Btw I'm gonna be using mostly the novel for reference here.

So, WRH. First of all, I'd have liked canon info of him, and I know he's just there to fulfil the role of the evil villain during the first part of the story, but I have honestly come to enjoy his character and how ridiculously OP and unapologetic he is. Just a good old classic bad guy that thrives being one.

That being said, I do like that the few info we have also shows that he can care about others. It's very rare and god knows what even are his standards or requirements for that, but something I have discussed with others before is how little he seemed to care about social conventions of his time, like the fact that both MY and WQ were high ranking members of the sect because of their talent and capabilities, and despite being a son of a prostitute and a woman, respectively.

In this vein, i think CQL did him a great diservice putting her and WN in pretty much a hostage situation. That's not to say that he would have take kindly to that branch of the family going against him, but there's a difference between betrayal and actively harming valuable elements for no reason.

(Also the fact that donghua made him a DILF lol)

NOW, going back to the matter of MY, it is very much stated in the book itself that when every other servant had to fall to their knees in WRH's presence, MY was allowed to remain standing and look him in the eye. I know this was just to show how good a job he did earning WRH's trust but asdfghjsdfghj it still does things to my brain!!!

Just how impressed and pleased was WRH with MY to allow him to be so close and take so many liberties??? Also when NMJ was captured and MY was taunting him, WRH intervened when it seemed like NMJ could harm MY. LIKE. I think we can all agree that WRH would be very capable of just letting a random drone be killed for his entertainment, but ACTUALLY and ACTIVELY getting MY out of harm's way??? And they even joked about that together afterwards AAAAHHHH!!!

I don't think it's a stretch to assume that WRH could have seriously considered MY as his new heir since his sons were dead. I mean, the guy probably thought that he would live forever but STILL. And in any case... MY could have been Wen furen.

Like. C'mon!! MY is the poster child of daddy issues (alongside JC), you telling me that he wouldn't have thrived with an older man that recognized his talent and encouraged his natural drive and ambition instead of looking down on him for not staying as the bottom feeder he was "born" to be??? If MY would have changed sides, they would have conquered the world!! And THAT'S what I love so much about this ship!!

Ok, I'm a crazy allyao multishipper, but I have a HUGE soft spot for the ship that would have given MY everything he wanted: safety, power, recognition and care without him having to either give up his ambitions or turn the other cheek and be diplomatic bc society was never going to see him as a worthy person. But as the partner of WRH??? No one would ever be so stupid as to look at him weird ever again!! That's something no other ship can do for him: give him the head of anyone who disrespects him or his mom!!

Also there's this post iirc about how the good guy love interest would always choose what's right over you, but a bad guy love interest would set the world on fire for you and honestly? My poor little meow meow deserves that level of insane devotion after everything he had to go through and how devoted he can be in turn ;u;

Yes! Please keep me updated when you get to that point because I want all of your perspective! Since I haven't read most of the book (just a few scenes to verify certain things) I wanna know if it's as chaotic in the books and if you liked the changes!

LWJ's individual arc is actually something I really enjoyed. WY did a really good job playing it out, from someone who believes wholeheartedly in the rules because his mother died for it so he has to because if he doesn't then does anything matter? and then WWX bursts through the door with like the most minimal but important rules and throughout the story, he learns the difference between doing what's right and doing what's just and when each has its place and its wonderful. I do think that LWJ definitely had more wiggle room to help but that's a convo for another time (and maybe a meta I might write later). And the three months in-between with JC where like JC is a sect leader of a pretty much dead sect and he still makes the time to search for his brother (which is like the 3rd time JC picked WWX over his sect) and he loves him. And then he watches them split and wonders why when they love each other. And knows that JC loves WWX. And LWJ loves WWX too. And there's so much!

I, too, adore W@ngChengX!an! There are so many ways they balance eachother! ChengX!an pre-canon and the angst during the SSC, W@ngX!an during Cloud Recesses, Zh@ncheng after WWX leaves and LWJ wants to learn more about WWX and just learns more about JC too (NHS knows all and introduces them bc I'm always a huge fan of the LXC and NMJ playdates with the baby bros), the three months in between, the 13-16 years in between! The jealousy, the angst, the potential! I could go on for days! (I'm actually planning to do an AllCheng agenda post with various ships and dynamics and ideas because while I can't write fic for shit, I can headcanon my days away).

