Encantober Day 3: Reunion
“You can let go now.” Bruno squirmed uncomfortably in Pepa’s grasp.
“Ay, but I missed you so much, hermanito.” Pepa squeezed him more tightly. “Can’t I have this moment of joy?”
“Can’t- breathe-“ Bruno gasped out, fighting against Pepa.
“Easy, Pepa.” Julieta placed her hand on Pepa’s shoulder. “His eyes are starting to pop out of his head.”
Reluctantly, Pepa loosened her grip.
Relieved, Bruno took a deep breath, just as Julieta pounced on him.
“What do all of you have against breathing?” He griped, sinking limply into the hug.
“Brunito, we haven’t seen you in ten years.” Alma said, her eyes misty with tears. “Surely you understand.”
“I do, but you won’t get to see me much longer if you don’t let me breathe!” He finally managed to wriggle out of the hug.
Pepa and Julieta looked at him, hurt.
Bruno sighed. “Alright, come here.” He held his arms open. “Ah, one arm hugs. One arm hugs!” He put up his hands preemptively.
This time, his sisters were gentler with him.
Bruno closed his eyes contentedly, enjoying the hug. “It’s good to see you, guys. I missed you.”
“We missed you too.” Suddenly, Pepa pulled away from the hug. “Don’t you ever disappear on us like that again!” She smacked him in the arm.
Wincing, Bruno shook out his arm. “Easy, Pepa. Keep me in one piece.” He covered his mouth with his hand and turned towards Julieta. “I forgot how strong she was.”
Hearing that, Pepa scooped him up in his arms and twirled him around. “Strong enough to pick you up, and don’t you forget it!” Realizing something, she frowned, setting him down on the ground. “Bruno, you’re so light. Have you been eating?”
He shrugged. “I got enough food. Sometimes it was hard to sneak some from the kitchen because someone would always be in there, but I’d get the rats to grab me a few arepas to tide me over.”
“Rats-“ Julieta looked horrified then sighed, smiling contentedly. “It’s over now. You can eat as much as you’d like, and no more rats in my kitchen!”
“What about other animals?” Antonio piped up, eyes shining eagerly.
“Toñito, I think Parce might be bigger than the kitchen,” Félix pointed out with a chuckle.
Everyone laughed.
“Food actually sounds pretty good,” Bruno admitted. “I haven’t eaten since,” he put up a few fingers, counting, “no matter, I’m hungry!”
Camilo’s stomach grumbled in agreement. “Let’s eat!”
“Great idea, Milo.” Julieta nodded approvingly. “I can go get started on dinner.”
“We’ll join you,” Pepa said, joining her side.
Bruno looked between the two warily. “Uh, Pepa’s allowed in the kitchen now?”
Félix shook his head “no” at Bruno but stilled his motion at a glare from Pepa.
Bruno nodded. “So, uh, dinner!” He said brightly. “Let’s go!” He stopped walking when he noticed Camilo examining him through narrowed eyes. “Something wrong, Camilo?”
Camilo gave him a disappointed once over. “You’re so…short,” Camilo pronounced.
Bruno blinked, confused. “Thank you?”
“Camilo!” Pepa whirled on her son. “That’s so rude.”
“You called him short all the time,” Agustín pointed out, becoming the latest victim of her glare.
“That’s different. That’s sibling privilege,” Pepa countered. “Camilo, you can’t say things like that to your tío.”
“Why not? He’s so short.” Camilo blew his bangs out of his eyes. “I thought he’d be like seven feet tall!”
“Sorry to burst your bubble, kid. I’m not some kind of boogeyman. Just your regular, everyday tío with a pack of rats at his service.” He bowed with a flourish.
Dolores slid in alongside him. “About the rats…tío, now that you’re finally here…” She trailed off. “Not that you were ever really gone, I could hear you in the walls, you know,” she mentioned proudly as an aside.
Bruno chuckled. “I’m guessing you were the one responsible for the conveniently ‘forgotten’ food left in the kitchen?”
Dolores’ face assumed a guilty expression. “Guilty?” She glanced out of the corner of her eye towards Julieta, who wasn’t paying attention.
Bruno waved off her concern. “Hey, no sweat. You might’ve just saved my life with that, so thank you. So what’s up?”
“Well, since I could hear you in there…” Dolores brushed a strand of hair behind her ear nervously. “I heard some of your performances.” Her voice sounded more confident now. “And I am just dying to know what happens with José and María!”
“Oh.” Bruno appeared taken aback.
“Do they end up together? Or does Carmen break them up? What happens next? I need to know!” Dolores squealed, gripping his arm tightly.
“You really are your mother’s daughter, aren’t you?” Bruno shook his head good-naturedly. “Okay, so I don’t have all of it planned out yet, but here’s what I was thinking…”
They walked together as he narrated to her, his words punctuated by excited gasps and squeals.
Eventually, the family meandered inside. The kitchen became a whirlwind of activity, underscored by overlapping conversations. Finally, dinner was ready, and everyone took their places at the table, with Bruno at the head.
Next to him, Alma stood up, raising her glass. “To our family. May we never be separated again.”
Glasses clinked together at the first of many reunited Madrigal family dinners.

