Yanyou was my favourite character in Ashes of Love... I really liked that Jinmi had a male best friend without them being shoved together as a couple, but I also can't help but feel like he was the best choice...

you want sunrise zhang propaganda? no? to bad! have 1.2k of propaganda!
In the final year of Zhiyuan, on the outskirts of Dadu, there were born a pair of twins. On the night of their birth, two stars fell from the sky, striking the young mother, and embedding themselves into the infants. Thereafter, when the two children were born, first the daughter and then the son, they were clear-eyed and able to speak and walk from the moment of their first breath in the world. The parents, seeing their skills, grew frightened, believing that the infants were possessed by spirits, and so they abandoned them on a ledge of rock a day’s walk outside the city, for the heavens to claim as they so wished.
However, unexpectedly, the heavens did not send down lightning or great beasts to claim the lives of the infants. Instead, the girl led the boy down the outcropping, where, at its base, they were found by a pair of Daoist nuns who had come to collect rare herbs that grew there. Laying eyes upon the infants, the nuns were amazed, and grew certain that the children were a blessing. Thereupon, they took the infants, and named them Zhang Yihai and Zhang Yishan, for their skills were sure to be as great as the seas and the mountains.
Until the children grew to adulthood, they lived in the cloister with the nuns, and were trained in the arts of ritual and martial skill. The children surpassed all expectations, and so it was that, in the third year of Zhida, they set out from the cloister to search for a master who would be able to lead them to advance their skills.
Unexpectedly, however, they travelled a great many years, and were unable to find a teacher who could surpass them in skill. Therefore, having travelled for nine years, in the sixth year of Yanyou, they were in the mountains in the northern region of Goryeo, having sought a sage who had been said to have the powers of heaven. In the seventh month of the year, with the moon being full, a great storm came upon them, and the two young people, knowing that to try and fight the will of the heavens would be folly, therefore sought a cave within which to shelter until the storm passed. They had with them a number of cured and dried foods, and a number of small prey they had been able to capture previously on their way through the mountains, and so they built a fire and broke fast, and thereupon fell into a sleep as deep as the great seas.
Upon waking, they found that the storm had passed, and their fire had been extinguished, and upon the walls were written the following: to the righteous, before whom the people bow, upon you bestows the heavens a gift. Follow this path within the mountain, and choose of the treasures what you will. And so, knowing it to be the words of the heavens, our founders ventured deeper into the mountain, and thereupon were greeted with a sight that awed them: before them lay mountains of jades, gold and bronzewares, pearls, and many other treasures of the six colours, stretching high above and disappearing into the cavernous ceiling that lay above, unreachable to human means.
However, they had been raised to abstain of excess, and practice the art of the balanced Way, and so it came to pass that, rather than availing themselves of the many wonders of the mountains, they wandered for a great many hours until they came upon a small alcove hidden at the rear of the chamber, and sitting in that alcove, a plain earthen vase, neither its colours nor its designs remarkable, but they, being knowledgeable of the world, could sense this was the truest object within the trove of treasures. And so, taking this vase, they ventured out of the cavern and into the clear world.
They had come to search for a sage, but instead, they discovered in the following days, they had found something far more valuable. When they held on their person this vase, their bounds would be enough to clear an ancient pine with ease, and their gazes would be as sharp as a hunting eagle’s, and their blows strong enough to cleave in two a tumbling boulder. Zhang Yishan wished to trade the vase between them when necessary, but Zhang Yihai, knowing that such a solution could not be sustained, instead devised of a plan. Upon their return from the mountains, they therefore retreated to the countryside, and there built a humble single-court home, and ground the vase to dust, combining it with the blood of the qilin, which, when combined, formed an ink that, when painted, would change in shape to reflect that which it was painted upon. Thereupon, they took a sharpened bone and, in the practice of the Southern peoples, made upon themselves a great burst of ink, whereafter this transformed into the qilin which our sect now bears as its emblem.
For five years, the two grew in ability until they rivalled the ancients, who had consorted with dragons and lived in the heavens, attracting disciples, and the one-court home was steadily built into the many-winged manor befitting of a great sect. Naming themselves the Zhang of the Sword and the Flower Manor, they grew in fame. However, in the fourth year of Taiding, there came about a rift between the masters of the Zhang, the siblings Zhang Yihai and Zhang Yishan. The venerated elder Zhang Yihai believed the Zhang must make their mark through action, while the younger Zhang Yishan felt the Zhang would best serve the people as a reposit of knowledge. Thereupon, the sect was divided, and the masters grew distant, until in the second week of the fourth month of the fourth year of Taiding, the younger, forgetting his duty to unity they had once sworn, provoked the venerable elder, and thereupon the two came to blows.
Both siblings were masters under the heavens, but only one of them was judged as righteous beneath the heavens. Therefore, after only seven blows, the venerated elder bested the foolish younger, and the floors were washed with blood. Thereupon, the great venerated master, in accordance with the familial edicts, despite the shame her brother had brought, took upon the title of Zhang Qiling, and, being generous and great, did not banish those who had followed him, instead declaring that, until such a time as a worthy heir took the title, the sect was to be divided into North and South, of whom the North would devote itself to martial skills, and the South to knowledge.
Now, after many years, our great sect has once more been united by the great Zhang Qiling, and the division between North and South is no longer necessary. Rejoice, for the venerable master has found her heir! And so, in the first year of Hongwu, with the blessing of the great Son of Heaven, begins the new era of our great sect, and before us, a prosperous future.
- On the origins of the Zhang Sect, as related by Zhang Qianhai of the Former Northern Zhang, per the orders of the great Zhang Qiling in the first year of Hongwu, at the Zhang Ancestral Hall in Beiping, as collected in Zhangjiashi, or, The Collected Histories of the Great Zhang.

