans man. Since coming out I’ve really noticed how little representation straight trans men get in the media. I’ve always known that trans people are some of the least represented people in the LGBT community, especially trans men, but since I’ve started looking for representation that represents me I’ve maybe found two things that cover the two bases (trans guy that likes women). Don’t get me wrong I still love to see representation for trans women and nonbinary people (nimona is probably my favorite movie of all time 87 million/10) but it makes me feel misrepresented when every trans guy I see in the media is gay.

Added some extra answers cuz I’m wondering how many trans people are actually straight. If youre bisexual please select whatever feels right to you whether that’s what you’re primarily attracted or who you primarily date.

A bundle of clean linens are nestled in your arms, prepared to do the day’s turndown of the bed. You are running behind today. Since the arrival of Prince Daemon and Princess Rhaenyra, along with all of their children, you seemed to be late to do everything. The Dragonstone visitors had more than doubled your workload.

You push your way through the heavy wooden doors, sending a silent prayer to the Mother that Queen Alicent would not be present to scold you for your tardiness. However, it is another sound entirely that fills your ears upon entering the bedchamber.

The lilt of soft moans and giggles causes you to pause, not daring to trust what you are hearing until the cadence begins to increase. The right thing to do in that moment would be to turn and walk back down the staircase that carried you here, however, curiosity propels you forward until the Queen’s four poster bed is in view.

Through the gaps in the gauzy material that hangs suspended from the wooden bedframe, you can make out two writhing, naked bodies. Alicent lays flat on her back, her pretty face contorted in pleasure as a silver haired woman lays with her head buried between her thighs.

Alicent’s eyes fly open, wide with horror, as you gasp at the sight before you. You realise it is Rhaenyra that she is coupling with, as she turns to face you, and you stand frozen in shock for perhaps a little too long. Your eyes rake over the supple curves of their bodies, the way the sweat glistens on their flesh, highlighting the subtle pink flush of their skin.

You force yourself to look away, uttering a string of rambled apologies as you turn and flee from the room, still clutching the bedclothes tightly to your chest.

You don’t tell a soul what you have witnessed, all too aware of the implications it would have. Instead, you keep your head down and focus on your work around the Keep. The image of what you saw earlier that morning refuses to leave your mind, however, and you are perplexed by the feeling of warmth that spreads between your legs whenever you think about it.

It is the witching hour and you are about to prepare for sleep when Alicent’s lady’s maid informs you that the Queen has requested your presence in her quarters, at once. Fear gnaws at your insides as you make your way to the other side of the castle. You’ve no real reason to feel afraid of her, she has never been unkind to you, yet you have never walked in on anything quite so scandalous before. You do not know what to expect.

When you are beckoned inside upon knocking at the door, you are startled to see Rhaenyra before you. She stands in a thin cotton shift, her long pale hair loose around her shoulders and her hands clasped in front of her.

She cocks her head to the side, the faintest trace of a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “Did you have fun spying earlier?”

“I didn’t tell anyone, I swear!” You protest, panic bubbling in your chest, causing your heart to hammer wildly against your ribcage.

“Oh, kēlītsos, I know you didn’t.” She steps towards you, gripping your chin between her thumb and forefinger. “But that’s not what I asked, is it?” Kitten.

You gaze wide-eyed at her, not quite knowing what the High Valyrian word she just spoke to you means, beyond the fact that the sound of it makes you clench around nothing. “I-I wasn’t spying.” You stammer, wetting your lips with your tongue.

Rhaenyra’s eyes flicker downwards to your mouth and then back up again. “But you liked it.”

She smirks when your only response is a pitiful whine. “Don’t think your behaviour won’t go unpunished.”

“Oh, ‘Nyra! Don’t be so cruel to the poor girl.”

Your head whips around to where Alicent is reclining on the bed. The sheer fabric of her nightgown leaves the outline of her nakedness just about visible in the candlelight. Your eyes dart between the Queen and the Princess, unsure of what to make of the situation that’s playing out before you.

Rhaenyra releases your chin, taking your hand and guiding you towards the bed, gesturing for you to sit. You perch on the edge and immediately Alicent moves to place delicate hands upon your shoulders, sweeping your hair away from your neck.

“You don’t think she deserves to be punished for her prying eyes?” Rhaenyra asks offhandedly, dexterous fingers pulling at the laces that hold the front of your dress together.

“No.” Comes Alicent’s response, pressing a featherlight kiss to your neck that causes you to shiver. “She ought to be rewarded for her silence.”

“Would you like that, kēlītsos? A reward?” Rhaenyra asks, a hint of subtle mocking in her tone.

