There's just something very specific about homoerotic character-enveloping friendships from around 2010 where they're semi-aware that gay people exist but queerbaiting isn't quite a thing yet sp their relationship consumes the narrative and changes them both irrevocably forever and they end in tragedy but the ending is JUST open enough for the fic writers to wriggle into that just makes me go fucking FERAL

But you are, my love, the astronaut Flying in the face of science I will gladly stay an afterthought Just bring back some nice reminders Yes! You are, my love, the astronaut Crashing in the name of science Just my luck, they sent your upper half It's a very nice reminder

I'm so tired. And Frustrated.
I'm tired of characters needing to be "in love" every time they love each other. Especially when the media goes out of the way to make it clear that they love each other without ever trying to define that as "in love". They love each other. That is just as valuable. That is Just as worthy. They can be partners without romance. They can be partners without sex.
They Can Be Partners Without Romance.
I am so Sick of not only the idea that for some god forsaken reason, Every single queer relationship needs to be labeled and categorizable to "count" as explicitly queer, but the idea that it needs to be romantic. The notion that characters and stories cannot be queer until you get to see a kiss or people are declared "boyfriends" or something else like that. We are Woefully shy of queer representation on the whole— I'm not saying you can't interpret media however you like. Do what you want.
But I am so sick of characters that Clearly mirror aromantic stories or stories about queerness that just don't focus on romance be called "not good enough" or "homophobic". Not every story is about romance. Not every partnership is romantic.
That doesn't make them not queer. That doesn't make them not important. I can promise you, those of us who don't or can't center romance in our lives? We Are living a queer experience. We are antithetical to amatonormative allonormative expectations for how life "should" be lead.
We get to see ourselves in those stories you're calling "not queer enough". Queerness is complex and weird and Fucking Queer. It's not an analog of straightness or cisness. We're not playing opposite to straightness or cisness. We're not operating in the same Framework— that's what makes us so goddamn queer. We aren't easily definable, and when we try to force ourselves to find one definitive way to be queer, we leave community behind.
So yes. We need more queer stories. We need more queer stories of all kinds that are messy and weird and romantic and aromantic and trans and ace and nonbinary and all over the place because every single story about queerness is going to be different. And that's good.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people shit on straight couples in shipping and in general as a "joke" lately, particularly in the Dungeon Meshi fandom. Friendly reminder that, besides the evil straights, when you mock or put down straight couples for being straight/"not queer enough", you also make bi and pan people, and trans and ace people who experience hetero attraction feel unwelcome and lesser. Negativity hurts, love is love, happy valentine’s!

#Doodles#Adventure Time#Fionna and Cake#Simon Petrikov#Winter King#Winterkov#What? Me? Enjoying a self/ ship ft. two dorks wearing glasses? Haha couldn't be me that doesn't sound like me at all#Trading one Tom Kenny brainworms for another sheesh - Tom Kenny stop voicing queer scientists challenge (impossible)#I hadn't drawn Simon before but I have known he's a massive cute for a heck while now lol#And yeah confirmed - he's Really fun to draw especially this iteration#His crows feet and hair streak ugh <3#Plus I've just missed this style of eye more than I realized haha#And Winter just flows off my pencil like water like woah#I blame Spamton at least partially for that lol although he's easier to draw than Spamton :0#Spamton is very fun! Winter's just easier for some reason :0#Maybe 'cause he's so soft-faced haha ♥ And I don't use my colours on him lol#Honestly I only count this as self-slash on a technicality - yes they're both Simon bodily but that's not really Simon in Winter anymore huh#Maybe to some extent - he's still a scientist and all but honestly there's a comment I can't stop thinking about since I saw it#About how really that's The Crown using Simon as a host just without the madness - and his skills aid in keeping him lucid#So it's like a ghost puppeting your clone's still-living corpse more so than kissing yourself :) In my opinion lol#And I don't say that to get away from self-shipping! I love that stuff!! That's just genuinely how I read Winter now haha#Not that he wouldn't play into it lol#I've seen a ''I am like this so you are also like this :) Right Simon? :) You're like this'' and I enjoy that very much#Manipulative so and so <3

Kinda got a love/hate relationship with the history of K/S because it's like. Can I please have a queer discussion about this 1960s television show without it being reduced to "shipper discourse". I thought Spock and Kirk were homo long before I knew that their characters spawned a fanfiction counterculture. The bisexual dude who wrote the episode that really kick-started the movement didn't know it was going to coalesce into the fan phenomenon that it did, he was just writing what he knew how to write best: the repression of burning male desire, and two dudes doing homoerotic shit. Can I just talk about the repressed burning male desire please, and the implications of a gay angle to Kirk and Spock's story, without it being referred to as shipper discourse. Can I do that. Does this make sense

