When The Sun Was Stolen Chapter 1 notes

An extensive notes detailing of WTSWS’s chapter 1 by @aquarius-saint and me

Note 1 - Similarities and differences with the wip

This chapter is vastly different from the first chapter in my original wip and it's better for it. To differentiate the two, the original's title was Missing - Who Was It? (MWWI) which is vastly different compared to the final name of the fic When The Sun Was Stolen (WTSWS).

MWWI only had 2 chapters originally and the original draft of chapter 2 was not used for WTSWS at all. The second chapter of MWWI had a timeskip to focus on the two pov characters - Baek and Jin, Tai’s brothers. Baek is the prototype for Aiolia while Jin is the prototype for Aiolos. The chapter started 2 months after the initial disappearance with Baek and Jin’s solo investigation and talking with Tai’s best friend, Jun, and Jun’s boyfriend, Yuma. Jun is the prototype for Shun while Yuma’s role is now Hyoga’s

In comparison, WTSWS starts us off in the same day with the pov of recurring pov character June. We see through her eyes how Seiya has changed in WTSWS and we get to see how it was a very normal day when Seiya and Marin are both kidnapped. And, more importantly, she and Freya are the ones who get the immediate horror discovery. Fun stuff! Let’s get into it more.

Note 2 - June and Freya

They’re so cute cute cute. We don’t care that they never met, June and Freya are canon now.

June and Freya day (June 10) was the day that we first created the ship thanks to a currently in process Yu-Gi-Oh/Duel Monsters AU and we have had June and Freya together ever since.

Note 3 - June getting too close to solving it all

Oh poor poor June. . . you were so close to preventing this tragedy. I’m sure this won’t cause any longlasting guilt. . . of course. . .

Spoiler alert: GUILT COMPLEX

June has two near encounters with Seiya = before the confrontation between Seiya and the stalker and after the confrontation.

Before the confrontation - 5:25 pm, June almost sees Seiya waiting for the stalker in the soccer field. Again, that confrontation is written but, alas, not to be seen yet.

After the confrontation - between 5:52 - 6:03, June sees people (plural) between the West Hall and the club building. This is, indeed, the stalker. This is when he is moving the unconscious Seiya out of the school.

So, yes, June crossed paths with this danger twice

i'm honored you decided to follow me even though you don't listen to bvb! while i love their music, i started running this blog as a place to collect and share photos. blogging is kinda therapeutic and calming to me.

i don't know what the theme of your blog is (if you have a theme), but if i follow you, i probably reblog onto one of my side blogs! over the years, I have gained a lot of other interests, and the number of side blogs for this account has been increasing. i also follow a lot of blogs! i think it's close to the max amount, because sometimes i have to go on an unfollowing spree and unfollow the inactive accounts in order to follow more blogs.

if you're looking to start listening to bvb, i think you could check out a song or two from every album, and see for yourself which album you might want like. i think every bvb album has a distinct sound, and each has fans who says that album is their favorite.

i'll often just listen to bvb's whole discography all the way through because the songs often flow into one another, so i like to listen to them in order. they tell a story! this is especially true with the wretched and divine album. however the songs or albums are also good individually, so you can listen to them on their own too.

Would you ever make a playlist for any of your fics? Random but the song nfwmb by Hozier gives me WTSW ,the Sea will have vibes ⛵

I would and I do, anon! Not for every fic, but especially with longer ones, I find playlists are really useful for getting in the mood to write (unfortunately I can't write to music, I find it too distracting).

I have a pretty messy What the Sea Wants, the Sea Will Have one, but it's one I love a lot, haha, and really sinks me into that universe. Not sure how I'll go with linking since I'm on Tidal now, but you can have a listen here if you'd like some pirate-y vibes ;-)

Just finished watching "When They See Us"

And I feel so much and at the same time I feel empty, I don't know how to react. Tears keep falling and I just need to vent.

Not being a US citizen, I had never heard of this case, so when the trailer popped up, I was curious even though I am not really into this type of series.

