“Hey, Bun. How was work?”
You meet Wriothesley with a level glare, as you fumble with locking the door. Maybe rooming with him had saved you money on rent, but what you’d saved had definitely been replaced with extra stress.
“I told you to stop calling me bunny.”
“Perhaps if you didn’t blush like that when I do, I would stop.” He replies, nursing a cup of tea and a book as he relaxes on the sofa. You glare at him again but lower yourself onto the sofa beside him.
“New delivery?” You ask, referring to the tea.
“The one that was delayed,” he says. “It was worth the wait.” He raises the cup to you and you take a sip, taking stock of all the flavours you can before Wriothesley begins to talk about it. One day, you’re sure he’ll find out that you actually have no interest in his teas, and that despite the fact he drives you mad, he’s actually just nice to listen to.
“Seems it was worth the money too,” You say once he’s finished talking. “Definitely belongs in the top ten.”
“Maybe even top five,” he replies, mostly to himself as you stand up. “More work?” he asks lightly, expecting you to grumble about how you're tired of always working, and you wish your manager would stop expecting you to work overtime for free, but this time you smile coyly.
“I have a blind date,” you say quietly, trying to ignore the way he’s looking up at you. “My friend set me up. He’s apparently a very refined, classy guy from a good family, and my friend says he thinks we’d get along well.”
“I wonder what your friend defines as a good family,” Wriothesley says, sipping his tea. “Money? Influence?” He’d never truly considered what you’d look for in a partner before, in fact, he liked to try and avoid the thought if possible. He prefers to only think about the things which affect him directly. But now the topic has been brought up, he suddenly feels strange. If coming from a good family is important to you… That would immediately take him out of the running, wouldn’t it?
“I dunno.” you shrug. “Sometimes my friend just says things. Anyway, thanks for sharing your tea. I’m gonna go get ready.”
Wriothesley watches as you walk away, sighing lightly as he takes another sip of his tea. He’s lived with you for so long that he never truly thought about how his life at home would change if you got a boyfriend. Would it mean he could no longer share his teas with you? Would he have to stop letting you sleep on him when you watch movies together?
He sits with his thoughts until he hears your keys as you leave your room.
“I’m off. Don’t stay up for me.” You smile, and Wriothesley can't help but hate himself for hating how happy you seem to be leaving. He sips his now-cold tea and nods.
“Have fun.”
“You’re grumbling. What’s the matter?” you say, pulling your jacket on.
“I am not grumbling.” he shoots back, standing up to go to the kitchen. “My tea got cold. That’s all.”
“You are so grumbling right now.” you grin. Wriothelsey doesn't know if you are purposefully ignoring his bad mood or if you're so excited about your date that you simply don’t notice, but he doesn’t really like either of those answers. “See you later!”
And then Wriothesley finds himself alone again. Maybe he’d taken it for granted that you’d always be around. Maybe he isn't as okay with the silence as he’d made himself believe he was.
Even though you told him not to wait up, he finds himself unable to sleep. He tells himself it's not because he’s worried, it's just because he had a rare lie in this morning. It's natural for his body to be slightly out of sync, right? You’re perfectly capable of taking care of yourself, and today is just like every other day and–
His phone is ringing. It’s odd for him to get called by his manager so late in the day, but it's also not rare.
It's even rarer for it to be you calling.
“Wriothesley?”
“Hey, Bun. What’s going on?” He can’t help but smile a little. There you are on a date, but you’re calling him.
“Are you busy right now?”
It's only then that he notices the wavering in your voice.
“I’m not. What’s the matter?”
“Can you come and get me? I… I’m sorry, I just don’t know who else to call.”
You sound cold, he notices. Your teeth chatter together in between your words, and the wavering in your voice seems to be getting worse.
“Where are you? Why aren’t you inside?” He grabs his keys and he’s out of the door before you even have the chance to respond. His legs are moving faster than his mind can, and he’s already halfway down the stairs before he knows it.
You tell him where you are, but pointedly avoid his second question, and he supposes that’s fair. Maybe you just don’t want to share.
“I’m coming. Don’t move.”
Even despite the fact he’s glad you called him, Wriothesley wonders why you didn’t call an Uber. You’ve always been very vocal about how much you hate his motorcycle, and how you wish he’d just get a car. is the situation so dire that you don't care anymore?
When he gets to you, you’re sat outside of an upscale restaurant. He’s sure you left with a jacket, but you don’t have it on now.
“Hey,” he says, sitting next to you. “What’s the matter?”
You burst into tears when he asks you that question, and for a second, Wriothesley has no clue what to do. It’s you who buries your face into his chest, sobbing desperately.
“It was going okay at first, but the waitress got the guy’s order wrong and he went crazy. So they asked him to pay and leave, and then he said he didn’t want to because his order was wrong. He demanded that a manager come and then he said that I should pay. And I said I’d pay for my half, but as I was saying that I wasn’t going to pay for him, the manager came and picked up the wrong end of the stick, and she wouldn’t listen to the waitress who was defending me. So she asked us both to leave, and he’s screaming his head off, and they barely even gave me time to grab my phone before they marched us out. They would have left me with him while he was blowing his top if it wasn’t for the waitress who came with me until he left.” you cling onto his jacket. “I’m so embarrassed.”
“Don’t be embarrassed.” He says lowly. “It’s not your fault. It was never your fault.” He shrugs his jacket off and puts it over your shoulders. “Show me your table. I’ll get your stuff.”
“Wriothesley, please.” You can feel the anger radiating off him, and you worry about what will happen if he ends up on the wrong side of that manager.
“You shouldn’t suffer because of a guy with no manners. Let me get your things.”
You nod but insist on staying outside. The waitress that you said helped you earlier is the one that greets Wriothesley at the door, and you watch on as she brings him your things, and he settles the bill.
“You didn’t have to do that,” You tell Wriothesley as he returns.
“I did. Shall we go?” He asks, handing you a helmet. He’d bought that helmet for you when you first moved in together, just in case you ever needed to use his motorbike, but you always refused. He’s glad that it’s finally getting used at least once.
The ride home is silent, and you don’t say anything until you get back into your apartment. The feeling of the wind against your skin and your arms around Wriothesley calms you, and even though you feel humiliated by the actions of your stupid blind date, you feel that maybe things aren’t all that bad.
“You finally stopped calling me bunny,” you say, as you flop onto the sofa. Wriothesley hums in response as he fills up the kettle. In his haste, he’d left all of the lights in the apartment on.
“Does it bother you?”
“A little.”
“You’re so contrary.” He says finally. “You say you hate me calling you bunny, but here you are. You say you hate my motorbike, but you’re okay with me using it to pick you up.”
“I don’t hate your motorcycle.” You say, sitting up to look at him properly. “I think it’s cool.”
“Right, that’s why you refused to ever be near it.”
“I just hated the thought of you getting hurt on it.” You say finally. “It scared me.” He hands you a cup of tea and sits next to you. He hadn’t expected that to be your reasoning. “A part of me hoped that you wouldn’t let me go on that date, you know.”
“Why? It’s not my place to tell you what not to do. If you want to go on a blind date, I can’t stop you.” Those are the words he’d told himself as he watched you leave—you were your own person and it wasn’t his place to try and police what you do.
“You don’t understand.”
“Maybe I don’t,” he replies. “Help me understand.”
You take a deep breath. “If I kissed you, would that help you get it?”
“I don’t know. I suppose you’ll have to try.” He smiles. He barely even gets to finish his sentence when you pull him down to you and kiss him. In all the time he imagined he’d get to kiss you, he didn't think you’d be the one to initiate–-but even still, he wraps his arms around you and pulls you closer.
“Do you get it now?” you ask giddily.
“Not quite.”
So you kiss him again and again until he gets the message.
Bonus:
“You’re not the sharpest pencil in the box, really, are you?”
“Luckily for me, you’d make a great sharpener.”

