Could you do a story with Bill meeting the readers (f) family for the first time? Like the reader is Baltic (preferebly Lithuanian) and she flew Bill to her home country for him to meet her family.
Its okay if you dont want to do it! But an early thanks if you do!💗 (Btw im in love with your writting like😍)
it's hard but i tried !
˖°🦇ִ ࣪𖤐 bill x fem! reader fluff
"you'll do fine, love." you reassured your boyfriend, who is currently pacing around the room in a nervous panic.
"but what if your family don't like me, schatz? what if I screw up and they pressure you to leave me for good?!" he stopped his steps and turned to face you, a frantic expression on his face.
"they won't, honey, I know my family." you chuckled, getting up and walking over to him to pat his back, "deep breaths."
he inhaled and exhaled several times, before mumbling, "you sure?"
"yes, I'm sure." you smiled, before leaving a quick, chaste kiss on his lips, "now come on, let's go otherwise we'll be late."
"alright." he smiled, taking your hand in his and leading you out of the hotel room.
𓆩♱𓆪
it took you both a couple of minutes to reach your parents' house, but upon arrival, you could notice that it was rather lively inside. you turned to notice Bill standing by the car, trying to collect himself before he went in with you.
you approached him and brushed your hand against his shoulder, to which he responded with a smile. you kissed his forehead to soothe his nerves, and it helped just a little bit.
you stepped into the foyer, taking your heels off before entering the house. Bill followed suit, and placed his boots right next to yours.
it was a little gesture, but it was still cute to you.
you guided him into the kitchen and the minute you were greeted by your mother, heads turned and eyes fixated on the two of you. Bill gave them an awkward smile.
your aunts flocked to you, asking about your boyfriend.
"what's your name?"
"why do you look so skinny?"
"what do you work as?"
"why do you dress so funny?"
"any siblings?"
those were just the tip of the iceberg your family asked about him. as your family members surrounded him like a pigeon to a piece of stale bread, your mother pulled you aside.
"y/n, that's Bill?" she asked, judgingly.
"mom, you said you wouldn't." you responded with a huff.
"I know, but doesn't he look like a girl?" she continued, "why settle for him when there's so many others out there in the world?"
"mom, please," you grumbled, "I love him, okay? he's a great guy with a great heart and you just need to accept him."
"and he's so skinny, too. and look at how he dresses, are you sure he isn't gay?" she whispered, "y/n, I-"
"there's nothing wrong with being skinny, right?" you crossed your arms, "I think he dresses well, and I don't care if he's gay or not."
"dear, please, it's for your own good." she sighed, "a guy like him won't be able to sustain you for so long!"
"it's not that!" you said, irritated by your mother's judgemental personality, "I love him and end of story. you won't force me to break up with him."
"you'll know what I'm talking about in the future," she sighed, "in the mean time, give this plate to him."
she reached over and grabbed a plate full of food, and handed it to you. you walked over to Bill, who was now resting with the kids near the television and sat next to him.
"I overheard you and your mom arguing just now," he mumbled, "what's wrong?"
"she's just being judgy again." you grumbled.
"oh," he seemed to droop, before he asked, "was it about me?"
"yeah." you sighed, "but listen, okay? they'll come around, or maybe they'll never, but it won't seperate me from you."
you felt him ease up and before you knew it, he had placed a kiss on your cheek. he said softly, "I love you, you know that, right?"
"yeah, I do." you smiled, "I love you too."

Hey! Since you're from Estonia (I assume based on your posts) I wanted to ask if you had any Estonian songs to recommend? Any genre etc, I just really love listening to songs of lesser known languages (never heard anything Estonian before! I've heard it's similar to Finnish though? :0)
OHOHO DO I!!! Absolutely, there's SO many really beautiful (and some fun ones) estonian songs that I'd love to share if you're willing to listen!! For a very simple answer, I'll say go listen to the band Trad.Attack ("Saada Vihma" is my favorite). But I'll leave some specific reqs under cut of varying genres so you can take your pick?
