not trying to be mean here, but, every single time i see an edit of stiles using the 'true evil only comes from corrupting something truly good' quote, i have to laugh. i'm sorry! i'm so sorry. but! it's like. stiles isn't truly good. like. even if you only watch before the nogistune, he's at best really mean.

i mean. can you see mason mocking liam's dreams? can you see mason, if liam kissed brett (considering mason has a crush on him s4) the day before the full moon, then proceeding to chain liam to a radiator and scratch liam's name into a dog bowl as punishment?

can you see mason, in the event his dad gets barely injured in a situation liam had no control over, then proceeding to tie him up and pelt him with lacrosse balls? and then key a seniors car, causing liam to get beaten up? can you reallly see him doing that?

not even to get into everything else stiles does ('are you still milking that?' in regards to isaac's. abuse. from his dad. that stopped pretty recently; or him stalking lydia (he knew her measurements. they'd never even spoke before. it's weird); etc).

like. stiles is a decent-ish guy. if i were him, i would've ran for the hills by the second episode. he does stick by scott. so. y'know. decent. but not 'truly good'.

Fixing Doomworld (and the episodes leading up to it)

I was rewatching Doomworld, and after reading this post by @kalinara, it got me thinking about my problems with the episode and the one leading up to it.

(This is mainly based on Mick’s storyline rather than anyone else’s, even though there are more problems with this storyline than just Mick’s part in it, I wanted to focus on just his; otherwise this would be incredibly long. And others have written far greater meta’s than I could)

My main problems are how they go back on so much of Mick’s development as a character, and how unsympathetic they make him and his motivations while still trying to, what? Make me think the Legends are terrible for not trusting him? 

Considering they try to tell the story like this, all while showing that he watched as the Legends faced, at best, humiliation (Ray and Nate), to worst, being forced to kill and a complete perversion of natural morals (Amaya and Sara), with Stein, Jax and Rip being abused in different ways in the middle, for at least a year (at my best guess, based on how long, I assume, it takes things like the reactor and reality gun to be built. This show isn’t great at detailing the passage of time; ironically).

So in my opinion, a good way to fix this would be:

First of all, the show should have played on the Spear using his guilt over his family and their deaths against him more. If the show had taken this route, it would have made his eventual betrayal more sympathetic and set up him helping save reality with more sense.

I mean, wouldn't it have been more sympathetic and moving, if he wanted to use the Spear to give himself a normal life where the fire never happened and his life never went down the path it did? You know, rather than him using it to give himself a life where he could... rob banks without legal consequences? Okay, great. You’ve written a one dimensional character and backtracked on any development from the prior season.

This new motivation would have made the notion that the team not trusting him was unfounded more believable, because with the original one... why would they? He was cruel and rude, and treated everyone terribly; and then spent a good few episodes being incredibly shady. And during Doomworld? I’m surprised the worst thing any of them did was punch him in the face. And it also would have made the notion that he was ‘better than this’ more believable.

Setting the stage to make Mick saving reality more of a struggle in a way that continues his characterization from season 1, and shows that he’s different now in a better way and a better man.

Onto Doomworld proper.

The episode should have opened (after the terrible Felicity death scene), with a kitchen. A normal, ordinary kitchen. Unburnt arms washing dishes that turn out to be Mick’s, with him and Leonard talking. A few establishing shot of his home, with normal work gear (firefighters gear, a blacksmith apron?). Showing what Mick could have been without the trauma and if his family didn’t die, and his life didn’t go down the path it did. Setting the stage to make Mick saving reality more of a struggle that shows his development as a character.

Then they get called in by Thawne. And things go the same, with Mick saving Nate and everything. But when the Legion are talking, there should be a line about how this isn't the first time Mick has tried to help the Legends. Showing that him suddenly betraying Leonard and helping Nate isn't all that unexpected. 

And then things go the same as the episode, with the Legends not trusting him, (don’t know yet if I want him still going back to the Legion and betraying the team again; but for the purposes of this he does), and then the team travelling back in time.

And him saving reality in the finale, going against the Legion and giving up his chance to fix his life and the mistakes he made, is so much more moving then him giving up his ability to rob banks and hurt people without legal consequences (and, I know him changing his mind was also based on Amaya being murdered, and by Leonard no less, but this fix-it is more based on the whole episodes).

All of this would have made thing make more sense, as well as drawing on Sara’s statement of preferring “A nightmare that's real, over a dream that’s a lie”.

This change would have fit the message of the season better, and (for me, at least) made Mick more of an interesting character, like he was in season 1.

Sorry if this is rambling and incoherent, I’m not great at putting my thoughts to words. And contrary to, well, this post, I do like Mick, (at least, S1!Mick), and this isn’t meant to be Anti Mick (I will still put the tag down so the post should be avoidable), more, Anti parts of this season and the characterizations.

And this is, again, all just my own, personal opinion. If you preferred the actual episode, then more power to you.
