Joker and Bruce Wayne customs I made!
Their designs were inspired by @jokin-around (who I love as you might know by now) as well as the Telltale games, with my own ideas mixed in

I'm gonna ramble a little, pay no mind, or actually give me ideas and feedback but anyway I just need to write down my ideas somewhere
So for the bjd doll hair, there are. So many materials !!! I didn't know wig could be made of such different things
For the Kaeya cosplay, since it's long, dark blue (not a common color it seems) and straight (unlike Kaeya himself lol) I'm thinking nylon/fake saran. I'd have to make the wefts myself but that way I can adjust length layers to fit the Canon haircut better. It's cheaper than real Saran, and looks as good on pictures. For the light blue strand either I yarn brush a single weft or use a dyed white strand (depend on Louis' hair)
Emilie will probably be my next doll, and oh my god her hair is going to be the most annoying. Why did I make a girl with longish curly two-toned hair ? So either curled synthetic fibers (nylon too? Is it easy to curl/wave ???) or curly cheap mohair. It will depend on the brown shades disponible I guess, and then I'll have to see if I can use Regular Rit dye or some acrylic ink/alcohol mixture to dye the end of the wefts
Christopher will be the easiest : pure black, mid-lengt, straight in a proportionally inverted way to his sexuality. Either I buy more Nylon fibers or I do brushed yarn. The nylon would be better I think, his hair is pretty flat
Louis. Now Louis I now what I want but I'm unsure how to achieve it. See his actual haircut is rather short and fluffy, so I'm guessing brushed yarn would be good. BUT ! I want to use that boy as a Barbie model and dress him up in all kind of clothes and so I'd also like a wig with his "younger" haircut. Which was very long but still kinda fluffy hair. So now if I make both wigs I think it might be best to use the same fiber so no obvious and weird color/texture change between pictures. Does the straight Nylon fibers can curl and "fluffy up" well? Because if I do brushed yarn it's going to be so annoying and hard to get a nice, even length. I think I might end up putting a little more money for actual mohair lambskin for him. 15cm length on a 33cm doll should make nice long hair, right ?
I think I have some leftover yarn wefts from back when I became interested in bjd for the first time (before I made hard hair for my 1st attempt) so I guess I can use this for a random wig to get used to the feels/practice cutting. I definitely don't have the patience to make several whole wigs out of brushed yarn tho. And synthetic fibers are pretty cheap, especially if I buy all my colors at once to regroup the delivery costs
Guess I should try making some hard and soft wig caps at first.

Little Gub
f!reader x mgg (angst)
summary: it’s been years…a very long time. her hair was fluffy just like his- her smile a carbon copy. her dark hair, eyes and tan skin were all traits of her mother, but you could still see him in her as they laughed together, Matthew..
warnings: mentions of miscarriages and sex
Tumblr media
“Well which one does the princess want?” you hear a male voice on the verge of laughter.
“That one- that Barbie comes with a car like the one i have!” came a little girl’s voice afterwards, in which the male voice laughed. “Of course you can Little Gub.”
You knew that voice- all too well. It’s a voice you wish you’d forgotten. One that you didn’t want to think about, yet it replays in your head everyday.
You close your eyes tightly, counting softly to 5. You were scared, knowing that if you opened your eyes he’d be there, and with her. His little angel..his pride and joy. His daughter. She was all grown up now- she was turning 6 soon. You’d never forget when he told you- how excited he was when she got pregnant..when she had her. How you were his first phone call when she went into labor..how after that day you never talked to Matthew again.
Your eyes welled up with tears, but you didn’t want to cry, let alone go into a full on panic attack in the mall. You were shopping for art supplies. You owned a shop nearby- business is good..you’re good, or so you told yourself. Tucking your head into the bags of yarn in your hand you walked pass them as fast as you could. Your heart raced, the tears fell.
“no no- don’t do this to me now..” you whispered to yourself. Only a few steps left, you told yourself. Only a few more steps until you could breathe the fresh morning air and get into your car and forget it ever happened. Only a few..
“Ow!” you snapped back into reality, looking down at her..and one of your bags that laid by her feet.
“oh-! I’m sorry- I’m so sorry.” you scrambled for the bag, cursing yourself in your head. “I’m very sorry..”
“Y/N?” You hear his voice- he said your name. You haven’t heard it fall from his lips in years.
“I’m very sorry-“
“Y/N- it’s okay, it’s alright she’s just dramatic.” In which the girl sticks out her tongue. You gather your bag together and apologize again.
“It’s been a long time, we should hang out! Matter of fact- Little Gub’s birthday is tomorrow, how about you come?” You shake your head,
“I’m sorry- I can’t.” Your hands were shaking as you brushed past him, shoulder bumping his arm..it makes you suck in a shuddering breath as you bolted for the doors to freedom.
The trip to your car felt like a lifetime. Once you were in you turned on the ac, not even bothering to put in your seatbelt. Once you could finally..finally sit back, you cried. You let the last seven years out- hell, you screamed even. you can still hear it..the words leaving your mouth that day- that day that it got worse.
“..another miscarriage.” you had muttered to Matthew. You swallowed down the tears and smiled. “It’s okay though- we can try again, there’s nothing wrong with trying again.” You began to walk away to the front desk when he grabbed you from behind, his head leaning into your neck.
“I’m sorry-“
“It’s not you Matthew, the doctor said nothing’s wrong on your end..it’s me, but we can try again..” He didn’t miss the way your shoulder’s shook as you held back the flow of tears. You didn’t want to cry. You cried the first two times..by three you decided that doubting having a baby won’t allow you to have one- and now with four, it was the hardest thing ever. What hurt you the most was Matthew blaming himself for your misfortune. The doctor told you both it was impossible because of your infertility.
“I love you.” He whispered afterwards…
Over the course of six months after that you didn’t ignore how sad Matthew looked- how disappointed he’d be when the pregnancy tests came back negative, or when you bled within your first week of carrying what could be your child. It was eating him alive, and you couldn’t handle it.
