Work in progress for tonight!! Trying to draw more character interactions so I thought I’d start with my version of Billy and Freddy!

(Note: not intended to be freebat art. No hate to anyone who ships it, but I see them as brothers even if they’re both adopted :P )

But yeah! Also a refresher for any new people who might see this post: I’m working on writing my own version of the Shazam story. In my version I only have 4 siblings in the Vasquez house from oldest to youngest the order goes Freddy, Mary, Billy, Darla. 💙💛❤️💜

I wanted to finish this sketch tonight but it’s about 1AM rn and I have work tomorrow, so unfortunately I have to wait.

i’ve just seen the fact you’re having/have had to justify the fact you ship freebats (or whatever the ship name is) and tbh i think it’s dumb. freebats could be compared to luther and allison from umbrella academy IF you forget the fact that luther and allison literally grew up together, had the same last name and call each other brother and sister. freddy and billy have NOT grown up together nor have the same last name. i also don’t recall them calling each other brother at ANY point

Yeah, it’s really dumb. It’s just called Freebat, by the way (Freddy Freeman/Billy Batson). But yeah, I don’t get what the issue is at all. And as for Luther/Allison, I don’t personally like that ship much, but mainly cos I really don’t like Luther 😂. But I’m not gonna attack anyone for shipping it. And again, it’s not incest, even if they do share a last name. It could cause some problems if they were legally adopted, but as they’re consenting adults, I really don’t see what the problem is.

And as for Freebat, a) they’re not siblings, b) they don’t share a last name, and c) at no point during the movie do they each refer to the other as “brother”.

Thanks for the support, though to be honest, the antis really don’t bother me that much, and nothing’s gonna sink this ship for me!

Hot take on FreeBat

Hey not to join in on the discourse but throughout the entire movie Billy and Freddy’s relationship progressed in a semi-believable way. From literal strangers (one of whom could care less about the other and is just waiting to uh dip at his next chance, so literally Billy didn’t plan on giving F the time of day huh) to being confidants to being best friends to being like family.

Anyway it all was really heartwarming and fun in general and at the end of the movie I walked out thinking yo it would be cute if people shipped them and when I hopped over to the good ol tumbs I got hit with people really really fukin upset because they’re like Brothers.

I didn’t go into the movie looking to find a romance, but I saw something that could have worked and uh I liked it. Not once did I think they were, u kno, in the whole Family Brother level. I didn’t consider it fukin incest cus they literally just met. They bonded over the superhero thing, and quickly found that the other is worth protection and worry and affection and all that mushy shit

And hopefully I’m not alone in thinking this? My first reaction to seeing their relationship progress was Huh That’s Pretty Goddam Solid. I really really didn’t think of them as Brothers, and I’m pretty :/ about so many people uh forcing the whole Brother thing. Like, they aren’t? So it’s not like, actually bad.

But that’s what I think, and most opposition is looking at all this in a completely different angle and that’s like fine, but I’m just not very liking seeing so much hate on something so new and like, genuinely nice. No matter what people say, I’m still gonna like the couple, but yeah

4. Who is more likely to tell the other a pun and what is the other’s reaction to the pun?

i had the cutest idea for this one

okay so it would 100% be Billy

and it would be like sort of late at night right after his evening patrol when he goes back home and finds Freddy still up reading comics and stuff like that

Freddy would light up at the sound of Billy coming back and immediately bounce up and go to the window

Billy would come in (he’s in his teenage form dw) and they would greet each other with a hug 

Freddy would ask Billy if they could have a date night the next day

Billy smirks and says:

‘Yeah I’m free right after my evening patrol just say the word and i’m yours’

Freddy would immediately turn bright red and be like:

‘Was… was that a Shazam pun?’

Billy would just smirk and wrap his arms around Freddy’s waist and pull him close so that his mouth was by his ear:

‘You are so cute’

Anyways Freddy is now flustered and Billy is an evil smug dork

(they go on a date the next night obviously)

5. When one of them has a bad day, what does the other do to help cheer them up?

so let’s say Billy had a super emergency or something like that

maybe a bus or a train got off track

so in his absence he couldn’t watch for the two bullies that pestered Freddy literally 25/8

so you can probably assume what happens.. 

it is not a very good day for our favorite fanboy

Freddy is forced to walk home all bruised and cut because the bullies beat him and had him there so long he missed his bus

when he gets home Billy isn’t there yet but he can hear the news on the tv talking about how Shazam had saved the day

he goes up to his room, drops his stuff, and goes to the bathroom to kind of try to patch himself up

in the middle of his attempt Billy (in teenage form) walks in

He immediately sees Freddy’s state and takes him in his arms

He whispers to him about how everything would be okay and that he’s sorry he left him

