Another reason to have more women not just in the workplace but in the leadership roles in the workplace
Tumblr media
If you want a fairer pay packet, you have a better chance of getting it with a female manager, according to new research.
When given the task of deciding how much to compensate employees for a set task, male managers chose to keep more for themselves than their female counterparts, according to the findings of researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
“Various studies observe that women make more selfless and moral decisions than men,” political economy researcher and the report’s author, Nora Szech, said on Thursday. “However, we were shocked at how drastic the discrepancy was here.”
The study found that both male and female managers took advantage of opportunities to enrich themselves by paying lower wages, when circumstances allowed this. But women were in general less likely “to be selfish” than men and generally awarded about 13% more than managers on average, the research showed.
“Male managers react stronger to incentives schemes than females. Female managers exhibit a more consistent behavior which seems to be more robust to the opportunity to be selfish,” the study found.
The findings come as European countries tighten quotas for diversity in the boardroom, with the region’s largest economies all introducing some form of mandate to ensure women get at least a third of directorships. The policies target not only inequality within companies, but are intended to boost performance.

Definitely had one of those "being a woman in medical leadership" moments yesterday where I was called out for being too direct and aggressive for writing a pretty dispassionate email where I essentially said I wasn't going to cover for mistakes that my leadership made. Cherry on top was that this feedback was from a woman, who didn't have the balls to deliver it to me directly and instead had another woman serve as the go-between, because she felt like she was called out by me.
So I spent all of therapy today just ranting about my leadership and the lack of support that I feel from them and how I can't actually trust those people or be open with them about my feelings at work. That was a swift kick to the gut yesterday.
But I'm sure if I was a man I would have been told that I was being assertive and practicing good leadership skills.

Something that I absolutely *should* have seen coming - but didn't because I'm a goomba - is that becoming a woman supervisor in a massively male dominated work environment meant the young women will start coming to me with frankly shocking stories. I'm so glad I can provide that safe space in management they've needed, which I never had (second woman supervisor in 9 years, that women stepped down shortly after promoting; there are 13 other supervisors). I fought tooth and nail for this promotion for me, but I didn't realize until the first "hey can I talk to you about something?" today that it's accidentally going to be about way more than me. I am the only supervisor most of them have ever had that looks like them. Talk about stumbling your way into a responsibility. It's very sobering.

Secrets Of Six Figure Women: Up Your Earnings and Change Your Life By Barbara Stanny
Although, most women remain underpaid and make 50% to 80% of what men make, more and more women are earning high salaries. Women who underearn, operate below their potential, have negative beliefs about money, work more for less pay without making the “conscious choice to live with less”. The reality is that underearning affects your self-confidence, breaks down your lifestyle and limit your…

Software Engineer Dairies: Sprint Kick-off 🏃‍♀️👩‍💻
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stand-up 🙌
I was actually social this morning 🦋☺️ (it was standard "how was everybody's weekend?" fare but it got me invited to book club which i'm really excited about because we're reading Howl's Moving Castle!! 📚)
I have to take over more work from a senior colleague who's behind with his own work, which is fine(?) since I know what to do and my help is being acknowledged by leadership at least and I finished all of my existing work already... Should I slow down on purpose so this doesn't keep happening? 😂
Retrospectives 👀
These meetings always feel like getting a bad grade (sometimes good, but more often bad) 🥺 I know it's important to evaluate and improve and that it's not just on me but the whole team... Everyone else seems to be in a good, relaxed mood and taking things in stride, though... so I'll try to take these less personally in the future, too!
Planning 📑
I led a technical planning meeting like a hot mess but done is better than perfect and I got what I needed and got the hell out 😂 Now I have lots of follow-up tasks to deal with~
My senior colleague (not the same one whose work I needed to takeover) led a different planning meeting for his project — I was just there for moral support 😅
I'm also leading our sprint ceremonies now which means I can't multitask during our meetings anymore 😛
Code 🖥️
My pet peeve at work is when people take forever to review my code, so I am always the most responsive peer-reviewer on the team and my colleagues have said many times that they appreciate it and have come to return the favor 😌
I managed to fix an high-priority bug in between all these meetings! 🐞 (I was then immediately assigned another high-priority bug, unfortunately 🙃)

