The Late Shift
Tumblr media
Characters: Paul Sevier x Female Reader
Words: 2k
Warnings/Tags: There’s actually none (I hope). I know. I’m surprised too.
Authors Note: This is so dumb. I’m aware. Look, I’ve been dealing with a horrendous writers block and shattered confidence and I made Paul Sevier gifs to ease my pain. It turned into this. I just wanted to try something a little cute and fluffy to get back into the swing of things. So... here it is.
*
It was going to be a long night.
Stuck on the Wednesday evening shift for the third time this month, you mindlessly fiddled with the pen in your hand. Twirling it between your fingers, your mind drifted away from the present moment, wondering why your boss seemed to dislike you so much to keep you here past 6pm in the middle of the week. He’d always been adamant this was prime selling time for this boutique suit store, with corporate clients needing to do their shopping outside of normal business hours.
You, however, knew keeping this place open was senseless, barely seeing more than a few unenthusiastic customers in these agonizingly slow stretches. Working on commission also made you all the more bitter about being paid minimum wage to stand behind a counter and doodle sketches of imaginary clients dressed in the outfits you personally tailored. This isn’t where you thought a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design would take you, that’s for sure.
“H-hello,” you heard a deep voice quietly greet you, startling you into focus. “Are you busy? I… think I need a little help.”
Eyes flickering up from the notepad, you were sure your pupils blew wide at the sight of the man in front of you. Standing at an imposingly large height, his hair a severely murky shade of black, with honeyed irises shining brightly behind delicate spectacles.
A human personification of tall, dark and handsome. Well, except for the clothes.
The stranger wore the layered combination of a grey tweed jacket and argyle patterned sweater, arranged over a particularly heinous, mustard-coloured button up. While the ensemble made you internally cringe, it gave him an air of intelligence, like the kind that hangs around stuffy, old college professors who have more academic accolades than you have fingers and toes.
“Me?” you coughed out, knowing full well you were the only other person in this tiny little shop. “Uh, yeah. I mean- No, no I’m not busy. What is it you need help with?” Even when you stood, the man towered above you, making you silently begin to calculate the high-numbered measurements you’d need to fit him in something.
“I have an important meeting scheduled for Friday. You know, the type you need to wear a suit to?” Evidently the thought of it made him nervous, as you noticed his cheek twitch slightly, his eyes scanning momentarily at the garments filling the space. “I’m… uh… not so great with clothes.”
Clearly, you chuckled inside your head, holding the word from your tongue. “You want me to pick out something for you?”
He took a defeated breath, his mouth twisting into an awkward yet wonderfully endearing smile. “Would you mind? Only if it’s not too much trouble.”
“No trouble!” you burst, maybe a little too excitedly. “It’s my job!” Bounding out from behind the counter you’d been imprisoned by, you moved directly to the section of classic navy business suits. Slim line. Something to accentuate his well-built frame, rather than hide it away. You had to pause, swivelling back around to the dumbfounded man. “Is price an issue… uh…?”
“Paul,” he answered for you, slowly moving to where you stood. “And… I suppose not. Probably should spend the money on something that will last. If you think it’s a good idea.”
Oh thank god, you mused without showing the relief on your face. He’s not some rich asshole trying to flash his cash. “A good suit can last you five years, if you treat it right.” Your hand reached over to graze one of the deepened blue sleeves of a jacket at your left. “And a classic colour will never go out of style.”
Paul let out an embarrassed chuckle. “I think you’ve already noticed how lacking in style I am…” He glanced to your nametag, murmuring your name with a goofy smirk curling his lips. You’d never seen a grown man, especially not one of this stature, appear so adorable. It was horribly distracting.
“I’m sure you have expertise in other areas,” you stumbled, realizing only when the words came out how offensive they might seem. Yet Paul conceded to your comment, his rumbling laugh making your chest feel tight.
“Debatable,” he shrugged. “I’m just glad I found some qualified personnel to help me in this instance.”
Oh boy. Humble and charming? You were in so much trouble. Surely someone as sweet as this had another waiting for them at home. “I’m sure your partner could help you pick out something nice too.”
“Not an option in my case.”
Shit. Single too. You were truly fucked.
You turned, trying to calm your erratic heartbeat by focusing on finding an outfit that would contain his longer limbs. Plucking out a matching jacket and trouser set, with an ivory, collared button-up, you offered them to Paul, his features having melted into a sweetened look of intrigue. “Go and try these on. There’s a changeroom just behind the counter. See how they feel, and we can go from there.”
He nodded, taking the pieces with both of his large hands and shuffling away to where you’d pointed to. No sooner than the latch had locked were you dashing to where your phone was sitting at the register, flitting out a rushed text message to your favourite co-worker.
Tumblr media
There was rustling you heard emanating from the changeroom stall, doing your best to ignore the urge of picturing Paul, a man you’d met only minutes ago, gradually slipping off his clothes to reveal the toned muscles underneath. You grimaced at yourself, shaking your head to banish the imaginations. God this was unprofessional.
Finally, a response lit up on your phone screen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You laughed softly through your nose, about to type a reply when you heard the lock click open again. The breath in your lungs was stuck as Paul made his way out, the expensive textiles draping over his burly frame in a way that made your whole body tense.
He rustled a hand through his hair, looking up to you while fidgeting with the starchy material stretched over his chest. “Does it look okay?”
After all these years working this job, the enticing novelty of attractive men in well-fitted suits had slowly worn off, especially when most of them treated you with about as much respect as the used gum they spit out onto the sidewalk. Suddenly, all those preconceived notions were gone. On Paul, this ensemble instantly became the most captivating thing in the entire universe.
The inside of your mouth flooded with saliva, having to swallow hard before speaking again. “Great… it looks… great.” You did your best to conceal a settling exhale. “What do you think? How does it feel?”