You stopped having sex. You couldn’t even look at him without wanting to break down. You found yourself apologizing to him when he held you in bed..you cried together.
You ended things. You couldn’t help but smile when you did so..you didn’t want to cry, but you didn’t want to lose him either. It was only months later he met her…she was beautiful the first time he’d talked to you on the phone about it. You stayed up for hours listening to his ranting. It was like you were best friends again, before you caught feelings for one another..
They got together shortly afterwards, and again he told you all about it. How happy he sounded..
She became pregnant the following year.
You didn’t miss the excitement in his voice as he talked to you on the phone. He was on speaker, you only stared at the phone through the tears that raced down your cheeks.
And then she had her..his Little Gub he called her, Clementine Marilyn Gubler. He called you before she went into labor, you didn’t pick up a phone call after that day. You read his texts to you- her name, how big she was- he told you everything.
He was finally happy..it’s what you wanted, something good for him. And you…You’d be okay. Therapy was nice for a while, the meds worked wonders. You didn’t like being sober enough to think about them..the happy family Matthew had that wasn’t yours.
You moved on…you found your shop, it was your home your everything. But you knew..something was missing, something you’d never get back.
A knock on your window made you jump. You look over, Matthew’s face smiling sadly at you. He looked over the tear stains on your cheeks, Clementine in his arms. You let down the window as he slides a piece of paper to you, an invitation. It was pink with Barbie on it.
“My number’s on the back, give me a call okay? I’d like to talk again, Y/N..”
He gives you a head nod as he pulls back. You roll up the window and watch as he walks away.. he wasn’t parked far. You can see him kiss her head before putting her in the backseat of the car.
He stared at her for a minute…and then there was a smile. You watch Matthew get into his car, but you were already gone by the time he drove away.
You could help glancing at the pink invitation in your lap, knowing you wouldn’t be showing up

A raggedy Ann/Andy reader sounds fun with some characters from the Barbie movie! A rag doll is a doll after all they just have more things they can do like being very flexible
Ohh I love raggedy ann! Tbh I've had a hc that other dolls/action figures can also inhabit Barbieland if their owner played with them alongside their Barbie toys.
They're rare but they do coexist with the Barbies and Kens!
........
Stereotypical Barbie (Ann!Reader)
At first, learning that a new type of doll was living in Barbieland bewildered her.
You're not like any Barbie she's ever seen before, with you being made entirely of cloth with yarn hair and a triangular nose.
Given how you've been around since 1915, you're stunned by how far dolls have evolved since then.
You're well-liked among the Barbies, although of course many of them had questions about what you could do as a rag doll.
For starters, your plastic-free body gives you more flexibility and freedom they couldn't even imagine having.
You never have to worry about breaking anything!
While you're susceptible to tearing, you know how to sew yourself back up.
Does it scare Stereo!Barbie sometimes when you suddenly produce a needle to fix a loose stitch in your arm? Sure.
But she's extremely accepting and welcoming.
She even invites you to sleepovers during girls' night where you learn more about the Barbies and listen to their gossip.
When she starts having her existential problems, you let her hug you and reassure her she's still the prettiest doll you've ever had the honor of meeting.
Beach Ken (Andy!Reader)
He doesn't usually pay much attention to other dolls aside from Stereotypical Barbie (and occasionally his buddy Allan).
But seeing a new non-Mattel doll enter the scene did pique his interest! Especially since you were the first to ask him why he was staring at her.
He always wonders what your job is...even though you're constantly reminding him you're just a kid.
When he eventually gets it, he'll try to show you the ropes of Beach, trying to act like a cool older brother figure(tm).
Part of him hopes that Barbie will see how sweet he is with kids and another hopes it'll make the other Kens jealous that they're not friends with a cool doll like yourself.
However like Film!Andy you do have a feisty attitude, always rolling your eyes when you see him gushing over her and making a fool out of himself.
Sometimes you think he's trying too hard to impress her.
Yet you have a softer side that comes out after Barbieland is taken back by the girls, and you comfort Ken by saying you did like all the cowboy stuff he brought back (and only the cowboy stuff).
You made the mistake of asking him about horses as he just infodumps random facts for the next ten minutes.
But you finally accepted him as your brother.
Weird Barbie (Ann!Reader)
When you first appeared in Barbieland, you were confused as to why all the dolls here weren't made of cloth like you.
You felt like you were misplaced, and eventually learned about Weird Barbie and sought advice from her.
She explains that your owner in the real world must've either played with you alongside their Barbie toys or shelved you in a collection of them.
Regardless, she assures you it's not a rare phenomenon and it's nothing to freak out over.
You just so-happened to be closer to Barbieland society than most non-Mattel dolls.
She lets you crash at her place anytime you want, and you get to meet all the other outcasted/discontinued dolls who lived with her.
They're curious about you and love how you're flexible enough to do just about anything!
If any of them are feeling sad, you'll give them hugs that help them feel better instantly.
Weird Barbie thinks you're cool 100%.
Plus, you're nice and clearly had manners as you didn't call her "weird" behind her back or to her face.

I got barbie extra 13 to customize! She's secondhand purchase bc I couldn't justify full price for ~mattel quality~ <.<
Misaligned earring hole is my biggest complaint but apparently that little bit wasn't completely cut off and I was able to push it out to hide the damage..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least there was no guilt or fear over ruining her?
This project is me ticking things off my looong wishlist: Goddess sculpt, mint hair + darkish skintone, yarn as microbraids (technically twists?) and shaved side
Also leggings pattern by @dollsahoy, thanks for sharing!

This Skipper used to be Delight...
Here she is: Delirium of the Endless, in doll form!
This gal was SO fun to make, and I was so proud of the result, I took too many pictures of her for one post! So a further post of detail photos will be linked below.
