Art masterpost: Sunflowers & Pussy Willows Story by: MBQ (@mbqnoyolo) Art by: sidewinder (@hawkland) I'm so happy to get to share the first of my five (yes, five) collaborations for my very own event, the SPN Angels & Demons Reverse Bang (@spnangelsanddemons-rb)! I admit to my own selfish reasons for organizing the event — I wanted the excuse to draw & paint more of my favorite angelic characters and relationships than I usually get the chance to. And I'm so proud of all of the work that's come out so far and is yet to come! Be sure to visit the blog to see the other masterposts so far!

Anyway, I've been on quite the pre-Raphaelite kick for a while and doing a number of SPN pieces inspired by classic paintings. And when I saw Anna Lee Merritt's "The Watchers of the Straight Gate," it immediately screamed out Cas & Jack to me. So with that in mind (and spending a fair amount of time posing myself in my trenchcoat and white jacket to get the right references for the clothing), I ended up submitting this work for claims:

I had a lot of fun doing the wings on this one, as well as playing with different little things to keep the original inspiration while also making it more these two.

It was lovely getting to work with MBQ again who was the perfect author to write something lyrical and magical, drawing on elements of nature and floral symbolism as hinted in the artwork. Once I saw the draft I was inspired to do this piece of Jack as I felt captured him in the story:

Both of these pieces were done on Arches hot press paper which allowed me to do a lot of detail (necessary for the main piece, as it was a lot to fit on a 14"x20" paper block and keep some of the distinct brushwork) and kept the colors light as I wanted. With the Jack piece, I was experimenting with some new honey-based paints Mr. Hawkland gifted me from a. gallo watercolors. Their greens and blues in particular are amazing, and it's so hard to find good greens for doing botanical work! I was fortunate enough to get to visit their main shop in Assisi while in Italy last month too and stocked up on all the colors I didn't have.

my 5 favourite k-pop music videos <3

I love music videos, and in k-pop there are a lot of mildy shitty ones, but there are also some amazing ones that are just as iconic as they are aesthetically pleasing. Obviously budget will come into play here, so big 4 groups will be more prevalent on this list, but I tried to be as fair as possible, within reason. Also, I'm a girl group stan, so don't expect many boy groups. Obviously I will forget some, but maybe I'll make a part two, and you are very welcome to leave your fave mvs in the rbs or comments. This list is in no particular order, lets gaur

1. 'Feel Special' - TWICE (JYP Ent.)

This music video inspired this list, and for good reason. 'Feel Special' is in my opinion, the epitome of Twice, as they stand today. It encapsulates their more mature concept post 'Yes Or Yes', but it doesn't alienate their debut cuter concept, it rather welcomes it with open arms and celebrates it as a part of Twice's history, something their newer releases occasionally struggle with. Visually its a feast, its decadent and lavish, and positively gorgeous. Each member has her own movie-esque set, employing various genres and aesthetics, and then the members unite in the most glittery set ever concieved, the gold contrasting their raspberry and champagne outfits magnificently, while also referencing the group's official colours, as seen on their lightstick. The whole video is cinematic and opulent, and every detail, down to Sana's dip died pink hair, and Nayeon's stunning ginger curls which I wish she would bring back, is flawless. The only gripe I have is Chaeyoung's unblended foundation in her solo scene, but hey, we aren't all be perfect. My favourite scenes in this video are the afor-mentioned glittery golden arches group scene, as well as Jihyo's rainbow vintage television scene, that was surprisingly ahead of its time in terms of its retro aesthetics. It's a must-watch music video for the history books, and it's Twice's best song too - it deserves no less.

2. 'Why Not?' - LOONA (BlockBerry Creative - ew)

Note: If you would like to watch this m/v, please stream it from a non official yt channel, in accordance with the boycott. They will usually be marked with 'Boycott Ver.' in the title or something similar.

Loona has a lot of amazing music videos in their arsenal, but 'Why Not?' goes above and beyond. It's one of the most visually striking music videos I have ever seen, and its grasp on colour, composition, and rhythm is completely unparalleled. It's vibrancy is just gorgeous, full of neon lights and shining metallics. The video exists in a constant state of dichotomy: both cool and warm, metropolitan and pastoral, manmade and fantastical. You would assume this would ruin the video's visual message, but the contrast actually enhances it, as well as furthering the group's lore. it's unafraid to experiment with aspect ratio and camera movement, and along with the subversive editing, the final product is unique as well as timeless. Who cares that the last five scenes were neon and retro-futuristic? It's time for Heejin and Hyunjin's black and white minimalist mildly 1920s suited up dance break with a 4:3 aspect ratio of course! As the song itself says, why not? It's as playful as the song, as well as being visually stunning. My favourite scenes include Choerry's upside down mirror moment with the neon lights, as well as Kim Lip in the field with the funky glowing orbs, and of course the cult circle on the moon scene. Fucking iconic.