Paul shifted to look at his reflection in the mirror, pupils trailing up and down, flexing his limbs in an attempt to get a proper impression of the new apparel. “It feels really good. Makes me look… sophisticated.” He turned to you, his expression unsure. “Right?”
Your smile was sparkling, nodding to his question. There was a small amount of work to do, noting how in your effort to make sure everything complemented his physique, you’d oversized him. The waistline of the jacket needed to be taken in, the shoulder lines sitting slightly off, and the trouser length needing to be taken up slightly. “A couple of adjustments and it’ll be perfect.”
“You mean taking it to be tailored?”
“No need.” You pulled out the wheel of berry pins from your pocket, kneeling down on the floor next to Paul’s feet. “All our tailoring is included in the price. Done completely in house.” You began to fold the bottom edge of his pants, pinning it to an adequate length. “I can have it ready for you tomorrow, all ready for your Friday meeting.”
“You do all the tailoring yourself?” Paul asked as you slinked another pin through the fabric.
“Sure do,” you chirped, moving onto the other leg. “3 years at a design school taught me a few things about cutting and sewing.” With the hemlines in place, you straightened in front of him, plucking out a roll of measuring tape from your other pocket. “I just… need to take a few measurements to properly alter the jacket.”
His cheek twitched, the line of his jaw seeming somewhat strained. “Sure. F-fine. Do what you gotta do."
You went with determining his arm length first, feeling out the boney point of his shoulder and striping the lined tape all the way down to his wrist. Then, after taking a deep inhale, you curled your arms around his hips, focusing hard on the little black numbers to ignore the fact Paul’s breath had started to skate over your skin with this close proximity. It was when you were lining up the thickened stripes indicating his chest circumference that you made the mistake of peering up, finding his alluring stare fully concentrated on you.
There was a moment. A spark to waiting kindling. Where impulse could have led you to do a dangerous thing. You’d never been the hasty type, never acted without considerable thought. Usually so shy and composed, never making the first move. Although right now, you could scarcely hold yourself back, desperate to know the sensation of Paul’s lips, how they’d move over yours, what they tasted like.
No. This was so inappropriate.
The compulsion was about to wither away when you felt a hand skim up your waist, the lightened touch shooting a thrill over your skin.
“Excuse me,” a gruff voice called from your side. “How much are these dress socks?”
You immediately stepped back, smacked into reality again. “$12.99. Exactly what it says on the box.”
The older gentlemen scrutinized the packaging, lids narrowed until he finally saw the numbers plastered at the border. “Oh, right. Eh, a little expensive for my taste. Thanks anyway.”
Flustered, you began to coil the measuring tape into its resting spiral, forcefully glaring at the floor. “I’m all done. You can get dressed into your own clothes now.”
In your periphery you saw Paul regarding you with a gentle nod, walking back into the changeroom without another word. Every part of you wanted to sink beneath the wooden floorboards, so horrendously embarrassed you could feel a smoldering heat prickle at your cheeks. Only to relieve some of the nervous energy, you ran to your phone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, Paul was exiting out of the stall just as you were going to submit your reply, placing the neatly arranged garments over the counter. It was difficult to look directly at him, having to summon all remaining shards of your courage to drift your eyes up to his face. “Was there anything else you needed?”
His mouth parted, only to quickly snap shut, scratching at his hairline in the seconds it took for him to give you a response. “No. Nothing else. Unless there’s something more you think I need.”
You shook your head, wishing you could give another answer just to keep him here. “You’re all set.” The full price of his items flashed on the monitor in front of you, spouting it to him as your fingers flicked across the keyboard to finalize the purchase, with a personal discount that wouldn’t show on the receipt.
“When should I come by to pick it up?” he queried, passing you his credit card. “Oh, but there’s no pressure. Whenever you have the time is just fine.”
An idea flared. “If you give me your number, I can text you when it’s ready.”
“That works for me.”
Erasing all evidence of the conversation you’d been having, you brought up the number pad, handing your phone over. Paul swiftly typed in his details before placing it back in your palm. ‘Paul the Suit Guy’ the contact read, unable to stifle your laugh.
“So I’ll see you tomorrow?” His eager expression made your heart quiver through a beat.
“Y-yeah,” you stammered. “I’ll see you then.”
Paul waved his hand in an awkward flourish to signal his goodbye, eventually moving far enough from your vision for you to finally take a full, relaxed breath. In a dazed hurry, you keyed in your returning message to your co-worker.
Tumblr media
It was the precise moment your thumb had pressed into the ‘Send’ button that you realised your recipient wasn’t the one you’d intended.
You’d sent this message straight to Paul.
Fuck. Oh fuck. This was bad.
While you were scrambling to formulate a believable excuse, a new message popped up onto the screen.

Tumblr media
A/N: (Idk why I put this gif but i couldn’t find one with all of class 1-A.) This one is a little longer than I anticipated but I got it done at least lol. I took longer with this one since I really didn’t want it to seem rushed, but all my stuff looks rushed anyways. I included text photos, so if they don’t load for you I’m real sorry :( enjoy!
Word count: 7274 (give or take a few words because of the text photos)
Paring: Kirishima x Reader
Warnings: Obvious pairing (so obvious it’s disgusting), swearing, fluff, and terrible writing.

Chapter 5: A Taste of Normal (Mostly)
The very next day, Midoriya texted you saying that he would take you to a supermarket to buy necessities as promised. You dressed in your ripped jeans from yesterday and a hoodie you packed over a tank top, not feeling like trying too hard with your appearance today. You threw your hair into a ponytail and let a few strands down to frame your face.
You pulled on your sneakers at the front of the apartment and opened the door, just in time to see the green-hair student about to knock. Behind him stood Bakugo and Kirishima. The blonde had his usual scowl on his face while Kirishima had the exact opposite. Grinning, you waved at the shark-toothed redhead as you walked out the door and locked it behind you.