I know this movie is recent-ish, but the lack of an Encanto series is still crazy to me.
Like, it doesn't even need crazy magical lore, it can be episodic, it's so simple:
Family dynamics not seen in the movie
Why doesn't Mirabel have a gift (theory of her being the next matriarch being the most obvious one)

It's so many possibilities that if they never do it it's a damn shame.

Why are these Disney heroines "adorkable"?

Rapunzel (Tangled): Because she was raised in isolation her entire life. She doesn't have a clue about the outside world or social graces or other people besides her "mother" in general. But she's extremely eager to learn and eager to please, not to mention is a pent-up ball of energy waiting to run wild, which leads to her adorkability. It makes perfect narrative sense.

Anna (Frozen): While not as badly as Rapunzel, she was also raised in isolation for much of her life, largely having to rely on the books in her castle library to teach her about the world and things such as proper etiquette, life skills and romance. But real life is not a book, so when she actually has to do these things, she often flounders due to her nervousness, excitement or inexperience, which leads to her adorkability. It makes perfect narrative sense.

Moana (Moana): From early in her life, she was raised under a very strict set of rules and instilled with a strong sense of responsibility, which is at odds with her instinctive desire to break these rules and her fears that she isn't up to the challenge her responsibilities pose. All of this pent-up stress she carries within her will often cause her to explode with emotion at the slightest provocation, which leads to her adorkability. It makes perfect narrative sense.

Mirabel (Encanto): As a young child, she failed to receive a special gift and room the same way the rest of her family did. Now feeling like the failure of the family, Mirabel's coping mechanism became trying to make herself as extravagant and quirky as possible. She's an incredibly "Try Hard" person, which leads to her adorkability. It makes perfect narrative sense.

Asha (Wish): Um.....well, she.....yeah, I got nothing. There is no narrative justification here.
Disney doesn't have an Adorkable Problem. Just an Asha Problem.

