Colors can range in shades of dark gray and black
Powers:
Fire
Mind Reading and/or future sight (rare)
Night vision
The Modern Era:
The newest dragon tribes that just recently came to be
Mudwings:
Status: Healthy
Formed from continuous breeding between Seawings and Skywings
Often treated as less by the Phyrrian dragons because of how recently the tribe was formed
Colors can range in shades of browns and greens
Powers:
Can hold breath for long periods of time
Can be healed by mud
Can breathe fire if warm enough
Hivewings:
Status: Healthy
Evolved mostly from Beetlewings, only with Clearsight’s small genetics mixed in
Was created because of the impact Clearsight left, every dragon wanted to be like her, so any dragon with black scales was deemed a descendant of Clearsight; every dragon with black scales began breeding more than usual, eventually creating Hivewings
Colors range in shades of yellows and blacks
Kept the four sets of wings from Beetlewings
Powers:
Venom and/or stingers in teeth or tails (uncommon)
Silkwings:
Status: Healthy
Formed of what was left of the Beetlewings that didn’t have black on their scales
Have been seen as inferior to Hivewings for a while since they didn’t have any black scales
Flamesilks were originally a rare mutation that grew as the Hivewings began selectively breeding them
Colors range from any color under the sun except black
Powers:
Antennae
Can produce silk from their wrists

Here's some silly little metaphors that I think the dragon tribes would use
SkyWings
“Don’t count your clutch before they hatch.” (Don't plan too much too soon)
“Gold is better than silver, but silver is better than nothing.” (If you can't do it perfectly, still try your best. Most dragons forget the second part.)
“‘Sorry’ can't suck the fire back in.” (The damage is done and now you're dead to me.)
“You been eating too much burnt meat or something?” (Are you nuts?)
“Stop all this smoke and use your fire.” (Stop rambling and get to the point already; or stop complaining and do something)
“Doesn't know his tail from his wings.” (Stupid or clumsy)
“You fly like a depressed pigeon.” (Slow flier)
“There's no fire in a rainstorm.” (Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get to work.)
“Nighttime is for the NightWings.” (What are you doing up? Go to sleep.)
SandWings
“She’s all rattle, and no strike.” (Like all bark no bite)
“A diamond in a pile of quartz.” (Like a needle in a haystack)
“You’re watering the cactus and ignoring the sapling.” (You’re focusing on the wrong thing; barking up the wrong tree)
“Everyone thinks the camel looks silly until the dry season comes.” (Don't listen to them, they don't know how unique and strong you are)
MudWings
“Crocodile tears.” (Fake crying in order to gain sympathy)
“You can only catch a trout if your mouth is open.” (Be open to new experiences)
“If the tree gives away too much, it ends up as a stump.” (Don't let people take advantage of your generosity)
SeaWings
“Happy as a clam in high water.” (Very happy)
“The flying fish feels like a fool when it sees an osprey.” (Don't compare yourself to others, run your own race.)
“Plenty of fish in the sea.” (Plenty more opportunities to come.)
“You’ve got ink in your eyes.” (You're blind to something important)
“Lobsters only die when they don't leave their shell.” (Keep yourself busy with new experiences and you'll life a long life)
NightWings
“Sleep is for the dead.” (Why waste your time sleeping when you could be productive)
“SeaWings know their fish and SandWings know their cactuses, but we NightWings know everything else.”(NightWing supremacy propaganda)
“Being nice to a deer never got one in my mouth.” (Other dragons don't matter, only your goals.)
“A prophecy always comes true.” (I told you so but more cryptic)
"You're counting the stars." (You're doing something tedious towards an unachievable goal)
RainWings
“Gray’s her favorite color.” (She's a huge bummer)
“A lemon is yellow on the outside, doesn't mean they're not sour.” (Referring to someone who is two faced or fake)
“I love honey, but I’d rather not get stung by the bees.” (I could do this, but it requires effort so I don't wanna)
“Nobody likes a rotten banana.” (Nobody likes a bummer/downer)
“Don't tie your tail in a knot” (don't get all upset)
“I have all my berries in a basket” (I have everything sorted out)
“You couldn't sneak up on a pineapple” (insult to one's camouflage skills, popular among children)
IceWings
“The seal who asks why the orca is chasing him is the first to get eaten.” (A favorite of parents telling their kids to shut up)
“Not the sharpest icicle on the roof” (kinda stupid or slow)
“Clear as polished ice” (i understand or see it very well)
“You're looking a little pink in the face” (you look sickly. IceWings can turn pink from eating too much krill; a symptom of malnutrition. This line can be applied to any illness.)
