Very simple Whiteout design. This...is far from how I usually draw. Not really my style. But I wanted to try something new. The design may be a little crooked and of poor quality (so...better click for better quality) because it was originally a small silhouette that was not intended to be a full-fledged design. But we have what we have. I wanted to make my Whiteout design more unique..? That's why I made her more icewing. I've made a few more designs so I'll post them later.

you don't have to read this if you don't want to, i just wanted to write down some thoughts about this project

i started this blog three years ago at the beginning of the pandemic, after making a few sketches of human versions of wings of fire characters in a sketchbook. even though i wasn't an avid wof reader anymore, the idea stuck with me and i kept working on it and building it. i wasn't great at drawing humans in the beginning, and my character design skills were seriously lackluster. but i'm better at it now, and i believe this blog is one of the primary reasons for that.

drawing all of these characters, characters of so many ages and occupations and roles and personalities, really drove me to diversify my skills and work on making each one unique, memorable, and (more or less) accurate to the book version. i would constantly push myself to nail down the perfect sketch, the perfect face, the best design i could possibly do at the time - and i learned so much for it! through doing this project i have seriously learned so much, and i've improved greatly at character design

however, i think i've started to tire of it. i've made so many character references in the exact same style, the exact same format, the same sort of tone, and it's becoming sort of restricting. i want to do different, more experimental stuff, but i feel like i'm tethered to this, obligated to finish the list i laid out all that time ago. you guys still have so much you want to see, and i don't want to let you down

why am i writing this? i don't know. i genuinely don't. i don't think i'm quitting, but i don't know if i really feel like proceeding either. i think what i'm trying to say is that i want to take another break haha

thank you guys for the continued engagement and support, you're so wonderful and i'm really glad that my drawings have been able to entertain and even inspire you for this long ⭐

Hey can i just like. Ramble. For a soild minute.

Your art is so cool like. Chefs kiss. Its great. The anatomy and structures are honestly so well built and fluid for whatever youre drawing especially for the "fuck it we ball" mindset (honestly me) and besides that, your wof and general character designs??? Solid. 10/10. I wish the silkwings and hivewings had mandibles like that in canon. Especially the nightwing patterns based on the skies! Its pretty neat :3

And the idea with the leafwings and symbiosis! Like walking gardens! Thats so cool?? Could you imagine what the wof weed breath of evil would do to that? Imagine Hawthorn for example having a basic garden thats actually infected by the plant, to where it perhaps saps energy from the other plants in its reach to gain more control over time? Maybe leafwings could be more affected by the othermind in that sense.

Oh and also! The posts about dieties! Ive got my own project ive been working on for a year or two now and was genuinely shocked to see someone else with the same train of thought? Usually whenever i see diety characters or worlds revolving around them, theyre often tied to our own customs and societal rules, same with the laws of physics, time, space ect. So i was hyped to see another person going against that too! Like with the whole "no gender just vibes" as them being concepts and not exactly outright physical beings. Same with them not quite having a moral compass but rather a "directive compass" where theyre more inclined to just do their own thing if it benefits them rather than in consolation with the opposing entity. As you phrased it, theyre "benevolent by nature"!

I swear like 70% of my liked posts are yours lmao and any time your pfp changes i get caught of guard by it and just go "Hey! Another fan of Eims! Wait a minute. That is Eim"

Anyways, just wanted to say your art is cool and that its inspired me to draw more often and to try experimenting with my designs a bit more! :33

Whenever it comes to gods in general I always felt iffy trying to gender them, like trying to gender a concept just feels wrong. I like having gods be tangible but incomprehensible if that makes sense. They are unbound by the laws of the universe as they are what created it.

Also a piece of lore about the 'concept' thing. Concepts can exist without a god. There are an endless amount of concepts but there's not a god for all of them, typically only 'important' concepts such as life and death have gods of which control and embody it. That being said when gods are created concepts- latch onto them so to speak.

