Are yyou team green or black? And why?

team green, though I'm not in support of every green character (namely Otto though my opinion of him is complicated. I also have opinions on Aegon and his characterization that makes it even more complicated)

[I have only read bits and pieces of the book, so my opinion is based almost solely on the show. keep this in mind]

I'm team green for 3 big reasons. they're more complex, thought not perfect by any means, more morally "right", and are simply more my vibe when it comes to characters. now this is very simplified and not at all nuanced, so stick with me for a minute.

Firstly, they're more complex. the greens have very deep, detailed, and nuanced lives and stories that lead to them being very complex characters that can't be put into a box. Alicent was a child bride who had lost her mother young became a mother young and suffered at the hands of power and men all her life. her children were affected by this and the world they were forced to grow up in throughout their lives. even individually her kids are drastically different; aegon the child who was forced into a life he did not want and suffered due to his father neglect and mother pain. Helaena who was never understood and grew up treated like an oddity. Aemond who was never seen to his full potential, always ignored or looked over, angry throughout his life. each of them has strengths and weaknesses, flaws and benefits, they're imperfect but never completely horrid. they're also never simplified (not entirely, even when the plot and writers seek to simplify them) to the point that they put on a moral pedestal or made straight evil (i'd even argue that the attempts of the writer to oversimplify them as evil and in the wrong makes them 10x more fascinating). I find TB characters tended to miss the mark on that, always put in the moral light, not even allowed a moment to reflect on their actions, lives, or positions in any nuanced or meaningful way, so they always just feel dull. they're also out on a moral highground that they can never be budged from, which makes them harder to like and honestly, really boring. they get away with everything instead of being emotionally and morally nuanced.

secondly, they're more morally "right". I will never say that any of the greens are perfect, they are far from it (with the exception of Helaena and her kids, who have done literally nothing to anyone, but I digress). what I will say, 9/10 times there is some level of reasoning that has some level of reasoning. Alicent always tries to do whats best for everyone, all throughout the series she tried to do best by the court, the king, her children, the realm, and Rhaenyra. did she always succeed? no, but she always tried and her mistakes were almost always honest. I will say she held resentment towards Rhaenya, but honestly, I can't blame her. Rhaenyra's lies and behavior hurt Alicent over and over again so for her to be angry is expected.when it came to succession, Alicent backed Rhaenyra until it was made clear she and Daemon would be a threat to her children's lives and even than she held mercy for Rhaenyra. Aegon's drinking can be blamed on the abuse and neglect he suffered at Viserys, Otto, and Alicent's (though the abuse and neglect from his mother is insanely different and nuanced. she perpetuated her pain onto him because she couldn't heal herself. so I hesitate to call it abuse, cause its so much more complicated than that) hands. though nothing will justify his rape of Dyana, I personally think it was a bad add in on the writers part, and leave it at that. Aemonds rage after years of being ignored doesn't entirely justify what he did to luke, but he had reason for his cruelty after years of Luke (and jace tbh) being cruel just because they could. TB characters tend to do terrible things in response to either A. nothing B. their own terrible things. Daemon kills who he wants when he feels like it, even for stating facts. Rhaneyra will lie and hurt those around her to protect her bastard children. both of them conspire to protect themselves and allow themselves to be wed, really just cause. while there are times they have their reasons, its a lot less of the time, and typically the backing to their actions, is they were trying to unbury themselves from within their own graves. (to preface, I don't care about rhaenyra sleeping around, it doesn't bother me, but its the fact that she will hurt everyone around her to protect her lies, allowing a child to be maimed and people to be murdered)

thirdly, they're my vibe. I like morally complex character, who are, to be frank, pathetic. I like characters with complex trauma's and issues, who aren't perfect people but its not entirely their fault. I would much rather watch a whole show about alicent, a child bride who tries so hard to be a good wife, queen, and mother while not prepared for any such role. Aegon who is a boy with severe mommy and daddy issues, a drinking problem, a flawed past, and constantly wet eyes. Helaena an ignored girl who has suffered for no better reason then her family. and Aemond, a boy who was tormented, bullied, maimed, and made stronger by it at the cost of his compassion and emotional stability - over a nepo baby who was coddled by her father, her murderous husband with a knack for unneeded violence, and her similarly coddled children (the show boiled them down to this, in my opinion). one is simply more up my alley than the other. I want character that need to be dissected, who have suffered, who hurt me to look at.

also, team black created almost all of their own problems. seeing as the main source of contention had to do with Rhaenyra's kids being bastards, which was Rhaenyra's problem, which she caused, and kept digging and digging that grave (faking Laenors death just so she could marry daemon, turning the blame on aemond when luke maimed him furthering the divide amongst the house, trying to wed Helaena to Jace putting her in danger, trying to take the driftmark throne and killing Vaemond for a claim her sons did not have, etc,) till viserys's death, earns her a lot less pity from me. at the end of the day, her being a woman was only a needle in a haystack worth of problems she caused herself that hurt her claim. if she had just strived to create to connection with ancient and her kids, and didn't make herself look like a threat to everyone who lessened her claim (which alicents kids would be the first people to be taken out) alicent would have backed like she had all season and there would have been no war, maybe conflict, but no war.