“Blue blood kills, red blood spills.” (Patriotic propaganda implying that IceWings win every fight
“The SkyWings toss their blue eyed hatchlings because they're worried they'll be as strong as an IceWing.” (More propaganda)
HiveWings
“Pretty is for the SilkWings.” (Vanity is stupid and impractical)
“If it buzzes like a bug and bites like a bug, it's a bug.” (Don't ignore the obvious)
“Clearsight works in mysterious ways.” (I don't know the answer to your question, now go away)
SilkWings
“It's not always good to know how the honey gets made.” (Don't stick your snout where it doesn't belong)
“She's got a couple of threads loose.” (Calling someone a little crazy, threads refers to weaving)
“The bee minds its flowers and the spider minds her silk, it's when they mix that bad things happen.” (Mind ya business)
LeafWings
“Flytraps only trap because the soil doesn't feed them.” (Dragons don't get angry out of nowhere)
“Looking like a leaf only hides you in the forest.” (Time and place)
“If a branch doesn't bend, it breaks.” (Be flexible)
“Even the corpse flower attracts the flies.” (Even someone who seems ugly to one dragon they can seem irresistible to another)

IceWing tribe sheet!
Tumblr media
icewings actually happen to be my favorite tribe, they're a little messed up but i love them. enjoy my headcanons!
Physical Appearance + Traits:
-IceWings live in the cold and barren arctic north, and have developed very specific adaptations in order to survive. Rather than being warm-blooded and keeping themselves insulated, they kept their reptillian cold blood and slowly adapted to a consistently cold internal body temperature. As a result, they require no warmth at all for their bodies to function; they do not insulate themselves with fur or fat like mammals do.
-Their scales are pale, usually with a bluish tint although other colors are not unheard of. When well taken care of, they gleam and sparkle like ice.
-They are naturally cold to the touch, giving off a chill to anyone close by. In warm environments, especially humid ones, the cold will sometimes cause moisture from the air to condense on their scales, letting drops of water settle on them and drip from them. This, at first glance, can sometimes look like they’re “melting”, and has made some believe that IceWings are literally made from ice, and they can melt in the heat. (This is another headcanon that didn’t originate with me, it comes from @flamebringer0. If you see this, I adore your headcanon, I hope you don’t mind me including it among with mine!)
-Sharp spikes bristle their necks and run along their spines and tails. This can make it difficult for other tribes to gain the upper hand in fights without being wounded by the spines. They can also use their tail as an effective weapon.
-They can summon a storm of tiny shards and crystals from the ice that tends to coat their throat and produce frostbreath, which can quickly deliver frostbite to any dragons who aren’t well adapted to cold.
-Icewing horns are sometimes straight, resembling icicles, sometimes jagged, and sometimes branch off into something more antler-adjacent. They are always sharp, but just slightly more fragile than other horns.
-Some IceWing scales tend to get a bit darker and more silvery as they age, and likewise they tend to hatch with bright, snowy-white coloration. Some will have speckled patterns and general variability between colors across their bodies.
-Their dark eyes help absorb light and allow them to see past the bright glare of sun on ice.
-Their bodies are long, slender and elegant, especially among royals. Their faces are long and pointed, and they are more agile and maneuverable than most tribes expect. They are generally smaller than SkyWings but taller than MudWings.
-Their serrated claws help grip ice, and make their attacks more punishing. They have a sharp and sturdy point on the end of their snout, which can be used to crack ice without harming them.
-They are not a very physically varied tribe, but the royal and noble IceWings have a look distinct from those on outskirt villages. They often have fewer spines, straighter horns, narrower wings and paler colors, whereas lower-ranking IceWings have more practical antler-like horns, more spines, and a more muscular appearance. (Sketch displaying this below.)