Trad.Attack - "Saada Vihma" (Send Rain) "Send rain, oh oh... Towards our land, oh oh... Father of the skies, oh oh... Send rain, oh oh... If only it would rain, my mama coulda' sleep, If it poured, she would doze off quietly. If only it would rain, my papa coulda' sleep, If it poured, he would doze off quietly..." Trad.Attack is ALWAYS my no. 1 recommendation for anyone who wants to listen to funky Estonian music. They incorporate old Estonian folk songs and instruments into ones with modern elements, often with absolutely incredible instrumentals, and every one of them slaps HARD. This one's my personal favorite though. Extremely funky music, sometimes soothing to fall asleep to, sometimes the hypest shit you've heard. A few more of my favorites from them: "Tehke Ruumi" (Make room) (Eng TL is in the video desription) "Sõit" (Drive) (Eng TL in the video description)
Ursula - "Tiffer" An old classic, a staple karaoke song here that still makes me laugh and wanna dance along "I can't hear you, you can't hear me... When you came to me in a skirt I pulled you aside with a bemar and spilled: "Babe, nice legs, nice top!" You replied "huh, me?!"" (Im not translating the rest)
"Mis kuradi kohas me elan?" (What damned place do I live in?) (Eng TL) This one has an older version in an old dialect and a modern rendition too! Both sound really good, very melancholy yet feel-good and hopeful
Metsatöll - "Oma Laulu ei Leia ma üles" (I cannot find my song) (Eng TL) A rock one! From an old and very highly regarded band
5MIINUST, Puuluup - "(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi" (We (really) don't know anything about (these) drugs) (Eng TL) A recent electro pop-sounding one that's been doing well on the radio, but it IS damn catchy. Also an Eurovision song so, go figure. And always extra respect for songs that implement traditional Estonian instruments Mari pokinen - "Õnn ja Arm" (Happiness and Love) (Eng TL) A really pretty one with hauntingly pretty singing, the instrumental kicks in after like a full minute
Mick Pedaja - "Sõba silmale" (Wink of Sleep) This one's really soothing and dear to me and makes me cry "Where, my darling, is the swamp with your pulse? Where you left your wounds locked away? Where, my darling, is the dirt you rest on? May you catch a wink of sleep now..."
Sorry this is a lot lol. There's so many!! I get very giddy about sharing Estonian songs and in kind, I love listening to songs of smaller languages like Latvian and Lithuanian
And yes, Estonian is similar to Finnish lol. Finnish sounds like drunk Estonian to us, and Estonian sounds like drunk Finnish to the Fins

Hi! I understand if you don't feel like sharing it ,but i really would like to read your meta about that Henry/Anne scene in BSR ''Isn't that enough?''. I hope you have a nice day.
"is it enough for you?" , but yes, i actually elaborated on this a little more elsewhere in other tags because i used that shot of that scene again for another edit.
so, expanding where i left off:
the images chosen are more the vibe for the quotes but the one from BSR is very specific
it's a great scene and it's so well-acted bcus she feels BAD for him here.
she pities him. she feels bad for him because he's losing her bcs she's not going to settle for these terms
because she knows she's amazing
and she's so self-posessed in the scene
and he cannot handle this and so it manifests in the reaction(you're making a big mistake; except that is his own big projection)
she's willful and knows her worth and won't diminish herself for anyone
...and i chose the reaction from the scene bcus it's not necessarily at odds with these descriptions (of her 'prudence')
bcs it takes a lot of dignity and self-worth and inward grace to stand one's ground enough (to withstand the 'tide of their prince')
...to give that rejection that by all social and cultural norms and graces she was simply not supposed to give. or was at least supposed to couch in more self-effacing terms.
but yeah anyway i know people thought BSR was 'trashy' but i actually thought the acting and chemistry between them was really great and maybe even lifted the writing from its weaker points.
because just the way he reels back at the line 'is it enough for you?' in all its pity-wrought glory...firstly, because it seems like it's a question no one has ever thought to ask him before, and secondly, so it gives way into that transformation from the shock into anger (how a 'lesser' person is daring to pity him, how he doesn't want her pity, he wants her love) which is just...chef's kiss. she absolutely obliterates his dignity here, not only in her rejection but in this eloquent explanation as to why this is her answer, and in the finality of her conviction. it is delicious. they could have this scene anywhere, in this darkened staircase for its the tudors copycat setting in this lithuanian palace, or on a fucking greenscreen, and it would still be just as powerful if these were its actors.