You have no idea what that could possibly mean, but if it serves to prolong the heady feeling of anticipation that’s steadily building inside of you, you will more than gladly accept. Fervently you nod your head.

Rhaenyra pushes you to lay back and you let out a squeal as she pushes up your skirts, dragging your small clothes down your legs.

“Shhh…it’s okay.” Alicent coos, laying beside you and stroking your hair.

You stare into her soft brown eyes, taking comfort in the mixture of kindness and desire you see reflected back at you.

A sharp stinging sensation between your legs causes you to cry out, as Rhaenyra delivers a slap to your slick folds. “Stop making a fuss. Alicent may be a soft touch, but I’m not. Ungrateful little brat.”

You whimper, the pain quickly subsiding to a pleasurable aching sensation.

Alicent leans in, capturing your lips with her own and kisses you tenderly. “You’ll be good for us now, won’t you?”

“Y-yes.” You whisper.

“Good girl.”

She kisses you again and you mewl into it as you feel the flat of Rhaenyra’s tongue work itself against you, once, twice, three times, before the tip comes to bully at your pearl.

“You’re doing so well for us.” Alicent soothes, working a hand inside your loosened bodice to pinch gently at your nipples.

You arch your back, the sensation of it combined with Rhaenyra’s tongue lapping at you causes an irresistible tightening in your lower belly.

You fist the sheets as you feel Rhaenyra push a finger inside of you, a lewd moan escaping your throat.

“Shut her up.” She snaps, looking up from between your thighs, before crooking her finger to push and pull against a spot deep inside of you that makes your legs tremble.

“You mustn’t be so loud.” Alicent tells you. “Here.”

She pulls down the neckline of her nightdress, revealing the plush swell of her breasts to you and guides your head towards them.

Greedily you suckle a pebbled peak into your mouth, reveling in how Alicent threads her fingers into your hair, sighing in satisfaction.

You feel yourself beginning to tighten, Alicent’s insistent tugging at your roots and Rhaenyra’s tongue and fingers expertly working at your core serve to push you closer and closer to the edge. With a final flick of the Princess’ tongue against your bud with a well timed thrust of her finger, you fall apart, tightening and spasming uncontrollably in the throes of ecstasy.

You pull away from Alicent, desperate for the release of being able to cry out, but she is quick to capture your lips with her own, muffling your sounds with heated kisses.

Once you’re calmed, Rhaenyra lifts herself away from you, wiping at her mouth and chin with the back of her hand, as Alicent cradles your head against her chest.

“You taste divine, kēlītsos.” Rhaenyra purrs. “Would you like to taste us too?”

“Yes.” You croak out weakly, mind too hazy with bliss to fully comprehend what you are being asked.

“Good.” She says, crawling to lay at the other side of you. “Keep this to yourself and we shall give you the opportunity to do just that.”

luz has such a strange characterization among fandom spaces to me, in which everyone will say and acknowledge out loud that she's canon bi as a front but then turn around and subtly (or maybe not so) treat her functionally as a lesbian, especially with their rhetoric about "shipping her with men", and it's the weirdest form of bi erasure so far, because they're not actually erasing her sexuality thanks to a disclaimer but they also kind of are with their policing.

of course, there DOES exist people who will straight up say she is or should have been a lesbian, but i'm not talking about that separate group of people, especially since they usually get enough deserved backlash ─ however, i'm sure the one this post is about wishes they could be so confident, without a doubt.

there's also an unspoken "rules for thee but not for me" attitude in which lunter is bad because luz is in a relationship already, but then proceed to depict willuz (and amillow) romantically. that reads more indirectly like it's them who fail to take committed WLW couples seriously than those infamously stereotyped bisexuals who prefer a WLM/MLW pairing, but... okay sure!!! the only possible explanation for the hypocrisy here other than "it's bad because i personally don't like it" (a typical anti argument in any given discourse btw) is "you're lesbophobic for shipping a bi character with a gender they are, in fact, attracted to because i want said character to be a lesbian instead and you're ruining that illusion." in any case, they're both obviously some stupidly wrong takes that should always be laughed at out of the room.

"Do I Have A Crush?" Quizzes as an Aromantic

In a previous post I had mentioned that I love taking "do I have a crush?" quizzes as an Aromantic. What I didn't share in that post was all of my findings from taking basically every quiz on that topic I could find. This is gonna be a bit of a long one, but I hope it will be an enlightening one!

Being an aro and taking these quizzes is pretty interesting. Because I do get plushes, which for me share some qualities with crushes, but are a completely different experience as a whole. For lack of a better equivalent, I have used my plushes while taking these quizzes. This will become relevant later on.

