Jean, Yanfei, Keqing, and Shinobu with a Majima-esque S/O

Part 2 of this post

Jean was honestly expecting her S/O to be nothing but trouble for the citizens of Mondstadt.

A former criminal from Inazuma coming to Mondstadt to start a construction company? What kind of weak cover story was that?

Though much to her surprise, it was actually legit, no illegal connections or anything. It was normal.

Though S/O was anything but normal.

They acted borderline psychotic, not to mention their horrific sense of clothing.

The way they fought was like a mad dog, wielding a knife and leaping from person to person at blinding speeds.

And yet, she somehow fell in love with a person like that.

Jean had come to personally warn them several times of their actions when Knights were supposed to take care of a commotion.

(S/O) "Eh? AH, JEAN-CHAN!"

She raised an eyebrow. Was that some kind of Inazuman-honorific?

Regardless, Jean sighed and continued on.

(Jean) "This was supposed to be handled by the Knights, S/O."

(S/O) "Oh come on, this shady person was gonna attack this poor lady! Can't tell me I can't be a gentleman, Jean-chan!"

(Jean) "You will refer to me as Master Jean, and nothing else. I won't be as forgiving next time."

Shrugging, S/O walked away.

The next time they spoke, was late at night as they sat in the benches, looking at the sky.

Jean walked over to them, this time without anyone accompanying her.

(S/O) "...Oh, Jean. 'Sup?"

Jean blinked in surprise, they didn't scream her name at the top of their lungs. They even dropped the 'chan' part.

(Jean) "You're...very calm."

(S/O) "Yeah? I'm just thinking. What do you want with me?"

(Jean) "I just wanted to say thank you for protecting Barbara."

(S/O) "The Deacon? 'Course I would, when a freak like that is stalking her, someone oughtta do something."

S/O had scared off, permanently, Barbara's biggest 'fan', though they dropped any pretense of being "mad" or any amusing antics.

It was the most serious anyone in the city had ever seen them, and no one who did would like a repeat of it.

Including Jean and Barbara themselves.

(S/O) "...You referred to her pretty casually though. You two close?"

Jean sat down with S/O and nodded.

(Jean) "Very...If I may ask, what got you that riled up to the point you dropped the act?"

(S/O) "..."

(Makoto) "Miss Kamisato, thank you so much for helping us again."

(Ayaka) "Please, just call me Ayaka."

(S/O) "Eh? Why the hell do I gotta keep calling you Miss Kamisato for?"

(S/O) "...Just don't like it when people pick on those who can't defend themselves."

(Jean) "I think I have misjudged you, S/O."

(S/O) "Hm...Think I did too with ya, Jean. Tell ya what, if you're off next time we can grab a drink. On me."

(Jean) "I look forward to it."

The next time they did meet, S/O popped out of a bush, scaring the absolute hell out of her and a few Knights.

(S/O) "JEAN-CHAN! Let's spar!"

(Jean) "W-Wha, right now?!"

As time went on, though they had their mad persona they showed everyone, Jean saw S/O's serious side come out whenever the two had a drink together.

From their stories about Makoto's death, and Miss Kamisato's kindness, she wanted to know more about the person who suffered so much for other's sake.

And if anything, to see if she can give them the happy ending they deserved.

Honestly, Yanfei had to wrangle S/O in a good majority of the time.

She was already viewed as a bit of an oddball, but S/O's eccentric personality only made things worse.

They acted insane, like they were ready to go off the leash at any second, not to mention being from Inazuma and most likely a criminal themselves.

Yet, that's not what scares Yanfei about her S/O.

it's the fact she knows how serious they are.

She once saw S/O singlehandedly shut down a corrupt market stall through words alone. The knife they always carried wasn't brandished once.

Yanfei always lectures them on how they shouldn't interfere with the laws of Liyue. Though they act like they don't care, the fact they recited one of the passages word for word told her otherwise.

As crazy as they seemed to be, they were really trying to help bring any justice and assistance to her as they could.

Though anytime Yanfei mentions reading her law books, S/O immediately dives into the harbor.

Well...they're trying?

But at some point, she does want to ask about their past, as they were serious when confessing at least.

But Yanfei definitely couldn't complain that things were boring with S/O around.

Keqing thought Ningguang was mad bringing in a former criminal to the Liyue Qixing.

Especially with a loose cannon like S/O.

They didn't care anything about basic etiquette, which was even stranger considering they were Ningguang's personal guard.

They intimidated any unruly client, especially the Fatui and Treasure Hoarders.

In fact, it has to be expressed specifically by Ningguang that they do not go "exterminate" any of the Treasure Hoarders, and the job should be left to the Millelith.

Though S/O's explosive personality became well known to all of Liyue Harbor, getting the title "The Mad Dog of the Qixing."

The way they act enrages her, especially when they refer to her as "Keqing-chan".

Their singing tone of voice irritates her, especially their disregard to everyone's authority.

Especially her's.

(Keqing) "You can't just waltz in like that!"

(S/O) "Eh? Oh, sorry boss. Won't happen again."

But in some weird way...she begrudgingly respects them.

They carved their own path and know exactly how to live their life, something she hasn't entirely done.

And what surprised her most of all, is how she's seen them with their guard down.

Keqing walked into their room with half a mind to lecture them until she saw how much sadness was in their eyes.

They were staring at a small watch, it seemed like they hadn't even realized she came in.

(Keqing) "...S/O?"

(S/O) "Oh, hey, Keqing."

(Keqing) "Is that your watch?"

(S/O) "...Yeah, a gift from a friend."

(Keqing) "It's a beautiful watch."

(S/O) "Really? I think it's a little plain. But then again..."

(Makoto) "I don't think it's plain at all!"

(Ayaka) "Yes, it looks perfect to me."

(Majima) "Come on, it's supposed to be a portable clock, why you making such a big deal out of it?"

