excerpt: Blood really is the most beautiful shade of red, isn’t it?  

The metallic tang of it lingered in the air and on my tongue. I raised my hand to the dying sun, inspecting the carmine stain covering my fingers and dripping down my arm. It billowed in the sea around me, bright and sanguine and breathtaking. I was practically bathing in it.

Sunlight glimmered off of my hand, the blood glistening in the last vestiges of day, and for the first time in a long time, I smiled.  

Really, truly smiled.

Plucked from her well-paying job in the city to play nurse to the son of a wealthy ship owner, Eden Ojo finds herself ensnared in the world of old money, and the trail of deceit, destruction and death left in its wake.

Sequestered in the countryside with the increasingly hostile family, she will uncover secrets that may be better left buried. No one is who they say they are. But that’s fine.

Neither is she.

Machines feel like they have something to say, if only she knew how to listen. Her ship sings to her in the same way the energy of the storms sings in her bones. Her lack of understanding is a gaping hole in the core of her being, a missing limb she neither understands nor knows how to use. She wishes she could cut it off.

Her story;;

They believed they were too far from the war to be affected; they were wrong. Now, she is alone, adrift in unfamiliar space with only the voice of an odd friend to guide her. She searches without understanding what she’s searching for; she fights for meaning with no one to help support her.

BLURB ||

The Nine Divine are the ruling forces of this world. Gods and Goddesses walking the very soil they rule over. But as with any divinity and ruling pantheon, they have a limited idea of the consequences their actions have.

It is their naive belief that gives ground for a war to end all life. For the Divine has forgotten about their own, imprisoned and famished. And as they lay waste, spearheading an army far more powerful than any before them, the remaining Divine scramble to find an end.

And in the midst of this war stands two boys, no older than twenty. Destined for something far darker than death.

SUMMARY ||

Nel, the High Mage’s son, is brought into a world of intrigue when the royal hostage arrives at the repurposed palace. Old friends turn their backs as new finds their way into his life.

When magick tastes foul in mage’s mouths and fugitives cross the Shallow sea it becomes clear that the world has long been at war with an unknown force that has seemingly walked out of the shadows and steadily makes its way to the Empire of Velane. Nel is forced to face the darkness head on when the fates puts him in its way and the Nine Divine reemerge to walk the earth once more. Called to action by the horn of war.

Mara lost her home and her family to a war that’s been fought for so long, no one remembers the origin. Guided by the voice of a friend who claims to be the universe itself, she’s set off on a journey to right the wrongs her people have been burdened with, to return the magic stripped from them, and to piece together the history of her people that has been lost to time. Her journey leads her to team up with Luken, an enemy knight who’s been searching for the Eternity Gateway and who refuses to share her motivations with Mara. In the vastness of space, the girls find they’re not too different from each other, after all, and their survival depends on each other.

Hello friends! Do you like short stories? Do you like reading stories of various genres and lengths? Do you want to read short stories before anyone else and provide your thoughts on them? Then do I have a deal for you!

Having been introduced to the fact that Tapas hosts novels as well as comics, I have decided to start putting my short stories up on there under the title and cover here, A Fate That Befell Me. And since I know better than any that the first draft of my stories might not always be the best, I would like to enlist some help from some lovely people! All I’m looking for is for you to read the story and give me your thoughts - what you liked, what seemed flat, what you thought did or didn’t work. 

Some notes on what you can expect from the stories:

-- Stories will vary in length, but all will be 5k words or less -- Stories will be of various genres, but you can expect fantasy and contemporary to feature most often -- All stories will feature content warnings with them, but you can expect violence and death to account for most of those warnings

Now as for how I plan for this to work:

-- I plan on releasing 1-2 stories a week, I do not expect everyone who volunteers to beta to read every story I plan on putting up -- I’m currently settling up a discord server where all of this will be centralized -- When I have a story ready for beta-ing, I’ll put up a short description, and anyone interested in reading it can react with an emoji and I’ll send them over a google drive link to a copy of the story -- beta readers can either leave notes right on their doc copy or in the server, where each reader will have channels only they and I can see for privacy -- beta readers can beta for as many or as few stories as they like, it’s totally up to you! -- because of this, I’m not going to limit how many beta readers I’ll take on, and you are, of course, free to leave the server and quit beta-ing for me at any point!

The power of the storms will never disobey her. Lightning lives in her bones. She sees the world through the energy around her and can direct it as she pleases - if she can stomach the pain. Her blood burns in her veins, a scorching reminder of an ever-present power. 

Her story;;

Time is running out for An’kora’s lost child. Years are a precious thing for the cursed ones, whose lives are but fleeting moments in an endless, agonizing cycle. Answers lie behind the Eternity Gateway, and death itself will not stop her from reaching her goal. Her people will have peace; outcasting herself will have been worth it. Those who stand in her way will fall by her lance.