Anyway, here are my findings:

1. The target demographic for these quizzes is teenage girls. Well, the majority of online quizzes are intended for teenage girls. But these ones are especially designed for teenage girls. It's often painfully obvious by the way they are written, the answers available, and the scenarios provided. About crushes specifically though, this makes sense. Most people have their first crush during their teenage years. So the next logical step is to be curious about these new feelings and take an online quiz to figure out what's going on. Why only girls, though? Hard to say. It could be because they assume boys generally feel more confident in their romantic interest and thus would have no need for such a thing. Worth noting it was very hard to find a TRULY gender inclusive quiz. There's tons of wlm and wlw, but almost nothing for mlw or mlm. And if you're nonbinary or your crush is nonbinary, good fucking luck. The vast majority of them rely on some sort of gender stereotype. So many of these are clearly written from the perspective that you are a cishet woman interested in a cishet man. In multiple quizzes I have actually found typos where instead of using they/them, they accidentally use he/him in one question, almost like it had been up for a few years, then someone edited it later and missed one. A freudian slip if I ever saw one.

2. Practically all of them assume you are currently attending high school I understand that this is the time when most people get their first crush... but there are people who only crush on celebrities and fictional characters until they are an adult. This is not an extremely uncommon occurrence. So as you can imagine, there are a lot of questions that ask about how you interact with this person at school. Usually the addition of "or at work" feels like an afterthought. Some quizzes I've come across don't even consider that an adult might be taking the quiz. Like the question just openly states that you are at school.

3. They frequently assume that your crush is NOT someone in your friend group. This is probably the most interesting one to me personally. Because I myself cannot get a plush on someone until I've known them as a friend for at least three months. And I know plenty of non-aro people that need to get to know someone as a friend before developing romantic feelings. It's just... such an oddly specific assumption, y'know? They don't even consider that maybe this person is already in your friend group (unless you are talking specifically "do I have a crush on my best friend" quizzes). They just doesn't consider that the way you feel about someone can change over time. It's love at first sight or you will never feel that way about that person, I guess. (I think this is more teenager shenanigans. Because "am I about to enter a relationship with an abusive guy" doesn't appear to be the concern. Just that both or either friend group might not approve...?)

4. They generally assume your crush is a stranger or someone you do not know very well. Related to the previous one, this one is kind of weird to me. I understand the concept of love at first sight, but these are "do I have a crush" quizzes, not "is this love at first sight" quizzes. Almost every quiz I took had a least one question that assumed you had fallen in love with someone you have never spoken to. And often for answers on other questions instead of including an "I'm on the fence for how I feel about this person" option in the answers, which would be pretty logical to include, they have an option that says "N/A because I don't actually know them." However, the "do I have a crush on my best friend" quizzes are an exception to this. Instead they often assume you are spending every single free moment of time you have with this person.

5. If you have a crush on your best friend, you have either terribly misinterpreted you feelings and theirs, or they will never feel the same way about you. Um, yeah... I guess some people just can't tell the difference between romantic attraction and just being really good friends. But an important note: I think in some cases there's definitely outside pressure saying that two people "should" be in a romantic relationship simply because they are close platonically. Making those people question how they feel. Hence the existence of these quizzes. I can definitely feel that pressure while taking them.

6. They assume that your friends are all a certain type of person and your relationship with them is very specific. So here's the common assumptions I found across most quizzes:

Your friends are the type of people that are very invested in the love lives of everyone in that friend group. (And also outside of your friend group...)

Your friends are the type of people that will tease you about your romantic interests instead of being supportive.

You talk frequently about your love interests, love life, or lack there of with your friends. (Before you say "What? Everyone does that!" Not everyone does that.)

You are the only person questioning your feelings, everyone else is certain you have a crush.

Thankfully a teenage friend has informed me that this is 100% a teenager behaviour that happens all the time. Although I have seen cases where women under the age of 25 can also do this. I would go into detail about each of those but I think how these are not good assumptions to make is pretty self explanatory. You don't know me, you don't know what my friends are like, stop saying your experiences are universal. I will say blindly trusting the quiz taker's friends is not as reliable of a choice as it sounds. Sometimes people will just call any fond feelings for someone, platonic or not, a crush. And they sometimes will insist that person has a crush even if they say that they do not have a crush and simply want to be friends. And after awhile it can get to your head and feel like the only opinion that matters.

7. They assume this person is someone who you know/you regularly see in real life. In every quiz I took they asked at least one question that I could not answer because the plush I was using for all of these is someone I only know online. Specifically, it was some variant of "how often do you stare at them?" I understand this is a defining part of having a crush for most people, but I was rarely even given the option to say that this person and I are not regularly in the same room. Okay, let's say a teen girl gets a crush on a boy on from another school during like a sports game. She cannot answer this particular question truthfully either because imagining how often you'd stare at someone you met once if you were regularly in the same room with accuracy is not easy.