(im realizing that if anyone who is reading this hasn't watched they're going to think i'm an insane person based on this description... so hopefully the actual beats of the scene below will reveal what i mean, lol:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's also a compelling subversion of (modern) expectation here, because...the only different thing in this equation is the status of the man asking to love her, asking why love is 'not enough'. for most 16c women of anne's status, no, 'love' wasn't enough. security was preferred. and, actually, it's very anachronistic how much this opinion is villianized (see, tobg:
Tumblr media
...when it's like...yeah, a man's love was considered worthless. if it wasn't, they wouldn't have considered betrothal contracts to be a necessary evil!). it's very easy for him to say that she would 'want for nothing' (households, jewels, etc, one assumes), and she isn't allowing his ease: she's contradicting him, and pointing out that there is little security in the position of royal mistress.
herein lies the constant counterfactual moralistic tutting: anne 'should've just become a mistress,' always paired with 'this would, in the end, have made her 'safer.'' and it would have, as we know (not anne), but it would also, as she points out here, likely lead into her being a nonentity (a voice on the pillow, a woman hiding underneath the sheets and behind the bed curtains, an ornament for dancing), and she didn't want to be one: she wanted to be partner and collaborator of her future husband, not the diversion and darling of someone else's.
tl;dr the scene is powerful because she feels bad for him (she feels bad for herself, too, but she only allows him to see the former:

It was either today or yesterday, actually it was yesterday thinking about it cuz my boss was there, yesterday at work i had two polish people on my tour. At one point theyre up at the front with me, the woman speaks english but her husband does not. A girl next to them in line asked if they were polish and spoke a teeny bit of polish to them. Her grandmother was from poland. She said she only knew like a few sentences in polish, and they were like ah! yeah! cool :) and i said Omg thats neat! My lineage is polish lithuanian! Small world! And the polish lady goes, oh do you know what polish town youre from? And i said No, my family emigrated to lithuania after poland and I know more about their lives in lithuania than I do about their lives in poland. And she goes mmmmm yeahhhhhh a lot of people say they have polish ancestors but when it really comes down to it they dont actually know what town and theyre not actually polish. BITCH... MY LAST NAME IS A DERIVATIVE OF WOJTEK. EXCUSE THE FUCK OUT OF YOU. IT WAS 150 YEARS AGO! I DONT REMEMBER MY GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GRAND BUBBES TOWN OF BIRTH DAWG. I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TOWN MY CURRENT LIVING GRANDMOTHERS WERE BORN IN. whaddaya want from me. I just said, yeah well. i could tell you the town were from in lithuania. my last name is still lithuanian. like fr man. Cmon. Im white as shit and my family is from chicopee yes we are fucking polish lithuanian. Like there isnt an overlap of population there? I was literally just making polite conversation and youre like HMMMM POSER. Bitch! im fucking polish! How the fuck would u know?

i dont have a following here lol, just on ao3, but if you have somehow stalked me enough to find my tumblr, then heres some little answers to common questions.
IM SORRY I FORGOT WHO I GOT THIS FROM :/
How many works do you have on Ao3? 15
2. What's your total Ao3 word count? God i dont know, im too lazy to count. By rounding up and down on works I have 203K
3. What are you top fics by kudos? Thats a really fantastic question /j Probably my Fyodor / Nikolai BSD fic that I have crossposted here, or a Simeon / MC Obey Me! fic called "Lament."
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I ALWAYS DO OMFG I LOVE COMMENTS GIVE ME MORE <33
5. What's the fic you've written with the angtiest ending? I don't really write angst because it makes me cryyyy but I have one angst fic I wrote for a friend that was a SSKK fic, it had a kinda happy ending but everybody except the main pair died. It's called "The Pear Blossoms are Always Sweeter in Winter".