(Makoto) "Cause it's a gift from you! Of course I'm gonna make a big deal out of it."

(Ayaka) "See, I told you! You shouldn't have worried so much."

(S/O) "..."

Keqing tried to lighten the mood.

(Keqing) "Your friend has good yet strange taste if they were hanging around you."

(S/O) "Yeah...Strange taste indeed."

("Haruka") "Oh, I have to go. Goodbye Ayaka, and S/O!"

Noting how their expression darkened, Keqing cleared her throat.

(Keqing) "My apologies, I didn't mean-"

(S/O) "Eh, don't worry about it. I've been a crazy bastard the entire time anyways. Makes sense you'd take a jab."

Chuckling, and putting the watch away, they waved their hand dismissively.

(S/O) "Boss wants me there at the meeting, yeah? Be right there."

Still seeing the sadness in their eyes as they left the door, Keqing stood in utter disbelief.

Just what had they gone through before arriving in Liyue?

...She supposed she could at least give them a chance after seeing a whole new side of them.

Besides, it looked like they could use a friend.

It then got to the point where they began spending much more time together, to where she got to know who the watch was meant for.

And her heart bled for them.

They didn't have to go their life alone, not if she could help it.

Shinobu got very acquainted with S/O after they picked sparring fights with Itto on a regular basis.

The Mad Dog of Inazuma was someone everyone in the city was familiar with at this point.

But the Arataki gang had to deal with their madness because they were one of the only few to indulge them.

(S/O) "ITTO-CHAN!"

(Itto) "Oh, so you're back for more eh? LET'S GO, BRO!"

The noise complaints they had got spiraled out of control, since everytime the authorities would show up, S/O was nowhere to be seen.

Making her clean up the mess.

One day, Shinobu had enough of their antics.

Using Itto as bait, S/O predictably showed up.

Well, in the sense of being there. The way they began the fight was emerging from within a tree. She had no idea how they got in there, nor did she care at this point.

(Shinobu) "Everyone, STOP."

(Itto) "Y-YES MA'AM!"

The entire gang backed off, leaving S/O confused.

(S/O) "Eh? The heck's with ya?"

(Shinobu) "I am Kuki Shinobu, deputy leader of the Arataki gang. And you have been causing too much trouble for us."

(S/O) "That so? Well if ya don't get out the way, there's going to be more."

Their eye widened up as they drew a dagger.

Shinobu simply crossed her arms, and furrowed her brow.

S/O didn't need to see the mask off to tell she was pissed.

(Shinobu) "Try me."

The two had a standoff, waiting for one to make a move.

Until S/O laughed, sheathing their knife.

(S/O) "You got some balls, Shinobu-chan!"

(Shinobu) "Do not call me that."

(S/O) "I'll leave for today since ya asked, have a good one now."

Itto looked slightly disappointed about the lack of a rematch, but now Shinobu was curious. Just who was this Mad Dog?

She began a mini-investigation on her own, going around the city asking if they had any information on S/O.

It first led her to Sara, which they had a lengthy discussion of what happened from their point of view.

They were apparently a former criminal who got caught in some kind of gang war.

Though, that's all she knew.

Going from lead to lead made Shinobu more curious about S/O.

They sounded less of a Mad Dog and more of a good person in the wrong profession.

Despite that, they carried on their own way, regardless of what they were told to be by society, their colleagues, and the entire world.

Shinobu really respected that.

On the third day of her investigation, she heard a voice call out to her.

(Woman's voice) "Excuse me?"

Shinobu turned around and was shocked of who was talking to her.

(Shinobu) "L-Lady Kamisato?!"

(Ayaka) "You are Kuki Shinobu?"

Shinobu bowed respectfully, but still obviously flustered.

(Shinobu) "I am, my lady. Is there anything I can help with?"

(Ayaka) "Yes, actually. I am to understand you've been asking after S/O? May I ask why?"

(Shinobu) "Ah, if I am being honest, I am satiating my curiosity about them. They seem to have more going on than the Mad Dog we see in the streets."

Shinobu could tell Ayaka felt hurt, seeing S/O get called that title.

(Shinobu) "M-My apologies. I did not mean to offend-"

(Ayaka) "Please do not worry. You have not offended me. I am just making sure that nothing is amiss. You are not working with anyone?"

(Shinobu) "No, my lady. It is just me, and only me."

Ayaka nodded.

(Ayaka) "Very well, I believe you. Please, carry on."

With a polite bow, Ayaka walked off.

(Shinobu) "Why's someone as important as her asking about S/O...?"

S/O had their curiosity, but now they had Shinobu's full attention.

Eventually, she came across an older woman at a Takoyaki stand.

And S/O was standing in front of it.

(Woman) "Ah, welcome back! Two, I'm assuming?"

(S/O) "Two? What for?"

Their tone of voice caught her off guard. It was much deeper and seemed to be more genuine. Not as crazy or high strung as she always heard them before.

(Woman) "For the fine woman behind you?"

S/O turned and gave Shinobu a nod of acknowledgement.

(S/O) "Ah, sure."

(Shinobu) "Oh, I'm not hung-"

(S/O) "Come on, this one's on me."

(Woman) "Hah, always such a gentleman!"

(S/O) "Granny, not this again!"

(Woman) "Heheh, it's true!"

(Shinobu) "Again? Do you mind if I ask?"

S/O sighed, shrugging.

(S/O) "...Alright, sure. I came here one night with a lady, and we got Takoyaki together, and for a friend."

(Woman) "They paid for everything, and even helped Miss Kamisato-"

(S/O) "Come on, do you gotta tell everyone this story?!"

(Woman) "Oh hush now, I've made sure to speak this story to only reliable people, Miss Shinobu here included!"

(Shinobu) S/O and Miss Kamisato know each other? I suppose that makes sense.

S/O handed her a takoyaki and they both sat down on a bench.

