For the ask thing: pokedex, pokeball and aerial ace
Heck yesss! \o/
Pokédex: Your perfect/favorite team
Oh my goodness, I have so many ideas I could do here lol... okay uh, I'll do a team set of what I would've picked if I had gotten Scarlet/Violet!
So that's Meowscarada, Maushold, Ceruledge, Tinkaton, Clodsire, annnd Baxcalibur! Since Gen 5/6, I always try to play with a team of just Pokemon that have been introduced in the gen of whichever game I'm playing, and try to avoid type overlap. I've done it for replays of older Pokemon games too! :>
Pokéball: Favorite Gen II Pokémon
Definitely Shuckle, mostly from the fact that it's my favorite overall Pokemon anyways, lol. I guess second favorite from Gen II would be Lugia for sure.
Aerial Ace: Favorite Flying types(s)
Okay I know I just mentioned Lugia which is Psychic/Flying but like? I wouldn't count it as my favorite among Flying types to be honest. So, my favorite Flying type is actually Bombirdier!
It's such a hilarious concept to me, a classical baby-delivering stork, but it's like "Oh, you come to deliver baby?" "No, I come to deliver ROCK to your HEAD. >:) " loool

every once in a while i like to poke my head into "anti [x]" tags just to see what the other side thinks. recently i was looking through "anti ao3" and found a really funny post claiming that ao3 is not anticapitalist, but actually the Definition Of Capitalism, bc it relies on volunteer labor while supposedly having the money to pay a staff.
oh, honey.
but i am not going to make unsubstantiated claims on the internet, no, and this gives me an excuse to look at ao3's whole budget myself, which i've been meaning to do for a while. these numbers are taken from the 2022 budget post and budget spreadsheet.
ao3's total income for 2022, from the two donation drives, regular donations, donation matching programs, interest, and royalties was $1,012,543.42. less than $300 of that was from interest and royalties, so it's almost all donations. and that's a lot, right? surely an organization making a million dollars a year can afford to pay some staff, right?
well, let's look at expenses. first of all, they lose almost $37,000 to transaction fees right away. ao3 and fanlore (~$341k and ~$18k, respectively) take up the biggest chunks of the budget by far. that money pays for, to quote the 2022 budget post, "server expenses—both new purchases and ongoing colocation and maintenance—website performance monitoring tools, and various systems-related licenses."
in some years, otw also pays external contractors to perform audits for security issues, and for more servers to handle the growing userbase. servers are expensive as hell, guys. in 2022, new server costs alone were $203k.
each of their other programs only cost around $3,000 or less, and otw paid around $78k for fundraising and development. wait, how do you lose so much money on your fundraising?? from the 2022 budget post: "Our fundraising and development expenses consist of transaction fees charged by our third-party payment processors for each donation, thank-you gift purchases and shipping, and the tools used to host the OTW’s membership database and track communications with donors and potential donors."
then the otw paid an additional $74k in administration expenses, which covers "hosting for our website, trademarks, domains, insurance, tax filing, and annual financial statement audits, as well as communication, management, and accounting tools."
in case you weren't following all of that math, the total expenses for 2022 come out to $518,978.48. woah! that's a lot! but it's still only a little over half of their net revenue. weird. i wonder what they do with that extra $494k?
well, $400k of it goes to the reserves, which i'll get to in a second. the last $93k, near as i can tell, gets rolled over to the next year. i'll admit this part i'm a little unsure about, as it's not clear on the spreadsheet, but that's the only thing that makes sense.
the reserves, though are clear. the most recent post i could find on the otw site about it were in the board meeting minutes from april 2, 2022: "We’re holding about $1million in operating cash that is about twice the amount of our annual operating costs. There is another $1million in reserves due to highly successful fundraisers in the past. The current plan for the reserves is to hold the money for paid staff in the future. It’s been talked about before in the past and we’re still working out the details, but it’s a rather expensive undertaking that will result in large annual expenses in addition to the initial cost of implementation."
woah....they're PLANNING to have paid staff eventually! wild!
so let's assume, for easy numbers, that the otw currently has $1.5 million in reserves. before we even get to how to use that money, let's look at the issues with implementing paid staff:
deciding which positions are going to be paid, because it can't be all of them
deciding how much to pay them, bc minimum wage sure as hell isn't enough, and cost of living is different everywhere, and volunteers come from all over the world
hiring staff and implementing new systems/tools to handle things like payroll and accounting
making sure you continue to earn enough money both to pay all of the staff and have some in reserves for emergencies or leaner donation drives
probably even more stuff than that! i don't run a nonprofit, that's just what i can think of off the top of my head.
okay, okay, okay. for the sake of argument, let's assume there is a best-case scenario where the otw starts paying some staff tomorrow. how much should they be paid? i'm picking $15 an hour, since that's what we fought for the minimum wage to be. by now, it should be closer to $20 or $25, but i'm trying to give "ao3 is capitalism" the fairest shot it can get here, okay?
ideally, if someone is being paid to help run ao3, they shouldn't need a second job. every job should pay enough to live off of. and running a nonprofit is hard work that leads to a lot of burnout--two board members JUST resigned before their terms were up. what i'm saying is, i'm going to assume a paid otw staff is getting paid for 40 hours of work a week, minimum. that's $31,200.
at $400,000 per year, the otw can afford to pay 12 people. that's WITHOUT taking into account the new systems, tools, software, etc they would have to pay for, any kind of fees, etc, etc.
oh, and btw, if you're an american you're still making barely enough to survive in most places, AND you don't have universal healthcare, vision, or dental. want otw to give people insurance, too? the number of people they can pay goes down.
it's. not. possible.
a million dollars is a lot of money on the face of it, but once you realize how MUCH goes into running something like the otw, it goes away fast.
just for reference, wikipedia also has donation drives every year. wikipedia, as of 2021, has $86.8 million in cash reserves and $137.4 million in investments. sure, wikipedia and ao3 are very different entities, but that disparity is massive. and i should note that if you give $10 to wikipedia they don't give you voting rights, i'm just saying.
by the way, you may have noticed that i didn't mention legal costs at all here. isn't one of otw's big Things about how they do legal advocacy?
yes, it is. they have a whole page about that work. and i can't for the life of me find a source on otw's website (and i'm running out of time to write this post, i'll look harder later), but i am 90% sure i learned before that most, if not all, of otw's legal work/advice/etc is done pro bono. i've also seen an anti-ao3 person claim their legal budget is only $5k or so, but they didn't have a source. but keep in mind that if they don't have a legal budget, all the numbers above stay the same, and if they do, there is even less money available for paid staff.
you can criticize ao3 and the otw all you want! there are many valid reasons to criticize them, and i do not think they're perfect either. but if you're going to do so, you should at least make sure you can back up your claims, bc otherwise you just look silly.