6. What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? Like- all of them? If I had to pick one it would be a Rui / Tsukasa fic called "From Heart to Soul and Back Again"
7. Do you write crossovers? Yes, not often though. Most of mine are unposted.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic? No, not yet. All of my stuff has "Don't like don't read" in the notes.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes. I usually write queer fics in general because I myself am a queer enby (masc leaning) person. because of this I think I write MxM smut the most often, follwed by FxF and then MxF.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yeah. And that stolen fic has more kudos than mine 😭
11. Have you ever had a fic translated? I translate my own usually, but I have a friend who enjoys translating my fics into Lithuanian for their friends. I usually help them because my Lithuanian is so-so.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Only once, and it was posted to Wattpad. I'm not sure if anybody could find it, but it was called "Collab Fic: 3 Minds, 2 Hearts.
13. What's your all-time favorite ship? Don't ever ask me that /j It changes so often I literally can't pick. I think currently it's Akito / Touya? It's the ship I'm currently writing for anyways.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? An original work that's well over 500K words but I'm too lazy to send it to a publisher.
15. What are your writing strengths? ... I write smut well according to my friends.
16. What are your writing weaknesses? Writing straight fanfic.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I do that a lot. I get some anger because I forget that not everyone can understand it-
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for? This is embarrassing but the Dream SMP!!! 😭
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to? I haven't written for Minori / Haruka yet, but I have a WIP that I just started...
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? Jesus I hate to say this but a fanfic I wrote for my highschool Japanese textbook-

i agree w the notes !! i hadnt noticed the scarf stuff but it makes a lot of sense. nice catch !
sorry the brain fog is taking a bit. i love that u have a notebook for that btw. if you ever end up watching manhunter, it's an ok adaptation of the book red dragon. im kind of insane about red dragon willnibal and manhunter willnibal : i think manhunter will is VERY different from red dragon will, in bad ways, but both are kind of insane to me. i have book fandesigns but idk if its worth posting the content bc everyone is so used to NBC ? but then again i literally draw manhunter designs which are from a movie literally Two people in the fandom have seen so
i like ur interpretation of hannibals feelings for will ! i do have a bit of trouble being as optimistic about it as other people in the fandom. i kind of don't really know where the control freakism starts and where it ends w his feelings for him. you're right that he didn't choose who he loves, which i'm sure made him ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS, BECAUSE HOW DARE, but also so he can play chess with will properly instead of just making him a pawn he does have to relinquish some control... and he can't just detach himself emotionally from the situation, he's in love... but then it means he has to give up control. i love willnibal so much, i love writing it so much, it's so fucking complicated.
also i love the italian nicknames they're so cute :) i love the idea of italian nicknames in general. hope u can kick ur friends ass !! i do love the idea of will trying to connect w hannibal thru languages. italian seems like a good middle ground, lithuanian is really pushing it too far imho. remembers lovingly that mspaint comic i made w will thinking it would be a VERY good idea to practice saying "i love you" in lithuanian and chiyoh begging him to stop because it was the worst idea alive
Hello again, sorry I was at a wedding last night trying to wrangle small children that aren't mine.
My notes have like insightful little quips and then bullshit like: "Fucking monster. Licked a newspaper." Like, ah yes. They're going to give the cannibal glue. No, no they won't. But he sure did lick that newspaper for his weird little scrapbook.
I'm not going to lie, the reason I've actually thought about watching Manhunter is cause of you. My one friend told me the movie isn't very good (I'm notoriously bad at watching bad films) but I wanted to be able to interact with your art for those things because I like your art so much. Also now that I am an unhinged Hannibal fan, he got me to watch Hannibal Rising (i think I told him I wanted my time and money back), SOTL and Red Dragon. My first thought when seeing Norton as Will was "Really? The fight club guy?" But i remember so little of the film other than 'wow, Freddie Lounds is a dick whether he has one or not' and 'hehehe exercise leash'. And then with SOTL I was like "wow, good thing all these characters appear to be the pinnacle of mental health." But they sure didn't seep into my brain. I might try watching them again. But I def want to watch Manhunter. Give me insane. I'm down for the sickness (brain rot).