“Good morning, are you guys joining us?” You asked.
Bakugo sighed and turned to walk down the hallway. “Why else would we be here dumbass?”
You furrowed your brows and looked at Kirishima. “Dumbass? I don’t know what that means…”
Midoriya nervously chuckled and answered, “Don’t worry about it.”
The three of you got to the supermart in a few minutes. In those few minutes, Midoriya spoke to you and Kirishima while Bakugo just tagged along. Even if he was a prick, you didn’t want him to feel left out so you tried to include him into conversations. In just a matter of a few attempts, he went from one-worded answers to sentences. In your eyes that was a pretty good accomplishment.
Walking in, Kirishima was the one to grab a cart and lead the way to the grocery section. “So (L/n). What do you need?”
At that moment you realized you didn’t really know what you’d be needing. Considering you would only be at U.A for a few months and if things go well, well you didn’t know what after that. You thought for a second.
Considering the apartment already had furniture, and certain appliances like a broom, a mop, and a few hangers for your closet. You would definitely need soap and detergent and basic food supplies.
Bakugo began to open his mouth to tell you to hurry up before you blurted, “I don’t really know.”
The red-head chuckled and put a hand on your shoulder. “It’s okay, we can help with that. What do you normally eat in a day? We can start with food.”
“I think there's eggs and milk over there behind the vegetables.” Midoriya cut in.
At that, the three of you filled the cart with a variety of food that you could combine for any meal of the day. Surprisingly, Bakugo was the one picking out most of everything. When you questioned it, Kirishima was the one to answer.
“Bakugo likes to cook! Don’t tell him but I usually just stick around his place in order to eat something other than takeout.” He whispered the last bit. You giggled and motioned a zipper to your lips as you all kept walking. Pretty soon the cart was half full and you were satisfied with whatever you got.
To your dismay, Bakugo barked at you when you tried to put a lot of candy in the cart as well. Mostly stuff that looked interesting, even if you didn’t know what it was you still wanted to try it. After the third attempt of swiping candy, Bakugo stopped the cart.
“Look, we don’t know each other basically at all. Whatever. That’s fine. But if you don’t cut you shit right now I’m beating the fuck out of you in training.” He snapped. You were cackling and shoved your hands into your pockets and nodded your head.
The hot-headed blonde looked at the red-head and pointed at you. “Shitty hair, make sure she keeps her hands to her damn self.”
The latter put his hand to his head in a mock salute. He looked at you and winked before reaching behind him and snatching a candy bar, making you giggle for a second time.
You looked at Midoriya who laughed nervously before placing a hand on Bakugo. “Kacchan, let’s not make a scene here yeah?”
“Oh shut it, Deku.”
After you paid for the groceries (which Midoriya claimed All Might would pay for and fucking did before you could deny) the boys helped you put the groceries into the fridge and cabinets. Cereals, cookies (healthy ones, courtesy to Bakugo…), protein bars (in case you woke up late for school and needed to eat something according to Kirishima), and everything else was put away in a matter of minutes.
“Okay! Looks like that’s everything!” Midoriya chirped. You sighed and bowed your head in thanks. You just didn’t understand how these three were so nice (yes even Bakugo, considering he was pretty rude the first time you met). In Republic City, you’d be on your own from the gecko if you didn’t know anyone there or if you didn’t have a reason to be there other than work. When you first got to the United Republic, Saik was the only one to treat you as a friend and not the Avatar before you met Yuma and Ryo. And Ailani was the first girl to really be friends with you and not the Avatar.
Midoriya’s phone rang suddenly which brought you out of your thoughts.
“Hello? Oh, Good Morning Aizawa Sensei!”
From your point of view, you witness his brows furrow as he glanced at you. You were unable to hear what your future teacher was saying through the phone.
The rest of you looked at the boy as he looked at Bakugo. “I’m with (L/n) right now. Did you want us to bring-”
Midoriya stopped talking and widened his eyes. “Uh...Yes, Bakugo is here. Did you want us to go right now or-?”
Midoriya tapped the back of his hand against Bakugo’s chest then made a quick motion with his thumb. As if he was asking him to leave.
You pressed your lips together, casting your eyes down and fiddling with your fingers. ‘Something’s wrong.’ You thought.
“Yeah, we can meet there. But, Kirishima is here too.”
The red-head student’s eyebrows raised as he was now included in the conversation that even he didn’t know about.
You watched as the Midoriya hung up the phone and looked to Bakugo. “Aizawa wants to talk to us. Er...something about a case All Might had been working on for our work studies in the future.”
You frowned again. “Work studies?” You asked.
“They’re short internships you get with heroes. It’s actually pretty cool. You might be able to join one this year!” Kirishima answered.
“Ooooh!” You looked at Midoriya with a smile. “Can I come with you? I wanna know what-”
“S-sorry, (Y/n). It’s a topic sensitive case. Only the ones involved can know about it.” he interrupted.
Bakugo sighed and turned to walk out of the apartment. “Well. Come on shitty Deku. We’re wasting time.”
“Right!” Before Midoriya followed he brought his attention to you again. “Do you mind if Kirishima hangs out with you for some time? Just so you won’t be lonely?” He asked.
Kirishima stuttered as he tried to claim that he could go with the pair to the school until Midoriya gave him a serious pointed look.
Kirishima held the gaze for a short second before nodding. “Y-yeah...I don’t mind.”
Midoriya nodded and bid you farewell before running out your door.
You turned to the redhead and gave another tight-lipped smile. “You really don’t have to stay. It’s okay.”