Their perspectives balance out too! WWX thinks in the broadest perspective of what is Wrong and What is Right, JC is the mid-ground perspective of what are the long-term implcations in society, can it impact how we do other things and how can we plan around it and LWJ (now) thinks of the individual, based on their merit and who they are and becomes less judgemental as a result. I think that's mainly why I don't ship W@ngX!an as much as I could have. But the three of them together have way more going for it (also I have a very specific headcanon that WWX does the flute, LWJ plays the guqin and JC sings the lyrics for WuJi since I feel like a grumpy grape like him must be great at slam poetry and lyrics).

Maybe its because I know that they way my loved ones show that they care is because the question me. They care enough to confront me, to meddle, to ask, to let me rant and help me find my way to the choice that's best for me. So even in the most enabling and unhealthy fics I read, I always want that. The "I will side with you, always, but I want you to know my side too." The vulnerability of opening up and showing what the implications are. The messy fights, the yelling, the poking at soft spots is something I will always want to see.

Like one of my fav scenes is when JC confronts WWX before they decide to stage the fight for this reason! Like you see where their priorities lie and that they both have valid perspectives for the positions they're in but they come to the slow realization that they can't have it all. And WWX I think does want to leave, he doesn't want to pretend he's okay and he doesn't want to spend a second more fronting for the sake of YMJ because he's done enough, fulfilled his debts and he wants a little break before even attempting to come back home (Burial Mounds doesn't sound like a good long-term solution but I also don't think he expected to live long).

LXC is definitely an enabler but I think it's also similar to JYL's response to trauma. And he does like so much for LWJ because he put all his love for his parents and family on his brother (gives me a lot of Itachi and Sasuke vibes but less extreme and with less trauma). So, similar to JC and WWX, when LWJ tells him something in a sure tone, LXC believes it.

Like considering demonic cultivation and resentful energy are so harmful (look at the Nies), it would be like if you're brother came to you and told you that he did some crack and now has superpowers after disappearing for months and you believe him because if WWX told JC the stars were falling, JC would have run for cover without looking at the sky. Like, the amount this man trusts WWX is insane. It might have been despiration but also he knows if anyone can do it, it's his Shixiong. And every scene, he asks, he asks WWX to clarify, to let him know, to let him and I just can't with these boys.

Wang Zhuocheng will always impress me because this was essentially his break out role! And the intro scene where LJY mentions that JC killed WWX so why is he checking in MXY? The flashbacks with his family and how much he yearns to keep them together but we know that its gonna fall apart! And his interactions with Jin Ling (who also did an amazing job in the role) were perfect despite the actors being like one year apart in age! Just all of it was so good and I will never not be impressed!

Okay so I’m not subtle At All about shipping Xicheng but I think that, especially post-canon, there is so much juicy emotional potential in the ways that JC and LXC could work. JC a decade ago (imo) is still too sharp in the edges of his trauma to be a healthy partner for LXC, and I think that LXC would still be too...forgiving? Soft? Distant, even?...that such a sharp JC - for whom love has always been complicated and conditional - wouldn’t feel able to trust his sincerity. I think that from a place of desperation rather than intentional malice, JC would push too far, just to get an authentic reaction, and LXC’s boundaries at that time honestly seem too poor to navigate that kind of interaction in a productive way. (Again, just imo and not at all personal projection.) Basically I think we’d most likely get something akin to Madam Yu and Jiang Fengmian’s dynamic all over again.

But a post-canon scenario in which JC has mellowed a little, has found some measure of stability and coping, and an LXC dealing with the aftermath of being emotionally exploited so deeply? Lotus Pier is a place which is fortified to the teeth and guarded by a man so loyal it’s been a source of torture for him, who shares some degree of Nie Mingjue’s sense of righteousness but tempered with the capacity to recognize that humans are flawed and often mistaken and sometimes terrible, and after so many years with Jin Guangyao, JC is reassuringly straightforward, easy to read, and predictable in his agendas. And if anyone could understand the complexity of emotional abuse and betrayal and feeling complicit/guilty without also judging or victim-blaming LXC, I think it’d be a post-canon JC.

That would be SUPER HANDY??? My only question is how something large enough to safely transport so many people would function according to CQL’s inconsistent Laws of Sorcery. However, CQL does have teleportation talismans, iirc (I think Su She used one as the masked intruder?) so perhaps all disciples and staff (because of course all the staff are trained, too) have such a talisman in their qiankun bag for Emergency Use Only.