Tumblr media
Post of further detail photos HERE
As for her siblings as custom dolls:
Dream of the Endless [detail post] [outfits post]
Death of the Endless
Desire of the Endless
Explanation and tags under the cut:
Okay, so I purposely started with a Skipper (Barbie's teenage sister) rather than Barbie to give her a younger look. I completely redid her hair, making my own doll hair out of rainbow yarn, painstakingly unraveling it, brushing it out, and flat-ironing it to create the wefts. It took multiple weeks to create the hair alone, as brushing out the yarn is surprisingly physically taxing and I had to do each color individually. The hair charm is from the top of a Barbie Fairytopia scepter, partially painted.
For the face, I went with a combination of inspirations/references. My main one was Stephanie Hsu as Jobu Tupaki in Everything Everywhere all at Once, but I also included @orionsangel86 's fancast of Chloe Hayden and also added a bit of Kesha (especially her Ke$ha-era looks). Her eye paint is metallic, like Desire's. I also individually glued eyelashes on her, trimming them down from human-sized false eyelashes. I let her lipstick be a bit smudged on purpose.
For her clothes, I was able to keep the skirt and boots from the original doll. For the fishnets and matching mesh cutoff shirt, I cut apart some "1980s costume" mesh gloves from an old Walmart Halloween costume set I'd gotten on clearance years ago. Given the small scale and delicate fabric, everything had to be hand-sewn. I sewed a bit of scrap t-shirt fabric to make her a tube top to go under the mesh.
I also did something totally new: completely custom-fabricating a themed stand for a doll! I'll go into more detail about that in the "details" post to prevent this from getting overly long, but suffice it to say here that it involved a lot of custom sculpting and casting using hot glue, of all mediums!
tagging @serenityspiral @duckland @roguelov @academicblorbo @notallsandmen @ambercoloredfox @lizajane2
and of course tagging Delirium's #1 fan @onehundredandeleventropicalfish

redesigned some project diva modules i don't really like 😅
-went for a more american competitive cheer look for Cheer Miku -idk I dont like how busy the original is imo -alt cheer:
Tumblr media
-luv u sasakure.uk but idk what is going on here w/ hello world im sorry -also very busy design -tried to give her the look of an android in a post-apocalyptic world, giving her those robotic markings on her arms and having this device she carries around -pants miku > -green haired miku >
-pink pops my beloathed. this might just be my least favorite module of them all -and it was the hardest to figure out a redesign for -but also the redesign i ended up loving the most -all the elements in the og…do not make a single ounce of sense to me. the buttons? with the cowboy boots? and the ugly ass pink top with matching arm-length gloves? the shorts that are gonna give miku a massive wedgie if she moves even an inch? eugh… -anyways I ended up taking the cowboy boots and buttons are rolling w/ them. becos as much as I dislike the originals, the point of this was to challenge myself to make something good out of things I disliked. -so I ended up w/ a little sewing-themed cowboy miku! -her hair is yarn and her lasso is a tape measure -she's giving Barbie but i love that for her

Doll Hair Repair Tools
Updated Jan 05 2024 (because I got a new flat iron and I’m excited!!!!)
For a while, there, I was using this Conair flat iron (you can see when I bought it):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s here: https://amzn.to/3tL8Qtt
This one has 30 heat settings, though it doesn’t tell you what they are, exactly. They’re just labeled 1-30.
Kanekalon - 1
Nylon - 10 through about 15
Polypropylene - 10 through about 15
Foil and plastic tinsel - 1 to 10, choose whichever matches the hair fiber
Saran - 5 - 10
Brushed acrylic yarn - I know I have used this to flatten brushed acrylic but I don’t remember what setting it was on. You’d have to start at 1 and work your way up to figure it out, but it’s doable with this iron.
It was ok, but I found it difficult to get close to the scalp on a lot of dolls and ponies with my flea comb, which gives the smoothest flattening. The Conair also had a problem where the plates only really touched each other at the very tip, and that’s not very useful, honestly. It’s difficult to get a good flattening unless you’re committed to doing 1/4th inch sections at a time.
I started seeing really narrow flat irons on Instagram, and went looking for one to try.
I found this one:
Tumblr media
Now this one, which is here:  https://amzn.to/3S7jLqA
I am so impressed!!!!!
It tells you the actual temp (in Fahrenheit; important to know), but not only does it show you the temp you’ve set it to, it shows the temp it actually is! You can watch it count up as it heats up! That’s super handy and makes it easier to know if it’s malfunctioning.
it also beeps at you when it’s ready.
It’s lowest temp is 120F which is far too cool to even do anything to Kanekalon, meaning this flat iron works for many 80′s and 90′s Barbies that are otherwise difficult to smooth out without melting their hair. I haven’t tested, yet, whether it’ll work on Creata hair without melting it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found 200 is right around when I could feel the hair starting to stick to the plates, so for Kanekalon I recommend 190 and no higher than 200.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For nylon, 250 is where it started to feel a little sticky, so 240 to 250 is about as high as you’d want to go. Nylon is pretty hardy and may tolerate a slightly higher temp. Go higher at your own risk.
Polypropylene needs a temp right about where Nylon is but I didn’t test it to find out the exact right setting.
Regardless of which flat iron you’re using, remember to wash and condition the hair first, to get the best results.
Ironing damp hair works best, but you don’t want it dripping wet. Dripping wet hair can result in boiling hot drops in your lap, or water getting into the flat iron and causing an electrical short. Towel the hair off, first.
Tumblr media
To get the smoothest hair with the flat iron, I use a handled, metal flea comb to lead the iron.
https://amzn.to/3S5ICv6
You do want metal tines. They aren’t going to snag on or tear the individual hair fibers the way plastic tines can. Though avoid any metal combs that are punched from a sheet rather than made of individual wires. Those will destroy everything with their sharp edges
This comb having a handle lets me keep my hands away from the heating elements on the flat iron without needing to wear heat-resistant gloves.
