XM:A and XM:DP might not have been great movies but they were great movies, with so much potential.

The cast was absolutely top notch, and I’ll forever be grateful that the alternate universe version of the X-Men gave us McAvoy and Fassbender as Cherik.

It really sucks that things were derailed when they started with such promise and I really wish someone brings that cast (or at least those two) back for more (and does cherik better this time). I don’t think the MCU will do them justice (as much as I love it, their characterisation is inconsistent, and I don’t want that to happen to the X Men), but I hold out hope.

The movie gets a lot of shit and, whilst I think it gets too much hatred, it's not the best "X Men" movie, but it ("X-Men: Dark Phoenix") does have one of my favourite introductions, and genuinely heartstring pulling moments of characterisation: At the opening, when Jean "Worst Character" Grey is sad and hollowed out and feeling different and alone because of her powers and the ostracisation from society, Charles Xavier comes in and gives her a pen, telling her that she can have it, that it's a gift, just like hers... It's a really endearing, accurate, lovely characterisation of Charles which gets lost a lot in various adaptations. Maybe I just adore the "X Men" I mean, I do...

my least favorite part of Dark Phoenix (2019) was when they tried to make it seem like Erik and Hank both loved Raven in the same way. Literally Erik hasn't seemed interested in Raven since the goddamn 70s and even then he was willing to kill her if it would save their future, like that doesn't scream true love to me. For me this isn't an issue with the characters its more of an issue with the writers, like, I hated Raven and Erik's relationship in these movies so much... its almost like they wanted to play off the *tension* between them in the og movies and make it actually a romance but... it just didnt work because they changed Raven WAYY too much for that to make sense.

Anyways Raven and Hank deserved more and the movies did them so fucking dirty by introducing them as having romantic tension and never giving them the chance to be together even when they were literally leading a fucking team together. Like I get that part of this may have been because of the actors who actually dated and broke up but still, killing Raven in that movie didn't have to fucking happen. They could've chosen anyone and they chose probably one of the least meaningful people to have Jean kill, and all Hank could do was confess his love for her while she was dying in his arms.
