Mag 81 A Guest for Mr Spider
FUCK FORMER HEAD ARCHIVIST
Wait I need to check the timelines - this was 2 days after leitner's death
New spooky music???
My man is so fucking dramatic I love him so much "grand of sand behind my eye" love the way he speaks
Yeah FUCK JURGEN LEITNER
Omg the greying hair is canon??
Child in the 90s makes him at most 27 GOD DAMN. I was imagining like mid 30s...can you imagine a fucking 27 yr old using words like "ilk" when talking to you
Oh shit he's an orphan poor guy
Yeah ok a lot of his personality seems to make sense if you realise he was raised by his grandma
You know those memes that are like people raised by their grandparents are exceptionally polite but in a brisk way, talk fancy and are super posh? Yeah that's him.
Getting such neurodivergent vibes
Yeah he sounds like a main character from the start Jesus Christ he's such a kid who got traumatised and then grows up to be a horror protagonist vibes
My First Leitner lol like kids had to be introduced to them at a young age like those my first toys
He's so funny I can just imagine him as an 8 yr old getting super like affronted at this like how dare my grandma think I am of subpar intelligence he's such a little bitch from the start
"The eponymous Mr spider" even talking about his childhood trauma he's busting out the vocabulary
Fuck that story actually kinda rattled me I had my hand over my mouth in shock for most of it
I think it was the bit where the horsefly brought his son and they were both crying that got me, I could definitely imagine it scaring an 8 yr old
The way it drags out as well, with the pages of the same scene it really heightens the suspense
Is his childhood bully someone we should keep track of?? Love how he says Michael probably cause he sees him as a bully lol
It's interesting how despite him bullying him (quite badly seeing as though he beat him up) he's still like yeah but he saved my life and that means he deserves to be remembered
My bro didn't save your life on purpose, he was just trying to make it worse and happened to come to a terrible fate cause of that
I guess underneath it all he was still a kid who watched someone die, knowing they'd get eaten by a fucking spider, he still held him in some regard
The way he specified the guy was his bully even after he was being eaten though lol
He was desperate to get the book back? That's a leitner thing I guess, the book makes you want to keep it so it can finish whatever it wanted to do to you
On my relisten (which I will do once I've finished the series I'm sure of it), I'll have to look out for any reaction of leitners name
I wonder why Jon didn't react more to Carlos vittery's statement, like it must've terrified him? I saw a post a while back explaining Jon's thoughts and IT WAS GENIUS it was like of course he doesn't react, he must be terrified that someone knew about his experience and somehow did this to mess with him or it was a joke and he can't let anyone know that the Head Archivist is not Good at This ugh it's so good I'll tag it if I can find it
AHHHHH HE REGRETS DISMISSING THE OTHER STATEMENTS AHHHHHH
HE FINALLY ADMITS THAT HE NEEDS HELP WE LOVE THIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT YES YOU FUCKING DO BITCH.
yeah at least he's right about Elias killing leitner
GEORGIE THE EX GIRLFIEND
ITS SO WEIRD TO SEE HIM ACTUALLY NICE TO SOMEONE WOW HIS VOICE CHANGES SLIGHTLY AS WELL HES LESS ACADEMIC
THE ADMIRAL
Awwww he's so cute with georgie
GHOST PODCAST GHOST PODCAST
THE WHAT THE GHOST T SHIRT IS CANON???? AHH THATS SO CUTE
Can he not go back to his own flat?? Did he bring all his clothes to the archive and then subsequently leave them there? Does he even have a flat??
God Georgie is so nice I would kill for her
It's so funny that an apparent supernatural cynic dated a ghost podcaster
WOW SEASON 3 OFF TO AN AMAZING START I CANT WAIT TO KEEP LISTENING IM GONNA TELL MY THERAPIST ABOUT THIS TOMORROW!!!

Trick or Treat
Summary: Eric and Fiona were dead set on dressing up the cats.
A/N: "I'm not gonna write another bonus, I'm not gonna write another bonus, I'm not gonna - Fuck it" I had to write this bc I got the idea in my brain during a stream and it wouldn't let go until I wrote it
Thanks @dcartcorner , the two chatters in stream and my friend who helped me decide on some of the costumes.
Inspiration for Daisy's costume
Not beta read, just me, lil document and thoughts about cats
Pt 1, Simon, Peter, Elias and Mike / Pt 2, Michael and Helen Distortion, Agnes / Pt 3, Annabelle, Jude, Oliver / Pt 4, Maxwell, Manuela, John, Jane / Bonus, a visit to the vet
Gertrude blamed Eric Delano for the situation she was in. Well, Eric and Fiona Law. She could hear the two talk on the 30th that Gertrude felt was not work related. Her suspicion was confirmed as Eric knocked on the door to her office, leaning against the doorframe as he waited for her to look up.
“Yes Eric?”
“So… Are you doing anything tomorrow?”
“Why are you asking?”
“Because it’s Halloween. Going out for drinks with, oh, what was his name? Jurgen Lighter?”
“Leitner.” Gertrude sighed. “And no. I’m going to be home. Halloween is just a time of year to give children excuses to eat a lot of candy.”
“Riiight-” Eric drummed his fingers against the door frame. “You got cats though, right?”
“Yes.”
“Are you going to dress them up?”
“Now why would I do that?”
Because Eric and Fiona were dead set on dressing up the cats. So after work they forced Gertrude to the local pet shop in order to find enough costumes for the cats. It was quite hard figuring everything out. Spending hours there looking at photos of the cats to find the right match.
“We’ll go home to yours directly after work then?” Fiona clarified with Gertrude before they went their separate ways. Gertrude only answered with a nod and mumble about how tomorrow would not be a great day.
31st started just fine. The day went on as usual, though her assistants were more talkative than normal. Eventually it was time to leave and the four stood ready as Gertrude exited her office. She sighed. Clearly no one had forgotten.
Some of the cats were very easy to get into their costumes. Oliver, Maxwell and Manuela got dressed as bats with wings, matching their already black fur. Oliver let it happen while the other two put on a bit more of a fight. Eric had a bit worse of a luck than Emma as he decided on the twins, both wearing a very colourful snake costume that Michael had first fought to not have to wear, Gerry however had been more peaceful, glaring at Eric as he got a onesie full of different types of eyes on it.
Poor Sarah had decided to take on Mike, which had gone as well as one might expect from him as Sarah tried to get him into a cloud costume. She had then taken three of the more peaceful cats. Simon, dressed as a bee and Peter who had accepted his fate to be dressed as a jester. She had even managed to catch Elias to put him in an owl costume.
Gertrude decided to make it as easy as possible by taking the cats that seemed the most interested in the costumes. Tim dressed in a cape similar to how a vampire costume would be, Martin who got a cow costume, Sasha who got a small knitted sweater and quickly made glasses to fit a cat, Jon who joined - or was bullied by Tim - was put in a moth costume. Agnes came up to her for her costume, looking like a fire with a crown on top of her head.
