X-Men 1991 #2 by Chris Claremont
"You choose to see me solely as the man I was. Is that then what I am?!"
Excalibur 2004 #8 by Chris Claremont
"And after all this time, no matter what I do, how hard I try... that's how people choose to see me. It's as though I'm not allowed to change."
Sometimes you get the feeling that the author is speaking directly to other authors...

thinking about rictor and star visiting ric's hometown in mexico from the pov of people who knew him growing up and his family. like you went to school with the kid of the local gunrunner. halfway through high school he fucks off for several years and then just shows back up one day with a random white boy in tow and they stop a robbery and just dip. or like, you're ric's mom and he brings this seven foot tall slightly unnerving boy home with him and is just like. yeah his name is shatterstar. he's american. he's my best friend. no further questions. said boy has swords and he makes an unnerving amount of eye contact and has an accent you can't identify but he speaks excellent spanish. and you feed them and they leave and then spend the next several months systematically dismantling your family's gunrunning operation. then he and your son disappear. insane.