I’m reminded of something my elder once told me about hearthkeepers in the spiritual sense. If you look at ‘the hearth’ as the metaphorical center of a community in which the community’s shared identity, history, ancestors, beliefs, and practices are held, then that’s...a lot of power. People tend to shit on ‘hearthkeeping’ both secular and spiritual because of reasons around gendered labor, but they forget that hearthkeepers are also responsible for cutting out those things which risk the well-being of a community. And when it comes to defense...when the warriors fall and the bounds of the home are breached, the last line of defense is, well, the hearthkeeper burning down the house itself because that is, pragmatically speaking, one way to protect your people from the enemy.

I share all that because although JC doesn’t quite fit the way I understand ‘hearthkeeper’ in the spiritual sense (which admittedly can look any number of ways and be shared among people rather than held by a single person), and anyway it doesn’t address differences in cultural context, the idea of the absolute last resort feels relevant somehow: better to die and join the ancestors than be alive and subjected to the enemy. And if he’s internalized that idea, for better or for worse, especially after his torture by the Wens, how might that influence the magical protections and practical policies of his sect?

My brain fogs usually end with me babbling.

This morning @delicatelygloriousphoenix allowed me to babble to them about a thought I had.

And then... It just kept going.

I’m still tired. Here’s a cut version of that conversation.

I had a thought before bed last night 'cause I'm finishing up the extras to SVSSS.

What if someone was reborn into Mo Dao Zu Shi and had to save everyone?

What if Jiang Cheng was the person they were born into? I can't remember the scene properly from the novel, but right before WWX interrupts the summit meeting on Koi/Carp tower, drinks LWJ's booze and accuses Jin Zixun of his labor camp is when this person becomes the new Jiang Cheng. He himself interrupts WWX's rant that nearly falls into a fight and demands that he/Lotus Pier are allowed to keep the rest of the Wens because they burned the place to the ground and therefore have a right to them to rebuild the place.

The argument is quick, and JC is like "I'm taking them" and drags WWX out in surprise. But he turns to LWJ and is like "You comin'?" so of course LWJ comes when he's actually invited to do so. They run off to the camp. JC tries to hurry to get there before Wen Ning is stabbed. They do get there earlier than in the show/novel, but WN is already stabbed (but not dead).

They drag the Wens and an unconscious WN out of the camp. WWX doesn’t go nuts because WN isn’t dead yet and JC is there to lay down some tsundere harshness in his stead.

They have to stop at a village before they get there where Wen Qing can work on her brother and the Wens can rest. JC buys them all rando threadbare robes so they don't stand out as Wens anymore.

Lan Xichen shows up at some point to see if he can't... not so much help as his position won't allow him to take sides on this, but there to 'check on his brother.’ When he gets there, he’s pushed to the inn room where he sees JC focused at WN’s side. He’s giving him spiritual energy while WQ rests nearby. That's LXC’s first little spark of  "Ah, JC is nicer than he first appears."

The Wens are supposed to be 'laborers' to help rebuild Lotus Pier, but JC's really just wanting to make sure that WWX isn't forced off to Burial Mounds and becomes an icon of hatred like the show/novel. And he doesn't have to remove him from the sect entirely.

However, he tells a distracted WWX that he obviously has ideas with his new powers and gives him leave to seclude himself to practice/create/invent but in a safe environment. Jiang Yanli is happy that her brothers are not alone yet able to pursue their separate interests/areas of need.

LXC suggests Gusu taking the Wens as well as 'laborers' since Cloud Recesses was also burned down by the Wens. In reality, they have more safe space for the Wens, it's harder to ambush the 'labor camp' when it's on a mountain peak.

This is where the ALIVE yet healing Wen Ning and Wen Qing ask the Lans to take care of A-Yuan as they are not in the best situation to take care of a child at their camp. This is where LWJ and the frequently visiting WWX basically adopt him.

I mean, if the Wens aren't in danger, WWX has no reason to go back to the burial mounds so of course he’d come to check up on the Wens a lot. Which just means hanging out with A-Yuan and the bunnies often. If LWJ happens to be there with him all the time... well... who’s to say what that means?!

Meanwhile, JC is trying to handle his sect with only a bit of help from WWX here and there, although Wen Qing shows up a lot, as does LXC as a gesture of goodwill and to help the young new sect leader.

JC enjoys being a leader and the System provided him with knowledge and ability to train his new sect. He used to be a salaryman when he was alive, this is far more exciting and much more stimulating.