8. They assume you have the biggest crush, as anything less could lead to negative results from the quiz. Because I do not experience the same feelings, sometimes answering these questions truthfully is very difficult because my options are usually like this:

Q. If your crush asked you to hang out, how would you react?

OMG YES YES YES!!!

Well, we hang out all the time (as friends) so this is just a normal Tuesday for us.

I haven't even introduced myself to this person so they literally cannot ask me to hang out.

I'd make an excuse to not go.

And none of this is even close to how I feel about my plush. Or even about my friends. I cannot answer this question with 100% honesty. Legitimately, I've felt like I've gotten "you don't have a crush" results for the simple reason that I am not head over heals for my plush. Often it was either "every thought in my mind is of them" or "they're alright, I guess." But you can see how only the first option, with the most intense feelings, suggests that you have a crush. The other three options are either completely neutral feelings or suggest dislike. And since that's what people are taking this quiz to figure out, almost everyone is going to pick the first option. It might as well be just "would you hang out with your crush if they asked you, yes or no?"

So these quizzes are built on the assumption that you do, in fact, have a crush. You just want those feelings validated.

"Okay that's great Snowy, but what results did you get from these quizzes as an aromantic?"

Well, I didn't write down exact numbers since there were so many quizzes I took over about an eight month period. Some of them I took multiple times months apart and got different results. But I'd say about 60% said I had a crush, or was likely to have a crush. And 40% said I did not, or it wasn't likely to be a crush.

The funny part?

When I took some of those I didn't have a plush on anyone at the time. I was just using how I felt platonically about a close friend as the "crush." And while this did sway the results, it was not by much. Turning it more into a 50/50 chance.

No plush, no sexual attraction, they are JUST my friend. And yet, the results screen tells me I am deeply in love with them about half of the time.

When I said they assume you do have a crush, I really meant it.

Finally, I have actually made my own "do I have a crush" quiz that hopefully avoids doing everything I just talked about. No assumptions about the person you may have feelings for, no assumptions about your friends, no assumptions about you, who you are, or why you are taking it in the first place.

No literally I think that any adaptation where she’s dating a man it’s odd.

I just can’t see her with a man.

She and Shaggy have a best friend pact where if they can’t find a partner by the time they’re like 40 they’ll both get married.

She definitely had a crush on Daphne at some point (or still does in some versions). I’m versions where they don’t meet until they’re teens she misjudged Daphne and thought she was one of those spoilt and rude rich girls but once she gets to know her and becomes her friend she likes her and then develops feelings it’s a gradual thing. In versions where they met as kids the crush happens quicker because Velma knew her true side sooner.

Velma finds stereotypes absolutely ridiculous. She acts the way she likes.

She was definitely in a relationship with Marcie (Hot Dog Water) in Mystery Incorporated. Rivals to lovers stuff.

I think the whole gang are Queer tbh. Velma is a lesbian, Shaggy is gay, Daphne is Bisexual but maybe with a small preference towards men and Fred is Pansexual.

The first people she came out to was the gang. They were super supportive and I 100% believe that because Fred is a himbo he bought her a bunch of pride stuff. She thinks it’s sweet though because even if it’s a bit excessive it’s coming from a good place and it shows that he supports her.

She and Shaggy are mlm/wlm solidarity.

Can I ask how do you deal with hurtful comments on your fanfics from someone you consider a friend? Like I know if some stranger send hurtful comments it felt bad but damn when someone you know said the same thing it felt worse. Early this year I was kicked out and blocked from an animanga lover group when they find out that I wrote mlm fanfics from major shounen series (naruto,bnha, aot, jjk). This what they said :

“I'm convinced you must have never had friends before because all of these relationships are perfect depictions of what PLATONIC friendship is. If you want a gay story support ACTUAL gay couples like in BL & GL manga. Do you know how frustrating it is to see people move mountains for a non canon ship that’ll never happen then ignore actual gay manga’s and anime’s in BL & GL anime/manga...."

What do you think? Even until now, I'm still feeling a bit guilty for liking non canon mlm and wlw ships from shounen series. But when I found your blog and read your posts, I felt way better. Especially that answer of yours to anon who asked is it weird to love mlm& wlw more than wlm. Thanks for sharing your hard work (analysis, fanfics, arts, reviews).

Sorry for my rants and for my weird feelings.....

Ohhhh this is so precious please don't apologize for sending me this ask, I love feelings and hearing about other peoples' experiences with them and how my art/accounts have somehow been relatable because of that.