Fiona got Daisy into a dog costume, Melanie got on a lion's mane and Basira who got put in a box painted like a police car, though not without some chasing, scratching and something that fell from a table.  Emma stuck to the theme of the matching outfits as she managed to get Jane into a worm costume, John into a fly costume and Annabelle into a spider costume. Eric changed out Georgie’s collar to one that said ‘The Admiral’. Jared got a onesie similar to Gerry’s though this one had a pattern of bones. Fiona had to take Jude and Nikola. Jude dressed up as a flame while Nikola looked like a toy soldier.
After a bunch of photos and attempts at getting Gertrude out with them, Emma, Fiona, Sarah and Eric decided to leave. Planning to go to some bar they liked. Leaving Gertrude alone with cats in stupid costumes and having to answer the door as people dressed up came by. Which was a bit of a pain as cats wanted to get out or the people showing up saw the dressed up cats. Gertrude was not very happy to get the cats OUT of the costumes again.

I've been thinking non-stop about this post (thanks person that put it on my dash again) and I think that while indeed Gerry always just say random cryptic shit jon isn't exactly better, just take s4 as an example! Martin was so done with his "yes but actually no" bullshit, this take me to my point:
Jongerrymartin where is martin who feels like is married to "one guard always lies and the other always tell the true"
Martin: /goes to the kitchen for water
Gerry standing in front of the fridge looking to an empty jug of milk: Just as Joseph said, the seven years of abundance are ending, only famished cattle from now
Martin: ????????
Jon who came from nothing with a meowing cat in the arms: no, he's right
Martin: ??????????????
Martin: wait
Martin: /open the fridge and cupboards
Martin: oh for fuck sake, can't just tell me when we need to get groceries?

Today on “Mack writes something painful but oddly melancholic”, we have a sad jmart! (no surprise)
A bunch of us in the Magnus Writers Discord were talking about Archivist!Martin, and Mr. Spider got brought up, which gave me the motivation to write a short fic about Martin learning about the statement directly from Jon, rather than from a tape.
Because Jon deserves to be comforted and reassured that nothing that happened was his fault, dammit! (He also should be allowed to cry.)
———
Length: 1.2k Timeline: shortly after Jon’s return from being kidnapped by Nikola (s3) CWs: canon-typical self-deprecation/self-hatred, childhood trauma
I literally wrote this in like an hour so no it hasn’t been beta-d, so any errors/word-weirdness are entirely my fault~
———
“Martin?”
Martin glanced up at Jon, running his finger along the rim of his long-cold mug of tea. They’d barely spoken the entire time they’d been here—around an hour or so—but…Jon needed to fill the silence. And…maybe Martin deserved to know about some things. Important things.
“Hm?” Martin replied.
“I…I think I want to talk about something,” Jon said slowly. “That is, um…if you’re okay with me telling you.”
Martin sat up a little straighter. “What about?”
“About…me.”
He cocked his head to one side, a single eyebrow raised. “I’m…not sure what you mean by that?”
Jon sighed and glared down at the tea he hadn’t had the stomach to drink. The still-fresh wounds lingering on his wrists ached, red and raw in spite of the medicine Martin had slathered all over them. He was so…tired. But maybe if Martin understood a bit more—knew what kind of person he really was—he’d stop being so kind. It’d make it easier for the next time Jon was taken and tortured. It’d be easier for when something finally killed him.
“I…I made a statement a few months ago,” Jon explained. “Back after…after Leitner. But I want to tell you personally. If- if that’s all right.”
“What statement?”
Jon scratched at his wounds thoughtlessly. “My introduction to this world. To the entities. I…I read a Leitner.”
Martin’s mouth flapped speechless for a moment before he finally managed to respond. “O-oh. Oh God.”
Jon nodded sadly; best to get this out sooner rather than later. At least with Martin, he knew he probably wouldn’t be thrown to the curb immediately, though he expected it would happen soon enough. Georgie had. Why wouldn’t Martin?
He never should’ve agreed to move in with him. He didn’t deserve that. But quite frankly he was so tired of being alone and terrified for his life, and being near Martin always helped alleviate at least some of that fear. Still, Martin deserved to know why everything that was happening was happening to them. To him.
“Yes…I, um. I read a Leitner,” Jon said. “It belonged to the Web. W-when I was a child, my, um…well, my parents- th-they died when I was very young. I never really knew them. My- my grandmother raised me, and…I wasn’t very easy to handle, so she would always buy me a lot of books to keep me occupied. One of them was, um…A Guest for Mr. Spider, from the Library of Jurgen Leitner.
“So…I read it, and…I wound up somewhere I don’t think I’d been before. I…I think it puppetted me there, truthfully. Someone—a childhood bully—slapped it out of my hands. Forced me to stop reading.” Jon suppressed a shudder and stared intently at his mug; Martin’s eyes stared deeply into him, and he didn’t dare meet them. “He picked it up, probably to- to mock me for reading what looked to be a book for very young children. I-I was eight, and an avid reader, and the book was a very short picture story—far too young-looking for me. But he picked it up, and it…it caught him in its web. I followed him to the place it pulled him to, and…and I watched the Spider crawl out from a doorway and- and take him. I…” He closed his eyes and pushed away all the images of spindly, segmented black legs reaching, then snatching away a man he’d only ever wished would leave him alone. “I watched him die, Martin. And…the book went with him.
“I-I know that I’m…obsessive- when it comes to researching these things. A-and I knew it was dangerous coming into all of this, but…” He took a deep breath. “The Web let me live, and for whatever reason, I think it still wants me alive. But…it will torment me and everyone around me to get whatever it wants, and…you deserve to know that. To know why.”
From the wall, the clock tick, tick, ticked for far, far longer than Jon wished. The incessant noise clanging against his mind, ringing around with all the horrible memories of everything he’d gone through, and slowly, slowly counting down the seconds to some inevitable end. He wished Martin would say something. He wished he wasn’t hurting him just by being around—by wanting to be around—and knowing that he wouldn’t give Martin up. He was rather selfish like that.
“Jon,” Martin said hesitantly. “You…you were eight?”
Jon nodded.
“You…you know that’s not your fault, right?”
He chuckled softly. “Realistically, yes. Though I’ve never been able to convince myself that I couldn’t have done anything to prevent what happened.”
Martin reached out and placed his hand over Jon’s. He was warm, kind, oh-so-gentle. “Nothing else has been your fault either, Jon.”
“Tell that to Tim.”
“I’m not telling him, I’m telling you.”
Jon sighed and stared at the broad hand covering his own, much thinner and a good deal worse-for-wear. “I just…I want you to know. So you can…make a more informed decision on whether you want me around.”
Martin picked up his hand and held it gently in his own, tenderly stroking his palm. “I asked you to come live here,” he said. “I’m not going to kick you out because I now know that you were traumatised by an evil spider monster when you were eight.”