alright listen
I know we're all having an evaluation of how eagerly we believe people who present with even the slightest air of authority and frankly good! we all need to be less credulous of people on the internet who tell lies.
but I think there are also other lessons to learn from james somerton. namely about his raging and blatant misogyny, which I've often seen similar forms of in fandom and on this specific site. to paraphrase bombs himself in the ctrl alt del video, if you see shitty behavior within your sphere, it's important to recognize it and try to fix it instead of rejecting it and asserting that no REAL members of the ingroup are like that. and nerds have a misogyny problem. including tumblr. so let's reckon with it.
do you append "white" or "straight" to your comments about women even when those things have little to do with the topic being discussed, just to make your comments seem more legit? (and no, m/m shipping discourse does not give you a ticket to say it's all straight women -- it's fictional characters, james.) do you often theorize about how (hurriedly appended "straight/white/cis") women are responsible for a problem in fandom, nay, all problems in fandom? have you made up a guy based on a single post that annoyed you and extrapolated to say that all (appended signifier to make it ok) women in fandom are like that? do you see women as uniquely fetishizing, uniquely stupid about politics or social issues, uniquely annoying to talk to? do you assume when there's an issue, even a real one and not the fake ones james made up, that a woman is probably at the root of it?
all of this still applies to you if you're a woman. it also applies if you're gay or a person of color or trans. being an oppressed group doesn't mean you are immune from sexism, and sexism is still rampant in everyday life for pretty much everyone.
your shipping and fandom discourse isn't immune from this. no, I'm not talking about how not enough people like yuri. I'm talking about how women who like "bad" ships like r*ylo or whatever are seen as open targets for harassment. how women who are into "bad/problematic" fandoms are seen as idiots and enablers who deserve what they get. how there's an attitude that women who like shitty bad porn must think it's good, must be too stupid to know better, and must need to be handheld and taught about good, acceptable fiction. I've already talked a lot about tumblr's complete refusal to admit that fujoshi wasn't a term coined by delicate japanese mlm to complain about evil women (and I wonder if james contributed to that idiotic concept), but the way I've seen people assert that women into m/m must be straight, must be stupid, must be lying about their identities, must be hurting gay men in real life in addition to wanting some anime boys to kiss ...
I've seen how some of you people talk about amb*r h*ard, is all I'm saying, and I've seen what you've tried to do to dozens of female creatives that, for some reason, you've decided deserve to be taken down or taught a lesson. I've seen the descriptions you use. shrieking, bitchy, whiny, uppity, shrewish, karen (don't get me started on how karen has been turned into an easy excuse for misogyny). you're not bystanders to what james did and is doing, you're a part of it. sure, you might not have the nazi fetish, but you've said things about women that put somerton to shame.
just a thing to keep in mind while the plagiarism discourse is ongoing. somerton is a shithead for many reasons but this is one that's important to remember because I think people often treat misogyny like a lesser crime, a smaller concern, and it's not. just think of what laws are passing and what views popular movements have of women and then, for one moment, consider that maybe your reflexive need to blame women or pick them apart might have been influenced by the Society In Which We Live.

Fandom is wild! I love it.
Also, I'm just thinking and those thoughts are wandering out of my fingertips. This is just me wondering "aloud".
Tommy Kinard shows up for 30 seconds, after comments about Buck going on a self-discovery journey, and BOOM we have a new relationship and portmanteau in less then 60 seconds.
After last season, I have zero expectations for this season. I can honestly say last season was the most disappointing of the show for me. That ending was awful.
But back to the speculation and messiness. Okay, let's assume for a minute that Buck and Tommy start messing around. I hate to break it to the general public but it isn't as uncommon as you may think for people in their 30s, 40s, and even older to realize they may not be the sexuality they thought they were or to say, "I don't give a damn", and start exploring different avenues.
Personally, I think Buck has been bi-coded all along. But, that's just my opinion. I think he just hasn't dated any man since he began working at the 118.
As for Eddie, I think when they were on Fox, that character was written to appeal to the...ahem...Fox demographic. He's a macho, muscular, handsome alpha male type: good old southern boy, religious, war hero, badass, survivor who loves his family and country. No way was that character EVER going to be anything remotely other than completely heterosexual.
I also believe that as long as the show was on Fox, no white male lead would be anything other than straight. (Look at the history of the major or recurring gay characters on the show. Hen, Karen, Michael, David, the first guy Michael was dating, Eva, and Josh. Note the ratios and how almost stereotypical Eva and Josh are written.)
With a move to ABC, I think there is a chance for a more...diverse spectrum within the LGBTQ characters; however, I am not sure ABC is willing to write both the male leads, I know Bobby and Chim are strongly written characters, but let's be real, Buck and Eddie are arguably the most popular characters, as possibly bi or gay and put them together. Why are they, and not Bobby or Chim, the most popular, especially with that coveted demographic of women 18-49? When you answer that you have the reason both networks might be hesitant to put two men who live in each other's pockets and co-parent a child together.
In business and marketing, how race and sexuality are approached is still quite influenced by the vocal majority and how they think it works. It isn't right. It silences the voices of those who aren't TPTB. The people who are members of those groups aren't listened to, but that is how it is.
My heart will always beat for Buddie endgame. (And write Buddie fanfic when I have time.) But I have seen how media, marketing, and corporations operate and they will always feed the people holding the wallets keeping them afloat. That is why there is a part of me that believes Buddie is probably only going to exist in fanfic.
Buck, and Buck alone, may be given a bi arc while Eddie is written as 100% heterosexual and permanently paired with a woman, while being supportive of Buck and his partner.
By keeping one canonically straight and making the other canonically bi they can straddle the fence. They can play up the chemistry between Buck and Eddie, teasing a what might or could be situation, while keeping them apart.
I could also be totally wrong. Maybe when Eddie realizes Buck likes men, he decides to add more rainbow to his preferences, give in to the very dirty, and locked down like a bank vault, fleeting thoughts he's had about his best friend over the years, corner Buck alone, tell him drop Tommy or whatever man is d-ing him down, and do the d-ing down himself.
Hey, ABC! You are welcome to use the last paragraph for inspiration!

Btw I was yesterday years old when i noticed/it was pointed out to me that Karen's revue outfit is the only one with the golden stripe on her shoes split in half:
Tumblr media
That and the famous "white-instead-of-red" shoulder belt are where her design departs from the rest. Otherwise her outfit sticks to the Seisho classics: red pelisse (except Hikari's blue exception), golden belt, white tulle dress tail, golden lanyards, golden lining (except Claudine's silver) etc. The white shoulder belt I get - her outfit is already primarily red since that is her character color, and the pelisse is red too, so the white is a nice contrast and pops out more. But the double stripe of the shoes...?! I do wonder. I've got nothing. Since Karen's transformation is a "self-remake", I see how the design can be a bit different, either because it's influenced by her own perception of the outfits or because Kirin/the stage just wanted something ever so slightly different, marking her as the intruder in a subtle way. It made me go all the way back to episode 1 of Revue Starlight to look into the first atashi saiseisan/"self-remake" again to look at how the shoes are manifactured. Just like all the other elements they are mass-produced, so that makes it even more interesting to see that they have just a slight bit of variation to the others.