The peer pressure in fandoms is absolutely insane and convinces me that the social aspect works the same as any high school full of bullies. There WILL be mean girls, there WILL be cliques, and if you're a creator like me, you're going to be a MAGNET for like ten different types of them.

As for how I deal with hurtful comments, I was raised in an environment that constantly shamed me. I was controlled from all sides on what I could draw, write, and consume, so I'm used to being shunned by those who "love" me because of what I'm interested in! Because of this, the hate comments were what I EXPECTED going in and the positive comments were actually the things that threw me for loops. Hurtful comments only had the power to nag at me when I didn't have an audience (or friends) to bounce them off of so they wouldn't keep popping up as a "do I actually do this, though?" "am I actually bad for this?". But now they don't bother me; they give me the chance to either make a troll reply or spice up my friends' group chat for the day.

As far as a FRIEND leaving a hurtful comment??? I have so much sympathy for you. I am SO sorry they treated you that way.

When I make friends, I tell them openly what I do and to what extent. This way, I gather the type of people I want and push away those who don't. If they think it's not okay, they're silly.

Those friends who kicked you out of their little club? SILLY. They think they're so pure and moral for gatekeeping what can and can't be done with creativity and passion. They won't ever know what it feels like to live as freely as you do. In the end, their opinion is an opinion that is largely not shared by the logical, rational public. Any professional in the art/film/writing industry can tell you that much. How else are we supposed to make stories? Have a little IMAGINATION!! DAMN!

I'm saying a lot of this because it's the best thing to tell yourself when you read things that are clearly meant to make you feel shame when you haven't done a single thing wrong. Since this is Tumblr and I can ramble to my heart's content, maybe it'll help you if I also point out the specific tools that have been used in that message they sent you. Sometimes a good breakdown of tactics is all it takes to remind yourself you're not in the wrong.

"I'm convinced you must have never had friends before" AKA "you're so ignorant" - invalidating your experiences to crumble any foundation you might've had to stand on if you wanted to argue back. Starting off with this helps them cut you down so your self-esteem is lowered.

"these relationships are perfect depictions of what PLATONIC friendship is" - their opinion is being stated here as a fact, as if the entire world agrees with them and there's no other way to see it. First of all, this means NOTHING to the shipping world, since it exists largely to turn friendships into romances. Idk what they wanted to do with that one.

"If you want a gay story support ACTUAL gay couples like in BL & GL manga" - I'm not sure what kind of burn that is. SUPPORT ACTUAL GAY COUPLES LIKE THE REST OF US!! Okay snuffledumpkins. Guess nobody taught them how to MULTITASK!!! GUESS WHAT? I CAN SUPPORT ACTUAL GAY COUPLES *AND* NON-CANON GAY COUPLES, FREAK! WHAT NOW, HUH??? Being serious though, this is an attempt to define for YOU what ''''''true gay couples'''''' are (ACCORDING TO THEM), when this is an entirely fluid meaning and can be applied to whomever you'd like in fiction. This is THE PURPOSE OF FANFICTION.

So you could probably find a few posts of me talking about some of my more modern and neo/xeno identity labels, its something I'm fairly proud of I'm a neo pronoun user and have been out as a nonbinary man for a long time

But I don't think I talk about my more, I guess classical and older queer labels and that feels disingenuous because I do still love queer history and have a lot of what would be considered ""outdated"" identieies

Yeah I'm a neo user and have some xeno gender labels, and I'm T4T which as far as I know is a label thats been around a long time but its still common and normally used today

But im also just a gender nonconformist(sometimes i use and reclaim the words transexual and transvestite just to piss off cis people who say i cant), i unapolgetically reclaim the word f4g, im in the leather community, I'm a fem man, im a cub, all things that have been around maybe since the 60s - 70s that I/still/ find connection to, comfort and community in

I mean hell I usually consider myself to currently be in a masc 4 fem relationship which you'd probably never guess by just looking at me

Which is another thing! Why is it always assumed that cubs and bears are the mascs?? I think I have more traditionally feminine clothing and presentation then most of my twink friends, I am a big, fat, extroverted, hairy cub and I am still the fem in one of my relationships and very feminine and fem presenting in general

Obviously masc 4 fem is not the only kind of mlm and wlm relationship that's stupid sndnd and expecting it is heteronormative, some people are masc 4 masc,fem 4 fem, heck not everyone /likes/ traditional masc fem labels and that's awesome!