theres also the effect of the fans on my opinion. I have faced more cruelty, terrible media analysis, and outright ableism/misogny/(blood and sexual based) purist ideology/etc. from the TB fans then I have ever witness by TG fans. TB fans have ruined almost all of the TB characters for me in more ways than I can count, so I will say I am very biased.

thats why I'm team green. as a whole they are simply more appealing, their stories are more interesting, demand more attention to detail and emotional understanding, and from my point of view were the "right" side to be on in the war (the war was wrong on both sides, but my chips lie in the favour of the greens).

I'm starting to get a headache every time I see spyxfamily mentioned online (particularly on Instagram) because of the amount of people I've seen on the internet comparing buddy daddies to spyxfamily or shitting on buddy daddies because they like spyxfamily better, or saying buddy daddies is a poor copy of spyxfamily or shitting on Miri cause they like Anya better, whatever the fuck it is - I'm starting to get a pavlovian reaction y'all. I haven't even watched spyxfamily - and I'm sure it's a wonderful show - but I'm starting to get a kneejerk reaction of pure annoyance everytime I see it mentioned because I'm expecting more hate. I never even go on spyxfamily posts, i'm just trying to have fun and watch videos and edits of my fun little assassin family. Why do you need to compare them?? Both shows are awesome and they have different vibes. Miri and Anya are their own characters, not copies of each other. And if you like spyxfamily better, that's so valid, but keep that to the proper fandom spaces. Complain about buddy daddies all you want, just not in the comments section of buddy daddies videos. It's like basic fandom etiquette.

Adrienette stans wanna gaslight Ladynoir stans who don’t like this plot point and act like Ladynoir was always meant to be platonic from the start and Adrienette was obviously always meant to be the side that would start dating .... No.

My dudes there is a reason Ladynoir has always been more popular than Adrienette among the online fandom. There is a reason the bulk of the fancontent when the show first came out focused on romantic Ladynoir. Hell there is a reason Zag chose for their expensive piece of ship merch to be a $300+ Ladynoir statue. They’re even using romantic Ladynoir scenes to advertise their movie now. Stormy Weather, the pilot episode, the episode meant to introduce us to and sell the show to us and networks, was 99% Ladynoir. Every “Valentine’s” episode (Dark Cupid/Glaciator) has been heavily Ladynoir-centric. Chat Blanc, despite starting with Ladrien followed by an Adrienette dating montage, was heavily Ladynoir centric. “Our love did this to the world" came through Ladynoir. We were shown Ladybug getting upset any time Chat Noir seemed to show interest in another girl. We were given “maybe if Adrien didn’t exist, I’d feel differently about Chat Noir...” in s1. We were given Ladybug explicitly dodging Chat Noir’s question of if things would be different between them if her “other boy” wasn’t a factor. We were given “maybe if I show Ladybug my true self, she’ll fall in love with me,” followed by that very thing happening. We were given a second coup de foudre in Strike Back. The first kiss in this show happened through Ladynoir. The first kiss they were both conscious of happened through Ladynoir in Jubilation. We were shown Ladybug blushing after Chat Noir kissed her cheek in Glaciator. We were shown Ladybug progressively learning that Chat Noir is more sensitive than she thought and not the kind of guy she thought he was and growing closer to and more fond of him over the course of the series -- the plot of like every good romance worth reading (Pride and Prejudice anyone??).

Everyone picked up on the romantic vibes and the depth of their relationship over the past 7 years and now y’all wanna pretend we were hallucinating all along just because your fav side is canon and y’all don’t want to acknowledge the fact that cutting out Ladybug’s feelings for Chat Noir after 4 seasons of development and literally /3 episodes/ of actual visible feelings is an insane choice because it gets in the way of said side being canon. We all picked up on the fact that Chat Blanc and Ephemeral both told us explicitly that Adrienette can’t safely be together as civilians because Gabriel can and will use it to his advantage even without knowing their identities and now y’all want to pretend we’re the ones who weren’t paying attention when even the show was telling us that Adrienette is the side that can’t happen. Apparently the payoff of the 7-year-buildup of Ladybug realizing her romantic feelings for Chat Noir was ... three whole episodes. Followed by her ditching him entirely. Y’all are okay with completely ignoring the insane choice of having Marinette and Adrien not at all worried about abandoning their partners and spitting on “I’ll never abandon you” and every time they’ve ever said “you and me against the entire world” because all you see is weee cute Adrienette scenes <3333.

