Happy Valentine's day, my dear friend! If you believe the cats celebrate Valentine's or something equivalent, what do you think they'd be doing for their significant others to treat them?
Happy Valentine's Day to you as well, my dear friend!
I do believe that the Cats would celebrate the day in their own way and that different couples would spend some quality time together. I do tend to think that while the day itself may not be exciting, the evening would bring out more of a celebration.
I can see the Tribe getting all together (or as much as possible, maybe some of them have other plans and someone like Old Deuteronomy would be absent) for dinner, courtesy of Bustopher Jones, so that everyone can feel the love from him in his own special way. He wants everyone to be happy and what better way than to get everyone together on his terms for once. A lot of smiles and laughs from the whole group and everyone will leave fulfilled in a multitude of ways. Bustopher would not stay for too long after, maybe he has plans or another group of non-Jellicle Cats to feed, but he makes sure to give Jennyanydots a little token of his appreciation. This would entail something practical that he knows she would use, like a bobbin of fine thread. Once everyone is done with their meal is when the more one-on-one split offs would occur.
However, I think a large portion of the Tribe would stay together and have a smaller party, with Munkustrap and Bombalurina organizing something to do with the Kittens, together with many of the adult Cats. They would have Rum Tum Tugger and Mistoffelees take charge for a dance oriented activity with some fun lighting. Coricopat and Tantomile would have little 'love potions' that they made for fun, with Cassandra swearing that they truly work (you can trust her! She would not lie to you ;) ). Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer would help create Valentine's cards to give to everyone, which would be distributed later on in a very discreet manner so no one knows who sent who anything. I see some of the younger Cats holding affection for each other, with some feeling it quite strongly, but afraid to say it (Electra is a mess inside, but stays collected in front of Etcetera. One day, she thinks to herself.). All in all, the younger Cats would have an evening full of fun while certain adults had their private time with their significant other.
What each couple does depends on who they are:
Plato would be the one to 'borrow' a pink rose (because it reminds him of her pink paw pads and nose) from a floralist to bring to Victoria as soon as he could, along with a smaller gift of some sort, like a bow or a stuffed mouse to play with. Victoria would remind Plato that she does not really need anything, but it will not stop him from trying to give her something special. They would enjoy the dinner with the Tribe and then go for a nice walk together through town to look at the lights, settling down somewhere quiet to eventually look at the stars. A quick dance together under the moonlight, followed by some talking about anything they think of, like how the night sky shines brighter when they are together. They would sit closely, partly facing each other to look into each other's eyes (a lot of comforting slow blinks, all romantic like) until Victoria would get up to move directly beside (and slightly on top of) Plato. Sharing the embrace of one another, they would sit in relative silence, with only their combined purring making any noise. Once it is late enough, Plato would take Victoria home to make sure she arrived safely.
Alonzo and Demeter would also enjoy the group dinner and then go to a higher spot in the Junkyard to sit together quietly after, and perhaps watch the group activities below from afar. I do not see either of them saying much, but they would not necessarily need to. I can see Demeter grooming Alonzo at some point which helps her to feel at ease and grounded, and he appreciates the closeness it affords. Once the activities with the Kittens dies down, they would watch the stars as well together, letting the silence speak to the calm that they now have in their lives and with the Tribe. They would eventually return to the dens below after the others have went to sleep.
Not part of the Tribe celebrations, Asparagus would sneak on to the Midnight Mail with Skimbleshanks to enjoy an unique night of watching his partner in action. Their downtime would involve enjoying any festivities and food found on the train and watching the countryside quickly roll by out of the windows of one of the passenger cars. They would settle in together in the luggage van for a catnap or two, until at least Skimbleshanks would jump into action anytime they reached a new station. Asparagus appreciates the youthful attitude Skimbleshanks displays on the job, and Skimbleshanks would love the company he has, excited to show off how good he is at his position.
Lastly, Jennyanydots and Jellylorum would partake in the group dinner, also making sure that Gus was brought in and included. After getting Gus to bed, the two would rest together in their den, tending to their hobbies and chatting about the day, and getting somewhat nostaglic about the time that has past since they were young Queens. Eventually curling up together in a ball of two Cats as one, they would sleep peacefully until the next morning. No late night activities for the Gumbie Cat tonight!
Thank you so much for the ask, Jemi! <3

who in the junkyard do u go to for gossip? who would u get high with? who gives the best advice? and whos best for napping with (assuming munk isnt available)?
Bomba, Misto, Alonzo and surprisingly TUMBLEBRUTUS are big gossips. They always know what's going on before anyone else and trade secrets like handshakes. There's always something or other to hear from them. Though you have to work harder to get it out of Alonzo than the others.
I don't partake but Bomba, Tugger and Rumple would be the right cats to ask to get high with. They would splurge on the good stuff and have a long and chill smoke session with lots of laughs.
Jellylorum consistently gives the best advice, but Skimbleshanks is an admirable candidate, as well as Gus Jr! Alonzo is pretty good as well, though he will not sugar-coat anything, so don't go to him if you want things broken to you gently. It's tough love from him.
My personal go-to nap partner is Mungojerrie because he loves to cuddle and sleep close together and he's also one of those noodle cats when he falls asleep, just goes absolutely limp, and it's cute and funny and easy to move him around if you start getting uncomfortable. He'll always have something funny to say before going to sleep too.
Overall though Tugger would be a fantastic nap partner because he's big and warm and he's got that fluffy mane you can disappear into. Doesn't fidget much either. Jennyanydots is a good nap candidate too. She just makes you feel safe, and she'll pet your ears until you fall asleep if you let her. But really most of the tribe is good for platonic cuddling. <3

Tumblr media Tumblr media
so i’ve been thinking about these two moments in Tugger’s song for a while, and i just realized today how well they play into one of my main hcs!
I’ve posted before about how my hc for Alonzo, Tumblebrutus, and Pouncival is that they’re brothers, but Alonzo had to leave in order to find a better place to raise his brothers. Tumblebrutus and Pouncival became lost, however, and Alonzo spent forever searching for them until he finally found them and brought them to the Junkyard.
WELL
My other hc is that Plato was also a street cat before joining the Jellicles and meeting Victoria. So Plato’s really the only other cat in the tribe who Alonzo, Tumblebrutus, and Pouncival can really relate to.
Tumblebrutus doesn’t talk much about the Time Before with Alonzo or anyone else, but Plato’s always there with an ear in case the younger tom wants to talk, and Tumblebrutus does talk to Plato. He doesn’t want to make Alonzo feel guilty for leaving, because Tumblebrutus knows that Alonzo didn’t mean for them to become lost for so long.
In return, Plato teaches Tumblebrutus and Pouncival how to dance and becomes something of a mentor to them.
He also understands when Tumblebrutus starts hoarding food in his and Pouncival’s den, or when Pouncival starts to stick to Tumblebrutus’ side like glue and won’’t stop snuggling into his brother’s side, or when the two brothers hear a certain sound on a quiet night and immediately freeze up.
Plato doesn’t say anything. He just brings some fresh food to Tumblebrutus, because he knows what it’s like to root through garbage for his next meal, he allows Pouncival to snuggle into his back in the tiniest ball because he knows what it’s like to not be warm enough, and he asks Munkustrap to tell a story, because he knows that a sudden sound in the dark can never be a good thing.
So when Alonzo isn’t around, or he’s doing Grown Up Cat Things, Tumblebrutus and Pouncival know that they have someone else that they can go to, someone else who understands.

Ok,so i was talking to my brother about my Cats headcanons and imaginary production and we ended up making a list of how old everyone is, thinking of it as them having similar lifespans as humans. I'm also adding a bit of their personality and relationship with the other Jellicles.
From youngest to oldest:
Ectetera: 8 years old
Electra: 10 years old
Jemima: 12 years old, the three of girls love playing together, but Jemima also spends time with the older kittens because they're a little more mature and she's more perceptive than almost everyone else.
Pouncival: 13 years old, he's old enough to hang out with the bid kits, but young enough to still enjoy being treated like a child. He's also big for his age so it's funny to watch him play with the younger kittens.
Tumblebrutus: 14 years old, he's Pouncival's brother and they get into trouble together, but Tumblebrutus enjoys spending time with the older cats since he's a lot more mature than Pouncival.
Victoria: 15 years old, she loves the younger kittens and playing with them. She's also at the age where her idol and example for the perfect boyfriend is Tugger, but she's still older and more reserved. She's super protective of Jemima because she's smaller than everyone else.
Plato: 16 years old, he's also super protective of the younger girls. He helps Victoria take care of them when they're playing together. He's not jealous of the attention Victoria gives Tugger, instead seeing him as an example to follow.
George: 17 years old, I don't have much for him, but he definitely tries to act more like the adults and prefers spending time on his own rather than with the other kittens.
Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer: 20 years old. Their idol is Mistoffelees because he's the closest to them in age, and he's responsible and smart so they try to follow him and do everything he does.
Mistoffees: 21 years old. We already established he's a child prodigy. He's skilled and smart, so he gets a lot of responsibilities around the junkyard. His favorite job is the unofficial care taker of Mungo and Teazer.
Alonzo: 23 years old. He's slightly younger than Tugger and loves playing with the older kittens, but he admires Munkustrap and will go out of his way to help make sure everyone is safe.
