Celandine poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum), also known as wood poppy or yellow poppy, is a native North American perennial plant commonly found in moist woodland habitats. It features delicate, yellow, four-petaled flowers that bloom in early to mid-spring atop a clump of lobed, dark green foliage. Celandine poppy prefers partial to full shade and moist, well-draining soil. It is tolerant of drought once established. Popular varieties include ‘Pam’s Choice,’ which has variegated foliage, and ‘Wisconsin Red,’ with striking red stems, though what’s pictured here is the straight species. This plant can spread through self-seeding and is considered invasive in some areas outside its native range.
Dandelion is shown for scale and definitely not as an indication that I need to weed.