Tumblr media
Life Cycle:
-IceWings are hatched in small clutches of one to three. Parents will carve out a nest in the ice, lay the eggs, and then allow them to freeze over again until the dragonets break through the ice. It is believed that the colder the eggs during incubation, the more powerful the dragonets will become.
-They take around 5 months to develop and are hatched strong enough to free themselves and big enough that most predators aren’t interested in them. They are also hatched with a delicate layer of spines all across their bodies that resemble frost crystals, though these later shed off. Dragonets can also go several days without eating after hatching, which is unusual for dragons.
-Most parents are available to watch their dragonets, so these abilities simply serve as precautions for the case of missing or neglectful parents.
-They grow somewhat slowly, reaching maturity a bit later than other tribes.
-IceWings, especially those of high rank, are expected to be strictly monogamous, and their marriages are usually more of a formality than a real union of affection. They aren’t incapable of love, certainly, but marriage is not treated as an act of love among nobles and royalty. Sometimes even lower-status IceWings marry out of societal expectation and not for their own happiness, but things are generally less strict.
Society + Culture:
-IceWing society is strictly ranked by class and birthright. There are seven divisions, referred to as Circles; the Seventh Circle is made up of dragons of low status, living in small villages on the outskirts of the tribe and scorned by those in higher Circles. The First Circle, meanwhile, is almost entirely comprised of royalty and other dragons of high honor and status. In the palace, dragons are expected to greet and interact with others differently depending on their relative ranking. The system is extremely strict and ruthless, and disrespect is one quick way to be lowered down the ladder. During her reign, Queen Snowfall tore down the wall used to keep track of the placement of each dragon, and made great steps toward lessening this aspect of their culture, but it continued to subtly persist long after her death.
-Lower-circle IceWing society is simple and straightforward. They live in communities quite detached from palace life, hunting for themselves and helping each other raise their dragonets. As all IceWing animus dragons were strategically kept in royalty, most animus gifts did little to improve the lives of those outside the First and Second Circles. The best way for a low-born IceWing to rise in rank would be through military work; otherwise, the groups remain fairly stagnant. Protests and revolts, though, are surprisingly uncommon. Most Sixth and Seventh Circle IceWings are simply too detached from royalty to be concerned with wealth differences, and royals likewise rarely bother to interfere with Sixth and Seventh circle dragons.
-While in the palace, during the worst of the class division, all dragons were commanded to wear necklaces made from a heavy metal that matched their rank. First-Circle necklaces would consist of one ring, Second-Circle necklaces would have two, one inside of the other, and so on. The more circles, the heavier the necklace, and Seventh-Circle dragons, on the rare occasion they visited the palace, would be forced into a constant bow by the weight of the metal.
-IceWings are quite superstitious, not unlike SkyWings. Their beliefs vary by region, but a generally common one is that the deep, impenetrable ice cap they live on harbors some ancient, powerful force, and that if it ever were to break or melt away, that power would be unleashed and cause havoc; they see the ice as a protective field that froze over at the dawn of time, and if it unfroze it would be the end of everything they know.
-IceWings will sometimes wear polar bear fur or the pelts of elk and deer, though not for warmth. Lower-Circle dragons will wear the pelts and sometimes even antlers of their own prey, for bragging rights. Higher-Circle dragons simply wear them as a fashion statement and a show of wealth.
-IceWings are educated much more about their own tribe than others, and generally prefer to stick to their own affairs. They have few exports to trade and little interest in those of others. They are not the most diplomatic tribe.
-After the perceived theft of their last animus, they not only blamed NightWings, but also harbored resentment for every other tribe with animus magic, believing themselves to be the original carrier of the gene and therefore the rightful possessor of it. They are extremely protective of even the least useful of their animus gifts.
Diet: Carnivorous. IceWings eat arctic mammals like elk and polar bears, and aquatic mammals like seals and even sometimes narwhals and orcas. They also eat fish and, rarely, a few species of birds. They have no way to cook food and no desire to. Other than a few types of berries in the mountains near the SkyWing border, no plants grow in the arctic, and IceWings live on meat alone.