Tumblr media
These dog combs are excellent for detangling prior to making your final passes with the flea comb.
https://amzn.to/41UpX8U
The wire tines are smooth and gentle with hair, but it is also unyeilding so you do have to be cautious that you’re not ripping or tearing through tangles.
Tumblr media
If you have a lot of knots that are difficult to remove, try a cat slicker brush.
https://amzn.to/47mw4DT
Again, the wires are metal and won’t shred your hair fiber. Using a cat slicker over tangled hair will make an awful noise, but that noise isn’t the hair tearing like it would be with the metal combs above, it’s the sound of the wires being pulled back and then springing up again.
A slicker brush yields to the tangles a bit and doesn’t pull.
You do have to be careful with a slicker, though, because the wire bristles are very fine and will stab you.
Tumblr media
I do work with older Barbies sometimes, and sometimes they have Kanekalon hair that’s supposed to be crimped. Kanekalon can’t take much heat and melts easily, so again, you need a variable temp tool.
This multi tool works:  https://amzn.to/3S5aT4W
I haven’t tried using it to flat iron because it’s rather wide, but I have successfully recrimped Kanekalon on the lowest heat setting, and nylon on the second or third setting.
You can see that this crimper combo tool is the same brand as the new flat iron mentioned above, but I think this one is in Celsius. I’m not 100% on that.
Tumblr media
I do NOT gate-keep tools or supplies so if you have any questions, let me know.

I bought Magic Mixies Pixlings’ Unia the other day and wanted to do a mini review/compare her to some of my other dolls and her Moose Toys brethren.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off, she’s adorable! A bit pricy because of the potion gimmick, but younger me would have loved that aspect. I love her very soft hair fiber (it feels very similar to the kiwi hair that Rainbow/Shadow high uses). I like that she has arm movement and an elbow joint (it is a bit limited and she can’t even bend her arms 90 degrees), I would have loved a knee joint but she sits well without one. She has pretty good neck range of motion and can look up and down really well. Her face sculpt and screening is kinda giving me Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck it Ralph. She does have sculpted on clothes, but I don’t necessarily mind on her. Her skirt is kinda cute, but unhemmed and really wants to stay in place due to the tight elastic.
If she would have had a little horse tail she would have been perfect.
Tumblr media
Other Moose Toys that I own (even some unicorn themed ones to compare her to). More under the cut.
Tumblr media
Here is Unia and FailFix 2Dreami. Both ladies have a sky theme going on. Both girls look to have very similar printing methods. They’re both really shiny and lightly pixilated but way better than the pixilated mess Mattel has been using on its accessories and Barbies.
Unia has way better hair quality than 2Dreami (which has either Saran or nylon - it’s soft, but really rough on the bottom). But she has less articulation.
Tumblr media
The torso looks pretty similar (ignoring all the other sculpted detail on Unia’s -which I was happily surprised continued under her skirt) to 2Dreami. And while I thought they’d have similar looking legs, they differ just enough (Unia’s look softer and rounded). My Capsule Chix has more articulation than both dolls, despite their minuscule size.
Tumblr media
Unia found out just how articulated they were…. “Bzzzt…catch my legs before they wander behind the cupboards again…bzzzzt.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, it looks like the same sort of screening method that 2Dreami also has. But what I was surprised to see, were how similar their feet were (despite Capsule Chix’s sculpted circuitry), they looked nearly identical. And while their hand shapes are similar, they are way different, with Unia having really deep fingernails imprinted on her hand and her palm being less round.
Tumblr media
Now the smallest member of my Moose Toys, Rainbow Sparkle the Shopkins Wild Style Shoppet. She’s so short, Unia can’t even bend her head down low enough to see him.
Tumblr media
There we go, that’s better. They’re pretty dissimilar from one another and are two fun takes on a winged unicorn…err…pegacorn…alicorn…pegacornaunisusicorniune. Rainbow Sparle is very limited on his movement, and can only move his arms up and down and swivel his head around. He’s also flocked and has really cheap poly-feeling hair. He still had those blushed cheeks that Unia and 2Dreami have.
Tumblr media
Their wings are completely different too. …sigh…I’m going to have to give Unia a tail…she really needs a little yarn weff tail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, what I was most excited to compare her to. Some of my Zelfs!! They were a bit shy at first, but warmed up pretty quickly.
We have Moonicorn, Hightail, and Lullaby as my unicorn (and winged unicorn for Hightail, he also has way different wings) inspired Zelfs (they all have tails too).
Tumblr media
Moonicorn and Lullaby (Hightail had to be somewhere, and is absent from the other pictures because of that reason and not the fact I forgot I owned him 90 percent through the review) introduce her to Teeny Genie. He’s not a unicorn, but his body color scheme and pointed ears had to be compared to Unia.
Tumblr media
Maybe they had shared a cousin in the evolutionary tree?
Honestly, the Pixlings and Zelfs work very well size wise for each other and I could imagine younger me thinking they were two kinds of fae living in the same world.
Tumblr media
Oh, I also wanted to show the horns on Moonicorn, Unia, and Lullaby (Hightail basically has the same horn as Lullaby). Moonicorn is the most similar to Unia’s and even has glitter embedded inside. The horn shapes are also very similar and might be the same basic sculpt (just longer on Moonicorn to fit his face better). Moonicorn in general has a lot of similar swirly cloud motifs, glittery horn, and gemstones that Unia has.
Okay, how about outside of Moose Toys?
Tumblr media
Unia is smaller than Aubrey from MGA’s NaNaNa (I don’t own the unicorn one to compare her to). They have a similar hair fiber.
