Worldbuilding Wednesday 3/1
Rabbit Rabbit and Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! Today, I want to know about good luck traditions. Do folks say or do something special at the start of a month to bring good luck? Place things a certain way in their homes for the best flow of fortune? Carry around stones or trinkets to bring good luck? Tell me all about it!
This is an open ask, for anyone to answer. For more open worldbuilding questions, be sure to check out @worldbuildingwedasks

Is Worldbuilding Wednesday still a thing?
As a continuity of this post of mine… Which country has the most family names? Or the fewest? Does everyone have a family name? If not, who does, who doesn’t? If yes, since when and how did it become a thing? What are the 5 most frequent family names?

So, at least in the northern hemisphere, winter is approaching. So tell me about the preparations for this season in your world(s)!
How does the population prepare to handle the cold? Are there any activities or rituals for this moment? do they go skiing
Tell me everything!

Happy WBW! I'm izzy, a new writerblr!
Who's your favorite character you've ever created?
Happy WBW, and welcome to writeblr! :D
Currently my favourite OC is Ilaran from The Power and the Glory. He's my favourite for a lot of reasons, including:
A lot is revealed about him but a lot's still a mystery too, even to me
He's an anti-hero at best and a villain protagonist at worst, but I hope I've done a good job of showing why he is the way he is
He's the only one of the main trio who regularly uses their shared braincell
And he's fun to write :D

Idk why but for some reason the words I associate with Grimm and fpk are partner, lover, or boyfriend. Not husband.
I know you had the meme redraw of Grimm and FPK getting married with the officiant being Elderbug with the caption being "We have gay s3x" or something like that.
But anyway, are they legally married or did they just have a ceremony? How would it have gone? Would their wedding be based on weddings in Hallownest or something that Grimm saw in another kingdom?
I'm not sure how a legal marriage would work in Hallownest, especially since at this point it's just a bunch of independent settlements, as opposed to an united kingdom/country, but yes, they married each other shortly before they decided to try for a child, so about 2 years after they reunited.
Not much really changed for them when it comes to formality, mostly because I don't think that's really a thing in Hallownest, or at least in Dirtmouth (they don't even have a last name to share, among other things). I think they really just wanted to take that next step in their relationship, and "husbands" shows a much closer bond than "partners" or "lovers" (this one they never used, Grimm was especially against calling FPK his lover; it reminded him of his many casual experiences in the past, and he didn't want to ever paint FPK as just another lover of his).
As to what the wedding would look like... I think wedding traditions vary greatly between the different communities in Hallownest. Dirtmouth's traditions are nearly non existent since most of its population died or left Hallownest, and there are very few records on what a traditional wedding in that community looked like. The wedding between WL and FPK was completely different, soul and the Kingsoul fragments being a key part of it, and there was a huge event accompanying it, with many important guests from different kingdoms being present.
Despite his love for spectacles, Grimm wanted their wedding to be small in scale, more intimate, an idea FPK very much shared. One tradition I really like from Celtic rituals is handfasting, the act of tying the hands of the two partners with some kind of cloth or ribbon. So that would be a part of their wedding, the main element of the ceremony, very small in scale but one that carries much symbolism for them, signifying their eternal bond. I do love the idea of Grimm witnessing this tradition in another land and wanting to share it with FPK. The cloth used to tie their hands during the ceremony is basically their equivalent of wedding rings, and they keep it safely displayed in their house.
After the main ceremony, they would hold a small feast for the Dirtmouth community in the main Troupe building (by that point, the Troupe built more permanent homes and structures, as opposed to the tents they lived in prior). Or perhaps there is some kind of longhouse-esque building in the town where the residents gather for such events? I do quite like that idea, especially since my vision of the Hallownest region takes a lot of inspiration from Nordic/Germanic elements (playing Skyrim solidified that vision even further hahaha).
Of course, the actual feast would be significantly smaller in scale than the event held at WL and FPK's wedding, the Dirtmouth community was still very small at that point, so it was really just FPK, Grimm, their family and their friends, though they did also invite any newcomers - they value the community greatly, so they wanted their wedding to also bring the Dirtmouth folk together.
Then everything returned to normal, basically. Like I said, there were no formalities involved, they already lived together, and again, they had no last name to share. They did receive a letter from Lurien congratulating them on the marriage, with a small wedding present attached. I mentioned if before, but he's the only remaining Dreamer who is now the head of the City of Tears; he's on good terms with FPK and Grimm, the latter of whom he has a certain deal with, regarding Grimm's vampiric activities and the bandits plaguing the city. So he would eventually hear that the two got married, and would send them his best wishes.