JC is pretty oblivious that both WQ and LXC are absently crushing on this confident and warmly grumpy JC. He just thinks they like visiting him to talk sect leader stuff or night hunt or... maybe he even thinks they’re his friends.

BUT JC knows his mission is not done, as the System keeps reminding him.

He needs to make sure Jin Guangyao doesn't marry his sister but he can't break OOC or share his knowledge of knowing that JGY and Qin Su are siblings... so he subtly courts Qin Su instead to basically cock block JGY.

Which surprises all but whatever. JC has changed since becoming sect leader, or so they say (really, JC is a different person entirely but ya know).

JC is okay with it, saying Qin Su is a decent woman and pretty enough. He'd be okay if they'd end up marrying, although he's very aware that JGY might try to murder him for taking the girl he likes but he's got his defenses up.

The courting goes on for awhile and JC keeps blocking JGY’s advances where he can but doesn’t go further with his own.

A few years later, JC hosts a birthday party of four year old Jin Ling, with little Lan Sizhui, Lan Jingyi, Ouyang Zizhen among others... so it's a mini sect leader party, too. All of this without going OOC, he's still a grumpy sect leader but he's less feared (like, in the novel, JC was a friggen murderer! He tortured and killed anyone he thought was using WWX's methods or was his incarnation!). People actually seem to like him!

Late night at the party WWX, JC, LWJ, and LXC were hanging out. They suggest going on a boat together because a lot of lanterns were going to be let off in the lakes for JL’s birthday.

JC 'accidentally' spills tea on LXC's robes so he has to excuse himself to change. The others wait by the boat and JC is like "Oop, I changed my mind. I'm going to do something else" and kicks the boat off with LWJ and WWX in it and walks away. He chills in a pavilion a little bit later, watching the lanterns on the water and a few boats out there when LXC comes back. He doesn't even ask when happened and joins him, watching the boat that their brothers are in. LXC and JC haven't talked about it, but they both low key ship LWJ and WWX so they're of agreement.

This event triggers the Wangxian relationship quest. JC is pretty happy that they don’t have to wait 13-16 years before they get to enjoy each other’s company.

And that's when JC himself starts to admire LXC. Not that he hadn't before, they had become friends of sorts from both rebuilding their sects, passing advice to each other, and generally get to complain to each other as young sect leaders. JC kept distance though, knowing LXC’s sworn brothers are his confidants but now and again LXC even lets on a bit of that drama (realizing how much NMJ and JGY are at odds) when JC mentions "they just gotta fuck and get it out of their system"

But yeah, it's during that conversation that JC is like "LXC is actually really attractive and fun to talk to..." crush style.

Then a new mission starts! JC has to team up with LXC to get JGY and NMJ together. All the while JC is loosely courting Qin Su still. Wen Qing has since moved on with her affections (WQ is fast realizing that everyone is gay and instead goes to make out with Mianmian because yes lesbians!).

So LXC realizes that he likes JC but doesn't think he'd be interested because of Qin Su and Wen Qing.

Meanwhile, JC is like "The author said the only gay couple in this novel was WWX and LWJ but!!!?!?!?!??!?!? everyone is gay!?”

At WWX and LWJ's wedding, LXC and JC spy on JGY and NMJ who end up kissing behind a tree. They're tipsy but success! JC gives LXC a high five which amuses LXC because 'wtf is a high five? that's so cute, what a grumpy dork'

JC outright stops courting Qin Su then, which pisses off her sect, that is in close ties with the Jins, which turn their anger towards the Jiang sect. So JC has to fight with the Jins in a political battle, and his sister is preggers with her third kid so she can't help much.

But it's finally JGY that stands up to his father to stop bulling smaller sects. No hard feelings for stealing Qin Su then dumping her, apparently.

It's about this time when Mo Xuanyu shows up and is like "you're my daddy" Lady Jin already hates her husband's illegitimate children but now she's furious, especially after her friend tells her that Jin Guangshan raped her and Qin Su is ALSO an illegitimate child (another reason JGY decides he doesn’t hate JC for cock blocking him).

All this combined, Jin Guangshan is shamed off his throne. Jin ZiXuan takes up a lead and JGY (now renamed Jin Ziyao as is the proper generational name) decides he's happy with not being an asshole (since he's getting good dickings with his boyfriend NMJ and Lady Jin has finally stopped bullying him) and decides that he'd be content, even happy, being his brother's advisor rather than dethroning him for sect leadership.