3. 'Ditto' (Sides A & B) - NewJeans (Ador)

Note: I have a full review of this song, if you are interested.

Where the other videos on this list are overwhelmingly vibrant or cinematic, 'Ditto' is understated and personal. Arguably one of the most influential k-pop music videos of all time, it breaks every rule of what a music video of this genre looks and feels like, rejecting glamour and high fashion for an unromanticized schoolgirl aesthetic surrounded with melancholy. It's heartfelt and unassumingly tragic, and truly makes the viewer yearn for a time they only half remember. It is one of the most beautiful pieces of cinema I have ever seen, and I am so happy that K-pop stans loved it to death as I did, despite how starkly different it is to most everything in k-pop before it. It does however remind me of f(x)'s '4 Walls' m/v, which isn't a shock as Min Heejin (ew) was their creative director also. It also has vibes of the cult classic (?) Japanese movie 'All About Lily Chou Chou'. It has sparked many trends in the industry, including but not limited to: b-roll interspersions, the typical schoolgirl aesthetic, and the general rejection of the polished, glitzy vibe we expect of k-pop idols. Their impact on trends is notable, but in my opinion, no one has executed this aesthetic to the standard that NewJeans has. The unassuming tragic beauty of 'Ditto' is difficult to put into words, you must go and watch the two music videos for it - they are life changing.

4. 'Kill This Love' - BLACKPINK (YG Ent.)

Say what you will about Blackpink, but they KNOW how to do a music video, and 'Kill This Love' is one of their best; it is beyond extravagant. The sets are huge and striking and insane - Jennie floats on the heads of two enormous swans and all four girls dance in the middle of a huge fucking BEAR TRAP and its ridiculously cool. The fashion and styling is amazing too - my fave looks include Jennie's Lara Croft moment with the braid, Lisa's big ass fur coat from her cereal scene, and Jennie's gorgeous eye makeup from her shopping scene with Lisa. In a word, 'Kill This Love' is extra(vagant). Even the scenes that are conceptually ordinary - Lisa's cereal aisle, Rosé crying in her car - are elevated into the extraordinary. There is no real storyline or through line between the scenes other than their saturated colour palettes and the members themselves, but who cares? The members look like fucking goddesses, the dance looks amazing, and there are MULTIPLE jaw-drop moments throughout the runtime - what more do you want? Where 'Ditto' rejects the typical k-pop visual aesthetics, 'Kill This Love' epitomizes them. If I wanted to explain to western pop stan what k-pop is about, this is the video I would show them first. My favourite scenes include: the group scene with the exploding statues and the bad bitch combat outfits, Rosé caught in the storm with beautiful lighting, and THE BEST SCENE IN A BLACKPINK MUSIC VIDEO EVERRRR... Jisoo's goddess moment with the sun and the reflections. Nobody does music videos quite like Blackpink.

5. 'What Is Love?' - TWICE (JYP Ent.)

This music video is so unbelievably special to me. It doesn't break any boundaries with camera movement, editing, or aspect ratio like 'Why Not?', and it doesn't entirely reinvent the typical k-pop music video like 'Ditto' either, but I think it is one of the best music videos ever because it is so FUN. 'What Is Love' is a music video that is a series of references to iconic movies, most of which being about love, as the title suggests. It harkens back to 'La La Land', 'La Boum', 'Pulp Fiction', 'The Princess Diaries', and many more, with the girls playing the characters, on their fictional discovery of what love truly is. It's so special to me because it reminds me of doing exactly what the girls are doing with my best friends and my big sister - trying to learn what love is from the movies is something almost everyone has experienced, and thus the whole video feels nostalgic both for its references, and for its overall concept. It's fun and lighthearted and a memory of simpler times. Oh, to be a 12 year old obsessed with 'The Princess Diaries' again, to be a tween watching 'Pulp Fiction' with your big sister when it's probably not age appropriate, to be young teen watching 'La La Land' right when it came out. What a time to be alive. That's what 'What Is Love?' is, it's a celebration of life, of growing up, of being just a little naive and knowing it. Iconic, truly.

abt that last post i rb-ed is so true if u think abt it. like, yeah duh it makes sense abyssmare is the opposite of unichord since red's contrasting color is green so yeah. it's not subtle.