Rum Tum Tugger: 24 years old (same as me!). He loves the attention he gets from the younger cats and acts as the leader for the troublemakers, but he always keeps everyone safe. Extremely perceptive of the others' comfort levels, he makes sure to spend time alone with Mistoffelees making them close friends and building mutual understanding between them.
Casandra: 25 years old. also don't have much on her. She's probably good friends with Tugger and Mistoffelees as the second closest friend they have.
Demeter: 26 years old. She's mature and has as many responsibilities as Mistoffelees so they tend to work together a lot in their daily tasks. Because of her past experience with Macavity, she stays away from almost everyone when they gather in big groups (more the three is a bit much for her).
Munkustrap: 26 years old. we all know him, and we all love him. The protector of the tribe and the most responsible out of everyone. He's forced to delegate work by Misto, Demeter, and Alonzo.
Bombalurina: 27 years old. She admits Tugger is a bit young for her, but she also knows Tugger is more mature than he cares to show. She makes sure Munkustrap doesn't overwork himself as much as she makes sure Demeter doesn't do the same trying to help Munkus. She might have started a secret cat spa for them, and the only reason Mistoffelees doesn't know is because he disappears anytime she tries to make him stop working.
Macavity: 29 years old. He scary and a loner. He's mad that Demeter chose Munkustrap over him, but he also knows she would have never loved him. He tries to scare Demeter because he's angry, not because he actually wants to force her into a relationship.
Skimbleshanks: 30 years old. He's one of the oldest cats, and takes his job at the railway seriously, but he's at the point in life where he rather have fun with his time instead of stressing over what might happen in the future. He's the cool, young uncle that plays with the kittens and is the only one who can make the young adults smile and relax for a while. Everyone has fun whenever Skimble is around.
Jennyanydots: 38 years old. She's the mom of the group and can make everyone be quiet and behave with one look. She also enjoys her time and her youth, reminding herself to relax and be an example of good habits for the younger cats.
Jellylorum: 40 years old. I see her as the scary aunt, if she was older maybe the grandma of the tribe. She's strict and a bit of a perfectionist. She takes care of the younger cats, but would rather if they could be quieter. She takes care of Gus because she's the only one who still remembers him in his prime as fondly as Gus himself.
Bustopher Johns: 45 years old. He was, and still is, the flirt of the older adults, like Tugger is now. He's also seen as the responsible dad of the tribe, and everyone makes sure to be in their best behavior when he's around. Especially Mistoffelees because he was chosen as Bustopher's apprentice as the most educated cat in the tribe.
Grizzabella: (was) 50 years old. She was once the most caring, motherly cat around, and the young adult either mourn her exile, or they're still hurt because she abandoned them. Mistoffelees, as I said before, doesn't really remember her, but does feel sad whenever he thinks about her.
Old Deuteromy: 70 years old. Everyone secretly calls him grandpa whenever Munkustrap and Tugger aren't around. They wouldn't mind, but they think it's weird people call their dad "grandpa." He loves everyone single member of the tribe, and he cares for them equally. However, he has a soft spot for Munksutrap, Tugger, and Mistoffelees. Muskustrap works too hard so Old D doesn't have to, and he appreciates everything his son does for him. He knows Tugger is a drama queen, and he encourages it since he was a drama queen in his younger years. Mistoffelees spend a lot of time away from the tribe, so everyone else needs time to include him in the daily activities of the junkyard, but Old D doesn't want Mistoffelees feeling like is being rejected and will spend time telling him about different kinds of magic and praising any improvements Mistoffelees makes, even if it's doing 25 conjuring turns instead of 24.
Gus: 80 years old, maybe closer to 90. He's the real grandpa of the tribe. He loves to tell stories of his acting career to anyone who will listen, which usually ends up being Munkustrap, Tugger, Skimbleshanks, Mistoffelees, and Alonzo, his unofficial Raffish Crew. Jellylorum loves to praise his legacy as a great actor, but the "Raffish Crew" love to act out his stories just to see him smile again. He is also the reason Munkustrap wrote "The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles," he even helped Munkus write the character of the Rumpus Cat as a modern, and nicer, version of Growltiger.

SPOILERS FOR THAT FIC THAT DOESNT EXIST YET!!
Notes were written in March:
OKAY so, very VERY quick summary:
- Mac and Munk are supposed to work as a coalition, but Macavity wants more power over the tribe and Munk won't give it to him
- Mac has been establishing a clan without Munk knowing about it on the side: This is where he picks up Bombalurina and Alonzo from the streets
- Jerrie is found trespassing on Macavity's territory after losing all his siblings, and he kind of has nowhere else to go - so he falls in with that group. Macavity spends a lot of time manipulating him.
- Demeter and Rumpleteazer (who I HC as Etcetera's older sister) are somewhat sympathetic to Macavity, making them more vulnerable to his persuasions
- Grizabella is mother to all three of the brothers, but is more sympathetic to Macavity because she thinks hes a stronger leader than Munkustrap. She works in the shadows with Macavity to establish his clan.
- A confrontation happens at the ball (the first ball Tugger takes part in and has his coming-of-age dance at), which leads to a divisive split occurring between some of the tribe members; Tugger subsequently feels guilty over the divide believing it was his fault
- Eventually, the coalition completely breaks down, and Macavity leaves - convincing Rumpleteazer and Demeter to come with him
- Once they're at Mac's clan, Demeter is quickly introduced to the rest of his harem and is expected to play along. Bombalurina defends her when she denies Macavity's advances and is swiftly punished for it, but eventually Demeter falls in line and accepts the treatment as something she just has to endure.
- Rumpleteazer is too feisty and utterly refuses to be part of Macavity's harem, and so he gives her to the henchcats, expecting them to sort of just have their way with her and dispose of her - turns out, Teazer is very headstrong and quickly adapts into a really valuable asset
- When she joins the henchcats, she meets Jerrie and the two kind of hit it off as friends, Teazer is actually quite protective of Jerrie, because she sees how often he's thrown about by Macavity - she's the one who ultimately convinces him to stand up for himself and helps to build his confidence. She’s ultimately the only true friend he’s ever had until this point who has never wanted to get anything out of him.
- Grizabella kind of acts as a sort of… I dunno like a “mothering” figure to Macavity’s harem? She has a complex relationship with Demeter and Bombalurina. both of them remind her of herself. She resents Bomba for her boldness and independent nature, but kind of empathises with Demeter. She cant really explain it herself but that's just how she feels
- Alonzo and Bomba look out for each other a lot, and do a lot of behind the scenes reconnaissance for Macavity. Alonzo discovers that Mac has plans to torch the junkyard, and Bomba tells Rumpleteazer about it because she knows Teazer’s younger sister still lives there. This spurs on Teazer’s desire to escape even more.
- Demeter also finds out that she's pregnant, and it's the last straw for all of them that they have to get out of there, or else Dem's kid isn't gonna stand a chance at living a normal life. They no longer care what happens to them, their only goal now is to get Demeter and her child OUT of this hell.
- Grizabella is constantly talking down to them and treating them like shit, but when she and Demeter have a private conversation and she discovers demeter is pregnant, she tells her about a secret passage way in the underground that she can use to escape. Griz might be haughty and stubborn, but she doesn’t want to see Demeter’s child be subjected to the same abuse they go through every day.
Pre-Climax
- Griz doesn't expect the entire group to desert them though, and when she finds out that Dem, Bomba, Lonz, Jerrie, and Teazer ALL plan on escaping, she rats them out and almost gets them killed
- They do all escape tho, and go back to the Junkyard, whilst also letting Munk know what's going to happen so they can prepare for an attack
Climax
- When Munk and Mac finally fight - the ex-Macavity group prove themselves to the Junkyard by fighting him off alongside the other Jellicles.
Epilogue segment
- Obviously Munk adopts the role of being Jemima's father figure, and although he and Demeter don't become mates they still end up very close and he’s an important part of Jemima’s life
- When Jemima finally gets older, she’s able to see how badly the entire experience left her family. Sometimes she’s afraid that she’s just a lingering, painful reminder of the horrible time her mother had there.
- Jerrie has the hardest time integrating out of everyone, because he's never lived in this sort of safe community before - but Teazer is a big support for him - he also gets on really well with Cettie as a sort of brother-in-law figure.
- Lonz obviously falls in love with Munkustrap because he has authority figure issues and Munk helps him understand what love is supposed to look like
- And Bomba and Tugger become proper besties
also, this for me is my set up on why Grizabella is hated and not accepted back. Yes, Demeter and Rumpleteazer left too, but they were young, hell, Teazer was barely an adult, they were manipulated and when they *did* come back, they'd brought back vital information with them and saved the tribe.
Grizabella ratted them out, tried to get them killed. She left, and only returned after Mac himself threw her out of the tribe for telling them about the escape tunnel in the first place.
Everyone rejects her, hates her. Except for Demeter.
Demeter is one of the only cats to EVER show a hesitant acceptence of Griz at the beginning. She clearly WANTS to touch Griz, to look her in the eye, to THANK her for telling her where they could escape, but remembering what she did... she just cant do it. (Bomba seems to sympathise with Demeter’s conflicted emotions - and never forces her away from Grizabella. She knows that Demeter is capable of making her own decision here, but she doesn’t want her to be in danger.)