But of course there's gotta be drama. Shi Su and Jin Zixun are not the smartest of people but they've teamed up with Xue Yang who has a bit of the Iron. Together, they start to plot against the sects to overrule them, because they're dumb idiots with a semblance of power.

That's about as far as my brain went when I fell asleep and then this morning when the brain fog focused on that instead of on work while I was waking up.

Just something about 13 years later, JC and LXC are pretty close but not lovers yet, when something-something adventure and JC and LXC become a thing in a similar manner that WWX and LWJ did in the novel. RANDOM CONFESSION TIME that other people have to point out to them!

So for so long JC doesn't know he's into guys (LXC in particular, kinda like SQQ in SVSSS) but just like JC in the novel, he gets himself blacklisted from the matchmakers. Meanwhile, this whole time his very close friend, LXC (they're really close now since JGY and NMJ are a couple so he doesn't like to third wheel it and instead spend his time with JC) things that JC is straight and lowkey crushes on him for 13-16 years before WWX and LWJ have to spell it out to them.

What if Jin Zixun tries to take the sect leader throne or something. He'd be next in line if jin Zixuan didn't die and JGY didn't step up.

Oh yes, JC and WWX are a very well written sibling relationship, just like all the others! Each one is different, and that's what makes them unique, I don't think I've ever seen a series with such well written, and well developing, relationships! Even though it is very heartbreaking, indeed, and I'm still sad that JC and WWX didn't get to reconcile in the end... although that was plausible. "What am I supposed to do? Say thank you, and then sorry?" sums it up p well -✨

as JC cannot change the past anymore, he now knows that WWX was not the one mainly responsible for all the terrible things but after all that happened I understand that there is no reconciliation, even though it does break my heart. The friendships between WN and WWX/NHS and WWX are some of my favourites as well! Especially NHS and WWX, they're just so innocent in the beginning and seeing how time changes them is very interesting. My fav sibling dynamic to explore is NHS and NMJ, though! -✨

It's very interesting how different they are, and obviously NHS loved NMJ a great deal, while NMJ was rather strict to him... I'm also not ashamed of saying I love modern AUs where they're best bros. One of my favourite modern AU things, though, is platonic 3zun and WWX/NHS//JYL/JZX all coexisting and 3zun being excited brothers about everything. Now, do you enjoy reading modern AUs? And what's your favourite fanfic plot/trope, no matter if set in canon or AU? -✨

Ugh, the variation and depth to all the sibling and friend relationships in MDZS are just 👏 so 👏 good! It really makes it difficult to pick favourites sometimes, doesn’t it? I adore Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng and knew from the get go they were my favourite siblings, but then you have their interactions with Yanli too who is, best older sister right there alongside Wen Qing. I have a bit of a weakness for well written sibling bonds, so finding so many in the series without expecting it? Honestly, it just made me love the series all the more 💖

I absolutely agree with you! Half the heartache of Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng’s lack of reconciliation is just ... where do you even begin, really? All either of them ever wanted to do was protect the other, and look what happened. There’s a lot of anger and resentment (on Jiang Cheng’s part at least) there, but also a lot of yearning and sadness. Because they love each other so dearly and both want to be brothers again, but they’re older now and know that sometimes, you just can’t return to the way things were 💔

I actually sort of see the end of the drama as rather hopeful for their relationship, though. Because the important thing (at least on Wei Wuxian’s part) has been talked about, and even if Jiang Cheng is still struggling with the golden core reveal, it’s the step forward they needed. Jin Ling knows the two of them want to talk and sort things out but are too stubborn to do so ... but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jin Ling ends up bringing them together somehow. He is, after all, their sisters’ son for all he seems to mirror Jiang Cheng. Jin Ling has her caring side and the stubborn side to likely lock them in a room together until they talked things through 😂

The Nie brothers are so interesting! They care so much (enough that Nie Huaisang came up with the ultimate revenge plan. Honestly, what a king 👑). Have you had a chance to watch Fatal Journey with them at all? It’s high up on my to watch list, and it looks so intriguing! To be honest I think Huaisang is just an incredible character anyway. His brother is a little strict, yes, but it feels like tough love to me. Mingjue knows what Huaisang is really capable of and what potential he has, even with the facade Huaisang puts up for the rest of the world. 