Billy then tends to Freddy’s wounds to the best of his ability (Mary ends up doing it over again and better than him later)

He then takes Freddy back to their room and pulls out his laptop

He tosses Freddy his red hoodie and starts playing the Justice League cartoon

He then proceeds to cuddle and comfort Freddy as an apology and to make him feel better

(the next day Freddy peppers Billy with kisses as a thank you because he is just so grateful and loves him that much)   

8. In a coffee shop AU, who would be the coffee shop employee and who would be the customer?

FREDDY. WOULD. BE. THE. EMPLOYEE.

like i cannot stress it enough

He would 100% work at some superhero themed coffee shop and Billy work come there all the time just for the Shazam themed drink

the drink itself tastes like feet but it’s his merchandise so he has to have it

i don’t wanna get into an entire coffee shop au hc thing but i’ll just put some main points out there

they first became acquainted when Billy ordered for the 3rd or 4th time that week and they started bantering about superheroes

it then just becomes a daily occurrence for both of them 

like at this point he goes there so often that Freddy knows him by name and exactly what he’s gonna order

they are shipped by like all of Freddy’s coworkers and even some of the regulars

they finally start going out when Freddy writes his number on Billy’s cup like four months in (cliche i know but it took them long enough)

then they fall in love, grow old together, and all that good stuff hehe

At this point im so tired to ALWAYS see hate on freebat tag. I go there to find fun contents. I love their friendship and prefer it more than the romantic ship, but I can see most of the people who ship freebat romantically dont ship them as BROTHERS who are in love. They just ship them as TWO TEENAGERS who are in love.

Can't people be open minded enough to see past their bigotted little brains to realize that these two things are VERY VERY different?!?!?

Is it an erasure of what happened in the actual movie? A little bit, yeah. But, guess what??? There are a lot of ships that deviate a little bit from the canon, thats why it's called FANFICTION. It's not like we're threatening the creators of the movie to make them romantically involved in the canon.

And to be honest, i'm starting to think that most of the freebat haters are just plain homophobic because if these were a boy and a girl, more people would have jumped on the ship INSTANTLY. (Im going to get even more hate for this but if the movie were focused on Mary and Billy, people would probably be sleeping on it and dont comment if they become a couple because IT'S BOUND TO HAPPEN).

To name a few ship that i've seen people pointed out having this kinda trope are from the flash, umbrella academy, and the fosters (im sure you know what these ships are).

Also, if you know korean series "Reply" (there are 3 seasons, different stories for each season), the main couple has the same situation where a girl and a boy living on the same house, raised together as siblings, even calling the same parents MOM AND DAD, and they end up MARRIED. The whole theme of these couple is "Yes, we are raised together, but we've seen each other MORE than just brother/sisters". This is a recurring theme on most of these couples like westallen, etc.

I just hate that freebat got treated with double standards just because they are two BOYS. I'm not saying that the creators are setting up this elaborate scenario to make freebat endgame couple in the end, like any other STRAIGHT ship out there, but cant people just have fun on their own??

Most of the reason i see people hating on freebat is because they're kids and they see each other as brothers. Well, hate to break it to you:

1) 14-15 years old are going through puberty, if you think they are not doing anything about that, then you're so naive you should stop going on tumblr altogether. Did you forget they tried their first alcohol in the movie?????? How is that not on your rant and just focus on the possibility they MIGHT feel something for each other????? Plus, im sure freebat shippers know when things are TOO FAR when it comes to these things.

2) Billy👏🏻can👏🏻totally👏🏻see👏🏻Freddy👏🏻as👏🏻more👏🏻than👏🏻just👏🏻brother👏🏻. I see most of the complains come with the forms: "Doesnt matter if they just met for a short time" "doesnt matter if they are not blood related" "doesnt matter if they were not raised together". But guess what?????????? We literally dont know what's going on in his head. Billy spent the entire whole movie hating on the foster group and thinking of running away, and then a glimpse of it spending time as family. Am i saying that it's not possible that Billy see Freddy as just brother? No. He can totally do that. But is it possible that from the first time, BEFORE he accepts all of them as family, he has a little bit of crush on Freddy??? Absolutely. You cant just blindly say he cant do that, because you're just pushing your own believe. And if you think that Freddy doesnt have a BIG crush on Billy before he even turned Shazam, then I dont think we're watching the same movie because that could TOTALLY happen. Freddy even said "And you're my best friend I dont want you to die". See the keyword here??