(S/O) "Any reason you're asking after me in particular?"

(Shinobu) "Oh, you know?"

(S/O) "Got a tip from a friend is all. So?"

(Shinobu) "Curiosity, more than anything. First I wanted to know why you were picking a fight with the boss, and now...I just want to know you, if that's alright."

(S/O) "Hah, only if you tell me about you too. Itto talks highly of you all the time, you know?"

(Shinobu) "Oh please, the boss and the rest of the boys get in trouble all the time, I feel like they don't appreciate me at all despite what I tell them."

S/O looked into the sky and sighed.

(S/O) "...Trust me, they know, and they care. If you suddenly disappear one day, they'll all be feeling it for the rest of their days."

Shinobu turned to S/O and saw the sadness written on their face.

(S/O) "But that's for later. How 'bout we get to eating? Pretty sure it's cooled down."

(Shinobu) "Right."

S/O turned away from them, making Shinobu confused.

(S/O) "Oh, right. Doing this cause I assume you don't like people lookin' at ya without that mask. We all got something we don't wanna show, so I get it."

(Shinobu) "Like this calmer side of you?"

(S/O) "Heh, precisely."

(Shinobu) "Then...I suppose I'll start first...Where do I start?"

The two had a long conversation spanning into the night, and for many more nights to become.

Whenever Shinobu began studying, S/O would be right behind her, albeit hollering like a lunatic.

But at the same time, she got to know the real S/O.

The one who was best friends with Makoto Makimura, and Ayaka Kamisato, but also the one who lost both.

She wants to do everything she can to protect S/O's already damaged reputation, and make sure Ayaka doesn't come under fire either from S/O's antics.

But more importantly, she at least wanted to be there for S/O.

A person who had suffered so much at least had that much right.

...Even if they were a pain in the ass to deal with for the Arataki gang.

— that night, both of you fell asleep on the couch, but you didn't really care nor did you complain.

— Yanfei doesn't really tease you about your reaction that night, but sometimes she does mention it to see the blush that covers your face when you try to remember it. back then you were half asleep and you can't recall much, but honestly? you know very well you would react that way.

— after a while, you both decided to sit down in order to take a break. not that you two were tired, but the sun had started to set and you proposed to watch it together, something Hu Tao couldn't refuse.

— her voice full of enthusiasm was the only thing breaking the silence, since most people were already home eating dinner. you nodded and eventually said something from time to time, a smile on your lips as you heard your partner's voice talk about things such as the last poem she wrote.

— there wasn't really a reason to refuse, so you did just as she told you and made the distance between you two shorter. Hu Tao got closer to one of your ears as well, just like a little child who's about to whisper a secret to someone. you thought she was going to do that at first, until you felt one of Hu Tao's hand scratch the back of your ear. a surprised gasp escaped from your lips, slight blush quickly spreading through your cheeks. however, you didn't tell her to stop, nor did you attempt to get away from her. instead, you moved your head closer, giving her more space to pet you.

— "aw, look at you! so you do like it!" after that, stopping seemed so hard for Hu Tao. it was as soft as she had expected, if not more.

— you then realized that you weren't home, and that anyone passing by at that time could perfectly see you. even though there weren't many people on the streets at that time, it was... embarrassing at best.

— "Tao... let's go home" you managed to say. she raised an eyebrow.

— "already?"

— you sighed. "let's continue home. better?"

— after that day, Hu Tao's such a big tease, knowing that she can make you a flustered mess only by petting your ears. she can't help but giggle whenever you ask her for more.

You were bored so you decided to visit Yanfei at her office! Although you know that she is busy but you were way more important. You bothered her enough to make her stop working and resume later. You and her then went on a stroll around the city.

You were on the way to Yanfei's office cause you had nothing better to do. So why not bother your lovely girlfriend? It sounded like a good idea.. To you that is.. You were running to Yanfei's office as you had too much energy.

How did you get that much energy? Yanfei had introduced you to coffee. Which was a really bad idea especially since you were already too hyperactive.

You finally reached your destination. Instead of knocking before coming into her office, you instead kicked the door opened and yelled a greeting to Yanfei. Which got you in trouble as people usually knock before coming into her office. You saw Yanfei jump a little before sighing.

"Y/n.. What did I say about knocking.." She then gave you a deadpanned face. "Whoops, anyways I want to hang out with you right now!" You exclaimed with excitment.

"Sorry y/n. I am working right now, maybe later?" Upon hearing this you then began to beg her non-stop and giving her puppy dog eyes. She finally accepted in defeat and began hanging out with you.

You guys then went around the street strolling around different shops. Unfortunately you guys did not buy anything as nothing was of interest to either of you. You guys then went back to her office.

She thought today was strange as you didn't do much chaotic acts yet. Oh boy was she wrong..

You began climbing her wooden shelves and she was scared for you. "Y/n come down! That's really dangerous! It can fall on you any second." Yanfei's voice laced with a hint of worry.

"I'll be fi-iiiinneeeee-" You then lost your balance and fell. THUD! Not only that. The bookshelf began to collapse and was about to fall on you. Yanfei then quickly pulled you away just in time before the bookcase fell and broke.

That earned you a really bad scolding from Yanfei, but do know she is scolding you cause she cares for your safety!

Rosaria and you were in the tavern. You guys were getting drunk. Well mostly you. You guys were with Kaeya too. The only reason why rosaria joined your shenanigans was because wine was involve and that you were there too. But she would never admit that.

You and Rosaria were drinking a lot of bottles as you challenged her the first one to get drunk loses and you won. Since rosaria didn't want to get drunk and stay sober.

You were busy blabbering nonsense and climbing the walls in angels share and rosaria seemed really amused. As this was the first time she has seen you drunk.

You were already hyperactive and she wondered what you would do if you got drunk which was exactly what had happened.