Jon snickered and turned up his palm to link his fingers with Martin’s. “Thank you,” he murmured.
“Now come here, because I’m going to hug you.”
“Wha—?”
Martin cut him off by rounding the table and wrapping his arms tightly around his torso. Jon froze, uncertainty swelling in his mind. “I said, ‘I’m going to hug you’,” Martin replied, his voice low and comforting in a way that it had no right to.
He was warm, and tender, and soothing, and it was doing all sorts of things to Jon’s emotions. Shooting horror, winding blush-heat, a light gust of some deeper affection that he didn’t dare inspect. He reached his arms up and clung to the back of Martin’s shirt, burying his face into his chest and listening to the steady rhythm of his heart.
“You don’t ‘deserve’ to get hurt, Jon,” Martin murmured into his ear. “You don’t ‘deserve’ to be tortured, or kidnapped, o-or manipulated by Elias, or the Web, or whatever! You deserve to be safe. O-or at least, to be a good bit better off than you have been. And- and maybe I can’t fix that, but…I’m going to be here for you, okay? One way or another.”
Something in Jon began to fracture. He always felt a bit like a glass sculpture just waiting for the right thing to finally shatter him, and…it looked like Martin might be it. Not a hammer, or a wrecking ball, or even a violent punch to the face. Just Martin: a light tap of a finger.
He wasn’t even fully aware of the tears that dripped from his cheeks. He was too focused on the way Martin brushed them away, on the way he whispered reassurances in his ear, on the way he kissed his forehead and promised that he would stay by his side as long as he could.
And so for the first time since all of this had begun, Jon allowed himself to cry, comforted by the knowledge that Martin would always be there to hold him steady. He swore he would do the same for him for as long as he lived. He prayed that he would live long enough to keep that promise.

📓!!
i've posted about this idea before a million times, but: archivist melanie fic. i've had this idea for such a long time, and i would love to riff on it if i ever get the motivation.
so the basic premise of this ends up being a semi melanie-jon role swap, but: essentially jon does not work at the institute, and melanie comes in to give her statement sooner. (her statement takes place in january of 2015, so this actually sort of works?? but i'd probably mess with the timeline so melanie has her encounter with the slaughter, and ghost hunt uk breaks up, sooner.) elias doesn't see a clear candidate for the archivist after murdering gertrude -- he's considering tim, he's considering rosie, but no one feels like a clear fit... but then he meets melanie, who isn't exactly a perfect fit, but... she's doubly marked, by the slaughter and the stranger. and with the drive she has for investigation, it seems like it would be easy to orchestrate twelve more.
so melanie takes the archivist job, with sasha, tim, and martin as her assistants (just because), and her approach ends up even more focused on investigation than jon's. (she refuses to look into the most outlandish ones -- she's still as skeptical of the institute as she is in canon -- but there's plenty grounded in evidence that she's ready to investigate.) tim and sasha fall into this easily, of course, with their experience in research, and they all end up more or less bonding, because why not (melanie canonically liked sasha, and was friends with martin, and i think she would've gotten along better with tim under better circumstances...). georgie, of course, is still close with melanie, and ends up being much more involved with things, and while the institute initially seems like a good thing for melanie -- a new opportunity and a chance to find closure -- it also ends up being a little frightening as time goes on, as melanie's eye powers start to develop, and the slaughter starts to take a greater hold on her...
so in this au, jon comes into the story when he's convinced (either by coincidence, by georgie, or by the web) to give a statement about mr. spider. there's little to no evidence, and melanie would probably dismiss it if it wasn't for the fact that a) jon is friends with georgie, or used to be friends with georgie, and b) the fact that martin and jon immediately hit it off, and martin pushes to investigate more. they can't find anything about jon's statement, but they do decide to look into more spider statements to see if there's a connection. specifically, first, the carlos vittery case. which martin and melanie go to investigate together. and this time, instead of martin, jane prentiss follows the archivist home.
melanie is trapped for a few days with her phone gone. but this time, people get clued in faster -- partially because georgie, who texts with melanie all the time, knows that prentiss's texts are nothing like melanie, and partially because martin was there at the basement with her. they manage to break her out after a few days. melanie ends up staying with georgie instead of in the institute because georgie insists ("you're not staying in the office, melanie; i'll be fine"). jon finds out about this through georgie and, despite the tension he and melanie had when he gave his statement, he calls to apologize. (and is more or less adopted into this strange little circle because of his connection with georgie, and his new tentative friendship with martin.)
the prentiss attack goes very similarly, except for one thing: when the dust has settled, and melanie is getting patched up in an ambulance outside, and tim and martin start hugging a strange woman and calling her sasha... melanie sees through it. she sees through it, and can't say anything, because the others won't believe her, and the not!sasha knows it, keeps smirking at melanie over their shoulders. that isn't sasha, and something has happened to her.
melanie tells georgie, convinces georgie to believe her. they go back into the archives while it is empty (everyone on leave) and tear it apart, looking for references to what this is. (melanie remembers the amy patel statement, but wants more information...) eventually they find the statement from mag 78, the one with adelard dekker. they put together the pieces about the table. melanie goes to tim and martin, and they don't believe her, but she convinces them to come with her, to just see the table, and that's when they destroy it, releasing sasha and letting the not!them loose all at once.
(yes, sasha lives in this au; not because melanie is the archivist, but just because i don't wanna kill sasha, shhh)
there is the canon-typical not-sasha chase, with a sasha that only melanie recognizes along for the ride. jurgen leitner still shows up and traps it, but melanie refuses his offers to talk. none of them want answers, at this point, after prentiss and the not!them; they just want out. they go to elias to try and quit, and are unable to, of course. (even after melanie threatens him with a letter opener.) they are trapped, for now.
everyone takes their time off, although none of them really stay away; tim and martin and georgie are all waiting for their memories of sasha to go right, and after tim and melanie's wounds heal a little, they're meeting almost daily to try and figure out how to leave the institute. but in all the confusion and exhaustion and trauma, one thing all of them forget to do is fill in jon. (how can they? strange spiders and worms are one thing, but this... it all seems a little much.) this ends up being a mistake when, on everyone's first day back to the archives, elias announces a new coworker. he shows jon down, who looks confused and maybe even a little hurt when everyone loudly protests. elias smiles at melanie and tells her it's a shame they can't bring that host of what the ghost on -- that she would surely be a valuable resource to the archives as well.
so i'm not sure where the fic goes from here; in my mind, it's always cut off with elias essentially hiring jon as a hostage to keep the others under control. with the 197 reveal that the web hand picked jon as the archivist, though... i did have a new idea for a continuation. one where, in a sped up timeline with the revelations of s2 and early s3 having come in about a week -- and with the web's chosen archivist finally in the institute -- the web starts to orchestrate situations where jon gets marked alongside melanie. and it catches things before they progress too far. it shows melanie eric delano's tape instead of steering her away -- like it did jon -- in the hopes that melanie will blind herself to get free of the institute. so that the archivist position will be open for jon.