Oh, I love reading modern AU’s 😍 Since we’ve shared fic recs before CC, here are a few good ones I’ve read recently: Martial Claims by yeolinski, I’ll have you and you’ll have me by sundiscus and These Things Stay the Same by notevenyou.

As for tropes ... oh, wow. It sort of depends on the pairing and the story. I’ve read a lot of fic set in settings that I never thought I’d like half as much as I do, and a lot of the time it’s down to how good the writing is! As clique as it sounds, I do enjoy a good coffee shop or college au from time to time. But I also really enjoy things like ‘meeting in a bookstore’ or ‘flowershop au’s’. I think my favourite tropes are sort of getting together, mutual pining, miscommunication and a lot of fluff and comfort smut is always welcome too, but sometimes it’s not necessary if the story doesn’t feel it needs it, you know? 

At the moment, I have found that I am yearning for a good ice skating!wangxian fic. I think that’s due to a mix of me thinking it would be perfect for them, watching this ice skating performance too many times for it to be regarded as healthy, desperately missing watching ice skating on the telly, the announcement for more Yuri on Ice a while back, and it just being winter time 😅 (Plus like ... wangxian ice skating to songs Lan Wangji writes and creates for Wei Wuxian them? Perfect!)

I have found that for wangxian (since that’s the Untamed ship I read the most) that I prefer modern AU’s for the getting together, and canon more for established relationships / exploring already existing character connections. Not saying it doesn’t switch out between the two ever, but I just seem to gravitate to that more. 

I know you mentioned before you often write darker fic, but do you have any specific tropes you enjoy reading or writing more than others?

Oh! And while I remember and we’re on the topic of fic, if you enjoy the Nie brothers, I also recommend the fic The Light that Fails to Dim by glowingreverie. It includes a Wei Wuxian that is found and adopted by the Nie sect, Nie brothers (there are three of them with Wei Ying included!), Wei Wuxian still having connections to the Jiang clang, and is honestly just such an unusual yet interesting take on things that I think you’d really enjoy it! 💖

 I like nielian. I am a fan of jin ling/lan jingyi. I think there’s a lot of gremlin potential… once they both grow up a bit. Oyzz is funny but I don’t ship him. And I don’t ship lsz with people either… Oh! songxiao is so good! I love songxiao! But xue yang doesn’t have a place in there. I want JC to be happy so sangcheng and xicheng are both ok depending on context. I wouldn’t be opposed to pairing him up with other but those are the most common. I also love Aro/Ace JC headcanons. Yes, my Wuji is very unruly and a menace but in the best way. One minute I’ll be mad at him because he’s clawing his way up my curtains and the next I’ll be going awww because he just purrs almost every time I hold him! And he’s a smart gremlin! he’s figured out how to open one of the doors, so whenever we put him in that room, he’s able to open it and come back on his own. 

Hmm, your clue doesn’t narrow it down much!! There’s soo many people who have made gifs for mdzsnet events: both members and non-members! But I’m gonna keep an eye out now!

I agree with songxiao but no xue yang! Poor songxiao deserved so much better and thinking about them is just soooo painful! I’m cool with aro/ace JC, or paired up with Wen Qing/NHS/Xichen (just let JC be happy whichever way it goes!) although I don’t search out fics with any of these pairings. I’m fine with this if it’s part of a fic I’m already reading though. 

Now, on to my headcanons:

1) Yes, definitely autistic LWJ and ADHD WWX. 

2) In canon, since wwx’s core was transferred and not crushed, he can cultivate a core again post-canon and live happily ever after with LWJ. 

3) WWX comes back in his own body and appearance (although this is more an extreme preference for xz!wwx and deep discomfort for mxy-body!wwx than a headcanon)

4) Wen Qing survived and post-canon reunites with wen ning and a-yuan.

5) LWJ likes being chief cultivator and wwx likes being able to call Cloud Recesses with LWJ his home. Especially since the poor guy has either lost his previous homes or not been able to have a steady place to call home in the past, I think he’d really love having the sense of security that he can return to CR and lwj even if he goes out to travel for a while. 

6) wwx and lwj are not really *oblivious*, they know/realise at some point in canon (- I once thought of you as my soulmate - I still am!!!!!) that there’s something there but they just haven’t had the chance to talk about it or act on it with the war and then hiding and death and all the chaos during canon. 

