I kind of generally have a dislike of almost all comics villains that are trying to be Darkseid because they often have that vibe of your older cousin coming in when you and your sib are hanging out with his little sibs, seeing what y'all are doing, and deciding that he doesn't like that you're having fun so he introduces a villain to the play session that derails every plot point and forces all attention and control onto himself.

Darkseid is forgiven for this sort of shit because DC made the correct choice of pitting him against superheroes who can actually handle him, but a lot of these other dudes just completely take over the story even when it doesn't make sense. I remember the whole time the 90s xmen got taken over by Apokalypse I was over here, as a child, wondering why the fuck Professor X's magic space girlfriend hadn't shown up with a warship or something.

(Because honestly? It's boring watching these dudes roll over everyone, I genuinely want to see a fight between a dude like that and a whole ass warfleet please.)

Idk you have to be really careful about introducing greater context villains to a story even before you get to whatever their motivations are, what makes Darkseid great is the fact that he loses, actually, not that he wins.

#the wedding was lovely and i am so sad #managed to get most of the sad out of the way Friday and Sunday so i could be glad for them on the actual wedding day #but still. i'm going to miss her. #we always talked about living together and we never did and now we probably never will #i've got a model of married folk living together in community but i don't think they do and it has to be something you choose #her family are lovely and i was really glad to meet her friends and cousins that she talks about so often but they don't really get it #they get to have her!!! she's moving somewhere that's more convenient for literally everyone other than me! Because that flabbergasted me so much I legitimately laughed and I’m still thinking about it.

But my aunt couldn’t see that because to her we were just two twelve year olds calling each other names, /oh those two, so ‘close’ (in truth, we were just two girls who were the same age, our moms said we had to be close) but always bickering/ not the continued saga of pain and harassment that had been our shared childhood, twelve years worth, and the moment I was finally old enough to realize, “I should stop trying to be friends and instead never talk to her again.”

‘The beginning of the end’. As if those years when we were younger didn’t count and weren’t informative. They were. As if we didn’t have interiority and a complicated, broken relationship before that. We did. As if it was all petty before we were teenagers. It wasn’t.

It had ended a long time ago.