I really liked your 'Life Preserver' excerpt and I'd love to read more about it. I liked the interaction between Gerry and Georgie, their characterization and Gerry's description of his relationship with Jon, plus this exchange: “He thinks your mum’s a homophobe, you know.”“You know, he’s probably right? Think she might just hate the idea of love in general, though.”“Messy divorce, I take it,”“Rohypnol and garden shears were involved, so yeah, I’d say it was pretty messy.”
Thanks!
Yeah, Gerry and Georgie surprised me as a really interesting dynamic to explore. In spite of Georgie’s caution around the Entities, Gerry just feels like the kind of person Georgie would get along with, given the people she canonically ends up loving.
Anyway here’s another part I’ve written! This one actually has Jon and Gerry in it.
---
When Jon went in for his next shift, things went smoothly enough to be genuinely suspicious. Tina was his desk partner again, and she greeted him with the same cordiality as always. No one official-looking ever came by to speak with him.
The only hint that anything had happened that night was a campus-wide e-mail paying respects to Daniel Lattimer, one of the subject librarians, who was reported as having “passed unexpectedly”. The message held all of the usual official platitudes and nothing else; Jon had read it word for word several times to be sure.
Someone should have known, shouldn’t they? It wasn’t as if he had been careful about covering his tracks, beyond making his tip anonymous. The library had cameras. He was sure he’d left at least a few shoe prints in all the blood.
But nothing came of it. The first hour passed peacefully, with nothing more exciting than a couple of patrons he had to inform of overdue books.
Jon spotted the familiar dark figure out of the corner of his eye, even before Tina hissed a warning at him. He raised his head to watch Gerard Keay’s approach, chest suddenly tight with nervousness.
How on earth was he supposed to explain this?
“Hey.” Gerard was in front of him already, leaning his elbows on the desk as usual. “Any word on that book? I tried to come in yesterday, but you were closed.”
“R-right.” Jon hesitated. There were several ways he could answer this. He could, of course, be utterly truthful and tell him that he’d burned the thing on account of it being made of meat and killing one of the librarians. He almost laughed at the thought. At worst, Gerard would complain to someone about Jon being unhelpful; at best, he’d find it funny, but he’d demand a real answer once he was done laughing about it.
He could lie and stall by saying that the book was still on its way. But that was a temporary fix at best, and it would only lead Gerard to keep coming in and asking.
And would that really be so bad? Jon shook his head to clear away the thought.
“Right,” he said again. “A-about that. Unfortunately—” He slipped his bandaged hand behind the desk, out of sight. “—we were unable to find the book in storage. It seems to have been marked incorrectly. It happens sometimes. Though not very often, I assure you,” he added hastily. “But it’s been marked down as missing, I’m afraid.”
“Oh.” Gerard’s face was the very picture of disappointment. “That’s a shame. Really did need that one.”
“Terribly sorry for the inconvenience.” Jon tried to sound like he meant it.
It was hard to force down the sheer, overwhelming relief. Just last night he’d regretted his own paranoia, but now? If he hadn’t gone back, if he hadn’t checked for the book…
Well, the library might not have been closed yesterday. And he didn’t have the first shift at the circulation desk. And whoever did might have been someone who didn’t know, someone who wasn’t haunted by the name Jurgen Leitner, who might have taken the book from the cart and handed it straight over—
The unwelcome memory of Mr. Lattimer’s body rose up behind his eyes, juxtaposed over the young man standing before him.
As a child, he’d doomed someone else to a gruesome death that should have been his. So maybe this time… maybe he’d actually…
“Well then,” said Gerard, shaking him out of his bubble of thoughts. “Guess that’s—er, guess I’ll look elsewhere…”
“Right,” said Jon. “Unless there was anything else you needed…?” He tried not to sound too hopeful.
“No, thanks, that’s it,” said Gerard, already turning away. “Thanks for all the help.”
“Oh, I hardly—I mean, I didn’t really do much, in the end.”
Gerard regarded him for a moment, head tilted to one side with a thoughtful look. Then, quite without warning, he smiled at him. “Don’t sell yourself short. You were great.”
“O-of course,” Jon stammered as Gerard turned to leave again. “Oh, wait—wait a moment.”
Gerard looked back. “Yeah?”
Jon dug into his pocket, pulling out the lighter. “Is this yours?” he asked, placing it on the desk. “I found it on one of the tables in the reading room, and I remembered you had it the other day…”
Instead of taking it, Gerard simply flashed him one last grin. “Keep it,” he said. “I’ve got loads.”
“It’s really not good to keep ignition sources in a library,” Jon protested, feeling inordinately flustered.
Gerard laughed, a brief, bright thing, and—
“D’you want to get coffee?” Jon blurted out.
The smile froze on Gerard’s face, before giving way to surprise. “What?”
A stab of terror nearly robbed Jon of his words, before he found his voice again and forged ahead. “Do you—I mean. Do you want to get coffee sometime?” he repeated. Shit. Shit, he was doing this, how was he already doing this? “With me?” He wanted to kick himself, of course he’d know he meant it that way. “I—my shift ends at noon today. If you’re free. I-if you want to, I mean.”
Gerard blinked at him, so utterly bewildered that it might have been funny if Jon’s heart weren’t currently climbing into his throat. “You—wait. Is this… are you asking me on a date?”
He said it so incredulously, as if the idea that Jon would ask him on a date were utterly incomprehensible to him. Rapidly, Jon’s heart sank back down.
“Yes,” Tina leapt in helpfully. “He is. Aren’t you, Jon?”
She nudged him none too gently. “Y-yes,” he said, because it wasn’t as if he could dig himself any deeper. “That—that was the intention.”
“Huh.” Gerard shrugged. “Sure.”
The whiplash made Jon dizzy for a moment. “Really?”
“Yeah. Noon, right? See you then.” With that, he turned and walked out of the library.
Once he was out of sight, Jon slumped over onto the surface of the desk like a marionette with its strings cut.
Tina patted his back. “Proud of you. Go get that goth D.”
***
It wasn’t that Gerry didn’t know it was a terrible idea—just that he’d had worse ones before. He was still breathing after years of them, in fact. So what was one more?
Jon the librarian was far from the first scarred survivor he’d ever met. They weren’t common, precisely, but nor were they unheard of. Technically he was one, and Mum had been as well, before she carved herself up.
But Gerry knew he was an outlier, and as rare as surviving one brush with the Fears was, meeting two of the things and escaping uneaten from both was on a level of its own. But against all odds, when he looked at the wispy little librarian who’d spent the past week being so divertingly helpful, Gerry could see two separate, distinct marks on him, where there had previously been only one. And they really were distinct from one another. The Flesh was like a shark sometimes, content to take one good bite before losing interest and wandering off, while the wisps of the Web still clung jealously. A scar like that could have been left years ago or the day before they met. You could never tell with the Web.