7) mianmian and lwj are friends

Yes, I posted it but I am not sure about where to take the story… I wanted to write angst but also fluff but aaah I am better at writing drama in the end ;c Omg in my story there’s something related to Sizhui’s heritage too, but I made JC not taking it so well. That’s the whole fic basically haha I like both routes for your fics, I think they would fit the plot. (1)

But my tastes are closer to angst haha so if you decide to include that in Summer Heat, I would be expecting to see how you develop the idea. In my headcanons I can also picture Sizhui like a soothing presence in JC’s life, like his sister was. JC needs someone that doesn’t stress him more than he already is haha. I can picture JC overthinking presents for Sizhui and aaaaah how cute that would be. I imagine Jin Ling with a teenage crush on Sizhui and it’s just too cute (2

Oh! Is it called "All I Wanted" and did you post it on AO3? If so, I read it!!! The first chapter was good (like LSZ accepting the marriage out of duty, and how tense LWJ and WWX were about it, and Jin Ling's reaction in it was very good.) But stories do take some time to develop/plan ahead for, admittedly~ I kinda prefer writing fluff with small bits of angst myself, so even if the paths rough I generally plan for a happy ending. But drama/writing drama is good too. But ooh! Got it!! That sounds sad/promising. But oof, which is gonna suck for both JC and SiZhui. But thank you~!!

Right! Which there's. still a lot I have to decide on for it still/have to figure out for it still. But I'd think it out carefully. But yes, definitely a soothing presence/a calming influence, and JC being with someone calm/centered is good. But I'm glad you think it's cute too~ But I can see why you would think Jin Ling having a crush on SiZhui would be cute, especially given that they have a few things in common (orphans, for one, and both are talented with cultivation techniques. And they seem to become close post-canon too if they night hunt together often along with JingYi.)

But I can definitely see how it would make it more difficult if its a arranged marriage over them choosing to, oof. And probably would take a lot of adjusting too all in all. But JC is pretty easy to ship in general, true, and it can be fun to see how people play off his personality in contrast to whoever they've paired him up with. But I've seen people talk about JC/LWJ before, and them doing it out of a desire/urge to comfort one another I can kind of see. They worked together pretty well during the Sunshot Campaign from what I understand, so... But rarepairs/weird ships do tend to be kinda hard to find, but with time hopefully more will come up/get posted. But oh, is it~? Its good if it is~ But I try to be open-minded too about ships ahaha.

But I do get what you mean about people getting overprotective about ships, oof. And people can get rather scary over them. (Part of why Summer Heat and Transparent Desire are under anon on AO3 is out of precaution/taking steps to be careful with it all.) But I enjoyed talking with you about ChengZhui~! why do these 2 have the cutest conversations on rooftops

i mean granted they (lwj and wwx) have cute conversations in lots of places, but ALL their rooftop convos are cute in some way. i hope it’s not just so they can have an angsty rooftop conversation later that feels even worse because it’s reminiscent of these earlier cute ones

lwj is so clearly worried about him. and trusts him! this hurts me. wwx even knows that lwj is worried as opposed to judgy! my heart!!

in retrospect this scene is kinda ludicrous because wwx promises he won’t ever use demonic cultivation (which is weird bc he must have known he would be doing it sooner or later in front of lwj?) and lwj believes him, and then later this very same episode wwx whips out ol’ flamey and goes to town on some resentful energy in the middle of a battlefield

though in fairness he did wait until the last possible second when basically everyone was already dead before being like “i guess i have to actually use my awesome powers that i’ve been hiding since there’s no other option”

MZDS AU where LXC and LWJ’s dad goes on the run with his gf instead of capturing her and basically imprisoning them both. They disguise themselves and eventually start traveling with WWX’s parents, meaning they don’t die in a night hunt bc backup from Murder Mom and Dad who is very righteous and dedicated to following the Lan traditions especially the ones about True Love. 

After she’s raped by the Jin sect leader, the Su sect leader’s wife denounces him everywhere by sending letters and also goes on the run (possibly because her husband refuses to believe her that it wasn’t consensual/she’s concerned for the child?).

Madam Jin, with the assistance of Madam Yu, has JGS assassinated and Madam Jin like lets it be known that she’s willing to take in her husband’s bastards/see them raised right. JGY’s mom can’t leave the brothel bc she’s property and her son’s too young to travel on his own, so she sends a letter asking if they could pick him up - Madam Jin shows up and buys her, figuring she could use some help with the children - and she can also tutor the girls in music and such. JGY and QS grow up sibs and QS beats up people who make fun of JGY for his mom being an ex-prostitute.