And no, WL was not present at the wedding. FPK tries to stay on friendly terms with her but it's very clear that they're not close. She congratulated them but did not attend the ceremony herself, she was too occupied with her mansion court and its business, and besides, it would be incredibly awkward for everyone involved (and with FPK's history with her and their unhappy marriage, not to mention his fear of upsetting her that still resides in his mind years after they separated, chances are that her presence would ruin the special day for him). She was perfectly fine with it, though. By that point she had already moved on and had her own life, so she wasn't upset about the wedding or not attending it.
---
Side tangent, but I'm definitely steering FPK's dynamic with WL to be a bit more... distant, I suppose. Exploring what their marriage was like in the AU made me realize that them being close friends now wouldn't really make sense, if anything, it would be a bit unfair to FPK. That's not to say they dislike one another, far from it, but FPK definitely puts a lot more effort than he really needs to with maintaining the good terms. He'd be well within his right to just forget about her after how poorly she treated him while they were married, but I think him being slightly naive and too kind for his own good is a very interesting aspect of his personality. And while WL still has many regrets about her treatment of him, I think making their dynamic more distant would be better for both of them. No spiteful exes deal, no cliche hatred between WL and FPK's new partner, I think them keeping a distance is more reasonable and mature. So basically, instead of seeing them as friends, WL treats FPK and Grimm as special guests whenever they visit her mansion. Formal and a tad awkward, very fitting for her personality, but still showing good will on her side.

What fun fact about piglin culture do you have that you probably won’t get to incorporate into the story?
I've been saving this ask for a rainy day, but honestly it's been hanging long enough. So! Let's talk about piglin wedding customs! *jazzhands*
The first step is courting gifts. Food, swords, pretty trinkets. This is to display of being able to provide and protect, as well as knowing the other person well enough to know what they like/have need for.
There is no bachelor/ette party, instead, the night before the wedding, each of the pair will gather with already married friends/family to get advice on married life. It's usually older relatives of the same gender, but anyone who seems like they'd have good advice will qualify. This happens during a nice, casual dinner, with some booze to loosen tongues and soothe nerves.
The Nether is a harsh place, so there isn't really the time or resources to throw a big fancy party. It's celebrated, but it's usually not terribly formal. Friends and family in your own home instead of some big venue, your Sunday best instead of some fancy gown. Ain't nobody got time for a white dress that's impossible to get clean or sugar cakes.
The main part of the wedding is The Walk. The married couple needs to live together, they share the same resources and defend the same area. Piglins wouldn't recognise a couple who long-term live separately as Properly Married. The Walk is done with both parties with their hair loose, and it begins at the home of the piglin who's moving in, and together the pair walk to their new shared home while holding hands the whole way. Letting the hands go unless under attack is considered a bad omen.
Officially, The Walk is metaphorical about setting off to the path of life together. It showcases that the pair can work as a team, defending themselves from whatever they might come across together. It's also a sign of publicity, and a sign of consent. Everyone can (and should!) see the couple, since it's a declaration that this is the person I choose, this is the person I'll defend and care for. Secret marriages don't count. Also you can't do The Walk if you, say, kidnapped the other person, they'd run off or at the very least will very publicly look upset. That's where the show of consent comes in.
When the pair arrives, the guests are already there waiting, with an officiant. The officiant is just whoever keeps the records about the citizens, usually the chief of the clan. They can be asked to do a speech or a thing with vows, but they're there mostly for bookkeeping reasons. They'll say something about getting on with making babies asap 99% of the time.
The pair are expected to write their own vows. There are things that often come up, but the point is to say what you mean and proclaim your love. During the vows, the pair will tie each others hair into a ponytail, as a public showcase of trust and commitment. Doing a complex hairdo is a common event once the party starts.
After the vows, there is a dope feast, and after that it's a nice, casual party. Dancing, stories, drinks. It's a good time.
Now for the depressing bonus tidbit: Since Techno's dad wasn't allowed in the village, and his mom couldn't come to the Overworld, they couldn't ever have a proper piglin wedding. The closest they came was the one time the mom visited and almost died of zombification.

Once more happy WBW, Morri!
Are there certain apsects/rituals of marriage or marriage politics between the realms?
YAY!! I finally get a chance to talk about weddings in the world of ATQH!!!
First things first: NO WHITE WEDDINGS. White weddings are only popular in Western culture due to Queen Victoria choosing to wear a white wedding dress, which then started a wave of white weddings, and the tradition stuck. Why, then, would there be white weddings in a world where Queen Victoria never has or never will exist? There wouldn't be.
A very long, very involved ramble about weddings in all three kingdoms under the cut!! Idk if it makes any since, and it's definitely a mess, but hopefully you learn something from it! :)
So, in Anvia, if those getting married are of noble blood, it's typical for the marrying couple to either A) wear their own house colors or B) wear their spouse's house colors in a show of unity and respect for your new family.