Tumblr media
When the designs first leaked, I thought she was going to be the size of a Cave Club doll, but it turns out she is even smaller, but she has large flat feet like Tella here. Tella has more articulation, but cannot bend her head up or down and has poly hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would have liked to compare Unia with my one Enchantimal: Lorna Lamb (or if I had ever managed to my hands on her, Queen Unity on the right). I assume the regular Enchantimals like their unicorn Ambrose (on the left) are about the same height as Unia, but I know they have smaller feet and heads than Unia. They also have less articulation and have the creepy character design of having TWO SETS OF EARS (my pet peeve when it comes to designing animal/humans). Unia also has better hair fiber and her skirt/molded top is also better done than any of the Enchantimals that I have seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is the same height as MH G2’s surprise siblings: Pharrah (she could have been a little cousin and it would have been so much better). She can even share shoes. Pharrah would show more emotion here, but she has such bad articulation, she basically has NO ARTICULATION. Sigh, anyways….
Tumblr media
Two big eared pink ladies Unia and Kjersti. I was actually surprised at how similar their profiles were. Again, Unia has better hair quality (especially over glue seepage Saran…I promise I’ll get to cleaning you Kjersti).
Tumblr media
Unia had to meet the most popular of pink Monster High dolls: Draculaura!! Draculaura thinks she is absolutely adorable, and kinda reminds her of someone…Fan-Fang-Fangelica…no, she’s just a dream (she actually would have been a much better comparison to Unia than Pharrah now that I’m looking back at these -whoops).
Tumblr media
And a final shot of my unicorn dolls all together! Neighthan Rot even joined in the family photo (I love my little crayola zombie unicorn boy so much…he even got a tail too….yup that’s it, I’m picking up some yarn and going to make her a tail).
Anyways: Magic Mixies Pixling Unia. She’s really cute guys. I am really excited to pick up the rest of the line and am looking forward to where the line goes, even if it is another one of those doll lines that only stay for one wave. I know my Walmart is already having issues stocking them (they only had three of Unia and Merena when I first saw them, and were completely sold out the next day -besides this Unia that had been rat-holed in another aisle).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she’s got a tail! Perfect! I also painted some details on her top in a silver and pearly color.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is step away from a project and return to it later. Three of these dolls I started last summer, and one of them is from this year but gave me trouble, but I'm taking some time to fix them up and play around, and it feels better now.
For the first, the G3 Draculaura with purple hair, she's my mini me. I had a rough time because I tried to match my own hair, but finding a yarn color that matches was not working out. So I switched gears and went with a dark purple to match the darkness, and purples and pinks because they're some of my favorite colors. I'm slowly embracing her as a new look for my persona. The yarn hair isn't totally cooperating, but I'm learning to deal with it. I'm really excited to get this little fairy done, I quite like being something more fantastical than usual!
The Raven Queen head was actually my last attempt at a mini-me (hence why she's on a curvy made to move Barbie body), but I wasn't happy with her for myself, still didn't feel like me. But the expression is so cute, I had to finish her and make her into someone else. I think I'd like to call her my Susie Campbell, it suits her.
Ursa is my first attempt to customize a Hunter Huntsman doll. His body tattoos were so much fun, but he was missing something: facial hair. He needed a bit more for looking older and tired, and I think this suits him much better.
Vida was an experiment on my Cori Cruize doll that had a bad leg. She's a mermaid, and I wasn't fully sure what to do with her face, but I like this quite a bit! The way the pearly gouache hits the light is a lot of fun. I'm glad I took the time to play with her more.
Sometimes you need dolls in your collection that you learn from. The thing people don't tell you about doll customizing is that it's the same as any other art form: there's a learning curve, and practice makes perfect. Not every face-up you do or outfit you sew is gonna move forward, sometimes you stumble, and it's okay to not be perfect. Take it at your own pace, and don't be afraid to put things down and try again later. 💜 Sometimes fresh eyes are quite valuable.

Ernst Robinson x fem reader AU
*this idea has been in my head for a while, ever since I re-watched barbie as the island princess. But, imagine Ernst having a relationship with an island girl and slowly falling for her*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You peaked through the damp forest trees, watching below as you spotted two cuertin creatures that walked and talked, like you. You slowly move up the tree branches, causing the leaves to russell. “Did you hear that?” You stop in place thinking they spotted you, until you hear the loud echoes of crunching twigs and low grunts coming from the bushes below. The two step closer towards the rustling sounds, until it stops…..”Run!” The loud grunt of a large boar emerges from the bushes, charging after the two.
You quickly follow behind, still staying out of sight, watching as they both struggle to climb up a nearby tree, the boar almost nipping at their feet. You pierce your lips together and blow in the boar's direction, causing it to startle and run away into the large bushes, allowing the creatures to catch their breaths.
“Who’s there?”, one of them shouts. “Please, we're looking for our brother. We got shipwrecked and now we're stuck here…please help us!” You sigh and slowly emerge from the tree, lightly landing your bare feet on the cold wet ground. Not like you haven't gotten used to it by now, your feet were already covered in dirt, bruises, cuts, grime, and any other part of the forest you've explored that day.
You keep your hand on your pocket sized knife you made from rock and yarn, not sure if you should trust these…People? “A girl.” A young boy, looked to be about 15, short messy hair, and now covered in dirt, slowly steps towards you, while you hesitantly take a step back. “It’s alright. We’re not going to hurt you. I’m Fritz…and this is my brother, Ernst.” You glance over at the other boy. He looked older, about 17 or so, taller, had slightly longer hair than the other, and had these piercing blue eyes.
“Can you speak…English?” Fritz asked. You slowly nod, continuing to scan the boys up and down like a feral cat.“Could you help us? We're looking for…” As he tries to touch you, you quickly point your knife towards him, the tip barely piercing neck. “Wow…wow, wait…we're not looking for any trouble.”, Ernst said with a shaky voice. “We were in a shipwreck and…”, “Shipwreck?” you replied. “Yes, at the front of the island.” you remove your knife away from Fritz neck and look to the floor.
It’s been years since you’ve seen another person, and from what he said reminded you how you got here in the first place. You sigh, “You said you needed help, right?”, they both nod. You didn’t know if you should trust these boys, but you had a gut feeling that something good might come out of this.
