so imagining you're sick and you're trying to hide it from minghao bc you don't want him to worry

it's funny you think you're getting past the8 😭🫶

but you wake up late, realizing he's already out of bed and making you some breakfast and some tea

your head is KILLING you :( and your throat feels so itchy, your voice coming out hoarse when you tried calling for minghao

you think, "crap, how am i supposed to hide this?"

"oh, good morning, lovey," he coos, walking into your room with a tray of breakfast

you grab the tea, put a crap ton of honey in it, and chug it down to ease the pain in your throat

"babe, that was right off the kettle. don't burn yourself," he says, trying to take the tea away from you.

you clear your throat and thank god your throat feels better

"morning, hao," you smile at him

"don't 'morning' me when you just nearly chugged boiling water," he sasses you, making you smile cheekily at him

"i was just really thirsty," you say, reaching to pet his head. "thank you for this."

"i figured i should surprise you," he says. "you were shivering when i woke up this morning."

crap, does he know?

"it was just cold," you counter, making him nod slowly.

"you're so pretty," he smiles, leaning in to give you a big smooch on the lips. "eat up. i have to get ready."

he gets ready for work, and before he leaves, he walks over to you as you are getting ready, and he places his hand on your cheek

he caresses your cheek with his hand and tilts his head as he looks at you with heart eyes

"if you need anything, anything at all, call me and i'll be right over," he says before giving your forehead a kiss and then leaving

later in the day, the pain is so bad that you physically cannot do it at work

you're working so hard, but your boss noticed how terrible you seemed to feel (and looked), so he sent you home early

and now you're dragging your feet as you walk out of the office

suddenly your phone starts ringing and you startle, sniffling and trying to breathe normally before picking up

"oh- h-hey, minghao," you say, nervously chuckling

"i was thinking about you," he says. "but why do you sound off?"

you start coughing and rush to mute your mic, but it's too late

"y/n, i know you're coughing. no need to hide it," he says

you unmute and sheepishly say, "i'm sorry, i didn't want you to worry."

"i'm not worried about your coughing," he says, matter-of-factly.

"oh, okay," you say, awkwardly.

"see, both of us can lie," he says, sassily.

"hao, what the heck are you talking about? 😭😭😭" you say, confused

"i know you're sick, dummy," he says. "that's why i'm here to pick you up from work"

"minghao... WHAT?! you have work!"

"don't give me that, get in the car already," he says, honking the car horn, making you turn to see his car nearby

you get in the car and you both start scolding each other like

"i told you that you shouldn't overwork yourself and now you're sick!"

"you didn't have to call off work for me! i'm fine!"

"don't say you're fine when you sound like a croaking frog when you cough!"

"minghao, that's mean!"

"it's mean for you to lie to me and tell me you're okay! i really worried about you!"

and it went back and forth until you physically couldn't manage, and you hide your head in your hands

"baby, sorry, i didn't mean those things, i'm just upset. i just wish i could take away your pain and deal with being sick for you," he says

"don't worry, i'm just... my head hurts..."

when he gets home, he tells you to wait, and opens your door to help you out of the car

he sets you down in your bed and tells you to wait as he goes and gets some stuff

he comes back with a big bag of lots of stuff ranging from hand sanitizer, tylenol pm, allergy meds, tissues, and all of that stuff

"when did you get all of this?"

"i didn't go to work at all today. i got all of it after i left this morning"

"hao, you really didn't have to..."

"but i want to take care of you, and there's nothing you will say that'll stop me. so don't even bother trying to tell me not to do this stuff. you're my baby and my poor baby is sick :((("

"you're so extra"

"because i love you. i'll pick out some clothes and have you change into them as i get all your meds and everything"

and he takes care of you for the rest of the night, letting you lay down on your side so you're turned to look at him

he brushes his fingers through your hair and smiles at you

"get better soon, okay, honey?" he baby talks you, pinching your cheek,"so i can kiss you as much as i want again."

"mmm, okay"

"i love you so much, silly. don't try hiding this from me again."

The way qiu qingzhi/qiu shenji sees through lb instantly regardless of medium and yet still misses the most important part.

#the whole bit in the cdrama where they're discussing how well they know each other and qqz says he knows lb better than lb realises #and he's not wrong! but qqz still doesn't understand him /enough/ to avert everything. meanwhile lb does know qqz better than qqz realises #bc even when saying they're not friends lb still /believes/ in him or at least knows enough of him to know which accusations are false. #they both understand the other more than the other realises whilst still holding back from each other. #meanwhile in the manhua/donghua lb tries to reach out and hits a wall w/ qsj bc qsj understands the politics of this more than lb does #despite lb losing his family and distrusting the empress his sense of justice still makes him too easily to manipulate. #the tensions btwn minister xu + qsj had been stoked but qsj refused to rise to it (even w/o knowing the extent of bg manipulation) #but lb was the piece in the right position to fast track the 'investigation' not realising it could only ever lead to a rigged execution #in both cases everyone is trapped by something bigger than themselves. can only work w/n the framework that will lead to their doom. #it's just that only qsj/qqz is fully aware of it. lb doesn't yet comprehend. he thinks he does. but until qqz/qsj takes the hit he doesn't. #and qsj/qqz miscalculating wrt lb. reading his 'show' for what it is. but still missing the most important detail. #qsj/qqz fumbling the personal side bc of the politics whilst lb barges into the politics w/o fully reading the waves he's creating... #anyway don't mind me. just intensely glad the tag isn't dead even if the overlap of cdrama and manhua/donghua watchers is tiny. #white cat legend #white cat legend spoilers #<- for my own tags again

ft. @viiktorious ( my absolute favorite take on viktor, in the sense that no one else could ever really compare. i think you write him so well when it would be so easy for him to be very oversimplified, and one of the most pleasant surprises of this year - at least so far - has been you bringing him back to the dash ! ), @hoggleswart ( i don't know how well documented my 'sarah shahi deserves to be used more in the rpc' movement is here in nox, but i have been leading that charge for so many years and i was already so invested in roshana before you ticked all my favorite boxes in a character. i love ocs connected to existing canons in ways other than siblings or children, and i'm always a sucker for someone achingly sad ! ), @hcldmybroom ( not unlike the above, i have been wanting ambika to become the next big thing for so long that i, again, was always predisposed to loving a character using her ! there is so much - so far - untapped potential for drama with minette that makes me gleeful, and i really, really enjoy what i have seen of them so far ! ), @chacswins ( this guy is always gonna hurt my heart, and i'm always gonna be way more into that than i should be</3 you and sam are neck to neck in my personal 'most anticipated returns' list, and i'm so happy to be able to play around with you in all the angsty ways i've grown to love playing around with you in over the years of friendship and development we've had ! i'm so fond of damien in a way i think doesn't get expressed enough, and so grateful that his existence has provided me with 1. a whole character, in luca and 2. so many new layers for other characters ! ), @tosteelisms ( cara macdonald, my beloved, i am so glad that someone has finally given you a chance to thrive when you have so deserved it for so long ! she's one of my most adored creations, here, and i am so glad that i was able to entrust her into such capable hands ! you came into nox swinging, and i have loved seeing her form ! ), @acritudos ( last, but not at all least. theo nott was talked about at such length for so long that it would have been so easy for him to lose momentum but. of course. that was never going to happen in your hands. he is everything i've always dreamed of and more in terms of all the various dynamics i always wanted - with pansy, with the slytherin gang as a whole, with astoria, with ginny. with everyone, really ! - and of course it would be you that would give me those goods. how on earth could i expect any differently ! as always, i feel very lucky to write with you and develop such complex connections with you, and i hope that never changes<3 ) !