WoF Headcanons:
LeafWings' wings and frills change colour depending on the season, they get greener with warmer months and duller/browner with colder months
MudWings often get markings engraved on their tusks or horns, royal ones get them engraved in gold
BigWing MudWings wear gold rings on their horns- one for each of their siblings
HiveWings have their own language similar to SeaWings' Aquatic- which revolves around various flight patterns similar to how bees communicate, usually used as a way for soldiers to get a message across quickly
Some SeaWings live in polar waters near the Ice Kingdom- have thicker scales and blubbery skin similar to whales or seals
SilkWings have long tongues like butterflies- nectar is repurposed as a sweet and rich drink, seen as a delicacy- sometimes alcoholic
SandWings have a third eyelid and thick eyelashes to keep sand out of their eyes
SandWings hold their tails up when threatened or as a warning sign to enemies, giving them a chance to back off
Sky Islands exist because I said so, magic can exist so why can't floating islands, SkyWings don't deserve to just live on mountains
SkyWings can handle much higher altitudes than other tribes, some choose to live on the floating islands- most of which are so high up only SkyWings can reach them
NightWings born under blood moons have red tinted wings
SkyWings have hooked snouts like beaks, as well as feathers because I can
MudWings are incredibly culinarily (???) advanced and see food as a very vital part of their culture. They hold tribe feasts on special events
LeafWings have green blood
LeafWings need sun time as much as RainWings do- they still eat actual food but get most of their energy from the sun
SeaWings are slow fliers, their wings more built for swimming than flying
SkyWings have courtship dances similar to birds
RainWings aren't fit for flying long distances as their wings are built more for gliding through trees than flying
NightWing seers have white diamond shaped markings on the top of their heads, usually resembling a third eye
That's all for now, follow to see me break canon even harder

WoF ages: I had an idea.
What if the tribes age differently? Here’s my two cents:
MudWings start to grow the fastest physically, but mentally, they stay kids the longest, not being fully able to speak until about two. They become adults at about eight or nine.
SeaWings are one of the smaller tribes and stop growing at around six or seven, but they are able to speak aquatic from about three months and are basically fluent in dragon at age one. They are adults, mentally, at age seven.
RainWings are highly intelligent, able to speak at only a few months and mature at about age five. This is because the rainforest is dangerous, so it’s best to be cautious and calm, something that young dragonets can’t really do.
NightWings grow slowly, but continue to grow steadily after their slowdown point, which is about eight. They are able to speak at around one year, and are adults at around nine, mentally.
SandWings grow very slowly, like Sunny, and are not physically mature until about ten. Mentally, they mature at about six.
IceWings learn to speak at about two, and grow swiftly, not quite as swiftly as MudWings though. They mature mentally at about eight.
SkyWings mature physically at around seven, same with mental maturing, and learn to speak at around one year.
I’ll do Pantalan tribes later

ok I can't stop thinking about the jade winglet, here's my gender hcs for all of them
Moonwatcher - she/they (nonbinary)
I feel like this is fun bc rn (in canon) her gender is just "anxiety" but like,,, one day in the future she gets to actually play around with it
like she captures a very specific type of person I've met who you go "oh I mean I know she's gay but she's probably cis..." and then you have like one real convo and find out they're like not only nonbinary but better at it then you
I think she should get to be butch when she's older. I think she deserves being a) massive compared to her two twink boyfriends and b) gnc as shit
Kinkajou- any/all (genderfluid +transfem)
Kinkajou strikes me as being like. totally ambivalent to gender. Kinkajou changes her pronouns based on how the fruit he ate for breakfast makes him feel. Kinkajou is better than you
I think she was like staunchly using she/her for a while bc it just felt right and like changes pronouns situationally- Rainwing village is she/her, Jade Academy is any/all, close friends it varies, etc etc
Qibli- he/they (transmasc)
Qibli's just always kind of known who he is, and has been like. pretty contentedly in his corner for a while. I think it's like- a pillar of stability for him of like "at least I know I'm (x)"