“No, no. I don’t really mind. Hey! I know!”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. “Why don’t we go back to the store and get those snacks you wanted to try? I’ll show you my favorites and we can like watch a movie-”
After seeing the surprised look on your face, he blushed and began retracting his words. “Unless-unless you don’t wanna...I mean that’s cool too we can like do other...stuff.”
You laughed and waved your hand. “I don’t mind. Let’s do it!”
The two of you left the apartment again and began to walk into the city. The first stop was the supermarket again as you fill a basket with sweets, chips, and drinks.
A vibrate from your phone caught your attention from your laughter after Kirishima tried opening a packet of candy, only for it to rip entirely and have then scattered everywhere. You reached and lifted the screen to your face.
Quite a few messages filled the lock screen of your phone and you grimaced at the thought of your friends from home getting mad at you for not answering for a while.
The boys would go crazy, Saik wouldn’t care but would definitely kick your ass if you were gone for too long or left him on read, and Ailani...Well, last time you didn’t answer her Saik learned a lot about your secret activities when you would sneak out at night to hang out with her.
Kirishima saw you tense up and side elbowed you to grab your attention. “Everything okay?”
“Y-yeah. I just completely forgot to text my friends after I let them know I got here. I’m gonna get an earful for sure.”
You swiped at the screen and opened the group chat first.
Multiple grey bubbles appeared one after another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirishima was looking over your shoulder and snorted. “It seems like they just care about your safety.” He looked at his own phone and noticed the time. “Wow, it’s been four hours already.”
You frowned and looked at him. “Midoriya and Bakugo have been gone for that long?”
“I guess so,” He looked up to the sky. A concentrated look on his face while his eyes filled with worry. He then looked at you with a semi smile. “I told him I wouldn’t just leave you alone till he gets back though. So uh...What do you wanna do?”
 “I’m not really sure.”
With a hum and a few minutes to think, Kirishima snapped his fingers. “Fine then how about I take you to the arcade then? I’ll win for sure but, at least it’s fun.”
You rose your brows and wrinkled your nose. “Wanna bet, shark-boy?”
Tumblr media
“What the actual hell?!” The red-head groaned.
You cackled and lowered the laser gun that was pointed at the screen ahead of you. “Man, I think I’m just that good huh?”
Kirishima frowned and looked at you. “This is stupid. You’re cheating somehow I know it.”
“Aww is the big hero sad?” You teased as you put the fake weapon back in its slot. The two of you moved on to let other kids have a turn at the game.
“I’m not sad. I’m rusty okay? I haven't been here in like two weeks.” he muttered.
“Wow, that's so funny cause I haven't been here since ever.”
“Oh ha ha ha.”
Giggling you lightly poked his cheek and looked around for another game to play, unbeknownst to the flustered stare given to you by the boy next to you.
In the midst of looking around, you spotted a blonde boy waving in your direction, who was accompanied by two others. One of them was a girl with pink hair and skin. You didn’t know if it was because you were so far away or if your eyes were being affected by the dimly lit room with neon lights flashing every now and then but the girl’s eyes seemed to be completely black.
The other next to them was another boy with long dark hair. His eyes were wide, but it seemed like it was only his natural eye shape along with his wide, triangular smile. His elbows seemed to be larger under his jacket the closer the trio got to the two of you.
You tapped Kirishima as you stood behind him, grabbing his attention and pointing to the three you noticed. When you saw him relax and give you a smile, you too let your tense body loosen.
“Yo, Kiri! I didn’t know if you were free. Otherwise, we would have invited you bout an hour ago.” The blonde one said. He looked at you and winked. “And who might you be, pretty lady?”
You stood a little straighter and held your hand out. “I’m (Y/n) (L/n). Nice to meet you.” You said.
“You’re not from around here are you?” The black-haired one asked.
“No, I’m from the United Republic. I’m a new student at U.A.”
Kirishima was the one to introduce everyone. “These are good friends of mine. Kaminari, Sero and Mina. They’re also in the hero course.”
You nodded and gave a small smile to the trio. Mina squealed and clasped her hands together. “That’s so neat! We could use another girl, the whole class is filled with these guys.” She rolled her eyes. You snorted and stepped to lean closer to her. “You seem like the type to go to if anything goes wrong.”
Mina responded with a nod and a giggle. “Oh, you betcha.”
“Hey, (Y/n), I can call you that right?” You nodded at the dark-haired student. “We were about to get something to eat if you are hungry. There’s a sushi place like a block away if you're down to go.”
You looked at Kirishima and tilted your head. “I’m game if you are.”
Kirishima gave a crooked smile, holding an arm out for your smaller yet muscled arm to grab (which you did.)
Tumblr media
Getting to the sushi place was full of laughter as Kaminari would not shut his damn mouth. Sero would say something and Kaminari would reply with something stupider than before. Once you all got into the restaurant, Kirishima took one corner and you took the other to his left, sharing your side with Mina.
“In the mood for anything specific?” The pink female asked. You looked at the menu, desperately reading as fast as you could while trying to see if anything held anything bad.
A clearing of a throat interrupted you.
“If you want you can just get whatever I’m getting. Since you don’t know the place.” Kirishima offered. To which you nodded in relief.
Sero snorted and nudged at Kaminari. “You're still paying for my food after I saved your ass from Aizawa for skipping curfew.”
The blonde sighed and muttered out an “I know, I know.”
Once your food came, Kaminari was the one to ask what your quirk was.
“I can control the elements.”
Denki perked up at the comment. “Like how? I’ve heard of people with fire quirks dealing with lightning! You think if I zapped you you’d be affected?” He reached over to poke your body before Sero lifted his jacket sleeve and taped his arms to his body.
“Let’s not do that yeah?”
You giggled as the blonde tried to tear his way out, only for him to fall off of his chair and hit the ground with a groan.
Kirishima sighed and stood from his chair to pick up his friend and set him to his right.