I love your oc’s! Your art is so beautiful and I’ve fallen into a rabbit hole about them! I was wondering if you’re willing to share the types of relationships they have with the camp! With someone like Dutch or John or Tilly etc?
Oh my gosh thank you so much!!! :D
Hell yeah I’ll get into it
Mattie + Dutch: She like fully hates the guy, but not for reasons you’d expect. She doesn’t like his fashion sense, she thinks he’s too loud, and she hates his jokes. She just genuinely finds him annoying. (I mean she also begins to not like him for other reasons later but like yk)
Mattie + John: they pretty much only talk when they’re doing a job together or drunk, they have a mutual respect but refuse to talk about personal matters with each other. They’re occasional business partners and drinking buddies but that’s it
Mattie + tilly: they’re around the same age, so they have a silly friendship! Tilly and Karen are Mattie’s favs in the gang, (besides arthur and Hosea) they’re the only ones who can get her to sing campfire songs
Flora and Dutch: she also isn’t very fond of him, but has more respect for him than mattie does. She wants to believe in him, but she can’t get behind all of his philosophies, and actively counters him when she doesn’t agree with what he’s saying (kinda like lenny, who Flora adores btw)
Flora and John: she doesn’t really like the guy all that much in the beginning, especially cause she’s very influenced by Arthur’s opinion of him. She respects him in a gun fight though, and is quite jealous of how tall he is.
Flora and Tilly: they’re super competitive about dominoes. The only thing they talk about and do when floras has her occasional visit in camp is dominoes. It brings out a competitive side in the two of them that is unmatched anywhere else. Insults are thrown, it gets brutal. Afterwards they’re fine though

-kicks in double swinging doors and almost gets hit in the face-
What if Steve starts sleep walking after season one, and Billy almost runs him over before Billy started school in Hawkins. Steve shocks awake when Billy gets out of his car, is confused and in nothing but his pajamas and socks at night in mid October, and Billy drives him home.
Billy starts feeling concerned when it keeps happening. (Some times Steve remembers it, some times he doesn't.) Billy reads up a bit on sleepwalkers at the library and he starts feeling a little protective over Steve. They start hanging out during the day too.
Steve some times sleep talks about what happened. Billy feels- kind of needed and starts cruising at night sometimes just in case Steve takes a stroll, sometimes just let's Steve sleep it off in his passenger seat. It's calming and good for his nerves.
Steve gradually becomes Billy’s passenger princess 👸 Billy’s moods are more stable with Steve’s influence, having a good excuse to be out of the house and away from Neil more. Max learns about their weird friendship and that Steve sleepwalks.
The Halloween party and school turn out different, though Steve lies to the others about how they know each other. Billy doesn't mind, kinda likes that they have a secret. They hang out even more outside of school. After Nancy dumps him at the party, Steve drives Billy and Max, drops Max at home, and Billy stays the night at his house because Steve really needs the company.
When Billy sees Steve at the Byers house, he almost wonders if Steve is sleeping walking again. Steve trusts Billy enough to just tell him the truth and show him the demodog.
Afterwards, Billy starts just showing up at Steve’s to drive him around on Hawkins backroads until he falls asleep.
Steve gradually sleepwalks less now he has someone to talk to more, has the kids to keep an eye on now, Dustin, and Billy.
Maybe instead of the pool, Billy gets a job at the gym at Starcourt mall so he can see Steve in his stupid cute uniform.
If Billy ends up in the hospital after the mindflayer or something (No date with Karen this time, was on his way to pick up Steve) and winds up in a coma, Steve starts sleepwalking again and Eddie finds Steve this time.
But that's another post. Should I do a part two?

Agent KLCTVxx0038цч (aka “Karen/Karina Katasova, APRN, CANS”): “Oh, sunshine, remember what we talked about. <places patient file F8-021v2 onto countertop> I don’t like to think of it as ‘hypnotizing’ you. It’s more a mix of…’well, we call it ‘psychological induction’ and ‘guided manifestation’.”
Subj F8-021-TB: <laughs> “Okay if you say so - I just, like, want more…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Can you tell me why?”
<Agent biofeedback node xx0038 shows activation of B.A.galamukh1 implant; other vitals steady>
Subj F8-021-TB: “Well, last time, a couple weeks ago, when you did it with me I…I felt great, after. I went home and I was so much more confident, with, like, my boyfriend, my math teacher. And, like, everyone, men…it was awesome.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “That’s good to hear. You’re taking to treatment so well! But we should do your physical exam first, and get you your next injection. Here, stand up, let’s see the figure. Any progress since last time?”
Subj F8-021-TB: <giggles> “MMhmm, well -” <Subject stands, tightens gown around torso>

Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Oh, well, those got bigger! <laughs> Fantastic, you look amazing. Have you had to buy new bras? Remember, we’ll have the custom ones coming to you soon…”
Subj F8-021-TB: “I did have to buy a couple. Well, daddy did <giggles>. I went up another two cup sizes.”

Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Well, sunshine, that’s....five-eight and a bit. You’ve grown almost another two-point-f…another whole inch since last time, more than five inches since we started. And for weight it’s-”
Subj F8-021-TB: <laughs>”Omigod please, don’t tell me!”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: <laughs> “Oh it’s nothing to be ashamed about! But I understand! We’ll keep that a mystery but someday you’ll be proud of everything you’ve gained.”
Subj F8-021-TB: “What, when I’m, like, eight hundred pounds?” <giggles>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Oh, Thalia, don’t be silly! But, tell me…what’s been going on with your father? You were mentioning him last time. Is he still embarrassed by what you’ve been posting online?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Oh, god, yes.” <huff of exasperation> “He tells me all the time: ‘Tally! I’m a Senator! You can’t be SAYING these things!’ He’s so boring that way.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Aw, that’s unfortunate, that must be hard. But remind me - he wasn’t up for re-election this year?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “No, lucky him, ‘cuz it sounds like women won everything, huh? Like, the other senator from Minnesota is going to be a woman, now.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Oh? I hadn’t heard that.”
<Agent visualized readying Product dose>
Subj F8-021-TB: “Yeah totally. But, anyway, I know his political advisers tell him to just keep letting me do what I do, post what I want, that it’s doing wonders for his approval ratings or whatever. That he should, like, lean into what I’m doing, to use my, like, lots of followers. ‘Raise his profile’, a bit.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Mmmmhm. How does that feel, having influence like that? It must feel good, right? Thinking that you have this kind of…power, over your father? This important, accomplished man?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “It…does. But, it’s weird. Every time I see him he looks, like…smaller. Like, he’s not as smart or whatever as he used to be. And, like, with every new follower - or thousand followers - I get I feel like I’m…I dunno…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Getting stronger? Bigger? More important and influential? Oh, sunshine, you are. You’re growing into a strong, strong young woman. Thousands and thousands of people watch you, listen to you. You can tell them what to do, how to think. Do you believe that?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Yes.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “And, your father? Him, men like him? Their days, their days of being in charge are coming to an end. Do you see that? I think, in fact, that your father is-”
Subj F8-021-TB: “I think he’s a little scared of me.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Yes, yes. Go on, more, Tally, continue…”
Subj F8-021-TB: “I heard, actually, that his advisors told him to be careful, ‘don't piss her off’, they said...”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “That if you used the weight of your growing fame to hurt him it could honestly be the end of his career?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Omigod yes.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Sunshine I’m so proud of you. Now, are you ready for your next injection?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “oh god yes okay.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Alright here we go. Just a little pinch…”
<Agent KLCTVxx0038цч visualized administering Dose 005, Evolution Pharmaceuticals Product 0008/“Product”, labeled lot 00854g to Subj F8-021-TB on camera, time stamp 10:30:44; intramuscular, left deltoid.>
Subj F8-021-TB: “owww!” <giggles>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Sorry sunshine. Did that hurt?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Just a little. It’s okay.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: <disposing of syringe, sharps container FH0093> “So, tell me. Since we last saw you - how are you feeling, Thalia?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Oh, yeah, me? Pretty good. Well, really good…warm? It changes every day. Full? Tingly?” <giggles>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “That’s all normal, good. You’d mentioned your boyfriend, how you were feeling different around him. Can you tell me a little more about that?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “About my boyfriend?”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Yes, about him. I’m sure your boyfriend is…excited about how you’re changing, how much you’re growing. What’s happening to you is like every guy’s dream, these days. You’ve been with him for a while now, right?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Yeah we started hanging out like, a year ago? And he, yeah…likes it. It freaked him out at first, but now…well, I don’t know if excited is a strong enough word. It’s almost like he becomes a different person when we’re, like, together…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “When you two are alone?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Well, yeah…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Oh? How so?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Well, lately, he really focuses in on…” <subject motions to her chest> “And it’s like, well, it’s like he just can’t stop. Can’t get enough of them…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “You used the term ‘boob-monkey’ last time?”
Subj F8-021-TB: <giggles> “Omigod did I? That’s my little nickname for him. Did I really tell you that?”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “It’s okay. You did.”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Omigod I’m such a dork. But, I don’t really know how else to put it. He can be really pushy, you know? In normal life, in school. But when these started to grow, and then when I get him alone, whenever I take off my top, or put them in front of his face, he goes real quiet. He can barely string two words together, you know? And he grunts…he whines. Kind of like a monkey or a, like…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “A baby?”
Subj F8-021-TB: <giggles> “Yes, yes! Exactly. Like a baby!” <giggles>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “That’s interesting. Don’t you find that interesting?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Uh…yeah. And it’s, like, exciting, being able to do that to him. Is that normal? Is everything okay?”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Yes, yes of course, Thalia. This is all within normal parameters for the treatment. He’s changing just as you're changing. Now, what else happens when you’re with your boyfriend?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Well…he’s really into nuzzling into me, cuddling. Sucking on my, like…nipples.” <giggles> “Oh…I’m sorry, this just seems so weird to talk about!”
<Agent biofeedback node xx0038 shows further increased activity of B.A.galamukh1 laryngeal implant; Frontal (15Hz) and Occipital (19Hz) Beta wave activity up-modulated>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Now now, we are both the women here, no need to be shy.”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Ooooo I felt that…! <giggles> Yeah, of course. Well, like I said, he really burrows in, and even though he doesn’t tell me…well, he can’t tell me, but I could just sense he wants me to, like, smother him, to really mash my boobs around his face, to…yeah. Smother him.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “And do you? Smother him?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Well, <giggles>…yeah. Like, playing. But, sometimes…it gets to be more than just playing.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “I understand. That’s good. That’s you exerting strength, do you see? Strength and dominance. Showing him what you could easily do, if you wanted.”
Subj F8-021-TB: “oh god yes I get it…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Does he struggle, try to stop you from actually smothering him?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “No. It’s almost like…the more my boobs cover his face, the less he struggles. It’s like he…wants it. Wants me to…bury him under my, like, breasts.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “He wants to submit to you, do you see? Be submissive. He wants to be buried in your body, inside you somehow, part of you. And there’s nothing you’d like to do more than that, is there?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “No, that’s…oh, god…exactly it.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Fascinating. Now, you are the social media…what is the word? ‘Influencer’, is that it?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Yes, I have like almost eight-hundred thousand followers and subs, now. My videos have been getting millions of, like…likes.” <giggles>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “But you didn’t start that way, right?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “No, yeah, right. In fact, just like six months ago, before my first dose, I had only like a few hundred followers, my videos got maybe a couple-few views…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “And, tell me…what changed?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Well…these things!” <laughs, motions to chest> “They grew like…like…well, one sub said like ‘watermelons after a rainstorm’.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “And your followers…they are like your boyfriend?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Oh my gosh, yes…they’re constantly simping for me, now. Omigod the ‘mommy’ comments I get! ‘I want mommy’ ‘I want milk’, pleading for me to smother them with my ‘mommy milkers’...<giggles> “Don’t they know I’m still in high school??” <;giggles>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “I see. And…did you get the same sense from your father, or from the doctor, today, earlier?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “I…w-what?”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “It’s okay Thalia, you’re not in the trouble. As a member of the medical team, it’s my job to make observations for continued research. Honestly, I’m happy that you did what you did with the doctor today. Now, what did you feel when the doctor came into the room?”
Subj F8-021-TB: <pauses> “Well, I just felt this, like, I dunno…connection to him. I was so grateful he was here to help me…but he was so little. I felt like he needed me to, like, nurture him, to care for him. I needed to pull him to me, to my chest…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Go on…”
Subj F8-021-TB: “He needed my comfort, my softness and hugs and…and deep down I could sense he wanted me to absolutely bury him between my boobs. And then suddenly I felt him just sink into my chest, felt him struggle a little bit, then relax. <subject moans> It felt so nice…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “That’s incredible Thalia - is that why you greeted him how you did?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “I…yes. Can you…oh god, do the thing.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “I will, I promise. But tell me more about that, when you first saw the doctor..”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Well…when he came in, I was just overwhelmed by how small and precious and, like…how vulni he was. I couldn’t help it - I just filled the room with my…what do you call them? Pheromones?”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: Yes, that is the right. You’ve been using them, practicing, at home?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “I…yes. But they’re sometimes…hard to control.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “That is okay. That is the good. I want you to practice, to use them. You will practice, you will use them. You will get stronger, you will gain control. Do you understand?”
<Agent biofeedback node xx0038 shows further increased activity of B.A.galamukh1 laryngeal implant; Frontal and Occipital Beta wave activity increasing in amplitude.>
Subj F8-021-TB: “Omigod there it is again, <sighs>. Yes…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Now tell me again, Thalia, when he came in…”
Subj F8-021-TB: “The pheromones. They just gushed out of me. I could see immediately where he was looking. Even though he was trying not to look I could, like, sense where his attention was focused, how he felt, and I knew I needed to…to just deal with it, you know?”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Yes, Go on, Thalia…”
Subj F8-021-TB: “He asked, his voice was shaky but he needed to know numbers, to know just how big I was, how big I was growing. So I told him, told him that I’d gained thirty pounds since my first treatment, and a lot of it up here.” <subject presses out her chest, demonstrating breast size><;giggles>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Thalia, I see the smile on your face. You sound like you are the joking, but you are proud of your developments, aren’t you?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Yes, well…who wouldn’t want to be bigger like this? It just…feels…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “It feels the right, doesn’t it?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Yes, exactly! But at the same time, even though I said what I said as a bit of a laugh, to him…I meant it. I wanted him to know just how heavy my breasts are…if that makes sense?”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “It makes the very good sense, Thalia. You are good. You did the good. Now…let’s talk about your father some more…”
Subj F8-021-TB: “...Daddy?”
<Agent biofeedback node xx0038 shows further increased activity of B.A.galamukh1 laryngeal implant and activation of Eldritch Nanotech; new prefrontal Gamma activity present>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Yes…now, again, we’re just girls here, right? How is your father handling all of this?”
Subj F8-021-TB: <moaning> “Oh god, yes. Well…I mean…he’s been gone for so long…he’s a Senator, you know. Lucky for him he wasn’t up for re-election this year. But yeah…he’s kind of missed all these changes with me, but he’s home now on recess…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Mmhmm?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “And at first he seemed really blown away - eyes wide, giving me these brief, almost awkward hugs. But lately…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: <pause> “Yes?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Lately he’s let his eyes linger a little too long…and…I can see it. It’s like there’s this…longing in his eyes.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Thalia…do you get the same feeling with your father as you get with your boyfriend? With your followers? With the doctor?”
Subj F8-021-TB: <hesitates> “uhhh…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “It’s okay, Thalia, this is all protected by HIPAA and our confidentiality agreement. What you tell me now is protected information.”
Subj F8-021-TB: <pause> “y-yes…It’s faint right now. But I can feel it. Like, Daddy…he’s being drawn to me. Like he needs me to protect, to nurture, to care for him…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “To smother him, too?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “omigod yes maybe.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “And…have you noticed any other changes, now that you’re growing up? You had said something about it before. Does your father actually look…smaller to you?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “I…Well, yes. Now that you mention it.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “That’s wonderful, Thalia…you’re not imagining it. It’s actually happening, you’re making it happen. Do you see how strong you’re getting?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “oh, my god, Ms. Katasova…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Please, call me Karina. But how does that make you feel? That you’re growing and your papochka…sorry, your father…that he’s shrinking? That you’re making him smaller? That one day, a US Senator, he could be tiny compared to you?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Well…omigod. A little awkward? Because he’s my daddy? B…b…but…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “...but also a little powerful?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “<sigh>...nnngh...exactly…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “I want you to think about how empowering that could be for you, Thalia. To make him smaller, and weaker. You have this natural tendency to care for and protect others, and now you’re growing into the job. Imagine being the protector and nurturer, being bigger for them, while they all get smaller, and need you more, get dependent on you for warmth and love. You could be a mommy for your boyfriend, for your followers, for your father…”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Oh god that would feel sooo good…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Tell me how it would feel, Thalia.”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Like, like I was giving the whole world a big, squishy hug!” <giggles, hugs herself around chest>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “I think the world needs a hug from you Thalia!” <laughs>
Subj F8-021-TB: <laughing> “Yes they do!”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “And your father, he needs your support now, to keep his job, as a senator. He depends on staying in your…how do you say? Good graces. He is afraid, Thalia. Do you see? If he has your support he can have everything, but you could take your support away.”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Oh god yes it’s like I’m his boss.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Yes and you will tell him that, let him know. But you will be the kind, loving, understanding. He is a weak, small man. Your father, you understand, likes big boobs also. He likes them a lot. Just like your boyfriend, just like your followers.”
Subj F8-021-TB: “y-yeah my mom told me…”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “That is the good, that’s good that you can share. What do some of your followers, or your boyfriend, ask you to do?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Like, mommy stuff? Or, like, live in my bra?”
<Agent biofeedback node xx0038 shows optimal Beta wave activity>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Maybe your father would like to try some of these things too. ‘Mommy stuff’.”
Subj F8-021-TB: <pauses> “Yes I think he might. <sighs, pauses again> Thank you, Karina.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “You are the welcome. <smiles, pauses> Want me to call him back in here, the doctor, so you can practice?”
Subj F8-021-TB: “Omigod could you? That would be awesome.”
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “Yes of course. Why don’t you remove your top, begin making more pheromones? I can go get him.”
<Subj F8-021-TB visualized removing exam gown, unzipping sports bra>
Agent KLCTVxx0038цч: “How about a picture for your followers?”
Subj F8-021-TB: <giggles>

