Blue-Green Mountains and Rivers
The blue-green shan shui (simplified Chinese: 青绿山水; traditional Chinese: 青綠山水; pinyin: Qīng-Lǜ Shān-Shuǐ), is a Chinese painting style of "shan shui". The main colours of the paintings are blues and greens. (Source)
Tumblr media
Emperor Minghuang's Journey to Sichuan; a blue-green shan shui painting depicting the flight of Emperor Xuanzong from Chang'an, a late Ming Dynasty painting after an original by Qiu Ying (1494–1552).
.
The aesthetic brought on by this art style is acknowledged and celebrated to this day. Probably the most notable example would be this dance last year, that imitated the blue-green mountains using a clever combination of dyed clothing and choreography.
youtube
.
There are cosplays like this too, paying homage to the style.
.
See 19:50 mark for a whole CAKE!
youtube
.
And in the currently airing Cdrama New Life Begins, there's a whole sequence of a banquet held with a blue-green shan shui diorama as the backdrop! (End of episode 5 and beginning of ep 6)

If you know of more examples please feel free to share!😍

RAINDROP ON GRASS BLADES, LEADING YOU A GAIJIN'S TREAT PATH. A GENTLE PURR BETRAYS TRUST.
Tumblr media
"Xibai, there is no such thing as a samurai cat woman in Cantha. That's just a rumor, some of those stories you tell your children to behave!" Ximeng complained loudly to the trees, hands thrown into the air in exasperation.
At their feet the muddy slap of their boots into the freshly sodden mud rang through the trees like gunshots almost on their own. Their thick, slated and clunky Xunlai Jade exo-suits serving no better for the weight that would sludge them only deeper like quicksand if they attempted to walk lightly.
"I don't know. I've been hearing reports back from the Ministry of Defense that there's more than just gang activity--and besides, even the Brotherhood and the Speakers are on edge! Someone's been offing their lieutenants like they were small fry gangbangers!"
Xibai's distressed tone of voice echoed through the trees, bouncing like ricocheting gunshots through the branches and leaves before falling on what seemed like a dead silent forest. The rain pattering drowned out the sound not long after, leaving the empty chittering and bustling of the typical wildlife.
"Hey, wait!" Ximeng put her arm out to stop their companion, both of them looking down to the muddy ground to see sitting in a nice, daintily tied but wet bag and old red envelope and a few plastic-wrapped candies. She couldn't help but cheer out: "Ohhh yeah! Score!"
But above them, clung to the mossy and slippery ruins waited an apex predator. Invasive, and new to this ecological bubble of Cantha.
Tumblr media
The two Brotherhood gangsters followed a trail of year-old candies and trinkets to the end of the hill. Now standing in the open rain, moonlight casting down from above the opening in the tree canopy. There were smiles on their faces, picking apart the crinkly plastic wrap in the middle of the muddy forest.
They were interrupted only shortly by the wet slap of something landing behind them. A large, hulking figure larger than any human or Tengu. It was neither--and it asked in a calm, petit voice:
"Are you the Maul Twins?"
The only words out of the twins mouth were "Yes--".
Tumblr media
THEN THERE WAS SILENCE.

A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains" (千里江山图) is one of my favorite paintings. I learnt how to draw Chinese painting when I was in kindergarten, and this is the painting shown by my teacher at the first painting class. I remember I was totally stunned by its beauty and elegance when I saw it. Then I got great interest in learning painting.
This famous Chinese painting was created by the Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng (王希孟) in the 12th century. It is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Chinese landscape painting and is housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing. The painting depicts a panoramic landscape of China, featuring various rivers, mountains, valleys, and villages. Created using ink and color on silk, this five meters long painting is divided into two parts, with the upper section depicting the rivers and the lower section depicting the mountains. I can only show a part of this painting here because it is too long😂
Why it sticks with me is because of the beauty and elegance of this painting. The painting uses a technique known as "axial symmetry," which creates a balance and harmony in the image and allows the viewer to feel as though they are moving through the landscape. The painter used subtle, muted colors to create a sense of serenity and calm, and the intricate details in the trees, rocks, and water help to create a realistic and immersive landscape.
The cultural and historical significance of this painting is also an important reason why I like it so much. "A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains" is a masterpiece of Chinese art and a symbol of the country's natural and cultural heritage, and its beauty lies in its combination of artistic technique, cultural significance, and aesthetic appeal of China. It represents the natural beauty of China and its cultural heritage, and also reflects the aspirations of the Song Dynasty, which sought to create a prosperous and peaceful society.

Wang Ximeng - A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains
1113 Categories:Works of Art/Traditional Chinese Landscape Paintings
Scroll entitled "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains," 51.5 cm long by 1191.5 cm wide, made of silk, without a mark, and now on display in the Palace Museum, features a panoramic view of the rivers and lakes, as well as long-distance overhead and multi-point perspective.
The author employs mineral hues, lime green with ochre in the centre, which are different and attractive. Houses, birds, and bridges are buried within the multi-layered peaks. The old Chinese colour scheme and the painting of mountains and rivers, which seem like mountains and lakes from afar and have the detail of "Easter eggs" when seen up close, supply me with a significant amount of inspiration for my work.
The distinctive colour palette and brushwork on the mountain peaks give me a special perspective on the environment from several ages, enabling me to paint the peaks of my hometown in a generic manner.
Wang Ximeng. (1113). A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains [Painting]. Traditional Chinese Landscape Art.
