Q: What was the last signed book you ordered or had signed in person?. 💎 On Friday, February 17, I went to Books of Wonder for the Revelle by Lyssa Mia Smith launch event! She was in conversation with Lauren Blackwood, Rochelle Hassan, and Meg Long. This event was so good, I loved the conversation and learning more about Revelle. ✨ Since the book is set in the 1920s, of course I had to dress the part for this event too! Any excuse to wear my flapper dress, and I received a lot of compliments on it. It was a fun event and I'm really glad I was able to go. 💃 If you haven't noticed yet, I'm a big fan of Moulin Rouge - Revelle is Moulin Rouge inspired but with MAGIC, lots of magic! And lots of family love for Luxe Revelle - I loved the relationship Luxe has throughout the story with her cousins - it was so heartwarming. There are a few different magical families on Charmant, the island just a ferry ride from New York - and some of the powers include being able to charm and make the customers desires (seemingly) come true, time-travel, healing, mind-reading, and making food or drink the best you've ever had. But of course, all this magic comes with a cost to the user. I'm thrilled today to be on the @jaimerockstarbooktours blog + bookstagram tour for THE MAN OR THE MONSTER by @aamna_qureshi, from @camcat_books! This is the follow-up to THE LADY OR THE LION, which I featured a few days ago in my feed. There's a our-wide giveaway you can enter at Book-Keeping blog (link in bio)! This review will be short and sweet so as not to spoil *anything* from this incredible series. I was able to binge these back-to-back, and I loved both THE LADY OR THE LION and THE MAN OR THE MONSTER! In the first book we met Durkhanai and her royal family and watched her fall in love -- only to be forced to send her lover through “the trial,” in which he must pick from one of two doors, behind which waits either a lady he will then marry (which means he’s innocent) or a lion (which means he’s guilty). This book is based on the short story “The Lady, or the Tiger?” and is set in a Pakistan-inspired world that was amazing to visit. At the end of the first book, Durkhanai has sent her lover off to be either married to another woman or killed by a lion, in either situation meaning she loses him forever. In THE MAN OR THE MONSTER, Durhkanai must come to terms with her decision and the impacts it has on her and those around her. It was amazing to watch Durkhanai come into her own, realize who she is as a person, and determine whether she will continue things as they have always been or if she can be and do better for her people than her grandparents and rulers before them. I absolutely love this duology (I believe it’s just a duology) and would recommend it to anyone who loves retellings and YA fantasy in general! So I have a Werewolf The Apocalypse character that I have been playing long term in a homebrew game.

Syd'ney Sloane, Glasswalker, Homid, Theurge. And her biggest quirk is that she has Spirit Heritage: Memes. Not a lot, it doesn't show when she's in the Umbra in any huge way.

But what it has done is, given her an odd encyclopedic knowledge of most Memes. Allowed her to use Memes in her packs mind link as a form of communication. Pretty simple.

But as I realized today. As the ability and knowledge has spread to her packmates. That she caused it to essentially go 'viral' among her small group. And I just love that little detail.

I have to admit that this was an immediate cover buy, and because of the massive hype surrounding the novel. The end pages of this gorgeous book were my favourite part of the cover, and I’m pleased to be adding this into my hardcover collection! The creepy atmosphere and the gothic vibe of this novel was everything! I absolutely adored that house where the majority of the story took place, and I enjoyed that the author took some time to explore the setting, and not just the people. Moving onto the story though, I have to admit that I wasn’t the most interested in the overarching mystery that the novel was based on, and I had a hard time connecting with the majority of the characters. That being said, I really liked the premise that Signa and Death had a connection, right from when she was little, that steadily grew throughout the novel. I like how the author wasn’t shy about exploring the romantic and sexual relationship of the connection later on either, and I think it added a necessary layer of depth into the story. We have days that are just cooler and some days cold. It’s also hit and miss. 😂 I really enjoyed this story. I’ve only read the first book but I won the Trylle Trilogy through GoodReads years ago and I really enjoyed it too and she ended up with someone else and I was okay with it. Q: What's your favorite era of historical fiction?. 💎 Happy Book Birthday to Revelle by @lsmittywrites!. Charmant is only a ferry ride away. Give a Revelle a jewel for a chance to feel ecstasy. Revelle had me at "Moulin Rouge inspired" - say less! So of course I had to bring this book with me the last time I visited the Moulin Rouge on Broadway - and of course dress the part! I absolutely love historical fiction, especially set in the 1920s Prohibition era, throw in some magic and mystery and fantasy and I'm SOLD. If you're a fan of historical fiction, dual POV, YA fantasy, forbidden love, family bonds and of course - Moulin Rouge - this is the story for you! So happy Revelle is out in the world today in all formats including my favorite, audiobook~. Fun fact, I've seen Moulin Rouge on stage 15 times since October 2019, including New York, London, and Chicago on the tour - but I just watched the movie for the first time this past December!. Another fun fact, I first met Lyssa in an elevator at YallFest in 2021 before her book officially had a title and kept running into her during Yallfest!. P.S. Hello.