Then there are the primordial gods, more True Deity than True Primordial though, the Abyss and the Radiance of which were concepts that existed for so long that they gained a will and consciousness of kickstarted the existence of the universe as we know it as. One concept, interestingly enough that has yet to have deity attached to it though, is time. :)

Haven’t posted JJ for a hot second, taking a small break from the WoF designs to do a character that only appears in one piece of media ❤️

Redraws of Lab Lady from the comic! I started these in December. I’d like to redraw the whole comic in my style, it’s so silly and would be a nice project during the summer

Design thing I did, I did this then couldn’t draw her or any other person, personal skill issue :( Concepting Lab Lady if she had a lawyer outfit, but most likely just does lawyer stuff in her hazmat suit. Also she would have a gas mask instead of the hazmat mask, scientists gloves corresponds with the kind of masks they wear :)

This is my main oc Emiko Schwartz. (Her eyes are brown in case you’re wondering) She is a Wolf/Human hybrid. (Or a furry, I guess) Her power is that her ears and tail change color to reflect her emotions, and this is her default colors. She used to be orange and yellow, which mean happiness and contentment, however, over the years they have changed to Magenta(Hurt/Anger) and Mint(Envy). Also, beware of when her eyes turn magenta. That means she will turn into a wolf and probably attack!

Hello everyone! Art time, plus a poll :).

I wanted to practice making more complicated WOF designs and accessories on my dragon characters so I came up with an idea.

There’s are actually a bunch of originally non-WOF ocs I’ve been meaning to make a family tree for. But I hit them with the WOF beam so I could combine my two projects.

So I’m gonna do a full design for these guys, hopefully each of them… because that way I can practice my complicated design ideas without having to ever draw the characters again since these guys already have their own story and I will probably never post about them again after this lol. Easier for me that way.

But which ones am I gonna draw first… well I’ll let you decide that. I’m gonna put it to a poll so that way I can actually pressure myself into finishing this higher effort project.

Hello I would just like to tell you I LOVE LOVE LOVE your wof headcanons for the tribe designs bc they are just jabdjdsbshaj ahhhhh

I’ve loved this series since I was in like 5th grade but I always feel like while the tribe designs served the purpose of looking different I feel like they lacked the Flare of looking Different and I feel like your designs just make them all a little more unique

So, with the comic on hiatus while I work on chapter two/sacrifice my will to live apartment hunting, I figured now was a great time to give a heartfelt shoutout to everyone who’s read and enjoyed it so far!

Like I said in my author’s note for 1-17, I check my statistics roughly once a week and I’m consistently blown away—there’s never a day where zero pages are viewed! Every single day, there’s somebody somewhere reading my comic! WHAT!!!

As a little bonus to hold you over until the comic comes back, I thought I’d share a bit of behind-the-scenes trivia about the creation of Sparks Fly.

Strictly speaking, the first character to be created was Eclipse, as I reworked her from my old WoF-sona. The first character created specifically for this project was Aster.

Of everyone I’ve designed so far, Velia has probably been through the most design changes—she’s had about three different designs iirc, and a different name for each one. Her current design is loosely based on a kingfisher.

The prize for the most drastic design change definitely goes to Ember—she was originally green and purple, if you can believe that! I ended up adapting her original color palette for a character you’ll meet in chapter eight (at least, according to my current outline)

I like designing characters based on toys, which is part of the reason for my current dragon shelf dilemma XD

Sparks Fly owes its existence to my childhood love of Wings of Fire, but also to my current love of My Hero Academia! I first had the idea to make SF while I was doing some worldbuilding for a BNHA dragon AU and then realized “Hey, I could use this worldbuilding for an original story”.

Ironically enough, not a lot of that initial worldbuilding survived to the current version XD

I’ve known who Velia’s parents are longer than I’ve known who she herself is—I’m excited to see if you guys can figure out their identities!

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for reading. It truly means the world to me that so many people are excited to see where my story goes, and I hope you all have as much fun reading it as I have in writing it so far!