Both the boys stare at you as they proceed to lead the way, gazing at your unique attire. You wore an old white cloth that you wrapped around yourself and tucked into your sides. When you first washed up on the island you wore an old childs Victorian dress with ruffles all over, but over time the dress became damaged and mangled, and soon you started to grow out of it, to where you could barely fit it over your shoulders if you wanted to. Surprisingly, your hair was pretty neat and tidy, placed in a neat french braid ponytail tied back with vine . Of course, you had no shoes. as you grew out of those as well, so through the years you had just gotten used to being barefoot, and whatever you stepped on you’d just had to be lucky it wasn’t poisonous. “You think she’s from a previous shipwreck?” Ernst whispered. You couldn't properly remember the night of the wreck, but sometimes you could imagine bits and pieces here and there, but most of the time it was a haze.
“Father! Mother!” Fritz shouted. “Fritz”, his mother called. “Where were you? You were supposed to stay on this side of the island!” His father shouts in a stern voice, his face almost turning red. “Yes, but father we found…a girl.”  They all look up at you, shocked to see a girl your age in this state, and surprisingly alive. “Oh my goodness.” Their mother takes her damp shawl and wraps it around you, trying to cover your body from the boys. You jolt away at first, confused why, you never really cared to notice the changes in your body, or even know what it was like to experience woman hood. So it was clear she was covering you so you would have some decency. “Where did you find her?”, “In the forest, she helped us get away from a boar,” “A boar!” their younger sister shouts. “Oh you poor thing. What’s your name sweetheart?”
“My name is…is…Y/n.”

Interlude: Doll/Pony Tinsel Types and Why I Hate Them.
Still working on that box of ponies, so nothing to queue at the moment.
Anyway, I have a love/hate relationship with tinsel. It’s pretty, sparkly, and shiny but it’s unruly and difficult to manage.
There are 3 main types of tinsel that I know of, though I do NOT know their official names. I don’t even have any of my least favorite in my stash.
Tumblr media
I do have mylar, and two different foils:  faceted holo and smooth.
My least favorite, and thankfully one I don’t see too often:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This type of tinsel, shown here on a Deluxe Disney Store 17in Singing Rapunzel and a Fashion Star Fillies Bobbie (this is also Monster High G1 Cleo’s tinsel) is a very thin, fragile strip of metallic foil that’s tightly twisted with a bundle of equally fragile (I think nylon) strings because the strings have short fibers that are twisted together like tiny yarn.
When it’s new, it has a beautiful, light-catching sparkle. It also lays and behaves more like hair, though it doesn’t take a curl well.
However, the more it’s touched, brushed, or combed, the more it falls apart. The Rapunzel example shows the strands separating pretty well.
The foil will get stretched free from the strings and break, the string will shred, and you end up with a lot of loose, broken bits in your comb.
It also tangles easily, and does NOT untangle easily.
I dislike trying to work with this type, because it cannot be flat ironed smooth because it’s twisted, and most of it is lost in the repair process.
Tumblr media
Bobbie ended up with only some short bits left after all of the broken string and foil were removed from the tangle.
My favorite for aesthetics, but not great for styling (not that any of them are great for styling):
I love the look of mylar tinsel. It’s holo and works with most hair colors without being overtly visible (like, the tinsel is clear so it won’t affect the visual color of the hair, just add sparkle) if you don’t mind your sparkle being predominately green. You’ll see it a lot on G3 MLP.
This type of tinsel is more resilient and can stretch a bit before breaking. It also holds up relatively well to combing, other than it’s penchant for curling when combed.
Tumblr media
Bit it is UNRULY and gets very messy with play.
Look at this Barbie (photo from Mandarake):
Tumblr media
While this tinsel CAN be restored (flat irons well on the same settings as nylon hair), it will curl up again immediately the first time you brush or comb it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It likes to stick up and, despite liking to curl on it’s own, does not like to BE curled. It likes to do it’s own thing.
The third type which I am rather neutral about:
Foil! This is the tinsel most often used in G1 MLP.
It is pretty, shiny, smooth, metallic, comes in tons of colors (both flat colors and the faceted holo type I showed earlier), and is relatively resilient to play though you can easily pluck out individual strands.
It’s downside is that it crunckles and when it crunkles, it looks and feels horrible.
Tumblr media
Before I started working on ponies I’d see people saying that you can’t really FIX this type and to uncrunkle foil tinsel, you pull on it to stretch it out. The only problem I have with that is that it can only be stretched so far or so many times before it loses it’s ability to stretch any more. When stretched, this tinsel does NOT bounce back. It stays stretched.
Tumblr media
I have discovered that you can, in fact, fix it. It also flat irons on the same heat setting as nylon.
The only issue I’ve run into with fixing this type of tinsel is that sometimes the colored coating flakes off leaving a bare silver color behind. That has happened very rarely.

Crochet MerMay! Decided to do some character ones this time around:)
Tumblr media
First up is Live Action Ariel! I had the perfect yarn color for her tail, yay! Went off the doll for her top. I had hoped to use the Barbie hair twirler/braider thing to make her twists but had to do them the old fashioned way, they look so cute! I also made her little bag and Flounder .
Tumblr media
I even made her a dinglehopper! (she can’t hold it but it does fit in her bag).
Tumblr media
Next is Wednesday Addams (middle niece is OBSESSED with the new show). Even though the new one inspired this gal she is based more on the old comic version and thus no eyelashes. I know it’s like a Puritan Collar but the points look like fangs. I wavered between a piranha and a shark for her fish friend but decided shark was cuter.
Tumblr media
Teefs.
Tumblr media
Last is inspired by Barbie! I didn’t realize a LOT of the older Mermaid Barbies (80′s-90′s) have aqua or gold colored tails, not pink! But mine is pink:) She comes with a crown and a “seaweed” skirt...
Tumblr media
which doubles as a scrunchy! She also has two barrettes-a star fish and a sand dollar:)
Tumblr media
They hope you have a nice MerMay day!