That added to the risk, of course. For all he knew, this was some ploy from the Mother of Puppets to catch him and draw him in. A little cliche, maybe, but Gerry couldn’t fault it for its efficacy.
He’d said yes, after all.
In his defense, it wasn’t every day he met someone with a nice face, a taste for burning Leitners, and enough luck or fortitude to walk away from two different Powers. Nor was it every day a person like that asked him to… well…
People didn’t flirt with him, was the thing. Anyone who knew enough to be worth talking to either wised up and ran the other way, or turned around and tried to take a chunk out of him.
So, yeah. Might as well give it a shot. See what it was like, while he had the chance.
He had til noon to brace himself, anyway. Not enough time to go back to Mum’s and freshen up, which was a shame. She’d just faded out a couple of days ago, so he knew he’d have the place to himself.
Ah, well.
In spite of himself, Gerry found himself turning his face upward with a grin and an excited spring in his step. It’d be a bit like traveling abroad, or visiting tourist traps, or all the other things he indulged in when Mum was gone. See as much of the world beyond his own as he could, before she finally fucked up and got him killed.
A date! Who’d have thought he’d get to check that one off the bucket list?

Jon woke up that morning with a strangled gasp, the afterimage of his dreams still burned into the back of his eyelids, keeping him from falling back to sleep. He rolled over, expecting to find the comforting warmth of one of his partners to keep him company in the lonely hours of an early day. Instead, what greeted him was the cold grey wall of Georgie’s guest room. It didn’t take long after that for the memories to flow back.
Three days. He really should stop expecting them to be here at this point.
They’re not here, they can’t be here, and he can’t go home, not for a long while, not till the police stop suspecting him for a murder he didn’t commit.
He sighed, rolling over onto his back when aches started running up his side. He stared up at the off-white popcorn ceiling, trying not to think of how Tim was probably sprawled out over Martin and Sasha, stealing most of the blankets and driving his sharp elbows into their sides. He tried not to miss Sasha’s warmth against his side and the sound of Martin’s soft snores. He always used to complain about their sleeping arrangements, but now he would do anything to be back in that bed.
He groaned and rolled over a few more times, trying in vain to find a position that was comfortable enough to attempt sleep again, not that that would go very well, with the nightmares plaguing him as soon as he closed his eyes.
Eventually, he conceded and got out of bed, grabbing his cane from the wall and taking a moment to work the stiffness out of his limbs. He limped into the kitchen and smiled at the Admiral when he raised his head sleepily. He wondered if he could convince the others to get a cat when he got home. If he ever got home.
The smile slipped off his face and he turned to open the curtains, letting in the greyish light of an early dawn. The Admiral mewled plaintively at his feet, pushing against him. He bent down carefully to run his fingers along the cat’s back, closing his eyes for a moment and just letting the feeling ground him.
He straightened and made his way over to the cramped kitchen, intent on making himself a small breakfast to keep him company whilst he waited for the world to wake up. He reached towards the cabinet over the sink, and for a moment expected their mismatched collection of mugs with ridiculous quotes and terrible puns. He shouldn’t have felt the disappointment he did when instead it was just a shelf of plain white cups.
He shut the cabinet door a little more forcefully than strictly necessary, breathing deeply against the sudden swell of emotion in his throat.
In the scope of all that had happened to him, this should have been minor, this should have been fine. It was just Georgie, the person he had used to love, the person he still cared for. And his partners were really just a phone call away.
So why then, did it feel like he was breaking? Why did every little reminder this wasn’t his home tear something apart deep in his gut?
Home had always been his safety net, and now, he had nowhere to fall.
And now he just had to sit here, stare at the blank walls and hope the police would finally realise he hadn’t been the one to kill jurgen Leitner. Every day that hope felt a bit further away.
He opened the group chat he shared with the others. There were no new messages, of course not, none of them were awake yet. Six am was a bit early even for Tim. He scrolled back to their conversation from last night.
A picture of Tim grinning into the camera while a pot bubbles over behind him.
Sasha: Tim’s cooking tonight, send help
Martin: If the house burns down or he poisons us, I want you to know I love you
Jon: I’m sure it won’t come to that.
He scrolls back down to the bottom of the chat, a small smile on his face at the easy conversation of last night. It wasn’t the same as being there with them, but it was a small comfort.
The three dots that signalled someone was typing popped up on his screen and he noted with surprise Sasha was already online.
Sasha: Youre up early
Jon: I could say the same for you.
Sasha: Needed to pee
Jon: Yes, I suppose that makes sense.
Sasha: So what’s your excuse
Jon: My back hurts again.
Sasha: :(
Sasha: And is that the only reason?
Jon: No
Jon: I miss you.
Sasha: Darling
Jon: I’m alright, I just wish I could see you
Jon: In person that is.
Sasha: We could come over?
Jon: I don’t think that’s wise.
Sasha: Yeah, i guess
Sasha: We miss you too
A swarm of emotions bubbled up in Jon’s throat at the words, threatening to spill over in a mess of heartache and sorrow and fear. They press against the bounds of his throat, choking him, filling him with so many feelings he could not even begin to parse them out. He just wanted to go home.
He swallows it down, tucks the whole mess into a corner of his mind and puts down his phone. He doesn’t want to bother Sasha, or any of the others. He’s already put so much on them, dragged them into the fear and confusion that was the archives, he had no right to bother them with more.
And he knew he was just being dramatic, he was a grown man, he should be able to handle being away from home for a while. He just needed to get himself together, focus on the next step.
He picked up a stack of statements from the coffee table, slipping on his glasses and burying himself in the comforting rhythm of paper and pen. At least this was something he still controlled, still knew how to do.
Georgie appeared at some point, giving him a disapproving glance to find him working so early and coraling him into eating breakfast with her. She can’t stay long after that, and both Jon and the Admiral watch her leave with the same forlorn air.
Jon looked up from his work as a heavy knock resounded from the front door. His first thought was that it was Georgie, back from her errands early. But she would just have let herself in, and Jon knew for certain she had her key with her when she left.
And who did that leave? The police? Some avatar coming to settle a score? Gertrude's killer finally come to finish the job?
Every option was bad, and every option would not let a flimsy door stop them. He stood up, walked into the kitchen as calmly as he could with dread and paranoia hanging over him like a dark cloud and grabbed the largest knife he could find. The knock came again, and he could hear indistinct whispering from behind the door.
Multiple people then. That wasn’t good for his chances. He gripped the knife just a little bit tighter.
“Hey boss, open up,” came a familiar voice, one he used to hear rough and sleepy in the mornings and soft and loving in the evenings. His heart brightened in a momentary thrill at the thought of his partners, or at least, one of them, being on the other side of that door, so close to him again after all those days without them. And all he had to do was open up that door and pull them into his arms once more.