Side Note: For this reason, among others, Fallon and Kristopher will both wear red when getting married. Fallon, since that is one of her royal colors, and one often associated with ceremony or important events, and Kristopher as an extra fuck you to his family. <3 (P.S. this is also why he will (spoilers!!) take Fallon's last name.)
If you're not a noble, and thus don't have any kind of house colors, people typically get married in light, airy colors, including pale greens, yellows, blues, pinks, and yes, the occasional white. This is because these colors are associated with new life and new beginnings. For the same reason, most weddings are held in the spring or early summer, since that is the time of new growth and new beginnings.
Wedding ceremonies vary from wedding to wedding, as the exact proceedings and set-up are determined by the couple and/or their families. But typically there are elements that echo a Western wedding in our world. Vows are exchanged during the ceremony (with the vows typically being written or chosen by the couple), and then a celebration with a large festive meal and dancing afterwards. Because Anvian weddings are often held in the spring, they're also often held outside, though a pavilion or tent often shelters the tables in case of rain.
(Noble weddings are more likely to involve indoors, be it a ceremony in a chapel, or dancing in the ballroom afterwards. This is partly because non-nobles are not likely to have space to host all of their family and friends in their homes.)
In Oryn, weddings are a much more subdued affair. They're usually more for formality's sake than anything else, and also much smaller. Usually just the family of the couple, along with occasionally a few close friends.
It's not uncommon for marriages to be arranged months or years in advance in Oryn, but always with the consent of the parties involved. It's against the law to force someone into a marriage against their will, and both parties must give their consent. But still, marriages are likely to be arranged or planned. That doesn't necessarily mean they're not a love match, as many families will allow their children to find a suitable partner who they actually care for before arranging for a marriage.
But yeah, marriages are much less of a party and much more of a legal / social formality, as well as a necessity. Oryn has much more traditionalist views than Anvia, and has some degree of prejudice against public romantic relationships prior to marriage.
Marriages between commoners are usually not arranged, but they may still be on occasion. Commoner marriages are short and simple, since they are likely unable to afford any kind of celebration.
Oraine, on the other hand, is all about going over-the top, at lest when it comes to the nobles. Families will try to out-do the other in terms of procuring the most expensive food, most lavish venue, or most beautiful attire. Since relationships outside of marriage are widely accepted and quite normal in Oraine, weddings are more of a chance to show off your wealth and celebrate in style.
Commoners in Oraine will either remain unmarried, or marry for the purposes of joint ownership or control of assets, such as a business, a house, etc. Marriage is not seen as necessary to prove one's devotion in Oraine, so commoners might not go through the trouble and expense, unless they have a reason to do so.
If they choose not to marry, people in Oraine will likely still have some sort of commitment ceremony, or exchange gifts or express their serious commitment to each other in some way. Be it via exchanging jewelry, or some other way to show their dedication.

Random Worldbuilding Questions
Are there any foods with symbolic meanings that are eaten on special occasions (e.g. katsudon for victory, or new years oranges for luck)? How did the tradition get started?
We all know about weddings and marriage, but are there any ceremonies that symbolically / legally / magically officialize a different type of relationship in your world's culture? (Adoption, apprenticeship, friendship, etc.)
What's a rule or social norm that is widely followed in theory, but in practice everyone knows it's not a big deal and breaks it all the time?
Are there any trades or hobbies whose practitioners are stereotyped as weird or extraordinary? (E.g. the "mad hatter" trope.) Why? How true is this perception?
What are some cliches, tropes, and/or plots that commonly appear in stories written by your world's inhabitants? What were they inspired by? Why are they popular?
What is a common way to subtly insult someone in your world, without crossing into overt rudeness? Gifting an item with negative connotations? Addressing them more familiarly or formally than normal? Backhanded compliments?
If you pulled a random average Joe off the streets of your world and asked them to draw a house, what would they draw? (Shape, roof style, position and number of windows, etc.)
Is there a place in your world that nobody has ever been to - the bottom of a cave, the moon, another dimension, etc.? How do people know it exists? Why haven't they gone there? What do they believe it's like, and how right/wrong are they?
What aesthetics are considered "advanced" or "futuristic" in your world - canvas wings, shiny chrome, smooth plastic? How has this changed over time?
What's a fun fact about your world that you as the worldbuilder are dying to share, but nobody ever thinks to ask?

This Week in BL - I Gave a 10/10 to a BL... me!