Thinking about the Dawnfather. A god of light, a god of harvest, a god of the sun itself. Good but not nice, kind but not soft. Life-giving but also scorching. Protective, warm, and kind, but also stern, harsh, and abrasive. His light can foster growth, can protect and guide, but it can also scorch and burn. The sun is warm and nurturing but don’t stare at it too long, child, it’ll blind you.
Was he always so hard? Did he always hide his face with the harsh light of the sun? Or was there a time when he smiled and laughed, let others see him as he truly was?
Thinking about the Schism. Was the Dawnfather close to the Betrayer Gods before they turned? He must have been, Asmodeus wouldn’t be so hung up on him if he wasn’t. Speaking of Asmodeus, he was once a being of light, like the Dawnfather and the Everlight are now. Were they closer than the others? When the Gods came to Exandria, did they come from the same place or were they scattered, a ragtag group of survivors fleeing from predators seeking to devour them? And if the latter is true, did these three beings of light come from the same place? Siblings, born from the same stuff, forever tied to one another?
If this was the case, then, what was their relationship before the Schism? Did they call each other “Brother” and “Sister”? Did they hold each other when they were scared, dry each other’s tears, laugh and joke and tease and fight and make up because they were siblings and they’d always be together, and they loved each other with every fiber of their being and they only had each other. When Predathos came, when it devoured two of their newfound siblings, did the Dawnfather hold them both and promise them that everything was going to be okay because he was their brother and he was going to protect them, all of them. The gods, mortals, the world itself, they would not be devoured, they would not be destroyed, because he was there and would fight until his very last breath to keep them safe.
Wondering then, was that the moment when Asmodeus truly grew to hate their creations? Seeing his brother and sister and siblings risk their lives just to protect some mewling mortal wretches when they could just leave it all behind and start somewhere new. Was that the moment when he realized that mortals had done something to them, changed them when they were not supposed to change. Why else would they risk being devoured by Predathos, why else would they suffer through war with the Primordials? Why else would they choose them over him!? Was this the moment when he decided to conspire with the Primordials and the other Betrayer Gods? To destroy this world and the mortals on it so they could finally leave. And they would leave, of course, because the Dawnfather was his brother and the Everlight was his sister and the Gods were a family, and at the end of the day, they would always be together, and once the corrupting influence of those mortals was gone, they would surely all see reason.
And when the Dawnfather discovered this betrayal, when all the Prime Deities did, he must have been furious. How could they!? His kin, his brother, who had always been by his side through everything, how could they turn around and destroy their creations, their children. And so he and the other Primes took up arms and fought against their own family to protect this world they had created, and their children who inhabited it. Those battles must have been brutal, bonds of comradery broken, kin clashing against kin, screaming curses as they tore each other apart.
During those final battles of the Schism, when the Dawnfather clashed against Asmodeus, did they scream at each other in rage? A twisted reflection of previous squabbles, different because this time it was real, this time there is no forgiveness, no making up. When the Dawnfather knocked Asmodeus down, crushed his throat under his foot and banished him to the Hells, was he yelling when he disowned him? Or was he quiet when he did it, his voice going into a low growl, deadly calm as he told him that he was not his brother anymore. And moments previously, when the Dawnfather could have easily killed him, did he look into Asmodeus’s eyes and see his brother? Scared and hurt by his hands, hands that once held him and swore to protect him. In that moment, did the Dawnfather realize he couldn’t kill him? Because that was his brother and despite everything, he still loved him, and hurting him brought him more grief and pain than he could ever imagine. So instead, he banished him, locked him and all the other Betrayers away because he and the other Primes couldn’t bring themselves to kill their family, but they also couldn’t let them free.
Was this when the Dawnfather obscured his face? Hardened his heart because otherwise he would break, and he cannot break, because the other gods need him to be strong, because Exandria needs him to be strong. And so he stayed strong, despite the grief, despite the guilt, despite the pain of heartbreak, of hurting the ones he loved to protect the ones he loved. And this hardening must have continued, running himself ragged during Calamity, beating back Tharizdun, protecting Ioun after she almost died, sheltering the Everlight after Asmodeus once again betrayed her, stabbed her in the back and left her broken and weak when all she wanted was to do was get her brother back, to save him from his own wrath. Failure after failure after failure to protect those he cared about, to protect his siblings and mortals and Exandria itself. The guilt of his failures must be overwhelming, and these are his failures: Predathos devoured his siblings under his watch, his siblings betrayed them under his watch, Calamity ravaged Exandria under his watch, and even now, the threat of Predathos has once again returned under his watch.
No wonder he is so harsh now, so controlling now: because every time he has failed in his vigilance the world has suffered for it. He can’t fail again; he can’t lose any more siblings. And so, he continues hardening his heart, continues fighting, because the sun must always rise again in the morning, no matter what.

Saw another user comparing these two again because apparently all Disney fans do now is regurgitate other people’s opinions so I’m here once again to remind you that they don’t have the same face, you’re just racist.

Disney has white characters that resemble each other more than Isabela and Asha do, and yet I never see the same levels of criticism about them.

If you can’t tell two brown-skinned characters apart because they’re wearing the same colour, then who’s to say that you treat real poc with any more respect than that? The differences are actually quite easy to recognize but it would be terribly presumptuous of me to assume that all of you reading this were in possession of a functioning brain.

I agree that Disney could put in a larger effort in creating more distinguishable female character designs, but I genuinely believe that any resemblance between these two just comes from Disney’s habit of stylization.

Wish is a pretty boring name for a movie. Seeing as the movie itself pays homage to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, I feel like a similar name would have been awesome. Asha and the Wishing Star. Asha and the Kingdom of Wishes. Asha and the Little Star. Something like that would’ve been cute.
I’m tired of having adorkable main characters too, but there’s still time for Asha to prove us wrong and show us the what separates her from the others.
King Magnifico isn’t a twist villain, he’s been openly stated during some interviews to be the villain in Wish, and is heavily-inspired by Disney’s golden age of villains as well. Disney’s twist villains have done so much damage that even the simple-minded believe that any presence of an antagonist is “spoiling a twist villain” LMAO
I believe that we should all support Wish in hopes that Disney will continue to branch out into new art styles and experimental visuals. If it does poorly, and they fall back into the style of 3D animation we’ve been getting since 2010, I’m blaming everybody that talked shit about this movie.