Without Grizabella’s initial help, they could all still be at the compound - Jemima could have been born into it. Their lives could be entirely different and much worse. Ultimately, regardless of if Griz changed her mind, without her help they'd all probably be dead. That’s how Demeter sees it, and while the others struggle to come to terms with that - it’s her thought process.

little fanfic inspired by @emmikay and @i-overanalyze-musicals <3
quick disclaimer that I'm not a good writer but I really wanted to make this into a fic so here y'all go
Munkustrap never liked fighting. In fact, he despised having to do so, but here he was, battling his older brother, in front of the whole, entire everybody.
Although Munkustrap was a strong cat who got some hits in, Macavity was also just as powerful, even making a deep, blood inducing scratch reining down from Munkustrap's chest to his stomach. However, seeing so much blood everywhere didn't even phase the grey tabby. He was used to seeing those sorts of things from previous fights protecting the tribe. It was a serious injury, but the last thing Munkustrap needed was to be a burden. Everyone else was more important to him.
Other then that, Munkustrap received his own fair share of scratches, punches, kicks and scrapes, all that burned against his already bruised and battered body. It was unbearable.
He collapsed to the ground soon after, broken glass from the junkyard's objects already cutting into him. Munkustrap was awake, sort of, but his eyes were sealed tight and he laid there limp. The sounds of frazzled chatter filled his aching ears.
"Is he okay?!"
"We need to get him somewhere safe right away!"
"Why is Munkustrap asleep?! Wake up!"
Hearing the cries of the kittens, queens and toms only made Munk want to spring up and comfort them, but exhaustion and injury weighed down on him, keeping him from moving a muscle, minus the occasional twitch. The frantic mutterings of Munkustrap's fellow Jellicles began to fade away, until it was all just muffled garble. One eye half open, all he could focus on was the unsteady rise and fall of his chest and his own waning heartbeat. Finally, the cat was unconscious, but the fight against Macavity continued on through a few other toms.
. . .
He woke up.
Munkustrap had woken up in a little fort made of some tattered sheets and broken things, before the memories of last night struck him like a kick to the face. A few possible teard swelled up to his face, and he had to rub his eyes once or twice.
He looked down at himself, getting an eyeful of the little "masterpiece" Macavity had seemed to painted on him. Munkustrap gazed dryly at his biggest wound, the enormous long cut on the underside of his body, feeling lightheaded.
Strangely enough, Munkustrap had seemed to be wrapped in bandages, but they were all dirty, scrapped, obviously used by someone before. He wasn't mad, by any means, since he knew that bandages were hard to come by and these were probably the cleanest ones to be found.
Munkustrap decided to get up. He had a job to do, and no injuries would get in the way of that. He staggered clumsily down, looking for somebody, anybody. When he finally saw a silhouette of another cat, he raced down, almost falling.
It happened to be his best friend, Alonzo.
Munkustrap smiled weakly, and put his arms around the black and white tom.
"Alonzo...I've missed you-"
"Shh." a finger was brought over Munk's lips. "I've missed you too. But you need to rest. Go back to sleep."
Munk gave him a confused look. "Go back to sleep- what do you mean by that? We have work to do!" Alonzo wasn't so quick to give in, though. "No, I have work to do. YOU are hurt and CAN'T do any work."
Munkustrap gave a skeptical look, meaning he was about to go on another ramble about why this is this or how that is that or when this came to be that.
"Alonzo, I am fine. I don't get hurt or sick, I care for the hurt and sickly-"
Before he could finish, Munkustrap almost toppled over and had to lean on his friend for support. "As I was saying- I can at least patrol the junkyard area if you don't want me to fight."
Alonzo reluctantly rolled his eyes and nodded his head. "Alright..."
. . .
So there was Munkustrap, outside, patrolling the junkyard like he did on a normal day. The sun was peeking slightly through the clouds flooding the sky, and the weather did seem decent enough. No danger was lurking, and the junkyard was currently safe. No problems, no trouble, no nothing....is what Munkustrap would've thought when he noticed something: he felt light headed. That was not exactly possible trouble to him, as he continued limping around and looking for any threats.
Then that's where the trouble started.
His legs felt like two measly pieces of string, and his arms felt like two tons that he was dragging with him. Everything around him was so cold, and even Munkustrap got a chill down his spine.
The silver tabby tried to act like he was fine, but at this point, he really knew he wasn't.
Keep going....he thought. I'm almost there....
That was the second time in the junkyard that Munkustrap collapsed to the ground.

2, 30, 4 for jellylorum/alonzo and 7 , 22 and 23 for demelurina
ALONZORUM
2- Who is the most insecure and what makes them feel better?
Jellylorum! She has these moments where she feels as if she left the junkyard, the Jellicles wouldn’t be affected. Whenever she has these moments, Alonzo is there to show her just how special she is and how much everyone loves and need her, especially him.
4- Who can’t keep their hands to themselves?
Alonzo! He always comes up behind Jelly and puts his hands on her hips and waist. And if his hands start to wander across her body in public, Jelly soon puts him in his place! But when they’re lying together in bed at night, Jelly will put her head on his chest and her hands on his thighs since Alonzo curls up around her.
30- Why does it work between them?
The difference between their personalities is huge, but they both want to protect the tribe and each other. Jelly makes sure Alonzo takes care of himself and stays safe while on patrol. Alonzo will always defend Jelly and makes sure that she feels comfortable and happy. They listen to each other and know what makes each other happy
——————
DEMELURINA
7 - What do they get up to on a night out?
They like to go out either to the beach or to the park! They like to watch the sunset while having a picnic. They know it’s cliche but they enjoy it.
22 - Where did their first kiss happen?
In an alleyway! They were dating for a few months just to see if they liked it and as they were walking through the city, heading back to the junkyard, Bomba stopped walking and gently kissed Demeter. That was also the moment they realised that they wanted to be with each other.
23 - Where is their favourite place to be together?
On the balcony in the junkyard. It’s like their own special little den since no one goes up there and they’ve strung fairy lights and blankets all around it. It’s the place they go when they want to be together. Not to talk, just to sit there, perfectly existing in their own little world, together.

10. July | hurt/comfort
*nudges part one (1) into the void because ho boi did this one get away from me*
“... ase stay in the yard, just for one more night. I promise you can leave tomorrow if- ”
Alonzo’s ears perked and swiveled from his sentry post on the tire. He lifted his head in the direction of Munkustrap’s voice, but the silver tabby was still out of sight behind one pile of junk or other.
“Straps, stop.”
The Rum Tum Tugger. Alonzo cocked his head and licked a paw absently as he listened in. The conversation wasn’t necessarily meant for him, but he doubted they thought they were speaking privately. Any cat who’d been in the junkyard a week ago had been bunking down after a swarm of screeching rats- stinking of Macavity’s acrid flame-scented magic- attempted to overrun it and there weren’t many places one could go to be completely unheard.
“I’ve stayed put like a good kitten,” Tugger’s voice continued, “but the last time I was away from the family this long they’d printed out fliers. They’ll make an awful fuss if they think I’ve gone missing again and it’s not like I can explain to them.”
“I know, I know. But... please, Tugs, one more night. I’ll go with you first thing in the morning.”
Tugger and Munkustrap came into Alonzo’s view and paused by the old bed frame. Munkustrap’s body was a line of tension; Tugger seemed oblivious to it. Neither cat seemed aware of him, but Munkustrap knew Alonzo had the watch and Tugger could surely smell him. Alonzo watched curiously. Neither he nor his siblings were new to the tribe anymore, having been taken in almost two years ago, but the Rum Tum Tugger occupied a weird space that Alonzo had yet to understand.
“What, you can’t send someone to babysit me now?” Tugger asked.
He sounded almost amused, though not mocking. Alonzo re-examined and revised his observation: Tugger was purposefully lounging on the bed frame with both paws hooked into his belt and his face held an open, relaxed half-smile. Everything about him was an invitation for Munkustrap to unwind- not that Munkustrap was taking him up on it.
“It’s just... It’s last minute and I added- ” Munkustrap paused, letting his words hang in the air as though putting off inevitable ridicule.
The silence lasted too long. Tugger’s body language changed. His chest heaved visibly with a sigh and the smile melted from his lips. He pushed off from the bed frame and bumped his forehead gently against the Guardian’s. Alonzo felt envy burn at the bottom of his spine. The Maine Coon didn’t show anybody that kind of familiarity- not even Quaxo.
“Straps, just tell me,” Tugger murmured.
Munkustrap gave a tiny, almost pained, smile. “I added a third party to all patrols and I have them going out every two hours. It gives everyone time to have a nap in between watch and patrol.”
The Rum Tum Tugger’s mane ruffled in surprise. “That’s... that’s a lot of extra, Straps.”
“You’re not wrong,” Munkustrap agreed grudgingly. “I can’t help it. I just- I’m so sure that something is going to happen. The swarm wasn’t random but I can’t fathom the intent behind it. It’s driving me batty.”
“Letting some rats have my job?” Tugger asked glibly. “Rude.”
“Tugs,” Munkustrap said flatly.