It took me a whole day to finish the first episode alone and I felt so suffocated and trapped just seeing just imagining being in their shoes, and I think the show did an amazing job at this.

I don't really have a lot of information regarding the history of the States, and what I do know is mostly though movies and series that make me want to research more.

But this was another level. The way they were treated by the justice, by the media and the masses was crushing. Even if I knew how it was going to end, through out the four episodes I was so scared for them, so so scared.

Being a latina myself, it pains me so much how the black and latino community were treated, and I don't know if it's still like that. Most of the time cases like this are said to be "just events from the past", but shit... This is recent, and it's painful and so surreal in a way to know that and seeing how it's treated like it's so old it doesn't matter, because it does.

I don't know enough words of the English language to explain how much this series has affected me.

I'm really thankful for this series because it made me so aware of a lot of things and now I can see with other eyes and another perspective how difficult it is to be human for others, so if someone could share some more information about the case or something they'd like to tell me about the I'd be really thankful

So, I have a few observations. First of all, C was in Atlanta area Saturday for his book signing. It’s where I usually go, but I had a work conflict this year. W has family ties in ATL, so that was probably where he was spotted, he normally is there, I have seen him every year there so far. Atlanta is in Georgia. (Southern USA.) Wait for It. Lyrics. Yeah. He almost seemed violent on that song, like he wanted to pick a fight. I know that’s the song, but I think he did it rather too well.

I knew W had family there so not surprised he was present. C needs to keep up the pretense and he had not been seen in quite some time. People were truly starting to wonder if they “broke up” and I honestly don’t see that happening as long as d is stuck. W offers enormous protection.

D spoke through every damn song he sang last night. He could not have been more clear. I think @leka-1998’s discovery that he switched the pronoun from he to she “she keeps winning” was him virtually screaming from the rooftops about his situation and his frustration. He wants and needs to win. And he’s desperate for people to finally start listening to him and to stop ignoring what is incredibly obvious. And yes he was angry, pouring his emotion about his situation into that performance.

Then we have ERTW about corruption.

WTSW is incredibly impactful and speaks for itself. “I try to speak, but nobody can hear.” We heard you d. You were quite clear. No one can say you did not try to speak in every manner possible.

Then we have WIAB. He has said so frequently H/edwig is his favorite show and his dream role. I remember the review when he started in San Fran and the comment was that he must have been through a bad break up between broadway and San Fran as his performance was so much angrier. And it was. In the 15 months between shows his life changed and the PR got so much worse. He said his favorite song is The Long Grift. Is about a swindle.

And last night he put his entire heart and soul into his performance. A song about hiding behind a wig and make up.

The character of H/edwig clearly resonates with him and is so deeply important. I think playing that character was deeply cathartic for him and in some ways healing just like writing is for C.

for sure! my WTNV au is actually something I was doing back in 2016, so there’s like 4-5 pages of content for it on my blog if you’d like to look through the old posts; they should be tagged ‘wtnv au’, and this link should take you to the beginning of all of them (but tumblr has been screwing with my links lately, so apologies if it doesn’t work, lmk and i’ll fix it).

making the AU was probably one of my favorite times in the fandom, because so many people were excited for it and it spurred a lot of amazing creativity and content! @itty-bittle wrote an INCREDIBLE fic based on it (GO READ IT RN) and @tronnies-art-blog made this fantastic piece of art.

the AU is pretty simple, i just blended omgcp into the wtnv setting and characters. I’ll put a rundown of everyone’s roles / fun details below.

Bitty (taking Cecil’s role) - host of WTSW (Welcome to Samwell), a student-run radio station for one of the strangest universities to ever exist

Jack The Historian / Photographer - based directly off of Carlos The Scientist. not a cryptid except for his abnormally beautiful cheekbones (according to bitty)

Intern Nursey - in charge of research and information gathering for WTSW. One of the only people to survive the librarians, but as a result of his run-in with them, he is constantly dripping ink and can only speak in proverbs.