Another thing I don't see a lot of people talk about is the fact that the bear and cub community is objectively a body positivity movement, that's what it started as that's what it always will be

Bear culture was a reaction to the beauty standards of gay culture at the time, when the ideal in gay relationships were young, thin, conventionally attractive gay and bi/multisexual men

Bear culture was specifically made to appreciate, lift up, and love large, hairy,sometimes older gay and bi/multsexual men and cub culture branched off from bears

I'm gonna be honest, I am recovering from a few body image issues and disorders that I wont go in depth on, and bear + cub culture has helped me to love myself and my body and find myself attractive more than any other body positivity space! Not to say other body positvity spaces arent important and needed, but that as a queer trans man this one has been the space I felt the most welcomed in

I wish there were a few expectations we could leave behind, like the idea that bears and cubs only date other bears and cubs, that terms like bear, twink, otter, leather gay, ect are gay exclusive and not just mlm and nwlnw terms, that fem and masc culture are gay and lesbian exclusive (dont come at me there are several moments in history we see these terms used by bi and generally queer men and that show masc and fem culture in bi and generally queer spaces)

I wish I could find more people like me in history, trans men who weren't masc, transmen and transmascs that were unapologetically feminine, I want to find transman queens in history, trans gay and mlm men, it's hard to find.. but I'm almost positive there has to be at least some people like me in queer history

But in general there's so much we can learn and keep from older queer culture that I feel has been lost a lot with younger generations

I love modern queer culture and neo/xeno labels and communities ans MOGAI and the breakdown of gender norms and sexual expectations

But im also unapolgetically a fem, leather loving, kinkster, trans fucking, fat cub, cross dressing faggot

All of these things are me

You cannot untangle or separate these identieies and labels from /me/

There are riots and loss in my history, and there is raw, unapolgetic queer beauty as well. there is pride in my veins, and fight in my lungs, and I wouldn't trade any of it for shit

Welcome to the twenty-first official Cadybear's Reviews! Today I'll be talking about Baby Bump, which I have ranked on the "Gold Tier" at 8 stars out of a possible 10.

WHY DO PEOPLE HATE THIS SERIES!? WHY!? It’s FINE!

Okay, I can maybe see why people may not like it because, let’s be real, accidental pregnancy is a very overdone trope. And apparently there were a lot of parts that were originally problematic when the story was released and had to be re-written, but I wasn’t around for that and I know next to nothing about the original lines, so I can’t say much about them. But even now, how does it get ranked as being among the worst so often? Even if you think it’s bad, it’s really not that bad.

Like… I found it decent? I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as a lot of people have said it is. And I’m saying this as a GNC cis woman who experiences major genital dysphoria and absolutely REVILES the idea of becoming pregnant. Like, I would rather die than ever experience being pregnant. And yet I still quite enjoyed this story.

I guess it kind of helps that the book is very clearly a pregnancy book from the beginning, so I kind of went in knowing what to expect and thus not self-inserting as the MC at all. Unlike something like TRH, which is a continuation that suddenly introduces a “MC gets pregnant” plot to a non-pregnancy series… but that’s a subject for a different day.

I’ll be honest though, this story has a pretty awful start. In the flashback in B1 Ch1 where MC meets Mr. Covington, they try waaaayyyyy too hard to make the player swoon at the idea of having his babies. Like, did the guy they wanted to be MC’s baby daddy HAVE to be a celebrity company salesman, who is also the keynote speaker at MC’s graduation?

And don’t even get me started on the Clint fangirls, who feel like they were written by someone who’s only ever been surrounded by the “Facebook Mom” stereotype and has never met (and probably never will meet) a real horny woman in their entire life.

Literally, the scene is just all like “OMG LOOK!!! BIG FAMOUS CELEBRITY SALESMAN!!! OMG HE HAS *GASP* ABS!!! OH WOW, A MALE LI IN CHOICES WITH ABS AND BIG MUSCLES! THAT’S SO UNIQUE AND SPECIAL AND TOTALLY NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!!! OMG ALL THE OTHER WOMEN ARE CHANTING OVER HIS ABS AND WANT TO HAVE HIS BABIES TOO!!! DON’T *YOU* WANT TO HAVE HIS BABIES TOO!?!?!?! AREN’T YOU SOOOOOO LUCKY THAT YOU’RE GOING TO BE HAVING HIS BABIES?!?!?!?!?!?!?”. Like, how much intelligence do you think your wlm audience has PB? Really trying to pander to the “Facebook Karen Mom” stereotype here, huh?

With that in mind, I guess I can understand why people may have gotten a bad impression of the book at first, because the story for how MC got pregnant in the first place (and her conflict with Cassandra in Book 1) feels straight out of one of those weird Instagram and Facebook ads.

