Tokyo ordinance. A sign in the #Yanaka #Cemetery. Brutality to animals is illegal. If caught killing, may be imprisoned to 5 years or be fined. If caught brutally wounding, may be imprisoned to 1 year or fined. (谷中霊園) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdIWuiLPDB4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hi there! Hope you’re well and not melting away in the humidity. I am super excited to be planning a trip to Japan again after almost four years away. Considering I lived 1) in Kansai-ish territory and 2) near Nagoya, I never got much chance to explore Tokyo outside of the usual tourist places. I already have Jinbocho on my list (along with one of the Aoyama flower market tea houses and Nakano Broadway)— do you have any suggestions for what’s fun in Tokyo for someone who is a little more experienced with the area?
Welcome back!
Now here's a challenge! I don’t know whether you're looking for new & trendy, or old & traditional, and a lot depends on the season, but…
1) Stroll from Ueno Park or Nezu to Yanaka and Sendagi. See if you can find Snake Street and follow its curves. Yanaka is as Kyoto as Tokyo gets. Yanaka and Kagurazaka.
2) Shibamata for more old Edo vibes. Cross the river on the ferry. Only ferry in Tokyo.
3) Sunamachi Ginza Shopping District in Koto-ku: another old area that's being transformed by gentrification.
4) Get lost in Shibuya Station, just for fun, but take tranquilizers with you. Walk from Shibuya via Shoto to Yoyogi Park. Shoto is one of the wealthiest areas in Tokyo, but it's not as famous as, say, Azabu-Juban or Denenchofu. Stop at Levain for bread and Fuglen for coffee.
5) Explore the swanky, hipsterish areas of Kichijōji, Shimokitazawa, Daikanyama. Take the Setagaya Tram Line from Sangenjaya to Gotokuji and visit the temple birthplace of the famous maneki-neko. Lots of tiny shops and quaint shopping streets in a relatively upmarket area along the way.
6) Okutama. Walk along the Mitake Valley Riverside Trail, from Ikusabata to Sawai, stop for sake at the Sawanoi Sake Brewery, visit the Gyokudo Museum. You can continue past Mitake to the Okutama Fishing Centre. If you are here in autumn, you'll see breathtaking autumn colours.
7) Yokohama! Not exactly Tokyo, but a nice day trip. Minato-Mirai, Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery (no, seriously, Google it), Sankeien Gardens.
I'm not a food expert, but there are really nice restaurants in all these areas. Add Yakitori Alley in Yurakucho to your list: great atmosphere. (There's a maze under the tracks between Yurakucho and Shimbashi. Well worth a visit, but it gets a bit dystopian.) Museums? Fukagawa Edo Museum in Kiyosumi, all the art museums in Ueno Park. Plants 'n stuff? Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome. Shinjuku Gyoen remains my favourite Tokyo park/garden.
It's very touristy, but so iconic that it's really worth it: New York Bar and Grill in the Park Hyatt Tokyo. Expensive though. Cocktail Works is a craft gin bar in Kanda (close to Jimbocho), and a very good alternative (but without the glorious view) (which is the whole point) (actually).
Oh, by the way, Piss Alley in Shinjuku? So yesterday. Try Sankaku Chitai in Sangenjaya or Nogecho in Yokohama instead. Shh, don't tell anyone.
Best free and still relatively uncrowded view of skyline: Bunkyo Civic Center observation lounge. Shh again.
Would this suffice? If you send more details about your timing and what you're interested in, I'll happily add more.
Enjoy the planning as much as the trip! 😊

For Halloween or Day of the Dead, a macabre take on a nameplate: a gravestone! This is from Yanaka Cemetery in Eastern Tokyo, and it says 齋藤家之墓.
The family name here is 斎藤, read Saitō. You probably recognize 家, meaning house or family. 之 is an archaic way of writing の, the possessive particle. 墓 means tomb. So __家之墓 is a common tombstone inscription: the __ Family's Tomb.
齋 comes up mostly in names and usually read サイ. Its other readings are つつし.む, とき, and ものいみ (but I have never needed to know that). It can refer to Buddhist food, religious purification, or worship, and can apparently also mean room, avoid, or alike. Hmm.
藤 is super common in names and I'm sure you recognize it. It means wisteria, and it’s read ふじ, トウ, or ドウ.
之 is used mostly in names these days. In the past, it was a possessive particle (e.g. apostrophe+s) or "of," as it's used here. It could also mean "this." Its readings are の, これ, ゆく, この, or シ.
家 means house or family. It can also refer to a specialty, expertise, or career. In this context, a suffix for a family, it's read ケ. Other readings are いえ, や, うち, or カ.
墓 means tomb or grave. It can be read はか or ボ. It shares its on-yomi and some radicals with 暮, meaning evening or twilight, which I've always found poetic.