Intern Dex - in charge of general maintenance and upkeep for WTSW and the station headquarters. Perpetually on fire!

Intern Chowder - in charge of being cool i guess (probably publicity). shark boy

The Wingman - Holster, but he’s a terrifying 6-8 winged angel with fiery eyes and a really LOUD voice (not that different from regular Holster). deliberately referencing Wingman, the devastating AU comic Ngozi herself made, in which Rans & Holster are firemen and holster fucking DIES

Ransom - possibly one of the only normal people at Samwell, which is probably why the Wingman keeps following him around trying to protect him

Providence McFalconer - based off Hiram McDaniels; a terrifying amalgam of all of the falconers into one many-headed dragon body

Kit Purrson - essentially Khoshekh. stuck floating in the station bathroom

Kent Parson - steve carlsberg....

Station Management - Lardo, but she’s an eldritch horror (again, not that different from regular Lardo)

The Shitty Old Student Who Lives In Your Dorm - he’s there

Johnson - does anyone actually remember Johnson from omgcp itself? i feel like a grandma whenever i mention him. anyway he’s sweating, this is too much canon divergence even for him

An extensive notes detailing of WTSWS’s chapter 2 by @aquarius-saint and me

Note 1- Comparisons to Missing - Who Was It?

This is where the original draft (MWWI) and WTSWS finally deviate. As mentioned in the notes for chapter 1, MWWI continued months after the kidnapping while WTSWS shows the reactions of the victim’s family. Honestly, this was for the best. It makes everything better to include the Nephus-Hoshino family’s reaction because this is where this fic shines in my opinion - what happens when the bonds of love (familial, friendship and romantic) are forcibly strained by someone is who is forcing a bond (the stalker)?

Note 2 - POV Characters

Diving straight into the story, we finally see the pov of characters Seina, Sisyphus, Aiolos and Seika. They are the Nephus-Hoshino blended family. While there’s no Aiolia pov yet, there will be in later chapters.

Discussed in the prologue notes, the nuclear Nephus-Hoshino family (besides Seiya) consists of Seina Hoshino, Sisyphus Nephus, Seika Hoshino, Aiolos Nephus and Aiolia Nephus.

Seina Hoshino is Seiya and Seika’s bio mom, an original character with beautiful art made by @midostree-art who has made art coms for gaycalculator and me, including Ai Hino, June, SeiPan, and Juneya (check them out, their art is fantastic!). In charge of her pov was mostly gaycalculator who has written this woman really well and has done her a lot of justice. Seina is a motherly character who is loving and kind but has a spunky attitude. When creating her, we based a lot of her looks and personality on Seiya (we don’t see much of Seika’s personality in the og Saint Seiya, it’s free real estate). Her pov finally gives Seiya in our writing a mother that he never had in canon that could help him. If only we could’ve allowed her to be with her baby longer.

Sisyphus Nephus is Seiya, Aiolos and Aiolia’s bio father. He is Sagittarius Sisyphus from the Saint Seiya spin-off The Lost Canvas. Since we see Seina’s pov in the flashback with Seiya for October 2, we wanted Sisyphus’ pov to show how things are in the present. Also I don’t think we could’ve recovered as writers if we had done it through Seina’s pov because Seina is a bit more emotional compared to her husband who has a bad habit of bottling/suppressing his emotions.

Aiolos Nephus is Seiya’s big brother (half-brother who share a dad) who lives in an apartment with his boyfriend Saga. This relationship will be explored more as the fic progresses so we didn’t talk more about Saga in this chapter, just alluding to him. For his flashback, we see how dangerously close Seiya was to danger even before the stalker kidnaps him about five days later and the strain he has thanks to that stalker.

Seika Hoshino remains Seiya’s big sister (half-sister who share a mom) who still lives at home with her parents and little brother. Seika is currently a college student. Since, as mentioned previously, Seika wasn’t given much to show off her personality in the og anime so we have decided to show off how we envision Seika. Through her flashback, we are able to see Seiya hours before his stalker confrontation and before his kidnapping. It’s sad that the both planned to eat together because Seiya genuinely thought that the confrontation would end everything and he can be with his friends and family normally. Unfortunately, it did not end everything and he might never see his family again.