With the example of his parents, LWJ is much more aware of Feelings and decides at a young age that Wei Ying Is Mine. LWJ doesn’t initiate Getting Into Trouble, but he goes along with Wei Ying bc Must Protec and draws graffiti, steals chickens and jumps off cliffs bc Wei Ying was doing it. Wei Ying is like ‘sure I’ll marry Lan Zhan when I grow up!’ Their parents aww except Murder Mom, who is awwing internally. LXC is desensitized to shenanigans by growing up with the shenanigans of Wei Ying and Wei Ying’s other half and develops epic level chill. He has seen it all.

WWX’s parents and the people who aren’t the AWOL Lan sect leader and his murder gf go and visit the Jiangs every so often. WWX never develops a fear of dogs (and actually fails to develop a sane level of fear of anything, because his parents are badass cultivators and he has Lan Zhan to protect him too), so they’re fine playing with Jiang Cheng and his puppies. Madam Yu and Murder Mom got along GREAT and Murder Mom may have been the one to dress up as a Wen Sect cultivator and kill JGS. LXC and JYL hanging out being the chill sibs. It’s discovered that JYL isn’t suited to the Jiang sect’s method of cultivation, so she goes and visits the other sects to study cultivation techniques and gets good results with the Nie methods, which makes JC go wha. Madam Yu is Very Pleased. NHS starts calling her big sis and JC is Jealous.

The parents decide to all send their kids to the Lan sect at the same time. LQR is Concerned about his nephews growing up with Murder Sis-in-Law but they’re such calm, dutiful boys-and then Wei Ying yells to Lan Zhan about going on a booze run and LWJ is out while LXC sips his tea. WWX and LWJ hanging out in the library pavillion copying texts together.

JZX still does Teenage Rebellion claiming he’s too good for JYL, which makes JC and his dogs growl at him while WWX just points and laughs, because JYL is fantastic and JZX is a dumbass if he can’t see how great she is. JZX having his sexual awakening when JYL gets back from the Nie sect and he sees her practicing with a saber as big as she is. Unfortunately NHS wrote to NMJ about JZX dissing JYL and NMJ showed up at Lotus Pier to make it very clear that if her engagement were to fall through, clearly she belongs at Nie Sect (the brothers each ship each other with JYL). JZX realizing that crap, his competition is NMJ...

As LWJ’s fiancee, WWX competes for the Lan sect at the discussion conference and the Wens demand he gets sent along with the Lan sect disciples for the turtle incident. On the run, LXC runs into JGY and QS, who are night hunting. JGY laments that his type is slightly older guys with ridiculous upper body strength - he already had a crush on NMJ and now here’s this loser who tears apart their clothing when he does the laundry and all JGY can think about is LXC tearing his clothing off him.

With their kids at Lan Sect (LXC learning to be heir), Murder Mom and Ultra Lan Dad plus WWX’s parents were hanging out at the Jiangs until the Wens demand Jiang sect disciples too. Murder Mom stalks after them, sneaks into the camp, finds out what happened at Lan sect and when Wen Chao heads into the wilderness the four parents start picking off the guards one by one. They rescue the kids from the turtle and bring them back to Lotus Pier, where the Wens attack and Madam Yu demands they get Jiang Cheng to safety. Not sure how to have stuff play out from this point on, however we do need - 

JGY drooling over LXC and NMJ and Qin Su over Wen Qing and the two half-sibs conspiring together.

JZX postwar trying to develop some muscles to Win Back JYL

LWJ not giving a damn that WWX won’t be accepted into Lan sect as a demonic cultivator - they’ll just continue nighthunting with his Murder Mom.

Wen Ning crushing on WWX but finding LWJ intimidating up until he sees LWJ with his poker face doing ridiculous stuff because WWX is, at which point he despairs of them both. Wen Ning trying desperately to wrangle drunk!WWX and LWJ. LWJ being aware of WN’s crush and being like ‘ah yes, good taste that cultivator.’ Like. WWX has been His for basically as long as LWJ can remember, it doesn’t really occur to him to be jealous? It’s not like there’s any chance of him losing WWX, although when he’s in danger of losing WWX like WWX getting killed LWJ goes and shows that he’s Murder Mom’s son. Eventually a threesome happens via WWX deciding to offer to With Benefits Wen Ning and LWJ seducing along with WWX bc they do everything together.