Organized, in each category, by ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
Nov 2023 Wk 3
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
My Dear Gangster Oppa (Thurs iQIYI) ep 4 of 8 - I love this show. I adore Tew's the simple backstory. No frills. No fuss. He got dragged in the way many do and he can kill so they kept him. They aren’t trying to make it needlessly complicated (which is rare for Thailand). That said, the pacing is way tf off, the emotional arc is rushed and then sappy out of absolutely nowhere. Before you ask, the kiss is not at issue, we halfway through they should be kissing, but the romantic life changes - too soon. But I don’t care. Finally, they left us this ep reminded of 2 v important things,
this pair kisses beautifully
in BL all mafia be gay
Fun fun!
Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 2 of 12 - It's official, I love this. It’s a classic caregiver/bodyguard trope where one of them is opening the other one up to the world, but sweetly. I’m enjoying the softness of JimmySea's take and I hope GMM TV takes its cues from the success of My School President and doesn’t push this particular show into rough or edgy territory. Stay on target GMMTV. Don't mess with my bias again!
Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 3 of 10 - Finally, our adorable side couple has emerged! This show remains engaging without losing pace (despite the main couple being slow burn), which is all I want from a Thai pulp, and more I could ask for currently from a sports BL.
(Note: when I dictate the computer always puts "Thai pope" instead of Thai pulp - this is hilarious to me.)
Tumblr media
Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 1 of 14 - I guess they didn’t strip the omegaverse out of this. Unfortunately, I’m not an omegaverse fan, so I find its presence extremely off putting. (But it’s kind of amazing that somebody finally put one on our screen.) Unsurprisingly, it’s a lot of alpha posturing and hyper masculinity, because that’s what this kind of worldbuilding is an excuse for (lazy writing and lazier characterization). This means I don’t like Babe AT ALL except that he’s smell orientated and a bit verse. Way is lovely tho, because Nut is a great soft screen presence amongst the testosterone haze.
Middleman’s Love (Fri YT & iQIYI ep 2 of 8 - I’m not gonna lie (when have I ever bothered to lie to you all?) I’m struggling with this show. The sound effects are getting worse. That is not allowed. Still I found this installment slightly more bearable than the last last, probably because there was more of the cast in play and less of Jade being too cringe to live.
Absolute Zero (Weds iQIYI) ep 8 of 12 - AKA temporal paradox of pain.
My Universe (Sun iQIYI) Friends Forever ep 13 of 24 - Ooo it’s a bit of a teacher/student (coach/player) thing. Linguistic negotiation and kinkification of phi. Also actually kinky. But not consensually. Gonna get dark. Bummer.
Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 1 of 14(!) eps - Whines. Must I? Gaga doesn’t have a skip ahead button. Sad sack main characters really do not work for me. But this was better than I expected. I wasn’t expecting much.
Look: This is helmed by Cheewin (shudder) with screenplay by Den (Only Friends - shudder the second) under Copy A Bangkok (they deserve not my shuddders). It's gonna be a shizz show people. It's Thai dark War of Y style - my least favorites. Apparently, there is meant to be a "plot" but when has Cheewin ever bothered with plot?
On a completely different note does the blond look like that Korean actor/idol from At a Distance Spring is Green & Wanna One to anyone else? Or is it just me? (Park Ji Hoon)
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
A Breeze of Love (Korea iQIYI) eps 3-4 of 8 - I like it a lot. Dongwook is so obtuse and socially awkward and reserved and needy and Dohyun is so gay over and simultaneously wildly confused by this behavior. Fantastic. A bit stiff, even for Korea, btu I'm okay with it since everything else I'm watching right now is decidedly NOT stiff.
I finished it!
Let's Eat Together Aki and Haru AKA Aki wa Haru to Gohan wo - Japan BL movie 1.5 hr
Best friends life together during university - cheerful sunshine loves to cook, grumpy tsundere loves to eat. Aki is a bit manic pixie dream boy for me (not my favorite archetype) but they’re cute and it’s one of those Japanese slice of life pieces like Our Dining Table that isn’t really a romance in fact it’s barely a drama. This isn’t friends to lovers because they’re basically already in a relationship (which everyone around them knows) they just aren’t fucking. I did spend a lot of time worrying that they weren’t eating any green things whatsoever. In the end this isn’t my thing when there’s no kissing at all, and this was a bit too dull even for JBL. Sorry Japan, one cannot trade on cute and cheese alone. I know, you want to. But that's not a BL or a personality. 6/10
Tumblr media
I Cannot Reach You AKA I Can't Reach You AKA Kimi ni wa Todokanai (Japan, maybe coming to Netflix) 8 eps - This classic friends-to-lovers BL is everything Japan does best. Angsty. Emo. Aching. Driven by real thirst. Yamato is deeply in love with his childhood bestie, Kakeru, and has been for ages, unable to hide his ungainly damaging high school need. He wants Kakeru in every way possible and it oozes off of the screen. Kakeru is silly and a little simple, but not frenetic or overly camp about it. He is earnest, and genuinely wants to keep Yamato in his life which means giving a romance (and gayness) a fair chance. We watch him realize his affection and what form it can take in a truly authentic way. This show was impossibly kind to both of its lead characters and I felt honored that I got to watch something so lovely and rare play out on my screen.
I LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS. IT'S SO GOOD.
10/10
Let me be perfectly clear: I have watched 646 BLs and only handed out nine 10/10s.
I talk more about why this one made the cut, here.
It's Airing But...
One Room Angel (Japan Gaga) 6 eps - adaptation of Harada’s manga (which I did not like) about a clerk who's stabbed, nearly dies, and returns home to find an angel waiting for him. With only 5 eps and a good chance this won’t end happy, I'm gonna wait and let you tell me how it goes.
SHADOW (Thai Gaga) 14 eps - I'm not wild about Thai horror (or horror at all) even one featuring Singto and Fluke. I'm holding off on this one and if told it's good I'll binge later.
Beyond The Star (Weds iQIYI) 8 eps - House of Stars meets Boyband. I was NOT impressed. Waiting to be told if I should bother.
What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - I find this series more fun to binge, so I'm waiting until it completes its run.
Next Week Looks Like This
Tumblr media
STARTING
11/20 Bake Me Please (Mon Gaga) ep 1 of 6 - trailer here, stars Ohm (of OhmFluke) opposite Guide (bestie from IFYLITA). This looks like an actually gay version of Antique Bakery (play it again, BL). I'm intrigued, it looks HELLA pretty.
11/22 7 Days Before Valentine (Weds ????) ep 1 of 10 - trailer here, horror-esk. Adapted from y-novel of the same name, directed by Tu (180 Degree) stars Jet (Why You… Y Me?). When you want your old love again, but fate sends you a reaper instead. All he can do for you is kill people. I'll likely give this a pass and wait to binge if safe.
11/24 VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - Screenplay by Lin Pei Yu (WBL) about a chef who courts a shy writer with spicy beef noodles.
11/25 The Sign (Sat ????) ep 1 of 10 - trailer here, horror-esk, but with a suspense and adult characters. Special investigators who loved each other in previous lives reunite in new bodies. Stars Billy Patchanon (BillySeng) & Babe Tanatat (new). Includes other SCOY favorites as a special investigation team. I may give this a try (depending on distribution) because I'm into the non-horror bits.
11/26 The Whisperer (Sun ????) 1 of 10 - trailer here. Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). He has dimples (My Ride) but I don't think even that gives me the will. You can tell me how this goes.
11/26 Cooking Crush (Sun YT) 1 of 12 - OffGun are back, trailer here. Adapted from the novel “Love Course! เสื้อกาวน์รุกเสื้อกุ๊กรับ” by iJune4S this is about Prem who runs a not-so-popular restaurant with 2 friends. About to go on a cooking competition with a huge reward, Prem gets involved with Ten, a stressed-out med student who wants Prem to teach him to cook.
Still Coming November BL
11/30 For Him (Thurs ????) ep 1 of 10 - high heat trailer, I suspect iQIYI will scoop this one up. From the people who brought us Unforgotten Night (please no) based on a y-novel, man nursing a heartbreak has a one-night stand, but the other boy didn't want it to end. It looks terribly trashy so I'm in! Maybe I'll do a trash watch?
Nov 2023 line up with screen caps here. Not kept updated.
Original 2023 forthcoming BL master post (see comments, some are inaccurate, NOT KEPT UPDATED).
THIS WEEK’S BEST MOMENTS
Tumblr media
To be fair this was last week but I did get the screen shot until now. (You are Mine)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I Cannot Reach You serving all Japan's favorite tropes plus some very un-Japan decent kisses.

My friend asked me to draw them on their wedding day (bc I drew Chintan and Jamil).