Seika and Aiolos are major pov characters going forward while we will see Seina and Sisyphus’ pov every so often.

Note 3 - Names

So most Saint Seiya characters don’t have this funny thing called last names.

In a modern au, where most people have last names, we had to create a lot of them through some research. Here are the ones thus far for this chapter:

Seina, depending on how it’s written, can mean “beautiful star”. “Sei” was a part of her name we wanted to keep to further connect her to her children Seiya (which was written by Kurumada as “star arrow”) and Seika (written as “star flower” which is so cute).

Hoshino can be written with kanji that means “star” (Hoshi) and “field, wilderness” (no). Keeping with the star theme for Seiya, Seika and Seina. Their last name was almost Hino but that last name went to someone else (stay tuned)

Nephus, meanwhile, is a Greek last name that means “a God's son who will also become a God”. It just really seemed to fit Sisyphus, Aiolos and Aiolia and, to an extent, Seiya as he is a Nephus too.

Seiya Hoshino-Nephus would be his name if hyphenated names were more common in Japan. We did learn that, technically, as a child of a Westerner, it can be hyphenated but, to keep it simple, it’s just Seiya Hoshino. You will catch me full naming him anyways.

Note 4 - The Timeline

The timeline finally comes in! Here we go!

September 28 - Seiya sleeps over in Aiolos and Saga’s apartment after something happens to Seiya (spoiler alert: stalker related), the last time Aiolos spends time with his little brother.

October 1 - Seiya and Shun have a fight (mentioned by Seina in her flashback).

October 2 - Seiya and Seina see each other last before Seina and Sisyphus leave for work.

October 3 - Seiya and Seika flashback at breakfast, the last time Seika sees her brother, Seiya confronts his stalker, Seiya and Marin are kidnapped, June and Freya discover the aftermath, the police alert the family

Note 5 - The Stalker

A looming presence in all the flashbacks and definitely in the present.

We have the slightly open curtain shown in Seina’s flashback, and Seiya hiding the phone (since he was looking at the stalker’s messages leading up to the confrontation) in Seika’s flashback.

However, the most present thing in all three flashbacks, and especially in Aiolos’ pov, is Seiya’s frantic, out of character behavior.

We have him quietly holed up in his room in Seina’s flashback in a dark room under his covers (hiding himself from being seen from his window). He had a fight with his best friend and is completely isolated from his friends at this point (as seen from June’s pov in chapter 1).

We have him shaking with fear in Aiolos’ flashback that alludes to him running all the way to Aiolos’ apartment since he’s out of breath, there’s leaves on him, and his heart is pounding. He’s pale and looks like he had been crying (he had been crying), he mentions his grades are slipping and he snaps at Aiolos when he normally wouldn’t. Aiolos even compares Seiya’s current state to episodes where Saga doesn’t sleep or eat and that’s because that’s what’s happening to Seiya. He isn’t eating or sleeping.

Finally, in Seika’s flashback, we see him quiet, almost as if his usual fire was put out, and introspective but he at least is able to nibble on some food.

This is all the cause of the stalking which has been outlined by gaycalculator and I already with a timeline of the horrifying events Seiya went through even before getting kidnapped. This will come to light eventually as that is the mystery.

Another subtle influence of the stalking is how Seiya, a boy who relies a lot on his friends and family in canon, has been changed to an isolated victim who keeps on rejecting his family reaching out to help him because he’s so terrified and feels he is alone. It’s a tragic shift for his character and I hope it affects the reader as much as it did to me and my cowriter when we wrote WTSWS Seiya because Seiya Hoshino-Nephus didn’t deserve what happened to him.

Note 6 - the fun area

Some fun little facts after the depressing note 5

Seiya is an otaku, with a big emphasis on him being a Gundam fan in WTSWS. His VA, Toru Furuya, voices Amuro Ray, the main character of Mobile Suit Gundam.