Excerpt from Entertainment Weekly:
Selfie (ABC) Can you believe that we once had a delightful rom-com starring human charm bombs Karen Gillan and John Cho, and we let it slip away after only a single season? This short-lived ABC sitcom had an admittedly atrocious title, but the show itself proved to have surprising depth. Gillan starred as Eliza, a self-obsessed social media maven who recruits co-worker Henry (Cho) to help her on a My Fair Lady-esque redemption journey. The result is a biting send-up of influencer culture, anchored by Gillan and Cho's sizzling chemistry. —Devan Coggan

London, January 1968.
“[Karen] Harvey was living in the same apartment building as Tork, at 35 Bedford St., and they cemented a friendship that had started earlier. ‘We’re still very, very good friends,’ she said. Through a girlfriend at one of the art galleries, Harvey also go to know David Crosby. He and Tork were responsible for getting Harvey to move West. 'He [Crosby] fell in love with my girlfriend and took her back to California. Then Peter got this Monkees thing and moved there. Everybody was trying to get me to come to California, and so I eventually went,’ Harvey says. 'She came because I asked her to,’ Tork confirmed during a phone call from California. 'I can’t actually say she was my girlfriend. She was my roommate. She came back and forth for a while. I’m an old fan of hers from way, way back. Karen is a wonderful singer.’ Although she eventually got her own apartment, Harvey spent much of her time at Tork’s house, under the famous 'Hollywood’ sign. 'I was handling a lot of affairs of the house because he [Tork] was working like a slave,’ Harvey said. 'TV work is no picnic.’ With the increasing amount of money and fame through the Monkees’ TV show, Tork moved to a bigger house (once owned by actor Wally Cox) in Studio City. They also needed more room because Tork, Harvey and Robert Hammer, who directed the horror film 'Don’t Answer the Phone,’ had formed a film company called Breakthrough-Influence, whose work included videos for Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Steve Miller." - The News Journal, July 16, 1989 (x)
“I don’t know that it [fame] affected my ability to have friendships. Basically I don’t think I knew how to be or have a friend beforehand, and I don’t think I learned while I was in that operation [The Monkees]. I mean, I had some good buddies, you know, but that wasn’t the same thing, I didn’t really understand. There was only one person in my life that I could turn to when I was hurting who happened somehow to know what it was, what it took to stop me hurting, and that was a woman named Karen Harvey, who later joined me on the West Coast. And I thought, well, here’s a friend come to join me and this will be a real friend. And we were pretty good friends, I guess, but there wasn’t any that, you know, that — I didn’t know what a friend did in a sense of how, on a day-to-day basis, do you maintain your friendships, do you go out of your way to make sure that things are nice and right and, you know, the kind of work that a friendship takes. You don’t just have a friendship without work. And I didn’t know that. And I’m not so sure I know it now.” - Peter Tork, NPR, June 3, 1983
“The producers at one point for some reason decided to take us to Paris, right before we were doing a short tour of Britain — I think one of them had a girlfriend in France, I don’t know. And they took some cameras and they shot us being goofy on the streets of Paris, and that was a lot of fun. And then at the end of the shooting day, ‘Okay, you’re done, go home, go to your rooms, to your hotel room.’ Luxurious hotel room in Paris, who could wish for anything more? Well, I was lonely as hell. So there’s more things than luxurious. So I wrote a couple of songs, just out of, you know, loneliness. One of them will hopefully be forever confined to the dustbin of history. The other one [’Lady’s Baby’] was about the lady that I was living with at the time, and her son. That’s them, that’s my darling Karen, with whom I am still very good friends all these years later.” - Peter Tork during his My Life In The Monkees & So Much More tour, 2013 (x)

