Otogi has never thought of himself as particularly scientifically-minded. A healthy respect for the subject, sure. But the three separate times he’s had to have the very basics of stoichiometry explained to him and his solidly average grades regarding the same certainly do not speak to an easy knack for it. After a moment of thought, he wordlessly digs his phone out of his jacket pocket, nonchalantly bringing up his browser.

Then, after a few seconds of reading about the shape of space-time and the distance of the observable universe (and how far is a light year, again?) and feeling his brain slowly unspool, “...Internet says maybe.”

Oh, he does. Furiously, at times, though those particular episodes of intense rumination are rare. Far more often, he envisions the future as a message shoved haphazardly into a descending, slowly-deflating balloon, one he is quite desperately trying to keep in the air lest it burst and reveal what it is he can’t wholly ignore.

But this isn’t the kind of question someone asks when they are legitimately curious of another’s feelings; it’s one that is asked when that someone is seeking reassurance. It isn’t that he’s hesitant to open up, he thinks— it’s that being truthful and vulnerable isn’t what will be helpful in this case. So, chin in his hand, regarding Yugi beside him in a studying manner (no, the other Yugi, he corrects himself), Otogi starts with, “...Sure. I think everyone does.”

Looking away, knowing that honesty is often more difficult with rapt attention, he also adds, “Something about the future got you down?”