“I don’t think that’s how it works, Kaminari.” You rose your fingers and twiddled them towards his direction. “The worst that would do is that I’d transfer the shock right back to you.”
Finally, you popped a roll into your mouth and hummed in satisfaction.
You turned to Mina who smiled widely at you in return before handing you a napkin.
“They’re good right? Kirishima swears they’re the best in the world by themselves, but I like mine with a little bit of ginger.” She stated. The girl then grabbed a roll from her plate and offered it to you, her hand under the chopsticks as to catch any falling ingredients. “Here. Try it!”
You tilted your head and took the roll with your fingers before eating the roll whole. You giggled and nodded your head at Mina, clasping your hands together. “It’s really good!” You sighed. Looking towards Kaminari, you grabbed one of your rolls and held it in from of him. “Here, since you’re stuck and you can’t really move.”
You attempted to share your food with the blonde next to Kirishima, given as he couldn’t use his hands. Mina was laughing right next to you as Kaminari dropped the roll to the table with a loud “Aw!”
Kirishima smiled at your innocent face, staring as it held nothing but happiness and excitement for something as simple as going to the arcade and eating with friends. Something so mundane. Something so...normal.
Soon, the four of you finished and paid for the meal. You bid the trio farewell (Mina hugging you with as much affection as she could muster). Kirishima, being the gentleman he is, walked you back to the complex.
A buzzing cut the comfortable silence in the air as the boy reached to pull it out. He took one look at the caller I.D. before answering quickly and putting the call on speaker.
“Midoriya? You’re on speaker.”
The sigh that left the other line of the phone made you furrow your brows. “What is it?” You asked.
“We were knocking on your door for half an hour (Y/n)! You guys didn’t say anything about going out!” The boy complained. You could see the exhausted look on the freckled face which in return made you feel bad.
“Sorry! We weren’t planning on it, it just kinda happened…”
“Yeah well, you might want to check your phone, you idiot. Aizawa got a call from some dude named Kanto? Said his nephew tried calling your phone and you wouldn’t answer. Aizawa would’ve been freaking out too if one of the Heroes hadn’t mentioned seeing you with shitty hair.” Bakugo interrupted.
You gasped and felt your pockets for your phone. You quickly swiped it open to see multiple messages from your friends and missed calls from the twins and Saik.
“Ohhhh I’m FUCKED!” You whined
Kirishima knitted his brows and looked over your shoulder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirishima let out a low whistle. “Wow. Your friends are a little more like parents don’t ya think?” He asked.
With a groan, you pouted and looked into red eyes. “In Republic City, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to answer our phones to each other unless we were training or doing something together. Even if there are a few minutes of a gap. Call it being clingy but that’s how we show we’re there for each other. I’ll never be late for a message. Calls...that’s another story.”
Midoriya’s voice spits through the speakers of the phone. “Well, we’re back now, where are you?”
You looked at your surrounding before recognizing the three buildings in front of you, as well as a boy with the famous red shoes.
“Literally walking towards the entrance of the complex.”
Izuku turned to look at the voice from behind, seeing you and Kirishima walking towards him.
“Oh!” The greenette hung up the phone as he tapped Bakugo and pointed in your direction.
“About fucking time. Hurry up I’m tired dammit.” The blonde shouted.
Kirishima huffed and sped ahead of you, punching the shoulder of his hot-headed friend. “Hey keep it down would you?” He sighed.
Izuku looked at you and dropped his head back, his jaw-dropping in a silent groan. “I can’t take him anywhere.”
He perked his head up and put his arm around yours. “Well, I guess this is it for tonight. We’ll see you guys at school.” he said to the boys as he began to pull you away.
You giggled and turned to look at Kirishima. He looked as if he was pouting at your retreating figure and turned to follow Bakugo to his house before his face snapped back to you as you called his name.
“Thanks for the night! I had fun!”
Those words were all that was needed to perk his mood up tenfold, quickly jogging to catch up to his friend.
You bid Midoriya a goodnight before closing the door behind you. The darkroom was surprisingly not bothering you considering you hated the dark. Turning on a light anyways, you stretched your arms out with a groan.
After taking off your shoes, you checked your phone again to see a message from Saik.
Tumblr media
You gasped and quickly began typing on your keypad, hurrying over to your room to charge your phone.
Saik of all people knew just how to get you to respond or admit to something. A true curse you had to deal with whenever you were being distant. Something he never allowed to go too far if he could stop it.
Tumblr media
After sending the plead, you placed your head on you pillow and payed attention to the fan above you. Smiling to yourself, you began giggling over the little things that your brain decided to look back on.
‘If this is what normal is, can I please stay here?’
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the boys were still on their way to Bakugo’s house. There was a comfortable silence for a bit of time. Until Bakugo broke it.
“She’s got you all gooey and shit eh?”
Kirishima rose his brows at the question. “Huh?”
Bakugo turned to look at him, his hands interlocked behind his head. “What are you? Stupid or deaf? You like the new girl. Hasn’t even been a week.”
Kirishima rolled his eyes and stuffed his hands in his pockets. “So what? You can like cute girls. That’s how attraction works.”
The blonde let out a scoff. “A normal attraction is when you like how they look from afar then you ask em on a date. You don’t just stay in a chick's house on a first date and then take her out to meet friends for a second one. Unless your Kaminari.” At that, the red-haired boy laughed.
“Look all I’m saying is that she seems nice but you shouldn’t try to have a thing with her.” Bakugo continued.
Kirishima rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. “Why? Cause we don’t know her? Man, you just don’t like new people-”
“That’s not what I mean.”
Bakugo stopped walking and dropped his arms to the sides of his body.
He turned and looked at his fellow classmate and sighed.
“I got the all-clear to tell you what happened. Why me and Deku went to go talk to those pro-heroes.”