Welcome to my WUXIA/XIANXIA MULTIMUSE roleplaying blog currently featuring muses from THE UNTAMED (CQL) / WORD OF HONOR (SHL) / ASHES OF LOVE and YIN YANG MASTER: DREAM OF ETERNITY.
multiverse | multiship | 30+ | low activity/slow replies | written by Doe
CLICK BELOW for blog rules :)
THE BASICS
This is a roleplaying multimuse blog for the series The Untamed, Word of Honor, Ashes of Love and Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity currently featuring Jiang Cheng, Nie Mingjue, Wen Ning, Wen Kexing, Ye Baiyi as main muses as well as several secondary muses (Nie Huaisang, Lan Xichen, Wen Ruohan [canon divergent], Wei Wuxian, He Shouyue, Yanyou). You can find all my muses on the muse page :) My portrayal is mainly based on the live-action dramas, I have not read the translated novels, nor have I watched the animated series (yet). I am open to interactions with MDZS based blogs, but since I only know the live-action series I’ll need your help in understanding the divergences! :)
THE WRITER
I’m over 30 years of age and will only roleplay with those over the age of 18, preferably over 21.
I don’t speak Mandarin/Cantonese beyond a few words and expressions (I am learning, but slowly. Very very slowly). My portrayal is primarily based on the Netflix translations.
I am slow with replies and generally low activity sometimes.
If you recognize me from another fandom under a different nickname, don’t be alarmed :D I go by different names, but I’m never claiming to be someone else. You might know me as Doe, or Min(a). You may use whichever one you prefer :)
I am AGAINST CALLOUT CULTURE and against fandom/ship policing. If you support this kind of behavior you will probably sooner or later take offense in something I write or say, so maybe refrain from following me. Insulting and threatening people online (or elsewhere) regardless of the reason is bullying and nothing else.
VERSES AND THREADS
This blog is multiverse, every thread exists in its own verse unless linked specifically. I am happy to plot and write multiple threads or verses with the same writing partners. I prefer plotted threads over spontaneous conversations and I mostly write multi-para threads.
Memes can be good thread starters so feel free to continue a meme reply if you think it works as a starter. If you’re unsure about it, just ask me :)
FOLLOWING AND EXCLUSIVITY
I prefer to roleplay with mutuals. If I don’t follow you, please don’t respond to my threads or ask me for roleplays. I am open to exclusivity, but only if we’ve been writing for a while and have good rapport out of character. However, I probably won’t go exclusive with any frequent/important canon characters/relations to my muses, e.g. Wei Wuxian & Lan Wangji.
SHIPPING
I adore writing romantic plots and this story in particular is a wonderful setting for beautiful love stories. I enjoy the canon ships very much and use them as default for my muses. I am not opposed to exploring non-canon ships as well! Notable restrictions here are that I will ship Lán Zhàn and Wen Kèxíng only with men, as I portray them as homosexual. NSFW threads are no priority for me, but I’m not closed off to the option. NSFW threads can also be written on discord!
TOPICS, TAGS AND TRIGGERS
Any themes that are present on the series will be present here as well (e.g. war, death, demons, injuries, politics, torture). I tag potentially triggering things as #tw trigger or #cw content warning.
Thank you for reading!