But besides that, it was an okay series! I found it mostly cute and wholesome. Literally everything else was fine! There were even a few moments in Book 2 that made me cry, like when MC can record a sweet message for the babies with a plush bunny she can get from the Baby Baskets.

Besides maybe Book 1 Dr. Mariana Castillo who is just way too unserious (at least she gets better in Book 2), I honestly really liked the main cast. Even though MC is technically an outsider to the town, she still gets to be very driven and gets shit done rather than being the typical doe-eyed newbie who needs to be shown the ropes. Clint is a sweetheart and does get to be more than just “har dee har muscular celebrity salesman who knocks you up aren’t you soooo lucky” that they wanted him to be in the first chapter. Mayor Dixon is a nice mix of goofy and tsundere, and the female version Myra contributed to my bi awakening. Luisa is just a queen all around. MC’s sister… initially she could sometimes be a bit of a stereotypical “OMG girly girl talk best friend to talk exclusively about LI and diamond outfits” but she does become more than that too, and I really like her subplot with Bao. Speaking of, Bao is just the most absolute precious ever (and shame on PB for making him the sister’s LI and not one for MC /jk).

The antagonist characters were… kind of a mixed bag, I will admit. They were memorable, but also kind of stupid. Like I said before, Cassandra’s storyline in Book 1 just felt petty and cheap, plus I’m tired of straw loser villain female antagonists who exist solely to compete with the MC over the LI. It never got too overbearing, but it was still stupid. Book 2 Cassandra is great though.

Then there’s Craig, who wants to destroy everything MC and friends accomplish and take over Gracetown because… potatoes. I guess he’s alright as he is actually a threat in Book 2, but the townspeople can be pretty damn meek to him which is a little weird. But he was still a strong antagonist in that book. Book 1 Craig feels a lot more like he just exists to be an annoyance for the sake of being an annoyance, though.

Jebediah is a lot more compelling as an antagonist character, and I did expect the Covington family conflict to be incredibly boring but it turned out otherwise. He’s a jerk at first, but it’s nice to see how he does genuinely try to change throughout the storyline of Book 2.

Also, props to this for being one of only three Choices series ever (the others being OG HSS and ILITW) where the collectible system has some items that aren’t diamond-walled. The baby blanket collectibles are really cute, and it’s really refreshing to have a collectible system that isn’t “the first one is free and then the rest you have to pay for”. Like HSS, there are even some pieces that are determinant on your success in certain events. Why can’t more series do their collectibles like this??? (Oh right, because it requires actual effort).

Would I say it’s a good or accurate portrayal of pregnancy? IDK, I’m not an expert. But it’s fine if you just want a lighthearted pregnancy story to chill out to.

Venting under the cut (It’s about the IO fandom, but nobody is involved, it is all in my head)

I… Feel so severely unwelcomed by all of the anxienn fans. Like, they all having fun with the common headcanons, and then… There’s me. A stupid one with the stupid wlw concept. And I can’t think that anxienn is a wlm ship. It’s like… I just… I can’t see it as such. It makes me feel really bad. And I’m really mad at myself because… Maybe I’M the one who’s wrong? That many people cannot make mistakes. That’s me who made it. That’s why nobody loves me. That’s why I have no friends. I know that my view on this ship is an absolute shit, okay? And my fanchild isn’t as good as I thought. I’m sure that not a single anxienn fan would like my little dumb drawings, because they’re all wrong.

I give up.

Before the wounds, Xingshen was more of a mediator between Wukong and Macaque, mostly trying to keep Macaque from stirring shit up

Macaque was the first shot with the gun, his obsession being for only Wukong initially

Xingshen tried to keep Macaque away, but with her disabilities there was only so much she could do

The two would be found and Xingshen would be beaten while trying to fight off Macaque

Macaque however had a secret wepaon: He had kept the love gun

It was easy: All he had to do was shoot Wukong so he'd be equally as obsessed with Macaque as he was for him!

Except once the shot was fired...Wukong's obsession was Xingshen

It had been a gradual crush he'd been intending to get rid of, but he found it difficult to do so. The only other person Wukong ever loved was the Tang Priest, and the priest wasn't there anymore. But Xingshen was.

There was almost an all-out brawl between the two if Xingshen did not intervene by pretending star was more severely injured than star was, pleading that they stop fighting at least long enough for star to be given help

Seeing as Wukong would be devastated if anything happened to star, Macaque relented

This began the captivity, wherein Xingshen could not leave stars apartment without Wukong and Macaque both keeping a close eye on star

While caring for her alongside his obsessed darling, Macaque decided that if this was the closest he was going to get, then that was fine by him. He didn't want to kill Wukong (anymore), but he would certainly have to if he tried to kill Xingshen

And who knows? Maybe he could learn just what was so interesting about the mermaid princess- what she had that he didn't

What are your thoughts on genderbending characters, particularly in regards to Umineko?

