I bought a new lens this week, so I decided to go out and test it. I saw several landscape videos about simplifying overcomplicated landscape scenes, and because my closest hilly area is Uetliberg, I thought it was worth the shot (pun intended). The weather forecast claimed some strange phenomenon; there were no clouds, but it looked like mist. And what's better than a sunrise with some fog in the valleys? Lol, I was so wrong. The tildes don't mean nice mist in the valley, but it's haze, so everything is completely blurry. Failure teaches success, so I'll be smarter next time. Even though the light was terrible, I took some shots that I really liked.

24/04/2023-Flowers at Lakeside and home 

Pictures taken in this set today: 1. Beautiful flowers on the balcony in a splash of sunlight. 2. Wintercress that looks lovely and tall in the flower bed area out the front on the way to Lakeside. 3. Crab apple flowers in the garden at Lakeside near the visitor centre. 4. Forget-me-not nearby. 5 and 6. Beautiful wild garlic which I was pleased to see a bit of on the edge of the woods in the area by Monks Brook as I was looking for them after seeing my first of the year at Stanpit Marsh yesterday. 7. Marsh marigold nearby, possibly my first at Lakeside which was a dazzling sight. 8. Comfrey, a revelation of this week so far one I don’t often see at Lakeside as like it so often does in spring this part of the walk allowed me to unearth some gems. 9 and 10. The ultimate gem of today, a patch of wood anemone on the edge of the woods which stood out strongly as I walked. It was a delight to be immersed in these pristine forest floor spring time wonders. It’s one of those things like the greater stitchwort here on Friday with lots to look for and places to go I’m not sure where we’d have necessarily been in the right habitat to see them this spring so to have them at Lakeside where I’d not seen them before was perfect. 

Other floral highlights on the lunch time walk were garlic mustard, spurge in the garden area, lesser celandine still adorning the area between the woods and Monks Brook and a wealth of shiny cowslips in their real peak days here still. On a mostly rainy day these flowers provided much vibrant colour which I was entranced by.

April 2022 was a mostly dry month, very little rain. Come April and spring is well under way. Had a good few scouts through woodland on the high and low weald in East Sussex looking for that bluebell shot.
