remember dear writers,
your writing is a privilege, not a right. It is shared with others and not for them.
write what makes you happy + not what everybody else claims they want because their minds change like the wind. That fic is still just as perfect with or without smut and thousands of notes.
people’s reading comprehension or lack thereof is not your problem. If they can’t understand your art, it’s not for them, period. Don’t let it discourage you. You are also not responsible for anyone else’s perception of your work.
POST YOUR WORK! Stop being scared and share that shit because the right audience will find you.
you are not a content machine. If these ‘readers’ can’t be vexed to care about your well-being and wanna unfollow bc you’re not pumping out fics everyday, FUCK EM. and I mean that wholeheartedly.
lastly, you are in competition with nobody. This is for fun and nothing else. Find your tribe, enjoy your fandom/fixation and leave the other shit to the birds. This is not high school, this is not Mean Girls + we’re all adults (I hope). We’re all a bunch of weirdos simping for drawings.

Can I just say that, as someone who has been writing for several years, sometimes it's so hard not to compare myself to and confuse myself with the writer I used to be. Sometimes I'll be looking at a fic that's around two thousand words off being finished and be like, "sweet", I'll finish that tomorrow", because, yeah, my fourteen year old self could knock out two thousand words a day like it was nothing. I often forget that those days are long gone, and whilst I'm still capable of writing two thousand words or more in a day, it's not my normal anymore, and it's much more likely that that fic will be finished in several four hundred word sessions in between my social life, work, and, (mostly) crippling neurodivergent procrastination. But, on the flip side, I also often forget how bad some of my writing used to be, and although it now usually takes me weeks to complete a story that used to take me days to finish, the words I use now are chosen with much more care, understood much more clearly, and utlised much more effectively. It can be hard to remember how productive I used to be, but knowing how I've bloomed in other ways definitely helps.

It seems that I am finding myself writing a continuation of that Xavier smutfic by hand
BY HAND!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you know how long that takes?????? Though I do employ drafting fics by hand every now and then because it's less distracting and I am forced to think about the words and I can slow down and be ignorant of other pressures – it's quieter too (also I just love the feel of holding a pen and writing on paper).
Anyway I won't touch other wips (next priority is the last chapter of the novelist au 🤞) until I finish this one first. I need to exorcise this fiend!!!! I'm pouring all my horny onto it!!!

My insurmountable writing issue these days is how the fuck do I write a fated couple as good as fucking Percabeth?
Like I've got ideas a plenty. But the idea of writing about a couple that will impact multiple generations, change the way people perceive love and how they deserve to be loved? Insur-fucking-mountable bros (G.N.)

I've been having the hardest time with all of my projects recently, and I think one of the main things contributing to my frustration is this idea that you just need to bulldoze your way through drafting.
For a lot of people, drafting means getting down as many words as possible at one time and then going back and reshaping that mess. And, I mean, we see this kind of advice floating around all the time don't we? So much so that we've made up terms to describe them--fast draft/zero draft/the piece of shit draft--and while that works for some people, I don't think it works for me.
In all of my time as a writer, the farthest I've gotten into a draft of a novel without going back to make major edits is about 10k. And even then I was still making minuscule changes here and there. But after I hit that 10k mark, I have to go back and reevlatulate what I've just written, and more times than not, what I've written doesn't fit with what I wanted to write, or I come up with a new plot idea that completely contradicts what I previously wrote and this is especially prevalent in my fantasy projects.
For a lot of people, this wouldn't be as big of a problem as it is for me. A lot of people would simply make a note of it, and move on, continue on with the story with the new ideas in mind. But when I try to do that, I get stuck. I fixate on the beginning and all of the things wrong with it, I feel like whatever I write after it doesn't fit with the rest of the story, that the shift in tone is too noticeable, the introduction of a character, the erasure of another, the weaving of a new plot thread feels too sudden. And I just stop.
I just stop entirely. I burn out. Instead of going back, editing the first 10k, hell, even throwing it out and trying again, I get into this rut I can't get out of. It's kinda like trying to run in quicksand and then being surprised that you get stuck.

If I ever manage to get enough energy, I will start working on the one idea in drafts that involves Jon Antilles being roped into a marriage of convenience to Nyx Ulric bc I cater to no one but myself with crossover ideas like these lmao

Hii!! I’m super fan of your writing and I can’t wait to read the chapter 3 of On Servitude. It will be out any time soon? Please!! I’ve been waiting for so long haha. Happy holidays ❤️
Lol I know it’s been since like around this time last year! I’ve got tons of stuff I want to get out, including ch 3, and honestly very little time to write it. When I started writing for this fandom I had a pretty flexible job and no kids, and now I am full time with my toddler who never sleeps and never stops running!! So I miss my writing goals often, both here and my original stuff, but I get to really focus on taking care of my kiddo and trying to be the kind of parent I want to be. I really appreciate everyone’s patience while I do that. ❤️ especially because I SEE people in this fandom who have kids and wrote PROLIFICALLY and I’m like HOW!!!!!

A point of clarification for my fanfic readers and for ppl who follow my Zelda content.
I do not consider Zelda and Hylia one in the same (except for sksw). It simply does not make sense to me, and I feel like when people DO try to make them the same, it's to cope with the fact that Hylia is KINDA shitty.
Demise's curse has three people in it: 1) An incarnation of his hatred 2) Those with the spirit of the hero 3) Those with the blood of the goddess
Descendants.
I don't think it's out of character at all for the goddess to completely ignore Zelda in Breath of the Wild. In fact, I think that's just part of the cycle taking its toll on everyone. The goddesses appear to only want the incarnation of hatred destroyed and will do this through any means necessary. As long as the end goal of Destroy Ganon happens, fuck everyone else. They flooded the entire got damn land with unlivable waters for crying out loud. I don't think Hylia's silence was a mistake. I think it was by design. The threat WAS destroyed, it's just that the goddesses no longer care about the cost.
Why would they when it'll just happen all over again? I think THAT'S something very interesting to explore but nintendo are cowards and actually all of this was totally necessary BITING NINTENDO BITING NINTENDO BITING NINTENDO
EDIT: fuck it adding to this. Hylia even admits that she uses these tactics in Skyward Sword. Granted, a mortal needed to wield the triforce, but she constructed the perfect manipulation tactic to get Link to do what she wanted. She apologized profusely for this and regretted it, but would that remain through a millennia of watching her hero get reincarnated and changing over and over again?? IN THIS ESSAY I WILL-

I do like stumbling across an editing choice and going "I'm not sure if this is self-indulgent or if it'll be emotionally devastating for readers... but it's happening."