And, if your argument is based on "if its technically not incest, then its a problem" im saying this again, just incase you dont get it yet, MOST👏🏻OF👏🏻THE👏🏻SHIPPERS👏🏻SHIP👏🏻THEM👏🏻AS👏🏻TWO👏🏻TEENAGERS👏🏻NOT👏🏻BROTHERS👏🏻

i mean i have a stargirl discord server but it's ridiculously inactive bc i guess everyone else went over to this hournite server which i guess must have expanded into a general stargirl server too (kinda like my freebat server maybe? but it's still got an emphasis on ship stuff)

but i don't really care to join bc i've found most hournite shippers to be really isolating and shame anyone who doesn't ship what they do (or really just disagree with them on anything? or, like, think differently than they do when it comes to opinions on the show/characters/ships), so... i guess i'm kinda stuck

i have followed two people on here who share my nice stargirl interest in, well, gay ships (they also just have fun commentary and generally like the same characters i do, but i found them via ship stuff), but i guess with the show on hiatus they don't post about it as much so... yeah

i guess my point is just that i don't love how i've kinda forgotten about the show but i also don't wanna force myself into what would probably be a bad fandom experience

I just wanted to say that I love your tumblr. I can’t believe all the hate your getting. Fanfiction exists for a reason. So we can share our perspective and live out our desires with characters we fell in love with. Like I totally accept that Reddie in the IT fandom is real. I also adore Eddie and write fanfiction about him being straight. Why? Cause I can. Cause it’s fiction. I can do that and still love Reddie. Anyway sorry for my rant I just wanted to encourage you and say I love your stuff!

And yeah, some people seem to love getting upset over stuff that really doesn’t matter. I mean these are fictional characters to begin with, and yeah you make a great point. Fanfiction, as well as fanart etc. and headcanons exist so fans of a work or a character can explore different possibilites and play with the characters. All this doesn’t detract from or affect the canon of a series.

And in my opinion - again, it’s an opinion and people are free to disagree with me - Billy and Freddy make a cute couple, and watching the movie I felt that Freebat made total sense and really worked. But if you prefer to ship Freddy or Billy with someone else, go for it!

Yeah, exactly my point! I know that Freebat isn’t canon - at least not yet - as much as I like it. But I’m not telling anyone they have to ship it, it’s up to each fan what ships - if any - they like.

i'm SO SORRY, anon!!! i think i got these while i was out one night and didn't reply bc i was out and then kept putting it off out of laziness over taking screenshots and yeah. i'm so so sorry i kept putting it off. but i am making up for it now!!! and i may try to respond to each/most of these since there are so many goodies in here!!!

oh gosh them sharing things. yeah, anything either of them owns just belongs to the both of them. like there are just no boundaries anymore, they share it all. it's almost natural bc they're teenage boys and they're the same age so of course they'd share interests and clothes but it makes everyone suspect that they're together and they're just adorably clueless and think nothing of it.

ohhhhhh that snack hc is so cute. yeah they're definitely snacking like all the time but freddy just casually giving billy some chips when he asks???? adorable!!! and making sure billy can read the subtitles while he watches a show or movie???? yes!!!! that's so sweet

akdkaksjd gosh they so WOULD brush their teeth together and try to mess with each other to get as much foam on each other's faces as possible. i can just hear their laughter as they knock into each other and probably end up flicking their wet toothbrushes at each other or straight up squeezing toothpaste out of the tube at each other bc they're that dumb/silly and they ruin their pjs/clothes but it's worth it. (like whoever ends up the cleanest wins and gets to brag about it the rest of the day, lol)

(ahhhhhh they fall asleep cuddling after video games and victor puts a blanket on them, i'm soft)

and that last hc is even softer, oh man!!! yeah they are definitely there for each other for comfort and distractions after rough nights of patrolling.

I just wanted to say thank you for your blog!! I'm kinda happy that there are other people who also ship Freebat (the ship literally hit me on the face while watching the movie and I cannot unsee it, sorrynotsorry) but then I saw many posts saying that it's disgusting and telling people to kill themselves for shipping them (what the hell), so thank you for not taking any shit from anyone :)

Saddest Moment: billy being rejected by marilyn (asher's acting though was 👌👌👌)

Favorite Location: the rock of eternity. it's just cool and mysterious and it was a fully built set and i love all the details that were thrown in like the burning violin (a reference to the comics) and mr. mind's lil glass cage. i can't wait to see the place further explored in shazam 2!