If anyone was wondering what I did for international lesbian day yesterday, it was driving down to Target with my mom to pick up the rest of the G3 core six! [Are they called the core series? Signatures? Wave 1?]
I'm really taken with the whole of G3 thus far - at least, in terms of the dolls. I never held out hope for a revival of G1, and my optimism on a reboot was pretty much dead with how much I disliked G2, so it feels surreal to have new Monster High dolls released in stores that I love once again.
I'll put the rest of my thoughts under the cut, though - it's going to be a long, infodumping, overdetailed post.
I love the more varied body types - which I'll go into more detail on later - and that the average doll has a thicker body overall compared to G1. They feel more sturdy and I expect/hope that they won't get the loose hip or elbow joints that G1 dolls did. The torso articulation is also a very nice touch, especially for helping them balance and stand on their own.
If I ranked the dolls from favorite to least, I'd currently put it at Draculaura, Frankie, Ghoulia, Cleo, Clawdeen, Lagoona. I expect this to change as I restyle the dolls, though, and I also have some actual customization plans to reroot Clawdeen with brown yarn and give Ghoulia a repaint. Clawdeen in particular I expect to like more once she has better hair than that pastel polypropylene.
I liked Cleo a lot more in comparison to the other dolls before I actually unboxed her. Now that I have, her outfit feels. . . quite bland. Her dress is just a one-piece and while she does have a very cute jacket [not pictured], it doesn't fit well over the dress since they're both long-sleeved. I'm also still not a huge fan of the molded-on bandages and I'll likely paint them to make them stand out better. Her headband also stays on rather poorly [so does Draculaura's but unlike Cleo, Draculaura's outfit feels complete even without her headband]. Cleo's face is one of my favorites, though, I think she has the most striking makeup.
The pets are generally decently cute [except Neptuna. Not a fan of whatever's going on there]. I've seen comparisons to Littlest Pet Shop, but to me they look much more like Barbie pets - specifically that it looks like they have eye makeup. They all feel rather lightweight - AKA cheap - but I hope that will make it easier to balance them on the dolls.
I should mention that none of G3 dolls come with stands or brushes. I can see the logic with stands since they can stand on their own - even though it's flawed logic, there's no way they'll stay standing on display. I don't know why they don't have brushes though. Personally I don't mind because I have more G1 brushes than anyone could ever need, but their hair is clearly meant to be played with and styled so it's an interesting choice not to include them. Speaking of which, none of them have glue seepage or unnecessary gel in their hair - not something I can say for many G1 lines. I will also complain about some of their accessories not quite matching the rest of their color scheme [ex: Frankie's shoes don't match any of the other pinks in their outfit] but this was also present in G1. I am disappointed at the lack of diaries as well.
Tumblr media
Close-up on all of their bags. All of them except Clawdeen's have backpack straps, and Cleo's is the only one that snaps open - all the rest have an opening in the top that the thinner accessories can be slid into. Draculaura, Lagoona, Cleo, and Ghoulia's backpacks also have loops to carry them like handbags, but the ones on Ghoulia's are oddly small.
Tumblr media
Draculaura's bag gives her little bat wings when she wears it and it is the cutest thing in the world. She also has this little white cameo necklace which you can just barely see in this picture - wondering if there's lore significance to that or just an outfit detail.
Tumblr media
Draculaura also has a widow's peak now! I love it, and I'm looking forward to one of the leaked[?] Draculaura dolls that doesn't have bangs and thus shows it off.
Tumblr media
More accessories, specifically Ghoulia's. The knock-off Switch is adorable - quite possibly my favorite of the handheld G3 items so far - and if Mattel hasn't come up with a monster pun for it, I hope someone in the fandom has. The skateboard having Deadfast on it is another detail I really like [though it's now a good time to complain mention that the print on practically all the accessories - that is, electronics, food, etc. - looks very blurry].
Tumblr media
I was able to balance Ghoulia standing on her skateboard which I'm thrilled about. In general I love that the g3 dolls can stand on their own. Still not a replacement for stands, but it does make for more posing options for photography.
Tumblr media
More Ghoulia since she's still my favorite character of the main six, even with the design changes [I anxiously await seeing her animated adaptation beyond promo renders]. Her shirt design reads very neurodivergence/autism symbol to me :] Sir Hoots-a-lot can attach to her forearm - much like an LPS owl - and with the G3 pets being rather lightweight, he stays on well without weighing her arm down. Those are his glasses she's wearing here because I think they look much better than her actual glasses, which have these thick, foggy lenses that obscure her eyes. I don't know what the deal is with those - G1 Ghoulia had lens that were transparent just fine, and then G3 Clawdeen's glasses don't have lenses at all.
Tumblr media
More on the different body types! Most of the main six [Frankie, Clawdeen, Lagoona, and Ghoulia] have the same torso. Frankie has longer forearms and shins, Draculaura is all-around shorter with thicker hips, thighs and limbs, and Cleo is the same height with a tighter waist and, in comparison, wider hips. Otherwise, their bodies are the same proportions.
The above image to the left is a comparison of the forearms and hands of G3 Draculaura, Ghoulia, Frankie and G1 Catrine. The G1 arm is slimmer than the G3 dolls, and Draculaura's arm is slightly thicker than the other G3s. The G3 dolls have thicker arm and hand pegs- sort of like CAM dolls - which I'm very thankful for, I feel less concerned about snapping them while putting them back in place or pulling them out. The G3 dolls also have larger hands than G1 which I quite like.
On the right is a close-up of Frankie's prosthetic leg. I love the detail in it, especially that "Frankie" is written as if Frankie wrote it themself. I'm disappointed to see it's not removable, though - Vandala Doubloons from G1 had a removable leg so I don't see why they couldn't do it here. Ghoulia's legs are beside Frankie's to hopefully show how Frankie's are longer.