It's one of my favorite tropes, but I know that a lot of people don't feel comfortable with it, whether they find it disrepectful to the lgbtq+ communities or some other reason. Likewise, though, if not done with care in regards to a character's personality and circumstances, the opposite - making an au where a character (who isn't canonically, or it isn't known) is transgender - can be equally offensive.

Considering the matter of a person's physical sex, the interpretation of gender in Umineko, I'm curious how you would perceive it - especially since both 'tropes' can be used in tandem - and 1) I really really liked the way you portrayed Jessie and Yukari's situation in the story carries on' and 2) the fem Black Battler fic. Poor Battler, but Still. It was good!

I figured if anyone knew how to handle the matter tactfully, and in respect to the characters personality's and the situation, and the topic of being transgender vs outright genderbending, it would be you.

With genderbending I feel like it depends on context, what you want to do with it, and what you do with it. (Also I'm glad you liked those fics!)

In a lot of WTC works, characters have interesting relationships with gender (and sometimes sexuality) that can make genderbending more complicated. For example, genderbending Jessica to be a guy can be interesting. She feels pressured to get a boyfriend, but also feels like the reason why she doesn't have one is because she's too tomboyish and abrasive. She also has to deal with her mother wanting her to be a proper lady and find a nice (read: wealthy and powerful) husband for her. If Jessica was a man, 'he' may have more similar experiences to George - the looming prospect of an arranged marriage, the expectation to be the family Head rather than to marry man to be the Head, etc. His attitude may be construed as general laziness or lack of interest rather than tomboyish behavior. If someone is just drawing art of what they think a genderbent Jessica would look like, they don't need to delve into these aspects, but if someone wanted to write about Jessica, they'd need to consider these things.

This also becomes more complicated when you want to do ship content with a genderbend, because how the characters may be different would interact with how they see each other and potentially affect their dynamic. For example, Beatrice/Sayo's attraction to Battler may take on new rich connotations if Battler is a woman and not a man, or if Sayo conceptualized Beatrice as a male sorcerer rather than a female witch.

With regards to genderbends, I really like seeing art of them! And it would be nice to see more writing, too. I think people become worried about them because of how they can be used to erase the queerness of mlm or wlw ships, but I've known friends who like genderswapping their wlw ships to wlm from time to time. In the end I think we can't toss the trope out in general, or even when it's a mlm/wlw -> wlm swap, because sometimes people just want to explore things. Something being wlm can mean that they're still queer - bisexual, pan, etc. - but maybe in a different way.

...People also probably remember the "what if the story was all the same except this character was a GIRL" stories that had a lot of self-insert action, stereotypes, and poor writing from the olden days of fandom. But I think that's a quality and writing issue, not a general genderbend issue.

As for a character being transgender, I think it also needs to be done with care and thought put into it, the same way a genderbend might need. If a character is transgender, how will others feel about it? What sort of medical care will they be able to receive in their setting? Will they be closeted, socially transition, etc.? Depending on the setting, it might not be possible for that character to receive gender-affirming care. It might not even be possible for that character to "pass" as the gender they identify as. And that needs to be considered.

For example, if someone has a trans headcanon for an Umineko character, the character may need to leave Japan to receive surgery (I actually found an interesting paper while googling about this). If they're one of the younger characters, like Battler, one needs to consider if their parents will fund or approve, as they would not be able to access gender-affirming care without them. How would other members of the Ushiromiya family - which is shown to hold to strict gender roles and uphold capitalistic, cissexist, patriarchal ideals - react to someone transitioning?

...More specifically with Umineko is if someone wants to genderbend Sayo or one of their personas. I think that can be a difficult task, because of how complex Sayo's gender is, but I don't think it's impossible or should be disallowed, so long as people are willing to delve into the complexities of what it would mean for any particular genderbend. I'm not entirely sure about the idea of CAFAB Sayo transitioning to masculinity, due to how AFAB Sayo was used to make BeaBato and WillLion as cishet as possible in the past, but I think that so long as such a headcanon is coupled with queer exploration it's fine, albeit a bit touchy for me (perhaps a more subjective worry than objective, though).

For an example of a possible Sayo genderbend, bending Beatrice to be a man could be used to delve into more Sayo-Kinzo parallels, or conceptualize a more masc-leaning, or genderfluid, or nonbinary depiction of Sayo.

...In the end it's just about doing what you like, not minimizing the queer aspects as a result, and exploring what would happen if a character was a different gender all along or was transgender. It's about putting the work in to make me believe in you and your respect for the cast.