Persona 4 Swap AU Teddie Social Link  Arcana: Moon Arcana
Tumblr media
Hi! Everyone! It’s Arlo! To remind you all that I’ve decided to make a Persona 4 swap au in the inspiration of Scruffyturtles AU and other characters that I’ve had a lot of fun making! So this will be the Teddie Hanamura Social Link That will be the Yosuke of the AU so I hope you enjoy! Note! This story may cover some heavy topics such as Death and Grieving. If you are sensitive to these types of topics you have my absolute permission to skip or scroll by! Hope you enjoy!
*In the Yanaka Cemetery in Tokyo, Japan where Teddie and Rise were walking to. They’ve walked up to a tombstone and it reads
“A Soul That Will Rest In Peace”
Yosuke Hanamura
June 22, 1994
April 16. 2003
Loving Brother, Son
A Boy With A Heart Of Gold”
*Teddie Smiled for a bit reminiscing of his brother with treasurable memories that they’ve shared together*
(Teddie)
“When Yosuke Came around, He found me. I was all cold..hungry..with no adult to take care of me..I was four at the time and he was eight. Hehehe..I still remember those times to where my bro and I would walk around the lakes, go to movies and even have picnics..”
(Teddie)
“As Years go by we kept our bond stronger without stopping, We kept it all together as brothers.”
*Then his face falters to a frown that seemed to upset him. It seems he finally understood what it all meant*
(Teddie)
“When the other me spoke..I knew it was all true..after Yosuke died in the accident..I couldn’t do nothing but save myself since he sacrificed everything just to protect me..After his death the rest of the Hanamura Family blamed me..thinking that I was his killer..but the one who understood me was my dad..”
*His expression changed to a much calmer, peaceful even and shared a small smile to Rise. It seems he wanted to request her something that will meant to him*
(Teddie)
“If you don’t mind me asking..can you join me for a picnic pal?”
*Rise softly smiled at this offer and she said*
(Rise)
“Sure thing, I’ll do it for you as well pal.”
*Teddie smiled warmly back at his best friend*
(Teddie)
“Thanks..”
*As the two were enjoying their lunch. It seems the lovable son of a Olympic Surfer Kanji Tatsumi has stepped in the picture. Who knows what surprise might await the students. He greeted the two with a smile on his face*
(Kanji)
“Yo! How’s it goin lil dudes?”
*Teddie exclaimed in shock with pure astonishment by the sudden entry*
(Teddie)
“Kanji! What are you doing here?!”
(Kanji)
“There ya are Ted! Just thought I might wanna surprise ya somethin! now Rise and I planned this so we got one cool froggy dude that’ll come out and say hello!”
*He then tilted his head in confusion mixed in with his sheer curiosity*
(Teddie)
“Really..? I wonder who?”
*Kanji shouted from behind the tombstone with a confident grin on his face*
(Kanji)
“YO! YOSUKE! YOU CAN COME OUT NOW MAN!”
*To the blonde hair boy’s surprise it was his frog brother Jiraiya who came to known as his older brother Yosuke Hanamura. He’s still the same lovable goofball at heart but deep down he showed love and care for his little brother. He was wearing a red flannel with an undershirt underneath it, jean shorts that made his legs comfortable and red tennis shoes to cover up his frog toes. He opened up his arms greeted Teddie with the same warm soft smile*
(Jiraiya (Yosuke))
“Hey Little Bro..Hehe, I’m still here and kickin.”
*Teddie was in disbelief, he couldn’t believe his eyes..It was him..tears were running down his cheeks as the two begin to hug eachother out. The blonde hair boy sobbed uncontrollably in his embrace wanting to feel the same comfort*
(Jiraiya (Yosuke))
“Hehe..look at ya. Still the same big softie as ya always were. Here I thought I was the goofball?”
*He jokingly chuckled trying to lightened the mood Teddie chuckled back trying to hold back his tears*
(Teddie)
“Idiot...! hehe..who am I kidding...? I’m just happy to see you again...that’s all that I cared about...”
*As the brothers hugged again the surfer with a heart of gold hugged the two of them picking them up with his strength confidently smiling*
(Kanji)
“Come on! Ya gotta make room for three lil dudes! Rise! you’re joinin in too!”
*He then grabbed a hold of Rise holding trio close in his arms*
*Then everything begins to calm down after they’ve walked out of the cemetery, Teddie wanted to give something to Rise as a memento*
(Teddie)
“Hey! Can I borrow for a sec?”
(Rise)
“Hm?”
(Teddie)
“I want you to have this..”
*He handed her a photo of Kid Yosuke and Kid Teddie together called “A Brotherly Photo”*
(Teddie)
“Whenever you want to treasure something precious to you, be sure to look at it. alright?”
*Then something inside him just changed, Ninigi-no-Mikoto transformed into the persona Tsukiyomi*
*The card fused within his heart. He opened his eyes and said*
(Teddie)
“So this is my power huh..?”
*He then felt determined as ever, much more enegetic*
(Teddie)
“Alright! No more holding back! I’m gonna give it everything I’ve got! Let’s do our best pal! you and me!”
*Rise decided to head back home after taking the train to Inaba*
That’s all I have and this is my first one of the story let me know which one you want me to do next and I’ll do it!

Wednesday January 18/2023
Today, we walked through Ueno Park and along residential streets to the cemetery district of Yanaka. A dozen temples hold tight and compact concentrations of ancestral gravesites. Very photogenic. The main cemetery is several square kilometres and easy to get lost in.
On the return leg, we spent several hours in five different buildings at the Tokyo National Museum. They had special collections in Asian art, Japanese archeology, and national treasures. We saw beautiful kimonos, samurai armour, and kentana swords.
One exhibit on the modern contributions of Japan to the world had everything from kikkoman soy sauce to Godzilla, but no Hello Kitty.
On the way back to hotel, we stopped at a kitchen supply store to buy a bamboo tea whisk that the Japanese use at their tea ceremony. I also bought a cute ceramic jar for soy sauce.