but remember that everyone in the units argue with each other and all of them have a want that can be fulfilled by helping their main vocalist become the greatest singer in the world/universe.

except unichord, unlike abyssmare, is trying to do something about their disconnection, theyre trying to get better as people to become closer and better as a unit. since abyssmare has never struggled (from what ive seen) with "winning" or "being the best", they never thought of becoming "better people" or whatever. what's the point if theyre already on top?

this also, in return, makes the both of them connect/foil to peaky. peaky is like a mix of both of them or unichord and abyssmare are the two different parts of peaky. peaky pkey is already one top, yet they keep on finding people better them which makes them want to get better. they argue, yes, but it never goes to the point of disbandment, they take time off each other to cool off or even talk it out. they're what unichord and abyssmare should be, i suppose.

also, abyssmare, even though theyre the top, they JUST formed. they're not close with each other to the point of peaky or the other units, yet unichord, a unit that formed after them, is doing much better than them. unichord has been through some rough stuff, but that's expected, look at rondo, tsubaki didn't just say 'yes, i want to join', and immediately got the groove. she felt the pressure of singing for alter ego and thought it was only her burden, but the others told her that 'no, it's not your burden, it's ours, together, as a unit', and they managed to work a way for tsubaki to be comfortable. (im sorry for using rondo as an example, theyre the first thought that came to my mind)

anyway, yeah, so what sophia is a little freak? she's supposed to be a foil to hayate!!!! (both of them were inspired by the other's musical prowess, which made them meet the other and form their bond)

Okay, so everyone gather around, we need to talk about something, well a lot of things. I sat on this a while and was just not sure if I wanted to post this or just deal with it in private. Multiple topics under the cut.

As we know, interaction is terrible on this site now and 90% of people are using it like instagram or twitter. scroll, like, scroll, like. For the love of god, this is tumblr, not instagram or twitter. Please, if you are new here, keep this hellshit enjoyable and listen to creators and other users when we offer suggestions.

Now the topic of reblogs. YES there are some creators who don't care about this and love to shout "no one owes you anything" and everyone is entitled to their options and feelings. That being said, there are many creators who DO CARE about this, me included.

There are many creators who are negatively affected by shitty and no interaction. We love what we do, so will we still do it without you? yes. But we chose to share here because we like sharing, we also like the interaction, we like the community. We do write for ourselves, and because we love it ( so please stop saying that as a generic response when a creator is venting, even if you mean well, it's still not helpful).

We are sharing works FOR FREE with the public and there is nothing wrong with wanting some interaction and reblogs, it's nice, it's a sign of appreciation, for some it boosts our morale as we offer up our babies for public viewing. I know for me, I have been very impacted by the way people use this site now, it sucks, it depresses me. Will it make me stop writing? Never. Will it make me consider keeping my work private at some point and just write in my own little corner of the world where my work is no longer free to view, yeah maybe. This place used to be so inspiring, and that is gone. Sure, some will disagree and that's okay. My blog, my option, my post.

So, when creators are like " hey it would be nice if you reblogged or interacted" it is not us begging, it is not us being babies, it's not us being ungrateful, it is not us disregarding shy or anon readers, its not us saying “wah you owe me!” - its us asking for something that is a great gesture of appreciation for the content you consume, FOR FREE. We are not asking for payout or to praise us, just show some signs of life people. That like button is in the same place at the reblog one, use it. Don't want to mess up your page aesthetic? Well you could make a reblog account. Those are great. I have two of them to support writers.

Am i saying you should reblog everything, no. So don't even bring that up. Reblog what you like. Help it get seen. Likes do NOTHING on tumblr aside from say "hey cool" or “liked this” and there is nothing wrong with that, just if you want to step up your game, reblog it, comment, interact. Have you ever seen a fic on your dash, one someone else shared and loved it? Well, do you know how you saw it? because someone reblogged it. A like did not do that. reblogs = exposure and fic circulation. The fic/gif set/art lives on in a bigger orbit!

Addition: reblog accounts are a thing! Many people do them. It’s an easy way you can keep your page however you want, but still reblog (means share, circulate) the original authors work. You do this by making a Sideblog and can dedicate that to reblogs only. I do that too! I have more than one RB account that is only dedicated to sharing other ppls work.

In the last month I have received lots of messages like "when is so and so being updated" "are you finishing ____" but on these same works, as I'm busting my ass, no one comments, no one reblogs and there's like 4 likes. Many of these messages don't even start with a greeting either.