Men in leadership can use their power to seduce women then leave them but a woman in leadership enjoying a night out with friends creates a controversy.
People posting pictures and videos of themselves partying online has become a political statement for some women.
In social media feeds, women are showing themselves dancing, singing or holding a drink to show their solidarity with Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin. She has been under public scrutiny after videos of her dancing and singing with friends circulated on the internet. Those videos were meant to be private, according to Marin.
"I have a family life, I have a work life and I have free time to spend with my friends. Pretty much the same as many people my age," Marin said, according to the Finnish outlet Yle.
Some criticized her behavior, questioning her maturity and competency. Others called for Marin to take a drug test, which she took on Friday in response to the criticism.
The reaction to Marin's behavior struck a particular chord for some women who feel that in both their personal life and in politics, they are held to an unfair standard.
At Alt for Damerne, a Danish weekly women's magazine, female employees compiled a montage of themselves dancing to show women supporting other women.
"Our first idea was to write a column or editorial but then we thought, let's do this with some kind of humor and show that we all have those clips on our camera roll that wasn't supposed to see the light of day," Editor-in-Chief Rikke Dal Støttrup told NPR.
Støttrup added that Marin's ordeal reminds her of the treatment of Helle Thorning-Schmidt, a former prime minister of Denmark who received criticism over her taste in designer clothes.
Rixt Van Dongera, a public affairs coordinator from the Netherlands, also posted a video of herself at the Lowlands Festival with the caption "#SolidaritywithSanna."
Tumblr media
"I wanted to support her and all our rights to be an individual next to her extremely busy job and have fun with her friends," she told NPR. "Dancing with your friends should be regarded as a great way to use your free time."
Marin, who is 36 years old, was elected in 2019 — becoming the country's youngest prime minister and the world's youngest serving prime minister.

Ways to Cultivate a Spirit of Gratitude
Tumblr media
Between work, family, and all of the stresses of life, it is easy to focus  on the things that go wrong. Unfortunately, doing so  can lead to anxiety, depression, and a general dissatisfaction. e. One of the simplest ways to create a new outlook on life is to concentrate on  gratitude. Being grateful, and centering on thankfulness, can put life into perspective and keep your minds in the present. Reaping  the benefits of gratitude requires that thinking and expressing your thanks becomes a way of life. These are some of the best ways to cultivate a spirit of gratitude, which in turn, helps you feel better about life.
Practice Gratitude Through Journaling Research shows the importance of journaling in cultivating a spirit of gratitude to develop a more positive outlook on life. It might be good to bookend the day by journaling first thing in the morning and again before bed. You can simply jot down for what and for whom you  are thankful. Gratitude can include listing not just things but also people and experiences. This ritual serves as a reminder of the good things in life, which can boost any mood.
Meditation Starting a meditation practice that integrates gratitude into an existing routine is another way to cultivate gratitude. Not only does meditation relieve stress on its own, but using that time to focus on gratitude provides an additional bonus. Even a five-minute meditative practice can help center your day around gratitude. By focusing on grateful memories and visualizing positive future outcomes, meditation can help you form  a gratuitous lifestyle.
Gratitude and Conflict Resolution Conflict is an inevitable part of life, but gratitude can foster a positive approach to managing  these situations. Whether conflict arises with a family member, friend, or work colleague, there are ways to center on  gratitude and return to the situation in a more positive, constructive position r. By focusing on gratitude, people can reframe negative situations into something  positive. This is also a way to process the negative emotions that sometimes arise as a result of  conflicts. When we are thankful for our life we are more willing to accept challenges and can anticipate brighter moments.
Cultivating a spirit of gratitude takes effort, but it is possible for everyone to  incorporate gratitude into their lives. The benefits of the practice of gratitude are enormous. Using these methods can help make  gratitude a way of life. If you practice these methods in your own life on a consistent basis, you will become more skilled at the practice of gratitude, and this ,can greatly benefit your life in the long run.

Women: Perspectives, Voices, Power.

"Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn't be that women are the exception." — Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Strategic planning has benefited greatly from the contributions of women throughout businesses. And in the upcoming years, their impact is expected to grow. Women have been instrumental in promoting innovation, encouraging cooperation, and developing creative methods for strategic planning. To guarantee that women have equal opportunity to advance in all professions, organizations still have a lot of work to do.
Companies are using a wealth of talent, promoting diversity and inclusion, challenging gender preconceptions, and giving women the tools they need to thrive. Strategic planning in an organization's future depends on its capacity to harness many viewpoints, regardless of gender.