wren couldn’t say what their dream had been about.   it had dispersed like smoke parts for a swinging hand, yet they knew bits of reality had slipped into it as well, a fleeting dream that had started wren into wakefulness, bleary and disoriented.   something moved beside them, twisted and groaned.
wren was on their feet in moments.   light spilled across the room as they flicked a lamp, allowing themself to take in foxtrot’s shape: tangled in blankets like an acrobat with no grace, he jerked and gasped in ways that sent wren’s heart pounding.   they reached for him, an unrestrained instinct, calling his name---only realizing their mistake when tearful eyes stared right through them and trembling hands smacked them away.   wren’s heart skipped a beat, but they remained, and his apologies fell on deaf ears.
“it’s okay!   it didn’t hurt, it’s okay.   god, i---  are you okay?”
their entire body ran on electricity.   a million thoughts raced through their mind at once, of things they ought to do or say on top of things they should not do or say, but at last they climbed onto the tumbled sheets to brush his cheek.   it was sleek with sweat; he was drenched, drowning.  “d’you want me to get you anything?   water, or tea, or---?”

Shrub Club: Episode 2
Demetrius walks all over the castle grounds to make sure he finds the perfect location for the Shrub Club’s greenhouse. The duo comprising of a Hufflepuff and a Gryffindor got all the paperwork out of the way so that Meech can finally claim a location for their own meeting space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is right outside of the main Herbology building in a small secluded area. There are no flowerbeds here that would be destroyed nor are there trees in the middle to take down. Just some beehives to the side which can even be helpful depending on what they decide to grow. Having spent quite some time in this location, Demetrius comes to a conclusion that it does get plenty of sunlight as well, unlike the area right underneath that he considered first.
The farmer boy has all the instruments needed for building with him. Although he has never constructed something like this on his own before, he helped his gramps plenty of times. This should not be hard considering that all of his club members volunteered to help out as well. Meech feels rather relived at that: his magic is only good for certain things, practical things. There is no Quidditch practice this weekend so the Gryffindor is set on finishing his part of the construction in two days.
He places charms on the instruments, commanding them to do as he wills. Some of the stone and wood he had already levitated to this area during his preliminary observations of the grounds. Stone goes for the base, and wood — for the building frame. It might look rather basic and but with the help of others the greenhouse would surely flourish. The glass and the decorations? Some protective charms? Maybe even something that can make the inside of the greenhouse bigger than the outside? He is sure that the girls will have it covered.
Having talked to @theodoradevlin @ask-wren-zhang and @justmagnoliaellistor he approximated their skill sets. Theodora talked about letting nature provide the beauty and Meech is curious as to how that can be achieved. Using wood-like plants in the construction? The vines that take over the wooden posts and swirl around like those solved Merlin Trials structures? Theo also wondered if she can use Glacius to freeze window panes out of water since they cannot really afford all that glass. Wren mentioned that she is rather good at furnishing (that would help cover the inside of the greenhouse) and can even bring refreshments. And Magnolia talked so fondly about flowers in one of her letters that Meech is sure that her sense of beautify and experience with taking care of an actual garden back home would come in handy. The wizard wonders how different Magnolia’s garden is compared to Theo’s grove or what he and his gramps grow on the farm.