SO what’s your process for creating characters? Especially supporting cast who are important but not influential in the plot? Walk me through it!!
Hey Buddies!
Hokai so Character Creation is a big big ass subject and a very important one. To quote Chuck Wendig: “Stories are soylent green, they’re made of people”. And if you take even a glance at fandoms you’d see how important characters are to readers and fans. Characters are how we step into story and these wonderful worlds writers create, they’re what we connect to, empathise with and so on.
I like to break character’s down into three groups: Main Characters, usually our hero, main villain, any POV characters or live interests. Side Characters, the protag’s friends, allies, love interests, smaller antagonists. And supporting characters, everyone else that fills up the world and makes it feel alive and gives it depth.
So if we’re gonna focus on side and supporting characters, there’s a few key things to remember:
Characters aren’t just people, they’re tools in our storytelling kits. While we should seek to make them feel alive, we need to remember their purpose and function in the story.
All characters save for the once and done ones you make up on the fly like that barista with a bad attitude or the kindly bus driver should have some depth, positive traits, flaws and at least a suggestion of change, if only in how readers and pov characters see them.
Draw from life but don’t copy from life.
It can be so easy to slip into cliche and offensive stereotypes so it’s vital to be mindful about what kind of character’s you’re putting on the page and how you’re using them. Some stories are not yours to tell and that’s okay.
Finally to be perfectly honest, a lot of this for me is kind of instinctual. Some of my favourite side characters popped up out of nowhere and had at most a sentence in my outline telling me their purpose. But I’ll try to explain my thought process.
When I’m planning or writing a story and the need for a Side character comes up (a protagonist’s friend or neighbour, coworker, boss,) someone that’s gonna have some influence on the pov character, that we’ll see more than once I try to settle on their purpose.
Are they an ally? A friend? A helpful neighbour? Are they this asshole down the street that has conflicts with the pov character? A henchman of the bad guy? Are they there to help or hinder or be a foil or a mirror?
Say we have a protagonist who is kind of isolated and withdrawn. She’s gone through some shit, has trauma from before the story but their character arc isn’t about struggling through the dark alone but learning to make bonds, to finding their own people and community. They’re gonna need some nice side characters to help with that. Someone she can bump into a lot and form those beginning connections with.
Off the top of my head that means neighbours, either immediate or down the street/hall, people that frequent the same places she will like the cafe on the corner, wherever she works, etc. Let’s go with neighbours. Maybe… Older nosey neighbours, the kind that’d chat over the fence or bustle by to say hi and welcome and offer something baked.
Right off the bat, I get a bunch of ideas, my brain throwing at me examples I’ve seen or read of before either as they are or recombined into new ones. I see Wilfred from Dr Who, Carl from Up, a bunch of Karens (male and female) from social media, people that I’ve known in real life, including my own Grandmother. And I think about this character’s purpose.
I want them to be an ally, someone that helps my protag along their personal journey. That’d mean they’d have to be friendly, warm, good hearted, but a bit nosey and probably very stubborn to get past the walls my protag has thrown up. My mind clicks onto the archetype of a grumpy old man, all bristle and hot air but caring. No nonsense, no bullshit, calls it like he sees it but not tactless.
I like this idea but I don’t stop here. I keep poking at it like I’m building something from lego without a plan, putting things on, taking them off. Maybe this guy is a widower and just as lonely as our protagonist. Maybe a grandfather estranged from family but wishing he could have done better. Maybe his wife is still alive but they never had kids.
Eventually, I settle on this idea of the two old love birds, no kids but they like to take in strays. Meaning they keep an eye out for anyone alone and offer a welcome. Nothing pushy, just the ‘neighbourly thing’ to do. Then it’s just what they look like (He’s broad and blocky, strong in his youth, and she’s small and petite with eyes magnified by thick glasses), what their basic personality is like (he’s a grump but sincere, she’s sweet but mischievously sassy and they bicker for fun), maybe things like heritage(Italian-American, Irish, maybe Eastern European), health concerns(he has arthritic knees and a replaced hip and uses a cane, she maybe had breast cancer), habits, etc and that’s enough for me to go off.
I only really understand my characters after I’ve written them for a bit, so try them out in a few scenes and see how you like them.
This is also where I double check my work for stereotypes, especially when working with identities and so on beyond my own experience. I highly recommend you double check with people belonging to those groups, or refer to one of the blogs on tumblr that act as a point of reference like WritingWithColor. Be humble and open to learning with this.
If you really want to go further, you can give them an arc of their own. Maybe they have their own struggles you wanna touch on that could flesh out the story, give your protagonist a chance to do something in return. Maybe a problem that reflects the main conflict but on a micro scale. But the trick here is the audience doesn’t need to see all of it, just the changes that matter and serve the greater story.
And of course as always, sometimes my plans explode in my face and I have to adapt. I’ve made these characters up on the fly when I realised I needed one, I’ve also cut them from the story or combined two or even three into one, or I realised I needed a friend to be an enemy. I’ve even had to take really minor supporting characters and upgrade them, or downgrade side characters.
To create very minor supporting characters, I do the same just with way less detail.
Maybe my protag is taking the train and there’s another passenger that’s kind of a rude entitled business guy and we get to see some tasty petty revenge or he just makes a bad day worse. Or there’s a cafe our protag always goes to and there’s this barista she maybe says hi to and shares compliments with who notices a change for better or worse.
These super minor characters I really just make up as I go and as I need. They’re really simple and I like to use them to emphasise a mood I’m going for, to break it up or to highlight just how my POV character is feeling or in denial about.
Like any part of writing , character creation is a skill you can practise and develop over time.
And one part of this skill I am constantly mindful about is making these characters diverse, but respectful. With these simple ideas it’s so easy to slip into harmful stereotypes and I feel writers have a responsibility to be as mindful as we can, to constantly learn and try to do better.
If you made it this far, go get yourself a treat, have some water and feel free to ask more questions if you have any.
Good writing!

You ever get to the point in a show, where you’re not sure if you’re accurately seeing what’s really there, or if there’s so much influence from fandoms and headcanons that it permanently skews your point of view?
I’m still watching Yellowstone, though at this point, I don’t know why. It’s edging towards Game of Thrones level of “There Are No Likeable Characters Why Am I Watching This?”
I used to really like Beth. Honestly, I did. But the more I rewatched it, and the more that the story progresses, the more I just want to slap the shit out of her, because she is a modern day Antigone, and it’s driving me up the wall.
I am more than willing to admit that a huge chunk of that is because I personally hate the narrative of the only love you can have is for your spouse, or your biological family. Like somehow sharing DNA or a bed is the only way you can ‘truly’ love someone. Because fuck that narrative. I don’t see my biological family except once every 20 years (a few, next time I see them, will be their funeral, because they’re twats). My godchildren have no biolgical ties to me whatsoever, and my parents treat them like their grandchildren. I love them as if they were my own. I have never, ever wanted biological kids but I want to adopt at some point, and I will go to jail for assault and battery if anyone ever tried to tell me the vile crap they spew on TV shows regarding adoption.
But at this point, I want Beth dead. I want her dead, and I don’t want a miracle walk away, because I draw the line at threatening children, especially toddlers. I don’t give a fuck what happened - this does not make the case of ‘Well, Beth would be nicer if she had her own kids’ because we’ve seen she absolutely would not. She’s undiagnosed schizophrenic psychopath at this point. The beginning of the season she’s telling her father he needs to move on from his wife, which is fucking hilarious given that she has sabotaged every attempt at a relationship her father has like some deranged Elektra complex with the justification that ‘they’re not my mother, and they can never compare’ (up to and including arranging to have one of the women thrown into prison for 10 years). She has a husband who loves unconditionally, and has point blank said he doesn’t want kids, he doesn’t even like dogs. She winds up with a teenager that comes to live at the ranch that desperately wants her to be his mom, she has a job whenever she needs one, her father loves her and still - she is a fucking horrible human being. The kid she ‘adopts’ - she and Rip throw him in the basement, and the first time she gets mad at him, she assaults him in a store, and another mother films her and threatens to call CPS (which she should’ve anyways) and the mother is shown as the nosy-busybody Karen who should mind her own business. Beth has the patience of a honey badger on meth. She has zero impulse control. None of which would magically be fixed if she had a biological child.
But that seems to be where the narrative is heading. Like oh, it’s because of her brother that she’s this upset/unhinged/self-loathing....if ONLY SHE COULD REPRODUCE, SHE WOULD BE FULFILLED. Are. You. Fucking. Kidding me. And everything in the fandom is how great Beth is, and how relatable she is, and then going through fanfic, the she’s written so completely out of character you would assume that it was a mis-labelled AU, and it makes me wonder if we’re watching the same show. If the character they’re writing is what they identify with, they’re not the same person, and the more I watch the show trying to see what they see, the more I know we’re not watching the same thing.
At this point, if Jamie doesn’t eventually snap and kill her or at least hit her with the car, I will be amazed.