That thrill was almost immediately dampened again as he realized they should not be here. It was why he had left in the first place. They were too connected to him, too wrapped up in his messy web of conspiracy and paranoia. If the police saw them here, if Elias saw them here, they would be leading all of it right to Georgie’s doorstep.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” He told the door and tried not to think of the warm hands behind it.
“We’re not supposed to do a lot of things,” Came Sasha’s amused voice.
“Like date each other,” Tim filled in, “But here we are, so you going to let us in now?”
“No, the police could find out, and you might get Georgie in trouble and there’s just so many reasons this is a bad idea.”
“Jon please, we’re worried about you, Georgie said you weren’t doing well,” Martin said softly
Jon sat down on the couch heavily, knees protesting from standing up too long. He stared at the door.
“And standing out here is probably a lot more risky than being in the apartment, so best let us in.”
He sighed. You never could argue with Sasha’s logic. The others looked up victoriously when he finally unlocked the door.
“There he is!” Tim crowed, as Sasha and Martin offered him a warm smile while bustling into the apartment, both laden with grocery bags. Sasha pressed a light kiss to his forehead as she passed and he tried not to start crying at the feeling.
“You have to leave,” He said as he shut the door, “You’re not supposed to be here.”
Martin and Sasha didn’t look up from where they were unloading piles of vegetables and snacks from their bags.
“What? No, hey guys, I missed you, happy to see you all?” Tim complained as he draped himself over Jon’s back. Jon scowled at him.
“Jon, stop being stubborn, we’ve all been through hell the past few weeks, and right now we just want to be here to keep you company,” Martin said in that firm yet gentle voice of his.
“You really shouldn’t be alone after all that,” Sasha said as she dumped out a tupperware container into a pot.
“I’m not alone,” Jon said grumpily, “I have the Admiral.” Though he had apparently decided to make himself scarce for the time being. Jon cursed him for the betrayal.
“Are you saying you prefer the company of a cat to ours?” Tim asked, pulling them both back onto the couch and settling a blanket over them.
“Maybe,” Jon pouted, burrowing into Tim’s chest despite the fact that he was still upset with them, “He doesn’t uselessly endanger everyone to come give me cuddles.”
“Well we’re here now, and we’re not leaving till you feel better.”
“And admit it, you’re happy we’re here,” Martin said, apparently finishing up with his preparations in the kitchen and curling up next to Jon on the couch.
Jon did not want to admit it, but something warm and content curled up in his stomach, the warm feeling of home returning to his bones. A warm and savoury smell drifted through the room, clearly coming from whatever Sasha was warming up on the stove.
This apartement did not look like home in the slightest, the walls and ceiling all wrong, the furniture hard and uncomfortable and unfamiliar. But with all of them here, and that familiar smell of soup and Tim’s conditioner surrounding him, it wasn’t all that bad.
Sasha sat down on his other side, handing everyone a bowl of soup and giving Jon a gentle kiss on his knuckles. Martin pressed one to his temple and Tim just ruffled his hair fondly.
A few words were exchanged between them, but Jon didn’t bother paying too much attention. He knew he should still be angry, or at least have a firm conversation with them on what they had agreed on. But not now, not when they were here and he was home and for a moment he could forget all about Leitner and the institute and just be safe.

You know that one "AU where Jon has the tma wiki songs to decipher what's going to happen?" I put together a list of things that he would actually be able to find out (including bastardhour's other tma songs because I'm a cheater and 'Murdering This Jurgen' fucks)
Murdering This Jurgen:
Elias kills Jergun Leitner (Very specifically with a pipe)
He gets framed for it.
Elias is omnipotent
They're trapped at the institute.
There's some sort of ritual in a wax museum (but that probably wouldn't make any sense until NotSasha.)
He gets kidnapped. (This one can only really be inferred from the music video, though.)
Tunnels???
He has a lighter. (He probably still wouldn't be able to comprehend it, but I thought I should probably put it here anyway.)
Jane Prentiss and her worm body
Elias and Peter's divorce kink.
The Archive Employees:
Tim is looking for clown????
Martin's in love with him.
A total of 0 of his employees have any interest in the paranormal.
Tim has a dead brother.
escaped the institute? that's a good move!:
She "escaped the Institute"
Melanie still has the bullet in her leg.
Melanie tries to kill Elias.
The world ends.
Melanie and Georgie start dating at some point. This may not be super helpful, but it will stop at least one painfully awkward conversation.
Her dad was killed by something called the "Corruption" (I don't really think he'd be able to figure out the entities from this.)
she has a boyfriend named tom:
Not??? Sasha???
Another wax museum mention.
Chasing around Jon" is a line, but I think it could be interpreted as hyperbole, so I'm not counting it.
She was "born" in 2016. (I count this because if you found out your adult coworker was born a year ago, it might start some cogs turning.
Jon is scared of her.
She has a boyfriend named Tom (who may or may not be the rat from flushed)
Melanie sees something. (I think this could give him a hint to go ask her.)
canonically assigned hot by basira:
Tim dies. Don't believe me? First-line.
Worm scar??? Related to Prentiss??? (I'm not giving that one easily because if someone just said worm scar to me I'd think it was like,,, worm-shaped.)
Tim has a deep-seated primal fear of geese.
that is what most of the daisy comments say:
Daisy being of the hunt (i.e "lovely werewolf wife" yes that is pushing it)
people are talking about jude perry:
She is not a TERF (can anyone tell me where that came from?)
Jude Perry dies/leaves.
i love my dead gay goth son:
Gerry's dead/is going to die.
Gerry really fucking hates Jergen Leitner.
Mary was abusive
Jon is saying Gerard Wrong.
cool and evil and swag:
Helen gets turned into the distortion.
Helen dies
The world ends two: electric boogaloo
Helen was a tory (aka the biggest plot twist of the entire series.)
gentle voiced old man i love you:
This isn't the information that Jon could get from this song you just need to know I get angry every time I listen to this song because of how much I hate Peter. >:-(
The Wiki pages would predict COVID.
The Lukases (presumably the ones funding the Institute) are evil.
He Hurt Martin.
He's... Dead???
Elias is the villain
But apparently, Jon is to real believers because he killed Peter Lukas.
short king archivist supremacy:
His life is Not Fun.
People care about his well-being. Yes, I am counting this as a revelation.
He's not as good at hiding his past in theatre as he thought.
People also think he's a coward.
People think he's an ignorant jerk (they're wrong :///) but still care very deeply for his wellbeing.
I feel like after listening to 11 of these, he would have Gotten The Eye Imagery (I know I did).
Eating my computer isn't on youtube and I'm tired. Bye.

tonight’s writing process is trying to figure out a simple question:
What does The Magnus Archives look like without Martin Blackwood?