Before the children went go to bed, the adults Pepa and Julieta insisted they stand for a photo - Antonio had already gone to bed, hence his absence and Luisa not wearing anything out of the ordinary. However, upon seeing Isabela standing on the box Camilo was posed on, she came over to tease her sister about still being taller and just decided to remain for the photo. Directly after she is probably going to be smacked with a cactus.

Outfits, outfits, outfits (*▪︎*))
Mirabel owns a small clothing shop in Mond, she used to be part of the Adventurers Guild (ignore the fact I spelt it wrong btw) full time but does odd jobs every so often now. Her 'old' outfit was meant to be her adult outfit and the new one was meant to be her teen years but I liked the teen outfit better and decided to switch them.
She's actually friends with Chiori, they met in Inazuma and Chiori helped upgrade her outfit from the AG uniform (a few months after gaining her vision too). They write to each other and often use Kirara to send other things like fashion samples and trades.
Mirabel's outfit is meant to look like a butterfly wings.
Her shop isn't popular to non-locals but everyone in Mond knows to head to her place if you want something fixed or made.
She is also younger than Diluc, Jean's, and Keaya's ages but older than Bennett, Razor, Fischl.

Encantober Day 21: Age
She was twenty-five years old. One day, she had been married to the love of her life; eagerly awaiting the arrival of their little blessing, which turned out to be little blessings. The next, she was widowed and alone with three babies, far away from the home where she had grown up. How she was supposed to do this alone, she couldn’t say. It would have been hard enough raising triplets with help. Every day, she passed by the portrait of Pedro that had somehow been hanging up in the house as soon as it rose out of the ground, running her hand along the frame lovingly. Whenever she did that, the stairs did a tap dance in response. She had a sneaking suspicion that the house and Pedro were connected, but she shook it off, figuring she was just sleep deprived. Taking care of three babies was hard, but to see them growing every day, discovering the world around them…

She was twenty-six years old. Today was her birthday. The first one since…well. Since they had moved to their encanto. She didn’t feel up to celebrating, but the townspeople had graciously dropped off some food and a cake they had made for her. Chocolate, her favorite. Pedro’s favorite too. He’d had such a sweet tooth. Alma could barely finish any sweets she had without him trying to steal them from her. Still, she thought sadly, she would give him this entire cake just to have him back again. She would give anything.

She was twenty-six years old. The triplets were turning one. They had grown so much! Despite being the same age, they were so different. Pepa was the easiest to tell apart. She was fair and had tufts of red hair sticking out all over her head. Out of the three, she’d been the first to talk, and she cried the loudest. If you dared ignore her, she’d scream like la Llorona. Bruno had started walking first, but he was by far the quietest. Alma had to keep a special eye on him to keep him from getting hurt. Julieta had beautiful big brown eyes and dark brown curls. She’d burbled happily before she could talk and kept reaching out her chubby little hands towards others. Oh, the townspeople adored them! The celebration they gave to the three miracle babies of the encanto was unforgettable. But there was one part she wished she could forget.

She was thirty years old. Somehow, she had made it through the triplets’ infancy and toddlerhood. Surely it would be easier from here on out. If anything, all four of them were sleeping through the night, even Pepa, who’d had a few rough months. Of course, hope was futile; a lesson she should have learned five years prior. On the triplets’ fifth birthday, she awoke to three brand new doors, shimmering mysteriously in the hallway. When she went to inspect them, she saw that each doorknob had a different letter carved into it- the triplets’ initials.
By this point, the children had woken up and followed her to the doors. Pepa’s big green eyes lit up with joy as she opened the door to her new room. Suddenly, she realized she had her own personal rainbow hanging over her head. Shouting in shock, she backed away.
That was when Bruno unexpectedly warned her that she’d trip over the banister.
Indeed, Pepa went tumbling over, sliding down the stairs and skinning her knee. Immediately, she broke out into tears, and was even more surprised to feel rain rolling down her cheeks alongside her tears.
Julieta ran down the stairs and went into the kitchen, grabbing an arepa that had been waiting for breakfast. She offered it to Pepa, the way she’d seen Alma do when they got hurt, to distract her from her pain. As soon as she took a bite, the redness on her knee cleared up and the skin healed over.
Alma almost fell over in shock herself. Without any rational explanation, her children had somehow seemingly acquired abilities that were nothing short of magic. Pepa affected the weather. Julieta could heal. And Bruno…could he see the future? Ay. She rubbed her temples. Things wouldn’t be easy after all.
That night, when she brushed her hair before bed, she noticed her first gray hair. The first sign she was getting older.