Proximity to Moonwatcher puts the they/them in there bc I think it's nice when ppl get more comfortable so they start branching out a lil bit :> Qibli has like. guy who says "he/they" because he doesn't mind they/them and wants his friends to feel supported y'know
Winter- he/him (cis + gnc)
Look I feel bad making him one of like. two cis ppl at JMA but like I think it's funny if he's cis but inflicts a status effect of gender envy on every trans person in his proximity
guy who does makeup flawlessly because "it's fun" and decimates your sense of identity as you wonder why the fuck god gave these gifts to a man
extra funny for the fact that as a dragonet he gets offended by the implication he's pretty. he gets over it eventually I think
Turtle- she/her or he/she/they (transwoman/trans)
See here. Otherwise I think she's like trans and this could go in like. any fucking direction ngl
transmasc turtle??? hell yeah !!! transfem turtle??? hell yeah !!! gender is whatever Turtle has going on and god knows if she knows it
last egg to crack bc Turtle is immune to self reflection that isn't anxiety and self loathing
"Haha everyone hates how other people refer to them and their gender what do you mean? :)" (entire jade winglet: cringing with worry)
Umber- he/him (cis)
cis and a lil insecure about it but like. he's just nice :)
he's like experimented with pronouns and gender and found none of them really stuck so like. cis+. cis (extended dlc). you know what I mean I hope
gonna be honest I'm lost for him bc I genuinely forget he was there bc he peaced out so fast. justice for my boy I want to know more !!!!!
I could be persuaded for transman Umber ngl,,, it tempts me,,,,,,
Peril- she/her (trans woman)
On one hand I'm torn bc I think it almost doesn't make sense for her backstory BUT ON THE OTHER HAND the idea of Scarlet being supportive of Peril's identity and LITERALLY NOTHING ELSE is hysterical to me
though actually if we wanna get sad,,,, that 100% could be a manipulation tactic of Scarlet. "see I love you I even accept you" etc etc. now I just feel bad man
Peril's also in the same camp of Qibli of knowing this abt herself since she could think and being happy in it. She knows what she's about
BONUS:
Carnelian- she/they/he (transmasc)
Look butch can be a gender and sometimes you're a mean butch skywing idk what to tell you
wish she stayed alive bc her and Moon could've been legendary together. girl who will kill for you vs girl who desperately wants you to do anything else please we talked about this you can't solve your problems with murder
I think Carnelian's true gender is Skywing Patriot and idk how to put that in hc form but this is as best I've got

All royal families have indentifying features or markings - it's said that it's a result of an IceWing gift, seeing as how ex-royals don't pass down the traits of royalty. My headcanons for what these look like and the animus enchantment that caused it.
"I hereby enchant all royal dragons to be identifiable by unique, noble characteristics based on the tribe, and for that trait to be passed down only through the most direct royal line possible."
SeaWings, obviously, have glowing spirals and talonprints on their wings as a mark of royalty. I like to think their glowing scales also form spirals or talonprints, and as such spirals are seen as noble and powerful symbolism.
NightWing royalty has different silver scales to normal placement - typically seen as three dots under the eye, crescent shaped silver scales, etc, but the one common theme is a moon-like cluster on the wings.
MudWings are known to flaunt their golden scales, comparing whos are biggest and most plentiful, but the royal ones have metallic copper or bronze scales - harder to notice but much more dazzling.
LeafWing royalty are known for their wings - while most LeafWings have smooth, arching wings shaped like flower leaves or petals, royal LeafWings have serrated wings, resembling maple leaves.
IceWing royals have opalescent scales, but unlike the nobles surrounding them, they can clearly be seen like bands of the aurora in the light.
SkyWing royalty is odd in having a complete extra color - they tend to be pinkish red and have purple markings, often seen as a racing stripe, husky overcoat pattern, or jasper-like bands.
SandWing royals are interesting - it seems like royalty is tied magically to the Eye of Onyx. Royal SandWings are known for having a cobra-esk frill, often pattrrned with eye markings.
Royal HiveWings are incredibly interesting in that they have an extra, albeit small pair of forelegs that don't reach the ground.
The SilkWing royalty is unique in having a trailing wing membrane that makes the wing resemble those of luna moths or swallowtail butterflies.