“Look, Straps, it’s unlikely that anything is going to happen in broad daylight. Macavity likes to work with his tricks and they’ve always worked better for him at night. Anyway, you think he’s really going to be looking for me? He knows I’m the show cat of the yard. What good would it do him? Coming for you or Quax on the other hand...”
Munkustrap knocked a paw lightly into Tugger’s side, snorting. “It took ‘Lonz to get him good enough that the rest of the tribe could drive him off. He had me hypnotized and threw me across the clearing. Twice.”
“And you got back up.”
Alonzo’s ears perked again. He wouldn’t have believed Tugger capable of soft but steely respect. Then again he hadn’t believed that the large cat did ‘supportive’ or ‘admiring’, but Tugger had certainly been that for Quaxo. (Alonzo was still a bit galled that Tugger had known the extent of Quaxo’s magic but he’d had to learn about it with the rest of the tribe. He was even more annoyed that he was impressed with Tugger for how he’d handled the whole night.)
“Rum-”
“Cats who fight Macavity don’t tend to get up. He’s going to take it as an affront to his reputation. He’d want revenge on the tribe for thwarting whatever his great plan was regardless, but if he’s going to target anyone specifically it’s going to be Sparkles and you.”
The intensity in Tugger’s voice was very much at odds with the cat that Alonzo knew. He frowned thoughtfully. Munkustrap having insight into Macavity made sense; it wasn’t a secret that the Mystery cat was his brother. But Tugger was rarely among the patrols, and if he took a watch at the yard he was more likely to be found napping under a pile of kittens than anything else. When had he learned so much?
“I’d still feel better if you’d wait until I could walk with you-”
“I’m a big boy, Straps,” Tugger said, smiling crookedly.
“Pretty sure I’ve still got an inch on you.”
“Pretty sure you’re delusional.”
Munkustrap held out a paw and let it hover in a silent question. Tugger was notorious for shaking off just about any touch that he didn’t initiate but this time he nodded and the silver tabby burrowed his paw gently into his mane. The gesture was thick with meaning that Alonzo couldn’t work out. He couldn’t tell if Tugger was purring (he rarely did; there was some speculation that the Maine Coon couldn’t) but the contented expression on his face suggested he was.
“Alright,” Munkustrap said at last. He sounded... resigned. “Go. Please, just, go straight home. Don’t dawdle or get sidetracked. Okay?”
Tugger knocked his nose into Munkustrap’s cheek. “Yes, dad.”
“Cheeky,” Munkustrap protested halfheartedly.
Tugger laughed softly and left. Alonzo watched Munkustrap claw anxiously at the ground for about five seconds before he couldn’t stand it any longer. He jumped from the tire and slinked up to Munkustrap as Tugger’s fluffy gold and black tail disappeared from sight. It was a testament to the silver tabby’s state of mind that Alonzo was actually able to sneak up on him; he’d barely brushed against Munkustrap and the older cat jumped an inch to the side.
The patch tom sat back, head cocked. “You okay?”
“Oh, Alonzo,” Munkustrap breathed, blue eyes warming as he relaxed, “Sorry. I’m just... wool-gathering.”
“I saw you talking to Tugger.”
“Ah, right. You were on watch.”
“Mmhm. Plato should be along soon. Once Skimble relieves him, I’m on patrol with George and Tumble.”
Munkustrap gave him a soft, distracted smile. He turned to look at the main gate even though Tugger was gone. Alonzo followed his gaze. He wondered why Munkustrap let Tugger leave when he wouldn’t have done so for any other cat.
“You don’t have to let him get away with everything,” he said hesitantly.
He couldn’t quite stop it from coming out as a question. Munkustrap broke out into startled laughter. Alonzo flattened his ears, unprepared for the sudden sound given the quiet worry of just a moment ago.
“Sorry, sorry. I’m not laughing at you.”
Alonzo shrugged sheepishly. “I’m poking my nose into your business.”
“Conversations in the middle of the yard are the business of anyone who can hear them,” Munkustrap said kindly. “Anyway, I wasn’t going to win. Tugger, loathe though I am to admit it, is an adult and can take care of himself. The silver-tongued git can charm a pollicle when he tries.”
“He’s not taking the rats very seriously.”
“He’s thinking of his humans. He’s right that he’s only been away from them for so long once before, and they didn’t take it well. He isn’t entirely irresponsible or fickle. He just wants everyone to think he is.”
“Why would anyone want that?”
“Seems to suit him,” Munkustrap said, shrugging.
His burst of good cheer left him and his face grew serious, clawing the ground again. Alonzo felt his face screw up dubiously- Munkustrap wasn’t usually the sort of cat to dance around explanations. The silver tabby didn’t continue, though; his gaze went back to the main gate.
“I’ll go after him,” Alonzo blurted. His brain caught up with his mouth. He bit his tongue.
Munkustrap blinked at him, bemused. Alonzo couldn’t fault the reaction. He hadn’t meant to offer that. Going after Tugger might mean a conversation. He wasn’t very good at those, and in his experience with Tugger, the Maine Coon was often flippant. Alonzo knew he could be too earnest so he stumbled when cats were irreverent.
Far easier to admire the tom’s beautiful form dancing at the ball, moonlight glimmering over his thighs and trim waist. Or to watch him nap on the old car with his mane like burnished gold in the sun. Or to listen in on the outrageous stories he told to his court of admirers (nobody really believed them, but almost every cat stopped to listen). All of which could be done safely from afar.
“You don’t have to,” Munkustrap said, “You haven’t had a chance to sleep. I’m sure he’ll be fine.”
It was exactly the excuse Alonzo needed to back out. Just say: No, you’re right, I shouldn’t. So naturally what came out of his mouth was: “No, it’s alright. I’m not sleepy. I don’t mind. He’s probably not gotten very far, I’ll be able to catch up in no time.”
The silver tabby looked uncertain. “If you’re sure... I don’t like you being on your own, either. Macavity knows your scent. I’ll take your patrol. Stay until he’s ready to come back.”
Alonzo blinked. “You think he’ll let me?”
“I think he’ll be more interested than you imagine,” Munkustrap smiled crookedly. For just that instant he looked almost exactly like the Rum Tum Tugger. ”Thank you, ‘Lonz.”

Tugger, Munk and Cassandra for the ask!
Eeeeeeee thank you!!! I love all of them let's go
1. Sexuality headcanon
2. OTP
3. BROTP
4. NOTP
5. First headcanon that pops into my head
6. Favorite line from this character
7. One way in which I relate to this character
8. Thing about this character that gives me secondhand embarrassment
9. Cinnamon roll or problematic fave?
TUGGER
1. So, so very gay. He will kiss a girl for comedic purposes but that's about it.
2. Tuggoffelees!
3. Tugger and Munk, Tugger and Demeter, Tugger and Teazer. Tugger and Bomba as well, but that feels Very obvious to me so I focus on other friendships of his in my thoughts and work.
4. Tugger/Bomba. No. Absolutely not. Turns my stomach. Also obviously any gross shit.
5. Since the kittens already love Tugger he gets kittensitting duty A Lot. He doesn't mind it, they're adorable and he gets to teach them life lessons parents want to believe they don'tneed to learn (how to stay safe while being irresponsible).
6. "His numerous progeny prospers and thrives, and the village is proud of him in his decline." He sings it with so much love!!!!!
7. I too am an attention whore, and I am not straight (nor cis which Tugger is not either fucking fight me)
8. It's like... third hand embarrassment but... Etcetera. She probably makes him hard to take seriously sometimes.
9. Cinnamon roll. I love my boy and he has done nothing wrong ever in his life.
MUNK
that guy is getting a lot of sex
1. Bi. (Or pan I guess take your pick. Toms, queens, and anything in between.) (This also feels like a good place to point out I default to Trans Woman Munk because I love her very much and she deserves the world! I get that's not a wavelength most people are on tho)
2. Demebombastrap. Also a sucker for Munk/a well deserved day of rest.
3. Munk and Tugger, Munk and Misto, and Munk and Jenny!
4. Don't really have any, besides the obvious "anything incest-y or with a gross age gap". Idk I saw a Munk/Teazer thing once and I have to say I am not about that.
5. Resents Grizabella more for leaving Tugger than for leaving him, since by the time she was gone he could feed himself and communicate and had other trusted adults, whereas Tugger was a newborn. Munk still really misses her and wouldn't be so angry if she hadn't left one of her kittens basically for dead.
6. "Are you blind when you're born?" It's a very striking opening to the show, it hooks the audience in very well.
7. I love my family so so much (both my biological family and the family I've chosen) and I would do anything for them
8. The Pekes and the Pollicles. 😬
9. Cinnamon roll. I feel no need to explain this it's MUNKUSTRAP.
CASSANDRA
1. Bi. (Again, or pan)
2. Hhhh I don't really put much into shipping her. She and Alonzo are cute though!
3. Cass, Cori, and Tanto. Creepy Cat Club rights. They like to stare at people all together and unnerve them.
4. Again, I don't really think about her relationships one way or the other... Cass/Tugger I guess, I've seen some of that and it's really not up my alley, for a number of reasons.
5. She can be pretty blunt but barring Old D she gives some of the best advice in the Junkyard, since she's very levelheaded. She hears and helps solve a lot of problems. But it's kind of her thing, she enjoys it.