Tumblr media
Even with the different body types, the clothing is still rather interchangeable between characters! I wouldn't mind if the clothes weren't - Monster High clothes are so character-specific that I've long seen it as the perfect doll line for varied body types - but it's definitely a pro that they are. Their tops fit each other very well. Draculaura's pants are a little loose on Frankie, but it just means they sit lower on their hips. Frankie's skirt fits Draculaura nicely, though it would be much easier to dress her in if it had velcro all the way down the back. Frankie's belt just barely fits Draculaura, but really who's going to be wearing that besides Frankie.
Tumblr media
A major part of why Draculaura and Frankie are my favorite signature dolls of the main six are their clothing layers. They both have these sleeveless tops [a "corset" and vest, respectively] that work as tops on their own, and the blouses underneath them also work on their own as shirts. With their jackets [capelet and jacket, that is] they have the most complex outfits of the whole line.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, a closeup on Clawdeen's shoes. They're my favorites out of the line, largely because of that pawprint tread. This picture also hopefully shows how those are not actual socks on her, but leg warmers. I also ended up demonstrating how ridiculously poofy that polypropylene hair is. I look forward to rerooting her more and more.

Strawberry shortcake...!
This is a review of many different Strawberry Shortcake character design iterations over the years!! Long post beneath the cut!!
1980's: 10/10
Tumblr media
Not the very first design, but definitely the one from when Strawberry Shortcake first gained traction as a brand and character. Absolute instant classic. Has that Raggedy Ann charm, I like that the hair seems to be yarn to really get across that she is a plush doll. She looks very squishy! Not the design I grew up with, but I've always been fond of it.
1990's: 5/10
Tumblr media
I'm actually not very familiar with the 90's design, so maybe it's the fact that I don't have nostalgia for it, but I'm not really a fan! She needs a big hat. There is a reason that every other iteration of the design has a big hat: the big hat is good. It's iconic. Without her dumpling-shaped face I think this design would be very bland, there's not much memorable about it.
2000-2003: 16/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These designs were used briefly before the 2003 revival TV series and were exclusively used in things like greeting cards, gift paper, and stickers. You can see with the second image that this is the introduction of the design they ended up keeping for 2003- but we can get further into that soon. The design in the first image is probably my favorite design for Strawberry, I think I had the sticker set these were from. If so then there's a good chance I either ate them or put them somewhere they were never removed from (this was long before removable/reusable stickers). I love the introduction of more green into the outfit here, I think it's a much needed addition to really evoke 'strawberries'. More importantly, we get Big Hat. The hat is never quite this big again after this, which is a shame. I've always considered it a landmark of her design, so the bigger the better. Everything about this design is delightful.
2003-2007ish: 10/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the design I grew up with! Although I don't find it as aesthetically pleasing, I appreciate the casual denim and the depiction of her that was less "princess". You didn't see a lot of this kind of design at this time- she was kind of a black sheep compared to Bratz and Barbie and other dolls from the same years. The proportions and dumpling head were so so so important. As a kid with a fat little face I never really saw myself in Polly Pocket, but Strawberry was so attainable. The whole outfit is 100% something I would have and could have worn as a kid, and it never really made me feel like I was perpetually underdressed by simply being a child. I didn't watch the TV show, which the more easily animated design in the second image is from, but did read the pictures books that used the design from the first image. I still have 'Strawberry Shortcake and The Friendship Party'.
2007-2009: ???/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2007 through 2009 really act as an artifact of how designs were in a state of flux in the world of children's properties (especially for dolls). Different contexts and purposes and lines of dolls came with their own design variations- and I will not be reviewing each one, but here are three examples. I was a bit old for Strawberry Shortcake at this time and had moved on to Polly Pocket- as such I'm not very familiar with these designs, although I do vaguely remember the first image. Common factors between designs are the longer hair, the pitifully small bow on the hat, and the smoothing out of the dumpling chin. These aren't horrible but they are an unfortunate sign of things to come.
2009-2021: 7/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't hate this one! It's not as good as previous designs but it's very solid, which I have to imagine is why it lasted for over a decade. My only familiarity with this design is seeing the occasional doll when getting gifts for my young cousins or roaming aimlessly down the toy aisle of a store. I really can't say I approve of how she's been slimmed down in the face, and the eyes aren't huge but they're definitely starting to lean towards the "big-eyes-tiny-nose" trend that boomed in popularity with disney-pixar princesses a few years after this design came out (sure she's always had a small nose but at least she used to have the decency of tiny little doll eyes to match). I like the versatility of switching between a skirt and shorts, and her hat is just fine. It's not huge but at least it's a strawberry.
Honorable Mention: Lost Media 2017 Press Release Design: 2/10
Tumblr media
You may have seen this design in posts and articles meant to stir up engagement or clicks, but this design was never actually used! When WildBrain (formerly DHX) bought the brand in 2016/2017, they introduced this design in the form of a press release. There's only a few images of this design in circulation on the internet, as nothing ever came of it, and anything that wasn't in an article about it has been basically scrubbed, so any "then vs now" images or videos that use it are either from a short time after the announcement, or are clickbait. You may have noticed I haven't said anything about the design itself. This is because I don't like it.
2021-current: 5/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually hadn't seen this design until making this post! The design itself is actually okay, but it loses a lot of points for style. -1 point for bigass disney eyes. I've also deducted an extra point for bringing us to a design with completely straight long hair. Every other doll on the market already has straight hair. Bring back her curly short hair. I'm also not a fan of giving her full lipstick. It could be worse but it really doesn't add anything except making elementary schoolers feel like they need to wear makeup. Beanie is back from the abandoned 2017 design, and I don't hate it , but it's a downgrade in my opinion. Like would I buy and wear this hat if i saw it at a thrift store? Yeah. But the big hat was so important. Maybe this is more relatable with the kids. I have literally no way of knowing. One other note I have is that the animation style from the shorts is definitely trying to emulate MLP, specifically Equestria Girls. A quick look at any of the animations in motion make this extremely obvious, especially the way they draw hair and eyes (it's much much much more obvious on other characters).