Lastly, royal RainWings have two pairs of venom fangs, and are rumored to have a much deadlier venom.

Translation: "Don`t close your mouth".
Seeing pics of remoras cleaning sharks` teeth I thought it would be interesting if one of seawings` resting activity was laying or sitting on the seabed, letting fish do their job (I know they have toothpaste but listen, this is more vibing).
Also those teeth...

Revisited my Queen Moorhen design!! Was feeling inspired after doing Gill (I don't think I'm gonna give every headshot design I've done a fullbody, buuuut I'm thinking about a few 👀).
I combined jewelry from her canon and popular fanon designs! Because I really like all of these looks. I don't think she's the type to wear a ton of jewelry/impractical accessories.
I've seen a lot of headcanons about MudWing sibs painting each other's wings, so I also worked that into my design! I think it would be kind of cool if MudWing sibs had some kind of emblem or family crest and maybe depicted it on their wings. I gave Moorhen roots because I thought it'd be fitting for her position as a queen (she keeps her tribe rooted... or helps them flourish... or something... idk symbolism). Will I keep this HC going in my MudWing designs? Uhhh... 🤷
With Battlewinner frozen over, I HC that Moorhen is now the largest modern Pyrrhian queen. So I made her veeeery beefy. (My queen height HCs go something like Battlewinner > Sequoia > Moorhen > Glacier > Wasp > Coral > Jewel > Ruby > Thorn > Scarlet > Snowfall > Glory btw.)

Wings of fire headcanon:
The Icewing Plague from Darkstalker caused the afflicted icewings’ extremities to slowly darken. Starting with the tails and the wings, a dark indigo would begin to show up on the wing and tail tips, and the hue would only grow and darken over time, until the icewing died.
Metaphorically, it represented two different things: a muddying of the Icewings’ view of themselves as “pure” and “perfect,” as well as an almost insidious feeling of becoming what they hated most: a Nightwing.

WoF beauty and hygiene related tribe headcanons :)
Obv the beauty standards are different in every tribe and different tribes have different things they do to alter and/or maintain their appearance
Dragons occasionally like to paint their scales or nails using a product they call scale polish, and they make a little design on their scales. They don't normally do all of their scales at once because that's really expensive and looks horrible when it starts to rub off, but I could see a very high class Jewel Hive HiveWing trying to make a statement lol
Dragons also sometimes etch patterns into their horns. Many of them also sand and buff them, keeping them smooth and shiny. Uncommonly, dragons will paint them.
Since SandWings started wearing black eye makeup for sun glare reasons, they've started to experiment with styles. They also paint black patterns on their body scales, or get tattoos.
Dragons, especially IceWings, sometimes wear neckties on special occasions or to their jobs.
Salons are mentioned in the series but not elaborated on. A salon may offer such services as scale buffing, polishing, and painting professionally, as well as horn maintenance, body and ear piercings, etc.
As well as SandWings, SkyWings also sometimes get tattoos. Feathers are a popular tattoo symbol for SkyWings, they also like to get a lot of edgy skulls n stuff
SeaWings are culturally very worried about the health and beauty of their scales and they need them to constantly be smooth and sleek and most importantly, moist. If they spend a lot of time on land their scales dry out and they need Products. They probably use coconut oil. They also would likely emphasize the importance of fat in the diet because of their need to maintain a layer of blubber for underwater
NightWings really like a dragon w glasses I don't know what it is they just go nuts lol
IceWings have been talked about in canon as constantly maintaining the shimmeriness of their scales so yeah
They also occasionally paint their spikies and they also like to wear furs
RainWings just try to be the brightest they can, but sometimes wear flowers and feathers for additional pretty.

SkyWing tribe sheet!
Tumblr media
my computer always fucks up colors in export for some reason and its really obvious with these guys :( i promise they're more saturated my computer just sucks
anyway i really liked doing these guys, skywings are fun and i think they have a lot of potential. enjoy!
Physical Appearance + Traits:
-SkyWings, as their name suggests, are dragons made for the wind and sky. They are better fliers than any other tribe, with enormous wings and several birdlike features. Some can fly for more than a day without landing, and even when they aren’t flying they make their homes at the peaks of mountains, with the entire world beneath them.