At this point, Kirishima looked around to check if anyone was around to hear, only to realize they were finally in front of the Bakugo household.
“She’s just here to get extra training. After three months she’s gonna be gone.”
The sharp-toothed boy let out a dry laugh. “What?”
“She’s not known because the city she’s from is the only place she protects. Once she turns 18 she's allowed to roam and be better known. Until then it’s just her city and other allies of the United Republic she helps.”
“So what does that have to do with-?”
The blonde stepped closer, groaning. “I’m getting there, shitty hair.”
He leaned on the side of the wooden fence by his mailbox. “(L/n)’s dad was attacked last night.”
It was like the air suddenly got heavier. A suspenseful fog that was confusing Kirishima even more than before. You didn’t seem upset. You didn’t seem sad. Was that why your friends were trying to contact you?
“She doesn’t know. They don’t want her to know. The only ones that know are us three, All Might and Aizawa, the principal, Endeavor and half n’ half, and the rest of her teachers back at her home. Her siblings nor her friends know either-”
Letting out a rather loud, “Then why the hell are you tellin me?!”, he was hissed at to keep his mouth shut.
“Maybe if you stop fucking interrupting you’d fuckin know!”
An apology left the redhead’s lips as he motioned for Bakugo to continue. “A group called the “White Lotus,” asked for people on the inside to keep an eye on her. The people that attacked her dad just did something to him and left. They want a group to look out for her. By that they mean students. Think about it, why else haven't I intimidated her to fight me yet?
“Now look, here’s what the plan is. You, me, Deku and half n’ half are gonna be her little bodyguard gang. But we’re given rules. No fighting. We’re supposed to be her friends in this case. In public, we can’t let her be on her own.              She’s gonna be paired with at least one of us. That’s why she’s right next to Deku’s place. Walls are kinda thin, he can hear loud noises if something’s wrong.”
Bakugo then pointed an accusing finger at Kirishima.
“Don’t go blabbing your mouth to anyone either. We can’t let her know what we’re doin. According to one of the teachers, the last time her friends tried something like this she went crazy and went on her own to do something stupid.”
“Why am I a part of this then?” Kirishima asked. “You guys are the top three.”
“Deku mentioned how he left you at her place to keep an eye on. You were doing our job already. We just added that you should keep doing it.”
“Okay so...brushing all that aside. Why can’t I be friends with her?”
Bakugo rolled his eyes and grabbed the rock quirked teen by the shoulder. “That’s just it shitty hair. You don’t wanna be friends with her. If what the heroes said is true, then you’re gonna be mopey and shit once she leaves. And really I don’t want to deal with that sappy crap. You call that manly?”
“Hey! Nothing in unmanly about showing emotion.” Kirishima cried out. He knows Bakugo means well though. He’s most likely referring to the last time he got rejected by Mina. Granted their relationship wasn’t ruined, it stayed the same actually. In fact, they got closer. But that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt for a while.
Bakugo turned to open the front door to his home. “All I’m saying is if you wanna pursue, then be my fucking guest. It’s up to her anyways. But in three months, she’ll be gone. She’s gonna have to go back to her own responsibilities. I don’t want you to think you can argue for her to stay and then be depressed when you can’t convince her.”
Kirishima rubbed the back of his neck and forced a small groan out of him. “I got it! I got it. You know you’re such a damn mom with this crap.” He said. “If all I got is three months then dammit I’m gonna make it the best three months of her life.”
Bakugo rose his brows at the claim. “You do realize she’s our age with a powerful quirk making a damn good name of herself right? I doubt dating some idiot would be the best thing to happen to her.” He laughed.
“Hey! that’s so uncalled for!” Kirishima whined. “How about we call it a night? I’ll leave before noon, don’t worry. Wouldn’t want to deal with your crankiness when you don’t get your afternoon nap.”
“Okay, you know what shitty hair- I hope she leaves you in the dust.” The blonde snarled as he rubbed his fist into his friend’s hair.
Even with that comment, a small warm feeling appeared in his chest and a smile adorned the redhead’s face.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you woke up Monday morning, the first thing you did was text the group that you weren’t going to be on your phone all day. Which brought you a lot of “Have a good day at school” and “Stay away from strangers” and as well as Ryo sending various hearts in various colors.
You rubbed your eyes and stood up in the cold room to look for your stuff. The cold hardly bothered you, as you learned how to stay warm with your breathing from your step-mom after a harsh winter back in California. The only thing that made it hard for you was the constant shivering of your legs after your bare feet were on the wooden floor for too long.
You never really outgrew the habit of walking around without shoes.
After taking a shower, you dried yourself off as best as possible and changed into your uniform. You straight-up left the tie, not want to deal with it at all.
Looking in the mirror, you definitely did not recognize yourself. It was like you were a whole new person.
You smiled at the mirror and twirled around in your new uniform. Your eyes lowered to your arms at your side.
They didn’t need arm wraps for waterbending training today, you didn’t have little bandages over your fingers from firebending today, your fingernails didn’t have dirt under them from earthbending today, and your face was more...at ease because you didn’t have to worry about that stressful airbending thing that Hiroshi had you go through as soon as you woke up. You felt relaxed and calm. But still excited for your new school.
Going to school was something you tried twice. Once when you were six and again when you were fourteen. Even though the air nomads taught you how to keep peace within you and others, your temper got the best of you and you got yourself kicked out of middle school after trapping a group of girls in a bathroom stall with no way out after some words were exchanged.
You got an earful from your parents and Hiroshi when they found out. And when Hiro Sato caught wind of the situation? Waterbending training was stricter and Saik nearly lost his mind after finding you beaten and bruised after a session with his dad.
After that, Saik was the one who would train you.
Quickly, yet efficiently, you braided back your (h/c) hair and lighting pulling out some strands to frame your face.