6. "Where you there when the pharaohs commissioned The Sphynx?" But there's one recording (obc I'm pretty sure) where she says it like "phay-row" and no lie I kinda love that
7. Sleek brown hair I guess. (I kinda don't lmao that's why she gets so little of my attention I'm sorry Cass I love you)
8. Nothing she has her shit together.
9. I'd say neither. She's not problematic, but there's nothing cinnamon roll-y about her.
But since I have so little to say about her I Will say- I have a friend named Cassandra so that makes thinking/writing about her a bit weird... it always feels a bit like I'm talking about my friend. that's why I call her Cass, it's a nickname I've never used for that friend!
These are a LOT of fun thank you!!!!

Dialogue Prompt: "It's over, it's done, just leave it be." - Mungojerrie & Rumpleteazer don't want to talk about their time working for Macavity, but Munkustrap hopes they have some inside knowledge that could help him better protect the junkyard from the Napoleon of Crime.
I'm sorry you had to wait! Here it is!
-
Munkustrap took his role as Guardian and Protector very seriously and always did everything to make sure his fellow Jellicle Cats were safe and secure in their junkyard. There was always at least two cats on patrol and keeping watch over them while the rest were sleeping, trained several of the young cats how to fight and defend themselves from any and all threats that might come their way, all from Pekes or Pollicles or other cats.
Or, especially, Macavity.
Because even though Macavity didn't always come up with schemes or plans to hurt the tribe, Munkustrap always made sure to keep an eye and ear out for the Hidden Paw and whatever tricks he might come up next.
Because even with Mistoffelees and his efforts to use his magic to defend everyone, he was still very young and learning how to use his magic. And Munkustrap would much sooner resign as Protector than allow a cat just barely out of kittenhood be responsible for the safety of the entire tribe.
And so, he was always looking for information that might help protect his family, keeping his ears close to the ground for any and all information on Macavity.
Demeter and Bombalurina, after having escaped from Macavity and returned to the tribe, had told them everything that they knew, but Munkustrap also two other cats who had worked with Macavity.
Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.
Despite having been very young when they started to working with him and still very young when they had escaped and asked for protection from the Jellicles, Munkustrap was sure they must know something that he didn't about Macavity.
But getting them spill anything was about as hard as pulling teeth.
“Look, I realize that it may not really be a pleasant topic for you, but if there is anything, anything at all, that can help the tribe-“
Mungojerrie rolled his eyes and turned away, batting a small ball of yarn from one paw to the other and kept his eyes firmly locked on the ground. “There's nothing we can tell you that you don't already know, Munk. How many times do we need to say that?"
Rumpleteazer didn't say anything, just kept fingering on the diamonds in the necklace around her neck, refusing to met anyone's eyes. She was sitting on the broken down TSE 1, just above her brother and her tail was twitching nervously.
Their time with Macavity had always been sore subject and they would very much like to pretend it had never happened at all. And for the most parts they could do that, since most cats didn't like to talk about Macavity at all, so they didn't have to talk about it that much.
Except whenever Munkustrap got like this.
“I don't buy it. You two worked with him for some time, there must be something you can tell me about him that I don't know about. Something that can help protect the tribe.”
Jerrie growled lowly, clawing into the dirt under him so he wouldn't lash out, though his tail started to bat aggressively against the ground. “I'm telling you, Straps, there isn't. Now please let it go.”
His underlying anger and frustration wasn't lost on Munkustrap. He wasn't blind or deaf, he could see it in his body language and hear in his voice that he was getting seriously agitated.
He tried for gentle approach. “Please Jerrie, any and all information would be very useful. Maybe a secret hideout, any allies we don't know about, any plans-"
Teazer finally looked up from her necklace and snapped her head at him, her amber eyes burning with anger. “Munkustrap, stop it!” Her face was scrunched up in pure anger and defensive frustration and it made Munkustrap so surprised that he took a step back.
She drew a long, shaky breath and looked him dead in the eye. “Munkustrap, can we please just let this go? If we ever have something to say to you we will, but stop pushing us about this. Yes, we have worked with Macavity, that much is made clear, can we please just leave it at that? It's over, it's done, just leave it be." And with that she got up from the car she was sitting on and walked away, her ears folded against her skull and tail between her legs, slinking away to find Victoria and Jemima to vent a little.
Munkustrap stared after her, feeling the guilt churn in his gut as he watched the young queen stalk off and moved to go after her so he could apologize, but Jerrie stopped him.
“I'd leave her alone for now, mate.” Munkustrap looked over at Mungojerrie, who was now looking more numb than angry. Which just made him feel worse.
“Mungojerrie, I… I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to push so hard, I'm just-“ Mungojerrie nodded and held up a paw, uncharacteristically serious.
“I know. It's your job to look after us, we get it. But this is something we don't want to talk about so openly, and you know that. If we remember anything that might be useful, we will tell you, but for now just drop it, okay.”
And with that Mungojerrie got up from the ground and walked off to find his sister.
Munkustrap sighed and ran a paw over his face, sighing heavily. He needed to get a grip on himself. He couldn't walk around to plow through other cats‘ defences and ignore their discomfort or make them talk about things they didn't want to talk about.
He sighed again. Perhaps all the important responsibilities could wait for an hour or so. He should go find Alonzo or Demeter and Jemima. He needed to unwind a little, maybe some sparring with his best friend or quality time with his mate and daughter would help.

My Jellylorum Headcanons:
Tumblr media
She’s Jenyanydots and Asparagus Jr.’s mate and the mother of Plato, Socrates, and Etcetera.
She’s also Gus’s primary caretaker since she understands how difficult it is for Asparagus to see him this way.  She loves the old tom like he was her own father and dotes on him at any opportunity.
She used to live with a London writer before moving to the Junkyard for good after seeing how much her fellow Jellicles needed her.  She still wears her collar to avoid getting picked up by animal catchers, even after the Pet Purge.
She almost mated with Skimbleshanks when they were younger—he was courting Asparagus at the time, and she considered taking them both as her mates.  But her busy schedule as a caretaker clashed with Skimble’s obligation to the Midnight Mail, so they decided to remain friends instead.
Demeter and Bombalurina are both like daughters to her.  She was one of the first cats to welcome them back to the Tribe (even if she was warier of Bomba because of her past service to Macavity), and it means a great deal to her that they both turn to her for advice and comfort when they need it.
She’s also become a surrogate auntie to Mistoffelees, Electra, Alonzo, Victoria, and Jemima.  She’s stricter with the queens sometimes since she knows what young toms are like, but she doesn’t let the toms get off scot-free either.  She’s a very protective aunt who tries to keep them away from anything she thinks is dangerous or untrustworthy.
Jenyanydots was her very best friend even before the two became mates—the two “dearies” are nearly inseparable and share the responsibility of looking after the kittens and keeping up-to-date on Tribe gossip.
Thanks to an accident where her front paws were run over by a passing car, she has a hard time dancing and keeping up with the others.  Even running is a challenge for her.
The one thing she misses most about her human owner are his rose gardens.  Even now if she’s feeling particularly wistful, she’ll walk around the different neighborhoods taking in the sights of their gardens and reminiscing about when her greatest worry was what her owner was going to feed her.
She’s more of a free-range parent than Jenyanydots is and never above spoiling her kittens occasionally just for the heck of it, but she’s still strict when she needs to be.
She never believed that acting would be her calling, but thanks to Gus’s mentoring she’s become a great actress with a heavenly singing voice.  The first time she sang in front of an audience and put into practice everything Gus had taught her, she was shocked at the sound of her own voice.  Now, she’ll gladly offer to sing lullabies for any cat struggling to sleep.
She formed the sewing club in the Junkyard mainly as a way to gossip with Jeny at first, but she slowly opened it up to any cats who needed to relax or feel included in something.
She’s worked very hard at making her den a sort of sanctuary for any cat who needs to feel safe and comforted.  It’s a very large, cozy place with lots of old pillows and blankets and lit up with strings of Christmas lights.
She has the opposite problem of Gus--while she’s not as fluent in Italian as he is, her accent and pronunciation are much better with the words she does know.
She’s also surprisingly good friends with Tantomile—she’s one of the few cats Tanto feels safe letting her guard down around.
On days when Gus is feeling especially sharp, she gives tours with him of the Criterion Theatre’s backstage area and costume shop.
She sleeps either on her back or sprawled out on her side with her legs stretched out.
She’s taken on a protégé in the form of a young queen named Sylvani from Esther’s mini-Tribe.  Sylvani wants to be a caretaker for the Tribe in the same way Jelly is, and Jelly’s steadily teaching her everything she knows.

Been working on this fic for four years and have taken more rabbit trails than there are sidequests in a Final Fantasy game. Are some of the early chapters dreadfully Cringe and need some serious TLC? Probably. Is it really The Macavity Show anymore? Not exactly. Has it turned into The Kitten Show? You bet. Also, I’ve no idea what ages I headcanon anyone anymore. Somehow or other Carbuckety ended up as one of the oldest kittens rather than one of the youngest, George ended up as a kitten (I blame Palladium/Broadway Revival Pounce-George for that), and Alonzo, Carbuckety, and Pounce ended up as half-brothers. I don’t even care at this point, so long as I finish it. So here, have a HenchKitten Rescue Sidequest and a Look, We’re Twins! encounter.