You began climbing the walls in the tavern. Nobody cared about you doing that except one particular red haired man.. He was looking at you climb the taverns walls. You had a pretty good grip too, that was until somebody slammed the tavern door opened.

A blue haired dark tonned male with an eye patch entered the tavern. As soon he slammed the door opened you lost your balance and fell off the wall of the tavern.

THUD! He then turned his attention to you, who was now on the floor of the tavern. Kaeya then laughed uncontrollably before picking you up from the floor.

You then went to sit at the bar service. Diluc then grunted whilst he continued to polish the glass drink. "HeEyyYy, whAt'S a hic cUTiE liKE yoU doInG hErE? hic" he then proceeded to roll his eyes and resumed polishing another glass.

Kaeya then saw this was an opportunity to poke fun at diluc. "Hey how could you ignore a question like that-" diluc then stopped polishing to give a death glare to kaeya "We are closed. Leave."

Rosaria found all of this amusing, although once your back at home she would scold you for flirting with someone else.

You were getting a cake for Ningguang so that you could surprise her and hangout. So you did just that but things didn't go down as planned..

You were out skipping until you saw a cake shop which was selling really well decorated cakes. You decided to approach the shop and ask if you could use their kitchen to bake a surprise gift to someone.

The owner nodded her head in agreement and let you inside the bakery to make and decorate a cake for someone. As they liked the thought if giving loved ones a pastry to enjoy.

The owner then asked you the ingredients you need. Afterwards she went to the storage to get some out for you. But now, you are standing in front of Ningguang with your head down in shame.

"Tianquan! Please they burnt down my shop! I want to file a report and request for damage of property!" The shop owner yelled.

"I understand you want to file a report. But I'll pay for the damages that they had caused. The problem should be solved, no? Since it is only damage of property." Ningguang calmly replied to the angered shop owner.

"But but-" The shop owner didn't have any words to file a report as the issue was only damage of property as they then sighed in defeat. Ningguang then took this opportunity to make business with them.

After some bargaining and business talk going between the shop owner and Ningguang. The owner left her office in a seemingly better mood.

Ningguang then shut the door after they left. "Y/n, next time don't be so careless. Although, I must thank you for giving me this business opportunity.

notes. a request that i got on my wattpad :D i never wrote for yanfei before, but i thought her overthinking was pretty fun to write about. hope you enjoy!

the minute hand on the clock ticked by more slowly than usual as the hour hand crept its way to 1. you had promised yanfei that you would be home 5 hours earlier at the latest but the home was still empty save for yanfei.

yanfei had prepared a hot meal for you, expecting that you’d be home for dinner and starving after completing your commission, but the silken tofu and stew had gone cold a long time ago. yanfei had tried to pass the time with no worries because she believed that maybe your commission was running later than usual. she re-recited the laws of liyue, measured a few objects on her scale, and read a new book from xingqiu when she finally looked up at the clock and realized how late it was getting.

although she wasn’t worried before, the anxiety was building up quickly now.

is y/n’s commission supposed to take this long? the exact words were ‘i’ll be back by 8 at latest for dinner,” so does that mean they expected it to take long? they must have been expecting to be home by a normal dinner time. was the commission a favor for someone that involved fighting or something else? should i ask katheryne about y/n?

yanfei paced the floor of the living room back and forth, analyzing the words you said before you waved goodbye to her. but no matter how much she thought about what you said, she couldn’t come to any sort of conclusion.

“right, maybe i should go to katheryne and ask her,” yanfei decided.

“or maybe it’s best to just wait for y/n,” yanfei changed her mind.

“but i could get a result faster by asking katheryne,” yanfei realized again.

as she went back and forth between staying and leaving, she heard the door creak open.

“yanfei…”

yanfei looked towards the opened door and rushed towards you. it was a terrible sight.

even though it was dark outside, your condition was clearly horrible. you leaned against the frame of the door as you croaked out yanfei’s name. your hair was a mess and your expression was one of excruciating pain. the light from the house illuminated the blood you were covered in. yanfei couldn’t tell whose blood it was, but the way you clutched your side was a clue. the moment yanfei had you in her arms, you immediately collapsed into them and she dragged you to a bed, peppering you with questions.

“y/n? what happened? who did this to you? when did this happen? what commission made you go through this?”

you rasped out, “water.” and yanfei ran to get you some along with bandages and ointments.

she handed you the water and you drained it immediately. 

“i’m sorry,” yanfei apologized, “i don’t have much for your wounds but some bandages and a few antiseptic ointments. i’d call for baizhu but i don’t think he’d come out right now. just bear with me for a little bit.”

yanfei carefully peeled off your clothes and gasped when she saw the gaping wound on your side. it was a large gash created from an extremely sharp edge and there burn wounds everywhere. she felt your forehead and although she had some resistance to heat, she could feel that you were completely burning up.

yanfei wasn’t one to curse much, but at a time like this she couldn’t help but slip one out: “shit.”

she took a clean rag with cool water and started cleaning up your wounds and laying them along your burns. you winced at the pain which only made yanfei wince along with you. luckily, you looked much better once you were cleaned up. she laid a cool towel on your forehead to ease your fever before getting to work on your cut.

“i’m sorry, yanfei,” you gasped as yanfei applied an ointment to the wound, “you must’ve waited for me for such a long time. never thought that i’d be attacked by a fatui agent out of nowhere. wanted revenge-” you inhaled sharply “-for his brother. i let his brother off easier than this though.”

yanfei shook her head as she wrapped the bandage around your torso. “you don’t need to apologize for anything. although i was and am worried, i only want to make you feel better.”

yanfei continued to dress your wounds and tried to apply a burn cream made out of slime condensate. she knew that there was always a chance of accidentally burning someone with her pyro powers, so she always had an ointment on hand. the cool feeling must have been soothing because you seemed to look more relaxed.

you tried to explain the commission to yanfei as she applied the cream everywhere, “some guy wanted me to take a pendant back that an agent stole. i didn’t have to do much to get it back, just pointed my weapon at him and he was scrambling away, leaving the pendant behind. i was goin’ back to the harbor when his brother attacked me saying that i’d get what i deserved. never saw it coming. but he let me go with the pendant after giving me a beating. really is quite beautiful. i luckily got it in my pocket right now so i’ll return it tomorrow.”