The Gryffindor doesn’t feel like he has the right to tell people what to do even if everyone involved offered to help. They can all get together and see what it is they want to grow, what plants would go where. Would they want a small area with a table and chairs where they can sit and discuss things? Maybe a separate terrace on the outside or a porch as part of the greenhouse overlooking the valley below? They have to figure out and get the right soil and fertiliser for the seeds, sprouts and saplings they’d plan to get. How would the watering system work, ventilation, heating in winter? They certainly need to do more research, a lot of it probably charms Meech has never heard off. And there is the question of the greenhouse decorations, of course!
Less thinking, more doing: Demetrius gets to work.

She has been warned... several times. And after a long discussion and tough negotiations, she did it.
As you entered your room, the smell of unfamiliar perfume came to your nose again. But the sweet smell of cinnamon was quickly replaced by something vinegary.
Your bed... was full of pickles. In glass, in a box, even plushies shaped like pickles.
Pascal Doyle popped his head around the corner and stopped when he saw your face and the bed. His sister had outdone herself. Where on earth had she found pickles plushies?
"I'll... come back later" he pats you on the shoulder encouragingly and leaves you alone with the mess.
Halloween season made the Hufflepuff even more mischievous than she already was.
The first thing Will feels when he comes into the 7th-year dorm room is the familiar smell of cinnamon. It is familiar for many reasons: his favourite cinnamon bun pastries; summers of trying (and failing) to bake those the muggle way together with Allegra; the cinnamon hair oil he always for some reason detects during Potion classes.
But this particular spice is perfume Will smelled for the first time a little while ago when somebody unfamiliar broke into the boys' dorm room. Will is no stranger when it comes to dealing with people Sebastian brings in, and it has never posed a problem so long as Will got to take his daily naps and nightly sleeps. But it was one thing when he overhears other Slytherins gossip about who comes and goes, and another — hearing that not only did that person stay for an entirely too short period of time for something to happen but that it also was not a Slytherin student. Which means that somebody is breaking the rules without prior agreement with the powerhouse of the Slytherin Commons.
The visuals come into view a little later. Will startles and reaches for his wand, his eyes wide, eyeing the bed. The day of The Incident flashes before his eyes: the pickle juices, the wretched taste of the slime, the blood-chilling screeches, and the demon behind it all… One does not forget such things easily.
But then Sebastian comes to mind, his voice, his decisive actions, his protection, and the final destruction of the devil's gourd in the brilliant dance of the blue flames around them. And the mess that was Will the first few days, laying in the Hospital Wing, refusing to see anybody and trying to sleep through all the calming drought, and sheer panic he felt at the slightest of noises and touches.
And then the healing: his friends visiting and slowly building his spirit back up by reading him books, bringing in much needed homework, playing chess; Sebastian finding a perfect ward against the pickle; Wren taking care of Will in an unexpected display of solidarity and earnestness normally hidden behind the sibling-like squabbles and jokes.
Will is tense but he still smiles carefully moving closer to the bed. He and Sebastian have come a long way after that day. It is irrational to fear the vegetable. It is unproductive to avoid it and let it dictate how Will feels. The protective ward was cast on the entire dorm room a while back and Will could still feel its presence just as much as he smells something vinegary in front of him. This is just a prank. And he will find the person responsible. Where did they even FIND that many pickle-related things?
Pascal coming from behind Will startles him more than the pickles on the bed did.
"Dear Merlin, where did you come from?" Will squeaks out and breathes a sigh of relief upon realizing who is it. The other Slytherin's presence breaks the spell, the pat on the prefect's shoulder brings his spirit back to solid ground. And just like that Will is back to the present. Feeling uneasy staying in this room, Will vows to deal with the plushies sometime later, and runs after Pascal: the boy left the room suspiciously early.
"Hey, where do you think you're going? Have you seen anyone suspicious around our dorms recently?"

