The KOSA bill, what it's going to do if passed, and how you can help prevent it from taking effect

KOSA will essentially erase anonymity from the internet by requiring people to upload their government ID or other form of identification to any social media site, as well as restricting resources and information on LGBT rights, history, racism, and more. This bill will censor the entire internet and destroy privacy while violating First Amendment rights and potentially putting minors in danger.

This also could very well mean the end of Tumblr, and I'm not exaggerating here.

Tomorrow KOSA could be passed in Senate, and from there it will need to pass in the House of Representatives before being signed into law by the president. It's not doomsday yet, but it is a dangerous situation-- and here's what you can do.

StopKOSA.org provides you with a template email to send to your representatives. You can leave it how it is or edit it to say what you want, and then send it from their website.

The website also allows you to call your representatives and gives you a template of what to say.

BadInternetBills.org, run by the same people, takes action against KOSA as well as other bills like EARN IT. At the time of posting this, over 356,000 people have signed this petition.

One last thing-- The evolution of AI images and video.

I don't really have anything good to say. AI is evolving fast and changing the world as we know it. We are adapting, but nobody knows how this really is going to end up.

A few quick points:

AI images are not art. That's all. AI "artists" who genuinely claim to have made something of their own just by typing a prompt into a generator will be blocked. (Which has been in my rules for a while, but I still think it needs to be said.)

I recommend Glaze for artists who don't want their art being scraped and used for data training. Especially with the recent rumors of an upcoming deal between Tumblr and Midjourney. There's also a similar program called Nightshade (haha, earthspark reference? anyone?🦉) that I haven't tested myself but have heard good things about.

this is such a solid show so far, i dont even know what to say. episodes feel long, but they're not boring. they're lingering, they last. it takes everyday emotions and everyday experiences and lets them play out; it confers importance to the small things. the story and overall plot-per-ep is simple yet genuine, and everything and every character feels so lived-in. i like the mix of fun and serious, i like the steady growth and trust between mork and day and the little buds of tension starting to bloom. i love the way the camera brings things to the forefront of the viewer's attention, the way expressions are shot and how long those shots are allowed to last on screen...you really feel the emotion coming through, and it really impresses me from both an acting and directing standpoint.....im just rambling but the jist of it is that i'm really enjoying this

Speaking of BioShock Infinite, have I ever told you about that time I made a timeline of the BioShock series?

Tumblr made the image smaller so I’ve uploaded the original here :)

It’s far from being exhaustive because the reason I drew this in the first place was to make sure I really understood Infinite (the ending, especially) and Burial at Sea, so only the most significant and/or pivotal events are featured here. I later added some stuff from the other two games and the Minerva’s Den DLC after playing them. However, the novel BioShock: Rapture isn’t included because I haven’t read it (and it seems it’s generally not considered canon anyway).

I made this 8 years ago (with Paint, haha) but very recently translated it and made some adjustments so I could post it! I didn’t check everything I wrote because it’s been a while since I’ve really thought about the lore of BioShock, so I decided to trust my 2015 self and assume she knew what she was doing :’)

there’s something i’ve noticed in some people (myself included) in the sonic community where the relationship they have with maria always has this particular sense of grief about it

like we see certain types of art of her and we all kind of collectively lose our minds because it Hurts. but it’s a different kind of hurt with her than it is for characters we’ve lost in other media. it’s this kind of visceral kneejerk reaction as if we’re the ones who should be grieving her, either with or on shadow’s behalf.

maybe it’s just me, but i can’t really name another character who causes that kind of feeling? sure i’ve had other characters’ deaths absolutely destroy me before too, but with maria it really is different in a way that’s hard to describe. is it because her and shadow’s story is so much older than most others in recent memory, so it’s had time to really take root and become personal? is it because something about it strikes a particular kind of subconscious nerve that media rarely manages to pull off?

the grief isn’t really the world-stopping sharp pain of a fresh loss like it is in those cases, it’s more like a really old scar that hurts on rainy days or twinges when you move a funny way and reminds you it’s there. it’s always going to be there. it’s grief that ran its course without us, so the worst of it has already passed. we know it happened but we weren’t there for the injury or the stitches or the recovery. we’re just left kind of looking at this scar left over and wondering

we know maria but we don’t know her at all. she loved shadow, and she loved the earth so she would have loved us, and we love her, but it’s like the love of waking up from a dream of another life entirely and mourning the loss of all you had in it.

maybe that’s what it feels like to shadow. maybe that’s why we feel this way too

I made a second flavor swapped Cookie thing, this time with seamoon

I again just needed something to draw. I was originally planning to draw berry flavored Dark Cacao, possibly with Dark Choco, but I couldn’t figure out what to draw them doing. I mean I could have just done head drawings, but the first one had an actual pose/scene going on, and so I wanted there to be an actual pose. Then I started thinking about maybe drawing a swap seamoon kiss

I was trying to figure out what other Legendaries I could swap them out with, and I thought of Fire Spirit and Wind Archer (or more accurately, their elements), and I was wondering if that might have some Icarus elements to it, and I got excited with that and other potential ideas and went for it

I was thinking of fire for Moonlight with the idea that the Wizards was using fire as their basis of research rather than the night sky. I haven’t entirely figured out whether Moonlight would be representative of the sun (would work for the Icarus idea), or if she was born out of the core of a volcano. I’m leaning more towards the latter though. As for Sea Fairy, I thought that the sky would be a suitable substitute for the sea, as they’re both large parts of the world and have various creatures associated with them. And again, possible association with fire/the sun. And possibly also because firewind

