The Lavon Affair
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Lavon affair was a failed Israeli covert operation, codenamed Operation Susannah, conducted in Egypt in the summer of 1954.
As part of a false flag operation, a group of Egyptian Jews were recruited by Israeli military intelligence to plant bombs inside Egyptian-, American-, and British-owned civilian targets: cinemas, libraries, and American educational centers.
The attacks were to be blamed on the Muslim Brotherhood, Egyptian communists, “unspecified malcontents”, or “local nationalists” with the aim of creating a climate of sufficient violence and instability to induce the British government to retain its occupying troops in Egypt’s Suez Canal zone.
The operation resulted in the deaths of four operatives.
The overseer of the operation allegedly informed the Egyptians, after which 11 suspected operatives were arrested. Two committed suicide after being captured, two were executed by the Egyptian authorities, two of them were acquitted at trial, and the remaining five received prison terms ranging from 7 years to life in prison.

World Hijab Day 2024 (2/1/2024)
Tumblr media
This is the first year I'll be participating in World Hijab Day.
This is a one-day annual global campaign to bring awareness and educate the general public about the hijab. Women from all backgrounds, irrespective of faith, can participate by wearing a head scarf/hijab; men can wear a winter scarf and post about their support for women being able to choose to wear the hijab, no matter where they live. 150+ countries participate in this event in order to promote personal freedom of religious expression, cultural understanding, and international solidarity.
I ordered a hijab (received it two days early, on my birthday), and I'm looking forward to donning it and experience it for a day. I'm not sure I'll be leaving the house since we took care of foreseeable errands (which i know is kinda against the point of the day, which is to walk in a hijabi's shoes for a day), since the weather's supposed to be bad. But I'll definitely wear it regardless!

happy world hijab day!
feb 1st
i may not be a hijabi, but as a muslim, i celebrate the world hijab day all the same. hijab is an islamic symbol of obedience and freedom of choice. in islam, women wear it with their full will (even though some cultures sort of push women to, but that’s a negative cultural aspect, not relevant to the religious nature of islam).
seeing hijab banned is such a sad thing, for it jeopardizes the freedom of speech and choice for muslim women in certain places around the world. hijab isn’t just a religious symbol that hijabis can get rid of for specific occasions: it is part of their identity and lifestyle that should be given due respect.

Stupid hijabi apologetics.
https://quranx.com/24.31
And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
https://quranx.com/33.59
O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
https://quranx.com/Hadith/Bukhari/USC-MSA/Volume-6/Book-60/Hadith-318/
Narrated Aisha:
Sauda (the wife of the Prophet) went out to answer the call of nature after it was made obligatory (for all the Muslims ladies) to observe the veil. She was a fat huge lady, and everybody who knew her before could recognize her. So `Umar bin Al-Khattab saw her and said, "O Sauda! By Allah, you cannot hide yourself from us, so think of a way by which you should not be recognized on going out. Sauda returned while Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was in my house taking his supper and a bone covered with meat was in his hand. She entered and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I went out to answer the call of nature and `Umar said to me so-and-so." Then Allah inspired him (the Prophet) and when the state of inspiration was over and the bone was still in his hand as he had not put in down, he said (to Sauda), "You (women) have been allowed to go out for your needs."
Things that are in the quran are not merely helpful suggestions. They’re (purportedly) the eternal, perfect Word of Allah, and thus divine commandments.
Hijab is, by definition, for no woman anywhere, a choice as it has already been declared from above to be mandatory. The only “choice” is to be good and obey Allah, or be wicked and disobey Allah.

My World Hijab Day Story
It was a different look.
I stood in my bathroom, looking at the woman in front of me. She was me, but different. A navy blue, pre-sewn instant hijab was atop her head. For the first time in her life, I was covering my hair as part of our routine for the day. Blue has been my favorite color for years, and wearing a hijab for the first time was a unique experience.
I felt beautiful. Undeservedly so.
Why? I was still calling myself an atheist. I was wearing the hijab for one day to test the waters, to see how I felt, and walk an inch in the miles-long path of Muslim hijabi women around the world. I guess a part of me was hoping I didn't feel beautiful, because then I wouldn't become too attached and have to give it up if I wasn't as into studying Islam in the future. If my studying didn't lead to reversion, not feeling any prettier in hijab would be the ideal.
But life is far from ideal, which is a far cry from the most trying experiences a person can have. But as a self-avowed atheist for the better part of a decade, the struggle has been real.
For the day, though, I could wear the garment and test the practical feelings. Was it comfortable? Would I get a headache if I wore it every day? Would I prefer darker colors, lighter colors, or neutrals?
My practical evaluation went out the window real quick, although you might have been able to see that coming from a mile away.
I felt beautiful. I felt productive. I felt like I was being kinder and more helpful to my husband. I felt calmer and more self-assured than any hair-out day before. When I took it off at the end of the night, I felt sad, in a way. Yes, hijab ideally keeps the beauty of our hair a secret, save for a select few, but seeing mine out after being hidden all day was strange, in a very bittersweet way.
It's been two weeks since that day, and I've had a very spiritual experience this evening. I won't go into details, as it's still fresh and I'm still processing it. But combined with my experience on World Hijab Day 2024, the fact that I haven't found a single alleged contradiction to be correct, and the signs I've received? I think there's going to be a big change in my life coming soon.
But in the meantime, I've committed to participating in the 30-Day Hijab Challenge, during which I'll wear hijab during the month of Ramadan in solidarity with hijabis the world over. Which naturally means I ordered three more instant pre-sewns (lol).