“you are not going to be returning it tomorrow,” yanfei declared. her emerald eyes bore into yours. “you are going to stay home and i will be taking care of the commission for you.”

you whined. “but i need to.”

she shook her head in response. “what you need to do is stay in bed and get your fever down. i’m going to bring baizhu here tomorrow to take a look at you.”

you pouted. (how could you pout even in this situation?) “fine.”

once yanfei finished applying the cream everywhere, she started to get a soup going for your fever. however, when she came back with the finished soup, she saw that you had fallen asleep already. she would have woken you up, but seeing how you were deep in your slumber, she decided against it.

“you must be so tired,” she murmured as she sat beside you and started to gently pat your head, “i wish i could have helped you back there.”

yanfei moved her hand and put it against your cheek, watching as you nuzzled against it and mumbled softly, “love you, yanfei.”

she sighed and pressed a kiss on your forehead. “i love you too, y/n.”

Yanfei. Smart, strong, capable, doesn’t need your affection all the time, and is more than happy to give you shit. Oh, you read X book? You had thoughts about it? Why those thoughts? Why not these thoughts? Do you like bitches with a life plan and their finances taken care of? She’s already got a successful law firm. Want a girl that can just do whatever without you having to be there? She’s self reliant. Want someone to ride you and encourage you to improve yourself? How about having someone talk about all the uselesss people she has to deal with, inadvertently putting pressure on you to improve? She’s also a good choice if you’re one of those people that like to have some clear separation between friend groups, because she is frankly too busy to be interested in that unless you want her to be. The only problem I can see arising is that you two might get into arguments in the beginning because of your general communication skills, because she seems like the type to, at the sight of a problem, try and fix it, which is generally not a good way to go about that sort of thing, but the two of you seem like reasonable people; you would just need to have that talk, which is hard, but it’s going to be necessary in any job you take. It’ll be a challenging relationship, but if you can get over that main problem, it’ll be smooth sailing after that, and it would give you the self-improvement you’re looking for.

it was nearly time for the christmas party xiao's family is throwing and of course, his best friend who he is not at all in love with, name is invited. name always have been coming to his family's celebrations but why does it feel different now?

maybe because his sisters are trying to insist him to finally confess the feelings, he has had harboring for 17 years. "xiao, you can't keep stumbling around and acting stupid around them because you like them. it's kind of hard to watch, right, qiqi?" hu tao said, turning to the 10 years old on the couch. she was about to answer until,

xiao rolled his eyes, crossing his arms, "don't answer that, qiqi."

qiqi closed her mouth as hu tao kept saying, "qiqi, you know i'm right. isn't it hard to see xiao kicking his legs and giggling after name leaves."

xiao's neutral bitch face morphed in fear, wallowing in self conciousness. is it really that bad?

the little lavender haired girl paused to think about it and sadly, to xiao's demise, "hmm... jiejie, i do think it's weird to see gege with cooties. i think uncle baizhu has medicine for it."

oh god, it really is that bad.

letting whatever qiqi said sink into xiao's shoulders, hu tao walked away to the closet, pulling out a white board stand. it squeaked, hu tao said, "exactly, which is why i made a plan." on the whiteboard, it said in bolded letters, "mission impossible: xianame christmas edition".

if you looked closely, you could see the faint words of previous "mission impossible"'s that xiao rejected and hu tao had to wipe off. xiao was nearly go along with the plan but skeptical of hu tao because usually, she's a trickster, there's always something up her sleeve.

"another plan?" xiao replied, furrowing a brow. hu tao skipped around, chirping,

"yep! this time it would work, i swear." hu tao's hand resting on the board's shelf.

"you swear? you said this last time on halloween last year and scared name nearly to death."

"i didn't scare them to death..." hu tao trailed off. "they only fainted."

"isn't it the same?" xiao asked. hu tao could tell that he was growing even more skeptical of the plan. as his sister, she knew that she needed to swerve away from that and push him into confessing. it's really embarrassing to see him try to make a move only to get rejected or mid-way change the plan.

"no! anyway, my new and foolproof plan is that since it's christmas," hu tao flipped the board with her other hand. "we can use the mistletoe as our advantage and use it for a romantic moment where you confess your feelings to name. i even asked dad about this and he agreed to it."

mistletoe? isn't that kissing?

"really, you got dad to agree to this."

"yes, and sure you might catch cooties." behind them, qiqi winced out of ickiness. "but better than nothing right?"

xiao stood there for a moment, rethinking about this. "are you sure it would happen perfectly? we don't even know if name likes me back."

"ummm, maybe the christmas spirit would enchant them." hu tao shrugged as xiao's eyes narrowed.

"i don't want a spirit to enchant them. that's not ethinical."

"xiao, don't shame on the spirits. they're very kind, y'know. anyway, the offer still stands but for a priceeeeee." hu tao replied, smiling. smiling like the devil, xiao knew something was up.

"what is it?"

"invite your second bestest friend ever over." hu tao chirped, hands together in a ball across her chest. she patted her eyes, coming closer to xiao, as xiao extended his hand out, creating a distance between himself and his sister.

"who?"

"yanfei!"

xiao tilted his head, hands still crossed. "yanfei? im not friends with yanfei."

"but if you want this plan to really work..." hu tao trailed off, hoping the bait she laid would catch her older brother. until qiqi said, "gege, i think jiejie has caught cooties too."

hu tao nervously laughed, "qiqi, i don't think-"

"ok, ill invite yanfei to the party but if this little christmas plan doesn't work, you're not allowed to make any more, got it?"