I definitely took more liberties with their designs than I did last time. It was likely in part because I was more focused on the elements than the specific characters these swaps were based on. Sea Fairy was more a mix of Wind Archer and Sugar Swan, with the design being more Sugar Swan and the colors more Wind Archer. I may be a known griper of Sugar Swan Cookie’s design, but she does have a deity look to her

The first thing I thought to do with Moonlight was to have her hair floating upwards, since she’s made of fire, and also it’d look good for the drawing. I didn’t draw her hat because I originally had forgotten about it, and then I thought that the hat would interfere with the hair. I did keep the bottom part though, and I guess it’s like some sort of tiara now. I think it looks good. I also added a cape because Fire Spirit has one, with it taking the place of her bottom half frills

I’ll be honest, some of these changes were just because I didn’t want to draw certain parts of the character, like Sea Fairy’s coral and such. I don’t think it looks too bad though

Yeah I guess I might make this a series then? I just make flavor swapped Cookies doing stuff? It’s not that bad a concept, and maybe it frees up my creative space from the perpetual fankid struggles. Also it could be better practice for posing and drawing characters together. I just have to be careful when swapping some Cookies though

(By the way I still want to draw berry Dark Cacao, but I still don’t know what to draw him doing, so you know. If you have ideas. Dark Choco can be in there too)

the faerie kingdom episode would have been better if they added worms and moles as their npcs and not a bunch of monotone grayscale silver aesthetic

in fact, the forest/woods aesthetic isnt the problem because compared to actual cottagecore faerie aesthetic, the faerie kingdom is too incredibly 'pristine' and feels like youre in in the utensil section of the cooking aisle

2022 Batcat has very strong "I can fix him" vibes but I'm gonna be honest here I don't think he deserves her. Not rn at least cause Selina is 100% the most emotionally mature & responsible person in the entire movie with only like. Alfred & Ms. Reál behind her. & Bruce is literally a BRAT, he's insanely sheltered, ignorant and selfish through most of the movie and starts only becoming more aware of, like, everything? towards the end. There is a LOT of work 2 be done there & Selina's already dealing w/ enough shit on her own to be worrying about a grown man in a batsuit.

Also I do think it's interesting how the two main ships 2 come out of this movie (Riddlebat & Batcat) run in completely opposite directions. Selina could "fix" Bruce, but Bruce and Edward could only make each other worse.

Selina might've had her mom til she was 7 (iirc) & her piece of shit dad only dies after she's into her (mid?) 20s, but she DOES have a similar background to Edward's in that they both grew up without a stable, "normal" family, and had a very poor economic situation their whole lives. I do want to know more about her past REAL BAD cause we got the Year One comics for Edward that let us know he'd been bullied his whole life besides also growing up in the orphanage which was just... not ideal to say the least, but we still don't know much (or AS much) about Selina.

From what we see in the movie I think it's pretty obvious that Selina had to "toughen up" from a very young age: she knows how to handle herself, how to protect herself, and tries her best to do the same for those she cares about. The grudge she holds against Falcone is absolutely justified, and so is the fact that she all but jumps onto the one chance she had to kill him.

(Sidenote: I do like how Bruce's reasoning went from "You'll be just like him" (most sheltered statement ever) to "You've paid enough" (makes more sense and ACTUALLY shows some care for her as a person rather than for some broad, flimsy sense of justice.))

But on Edward's side, we have the fact that he never had someone in particular to direct all of his rage and despair to, leading him to hate and berate himself. Once he learned there WAS a reason that caused his life to be so horrible, rather than some divine, nonsensical punishment aimed towards him specifically, his hatred turned outwards into a far more broad direction than Selina's, causing him to all but lose his mind and start planning.

Selina is aware of the corruption in Gotham, but she doesn't have the detailed knowledge that Edward has (due to his job giving him the chance to find out), and still says at one point that she agrees with what Edward is doing (even if nothing is mentioned about the *way* he's doing it), which to me means that she's the kind of person who's just trying to survive and is just not able to fully dedicate herself to making a change and has become disillusioned with the city as a whole, which is evident during the talk she has with Bruce before they go their separate ways.

She HAS things to care about, and this sounds rude because I really don't know how else to put it, but she also has "a life" unlike Edward, who is always alone, chasing a purpose that only destroys him in the end. Him being ND plays a huge part in this; his already lacking social skills are only made worse by his environment, making his chronic loneliness straight up DEADLY.

I feel like I'm talking in circles BUT what I really mean is that I think the difference between Edward and Selina boils down to their ability to form relationships. Edward has been unable to do so his whole life, making him spiral, but Selina IS able to connect with others, and this "saves" her in a way. It gives her concrete goals and, more importantly, reasons to live, while also being the cause of her overall maturity and ability to go through tough times (because they WERE), and still not lose sight of herself.

Bruce and Edward both grew up lonely. Bruce because of his trauma*, and Edward because of his neurodivergency. Selina, on the other hand, shows MUCH better social skills and adjustment than both of them throughout the movie (I do think she had to grow up way too fast to survive, when she shouldn't have had to).

I just realized this post is long as fuuuck and borderline incomprehensible and I don't even know how 2 end it I'm sorry everyone.... I'm just spinning them around inside my head.

Also I just gotta say I think her and Edward could've been really good friends if they met as children, but that's another thing & also just a headcanon. But yeah. Let her catch a break. Basically.

*: I do think there's a strong argument you could make for Bruce being ND as well, but I'm also factoring in his economic status since it would've allowed him to receive help/therapy for improving his social skills while Edward never had that option.