Like I said I and many others did not watch this show for a generic school romance we watched this show for a Love Square with identity shenanigans because that’s what was being sold to us yet apparently it was never about the "falling in love twice” and the parallels between the two relationships and two loves even though that’s what the past 4 seasons told us it was because it was actually just “adrienette with some obstacles” all along and oBvIoUsLy it was always just meant to be about romantic Adrienette!!!1!!1 I did not watch 7 years worth of romantic development on the Ladynoir side just for Adrienette stans to decide to tell me that I was actually hallucinating that whole time and that Ladynoir was always meant to be platonic

Hi! Just curious what you see as Buffy's flaws? We all know her strengths---caring, brave, strong, witty and so much else, but what do you see as her consistent shortcomings? Maybe that she sometimes isn't honest with herself or others because she cares too much people think??

what an interesting question! i'm not sure if this is a reaction to something i've written before or just a one-off question to me but let's see....

i think that obviously everyone has flaws. no human or otherwise is perfect, even buffy haha. but you are definitely right in pointing out her "caring too much what people think'' as a potential flaw -- but moreso i think her major flaw in that vein is her inexplicable ability to completely let her *moral compass* to be overrode by those around her.

her major accomplishment as a slayer (specifically in the eyes of the audience) is her divorce from the council. she recognizes the misogyny and general fuck-uppedness of them and their systems,, and she rebels. i mean the conclusion of the show is her dismantling this oppressive system the shadow men enacted.

yet she lets her boyfriends, friends, and society overall ... almost, like... force her hand in decisions and opinions that she probably wouldn't hold if she really stopped to think about them... like all the *slut shaming stuff. i get it. this show is from the late 90s to early 00s (created by a bigoted prick) but i mean come on... it feels at least to me like this disgust with female sexuality is a key part of buffy's core personality.

which, given her history with angel makes sense.. but it's also totally antithetical to her other key traits -- like loyalty, romanticism, and female strength.

however i think that particular aspect of her "controllability" is an especially sore spot for me so it stands out more than it might to a casual (or even a dedicated) viewer.

buffy is such a conflicting character for me actually because she is this great role model of female power, but also key parts of her consistent character arc feel very opposed to this. such as her inability to address or recognize the abuse her associating with ang*l inflicted on her. JUST, she doesn't even recognize that whether she loved/loves him or not that it was fucked up -- and not in a ''i slept with him and he lost his soul'' kind of way.

the fact that she just,,, accepts the blame of that situation (even once she's matured and aged out of the trauma of knowing him and being actively in love)... her never questioning him or calling him out simply because they're star crossed lovers will forever and always rub me the wrong way.

this feels like a loaded question, trying to get me to say something controversial, so that i am open to hate... but uhh sorry this is a fictional person and this is how i feel about her.

all this to say that... i think she doesn't have follow-through on some really important human morality keystones, and it can be extremely disappointing to watch at times.

but also this is all bullshit and idk what i'm saying,,, literally just my opinion at this very minute

*i consider her running after riley somewhat in the same realm as the concept of "slut shaming"... if you get it you get it

#there's something else i want to talk about re: old(ish) internet #that i kind of didnt realise had happened #I'll soft launch it here but i might make a full post of it yet #at work i like to watch edutainment vids in my breaks #because they tend to be 15~ mins long and also have subtitles #so I've watched all like to/m scott. map men. #and i started watching old vsauce Micheal here videos #and they don't really seem like 10 year old videos. like the style of them really holds up #EXCEPT probably 5 times a video he'll show us a 'really awesome website' or whatever #like. so many websites with really useful tools. or just showing information. or that are just kind of fun and interesting #like. websites built to do specific things and that share information in unique ways #and like. i remember so many websites like that. even some games that played with the concept #of what a website even is. what are the limits. projects that were not only interesting in themselves #but the way they were presented was slick and fascinating and interactive #do y'all. do you remember that? #there was so much of that 10+ years ago #where did they go. do they still exist? are they still made. are the old ones even still up or did costs get too high #and traffic too low #because i also don't remember them having ads. or maybe they did but just banner ads that went unnoticed #woes of emily

#I really tried I watched this show once all the way through and even tried to give it a second chance. #The pilot is great but it's all down hill from there. #Y'all are insane saying it has good pacing. Every twist was either not set up at all or set up ad-nauseum. #L's “genius” mindbattle with Kira is just script-omniscience. #I get what they were trying to do/say but none of the characters act like real people would in this situation. #It wants to be about characters perpetuating acts of evil in the name of the greater good but there is 0 progression #I don't live in Japan but would a police state really spend this much energy hunting down a vigilante who is mostly going after petty crimi #Light doesn't even agonize the first time he kills an innocent person to cover his tracks not even an interesting “psychopath” #Misa is a stupid bitch. Light is about as morally gray as a newspaper. Ryuk is the only likeable one. #It's like if they took the tedium of the Walt/Hank cat-n-mouse game and made that the ONLY THING going on in the plot. #Not to mention the fandom is obnoxious.