Also, give me the fan designs. I'm still a partial Witcher fan, so I love seeing the book designs people come up with. I love that for people! I love that for me!
The weird thing about Hannibal's feelings is that he's so blasé about them. I think at first he saw Will, and was intrigued about the potential of being seen. But clearly it wasn't the superpower it was practically claimed to be. After all, Will looked him dead in the eyes and didn't see the creature behind the veil. But maybe Hannibal saw something else in those eyes that wouldn't settle. Like a feral animal curled into itself, eyes darting around, looking for the best and quickest exit. Unlike when he met Lass, who was hardworking and smart, he kept her because of that intelligence. Will had something, but he wasn't sure what. And I think that's why when he says he was curious about what Will would have done with Hobbs when he had placed that phone call, I believe him. Will was either going to be another of Jack's bloodhounds stolen from under his nose, or he was going to be something else. I think that Hannibal struggles with some form of depression, the surface level attachments to his creature comforts, so the boredom is stifling. Hannibal himself is so incredibly nuanced and shifts from "Will is my friend" to "Guess I have to eat him" in the same conversation. I don't think Will was ever safe from Hannibal's knife. At least not until like S3 finale. The issue with an emotion you're not used to is its volatile, and we can see that in how Hannibal talks of Will and to Will. I do think that he joined Jack in helping to groom Will to kill himself, because it would be a worthy challenge.
I know some of the Fandom elevate Will to a god-adjacent status in Hannibal's eyes. But again, I think that comes and goes. I think there are moments where Hannibal looks at Will and sees the God of Righteous Fury, and other times he sees the man who is ruining his life. Hannibal's body language and facial expressions are all very neutral (props to Mads Mikkelsen for that), so you have to watch his eyes and mouth for the smallest flickers. And they are small. Matthew Brown was a fool and a tool, but he was right about the eyes.
NBC Hannibal's past is very patchwork-y but from what I could scrape together he would have stopped speaking Lithuanian around the time he was mute, would have shifted into at least understanding or attempting to understand Russian (soviet occupied Lithuania) before he fled to France. In France he was still a mute. NBC specifically said his Uncle Robertus took him in at 16. Boarding school. So we can assume he learned French in boarding school. Japanese would have been next up, Lady Murasaki and Chiyoh would have used it to speak to each other, both so far from home, it would have helped ease the homesickness. So I do believe Hannibal would have learned Japanese. But Japanese would be tied to another heartbreak (like Lithuanian) when Murasaki sends Hannibal away after he refuses to stop stabbing people. He goes to his mother's homeland of Italy, and eventually settles in Florence, where he learns Italian and comes to grow into the man we know today. So that's why I advocated hard for Italian nicknames. And why I think that language for Hannibal is important, but also an insane field filled with landmines.
Welcome to my Hannibal TedTalk lmao
And I will kick his butt, because I want to write suburban murder husbands calling each other il mio mostro and il mio tutto, and I think we chose a German nickname for Abbie, but I don't remember it now. Had to look it up Jägerin, for huntress. Cause we're unhinged and can lmao

obvisiously feel free not to answer if it's too personal... but wait, you're part lithuanian?
Yeah, it’s where my last name comes from too (which is why I refuse to ever share it with people who I don’t know too well as it’s easy to figure out where I am. Like if you know I’m British and you know my last name you can go onto the lastname website thing and track down the specific county in Wales my family lives in)
It’s not like a huge connection like the Welsh and English is but it’s still there due to the name. Basically my grandad came over from Lithuania to Wales after the rest of his family had been killed and that’s how I’ve ended up with Lithuanian and Welsh in me

i have a hot take: given that steve probably grew up around many first generation immigrants, including eastern europeans, and that new york is a generally very diverse place + that we know steve's a smart boy and probably has a very good memory, there's no way steve wouldn't recognize a little bit of russian at least. like, EE languages have a lot of similarities and with the amount of polish ppl, lithuanians etc that came to NY in the early 20th century im sure he would've picked up Something
like i know everyone's on about how bucky's a polyglot and knows like, every single language on earth bc of hydra but like. honestly in my opinion it would absolutely make sense for steve to be bilingual at Least and i dont know why people don't get on that more often? like the serum enhanced All of him that must include his memory or cognitive abilities to some extent and i dont see how he wouldnt be 100% invested in learning as much as he can esp with the opportunities he got in the future
Steve overhears Nat and Bucky talking shit in Russian all the time. They don't know he knows a little bit of Russian, but he picks up on key phrases like "idiot boyfriend" and "pain in the ass" and "he's lucky he's pretty" and understandably gets... curious. He takes up Russian classes at the weekend and doesn't tell anyone.