Some oc ranting for my own comfort.. Their names are Lihay and Panganoron. In my wip, there is a dominion called Sasaban.. and its in danger of occupation by its neighbor (called Janalila, which is a rajahnate and extremely powerful.). Sasaban's population is mostly coded Muslim.. and it is a sultanate- Panganoron is the heir, their crown prince under a regent, and he is mostly shunned by his people. Mainly because he follows a different religion from his state religion (like imagine if the sultan of Brunei's son was a Buddhist.) . And Panganoron is seen as "weak".. he is very gentle, soft-spoken, academia inclined rather than cunning and war-like as the rest of his predecessors. (His father followed the state religion, his mother was indigenous). Panganoron is keen on proving himself worthy of being sultan, but he had a tendency of being distracted by socioeconomics rather than warding off forces and marching off into the battlefronts- Panganoron built soup kitchens and schools rather than amassing armies, and he is staunchly anti war and anti caste systems- but because of the looming occupation, Panganoron has no real power or resources to challenge the harmful pre-existing hierarchies in Sasaban. Anyways. Panganoron was offered a way out of war with the neighboring country of Janalila, if he married a princess from a different dominion- a theocracy called Kalantiaw, the oldest and the most noble dominion in their world; The princess' name was Maitreyi. If he married her, not even Janalila would dare make enemies of Sasaban and Kalantiaw both.
Panganoron was game, but since all the borders and ports were tightly guarded, Panganoron would have to make his way to Kalantiaw in disguise, with a skeleton crew, and through old , forgotten passageways, and roads that are called "witherways", magical, and only existing within certain, precisely calculated timeframes, of which only certain groups of indigenous people could do.
Lihay is. Well. He is an "uripon"- the lowest of the low in their social classes- indentured to servitude for the rest of his life, very sick from working in the mines.. in my world building, primordial dragons were so large, their hollowed out bones were mined for thousands and thousands of years for coal that burned for decades, so hot it could cremate a cadaver in minutes- working in such mines was very dangerous- guaranteed anyone who spent more than a couple of hours in it would suffer a tamer version of radiation poisoning- but many miners become disfigured, with their skin melting and rotting. Sasaban deals with this by only making lepers and the lowliest uripon mine- Lihay had lived all his life in the dragon-mines, but he was also indigenous- and he knew his way around the witherways.. so.
Lihay is very shy. He is trans, autistic and mute, and he has an enormous crush on Panganoron; Lihay agrees to be their guide, in exchange for his freedom from the mines, freedom from being an uripon, to a maharlika (freeman, I borrowed it from tagalog for my worldbuilding. In the real world, Timawa would be more appropriate)..
Either way. Lihay and Panganoron, traveling together with Panganoron's small entourage, fall in love, which is Very Bad for Panganoron, when the fate of his kingdom rely on him marrying Maitreyi of Kalantiaw- and Very Very Bad when the person he falls in love with is someone like Lihay.
Btw, Panganoron's name means "the clouds that gather at the mountaintop" in Tagalog. (And Bicol), while Lihay's name (Dalihayang) is from a made up language, and it means "twenty four.). But later, Panganoron gives him the name "Hininwon", which means "cherished one" ! ! :')
Ps ps.
Panganoron's eyes are supposed to look like wayang kulit akdksk

Worldbuilding Wed 5/25
Happy Wednesday, Worldbuilders! This week, I wanna talk about plants! Big or small, give me a plant fact (my blackberry bush is putting out flowers and I'm stupid excited about it, so its all plants all the time in the Raevenly brain). Do folks keep them indoors as decor, or maybe even for practical uses? Are there poisonous, sentient, or otherwise problematic plants in the wilds? Is your world a desolate wasteland, with every scrap of green being treasured? Tell me all about :D
This is an open ask, for anyone to answer! For more open worldbuilding prompts, be sure to check out @worldbuildingwedasks

Suncrest Campaign: Coda (Or: The Bugbear Wedding)
(Listen. Everyone in this campaign gets to craft their perfect ending and epilogue--this one, this last little bit of worldbuilding and giving everyone a vignette to close out on, was my parting gift to myself.)
First and foremost, it's important to establish: The bugbear wedding ceremony is genderless.
The roles are not bride/groom, male/female. Bugbear culture is pretty universally military, or military-adjacent, in a way that largely elides those kinds of strict gender roles. The core concern in a bugbear wedding is the blending of clans, of families or villages, and that can happen in any number of ways.
In a bugbear wedding, the stark thematic divide is which partner belongs to the "host" clan, and which is the newcomer. In a very real sense, nothing else matters. And...not necessarily in the way you think.
When we open on this ceremony: Thesh Nightshadow, daughter of the clan chieftain, is dressed in her full ceremonial armor and looking both elated and terrified. She checks in with the party, briefly, then goes to wait beside a massive, laden banquet table.
This table is both the central display of the wedding, and an eloquent thesis on how bugbears view a marriage.
Thesh, in this marriage, is the host clan. She grew up in the Talonholde clan; her father is its leader; she stands to inherit that position. Her friends and rivals and neighbors are all here--they all know her, they all have twenty-odd years of memories together, favors traded, arguments resolved. A history and a mutual understanding of one another, even if they don't necessarily like each other.