I don’t mean this as in “what if Martin had a slightly different personality” or “what if Martin was more of a minor character” or even “what if Martin died early”- I mean, what does TMA look like if you completely removed Martin’s very existence from the plot? No character to replace him, so Jon only ever has two assistants in s1. No character that has a storyline similar to his even as a statement. A world where Martin Blackwood just does not exist as a tangible person. Someone who’s never been born.
tl;dr: without Martin, there is no hope.
Let’s take it season by season.
Season 1: The absence of Martin means that there is no dog incident in the Archives, which is a tragedy in and of itself. It also means that although Jon feels pressure in his job, he doesn’t have an apparent and possible spy sent by Elias looking over his shoulder, and no one to take his frustrations about being wholly incompetent at his job out on. Most likely, Tim, Sasha, and Jon would all work exceedingly well together, truth be told- they all knew each other beforehand, and even if Tim and Sasha are still a little resentful of Jon taking a promotion that he should have recognized more rightfully belonged to Sasha, it’s not as though either of them have archival experience either.
No one bothers to go through the special extended follow up on Carlos Vittery that had [REDACTED] trapped for 2 weeks in his flat. Sasha is, therefore, still skeptical as to how dangerous Jane Prentiss really is, as she only really begins to believe after [REDACTED] begins staying in the Archives. This may make her less inclined to believe Michael, or give Michael less incentive to warn the Archives. For the sake of giving our heroes their best shot, let’s say that Michael still shows her.
End of Season 1 occurs. Sasha figures out the corkscrew method and helps unworm Jon. Ultimately she still leaves Jon in document storage to warn Tim, and Jon must sit, alone, waiting. Without [REDACTED] there is no stash of CO2 in the office, meaning that unless Sasha acts quick enough, Tim is almost certainly doomed. Sasha is still taken by the not!them. Elias has mercy on our erstwhile heroes and turns on the system early, killing Jane Prentiss. Tim Stoker just barely survives by the skin of his teeth.
Gertrude’s body is never found.
Season 2: Jon begins to have an extended breakdown about the existence of tunnels under the institute and all the horrors therein. Tim is out of the Archives for months afterward, needing to be hospitalized for the amount of flesh those worms managed to chew through and Not!Sasha makes sure to tell Jon all about how very wormy the tunnels are, and yes she’s been exploring, and oh no Jon don’t exert yourself, just rely on Reliable Ol Sasha.
When Tim comes back, he’s very much not right. Far more jumpy than he had been previously, sometimes searching for shadows that aren’t there. He tries to lean on Jon’s shoulder, but Jon’s been equally as uneasy and there’s no outlet for it. He begins having doubts about “Sasha” and Tim, who could be argued to be as “changed” by the trauma as Not!Sasha, defends her passionately, all the while “Sasha” seems to be drawing away from the both of them and Jon begins to feel alienated from Tim continuing to take Sasha’s side. By the time Melanie King breezes through and confirms that there’s something off about “Sasha”, Tim is feeling so isolated that even in rooms where he once shone as the center of attention, it’s easy to miss him. There always seems to be a heavy fog curling at his ankles.
Michael still stabs Jon, giving him the spiral mark. Not!Sasha attempts to make her move, marking Jon with the Stranger, and Jon manages to get her trapped in the tunnels by Jurgen. Jurgen attempts to explain and, when Jon goes to smoke, is bonked. Jon is not only blamed for the murder of Jurgen Leitner- when Elias says he “found” secret tunnels and, with officer Daisy Tonner, now partnerless due to a tragic incident in which many officer lives were lost at the site of (now-Dark Avatar host) Callum Brodie’s kidnapping, they manage to find the body of Gertrude Robinson. Jon flees into hiding.
Tim is alone in the Archives. Jon so far has been marked by: Web, Stranger, Spiral, Eye, and Corruption.
Season 3 - The Jon marking gets underway with many of the old beats and some newer ones, such as Karolina Gorka, take the place of marks that otherwise would have been handled in s4. Tim is slowly and steadily deteriorating. Melanie King arrives for her first day of work to an empty Archive with what appears to be the AC turned on just a little too high and absolutely no one to tell her what in the hell she’s even supposed to do, despite Elias’s insistence that Tim is still there. Basira Hussain remains deceased. Jon gains the following marks: Vast, Hunt, Desolation, Buried.
Elias admits to the murders after Jon finally marches back in to him, but no one can do a damn thing about it, and no one can pin the blame on him. No one can find evidence linking him to the murder and [REDACTED] can’t act as a distraction to let someone else find it. Elias will continue to pull the strings tighter and ever tighter. Daisy is no longer able to be blackmailed with Basira, but she is still able to be blackmailed by her considerable record of brutality and murder, and thus becomes Archival Assistant Number 3. Or it would be 3, if anyone could find Tim.
Jon is still kidnapped by the Stranger, but in the end that ritual is left to implode in on itself as Gertrude’s tapes were never recovered. Jon attempts, instead, to pull Tim, his last and final connection to those he knew, out of the lonely. Tim, hollowed out after the deaths of all those he loved and seeing Jon slowly slide toward monsterhood, disappears into the mists and is never seen again.
Jon leaves the lonely without Tim and Tim Stoker is, inevitably, found dead. It was a pathetic existence. He is marked by the Lonely.
Elias takes a nice vacation and lets Peter take the reins of the Institute
Season 4 - The psychological damage and the remnants of the Lonely are so great that Jon falls into an unresponsive state for months, which isn’t helped by proximity to Peter after his failed attempt. Oliver seals his fate with an end mark. The last remaining markings are gotten as usual, with Jon receiving the flesh mark after he manages to make it just in time for that time all that Flesh stormed the Archives. Melanie and Daisy manage to hold it all off with Helen’s help and business goes on as usual, with Melanie getting the ghost bullet cut out of her and giving Jon his slaughter mark before finding a way to quit the institute. Daisy becomes Jon’s sole assistant, and without the joining variable of the Coffin, they never get along.
Jon gains the following marks: Dark, slaughter, flesh, end.
Elias gives Jon the incantation himself and watches Jon end the world.
In the end, Jon never had a choice in the matter. No matter how futilely he tried to stop reading, he couldn’t. And as the Panopticon rose around him and he was left with no anchor to speak of, Jon must dully take on the mantle of the Archive, and tend to his very own ruined world.
I definitely do want to stipulate that I don’t think events would definitely and 100% play out this way without Martin, and there are other things that could substitute Jon’s anchors- if Tim followed up on Vittery, if Basira still lived, or if Melanie never left and instead she and he reconciled, or even the presence of Georgie staying because she knows Jon has no one else. But even in all those scenarios, you’d have to do a lot of work to fill the Martin shaped hole in the center of it all, and that was kind of what this was kinda meant to show vfjhbkjvf
In conclusion: Martin is, himself, a personification of all hope in the series. and that makes his fate a very, very frightening thing indeed.

