While I'm not one for generational conflict cuz there's no war but the class war so to speak, I can't help but think that a "perfect millennial comedy routine" probably oughta consist of a little bit more substance than repackaged "kids use weird slang these days," along with askin to be given some common decency in accounta introducing Facebook and Instagram, plus also bein the boss.

Now folks I may just be a simple country baked salted ham, but it seems ta me that listin off four o the worst things in the world today ain't exactly any generation's idea of empathetic. Ain't a doubt in my mind we're more like than not cross put near three or four decades, jest sayin don't trust too well someone askin you to smile along while they insult ya and tell ya how ta act and they think ya oughta be quiet n grateful for a handful o garbage cuz they invented takin a shit.

Another generative AI thought I've had.

Outside of tumblr & mastodon, everyone I know is fucking insane in love with AI generators.

I routinely receive links to "cool" AI imagery & short videos. A friend proudly uses AI to create NPCs for their gaming sessions and shares with me, oblivious to my concerns about the technology. They know the AI was trained using stolen data but they don't care because it's "free". Nobody is profiting from it, you see, so it's fiiiiiine.

Yesterday somebody sent me a youtube essay about how soon the entire internet will be flooded with AI generated crap, to the point where real information would be drowned out by fake generated shit. And that friend thought it was lol funny, not upsetting.

Not sure what can be done about this weird lapse in understanding, aside from yelling about it more.

I rediscovered a notebook with writing from when I was 15 and. i am having A Moment with this story. It's YA urban fantasy. It's also LitRPG before I knew what LitRPG is, and of course the main character is a redhead, of course her parents are dead, of course her grandmother dies in chapter 1, of course her hometown is weird and everyone accepts that as normal..... Christ on a cracker, little me was going off with this. Hitting all the tropes

re: that fucking staff post. obviously death to algorithms, but i also wanna interrogate the wider underlying assumptions of their logic there cuz. is 'success' having lots of followers & lots of popular posts??? why is that the end goal of using this website. i don't open tumblr to get attention from strangers, i open tumblr to read funny jokes and interesting commentary and to see cool art. encouraging clout-chasing will only increase user engagement if you successfully get people literally addicted to the associated dopamine hit. what if we didn't have to do that!!! what if a website could be a place you went to on purpose because you had fun there!!!!

not to complain abt the teens but i am developing a twitch abt how some teen-heavy fandoms seem to have extrapolated "queer coded" out to mean "i, the audience, read this character as queer" and now use "X coded" as if it's synonymous with "headcanon"

like, just. queer coding is when the creator adds elements to a character, such as mannerisms or clothing choices, to imply to the audience the character is queer without outright saying so. sometimes it's to get around censorship & sometimes it's to be homophobic and/or transphobic

if two characters' dynamic is "sibling coded" then that is an intentional choice by the creator. but also that doesn't actually hold up, conceptually, because there isn't a handy set of cultural touchstones for what a sibling dynamic looks like. and there's far less reason to imply that rather than outright state it. the same with "minor coded". what makes queer coding possible isn't that 'queer' is a descriptive term, it's that queer people have a defined culture and non-queer people have defined stereotypes. this is not true of every possible descriptive term.
