BOGGART
Boggarts are one of many Faerotten organisms produced by lifeforms on the primaterial plane being exposed to Abyssal rifts. With significant enough inundation, small avian lifeforms begin to lose their feathers and congregate near the bases of trees or large stones for shelter as the Abyssal Fae energies continue to poison their systems. Faerot reroutes normal life processes to produce grotesque deformities which, in turn, give rise to magnificent and wildly misunderstood anomalous powers.
Boggarts are an extreme nuisance. Along with creatures known as Hobs & Pixies, spawned from former woodland toads or frogs & bats respectively, these small Faerotten lifeforms make their homes in the walls and foundations of frontier homes where they feed off of psychic and emotional energy. When enough congregate together in a tight enough radius, clusters of Boggarts can impact the emotional wellbeing of a household to the point of ruin. Even homes built into the sides of mountains or those with solid stone foundations are not safe, as one of the Boggart’s abilities allows it to soften stone to the point of crumbling like dirt; Boggart warrens can run as far as the warrens of the average rabbit, with less organization & more overlapping passageways. These tunnels often collapse with passing drakes & other large wildlife, and can drastically exacerbate soil erosion.
Many small animals that dwell in woodlands are quickly crushed and twisted by the violent mutagenic powers of the Abyssal rifts which open in the lonely corners of Crodecca, where settlers and mystics alike shun the land. Overland expansion across the contiguous continent of Crodecca has forced citizens to come into contact with such beasts as Gouls, Beholders, Vampyrs, Hobs, Lunanthropes, Wyches, Boggarts, Pixies and the dreaded Skinhounds. A new chapter of pseudoclerics pioneering in anti-Fae inventions have become well known in the Deng region of Daidara & wide reaches of Doshov. These “Wychunters” are called warlocks by some in passing as their worship of a fallen saint of their faith has seemingly granted them keenness of sense for the Fae & their ilk far beyond clerics of the known faiths.

FAEROT BEHOLDER
The Beholder is an eldritch mutant, produced as the final stage in the life cycle of the parasitic ‘Beholder Polyp’. Such beings attached themselves, cloaked in glamour, to Low Dragons. The parasite burrows deep, acting as a homing beacon for various Archfae to invade reality & take advantage of an infected dragon’s weak psyche. The Fae will tempt the dragon with promises of power, relief & prowess in exchange for Knowledge.
A Beholder’s skull will swell to immense proportions as the body atrophies & mutates as host to new parasitic Fae organs, which fuel an addled brain with toxins & magics unbeknownst to the waking world. The bloated skull now acts as a projectionist’s booth, where wildly-undulating patterns confuse & dazzle potential supplicants and prey alike. Able to call forth inexplicable glyphs from its spindly appendages, a Beholder makes battle iwith its vast arsenal of incantations as well as a small entourage of psionically-dominated thralls.
Tumblr media
Beholders make their lairs in caverns, abandoned mines, flooded villages, and coastal underwater caves away from large foot traffic, and prefer to interact with the world through their proxies. Often a Beholder’s large size and awkward anatomy can only be sustained by full submersion, thus usually the monsters can be found in or around water. They feed on offerings, small insects & fish, cave mammals & reptiles, and whatever else their thralls bring them; though, they are hardy creatures & can survive without food for several weeks. Beholders are lazy & self-concerned by nature, spending great swaths of time pontificating, conjecturing and dreaming.

BEHOLDER POLYP
Beholder Polyps, also known as Harlequin Vaugr Lanterns or Flying Motley, are a specialized parasitic organism created by projecting concentrated Abyssal Aurae onto corporeal biomass. Such biomass is usually accumulated into a crude pile of mashed corpses by smaller Fae-rotten creatures, in service to an Archfae from beyond the material plane. The polyp, once created near a rift into the Abyss, searches out for for the smell of a Great Dragon. Wychunters theorize they do this with the help of a yet-undetermined organelle, honing in to the smell of a Great Dragon’s arcanorganic catalyst-organs which allow them to cast fantastical spells without the use of focii.
Beholder Polyps are not uniform in structure, but follow an basic body plan which includes a central trunk or mantle which hosts the majority of the brain & sensory organs, one or more large eyes, a pair or more buoyancy organs, and a suite of respiratory & digestive apparatuses. The primary respiratory system has an additional pathway connected to the digestive system. The parasite does need to feed semi-regularly until it reaches a suitable host using its various bioluminescent bands & lures to dazzle smaller animals such as bats, small reptiles, large insects and birds. Once stunned with pulsating bands of light, the Polyp will extrude its lung-beak from below the central trunk & burrow into the host’s lower spine first, consuming the spinal column before working its way to the brain for its fatty contents. Sated, the Polyp lifts into the air once again with an acrid jet of glittering air and it continues it’s hunt.
Upon reaching a suitable host, the Great Dragon in question will already have been dazed by isolation and madness in most cases. The Polyp enters the victim’s Lair & will send out powerful psionic and pheromonal pulses to make contact, zero in, and settle at the lower spine above the hind legs. With powerful numbing agents and the host’s mind fully enticed by Fae promises of power and strength, the Polyp engages its suite of digestive organs surrounding the lung-beak’s housing to dissolve away tough scales & tissue. The lung-beak extrudes one final time, gnawing away with insectile consistency until the wound is large enough to accept the digestive suite. The parasite then anchors itself and its brain & nervous system burrows deeper into the host, leaving its body to atrophy & wither eventually into a dangling skintag.

Devilfolk Acolyte from Urgol’s Rest.
Urgol’s Rest is nestled deep in the macroorganic realm nicknamed The Maw by pilgrims. Devilfolk are created by their True Devil (extremely powerful, fundamentally law-driven entities) patrons, sculpted from ashen clay and defaced ritualistically before a cinder from their patron is pressed into the ragged wound where the heart once was.
This flame is not affected by terrestrial winds, nor terrestrial magics, as it is a representation of life force rather than a flame of normal understanding. Their appearances, alien and often intimidating to mortals from the primaterial plane of Oth, lend certain advantages when dealing with said mortals; as such their usefulness as court aids, bodyguards, sages, and soldiers are highly valued.