She was forty years old. Amazingly, she had managed to keep her three magical children alive and they getting ready for Julieta and Pepa’s quinceañera. A joint party, of course, but one so lively that no one would miss a second party. Sometime in the last few years, it felt like the veil over Alma’s life had lifted. Colors brightened. Shapes sharpened. And music sounded sweet again. For the first time in a long time, she had allowed herself to dance again. She missed her Pedro, but there was nothing she could do to bring him back. Besides, she and the children had survived. They were safe, and more than safe- they were thriving! Thanks to the triplets’ magical gifts, Alma could give back to the community that had supported them through those first few perilous years. She could try to pay back the massive debt she had accumulated that weighed on her for all those years.
And so she danced! Despite the many quiet years, her feet remembered the steps and carried her from one song to the next. The twinge of pain in her knees was new; she’d certainly never experienced that before while dancing. But no matter; she wouldn’t let it ruin her night! Just like she wouldn’t let the way Pepa swished her skirts around when boys were watching ruin it. Or the way Bruno danced with Julieta because otherwise she’d spend much of the night sitting. These girls needed their papá around; to raise them, to love them, to show them what a man was supposed to be. To dance with them on their special night.

She was forty-seven years old. It was Pepa’s wedding day. Pepa would be marrying a wonderful man; one who loved her and would take care of her like Pedro promised to do for Alma. Her heart was overflowing with joy for her daughter. Even though the hurricane had been catastrophic, at the end of the day, Pepa had gone home with her husband. And Alma had not.

She was fifty years old. This time it was Julieta’s wedding day. She too was marrying a man who promised to love her and cherish her, through anything life would throw at them. Her wedding had been a calmer affair, though no less joyous. Alma laughed, and she cried, and she wasn’t sure which one was giving her more wrinkles around her eyes. But just like Pepa, Julieta did not have her papá at her wedding.

She was fifty-three years old. Her first grandchild, a beautiful baby girl, had just been born. Julieta cradled her proudly, humming to soothe her as the baby cried. Alma couldn’t keep the tears out of her own eyes. She was a grandmother. Soon, any day now by the looks of Pepa’s belly, she’d be one again. A joy she should have shared.

She was fifty-five years old. Another granddaughter was born. Alma rocked her to sleep in her arms, ignoring the way her joints would seize up sometimes. Their family had been so blessed over the years.

She was fifty-nine years old. Her eyesight was growing weaker, but there was no mistaking that this newest Madrigal baby, with his crooked grin and floppy curls, would be beautiful, just like his mamá and papá. Even after all these years, Alma instinctively turned to her side to hand him the baby.

She was sixty years old. Another wonderful baby girl. Alma felt something special as she held her in her arms. The girl looked up at her with large inquisitive eyes. She would have been Pedro’s favorite, Alma knew in her heart.

She was seventy years old. They had not been expecting any more little blessings, but Antonio had decided to surprise them all, with his wild curls and infectious smile. Alma felt her back stoop as she held him. Even at such an old age, she was blessed to see new life begin. But she wished she could have been blessed to share that old age with her love.