Pairings: Matt Murdock x M!reader
Warnings: unedited, reader drinks and smokes and tries to kiss matt while under influence.
Summary: Reader with BPD has Matt as their fp
Matt and I had known each other since college, us both having had the same psych 101 class. Meeting him then made it so I could look past most of his faults, but ever since that first month, I could hardly tell if he had any faults at all. The way I feel about him bordered on obsession, it is obsession; the way I feel about him is unhealthy. I have felt this way for roughly ten years now, being there for practically everything that mattered.
I perk up from my chair beside him, I think he was calling my name.
"You alright?"
He looks worried, I feel terrible for worrying him but part of me revels in the attention. I nodded my head simply, stating I was tired, the case I was helping on went on for a while last night was all. Worry for me, worry for me, worry for me runs through my head like a disease. Matt just smiles.
"You know, you don't technically work for us, it's a wonder why you still help. Not that I'm unhappy, obviously. Having someone read out the files rather than listening to a robot is... helpful."
helpful god. I smile. I want to kiss you. I feel like I have been in his grasp for practically ever by now.
I just nod at him. I'd rather help than see him and Foggy scrounge around for hours while I sit on my lazy ass doing nothing at home. It helps me stay active, I say. Matt just shrugs, your smile is everything to me is all I can think while I stare at his shining teeth. As much as I hate to admit it, him being unable to see me has made my heart grow fonder. I can stare at him as much as I please, except, of course, when Foggy or Karen take notice.
“The work, if we may?”
I hear Karen giggle. So far, to my knowledge, she is the only one that is aware of my so-called tendencies. God I don’t know what I would do if Matt ever found out. I want to tell him, obviously, but I worry he'll respond with disgust or resentment. He's not the resentment type, not for anything like this, but it still is something that lingers for me.
“Come on Karen, just a break for the night won’t hurt. We can head down to the bar, Foggy’s already half asleep and it seems he-” Matt points at me, “is too.”
Karen sighs, running her hands through her hair, and agrees to take a break. She’s a worse workaholic than Matt but I don’t blame her, she’s rather good at what she does too.
At the bar I’m already six shots in of straight vodka. I’ve always been a lightweight so I'm already past hammered and am beginning to border on blackout. All four of us are playing what seems to be 8 ball but Foggy keeps throwing in different rules almost definitely to fuck with me and Matt. I see Karen helping Matt line up his next shot and almost puke in jealousy. The way her face is flushed pink makes me green in envy. It should be me, it should be me, it should have been me. I take a breath and another shot and I’m fine. I don’t think I can drive home tonight. I say I’ll be right back and go outside and light up a cigarette.
After a few minutes, I hear the door and the familiar sound of a cane tap tap tapping against the wall and ground.
“I could smell your cigarette from all the way inside.”
I mumble a sort of apology but laugh half way through at the idea of him even being able to do that. I make a joke about it being a superpower and suddenly Matt goes silent, but only for a moment. His face twitches out of his smile but he regains his composure and just laughs.
“I wish.”
He chokes out, coughing on the smoke.
I beg Matt to take me home. It comes out as more of a sob than I’d prefer but it’s fine. Matt just sighs and nods. Why do you seem so tired of me? I snuff out my cigarette and head back inside, wobbling all the while. I gather my things and say my goodbyes, Karen sees Matt leaving with me and winks, this all goes right over Foggy’s head.
Walking home with him is perfect, he’s perfect, I need you.
“What?”
I shake my head up, the question sobering within itself. I ask what he means.
“You said you needed me?”
He sounds confused. Are you disgusted? I think he might be. I mumble out a sorry, unable to even make a coherent defense. I slur out a question I can’t remember.
“Yeah I know.”
What? What did I ask?
“I know you have… feelings… for me.”
Oh. Fuck.
I notice we take a left where we usually take a right and ask where we’re going.
“I’m taking you to my place, if that’s alright. I want to keep an eye on you. You drank a lot.”
He’s worried, he’s worried, he’s worried, and I’m glad.
Finally in the apartment, he practically drags me up the stairs and we both laugh all the way up, but for some reason it feels tense. I think I’m obsessed with you. It came out jumbled, it wasn’t supposed to come out at all but I caught it right at the last word, just not in time. Matt doesn’t respond. He helps me lay down on the couch and sits next to me.
“I don’t know how to respond to that. I like you, I do, but I know how this works for you and I don’t want you to get hurt.”
I’ll get more hurt if you do nothing, I announce louder than intended. I ask to kiss him, I beg to kiss him. Maybe if he’s as drunk as I am, he will.
“No. I’m sorry.”
I practically sob, I should just kiss him while he’s so close to me, who cares if I’m drunk. He cares, He Cares. The last reasonable part of my brain whispers at me to stop, so I don’t.
I whisper how sorry I am, Matt says he knows. I lay down in his lap and he caresses my hair, he kisses me on the forehead. I want you here I want you here I want you here Please just say yes.
I feel myself drifting and I feel horrible. Just kiss me.
I sob into his lap, I feel manipulative for this. I feel my eyelids grow heavier, and just as I feel myself drifting to sleep, Matt tells me
“Tomorrow, maybe, if you feel the same.”
And I smile.

thoughts on the new daisy jones and the six episodes? honestly just need you to voice thoughts on how mediocre/bad this adaptation is lmao
Mediocre is a good word. It's not like, OFFENSIVELY bad, but it definitely isn't good, and I keep thinking of how it feels like a Lifetime series with... somewhat more of a budget? But You season 1 was on Lifetime, and it didn't look this... bleh (and was miles ahead in terms of writing and performance).
I'll break down my issues:
--On the surface, it's a faithful adaptation, but it actually loses so much nuance. It tricks you into thinking it's got the book by hitting the story beats, but in reality it doesn't seem to accomplish what the story was telling you at all ("TJR was involved!" authors are almost always involved on some level, doesn't mean their voices are heard/she's getting a fat check from this, so I don't blame her if some selling out is involved).
As someone who loved the love triangle (it's one of my favorites, ever) in the book... The book was also a lot more than the triangle. There was more on music making (and not hokey Glee-esque "let's close our eyes and bop a little" moments). There was more on addiction (the scene where Daisy is walking around, stepping on glass and bleeding and PARTYING while Billy thinks "she looks like she knows how to have fun" is toned down to "Daisy is by the pool slurring a little" lmao). There was more on toxic masculinity (there were SHADES of Billy seeming like Billy when he got pissed at Daisy in episode 6 and demanding a million retakes, but like... Billy was a dick about controlling the musical output to EVERYONE, not just Daisy, because Billy had some alpha male toxicity that stemmed from his need for control to maintain sobriety AND his daddy issues). It's all beats, no nuance.
--Lol they have BUTCHERED Karen. Karen is now a NLOG who wants to surf to show Graham how much cooler she is than the UNCOOL GIRL who LIKES BARRY MANILOW (a perfectly nice young lady who seemed FUN). I think they're weaving in Karen and Daisy instead of Karen and Camila, because you know. Bad music bitches > stay at home moms, I guess? Never mind that Camila supported Karen through her abortion in the book, which was hugely affirming textually as Camila ISSSS maternity embodied (wonder if they'll include the abortion at all).
--I was big on not needing people experienced with music in these roles before the show came out. Now I wonder if I was wrong? Or if Riley and Sam just SUCK AT IT. (I say this as someone who has liked Sam in other roles, and though I'm less familiar with Riley, I actually did enjoy her in The Lodge, and that role seemed MUCH more suited to her.) Riley does a lot of Stevie mimicry to compensate (how many times shall she flap her arms). Sam does some weird like. Snapping and weaving? Which, I've said this a lot to my friends--I think the show is trying to lean into the Jim Morrison -> Billy thing. Which--I think Jim is one of several artists who influenced Billy's vibe. Lindsey is another one, obviously. The "look" and sex appeal and lost poet vibe of Billy says Morrison, imo; Morrison is what Billy would've been like if Billy did not get on the wagon and stay on it. (Also, check out pics of Morrison and Pamela Courson and try to tell me that TJR didn't think of those visuals with Billy and Daisy and the album cover scene especially--Fleetwood Mac ain't the only influence here). Anyway, suffice to say that Morrison had a distinct performance style that I feel Sam is trying to emulate, along with some Jagger? It's definitely more that than Lindsey, imo. AND HE DOESN'T HAVE THE SWAGGER TO DO IT I'M SORRY.
(Look at his episode 6 hair after they gave him some salt spray for bounce and body and try to tell me they aren't attempting a Morrison Young Lion era vibe.)
So much of the performance scenes read as earnest theater kids versus experienced musicians, several of which are drunk or high in these scenes.
--I hate how much they've made Daisy and Billy explicitly aware of their feelings and like. Confronting them. One thing I loved about the book is that they had this one impetuous, super brief kiss and it like. Ruined the band lmao. Was the beginning of the end. Here it's like, this intentional thing where Daisy is like WHAT ARE WE and he knows and I'm like dude. A huge issue with Billy and Daisy is that she knew they were in love and he kNEW but wouldn't let himself acknowledge it and dead-ass tried to sit there and LIE TO HIS KID'S FACE ABOUT IT LMAO until he was so emotionally wrecked that he had to cop to it. Here it's so. Boring. Juvenile. Camila is taking pics of it, oooh!!!
--Even though they're basicifying Camila, one of the most confident women in literature, into a jealous wife type... Camila is still one of the highlights because Camila Morrone plays her very naturally and has charisma. The biggest highlight is Warren, however, because he is funny and played to perfection, and is the oNLY person in the doc clips that seems like an aging rock star who's still high on pure vibes.
--I've already said this, but to reiterate: the music is mid as hell. Every time they play real music that is good, I weep a little inside.
--Daisy in the book was someone who did obnoxious, narcissistic things... But you were like it's okay, because she seemed genuinely impulsive and also was half to fully zonked the entire time. Here, she seems sober a lot of the time (if Daisy is supposed to be high... it ain't coming through unless Riley is slurring, and believe me, I know what functional drugged people look like) and just like. A calculated asshole lmao. Like, the scene where she jumped ahead in the performance wasn't charming or wacky, it was obnoxious. She's supposed to be a charismatic if problematic celeb. You should think back on her behavior and go mmm that was fucked but not initially clock it as hard because she's so mystifying. Also, Riley and Sam have very little chemistry, so I think that while Daisy's antics in the book were called out by Billy, there was this lens of "Billy is madder than he normally would be because he wants to fuck her" that is lacking here.
--What is pacing. Six episodes in and they've barely performed. Daisy and Billy should've been writing songs together as of episode 3. Nah, we needed to slow things down for the riveting CLINGY JEALOUS GIRL KAREN KAREN moment.
--Very cheap wigs, meh "Camila is dying" makeup in the present day lens.
--It feels very much like Daisy has been toned down so that the average girl can project onto her and feel validated by her. Daisy in the books was on HARD shit and was not doing well. At all. She pulled it off, but I'll go back to the Morrison/Courson inspo--she was 27 Club-bound, and if Billy had fallen off the wagon he would've had a similar fate... Which is why they could not be together. So much of the book to me is about the complexity of love; of how you love people for different reasons, and how sometimes, you give up what you love a little more because there's something you also love fully that is bETTER FOR YOU.
Like, I think the show is leaning hard into "man, if only Billy and Daisy had been able to meet earlier, twin flames" while the book was like "Billy and Daisy were in love, but they would've died if they'd been together, and also Billy gave up Daisy and music but fuck shit he also had an amazing woman he adored and kids, so choosing life and 'losing something' isn't actually a loss". The show feels very "ooh wish fulfillment" whereas the book felt emotionally real.
Anyway, I think it's pretty weak.

