Like I want to be real for just a moment.

I've been looking forward to the renaissance Faire for weeks, and consider it the highlight... no, pinnacle, of outings in general. It's like my thing and I haven't gotten to go to one in probably ten years because of all sorts of life getting in the way.

And I put most of my energy into putting together a good costume for myself and my family too. It was my hyperfocus for the most if april into may. I hand made a lot of shit.

I didn't intentionally get tickets for mothersday, but thought it was pretty cool that I'd have my mothers day at the ren Faire.

I set everything up, made sure we had everything we needed and organized, ready to go, down to gathering the costumes together from head to toe days in advance so all we needed to do was slip everything on and be out the door.

And then my 3 and a half year old had one... if not several combined... meltdowns. And yea little kids are shitasses and he wasn't the only kid who made a fuss there. But my husband's lack of quick reaction, or even simple backup as far as trying to deescalate this kid, made me miss out on enjoying any of it myself.

From him not wanting to ride in the stroller, to being the one to hold his hand, to lifting him up off the ground when he decided he didn't even want to walk.

I spent a good 95 pecent of my time focused solely on the kids behavior, that I had the husband trying to get my attention to tell me other people were trying to talking to me and compliment my costume.

So I would go from saying "no you need to stay by us.... come on get off the ground 😠....... oh! why thank you yes I made this myself!🤡" In the span of a few seconds

I even had to walk away from the jousting performance with the child in tow to keep him chill all the while the husband got to stand and record the event. So much for my fucking day. The husband would not have even went to the Faire had I not suggested and prepped for it.

And now I'm laying in my dark bedroom trying to find a spark of joy, or something new to hyperfocus on, and there's nothing there.

When we got home I immediately took everything off to get in the shower and he comes in all "Oh dang it I wanted to get a picture of you in your costume..." like I wanted to scream WHY DIDNT YOU DO THAT ANY OF THE PREVIOUS 6 HOURS I WAS IN IT?!" He got good video of the horses but heaven forbid he get some photos of the costume I spent weeks on.

Hell I'm trying not to cry because I put all that effort into having a good day , all that effort into going to something i love for the first time in a decade, and I didn't even get to enjoy it because my partner, my backup, didn't bother to back me up.