Seika, Seiya, Aiolos and Aiolia are all athletes. Seiya is a soccer player, Seika is a track star, Aiolos is an Olympian archer that represents Japan in the Olympics and Aiolia is a national swimmer that represents Japan in competition. The texts between Marin and Seiya in the prologue make a note of Aiolia going through the Olympic trials

Sisyphus and Seina are employed by the Graude Foundation, aka the Kido’s business.

Seina and Sisyphus becoming a couple has been discussed before and that might become a side story one day.

Saga is mentioned to be doing a commission because he is an artist (specifically a traditional painter) in WTSWS. He and Aiolos met in university in Greece.

Aiolos, Aiolia, Seika and Seiya hardly refer to each other as “step-siblings” or “half-siblings”. They are just “brothers/sister”. This can be seen when Seika runs to Aiolia and Aiolos to cry, how Seika and Aiolos refer to Seiya as just their “little brother” and how Seiya calls Aiolos “nii-san”.

"People were truly starting to wonder if they “broke up” -- This was a frequent refrain back in the day, funny that Abby will dust it up now. Nobody ever wondered if they broke up except the tinhats. Any time a pic of Chris alone appeared, the "rumors" were started by the tinhats. Then inevitably it either transpired that Will was there, or they were seen together later on. But for a really long time "maybe they broke up" was like the elusive holy grail of tinhat hopes and dreams.

I said last month that the Tinhatters were drunk on the idea that Ryan Murphy is about to help Darren come out and that Darren spent the first half of the year “promoting Mia”-something Abby has decided is one of the main demands that Mia has given Darren and that must be fulfilled in order for him to complete his list of tasks before he can walk away. Then she read Chris’s new book and she was beside herself with all the data points that proved things are about to change. They spent 4 or 5 days just frantically talking about the great signs of things to come and know, after Elsie, there are again many posts about how optimistic they feel about the future. Limited photos of Mia during the event (so far) and Darren’s set list is two of the data point that makes them super excited. Here are some recent points to back up my point:

I agree nonnie, even though she was able to hold court with some of her biggest stans, thus far, I have not really seen that D gave her much at all. My understanding is that the songs at the after party were pretty much done so M could screech and the jumping jackass could play the drums. Add that to no M&Gs and Sk being given the closing number over actual broadway vets and talent seems to indicate something good. But again, I am petrified of being optimistic.

She must right? Imagine being married to a talented musician and only being able to sing 2 songs? You would think she would have plenty of time to practice her craft. And agree on her and SK, they keep repeating the same stuff over and over and over. SK needs to stop living in the past and realize they aren’t ever going to get bigger and they only remain even slightly relevant because of D.

D did pull it off, he did the minimum required but he did not disappoint his fans. He had amazing performers, and while his personal set list was short, it was amazing and more, very transparent and the message he was sending was very clear.

On the M&Gs, i find it very interesting they did not happen. I am hoping that is D gaining back control.

Then we have ERTW about corruption.

WTSW is incredibly impactful and speaks for itself. “I try to speak, but nobody can hear.” We heard you d. You were quite clear. No one can say you did not try to speak in every manner possible.

And last night he put his entire heart and soul into his performance. A song about hiding behind a wig and make up.

The character of H/edwig clearly resonates with him and is so deeply important. I think playing that character was deeply cathartic for him and in some ways healing just like writing is for C.

Nonnie. @flowersintheattic254 and @cassie1022 and i were just talking about this. Once again d spoke volumes through his set list. He may not have played many songs but everyone one of them had a direct message. Again I wish people would listen to him but instead there will be posts saying we are crazy and they are just songs he likes. It must be incredibly frustrating to him to invest the time to make an impactful statement and be largely ignored.

She needs to just stop singing. The only place I’ve seen them are on some m/iarren stans blogs. I know there’s more out there but I’m not sure where. But god that woman needs to stop screeching into the microphone and torturing people. I think she’s getting worse.