"oh my god, thank you sooo much, gege!! you're the bestest older brother anyone could ever have."

it was almost time for the party, the house was decked out with decorations. although the usual red and green theme is what christmas is, xiao's family preferred the gold and red theme. in the kitchen, gingerbread houses were prepped to be put together. as dad helped hu tao place mistletoes around the house, giggling each time. "dad, isn't this bow kind of off centered?"

"hm, i do think it is off centered. do you want me to fix it?" he asked, holding onto the ladder. hu tao replied with a no.

if you looked around you would see the each archway of a room would have a mistletoe, although, none of them are upstairs in their rooms. qiqi asked if she wouldn't be kissed because she didn't want to go to uncle baizhu's home for the vaccine for cooties. xiao made a mental note to tell baizhu to stop telling her that cooties exist when in reality, they are not.

xiao was pacing around the living room again, qiqi was following him like a little duckling. "gege, are you worried about the plan? i think i have vaccines for the cooties. i think though."

"no, it's fine, qiqi." he picked her up, holding her. "do you think it would go wrong?"

qiqi huffed, "no. i see name and they like you. i think i saw them-"

xiao tilted his head, "saw them what?"

"ah, i forgot."

xiao wilted a little.

as the house is fully decorated and hu tao busted her ass off to make it as romantic and christmasy as possible. the door rang, alerting everyone in the family to turn around. is it who xiao thinks it would be? name isn't late but they're not always super early. just before xiao reached for the door, hu tao squealed in delight, racing towards the door.

"hii name!!! and yanfei??? woah, did xiao invite you?" hu tao said, acting all coy as if she didn't try to puppeteer the whole situation. xiao noticed that yanfei's face was flustered. as he thought, huh, it is requited.

"ah, yes, i think so. i mean! yes, he did." yanfei yelped, clearly nervous but hu tao most likely saw her as perfect. xiao averted his eyes to you and god, he thinks you just killed him. from your sparking eyes to your bright smile, your little wave and he can't compute.

you walked towards xiao, confused as to why he's just dazing off into nothingness. hu tao's conversation with yanfei blurring to the sound of christmas music. you poked his cheek, "xiaoo...?" seeing him go from reality from dreamland, which is strange, it's more like the opposite for the two of you. "are you there?"

"ah!" xiao yelped, blinking. huh, you never noticed how long his lashes were. "sorry, i was thinking about something."

"i could tell. what were you thinking about so hard?"

"gege has cooo-" xiao covered qiqi's mouth, "i was thinking of my grades after finals." as qiqi kept trying to talk, he made qiqi walk to hu tao and yanfei. "qiqi has a weird phase of saying cooties. sorry about that."

"no, it's kind of endearing." you replied, walking into the kitchen. xiao saw the little mistletoe above the kitchen's archway, afraid of kissing you in the moment, he redirected you to his room. "my dad's preparing something to snack on and he doesn't like being disturbed. um, lets go to my room instead."

"huh? but your dad loves when people watch him cook so he's not lonely in there." oblivious to the fact that the mistletoes were hung everywhere, xiao knew that hu tao had forgotten his own room. "he changed his rules."

you quirked a brow, "don't lie?"

"i promise i'm not lying." xiao said, trying to make himself sound not lying at all. until qiqi's voice replied, "gege, why are you a liar? i can see from jiejie's room that your pants are on fire. baba loves when people watch him cook."

"see, xiao, i can see what you're trying to pull here." you said. ypu're getting too close. very much to xiao's liking but to make a move? nah, he's good. seeing and loving you from a distance is good for him too.

"what are you talking about?" xiao said, pretending to be oblivious to what you're saying. you sighed and pulled him closer to you. he could feel the warmth from your face. he knows he's flustered by now. "you know what you're doing."

what?? i dont understand.

"what??"

"aw man, i thought this would bait you into telling me." xiao laughed mostly out of fear and anxiety. "you're just as mischievous as hu tao."

why did he compare you to his sister. it's over.

"ha! if i really was, you would've died by now."

he exhaled, "you're right."

xiao was too caught up in the conversation he's having with you, he didn't know that he was right under a trap, the infamous mistletoe. you began to whisper, "look up."

when he did, his face paled as if he didn't agree with hu tao's plan to begin with. but unbeknownst to xiao, you set up this plan with hu tao. you always had even though you had every other chance to make a move on him, he always took it as platonic.

"oh." you pulled him closer,

"ready?" even though he was about to answer, you interrupted him with a kiss. wow you could've saved yourself 17 years of this but you liked to play the long game. xiao just stood there for a moment just before he returned the kiss.

the kiss moment was broken up by a loud flash sound and qiqi crying about how you two would catch cooties. "we need this for memories, can you kiss again for the family album?" hu tao asked as xiao pulled away from your embrace to yell at her. you laughed, winking at hu tao, pulling her brother away from her.

bonus:

zhongli started to console qiqi, cradling her into his arms, "cooties don't exist, qiqi."

"but, baba, uncle baizhu said, 'cooties are very contagious. to cure it i have to get the vaccine from his house.'" qiqi began to cry as zhongli wiped a tear from her face.

"baba! i am not little. i have two digits, i am older now."

"of course, you are a big girl now." zhongli comforting his daughter again, grabbing a gingerbread cookie from the counter. she takes it and cries,

- Since she's the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing she's often very busy doing errands, business meetings and some duties outside of being a Tiaquan. But it doesn't mean that she neglects you, she actually makes time for you and prepares special dates and gifts just for you~

“Well, your partner can consider themselves lucky”, she continued in her drunken slur.

“Beidou. We are dating for years now”, you reminded her. Her face immediately changed to a surprised one before letting out a small cheer.