Hi, yes, hello, I am absolutely desperate for a TMA book. There is just so much potential and it could be so beautiful and I just have a lot of thoughts. Here’s the different directions I have thought it could be taken in:
-          The statements as a collection of short stories (cool, but not my favorite)
-          A novel or a collection of short stories that we don’t hear in the podcast, like Gerry and Gertrude monster-hunting, Georgie and Melanie trying to build a life after the apocalypse, the fates of the avatars after the apocalypse, the life of Jonah Magnus or anything else like that (awesome, 10/10 would read, but not very likely)
-          In-universe non-fiction about the fears and stuff (so amazing, so much potential, I am in love already)
-          Out-of-universe nonfiction with timeline, character profiles and an index of the fears (we have the wiki for this. Wasted potential)
Of these, I like the in-universe non-fiction best, and I have some thoughts about what it could include:
-          An index of the fears complete with manifestations, quotes from the podcast, precautions that can be taken, warning signs to look out for and the like
-          A bit like Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, but about existential dread
-          A pro- and/or epilogue written by Jon and/or Martin, implying that they ended up in our world
-          This could either be warning the reader that this is of course just fiction, don’t worry, or warning them that this is real and it’s coming for you. Take precautions.
-          A timeline of sorts, explaining how it went wrong in their world so it doesn’t happen here
-          It would be glorious if Jonny wrote this irl and Jon wrote it in-universe, so the author-name on the spine was Jonathan Sims, then the shared name would finally do something good
-          Small anecdotes of Jon and Martin’s life Somewhere Else (here) woven into it
-          It would have to be explicitly marketed as non-canonical though, no point in ruining that beautifully ambiguous ending
-          It could also be a collection of the statements with a pro- and/or epilogue as mentioned and framing it as Jon and Martin telling the stories of their world so people can learn from it
-          Perhaps with some of the events that happened in real time in the podcast (the Prentiss attack, when the not-sasha got free from the table, the unknowing and the like) added in statement form, indicating that they wrote them down for the sake of completeness
No matter what kind of book it would be, I also have thoughts on the design:
-          The cover should be black, with the picture beneath on the front, and the green lines extending out and wrapping around the entire book
Tumblr media
-          If we’re really extra, it should be black leather with those bumps on the spine
-          It could have a from the library of Jurgen Leitner bookplate(!)
So yeah. I have a desperate need for something like this, and if it is ever made, which I am still holding out hope for, I will spend whatever amount of money I must to get it.
Please, Jonny or Alex or whoever, I can’t be this obsessed with a story and not have it on my bookshelf!

so after a long convo with @dykivist that started with me talking about Art Student Gerry I now present to you The Magnus Institute College of Art
The main archive crew all met because they have the same shitty advisor (Elias) Who suggested they do the library work study.
Starting with our boy Gerry though, he’s a painting major, but hangs out mostly with design majors, and likes to incorporate words into his paintings. He hangs around the library cause he has beef with a librarian? book arts alumni? weird man who lives in the sewers under the library? that no one else thinks exists (Jurgen Leitner)
Jon is the only one crazy enough to double major. He does Cartooning and Sound Design, and YES Sound Design is an actual major, our department may be lumped in with interactive arts, so our budget, studio space, and hiring resources are all split, but we ARE a REAL MAJOR and what are you talking about I’m not bitter!?
Jon’s animatics are the only ones with sound other than dialogue, and he’s never seen without his little foley mic.
Tim is an illustration major focusing in children’s book illustration because i think that’s cute.
Sasha WAS a graphic design major but quietly switched to animation because she saw this really cool animation of a table.
Martin does ceramics but is a pretty invested in his creative writing minor. He and Jon collaborate to make the coolest slam poetry performance the college has ever seen.
Everyone else is under the cut cause OH BOY
Basira is a graphic design major, and joins the library crew almost immediately after Sasha has to leave the work study because as an animation major she now has No Time, so Basira doesn’t meet Sasha for a while.
She DOES meet a completely different Sasha in the graphic design department, and brings her to lunch with everyone and they’re all SO CONFUSED.
They end up calling this girl Not!Sasha, and while she doesn’t really click with them she shows up occasionally to poke fun at them over the mix up.
Daisy was in the police academy, but dropped out after her furry patreon blew up and she had enough money to go to transfer in. Now she’s That Furry in Tim’s illustration class.
Once she joins the friend group Tim makes a fursona ironically.
Daisy promos it and he gets a lot of new followers but he’s super conflicted about it because they’re FURRIES, and he’s a CHILDREN’S BOOK ILLUSTRATOR!!
Melanie is a Reasonable Film Major who hates all other Film Majors is quoted as saying “FUCK THIS! I’m dropping out to do youtube!” at least twice a day.
One of her student films actually goes viral for a little bit and she uses it to dunk on all the other film majors.
Georgie is a photography major and helps everyone else document their work.
Peter by the way is everyone’s least favorite adjunct professor/board of trustees member. He’s only there to annoy his (currently ex) husband. He teaches exactly one class called The Lonely Artist and it SUCKS. Poor Martin has to take it because it’s the only way he can fill his Art History requirement that semester and he’s suffering.
Gertrude is an art history professor but has been on sabbatical for a suspiciously long time. The only one who’s ever had class with her is Gerry and he insists she’s a very good teacher but he almost died from the work load.
Annabelle Cane is that fibers major who either makes all her own clothes or buys handmade vintage.
John Amherst runs the cafeteria.
Jane Prentiss was a sculpture major who’s thesis revolved mostly around live worms, and they kept turning up EVERYWHERE!!!
Jude Perry is part of a class exchange program with the local business school and decided to take a couple classes here. Every time she something in it's singed around the edges for the aesthetic. She sets her final on fire during crit and isn’t allowed back.
Agnes is a photography major who collabed with her ONE TIME, and now she won’t stop begging to collab again.
Speaking of photography Manuela Domingez is a photo major who refuses to use ANYTHING BUT FILM so she’s always in the dark room. One time Georgie found her asleep in there and got Concerned.
Tumblr media
#FreeJared’sBones
Adelard is everyone’s favorite adjunct professor.
Micheal and Helen are both campus cryptids, no one knows if they're professors or students or ????????? sometimes trippy ass art shows up on display with their names on it but no one can tell what discipline it all comes from. If you ask nicely Micheal will sell you LSD, and Helen will help you find off campus housing.
Helen is actually just an architecture student, and that’s just how architecture students are.
Oliver took a class called The Art of Death sophomore year and got real fucked up about it. Ever since then all of his pieces have involved corpses in some way.
now NIKOLA!!
Nikola uses WAY TOO MUCH GLITTER in her pieces which, considering she’s a Performance Art major, is very concerning.
For some reason Elias requires all of the people he advises to go to her thesis show.
They all get drunk for it but Tim gets black out drunk and ruins the whole thing, and for that he gets his work study revoked so his career in the library dies.
Nikola also writes fanfic and turns it in for assignment. Poor Jon gets stuck reading it out loud when they swap for crit. He has to wash his mouth out with soap after she makes him read “everypony” out loud in front of a class of 20.