“B-Bucky?”
“Georgie!” Carbuckety’s face broke out into a broad grin. “C’mere, bring everyone else, I’ve got something to show you! But quietly, mind, it’s a surprise, and it’s just for kittens, not grownups.” He glanced pointedly at the two henchqueens seated on a pile of bricks nearby—meant to be watching the kits, but mainly talking to one another and paying little attention. Kitten escapes were rarely a problem; and anyway, the queens reasoned, the kits couldn’t get far; they had no idea where to go and hunger would be certain to bring them back again before long.
George frowned. “That sounds awfully su—spewishuss. You’re not going to get us into trouble, are—”
“Please, Georgie, no arguing, just get the others here without anyone seeing you and I’ll explain everything! It’s nothing bad, I promise! It’s the Surprise I’ve been telling you about.”
As little George bounded off to gather the others, Carbuckety shot a smug grin over his shoulder, in the general direction of Alonzo, Quaxo, and the twins’ hiding place.
“‘Georgie’ and ‘Bucky,’ eh?” muttered Alonzo. “They seem to know each other well, and it isn’t as if they are the right ages to’ve spent time in the kitten den together. Gather he’s been paying them visits a long time, then. Funny he shouldn’t have mentioned it. Or tried to help them escape before.”
“There’s a right time for everything,” Quaxo whispered. “And big as he talks, he knows it was smarter to wait until he had backup. He’s cleverer than you give him credit for.”
“Oh, I’ve no doubt he is. Plenty clever. My worry is he sells his cleverness to the highest bidder.”
“He despises the henchcats and everything to do with them,” Tantomile murmured. “You may rest easy on that score.”
“Except the henchkits.”
“They are innocent.”
“He doesn’t seem to like the Jellicles all that much either.”
“If he keeps up a tough exterior to protect himself, can you blame him? I know plenty of others who do the same.”
Alonzo’s pelt prickled uncomfortably, and he didn’t respond to that last.
After a few more moments, a small parade of kittens headed by Carbuckety approached their hiding-place. Alonzo shot another anxious glance over to the two henchqueens, who still appeared wrapped up in their conversation and heedless of the fact that their charges were getting away. Almost as if this were planned, as if they wanted the kits to escape… Perhaps it was only that they intended to snatch the kits right back again, when the henchcats invaded the junkyard…
Well, no matter. For the moment, the thing was to clear out of here as quickly as possible—not an easy prospect with this many kits… “Ten,” Alonzo breathed, rapidly counting them up. “Is that everyone?” he whispered to Carbuckety. The younger tom gave a nod and a grunt, already carrying George on his back and the smallest kit in his mouth. Wordlessly, Quaxo and the twins each likewise carried one kit by the scruff and another pigaback. Alonzo followed suit, expecting some resistance—they were strangers, after all—but the kits were all oddly cooperative. Only George showed any sign of worry. Alonzo wondered if Tantomile had brought a feeling of calm to all of them. Or, perhaps they were simply too young to worry about much of anything yet.
“Right, let’s go,” he mumbled, careful not to drop the kit he held in his mouth.
-
About halfway to the junkyard, as they were passing through a humans’ residential area, Carbuckety stopped, setting down the kit in his mouth and crouching to allow George to climb down from his back. “Off you get, Georgie. Auggie, go and walk with our friends. There’s just one little detour I need to make…”
Alonzo and the others halted as well. Alonzo carefully set down the kit he’d been carrying by the scruff. “What are you playing at now, kit?” He glanced at Coricopat and Tantomile, who looked slightly disapproving but unsurprised, then at Quaxo, who merely shrugged.
“Nothing,” said Carbuckety tranquilly, “just something I’ve got to do. It’s important.”
“It can wait till we’ve got the others safely home,” Alonzo frowned. The kit he’d been carrying in his mouth was jumping up, trying to join his friend perched on Alonzo’s back. The harlequin tom crouched down to allow the kit to climb up, whilst keeping his gaze fixed suspiciously on Carbuckety. “This whole thing is your operation.”
“And this is part of it,” the younger tom explained. “It really can’t wait. But…why don’t you four carry on back to the junkyard, and…”
George’s face grew panicked. “I’m not goin’ wif them, I wanna go wif you, Bucky!”
“Here, what’s this then?” Carbuckety chuckled, shoving George goodnaturedly, albeit gently so as not to knock the smaller tom off his feet. “I told you, these are my friends and they’ll keep you safe. They’re taking you to the most fun new home you ever saw. You can do whatever you want there! Didn’t you promise to do everything I said? All of you?” he added, looking round at the other kits. A few of them grumbled and shuffled their paws, but made no further attempts to argue the matter. “Anyway,” Bucky went on, “I’ll be right behind you—with a surprise. So be good and go along with these nice cats now.”
“Follow him,” Coricopat muttered to Alonzo. “We’ll see the others safely to the ’yard.”
With something of an exasperated sigh, Alonzo transferred his charges to riding on Quaxo and Coricopat’s backs, the twins and Quaxo each once again picked up a kit by the scruff, and the four biggest kits walked.
Alonzo turned to follow Carbuckety, who was already making his way up to one of the houses. Just what is he up to now?
-
Alonzo crouched behind a bush—a very prickly bush, thanks—watching Carbuckety. Or, rather, watching Carbuckety watch another tomkit who was frolicking about the garden, chasing after insects. A human sat on the front stoop, also watching the kit.
Why are we all sitting around watching a kit? Would’ve been nice if Coricopat or Tantomile had given him some sort of hint as to what this was all about…
Just then, the human looked over its shoulder and went into the house, evidently to fetch something. Carbuckety darted from his hiding-place; apparently this had been the opportunity he was waiting for. “Hey—psst!” he hissed, approaching the smaller tom. The kit turned round in surprise. “Remember me?” Carbuckety grinned.
“Um…Bucket Bean?” the other tom ventured.
“Carbuckety,” Bucky corrected. “But you can call me Bucky if it’s easier. Ready to go?”
The tomkit froze. “Go?”
“I told you,” Carbuckety sighed, somewhat impatient now, “that I’d be back for you.”
“And—and I told you I couldn’t leave,” returned the other, glancing uneasily towards the house.
“But you’ve got to. It’s about to get dangerous—say, what’s your name anyway? You never said…”
“Percival George,” said the tomkit, straightening his shoulders proudly and momentarily forgetting to worry, “after Knights and Kings.”
Carbuckety was unwilling to admit he had no idea what that meant—must be ‘some human nonsense,’ as he muttered to himself. “Well,” he said aloud, “sorry, we’ve already got a George. You’ll have to go by just plain Percival.” He grimaced. “But that sounds so silly. Can’t we change it up a bit? Something…well, more cat-like and less human-like…”
Alonzo shifted restlessly in his hiding-place, unsure whether this were a kitnapping he needed to put a stop to, or a rescue he needed to help with. Whichever, Carbuckety needed to get on with it, why was he wasting time quibbling over names?
“Is your name cat-like?” Percival pointed out. “Car…Bucket? Cars and Buckets? What’s so catlike about those? They’re very human. Which suits me fine,” he added smugly, “I love humans.”
“Yeah, yeah, fine,” Carbuckety waved a paw impatiently, trying not to show his embarrassment, “everyone loves humans, they’re all wonderful, and all that. Anyway, cars are good for hiding-under and buckets make cozy nooks. But you. Just now I saw you running around the garden, leaping, jumping…”
“Pouncing?”
“Yeah, pouncing!”
“Well, of course I was. Everyone pounces, it’s fun!”
“Yeah, except old granny cats who’d hurt their backs. But that’s not the point. What I mean is, that’s what we’ll call you!”
“What?” Percival stared in confusion.
“Instead of PURSE-ivvle, we’ll call you POUNCE-ivvle. Or even just Pounce.” Carbuckety grinned.
“That’s the silliest thing I ever heard,” Percival scowled, “and I’m not changing my name. I like it. It’s the name my humans gave me.”
“Almost no one in the yard goes by the names their humans gave them,” Bucky informed him. “Those are just for when they’re with the humans. In the yard we like more peculiar, dignified names.”
“S’nothing undignified about Percival, and I never asked to come to your ol’ yard.”
This was getting out of paw, Alonzo decided, preparing to show himself and intervene. Whether Carbuckety meant well or not, this kit clearly didn’t want to come along, and you couldn’t force someone to come live in the junkyard…
“But don’t you want to meet your mum?” Carbuckety urged.
Alonzo froze. He was out in the open now; the two toms would see him if they only turned round to look, but he neither moved closer to them nor returned to his hiding-place. Who…?
“I s’pose so,” Percival sighed, softening just a little. “But…how do I know you’re even telling the truth about that?”
“Look at me. We look almost exactly alike. You think that’s coincidence? Your mum is my auntie—my mum’s sister, not that she’d ever tolerate me calling her auntie. Anyway, you ought to let her know you’re alive at least.”
Before Alonzo could fully take in the meaning of all this, the two younger toms turned round to face him, and the three felines merely stood staring at one another in stunned silence for a moment.
