how to make a self care box!
with me, your local anxiety- and gender dysphoria-ridden boy
hello my friends. I have recently been having a Not Fun Time™️. I came to the realization that not everyone has a self care box.
everyone needs a self care box. what is that, you ask? it’s just a lil box friend that can help you out whenever you’re feeling down. mine has helped me through anxiety/panic attacks, gender dysphoria, depressive episodes, and other Not Fun Times™️. let’s get into it!
step 1. find yourself a box. any old box will do, mine is a shoe box.
step 2. decorate it! here’s mine:

you could do whatever you like to decorate it! paint, crayons, washi tape, hot glue on a stuffed animal, whatever!
step 3: figure out what to put in your box. I’ve compiled lists of ideas of what to put in your box for each reason you might want a box.
for gender dysphoria
-a shirt or outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks
-pronoun pins
-transmasc ppl, things like a binder or a tie
-for transfem ppl, things like a hair clip or a bracelet
for anxiety
-a worry stone
-fidget toys (spinners, cubes, whatever)
-colored pencils and a kids coloring book (trust me, it makes you feel so much better)
-little games like tamagotchis or etch-a-sketch
-stress balls
-water wigglers (look it up, they’re great)
-putty or playdoh
-rubber bands to stretch
-a hole puncher and paper (this is great if you get super restless when you have a panic attack like me, punching holes in paper is nice)
for depression
-a soft blanket or sheet
-stuffed animals
-herbal tea
-list of things you love about yourself
-printed out pictures of close friends, family, and pets
-friendship bracelets you made or your friend made for you
-little snacks like Reese’s or gum (careful that you don’t get ants tho)
-more rubber bands (if you feel the need to self harm, you can snap them on your wrist)
-colorful tape and stickers to put on evERYTHING
step 4: put it all in your box
step 5: wait till ya need it, then bust out your lil box! it’s super duper helpful for me, and I hope it’s helpful to whoever reads this!