“Woo, lucky me”, she tried lifting her hand to strike a triumphant pose but was too drunk to do so. And even though you couldn’t help but be slightly annoyed by how drunk she was, you couldn’t help but laugh about her behaviour.

Ningguang

Ningguang may not show it but being the most powerful person in the whole of Liyue was a stressing job, so whenever she finished her work, she would lean back in her chair and light herself her pipe. You may have told her countless times that smoking wasn’t good for her, as if she didn’t know it herself, but whenever she offered you a drag from her pipe, you would always accept one, but never more.

When you had opened the door to Ningguangs office, wanting to surprise her by paying her a small visit, you were greeted by an empty room, only to spot her silhouette on the balcony, making you let out a frustrated sigh almost immediately. So, when you marched next to her, greeting her before throwing a disapproving look on the pipe in her hand, she decided to skip the whole act you had almost every time and offered it to you instantly.

“No, thanks. Not again”, you responded, managing to slightly surprise her, but seemingly only for a moment before she continued smoking again.

“Hmm, normally you accept it”, she commented before glancing at you once again. “Did something happen today or are you simply not in the mood for it?”, she questioned you with the slightest hint of worry in her voice, only for you to shake your head a little.

“I mean, we both know that I always start coughing uncontrollably after trying it and that you always chuckle at my near-death experience afterwards”, you stated sarcastically, causing Ningguang to smile as she seemingly remembered what you were talking about.

“What a shame, it’s funny”, she stated absent minded before turning around and opening the door to her office. “I’m done with work, and you seemingly are too. Let’s get home.”

Hu Tao

Even though you had expected her to remain in her prankster attitude for the whole day, there were times even Hu Tao acted surprisingly calm or normal. There were of course the times the funeral parlour had a client, but even outside of work she would have less energy consuming hobbies. There were many times you would catch her just scribbling something on paper while staring off into the distance as if she was thinking about what next to write, so when you found out that she would be writing poems at that time, you couldn’t help but be interested in them.

Over the last couple weeks, you and Hu Tao would often find yourself writing poetry together, or rather, she wrote poetry, and you wrote… something. You weren’t too sure if what you put on paper could even come close to being called “poetry”, but Hu Tao acted surprisingly encouraging whenever she read them, giving you tips and tricks on how to improve while reading you her own works.

“Are you done yet?”, Hu Tao asked after popping up behind you and leaning over your shoulder, looking at your paper while you tried your best to hide the words.

“I think but let me read over it one last time”, you answered, feeling more than just a bit embarrassed. You had expected her works to be playful and non-serious like most things she did, an assumption which made you feel a bit less bad, but when you read her poems and found out how objectively good they were, you would begin to feel nervous about “competing” against a pro.

“I think I’m done now”, you stated before handing her the paper, only for her to immediately grab it and shove her own work into your hands, starting to excitedly read it. You decided to do the same, expecting the same performance on her part as ever, but instead being surprised when the poem in your hands was the cheesiest love poem you ever read. When you put the paper down, your face completely red from embarrassment, you were greeted by Hu Tao smiling at you mischievously.

“Did you like it?”

“I-I guess”, you stuttered out your answer.

“’I guess’? That’s all? C’mon, I didn’t write such a bad and cheesy thing for such an underperforming reaction”, she exclaimed almost sounding insulted, causing you to get slightly panicked.

“What kind of reaction did you expect?”, you quickly asked.

“Laughing, something like that. You’ve been somewhat gloomy the entire day, so I thought writing something like this would cheer you up”, she admitted, revealing herself to not be as clueless when it came to others emotions as you had made her out to be, causing you to smile.

“Thanks, that’s really sweet, and it wasn’t that bad, just cheesy but actually pretty good”, you thanked her.

Now it was her time to blush as she pretended to look at your poem again before whispering something. “No problem.”

Ganyu

Ganyu usually worked herself to the bone and when she didn’t, it was either because she took a small nap, ate, or just slept at home, so when her co-workers and you got to a level of worry about her wellbeing, that you forced her to take a few days off, there wasn’t much for her to do. At first she planned on simply sleeping through her holidays, thinking that it would be the only thing she would be able to do, but after sleeping for so long, that she physically couldn’t fall asleep anymore, she had to search for alternatives.

When Ganyu came to you and asked if there was something the two of you could do together, since she herself didn’t exactly have many hobbies outside of taking a nap, your mind immediately came up with an idea for a picnic. At first, Ganyu wasn’t too sure about it, always feeling shy about eating in front of others, especially you, but with a bit of convincing from your part, she agreed.

After having finished the meal, you started picking all kinds of flowers that were on the grass around you, making Ganyu curious about what you planned with them, but when you started to braid them, she was left completely confused.

“What are you doing?”, she asked, only for you to stop for a moment and shoot her a short smile.

“You’ll see, I’m sure you will like it”, you stated, causing her to get slightly excited about it. After some time, you told her to close her eyes and not open them until you told her, and shortly after she did so, she felt something being placed on her head, when you told her to open her eyes again and held a mirror in front of her, revealing the flower wreath on her head, she immediately thanked you before asking how to make them.

Over the next hour or so, you showed her each and every step of how to braid one herself and by the time you were done, it had become clear how much she liked it.

Afterwards, there wouldn’t be many days in which she came home without presenting you a new flower wreath she had made, making you happy that she found something entertaining to do.

Shenhe

Whenever Shenhe was done with her training for the day or finished her duties, she would just walk around in the mountains the Adepti called home, finding it to be a much more entertaining activity than listening to her master’s stories of old. There wasn’t much else she could do, since there were neither any humans there, nor anything else that could count as slightly entertaining, and even though she nowadays spent a lot of her time in Liyue, living with you, she still found herself just strolling around outside of the city whenever she had nothing to do, or you weren’t there to entertain her.