“Guess the moon twins couldn’t trust me to get the job done myself,” Carbuckety observed finally.
“Who’re you?” asked Percival, bewildered. He looked once more towards the house, as if hoping the human would return and scare off these two strangers.
Alonzo merely gaped, glancing from Carbuckety to Percival and then back again. He did this several times before finally blurting out, “There’s two of you!”
“Just said that,” Bucky shrugged. “You coming or not, Pounce? The henches’ll be…”
“Fine,” Percival exclaimed, all out of patience. “But only if you promise to bring me back!”
“If I can,” Carbuckety allowed, “if it’s safe. And,” he grinned, “if you don’t decide you like it so much in the junkyard that you’d rather…”
“Not going to happen.”
“Suit yourself,” Carbuckety shrugged. “Will you take us home, Alonzo?”

TIME TO KILL A CHAOS TWIN. M is feeling left out (either because of R’s relationship with V or like he’s the third wheel in his poly relationship with two other cats of your choice). There’s an argument but before they can reconcile MACAVITY KIDNAPS THE OTHER CAT. In the rescue Mungojerrie leads but either he or R gets killed. Remaining twin is a shadow of former self. bonus: next year, Mistoffelees sings their song for them - with trash puppets and “WERE a notorious couple of cats”.
ALRIGHTY YOU ASKED FOR THIS
They were a couple of notorious cats. Partners in crime, trusting each other with their lives, until the day that one of them went too far.
Mungojerrie really tried not to be angry with his sister. He loved her more than anything, and she was his best friend. They had been through so much, so much pain, and they knew each other better than anyone. So Mungojerrie knew that he couldn't be angry with Rumpleteazer.
But it was difficult not to feel bitter when she approached him to say that she was moving into a den with Victoria, or when he’d be sitting with his sister, and she would suddenly up and run away to go and sit with Victoria, giggling and laughing with the other queen.
Mungojerrie was ridiculously happy for his sister. She deserved a safe and content life with Victoria, but he couldn’t help but feel hurt when he would try to spend time with his sister only for her to bring Victoria along.
He didn’t hate his sister or Victoria. Victoria was probably one of the sweetest queens Mungojerrie had ever met, and he knew that neither queen probably knew what was happening, but Mungojerrie just couldn’t help but feel lost and left out, abandoned by his sister.
So he drifted within the tribe, spending time with his mother and older sisters, playing with his little sisters, delighting the young queens.
Rumpleteazer, of course, noticed her brother’s sudden distance, but she simply assumed that Mungojerrie was giving her time to explore her new relationship with Victoria. She didn’t want to make a big deal about it, but once she realized that her brother seemed to be purposefully ignoring her, Rumpleteazer knew that she had to confront her twin about his strange behavior.
She found Mungojerrie sitting in his den, staring at an old toy sitting in the corner, barely acknowledging her presence except for his ears twitching in her direction.
"Alright, what’s going on with you, Jer?” Rumpleteazer asked, walking towards her brother with narrowed eyes. “You’ve been acting like I’ve got the plague or something every time I’m around you.”
Mungojerrie tried not to scoff, refusing to meet his sister’s eyes. “Now you notice me? What, am I not giving you enough attention?”
Rumpleteazer crossed her arms, frowning. “What are you talking about?”
“It was always the two of us, Teaz. Best friends, partners in crime. We’ve always been there for each other.” Mungojerrie said, keeping his eyes locked on the corner of the den. “We’ve always been working off of each other and keeping each other safe. I love Tori, don’t get me wrong, but you’ve been blowing me off these past days, and it feels like you don’t even want me around anymore!”
“How can you say that, Jer? You’re the one who’s been keeping yourself away from me!” Rumpleteazer exclaimed.
“Because you’re spending all your time with Victoria!” Mungojerrie shot back. “I can’t have alone time with you without you bringing her along! You’re my sister, and I barely get to see you anymore!”
Rumpleteazer glared at her brother. “We’re going to be mates, Mungojerrie! Of course, I’m going to be spending loads of time with her!”
Mungojerrie tried not to hiss as he looked at his sister. “I know that, Teaz, but would it kill you to set some time aside for me? I can’t have time alone with you anymore!”
“You’re being selfish, Mungojerrie!” Rumpleteazer snapped. “You’re being selfish and hateful!”
"I’m selfish for wanting time with my sister?” Mungojerrie asked, eyes wide. “Then by the Everlasting Cat, fine! I’m being selfish! Just some time together, Teazer. Alone, without Victoria or anyone else.”
Rumpleteazer clenched her paws into fists and stepped back, looking at Jerrie with hurt in her eyes. “I’m so sorry I can’t give you exactly what you want, Mungojerrie.” Mungojerrie scoffed, looking back to the corner of the den, and Rumpleteazer growled angrily, spinning around and leaving the den.
The entire tribe could see the shift in the dynamic between the twins almost immediately. They never sat together, barely meeting the other’s eyes, never acknowledging the other, even if they walked past one another in the Junkyard. Jenny and Skimbleshanks knew what had happened between their twins, and it pained them to see their relationship suffer. Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer had approached their parents separately to tell them what had happened, and both Jenny and Skimbleshanks had tried to get their children to talk to each other, but they refused. Rumpleteazer refused because she was stubborn, and didn’t want to acknowledge that she had hurt her brother, and Mungojerrie refused because he wanted his sister to apologize first.
The twins were stubborn, but when it came to apologizing to each other, they were even more stubborn.
But this time, their stubbornness was their downfall.
“JERRIE!”
Mungojerrie’s head snapped up at the sound of Victoria’s cry, and his eyes widened at the white queen’s frightened eyes. “What’s happened, Tori?”
“Macavity’s taken Teazer. I was visiting Uncle Bustopher with Misto, and we overheard some of his henchcats walking past, boasting about how they’ve gotten one of the traitor thieves.” Victoria said, grabbing onto the calico tom’s paws. “I”m not sure what he’s planning, but it can’t be good.”
Mungojerrie looked around, and he met Munkustrap’s eyes. “We’re going to get him back.”
They quickly formed a plan, the rescue team including Mungojerrie, Munkustrap, Mistoffelees, Tugger, and Bombalurina. Alonzo, Demeter, Plato, and Victoria would be left to defend the tribe just in case something else happened, and the five Jellicles set off towards the abandoned building that they could smell Macavity’s scent surrounding.
As they entered the building, a chilling voice rang out around them. “Welcome, little brothers!” Macavity appeared in front of them, a cruel grin on his face. At his feet was Rumpleteazer, ropes around her, keeping her trapped in place.
“Let my sister go!” Mungojerrie hissed, and Munkustrap stepped forward.
“She’s innocent, Macavity.” the silver tabby said.
Macavity sneered. “Please. I have a right to take her down, little brother. She belongs to me.”
“She belongs to no one!” Bombalurina growled.
“If you want the little queen, you’re going to have to come and get her.” Macavity said, lifting his chin. He flicked his tail, and henchcats rushed towards the five cats. They all stood back to back, and attacked, clawing and scratching angrily at the henchcats, Mistoffelees’ magic blasting back and henchcats that his companions missed. Tugger took on the larger of the cats, using his powerful paws to shove them back and hit them as hard as he could.
Mungojerrie looked around as he clawed at one of the henchcats, and his eyes narrowed as he focused on Macavity.
“Come along, little tom.” Macavity taunted, and Mungojerrie jumped, tackling Macavity away from his sister with an angry hiss.
“Jerrie, no!” Tugger shouted as he watched his friend attack Macavity.
Bombalurina scratched the henchcat she was fighting in the side, and she ran to Rumpleteazer, ripping the ropes away from her and freeing her.
Mungojerrie grit his teeth as he felt Macavity’s claws dig into his skin, ripping out fur. He bared his teeth and bit, digging his fangs into Macavity’s shoulder and pulling back, an angry sense of pleasure at the sound of the ginger tom’s flinch of pain. Macavity growled and lashed out, clawing Mungojerrie across the face and causing him to fall to the ground, feeling blood stream down his cheek.
“You and your sister are done ruining my plans, you little bastard.” Macavity snarled.
Mistoffelees saw the two toms and his eyes narrowed. He closed his eyes and sent a wave of magic towards them, sending a rush of lightning through Macavity’s body and making the tom yowl in pain. Mistoffelees planted himself, continuing to send magic towards Macavity to keep him distracted as Munkustrap and Tugger raced forward to help Mungojerrie. Macavity had enough, however, and he shoved Mistoffelees’ magic back, pushing the Jellicles away. He lunged forward and slashed his claws over Mungojerrie, ripping through his throat in a single swoop.
“JERRIE!” Rumpleteazer screamed.
Bombalurina froze as soon as she saw her brother go still. “NO!” Macavity grinned at them and disappeared in a swirl of smoke and magic.
Rumpleteazer ran forward. “Jerrie? Jerrie, don’t you fucking dare be dead!” She looked down at her brother, her twin, her other half. “Mungojerrie, please!” Bombalurina stared in horror at the sight before her, barely acknowledging Tugger’s presence as he stood beside her.
“Teazer...” Munkustrap whispered in a hoarse voice, stepping forward towards the calico queen.