See’s Twitter posted some character teasers for Season 3. It looks very promising. I’m pretty excited.
Ohhhh. I see why! (Haha, I....see why.)
So this Wren teaser, they're straight up spoiling that after a full season of saying she won't leave her people and family, she does it anyway?? Early enough in s3 that they're spoiling it? Hope we get them together in the end, then, usually how a season starts is not how it ends. :x
Thanks for letting me know, anon! I hadn't known about the teasers at all. At least we'll get some cute moments like this in the meantime?

The eyeroll she gives Ryker speaks more than any words could. No, he has never  let her down,  not in any way that matters, but one could argue Wren tends to end up in trouble, a disproportionate amount of time, whenever they cross paths. Even as a teenager... she made her own, often poor, choices, but she probably wouldn’t have ended up aiding someone (specifically him) in what was practically a gang civil war, had she never met him.
& the odd times he’s shown up over the years, dragging her into some less-than-legal mess or another, well.
Her own choices.
He’s her people. Wren doesn’t turn her back on hers.
❝ Have you ever misused your authority to bail me out of jail before? ❞    she turns the question around on Ryker.
Tumblr media
❝ ’Cause that’s what you’re asking me, here. At least say it how it is. Say, Wren, I want you to abuse your fragile and newly acquired Spectre authority to bail me out. I want you to be my get-out-of-jail-free card. And say pretty please, and I may consider if you’re worth the trouble. ❞
She’s never going to turn him down, so the least she can do is milk the situation for the amusement that it’s worth. If Udina catches wind of this, he’s going to give her a several-hour long lecture about political appearances. She needs to come up with a reason for the Council, as well; they’re not fans of her to begin with, not with the constant arguments about the Reapers’ existence, certainly not with how her Spectre career had started with the death of one and the going rogue of another of their existing agents. Using Spectre authority to get an old gang friend out of C-Sec holding... isn’t going to look good, no matter which way you spin it, yet here she is, set on doing it. Maybe she could kind of friendly-blackmail Ryker into helping her with going after Saren, somehow, to justify it, on paper...

"But I can....." Trying to be strong just like his big brother, yet he stammers in response. Wiping his tears away and His ear flickers from the approaching footsteps and knowing these familiar situations. The look on the hedgehog's smile, the same smile that Sonic always shows and always willing to face any kind of danger. Balling his fists and trying to put himself together and knowing that he doesn't have time. Gripping the other's shoulder for one last squeeze and bolts off to the emergency route. "Please....Please don't die."
Muttering to himself and he does not want to lose another loved one. Not ever.