I think it depends a little on where you're from. Whether or not your culture is too different from his.
If that's the case, he would do his best to understand your culture first. He really loves it when you start talking about what you like or your childhood.
Your accent is kind of funny to him. He finds it cute and could spend hours listening to you without getting tired. He has the biggest heart eyes as he listens to you.
You're in charge of the telenovelas from now on! He will create the script, but he will definitely convince you to be the narrator.
He also consults you about your country and its customs to be able to make more variety of characters.
Introducing you to his family was quite an experience. Bruno knew you would be welcome at Casita without a doubt, he just didn't expect the enthusiasm.
First of all, you were the first person he introduced to his mother and sisters in...you were the first and only.
Alma was really happy, Pepa hugged you after threatening you and Julieta tried not to overwhelm you, but you could see the tears of joy in her eyes.
The children were less subtle. Camilo immediately mentioned your accent, receiving a scolding from Mirabel.
Dolores immediately grabbed your arm and began asking you questions, finding your way of speaking charming.
Isabela and Antonio asked you about the flora and fauna of your country and Luisa simply welcomed you, without wanting to make you feel more uncomfortable or axphyrized like the rest.
In the end, Bruno apologized for the fuss, but you assured him that you had a good time.
He begins to imitate your small gestures. He doesn't do it on purpose, he doesn't even realize it, but you do and you find it adorable.
The rest of the family makes an effort to make you feel included, Julieta and Félix invite you to share dishes from your country and Alma is really interested in your childhood.
Bruno really loves you and he's happy that you were able to open up his view of the world.
He simply loves being with you and learning everything you want to teach him (of course, you do the same, it's a reciprocal and beautiful relationship).

One of the issues with disney movies lately is some of the disney female protagonists is the adorkable personality. Which worked with Rapunzel and Anna but as time passed on, it seem to be the norm which the problem came once Wish revealed. Although despite that issues, all but Asha have reasons the way they are.
Rapunzel and Anna have been isolated from everyone with Rapunzel in the tower with only a chameleon as her friend and it didn't help that Mother Gothel is abusive to her while Anna stays in the castle with her sister being distant to her. I am not sure she is close with any of the servants since they are servants. Of course, they are socially awkward but they improve with Rapunzel having to experience social interaction in her TV series while Anna no longer has this in the sequel.
Moana is mostly serious and adventurous, which overshadows her quirkiness as only shown during her time in the ocean compared to the island as she fulfilled her duty as future chief. She has some laughable moments, but it doesn't stop her to continue her goal to saved the world and she is usually the serious of the two which the other is Maui.
Mirabel's quirkiness is the way she is because of how she isolated by her family and her village didn't pay much attention to her due to her being giftless which is why she tries her best to fit in. Her main personality is being empathetic as she helps her family with Antonio being brave enough with her favorite cousin by her side, Luisa talking about pressure that Mirabel listened, and Mirabel helping Isabel to let go of perfectionist. She can also be seen sassy like how she talks about Isabel.
Whereas Asha has no reason for the need to be quirky and awkward, she seems to be accepted by her friends, family, and the kingdom before the events of the story. She could have been an introverted, graceful woman who admired the king that she wanted to fulfilled his footsteps before realizing the truth.
Raya, Judy, Elsa, and Merida are the four disney female protagonist (not counting Pixar, I only included Merida since she is a princess) to not have that personality which is why are likable. The only issues they have is the movie itself especially Raya's movie theme being the trust message that is dangerous to followed, Zootopia's twist villain, the way Elsa is handle in the movies, and the bear curse parts.
Disney TV shows also have this issues with female protagonists, but not gonna say much since I am not sure if you know or not.
I haven’t seen like 3 of the movies listed here (Moana, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Brave) 😂 but I’ll trust that you know what you’re talking about, since I’ve seen Asha being compared to previous “adorkable” female leads like Rapunzel, Anna, Moana, and Mirabel in other Wish reviews.
The other 4 can have their quirkiness justified by being extremely sheltered and/or an outlier in their respective communities. However, this is not true of Asha, who is not only well known but also loved in Rosas—by her family, her friends, and heck, even the QUEEN.
It definitely feels like Disney got too comfortable with its formula, and in trying to please both modern audiences and older fans, they ended up pleasing no one. They’re so focused on making sequels and live action remakes now (which I guess is… easier??) 😅 I don’t know why Disney doesn’t make characters that are unique yet strong in their own ways. They’re capable of innovative characters (even if the execution of the overall stories aren’t great), as we see in Frozen and Zootopia (movies I have seen).
I did hear there was a lot of executive meddling in Wish’s production, so I wonder if this is why Asha had an unexplained quirkiness to her rather than a character that makes more sense for what she is and where she comes from. With her dad being a philosopher, I could see Asha working better as a quiet and introspective type who learns to be brave and to speak up for her own dreams and the dreams of those she loves rather than being a passive stander-by. This would actually give her a stronger character arc and growth rather than remaining static as she does in the actual movie we got 😔
