WTW PROMPT WEEK ↳ day 01 ; protagonist & antagonist

outrun time stars chui yunkei, who takes being fired from the police force hard and misunderstandings worst. stripped of her law-abiding do-gooder reputation, yunkei is forced into a world of supposed normality. but when the mysterious serial killer, sun wukong, she was investigating before her discharge strikes close to home, her investigation leads her to uncover a web of crime and corruption within the kowloon walled city — linked to her family's own dark past.

i. chui yunkei

her blood sings with adrenaline. the dirt path rounds and she eases up on the gas, letting the car swerve through the curve elegantly, and she flies across the finish line. all it takes is the few seconds of nothingness between her car and the finish line to make her feel alive, the rest of the world a distant memory.

ii. sun wukong

the kowloon walled city wants to remember him as a distant memory, a serial killer myth that parents tell their children as a warning to be good. yunkei wishes to be oblivious like them, to live peacefully where her only worries are if the drinking water is contaminated again or if her loud neighbours have brought trouble again with their gambling addiction. but when she closes her eyes, all she sees is blood smeared on the alley wall, a gutted body of a prostitute with the same gold band she has seen over and over again in the past three months.

Enya Arati: (etym. Irish: Eithne (fire), Hindi: Arati, the fire ritual)

The half-dragon, half-human Enya Arati is the protagonist of my story. She is the only survivor of the massacre of her family and fled from her hometown Trevena when she turned 18. Due to her strong-willed and resilient personality, she learned to fight back and take her place in the world. Most beings she meets think of her as antisocial, but she is kind towards fellow outcasts. In her daydreams, she seeks revenge by setting her hometown on fire to punish those who murdered her parents. She’s also the antagonist of her own story.

→ the tragic hero & the hand of fate. the hawk mask & the rabbit mask. the hunter & the hunted. the haunted & the haunting. the sun & the stars.

before the events of keep staring and i'll never fall asleep piedad and adam had been in a run of the mill relationship, but following the fallout of isaac's death piedad deserted with their two other friends and adam stayed behind. now, going into the events of the book he finds them and adam is set on bringing piedad and their friends back to face justice... along with doing the dirty task of killing the dangerous dreamer child, lake. piedad is set on protecting lake and won't hesitate to once again use violence to achieve this. as adam's personal feelings mix with his goal, he runs head first into the narrative of a tragic hero... because tragic heroes are, by definition, the ones holding the sole attention of the narrative. and more and more he proves he will do everything for fate to love him as much as he loves them.

Just beyond the outskirts of the coastal city, lies a small homestead and a haven for the many orphans under the protection of well-endowed gentlemen. Many had cherished their new identities, some refused. And those who lost memories were left behind.

Lev Kiesinger ; ghost from trees

If hunger had a name, it would be him, and him only. Driven by a mission, he tempers with the hopelessness and feeds on them. Yet under all that guise, he is a vessel of what was stolen from him.

Ameri Kiesinger ; changing death

She lives in two different lives. A socialite and a coroner. She had seen misfortunes more than she could count on her fingers yet it gave her life. She wears death like her gloves, ready to examine a body closer.

↳ Fenice + Aretos

They're cousins, at least if Aretos is who he truly says he is. And if he is, then they are in direct competition for the throne Fenice desires so much. They developed an unlikely friendship in Hesperia, when Aretos masqueraded as the enigmatic noble Sartore Vitae. Fenice often relied on his counsel and information to help bring Isidore under her thumb. Aretos, meanwhile, sees a lot of himself in Fenice, almost the the point of intense projection. He sees Fenice as an ally in his own vengeance against Dantalion, if only he could make her see that for herself.

↳ Fenice + Nike

They're bound for eternity in holy matrimony. Neither of them are happy about it, but their happiness hardly matters when politics is thrown into the mix. But their status as husband and wife doesn't change the fact that they, and their families, are bloody enemies. Fenice must watch her back against any of Nike's schemes, constantly aware of the viper that sleeps in her bed each night. Nike must sacrifice his pride and be subservient to the daughter of his enemy to protect his younger sister, but he cannot simply standby as his 'wife' plans to kill his brother.

↳ Nike + Aretos

Aretos and Nike have a working relationship. Aretos is one of the powers supporting Nike's brother from the shadows, and ever since Nike's marriage Aretos has been working as the liaison between the two Deominos brothers. But despite this, Nike knows Aretos is the furthest thing from a friend or ally.

Black hair parted and curled elegantly around rosy cheeks, a curving figure that stands too upright, too alert, to be anything but on edge. She’s very pretty; that goes without a doubt. But the sight of her causes all the blood in Juliette’s body to boil.

wtw character week: TROPES ↳ the marvelous deer ; follow the white rabbit

THE MARVELOUS DEER ; Deer, being wild animals, can easily be magical and mysterious presences while still being hard to reach for humans. Marvelous deer are often the quarry in hunts. Catching them may be another matter, especially since the marvelous deer tends to be a lone animal. Besides their rarity, such magical deer are often almost supernaturally elusive, sometimes to the point of being literally uncatchable. It can lead to Follow the White Rabbit. This may be what The Wild Hunt is after, if they aren't hunting humans.

THE WHITE RABBIT ; The characters are chasing an animal, for example a pet that recently started to behave unusually, or trying to hunt down a wild animal, and as they get preoccupied with the chase, suddenly they notice that they were led to a strange place that they would have little chance to find on their own.

ii. The spitting image of his father, Ezra has sworn to scour the mud from his noble house's crest, no matter how much he'll have to lie, cheat, and seduce to do it. He can't remember a time he didn't resent his brother—for their father's favoritism, for all the freedoms offered to a second son.

iii. A boy with his mother's eyes and his father's sense of responsibility, Florizel flits from role to role, shedding the last like an ill-fitting coat. As a deer bolts at the glint of a hunter's rifle, Florizel, too, knows only escape. From curses, from engagements, from oaths, from all he risks to inherit.