Today’s day was as uneventful as it could be, and while some would count that as a good thing, you couldn’t help but get bored, lying on the couch while thinking about anything slightly entertaining to do. Your friends had all decided to visit their families over the holiday, so it wasn’t as if you could invite them, and since you weren’t on good terms with yours, you couldn’t visit them either. You quickly glanced to Shenhe, seeing how she sat there with a blank expression, focusing on nothing in particular.

“Shenhe”, you eventually called out, instantly causing her to shift her attention to you before you finally continued speaking. “What did you used to do whenever you got bored in the mountains?”, you asked, staring at her face while hoping she would give you some good ideas.

“Bored?”, she repeated before seemingly thinking about it for a few seconds. “I usually just take a walk whenever I’m bored”, she answered, causing you to immediately sit up.

“Do you want to go on one?”, you asked once again, seeing her nod her head just a few seconds later. It didn’t take long for the two of you to get ready and walk outside and while the walk itself was uneventful, the conversations you two had during it was enough to keep you from feeling bored any longer.

Keqing

If Keqing had to summarize her perfect day off with a single word, it would be “shopping”. There was nothing she liked more than to go through the shops in Liyue and spend her hard-earned money on as many nice things as she could. And the only thing better than shopping was shopping with a person you like, so when you asked what she wanted to do on her day off, your fate was sealed.

You weren’t the greatest fan of shopping, well, except if it was for something that you were interested in. So, when Keqing dragged you through the whole city and you arrived at the beginning of a street well known for it’s many shops, you could feel the dread in you rising. But you held your complaints silent, not wanting to make Keqing feel as if she was forcing you to do something you didn’t like and more importantly, not wanting to earn her wrath.

“Oh, look there! A shop with Rex Lapis merchandise”, you called out before pointing to the shop and while Keqing was happy for the first moment, she quickly got silent, fearing that anyone could have heard you. Since when did you know about her fascination for them? She thought she did a good job at keeping it a secret. But before she could worry even more, she noticed the look on your face and quickly realised that you wanted to go to it not because of her, but for yourself.

“Fine, since you were such a good companion today I guess we can visit it”, while she acted as if she wasn’t such a big fan of the idea, on the inside she was already planning which item she would buy herself for you, before accidentally taking it home and forgetting that it existed.

Yanfei

Law wasn’t only a hobby for Yanfei. It was a passion. So, whenever she came home from reading through books containing the laws of Liyue, she would place herself on her favourite chair before grabbing a book containing laws from different nations. But sometimes, when she was feeling especially law-y, she would convince you to argue in a mock trial with her.

You of course never had a chance against her. How could a normal resident of Liyue possibly beat the Yanfei in an argument? In your years living in Liyue you had witnessed two gods rise from the sea while trying to destroy Liyue, you saw Rex Lapis’ death, you saw things many generations before you hadn’t thought possible, but not a single time did you see Yanfei lose an argument.

“No, no, no. That law only counts in special circumstances”, Yanfei disagreed with your point before opening one of her books and pointing you out a single sentence. “Here, that’s an important law, you should remember it or you might get yourself in trouble.”

“Yanfei, for you every single law is an ‘important law that you need to know’. I’m a normal citizen, not a lawyer like you. I doubt that I need to know all of these laws”, you stated, causing Yanfei’s face to display a bit of shock.

“’You don’t need them’? These are laws every citizen should know”, she said matter-of-factly, making you accidentally let out a sigh before chuckling.

“Thanks for teaching me all these laws, but don’t you think you’re going a bit overboard? With how much laws you insist I know I could enter the lawyer business”, you joked, only to see Yanfei immediately shake her hands in front of her, clearly disagreeing with you.

“Enter the lawyer business?”, she repeated before grabbing a giant book and putting it on the desk. “These are the laws I have taught you”, she stated, shocking you as you were sure you had forgotten 99% of them. But before you could say anything she pointed at the shelf filled with many books just as big. “Those are the laws you need to know to be a lawyer”, you didn’t know if your jaw dropped, but it surely felt like it. Why would anyone need that many laws?

“Those are a lot of laws”, you silently stated, only to see Yanfei nod excitedly.

“I know, isn’t that great? There are always things you don’t know, so you can always learn new things”, she had seemingly misinterpreted your comment, but before she had the chance to start rambling, she stopped herself before clearing her throat. “Anyway, back to our case.”

Yelan

As if the little dice accessories she wore around her neck hadn’t made it obvious enough, there weren’t many things Yelan liked more than a short, definitely not rigged game of dice. But while her dice would somehow always roll pretty high numbers when the stakes were too high, when playing with you she decided to use dice that weren’t… blessed. It didn’t make any sense not to, since she didn’t have anything to lose, and the expression of joy on your face whenever you won was definitely a good enough consolation prize.

When you finally arrived home, half-dead from the work and the way, the only thing you wanted to do was to sit down somewhere and relax, but when you saw Yelan sit at the table, with a cup and a few dice, you immediately knew what she was about to say. But before she even had the chance to invite you to play with her, you had already sat down in front of her.

“How was your day?”, she asked with a small smile, only for you to shake your head slightly. “Don’t want to talk about it… I see. And I always thought I was the mysterious one”, she joked and even though you tried your best not to, you couldn’t stop yourself from cracking a smile. She quickly handed you a few dice before the two of you started playing.

Amazingly, you were luckier than ever before, winning most rounds. And while you didn’t care too much at first, you quickly got excited with each win before eventually even starting to feel bad about winning so much.

“Don’t worry about it. You’re simply lucky today, that’s nothing to feel bad about”, she tried cheering you up after you had voiced your feelings once you ended your game. You handed her back her dice before smiling at her and thanking her for cheering you up, only for the two of you to go to bed shortly after.

Luckily for Yelan you weren’t too much of an expert in playing dice, since else you might have noticed how a few sides on your dice were heavier than the rest.