Sooooo if readers are so ardent to see something, if you are actually reading it, if you want to support the author, how about showing some signs of life? Even if you just go anon and throw a bunch of emojis in their mailbox, that's good too! You can stay anon and be like " hey i really am enjoying that fic" - trust me, you will make the author smile.

One of the issues with this liking only thing is we can't tell if our work is actually being read or valued. And it sucks. Honestly, I don't look at my notifications for likes anymore, I don't. It's discouraging and it feels like no one is reading anything, just blankly liking it as if this was instagram or twitter. Could I be wrong? Sure. Of course. I mean I like stuff to find it later in the day so we have systems right? But this is just me venting on my own page so I'm holding the mic...

All of this is to say, don't demand updates from creators. If you like something, great. If you are excited, great. We love it! I love a well intentioned message from someone excited for an update. Tone matters, don't be a dick, don't be entitled, don't be rude. A creator is sharing their work with you FOR FREE, shit if they want to take 5 months to update, let them take 5 months. if they want to drop it for now and write in a totally new fandom for a bit, let them live.

So, do we love your excitement for updates? YES. But don't be a dick about it, don't demand it. And when said work is posted, how about you hit that reblog button or leave a comment or send some keyboard smashing excitement to their mailbox as a "yay its here, thank you creator"

Now, minors and sketchy looking blank accounts…

We are tired. I AM TIRED. I have never in my life had to do so much followers-list maintenance and I took a break because that shit is exhausting. Please, if you are a minor, do not follow adult blogs, stop ignoring our warnings. if you are a blank blog, take some time to not have a sketchy looking blog. More on this topic in this post.

Next…Complaining how there is no new content

YES there is! Some of you only read works by big blogs and only read their work on certain characters. So no, you can't complain there is nothing new for you to read. Many people do not give other writers a chance and only go to 1-3 blogs as the “be all end all” for a fandom or said characters. There is nothing wrong with favorites. That’s not what I’m taking about here. Branch out, there are so many writers, so many creatives, so many stories. The big and popular blogs are not the only ones who have stories to tell and share. Give other people a damn chance.

Okay, that's all I have to say. If anyone is sick of hearing about any of this, I don’t care. You can filter it out or unfollow. All this needs to be said, so I said it. Not just for me, but for all the creators who are frustrated. And trust me, many, if not most are. Some have left already for the above reasons, plus other reasons. This place could end up without content, slowly, eventually if creators continue to leave. So many have already.

Another topic is inner fandom drama but I’m not gonna touch that. Just be kind to each other, don’t be an asshole. Try to keep these spaces enjoyable. For many of us, this is out little escape.

me hiding an underwhelming amount of hcs under this cut im so sorry oomf im really bad with headcanons for some reason but let me try to think if i have any lmfao

- i think them (literally) sleeping together is a big hc for them in general but that’s probably my favorite akishinji hc of All Time … it can do no wrong… its perfect…

- (more likely fits post canon/shinji living route) shinji being clingy asf is also one of my faves idk i think there’s just something in seeing him happy and shameless for once in his shit life 😭 getting hugs and physical contact he used to not think he deserves … i eat it up …

- aki being a cat person i think is a hc … it mostly came to me from pq when hes being so dramatic about koromaru licking him … he loves koro yes but i believe he is a cat person at heart … shinji is generally an animal lover but he’s also just a dog person

- p4au debunks this with that god awful design but i’ve always believed it: aki’s wardrobe is immaculate. guy is always dressed in some nice ass clothes and perfect style. ignoring p4au i also think aki would dress nice even in timeskip

- this is also popular methinks but them taking in ken and koromaru time skip is another that i basically just treat like its canon lmfaoo this one also is just perfect… does no wrong… amazing …

oh god yes, everyone's always welcome to do anything with my ramblings, and you especially so - I love your art and your art style so so so much!!! It's genuinely incredible how fully you capture the essence of the characters??? Not just their looks, but the way their personalities just shine through so fully in everything you draw???? Truly incredible!! And I absolutely ADORE your headcanons!!!

And re: my fic - the only reason I locked my ao3 fic is because of the issues of AI training on anything open - I actually hate having my stuff locked down, and would like to unlock it some point in the future, tbh (and I know ao3 has instituted anti-ai crawling measures, but the idea of it still bothers me, which is why I haven't unlocked yet), which is my long-winded way of saying: absolutely, I always give blanket permission for anything non-AI re: my fic!

And beyond that, I'd be absolutely thrilled if you're inspired by anything I've written/rambled, haha <333 (and omg especially re: the bones in the middle tags lollllll)

I tend to think of fandom as a big sandbox we're all playing in, BUT I know not everyone feels that way which is why I wanted to double check with you!