Paisley, on the other hand? Even if she wasn't human...she grew up in the neighboring village of Thistledale, and while of course she'll remain in close contact with her family, she's obviously going to be joining the clan of the chieftain's daughter.
Bugbears understand: This places the newcomer in a position of incredible vulnerability.
Paise is very familiar with Talonholde, but in a lot of marriages the incoming partner won't have had time to do that, just for pure practicality reasons. And even so...she loves the place, they accept her, she feels safe, but she doesn't have nearly the same level of...connection. She wasn't born here. Her new neighbors haven't seen her at her best and worst for years, enough to feel secure in knowing her character. She knows few of them very well, and none of them as well as her own people. She is leaving her family home for this marriage, and all she has in return is pure trust that her new clan will protect her as well as her old one would have.
To bugbear sensibilities, the idea of a dowry is obscene. You are asking for this immense sacrifice, this profound leap of faith--and you have the gall to ask them to prove themselves? To contribute material wealth and resources? That's disgusting. That's horrific. That's not a marriage. That kind of callous trade would be demeaning to cattle.
It is the host clan's responsibility to prove their worth. It is one hundred percent on Thesh's shoulders to show her new wife that she will be accepted and embraced by her new clan.
Thus: The table.
Now, Thesh herself is obviously in a position of considerable influence, so her display table is a massive buffet in the center of the village, laden with every possible food and drink imaginable and a gorgeously posed roast stag, with antlers intact for dramatic effect, as the centerpiece--a stag she hunted herself, because this is as much a statement to her home clan as it is to her wife. However, prominently featured among the feast--brought to the front and present in great numbers, so everyone can clearly see it, are five items:
Bread
Fruit
Cheese
Mead and/or Wine
Freshly-slaughtered meat, with a bowl containing the blood of the animal as proof.
Those five items are required for the marriage ceremony. Combined, they represent all the collective resources of a village--none of which should be so punishing that a poor family is unable to source them for a special occasion, but representing a real investment all the same. The requirement isn't meant to be a class barrier--the items can be present in small amounts, the fruit can be preserved, the mead can be in the form of raw honey if you really must--but you need to be able to demonstrate a willingness to try.
(The meat MUST be fresh. It does not have to be something as dramatic as a deer. Most families kill a goat or a pig, or put out a snare for rabbit. What is required for the marriage to be considered valid is that it cannot be smoked, dried, salted, etc--it must be a current, intentional sacrifice of livestock (demonstrating your willingness to give up something valuable for this person's sake) or freshly-hunted game (demonstrating your ability to either hunt yourself or purchase/barter game from a hunter). This, again, isn't meant to be a class barrier--but in addition to bugbear tradition demanding a willingness to make real sacrifice in the newcomer's name, the blood is used in the ceremony itself.)
A horn is blown or a drum is beaten, the gates of the village (or, if this were a smaller private ceremony, the gate of the farm or some other boundary-line delineation of a family's property) open, and the new clan member enters.
Paisley is also dressed in her best--an apprentice's tunic from the university where she studied to become an Artificer--but otherwise, she carries nothing. No entourage (her family and friends are obviously present but they don't walk in with her), no offerings--just a woven basket filled with wildflowers, matching the flowers woven into her cloak for the occasion.
(Traditionally it's a very literal "cloak of flowers", woven entirely from intertwined wildflower stems, but that is insanely difficult and pretty much everyone just weaves flowers into a canvas base.)
This, too, is symbolic: The newcomer brings only themselves, and that which can be gathered freely. Paisley has nothing to prove.
They meet in front of the banquet table where Thesh is waiting with a village elder, and the bowl of blood over a low brazier--not hot, just enough to keep it liquid.
The host clan's gestures are made first--three promises, an oath of what they intend to offer their newest member. The bugbear elder dips his fingers in the stag's blood; he draws two fingers down Paisley's forehead (for honesty), then dips his thumb and makes a single mark in the center of chin (for stability). He then offers the bowl to Thesh, who dips both thumbs in the blood and draws them along Paisley's cheekbones, cupping her face in the process--protection.
Paisley's gestures are made if and only if she accepts the host clan's demonstrations as legitimate and sufficient. Obviously, she does.
She hands her basket to the elder, and takes out her own gestures in order. First, a necklace of flowers that she places around Thesh's neck (new life). Second, a woven flower crown on her head (new ideas). And then, finally, she sweeps the flower cape off her back and throws it around Thesh's shoulders instead--this often gets some laughter because throughout the whole process, Thesh hasn't actually stopped holding Paise's face between her hands, so it can be a little awkward.
That last gesture symbolizes Paisley fully embracing her new clan--she's not expected to sever any ties, of course, but it's a transfer of primary loyalty. Talonholde is her clan now, fully and completely--they've embraced her as their own and offered her not only the rights of a member but also the acceptance and support of a neighbor, and in turn, she's offered them herself in her entirety.