A knock at the door caught your attention and you slid down the hallway to answer in your socks.
Your favorite greenette greeted you with a smile and a steamed bun stuffed in his mouth, holding one up for you to take. Bakugo was already munching on his own bun. “My mom made these for us yesterday so they were ready for us in the morning. Have you had one?” Midoiya asked as you let them inside. “I can’t say I have, but I most likely did. They just look different in the Republic.”
As you turned back around to the living room to get your school bag, Bakugo called out.
“Hurry up we ain’t got all day new girl.”
You secured your bag on your side and checked for your phone in your pockets. After locking the door, you took a deep breath and followed the pair on route to the school.
While walking, you noticed a familiar red-headed boy heading your way. You smiled and cupped your hands around your mouth. “Kirishima!”
The boy looked up and saw your figure waving at him between Midoriya and Bakugo. He rose his own hand to wave at you and lightly jogged over.
“Good morning fair lady, good sir, Bakugo-”
“Oi-”
“How’d you sleep?” Kirishima ignored the hot-headed student as he stood to the other side of Midoriya.
“Fairly well. Felt like I wasn’t gonna get any sleep at all though. Probably because I was excited.”
Izuku was the one to chuckle. “You’ll like it I promise. Hey, let me see your schedule.”
He held his hand out for the paper you pulled out of your skirt pocket. “Oh! We have English together with All Might! Looks like you got stuck with Kacchan for math.”
Bakugo snatched the paper out of Midoriya’s hand. “You got me and half n’ half for social studies. Hope you know our history around here.”
“Kacchan? Half n’ half?” You asked Kirishima. “Nicknames. I’ll point them to faces when you meet them I promise. Kacchan is Bakugo’s nickname from Midoriya.” he laughed as Bakugo reached out to pinch him, telling him “Don’t fuckin tell her that.”
Once you all got to the building, you switched your shoes and headed inside as the bell rang.
The four of you walked into class and the three boys went to sit down.
You looked around the class to see multiple eyes staring at you. At least you recognized some of the faces there from Midoriya’s and Bakugo’s group.
“You’re right on time. I was about to introduce the new students. Take a seat.” Aizawa said. He motioned for you to stand next to another boy in the front, one with lavender hair and tired eyes.
When you moved, you locked your fingers together in front of you, after pocketing your schedule.
“All right. Welcome back, everyone. I trust you’ve noticed quite the difference in your schedules. For one thing, you each have a free period. That isn’t so you can roam around. This is just an extra hour given to the hero course so we can train longer.”
A series of groans admitted from the group of students in front of you.
“Quiet. In case you haven’t noticed, you’re all in the middle of your high school years. You’ll get to work with other heroes for real at this point considering you all have a hero license.”
Aizawa looked at you and the unfamiliar student before muttering “Introduce yourselves, but try to make it short. Tell us your name, and your quirk.”
You looked at the boy next to you and pointed back and forth between the two of you. He placed a hand on his chest and held a hand up, offering himself to speak first. “I’m Shinsou Hitoshi. Most of you know me already from the sports festival. My quirk is brainwashing, which means I can control anyone if they respond to me with an answer to any question I ask.”
You tilted your head in curiosity. “Wow…That’s neat.” You said quietly. The surprised look on Shinsou’s face told you he heard you and you began to wave your hand. “Sorry…”
Clearing your throat you looked at the class and clasped your hands in front of you. “Hi, I’m (F/)... er (L/n)(F/n). I’m not from here as you can probably guess.” A bit of laughter surrounded you as you rubbed the back of your neck with a sheepish smile. “Uh, anyways. I can control the elements.”
Aizawa spoke up before anyone else could. “Given that most of you have been gone and most likely not training, we’ll be heading to the field to do the exercises from last year. We’ll meet outside in fifteen minutes.” He then looked at you. “(L/n) your gym clothes are already placed in your locker. I suggest you take the code off of the back of the lock so nothing gets stolen.”
When you nodded, he turned and walked out of the room. Sero was the first to stand up, Denki following. “Aw man...and here I thought we’d get to chill inside with the air conditioning.”
You looked at the lavender haired boy and reached your hand out. “Nice to meet you.” You said.
He looked at your hand, giving you a cautious look before grabbing your hand as well. “Likewise.”
“Hey, (F/n), you comin?” Mina asked from behind you, as the other students began to file out of the room.
You nodded and turned to give a two-finger salute to the lavenderette as well as the famous big toothy grin before running out.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The fabric of the gym uniform was surprisingly comfortable. For one thing, you didn’t feel the need to scratch every few minutes like the training clothing back at the Republic. They only thing that bothered you was the restriction of the pants. You didn’t mind them much, but you missed the bagginess of the bottoms you wore when airbending with Hiroshi’s son. No matter. You’d make do.
*Ball throw*
“All right. For the new ones who don’t know the drill, this experiment is to see what levels of strength you have in certain exercises such as throwing, running, etc. We’ll all take turns. Bakugo. You’re up.”
One after another, you got to see everyone’s quirk in action. Unfortunately for some, their quirk doesn’t affect their strengths, which means they could only manage an average throw.
“(L/n), you’re up.”
You stepped into the white circle and caught the little ball that was tossed to you.
“Uh…Does it matter what I do?” You ask.
Aizawa waved his hand. “Just use whatever you feel will be the most effective. Now hurry up. You’re wasting time.”
You nodded and looked to your hand before getting into a position. This one was taught to you by Ryo, after he wanted to play a game he dubbed ‘Rock Ball Bounce’. You would use the bounciest ball and kick up pillars and slabs of stone to keep the ball in the air, only allowing it to bounce once.
With a deep breath, you bent your knees and tossed the ball into the air above you, sending a blast of air after it so it can go higher, and fall faster. Snickering could be heard behind you as you waited for the ball to come down.