I had no idea when I started this account that I would turn into such a Byron stan -- no regrets, to be clear! I'm just so surprised.
So naturally I'm thinking about how he would feel after Phoenix Gate happened. Specifically about his feelings regarding Anabella and having to claim he would be loyal to her, even though his heart remains with Rosaria and he considers her to be the most vile person alive. And I was wondering like, what's the difference between swearing fealty or loyalty? (This question came up while writing a reply to a thread and I went down a rabbit hole). And when I looked it up I found this quote that just *clenches fist so tight it breaks* sums up Byron's feelings so much:
“Loyalty is the most perfect form of mutual respect. It is a bond that goes two ways, and that is why it endures. Fealty, on the other hand, must be endured. It is based on power, and ends the moment the one who commands it no longer has a grip on the one who is shackled by it.” - Karen Tumulty
Loyalty is what he felt for Elwin, his brother who he had the utmost trust in and love for. It went two ways not only because Byron was his brother but because Elwin had great respect and care for the people he ruled. His loyalty was to them as well, which is why he agonized so much over how to best serve them and care for the most vulnerable people in Rosaria. He was dedicated to liberating Bearers and changing society's views of their humanity and worth for the better. His unconditional positive regard for everyone in Rosaria made Byron love and respect Elwin all the more. The two-way loyalty endures and only grows stronger with time.
Anabella, by contrast -- she must be endured. She is a painful reminder of the absolute heartbreak and destruction she wrought. She's a looming threat of what will happen if you speak out against her, and she had no problem getting rid of others who remained loyal to Rosaria -- and they weren't even Elwin's brother. It's so interesting that she let him live. His talk with Clive and Jill when they reunite makes it seem as though Anabella wasn't always so terrible; maybe she was judgmental and haughty, but they weren't traits that made her seem like a risk for committing treason. Maybe they even got along well enough at one point? Polite acquaintances? But he says with certainty that she's taken a sharp turn in the wrong direction, as if she was being influenced by something or someone else.
So with Anabella demanding that the remaining inhabitants of the former duchy (and surrounding areas) must swear an oath to her, Byron feels he has no choice. If he were to refuse, the best case scenario would be to lose absolutely everything he has. The worst, of course, would be death. Byron feels great shame over this and in that same scene tells Clive that he wishes he had been as courageous as Elwin always was. But he made a methodical, painful decision that wound up being exactly how he could be brave and help the resistance overthrow Anabella (and Ultima at the helm of it all). He needed to retain his influence, property, and wealth to support the Hideaway and the Cursebreakers. And when push (literally) came to shove, he was more than willing to put his own safety on the line (and he looked so good swinging that axe around wow !! look at that guy).
So, where was I going with this whole thing ?? I nearly lost my train of thought but ok to wrap this up -- if Byron had seen the difference between swearing loyalty and fealty, I think he would have felt worlds better about having to feign support for Anabella. It didn't make him a bad person or a shameful Rosarian. It was a means to an end, a way for him to bide his time while he threw his support behind the people who would liberate Rosaria.

I wondered about that too I was thinking since the bridge collapse is a major catastrophe that it will be 2 episodes but I guess it's because of the show cancellation and thinking its the final season besides they actually never really had major calls in s6 so budget was really affected
Hi Nonnie, thank you for this ask!
I feel like if so many people are raising an eyebrow at the bridge collapse not being a two part call, that says something. It just did not feel quite right to me, even though there were moments in it that did affect me. But the same moments I think would have worked even better if this was spread out. If we could have had more time to see the impact of these moments on our firefighters. Maybe even interlace these moments with flashbacks to their personal lives. Think about how much more impactful Hen's bits in the call would have been if we got to see her thinking about her last conversations with Karen during it, for example. Or Buck rescuing Eddie, how much more poignant would it have been if it got injected with flashbacks to their domestic joy with Chris? Or a conversation bringing up the will?
We did have at least one big call (Buck's lightning strike) where they did the right thing and spread it out across two eps. I also am not sure about the budget... If they thought they were over, wouldn't it make more sense not to hold back and spend everything they had left on the last ep?
I honestly have no idea how the possible cancellation of 911 influenced 618. I can see three possible scenarios:
They always knew it could be cancelled, went in planning for this ep to be the last one, and made zero changes after finding out that they got picked up by ABC, so we watched the show finale as they planned it, no constraints involved.
They knew the show could be cancelled, but felt pretty confident that they'd get picked up, planning s6 as if it would be. At some point they realized the possibility of cancellation is real and hastily adapted the end of 6b so 618 would be the show finale. When they did get picked up, no changes were made 'coz that would be the second time around, so we got the rushed finale version.
They knew the show could be cancelled and decided to plan for it, building s6 as if it's the last season. At some point they realized the possibility of being picked up is much greater than they thought and hastily adapted 618 to leave stuff for the next seasons. What we saw is an adapted version of the show finale, meant to have us wanting to continue, since there are still some issues, like Buck once more making the wrong romantic choices.
I have NO IDEA which one of these we witnessed! What do you think, Nonnie? Your guess is as good as mine. But since I really don't think we'll know until someone there chooses to tell us (and if someone does, please update me), I'm gonna put this matter aside and stop wondering about it, I'll just feel very grateful this is not 911's finale.
Thank you for chiming in! I hope this helps. As always, here is my ask tag. xoxox