"Just doing extra shifts at the soup kitchen, Buck! Don't worry!"
Steve's a fast learner and, with what he knew already, pretty soon he can understand, like, 80% of the conversations they're having. Pretends he's still none the wiser.
One day, he's making lunch while Bucky relaxes on the sofa, bitching on the phone to Natasha in Russian about how "yeah, my idiot boyfriend didn't take out the kitty litter tray last night so now the apartment smells like cat pee. I know, I know, I'm gonna leave it on his pillow next time he forgets it's his turn."
He waits patiently, listening into the conversation, waiting for the perfect moment to slide right in with the perfect clap-back in his perfected Russian accent (best in his class, says his teacher (she's really nice - she gives him a smiley-face sticker whenever he does well on a test)).
He's on his way over to Bucky with a couple of smoothies when Bucky tells Natasha; "О нет, он понятия не имеет. Я купил кольцо на прошлых выходных, пока он помогал с раздачей еды в столовой для бездомных. И прямо сейчас мне нужно определиться, когда просить его руки."
["Oh, no, he has no idea. I bought the ring last weekend when he was in the soup kitchen. I just need to decide when to propose right now."]
Steve drops the smoothies on the floor. The glass smashes, smoothie splatters everywhere, Bucky jump out of his skin like "Holy shit, Rogers, what the fuck!? Are you okay? What happened!?"
Without thinking, Steve just blurts out "Баки, ты собираешься сделать мне предложение?!" ["Bucky, are you going to ask me to marry you!?"]
Bucky gapes at him for a moment. Blinks. Says to the phone "Hey, Nat? Something happened. I'll call you back." and hangs up. Takes a deep breath.
"Steve... how long have you been able to understand Russian?"
"Uh... quite a long while now..."
"So... you understood everything me and Nat were talking about...?"
"Yes, Bucky."
"Did... did you overhear the thing about your jogging shorts?"
"That you shrunk them in the washing machine on purpose so that they'd hug my butt better? Yeah, I heard that."
"And the thing about the--?"
"--About the cake you bought at the store and told me you baked it yourself? Yeah."
Bucky turns as red as borscht. "Uh... I'm sorry, Stevie."
"You can apologize after the wedding, dumbass."
Bucky grins and Steve forgets about the mess on the floor, practically diving onto the sofa to give Bucky a big sloppy kiss.

Hello everyone! April’s still a little ways off yet, but I figured it’s time we got some hype going for AmeLiet Week 2021!
This event operates in much the same way as most event weeks do - prompts are posted each day for participants to create fan works for, and those works are then posted/reblogged here! This event focuses particularly around the America/Lithuania ship from Hetalia (a lovely little pair if I do say so myself!) and as such, all submissions should relate to this ship in some way (check the rules page for more details, or here if you’re on mobile). The event usually takes place in mid-April, near the halfway point between their “birthdays” (American Independence Day on 4 July and Lithuanian Restoration of Independence Day on 16 February).
Because this is supposed to be a fun and chill event, participants do not have to adhere strictly to the daily prompts, nor is there a cut-off date for submissions. We’ll keep track of the event tag, #amelietweek, all year round.
If you’re not a tumblr user, you posted your submission to another site, or you want to submit your work anonymously, you can still participate using the submit page  (click here for instructions on how to submit on the mobile app).