Finished watching Ashes of Love and have a need to ramble.
OK so first off I literally only watched this show because YT suggested me a live video of Zhou Shen performing the end theme with Sa Dingding and the lyrics made me think of hualian so I decided this is a show I can get behind.
Then I looked up the cast and saw Deng Lun was in it, and I’d enjoyed his character in Yin Yang Master: Dream of Eternity so figured I’d give this drama a try too.
Also have to note that watching this I understand how Luo Yunxi got cast as Chu Wanning in Immortality because holy shit?!?!
Seeing him play RunYu (and YanYou pretending to be RunYu) was a fucking delight. RunYu is such a multi-faceted character who undergoes such dramatic changes of personality shows so much emotion, and LYX nailed it every damn time.
Anyway. On to rambling about actual plot and stuff...
Was pretty much Team RunYu the entire way through. I just... couldn’t find myself caring about XuFeng? He was most likeable in the arc where he and JinMi were experiencing hardships in the Human Realm, but other than that just... eh. Whereas RunYu seemed like such a sweet soft boy at first (ahaha)
JinMi totally fell for the wrong guy (once she could fall for someone) !!!
I mean yeah XuFeng is righteous and courageous and whatnot but look at all RunYu did for and gave her. Like holy shit, how much would he have sacrificed for her sake???
At the same time he went full on yandere at one point and that does not deserve reward like jesus christ RunYu chill.
And also he’s a dumbass. It was kind of disappointing at the end that he’s sitting in the Heavenly Realm being all miserable and alone when like. KuangLu and Beast of Dreams are both Right There. And KuangLu had repeatedly pledged her unending loyalty to him.
I mean I guess there’s meant to be parallels with RunYu’s unrequited love for JinMi and KuangLu’s unrequited love for RunYu but UGH. At least acknowledge that you aren’t entirely unloved and alone, stupid dragon! dsfkshgl
Aside from them, omg Liuying and Muci.
They deserved better, damn it
I really enjoyed their story and cared about them and what happened with them a lot more than I cared about the XuFeng/JinMi ship. Muci is such a sweet character, I loved his quietness/stoicism and slight awkwardness in comparison to Liuying being so much more forward and badass.
But they deserved better. Like a fuck ton better. Find each other in the next incarnation, damn it.
Also was it just me or did YanYou and MatchMaker just not appear in the last few eps?
Like is the last we saw of them seriously them in the Floral Realm being sad that JinMi was dead???? In that last episode, wouldn’t MatchMaker be like... aware that JinMi was in the Human Realm living her best reincarnated life with XuFeng??? Being that he’s like... in charge of human marriage and stuff???
As for YanYou I just want to know what happened to him, at the start of the drama he seemed like he would be such a trouble maker but he turned out to be such a good boy.
I loved those two characters in particular (along with Runyu, haha) so it was pretty disappointing not to see them amidst the others during those last ‘tying up loose ends’ kind of scenes. =/
Also loved MatchMaker and YuanJi messing around, would have liked to have seen more of those two
...but I’m judging Yanyou for having a thing for Suihe like sure she has great makeup and some of the best costumes but damn Yanyou, seriously??? (Also where the fuck did that storyline come from so late in the drama??? I’m assuming it’s more important in the novel and doesn’t come across like some random Extra Ship thrown in at the last minute?)
Also LiaoYuan? That poor guy did not get paid enough and then he died. Boo.
AND. A little grumble that Netflix subs did a disservice to the scene towards the end (ep 62? 63?) where XuFeng and RunYu are talking outside [human realm place where human! XF & JM met] 3 years after JinMi’s death, and RunYu walks away to leave and XuFeng calls out to him, ‘Ge.’
But Netflix just subbed it as ‘Runyu’
I know that stuff like ‘ge’, ‘gege’ and so on is hard to translate to English (and honestly I know like zero Chinese so I may be talking out of my ass) but just using Runyu’s name kind of detracted from the significance of XuFeng calling out to him?
Like... after the last 60-odd episodes of drama, fighting, hatred and misunderstanding, and they’re on speaking terms and their relationship is kind of healing so like... XuFeng calling him ‘Ge’ feels really significant in comparison to just calling him by name =/
Aaaa I’m rambling into the void here, TL;DR:
Team Runyu!
Yanyou, Matchmaker & Muci BEST BOYS
Liuying & KuangLu BEST GIRLS
Best of Dreams BEST NON HUMANOID

I’d rather Jinmi marry Yanyou than Runyu. Runyu clearly doesn’t respect her.

Ok so they've done a switcharoo with the bride, but I literally have NO IDEA at this point who is beneath the veil. It's not the bird princess, but it could be Jinmi, Luiyang, or Yanyou. I have NO IDEA.
The best part is that Xufeng also has no freaking clue who it is.
OH I THINK IT'S JINMI!!
IT'S NOT YANYOU BUT HE IS BOWING AS THE PUPPETMASTER, SO ITS GOTTA BE JINMI!!!

I’m about halfway through Ashes of Love and I love how the matchmaker is just... mostly uninvolved in the Politics Of It All, and is instead busy (metaphorically) smashing his Barbie dolls together and making them kiss. He’s the embodiment of this picture when it comes to the two leads, I love him so much

reboot ✨
I finished Word of Honor last night and I’m in high danmei mood, so I really want to revamp this blog. I have cleaned up my muses a bit, most of the Untamed/CQL muses remain as they were, some were removed and I am adding muses from other dramas!
New muses are: - Wen Kexing (Word of Honor) - Ye Baiyi (Word of Honor)
Also I might move Yanyou (Ashes of Love) to this blog as well, but for now he’s still on my sideblog @snakefaery <3
I have yet to make icons and redo my blog graphics and everything, but I’m excited <3