-They are quite large, taller than any other tribe, with long necks, long tails, and regal figures. They don’t have any obviously deadly weapons, but they have no clear weaknesses either; they are generally successful dragons.
-Their coloration consists of almost entirely warm colors, specifically red and orange. Yellows and golds are sometimes seen too, and more uncommonly, purples and browns. Their colors are bold and striking; they are one of the few Pyrrhian tribes that has no need for camouflage.
-Young dragonets are hatched with a coating of feathers, particularly on their wings, necks and tails. Most dragons simply shed their feathers as they grow; some, though, carry a few into adulthood, usually lining their wings or making a thin ruff around their necks. These feathers are often even brighter than their scales.
-SkyWing horns are a mark of pride, and they continue to grow for as long as they live, meaning some of the oldest SkyWings have horns that resemble enormous and heavy antlers. Sometimes their horns are decorated with wires strung with jewels.
-SkyWing fire is the hottest and most powerful fire any tribe can produce. At its hottest it scorches through bone, and it can be used with accuracy from a long distance. It is their main weapon in combat, and quite a devastating one if their opponents don’t know how to properly fight it. They also use it for a number of other things, though. (More on this in the “society and culture” section.)
-Their wings are stronger than those of most tribes, allowing them to temporarily use them for balance rather than their front legs. This lets them hold and work on things more easily. (This headcanon belongs to @sidyashchiy-na-plakhe!! i saw your post and really liked it, hope you dont mind me adopting it)
-Not dissimilar to SandWings, they have darker streaks near their eyes to help with the glare of the sun when they’re flying, often facing the horizon directly.
Life Cycle:
-SkyWings are hatched in clutches between one and five, although four and five are a bit less common than one through three. SkyWing parents are not involved much with their dragonets. By tradition, they lay eggs in nests high in the mountain peaks, and return occasionally with food once they hatch. The rare unlucky SkyWing newborn may be snatched up by a large bird, but they’re big enough that it isn’t usually an issue. They are also hatched with disproportionately massive wings, big enough to make the fall less likely to be lethal if they fall before they learn to fly.
-Once the dragonets are large enough, though, or once they get hungry enough to search for their own food, they will leave the nest, often simply jumping out and letting the wind carry them, learning to properly fly quite quickly. Once parents notice that the nest is empty, they simply stop bringing food. They will never know who their dragonets are, but SkyWing superstition says all dragonets will eventually make their way to the kingdom, where they will be made a part of the tribe. And, truthfully, they almost always do.
-This practice, which some tribes find strange or even barbaric, is seen by Skywings as an important part of their life and tradition. Each of them took the same journey, and so did the generation before them, so they have faith that it will continue to work out well. It’s in their nature to leave their nest and find the kingdom, and it doesn’t result in enough casualties for them to try to halt the tradition. The only dragons this practice does not apply to is the royal family, for the sake of tracking bloodlines.
-By the time they are entered into the wider kingdom, dragonets usually know how to hunt and avoid danger, so all tribe life offers them is the ability to meet other dragons and find work. There isn’t much of an education system in place, with the exception of mentorships for some careers, such as metalworking, and military training. If they take part in work for the kingdom, they’ll have societal benefits and a secure place in the tribe, and most end up in that position eventually. But there are always a few SkyWings who simply live on the outskirts, uninterested in the larger tribe.
-They don’t form many close relationships, being fairly solitary dragons as soon as they leave their siblings. They do not very often form genuine romantic relationships, but marriage is fairly common simply as a formality or political maneuver. Royals in particular almost always get married, though they don’t usually form natural bonds with their spouses. The only responsibilities parents have is bringing food to their nest until the dragonets abandon it.
Culture and Society:
-SkyWings are proud and solitary; these things combined have given them a reputation of being rude, aloof and uncharismatic. They are powerful fighters and fliers, but their strength is not in diplomacy. Their kingdom norms, though, which allow every dragon to simply utilize for the tribe whatever talents they may have, at their own leisure and for whatever profit might be available to them, suits them well and has made for an uncomplicated but successful society. (This is excluding a few periods such as the reign of Queen Scarlet, who reshaped the tribe into something more dictatorial.)