And if you want to get an idea of what this event is like, you can browse prompts and submissions from previous years.

i wish i knew what my last name means lol. like, etymologically. its a name thats so uncommon that if you google it, you find my mom and my uncle and grandfather and cousin and stuff. and not cause theyre notable people haha. and like two facebook profiles from people in lithuania who must be distantly related to me somehow.
it ends in the lithuanian patronymic surname ending, i think, so im sure its “son of-”, or possibly it’s a topographical one like “from-”, idk, it’s not something i know a lot about, tbh. the first part of it though is something i just cant find anywhere. it doesnt seem like a lithuanian given name, so if it is a patronymic then its either something obscure or its based on a non-lithuanian name. it could be a place name, but i havent found anything that sounds like it. that’s harder to look for though. hmmm. it’s just not the kind of thing that’s easy to find by googling, and without speaking lithuanian haha. it’s also weird cause i cant just ask my family haha, first of all none of them know either, and second of all like... three of my grandparents were 100% irish, children of irish immigrants, it’s just one who was lithuanian (and even then, only like half lithuanian i think). it just happens that due to western naming conventions, that’s the grandparent/great-grandparent who passed down my surname. i know what all the irish/celtic/english names floating around my family mean though lol. scully and mcelroy (yes, like that mcelroy, except they pronounced it mick-EL-roy, not MACK-elroy) and williams and such... man idk lol. then there’s [insert my last name. again, i dont wanna put it here because you can find my family if you google it haha]
man... and like, the thing is, as i suspected, i’m sure that if i look and eventually do find what it means... it’ll just be something really boring lol

Hi I have a question. I'm writing a fanfic with a character who is Lithuanian and they go to America. But they don't speak English so im wondering how to portray that? I know Lithuanian and English are very different
(cont.) same anon as before since i realized this is better phrasing. so i suppose what i'm wondering is how would you portray them learning esl as a second language? like especially when they're talking? i don't want to do it bad
Hi! I have never been in a situation where I'd be learning a language in a country where people speak that language while having to start from scratch and having no help whatsoever from someone who'd be able to speak both languages. However I have visited Norway and I'm in no way proficient in it, so in a situation where my poor Norwegian would meet another persons poor English (rather rare), we'd still have two languages somewhat in common to communicate in bits and pieces of sentences and body language and gesticulating with hands. Maybe that would be how?
I suppose it depends on your characters age, education and time period the story is set in, but I find it very hard to believe that this would be someone learning their second language from scratch unless they are younger than 7-8 years old (that's when we start learning English at school). If the story is set some time other than modern day, it would still be hard to find a person who wouldn't know at least one other language besides their mother tongue (if we're talking early 20th century, it would be Russian/German/Polish, if before that - Russian/Polish), which would make it easier to learn a different language and would also give the person a better chance to find someone who would speak some language they have in common and via that they could learn? Or, and this is kind of the most logical, they would take classes?
What I'm saying is, it's important to understand that due to the fact that Lithuania is a tiny country with around 3,6 million native speakers worldwide, every single person knows at least 2 languages (this is like, the bare minimum, most know 3). English is mandatory now (grades 2-12), so everyone has at least the basics.
Considering that this is a fanfic (and I'm assuming that you are not a native Lithuanian speaker), I would suggest writing the dialogues in English, just making them very simple, sentences short and to the point, sometimes using words that would technically be correct but have a much better synonym, adding pauses to indicate searching for the right word... Mixing up the word order wouldn't really work out as the languages have rather similar sentence structure. If you want the character to start from full on Lithuanian, you could try writing in normal English but cursive, and let people know that this is not said in English, for example:
"Sorry, are you looking for something?" the store clerk asked the customer. They looked clearly lost. "Oh, hello! I need.." They said, ignoring the clerks dumbfounded face, and looked around, for something to point at. "Well, like this, to cut." They made a snipping motion with their pointer and middle fingers. "Scissors?" The clerk asked, somewhat relieved that this game of charades was coming to an end. "Scissors! Yes!"
Just a suggestion, but you can surely find a way that works best for you!