“Uh, new girl? The ball is supposed to be thrown in front of you.” Denki called.
“I know.” You smiled at him. You very faintly felt the waves that the wind of the falling ball was producing on the sides of your head and your neck. If you just waited for the right moment…
‘Now!’
With a turn of your body and quick tap to the earth with your right foot, you swung it just in time for a slanted pillar of rock to hit the ball back into the air and away from you. The pressure sent it far enough that you lost sight of it. You lifted your leg in a straight, upward position, and brought it back down. Making the pillar retreat to its flat nature in the ground.
You turned to Aizawa, who held the measurement device. Without a word, he smiled and turned the device to you as you walked to stand next to Mina and Ochaco.
“784.3 meters. Not bad kid.”
The girls gasped and shook your shoulders as you smiled with glee.
“Alright! Next test. 50-meter run.”
*50-meter run*
“You guys are gonna race one another. So be ready and get into two lines.”
The class followed what was said and stood beside one another. In front of you, Midoriya was against Bakugo. Then it was Kirishima against Denki, Shinsou against Ochaco, Mina against Sero, Tsuyu against Todoroki, and You against Iida.
After not even twenty minutes, it was your turn.
“Alright. On your mark.”
You bent your knees and sucked in a breath. “Good luck.” Iida murmured.
“Get set.”
“Likewise.” You exhaled.
“Go!”
You hopped forwards and crossed your legs in a sitting formation in the air, forming a whirling ball of wind right under you as you ‘landed’ and quickly caught up with Idia.
You two were neck and neck until he blasted further ahead, leaving you behind. You groaned and closed your eyes. Trying to focus on the Avatar state to give you some kind of energy boost, but alas, you still haven’t gotten to that stage quite yet.
Idia finished first in 3.04 seconds, while you finished in 4.02 seconds.
You rolled the wind orb under you, hopping off as the wind-dispersed. “Dammit, I really thought I had it.” You sighed. Idia laughed and slapped your back, making you jerk forward and yelp. “Good race, (L/n)!” he said.
You gave a sheepish grin and stretched your back, walking over to Kirishima. “Ow.”
Kirishima laughed and put an elbow on your shoulder, leaning to you. “Gotta be quicker than that, (L/n).”
“Oh yeah? How fast did you run huh?”
“Oh, that’s not important right now.”
“I’m sure it’s not pretty boy, I’m sure it’s not.” You said as you walked away to follow the group to the next activity, leaving Kirishima laughing at your retreating form.
*Grip strength*
The next test you thought was going to be your weakest one. You wouldn’t deny though, just how impressed you were with Shijo’s grip on the mechanical grip tool.
‘540.0 kg?!’ You thought. Figuring it was because of his crazy arms, you huffed and pouted to yourself. ‘I’m gonna be the weakest one. How uncool.’
“(L/n).”
You dropped your arms and walked to Aizawa. Reaching your hand out, you grasped onto the bar and squeezed as tight as you could. You could feel the metal surrounding it and thought of something.
Taking a deep breath, you focused on the pieces of earth in the metal and tightened the rod without Aizawa noticing. As the numbers continued past 50 kg, your brow raised.
“Alright. 70.6 kg.” Aizawa stated as you quickly reverted the rod back to its original form.
You felt a pat on your back and turned to see Kirishima grinning at you with a thumbs up.
“Not bad, new girl,” Bakugo smirked.
You puffed your chest and smiled widely. ‘This is easier than I thought it’d be.’
*standing long jump*
The class stood to the side of a rather longish sandbox. Aizawa had mentioned the goal here was to get over the whole box. At first, you thought it didn’t look like much, especially since Bakugo and Kirishima cleared it like nothing. However, when you got the other end, you realized just how long it was.
“Let’s try a different one (L/n), your teachers back home want you to be able to use all of your abilities.” You heard Aizawa murmur behind you.
With pursed lips, you swung your arms back and bent your knees, ready to shoot off from your toes. Gathering enough heat right under you, you launched forward and maneuvered your feet in front of you with your firebending like a rocket. Similar to what you saw Bakugo do in the fifty-meter dash. You managed to clear the box before your excitement got the best of you and your left foot skid over the dirt, causing you to slide and land on your back with a yelp.
The rest of the class laughed and giggled as you stood, quickly brushing off your pants and tucking loose strands of hair behind your ears.
“I uh...meant for that to happen.” You lied as you went to stand next to Mina.
“It’s okay, (Y/n) we believe you even if it’s not true.” She teased.
You looked at Aizawa with a faint redness to your cheeks. He looked at you with an irked stare before talking.
“(L/n), maybe you should focus on the performing moves from start to end instead of giving up in the middle. Just because you manage to get the results you wanted, doesn’t mean you’re done.”
You pressed your lips together and bowed your head. A habit you had after getting scolded by Saik’s dad, Hiro.
“Use your words, (L/n). We’re not in Republic City here.”
You shot up, vaguely seeing a smirk on the teacher’s face before he turned and called everyone to line up next to each other.
“Right. Sorry about that.”
You smirked yourself before feeling another hand on your back. You looked to see Kirishima holding his fist to you. Giggling, you bumped yours against his and followed the rest of the class to line up.
The rest of the class involved more exercise like sit-ups, repeated side steps, and a distance run. When you got your results on the total you were amazed to see you got fifth, right after Iida. Shinou managed to score the eleventh ranking.
“Alright. Congrats on your results. Go back and get changed, we’ll meet back in the classroom to discuss what will happen in the coming week.” Aizawa said as he turned to walk inside.
Kirishima nudged your arm, gaining your attention. “Well? How’re you liking your first day?”
You crossed your arms, walking along with him while remaining a fair distance from the group. “I’m not gonna lie,” You looked at him and flashed your famous, toothy grin. “It’s pretty cool.”