There is then, obviously, a lot of crying and a big feast, all that food wasn't for show.
Paise and Thesh's little background romance was lowkey one of my favorite things to seed into this campaign--as soon as I realized Nim's sister was going to be central to the werewolf arc, I also knew I had to give her a dykey little interspecies romance. (There was initially going to be a like, paranoid little mutual-suspicion thing going on where Talonholde and Thistledale both accused each other of kidnapping or murder, but by that point I knew my players wouldn't bite on that at all and it was more interesting to have the two villages be historically cordial--not friendly, but not hostile.)
They were both taken by the wolf cult during a gay little meeting at the crossroads between their villages, a thing they apparently did almost every week to exchange the letters they'd write during the week. Nim's family presented this as, you know, Paise being a smart girl and Thesh also being real smart and they share a lot of wild ideas, but the whole party immediately went OH??? and they were correct.
When they found the girls, Thesh was half dead--when the werewolves took Paisley to torture as bait, Thesh tried to protect her. They broke her jaw and left it untreated for days; without Andromeda's timely healing magic, she likely wouldn't have survived another night. The party got everyone out of the camp safely--some by the skin of their teeth, but they did it--and, well.
Look, they were the very image of propriety when they reunited, okay. But Thesh dragging herself back from death's door and IMMEDIATELY trying to tell their rescuers that the cult had taken Paisley--refusing to run until she knew she was safe, in fact--was pretty telling. And then when they got everyone back to Albion's thicket Paise basically ignored her rescued neighbors in favor of scrambling up to Thesh and running frantic hands over her jaw and ears and ribs and--
Nim thinks they're adorable and is fully supportive. He DOES have to rib his baby sister a little bit though. Big brother instinct goes both ways.

TWICK OR TWEEEEEAT 🎃✨
:D
a little treat! i was trying to participate in bottom bruce october and day 24's prompts (arranged marriage au, chastity vow, tender sex, spoils of war) gave me brainrot.... but then Life Happened so all i ended up with was this bit of worldbuilding and then some misc. pwp stuff. not enough to put on ao3 sadly 😔
superbat 440 word snippet, rated M-ish, DKoS-style fake medieval fantasy AU but bruce and clark are unrelated
warnings: reference to averted, non-graphic noncon
---
“Rao. Look at you.”
The words are soft, almost reverent, and a sheer wave of relief rolls through Bruce, knowing who it is. “I can’t do that with this thing on,” he says, before he can stop himself and act properly demure. There’s a pause of a second, and then the man snorts, with bemused delight. It’s Kal.
They’d met, a few times, when the kingdoms had come together for the Continental Games. It’s an unbelievable stroke of luck - or Fate’s kind intervention - that Kal, his betrothed, is the one to find him, blindfolded, naked, and trussed up after the shameful attack by the White Army.
Heavy footsteps approach. “I’m going to take this off.” Bruce appreciates the warning, doesn’t start when Kal’s warm, large hands tilt his head forward and undo the blindfold. Irritatingly, he looks as impeccable as always, handsome and unblemished as if he’d come straight from a portrait sitting. He smiles reassuringly at Bruce, and then sets to work on the bindings that hold him to the - there’s no other word for it - breeding bench.
“Kara-te’s finishing off the last of their forces,” he says, undoing the bonds at Bruce’s neck and chest. Bruce sits up, and Kal undoes his hands, then steps back. He knows Bruce would rather get the last of the bonds off himself.
Bruce grunts, working at the bonds that hold his torso and thighs down. Much as he hates admitting it, he might need Kal’s help with the spreader bar. Where…
“Do you - uh - here’s your cage,” Kal says.
The sight of Kal holding his chastity cage, not quite looking him in the eye, sends a bit of a shiver through Bruce. He’d imagined this scenario before, Kal holding it, but Kal’s wearing much less clothing in his imaginings.
“Thanks,” he says shortly, and fastens it on before his cock can rise too much. Just the idea of Kal’s having touched his cage, held it, sends a shiver through him. The Whites had known what a humiliation it would be for the Wayne prince to be ravaged before his wedding. They hadn’t counted on Kal’s… being Kal about it.
Kal’s watching him with - undisguised arousal. Bruce’s cock jerks a little against the cage, as it always does when he remembers that the little steel contraption would make no difference to Kal, if he wanted to take Bruce. If Bruce asked him to, if Bruce begged him to, he could kneel down before Bruce, and those gentle fingers could prize apart the metal as easily as plucking a rose.
The cage is getting steadily more uncomfortable. Bruce clears his throat. “Let’s go.”