I think it’s important to remember that straight ships are just as valid as queer ships!! I know in some of my queer friends there’s a knee-jerk instinct to make sure that their main ships are reflections of themselves or other part of the queer community (which is valid!), but in the same breath will dismiss or cringe at a heterosexual ship— especially if the heterosexual ship is being implied as cannon in the text.
It’s an important part of the queer normalisation sequence that cis and het ships and characters are fine and normal!! And that there’s a difference between not shipping something based on preference vs political/social standings

the dr fandom cant handle wlw ships in any other context than background fluff with no depth
i like sakuraoi and tsumioda ect but they always get woobified and mellowed out like did they SEE 1-4??? aoi did not pull all that to get sidelined as a supportive background lesbian in your ishimondo fanfic
and don’t get me wrong. my girls need a break sometimes fluff is great i don’t have a problem with it. but it’s the constant sidelining of wlw ships in favour of het/mlm ships in pretty much any fandom that gets to me.
and how wlw ships are only acceptable in the community when they don’t have any dysfunction or toxicity, and if the ship does have even the slightest hint of the above qualities it is either mellowed out to the point of being unrecognisable or dumped on with thinly veiled misogyny and homophobia and when i say slightest hint i mean the literally slightest hint. like the girls will argue once and the fandom will label the ship toxic while shipping. fucking kuzupeko or something.
wlw ships are seen almost entirely as a way to get female characters out of the way of mlm ships. in het ships the female character is a tool to develop the male character. they show significantly less depth and probably dies to forward the male character’s development (sound familiar?)
in any situation female characters are characterised by their relations to male characters. a female character’s (usually romantic, or at least interpreted as such) relationship with a male character is their defining characteristic. if said female character is in a wlw relationship they are reduced to their most basic traits while male characters are explored and given depth, and exist in the story only to offer support to the male characters.
i haven’t even mentioned how female characters must be in a relationship to be even remotely relevant in a story, but that’s a rant for another time.
grrah the way that female characters mirrors how wlw ships are treated by the community, and that characters/ships that aren’t completely perfect and deemed acceptable by the community are dumped on by the larger dr community while worse ships or characters are welcomed because they happen to contain a male character is gonna be my 13th reason istg.
anyways this rant is getting long but in summary danganronpa fans hate women and they hate wlw relationships that they can’t jerk off to.

the fact that this was my first ship speaks volumes, like of course I seek out the most problematic, toxic, aggressive person in a show and pair them with a dramatic, whiny, obnoxious brat. The cycle repeats itself again and again

You know what I can’t stand? How the queer community literally cannot win when it comes to shipping characters. When we want our ships to be blatant, with obvious coming-out scenes or straightforward “i love you”s -- you know, conformation that these characters are actually into one another -- people tell us that love doesn’t really work that way and you have to read into the subtlety of the relationship. That the character shouldn’t be expected to just “come out and say it,” they should show it, drag it out through action that may or may not be actual gay representation (which I’m sure makes the homophobes feel good because they get to keep on pretending that the character is just like them)
They essentially tell us that we should be thankful for queercoding and not expect canon queer characters because of... subtlety? or whatever?
But then when we ship two characters who don’t interact a lot, who only show signs of queerness through subtle actions, people tell us that we’re reading into things that aren’t there and “oh my god, does everyone have to be gay?”
Like, which fucking is it??? Which are we allowed to want? The barely perceptible chemistry (which is usually because the shows want to keep it that way/don’t pay enough attention to the relationship) or the obvious, concrete queer confirmation?
Better yet, maybe just let queer people ship whoever the fuck they want and go have fun shipping all your straight character pairings, of which there are, oh I don’t know, one or two to choose from.

Looking at people’s thoughts about 2.3 and I… don’t feel strongly negative about the Wille-Felice kiss? It seemed like a pretty realistic teenage moment. They resolve things pretty maturely. They stay friends afterward and don’t harbor awkward romantic feelings for one another. It wasn’t an example of cheating, even.
In an AU without Simon (admittedly the lack of Simon would be sad) I might be rooting for Wilhelm/Felice? In an AU where Simon was more bisexual I’d happily be rooting for a Felice/Wilhelm/Simon triad???
My multishipper heart feels a lot of things at once.

Went absolutely feral on WOY again recently (Patreon)
#Doodles#Wander Over Yonder#Specifically about Peepers#Commander Peepers#Wander#Lord Hater#Fist Fighter#Emperor Awesome#Sylvia#The quality's gonna be scuffed for the next little bit 'cause it was too scribbly to work with lol#I had fun drawing! I just was not feeling particularly careful or clean#Also I decided to try out a new challenge and editing would've eaten up too much of my time - give and take!#Hhhh even after all this time Peepers is still my fave of the cast <3 The Most queer-coded villain (minion) how could I resist!#I'm simply too gay for evil that's just how it goes lol#Plus he is So fun to draw - like all of the WOY cast is they're all so bouncy and squishy! Very fun shapes!#But Peepers is the perfect mix of elements to me - effectively an objecthead with a rounded triangle torso and so expressive!#I love himst#Immediately going in on the shipping lol - yes I do genuinely ship him with everyone featured here#The Fist Fighter is new! But everyone else has precedent lol#He's my favourite so I love all of his dynamics! Or did he Become my favourite Because of his interesting dynamics? Who can say ♪#The most obvious ships like Wandering Eye and Death Glare are probably my favourites but hhghggg he's too interesting to leave alone!#I like him with Awesome because of a specific fic but I even besides that I think they could bounce off each other well!#And with Sylvia it's their begrudging comradery of being the Keepers of their fools <3 They have a lot in common especially their passions#As before I did not expect the Fist Fighter but I recently realized how cute they are and it turned into a rival/friendship/crush thing lol#They're arguably more competent than the Watchdogs - I think C.Peeps could grow to recognize and appreciate their prowess lol#For now it's all one-sided tho haha - still cute!#Anyway let Peepers say ''fuck'' even just once he deserves it