Rumpleteazer ignored him, lying down beside Mungojerrie and resting her head on his chest. “Jerrie, listen to me! You’re going to be okay! You’re going to come home and we’re going to spend time together, just like you want!” Tears were in the queen’s eyes, but she kept talking, choking back tears. “I’m sorry, Jerrie, just please come back! I love you so much, Jer! I need you, Jer!”
Munkustrap sat down beside Rumpleteazer, and he nuzzled her shoulder gently. “I’m sorry, Teazer. He’s... he’s gone.”
Rumpleteazer let out a wail, collapsing back against Munkustrap and breaking apart into sobs. “JERRIE!” Munkustrap wrapped around her, trying not to cry as he attempted to comfort the calico queen. “I didn’t mean it, Munkustrap! He wasn’t selfish! He wasn’t! He was an asshole, but he was the kindest asshole I knew! He’s not gone, he can’t be gone, Munkustrap!” Mistoffelees pressed against Rumpleteazer’s other side, nuzzling against her cheek, which was wet with tears and her brother’s blood.
“We’ll bring him home, Teazer. He’s going to get a proper sendoff.” the magical tom whispered, and Rumpleteazer broke down into fresh sobs as Tugger and Bombalurina joined them, the red queen silently crying as she looked down at the body of her brother.
“I want him back! Everlasting Cat, please, I need him back! I need my Jerrie!” Rumpleteazer cried, throwing herself over her twin. Munkustrap shared a pained look with the other four, and Bombalurina nodded towards Tugger, who moved forward slowly, and pulled Rumpleteazer away from Mungojerrie, holding her close with a paw as Mistoffelees, Bombalurina, and Munkustrap gently cleaned the blood from the calico tom’s fur. Rumpleteazer burrowed into Tugger, sobbing quietly as she watched them.
When they returned to the Junkyard, Jenny had let out a scream nearly identical to Rumpleteazer’s, collapsing when she saw her son being carried towards her. Skimbleshanks had gone silent, gripping Jenny tightly as Demeter rushed towards Bombalurina and Rumpleteazer, wrapping her sisters in a tight embrace.
Mungojerrie was given a sendoff fit for the finest warrior. His family led the burial, singing of the fallen tom and speaking about him before the entire tribe. Rumpleteazer had remained silent during the tribute, and she simply stuck beside Victoria, the white cat holding her tightly the entire time.
During the next Ball, Mistoffelees had created another special tribute for the fallen Mungojerrie; a puppet show of his and Rumpleteazer’s song that made the entire tribe smile bittersweetly. Rumpleteazer had simply watched with a blank look, not a smile or glimmer of brightness in her eyes. She was never the same after Mungojerrie’s death, but no one could blame her, of course.
Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer were a notorious couple of cats, but what is one half without the other?
The tribe had lost Mungojerrie to Macavity that day, but Rumpleteazer?
She had lost her spirit.

My Carbucketty Headcanons:
Tumblr media
He was the son of a cruel tom he only knew as The Bo’sun who forced him to work on the deck of his ship and never allowed him to see his mother.  When Carbucketty tried to hide one day, he was punished by being tossed overboard.  Luckily, the first cats he met when he managed to swim to the docks were Munkustrap, Old Deuteronomy, and Esther, who brought him to the Egyptian as his new home. (@munkmeterbuckety1981)
He considers himself something of a cheerful nihilist and has a very wry sense of humor.  But as much as he usually doesn’t take himself that seriously or expect the other cats to, he’s very serious about keeping his Tribe family happy and keeping them safe since they’re all he has.
He’s very good friends with Electra (whom he has a secret handshake with), Etcetera, Tumblebrutus, Victoria, and a newcomer queen named Jersey, who he was more than happy to show the ropes around the Junkyard and eventually came to see her as a little sister. (@ask-jellicle-jersey)
He also admires Alonzo a great deal and sees him as not just his mentor to become a Protector one day, but also as a surrogate father. (@ask-theknockaboutcat)
He tries very hard to concentrate, but he has trouble sitting still and cam get bored fairly easily.
He genuinely loves mice and ferrets and would sooner make friends with them than hunt them.
He was a habit of eating things he shouldn’t, which has landed him in Jenyanydots’s healing den quite a few times.  He’s already a little bit scared of Jeny, so he tries not to let her know if he doesn’t feel well.
He loves pranking Bustopher Jones by stealing his spoon and other personal effects, but he never means any harm by it.  He’s as fond of the old tom as the rest of them—it’s just fun to push his buttons.
He sometimes tries to use big words he doesn’t know the proper meanings of and can be very prone to malapropisms and mixed metaphors.  When somebody corrects him, he just shrugs it off.
He used to have a huge schoolboy crush on Bombalurina, but now he’s mates with one of his friend Bimbo’s circus companions, a queen named Persimmon. (@rumplteazer)

What are your headcanons for those notorious couple of cats, Jerrie and Teazer? Do you see them as siblings, or mates? Did they both work for Macavity? If so, why did they leave, and how did the tribe come to accept them?
They both are baby and I love them with all my heart.
I see them definitely as siblings. They’re basically identical, so they’re twins in my opinion.
again, this will probably be a long one like my one for Demeter, which it also references, so I hope you enjoy this!
- Macavity found them when they were kittens. Their mother was a pedigree show cat, but her owners hadn’t wanted kittens, so they threw them out as soon as they were old enough to be on their own.
This makes the twins indebted to Macavity, which is the whole reason they stick around.
- They’re the errand cats for Macavity and the spies. All the little tasks are left to Jerrie and Teazer. They’re the least respected of his henchcats, so all the menial stuff and dirty work get thrown on them. It’s all they know, though, so Jerrie and Teazer don’t really mind.
The one thing they hate is when they make a mistake or can’t get something for Macavity. Then he takes care of them himself, and that usually ends up with the twins separated where they can’t protect each other.
Six months after they were brought to Macavity, they start to catch glimpses of a red queen and a gold queen, but they didn’t know who they were.
- When they don’t have to run errands for Macavity, their favorite place to steal from is, of course, Victoria Grove. The family moved out not long after getting rid of Jerrie and Teazer, but they don’t care. They still resent rich humans, so they take what they want.
- They met Bustopher first. Macavity had an errand for them near the club, so they went. It was to steal food for the other henchcats, so they snuck into the kitchen.
They were caught by Bustopher, who took one look at the thin, near-starving calico kittens and immediately sat down with them and fed them.
The twins were hesitant around him but slowly warmed up. They didn’t tell Bustopher about Macavity, but they told him about being abandoned and being scapegoats and errand cats.
Bustopher casually mentions a house a few blocks away from Victoria Grove that had no security, knowing that it was Tugger and Misto’s home and that his nephew would be able to make the twins feel comfortable and safe.
- Jerrie and Teazer decided to try and steal from that house, and Misto found them in their girl’s bedroom. Tugger shut the window and trapped the duo in there, terrifying them of course.
Tugger wasn’t expecting for the little calicos to be so scared of him until they started calling him “Boss”, and the tom to place himself in front of the queen and beg to take her punishment.
As soon as he realized they were talking about his brother, Tugger was ready to go after Macavity himself. Misto held him back.
That night, Tugger and MIsto demanded the two stay with them, and they were fed and taken care of.
Jerrie and Teazer told the two toms everything, and the next morning, they went with Tugger and Misto to the Junkyard, where they were introduced to the tribe and told their story to Munkustrap and Deuteronomy.
- Munkustrap is wary, but after receiving reassurance from Misto, Tugger, and Bustopher, Jerrie and Teazer are accepted into the tribe, and basically immediately adopted by Jenny and Skimble.
For one thing, Jenny sees two kittens who didn’t have a mother, so of course, she’s going to smother and love them
But also, Jenny sees her girls. Her girls who disappeared with Macavity. She sees two cats who are victims of abuse, anger, and hate, and all she wants to do is make them feel loved, safe, and happy.
Jerrie and Teazer aren’t used to the sudden affection, but they quickly warm up to Skimble and Jenny.
What really makes the tribe truly accept the twins is:
The fact that they tell Munkustrap, Alonzo, and Tugger all about Macavity’s plans after they arrive, so the tribe is prepared the next few times Macavity attacks, which pisses the Hidden Paw off to no end
Most importantly, what happened during the harsh winter after they arrive. Food was scarce, but Jerrie and Teazer knew all the spots for hunting and food from their time with Macavity. They take Tugger, Alonzo, and Plato with them, and they get enough food for the tribe to help them survive the winter.
- When Macavity kidnaps Misto, the twins are the ones to lead Munkustrap and Tugger to his lair, and they’re the ones to help break him out.
- Yes, Jerrie and Teazer still steal and sneak about, but the tribe has just learned to deal with it. Munkustrap tolerates it with a sigh and a shake of his head, but he secretly adores the twins and sees them as younger siblings, and so does Tugger, who never got to be a big brother.
After Demeter and Bombalurina return, Tugger is protective over the twins and still suspicious towards the sisters until Munkustrap and Demeter finally talk to each other.
- Teazer and Victoria become best friends basically overnight, and Jerrie is BFFs with Plato, and he’s the one that gives Plato the nudge to act on his feelings for Victoria.
- Most importantly, Jerrie and Teazer are happy, and the tribe keeps them safe from Macavity.