-They are generally quite matriarchal; every tribe has a queen, but SkyWings tend to have a more overall unbalanced system. Females are a bit larger than males and are usually in higher positions of command.
-Fire is extremely important to SkyWing culture - it produces light, warmth, and without it they would be much less deadly in combat. It has its place in almost every tradition and is used in almost every career path.
-They are the most superstitious tribe in some ways, their lives dictated heavily by tradition and spirituality. The way dragonets are raised is one example; there are countless others, including funeral rites that involve burning, gladiator fights performed for glory, a general belief of night marking bad luck, and others.
-Continuing on this note, SkyWings - though most would never admit it aloud - are almost universally afraid of the dark. The caves and caverns in which they live are always warm and well-lit, via torches lit by their own fire, and they are almost exclusively out by day. They worship the sun and daytime, believing it to chase away the shadows in its glory. NightWings, for similar reasons, tend to be unnerving to them.
-And to elaborate on gladiator fights: The arena near the palace was originally constructed for SkyWings to prove their prowess by fighting other SkyWings and completing various challenges. During these fights they would wear a special set of ceremonial armor, which they could then keep if they succeeded. (Scarlet, of course, transformed this arena into a convenient way to execute prisoners, and later Queen Ruby reinvented it completely by erecting a hospital where it had once stood.)
-In general, SkyWings are one of the only tribes to wear armor, and the only tribe that has used it for entire armies during war. A particular emphasis is placed on wing armor that allows for comfortable flight while still protecting the wing membranes, as a flightless SkyWing is considered as good as dead by its tribe.
-Jewelry almost always involves precious stones, particularly rubies, diamonds and citrine. It’s very common to have these jewels embedded in scales; some royals have done this with such excess that they appear to have crystals growing out of them.
Diet: Carnivorous. They eat birds, mountain goats, deer, and occasionally fish, rodents or whatever else they can catch. Sometimes raw, sometimes scorched. They don’t typically make full and elaborate meals like other tribes; the only common seasoning they use is salt. Other than the rare use of herbs for flavoring, they eat no plants at all.

From the journals of the late Prince Absolver:
I can now say with utmost certainty that a firescales's inner blaze gives their scales that blistering brightness. Witnessing Jailbirds physical degradation over the ten years of having her is more than enough proof that the inner blaze is linked to not only appearance but general health and wellbeing: The worse the dragons health and wellbeing is, the weaker their temperature. (And the duller their appearance, and so forth) To corroborate above points refer to smelting records and compare the melting times of ten tons of iron from 4562 PS to 4572 PS. She no longer even turns to look at me
The current location of this firescales is unknown

part 2 of giving the hive ladies identities: now with more EVIL
Lady Bloodworm- She is widely considered to be the worst hive ruler of all time, possibly worse than Wasp herself. Bloodworm is a menace to society and to the citizens of her own hive. Her hive has the infamous one-per-family rule where each family must sacrifice a member to work on Bloodworm’s pet projects around the hive. She was chosen to be a hive ruler because of her brutality and subsequent usefulness in the war. Like her namesake, she has copper grills that make her breath reek of blood.
Lady Mantis II- As the newest member of the hive rulers, Lady Mantis the Second has a lot of bright ideas about how to improve her hive. Unluckily for her, these 'bright ideas' may be rebellious enough to get her killed one day. The fate of this young leader will be determined in how well she can disguise her hive improvement plans as as routine maintenance… if she succeeds, maybe Mantis Hive will be the first hive to have city-wide running water, and other such pipe dreams.
Lady Cicada- Because of her relation to her sister (Queen Wasp) Cicada had first choice when choosing herself a hive. She chose a location as far away from the Queen as she could. She dislikes Wasp's regime if only because if means more responsibility for her. She used to be able to get away with hoarding art, lounging around, and generally making the royal family disappointed with her, but now she has to like... do stuff. Like finances. And infrastructure. Boring stuff. Stuff that she usually offloads onto a random intern or assistant, leading to a very eclectic hive.
