Learning multiple languages is so strange sometimes

I was doing a couple Welsh lessons earlier on Duolingo, and now I'm working on Hebrew with Mango. It said איך (aykh) is "how", and one of the sentences on Duo was "how are you", "sut dych chi"

so my brain promptly went "aykh dych chi!"

Any thoughts on Enji protecting the whole family in chapter 395? It made my heart combust but I'm honestly wondering how they even got into that position lol

That I wish Horikoshi had given us a bit more contest to fully apprecciate it.

I mean, this is what we had in chap 390 in terms of position of the characters.

Touya is laying on the ground, staring at the sky, Enji has crawled until he could rest his hand on his chest, Fuyumi and Natsuo are 4 meters away them, Natsuo holding Rei. Shouto is what, 3 meters away from Touya and Enji and 2 from the rest of his family and he's losing consciousness.

They're more or less in the same position in the following chapter.

Shouto is confirmed to have fainted, Fuyumi and Natsuo are still seated, Rei seems to be in Natsuo's arms (after all she was closer than her children to Touya and got there sooner so she might have gotten more burned), Touya and Enji are on the ground in the distance... while a horde of Twices is moving closer.

And then we jump at chap 395.

As the scene is small I increased its size.

Enji is awake and above everyone, Natsuo is the first person below him and below Natsuo there seems to be Shouto (the hair on that person's head seems to be of two colours). Also below Enji we can see two more people but we can't identify them.

As three people are missing to this count, it can be there's a third person we don't see... or not.

I mean, the Twices would be more than willing to attack Enji and Shouto, and might consider attacking Fuyumi, Natsuo and Rei, but wouldn't hurt Touya so there might be no reason to protect him and therefore no reason to move him and risk further harming him, considering his own physical condition.

So Touya might be there or not.

This doesn't change the problem that the characters, to get in such a position, should have made unnatural movements, considering Shouto's position.

So, unless Horikoshi plans to correct it in the manga this would mean those two Todoroki we see were tossed or tossed themselves on Shouto's other side for... unknown reasons.

Enji also would have had problems to toss himselves on his family like that, first of all because in the shape he is can only crawl.

So I don't know how to take that scene.

As I said they're encorcled by Twices, who likely wouldn't hurt Touya, would more likely aim at Enji and Shouto (no idea if they would find Fuyumi, Natsuo and Rei interesting enough but they might exchange them for minor heroes and think they attacked Touya too... or not... hard to say) so it's possible the whole family was foced to move to protect Shouto, who's unconscious and would be targeted, differently from Touya, or the Twices just made apile of them for unknown purposes (unlikely but who knows?), or whatever else.

Overall, I like to think Fuyumi, Natsuo and Rei are trying to protect Shouto and Enji is trying to protect all of them but... well, we were shown twice how Enji froze up when one of his children was in danger so I would have wanted TO SEE the scene where he finally doesn't do that but act despite his poor physical state.

So yesh, if this is a moment in which Enji is protecting his family... well, it's great, it's character growth but... it doesn't have the space it deserved. After having been teased for so long with how will he finally move instead than just watch, this moment comes in the form of a small image depicting him shielding his family from a potential enemy that's fading away.

So, unless it's recovered in a flashback of some sort later on, I feel it was more a rushed scene to continue Enji's arc than anything else and this makes me pretty sad as I was waiting this moment by a long time.

But hey, at least we had, it's a nice moment in which the family tried to save unconscious Shouto, with Natsuo also shielding his baby brother and with Enji finally doing something to protect them all, they're showing unity as a family group, so, even if it's drawn in such a rushed way, let's cheer for the fact it at least, exists.

VTM V5′s Cult of Shalim, the concept of Holy Darkness, and its ingenious (and respectful!) connections to Judaism

So for the past year or so I have fallen head-first into the World of Darkness and have been studying up on the amazing lore present. I recently got my hands on the Vampire: The Masquerade v5 supplement, “Cult of The Blood Gods.” The book as a whole is an amazing guide to vampiric religions, cults, and ideologies, but one of the most intriguing sections for me was the section on abyss-obsessed Cult of Shalim. (This is going to be long, probably formatted horribly, and a bit rambling, but I promise I have a point).  For those of you who aren’t aware, I’m Jewish. Well, Jew-ish; I was raised in a rather secular home, and while I observe the big holidays, I have always considered myself more culturally Jewish. I’ve been reading up more on my faith though, in an attempt to connect more to my heritage and traditions. Now, I’d noticed when looking at Jewish prayers and such that light plays a big part in Judaism (I’m not scholar here, so if anyone wishes to correct me please do so). We praise the light of God, praise God for fashioning light, ask to enjoy its splendor, etc. We also, of course, have Hanukkah, the festival of lights. So when I read “Cult of The Blood Gods” and saw The Cult of Shalim being tied to Judaism via the character of Rabbi Basaras and the Hebrew in the name, I was confused. 

Then I accidentally stumbled into articles on the Ayin-Yesh, the Ein Sof, and Tzimtzum, important concepts in Kabbalah, or Jewish mysticism, and the connection hit me like a truck. I reiterate, I am no expert on Judaism as I am still learning, and VERY MUCH NOT AN EXPERT on the complicated subject of Kabbalah, but this is some fascinating stuff and I’m going to try and explain my mental connections.

The Ayin-Yesh, Ein Sof, and Tzimtzum

To give a very basic (and probably underdeveloped) summary on the Ayin-Yesh and Ein Sof, the Ayin is considered to be the nothingness from which our universe or “something” (Yesh) emerged. Inhabiting, or being present alongside, the Ayin is the Ein Sof: the immaterial manifestation of God before God manifested themselves as part of creation. Ein Sof is also associated with the concept of infinity and endlessness. The Ein-Sof and Ayin are often tied together due to the proximity of the primordial nothingness and the immaterial form of God. Additionally, God is said to have created the world by Tzimtzum, or contracting, to create a vacant, hollow, conceptual space from which to craft the world. 

In other words...

HOLY DARKNESS/NOTHINGNESS IS VERY MUCH A CONCEPT IN JEWISH MYSTICISM! The Cult of Shalim, spearheaded by the faith-shrouded Lasombra, who worship and wish to rejoin the abyss, oblivion and nothingness, would naturally find this concept and use it for their own purposes in order to justify their twisted agenda.

While you could discredit this as being a coincidence, I very much doubt it! I think Renegade Games did their research, and managed to take steps to tie the very Catholic-coded Lasombra to another faith in a very cool way. I also applaud them for providing more Jewish representation and opening the door for more Jewish characters, both good and evil. 

Think about it! You could have a Jewish Hunter: The Reckoning character who saw their temple become corrupted by the Shalimites and decided to fight against it. You could have a corruptor figure like Rabbi Basaras. You could have a vampire character who is desperately in search of something to believe in after the embrace, only to slowly fall into this perversion hidden under the mask of an Abrahamic faith.  To all those who’ve read this, thank you very much. For the rest, here’s a TLDR: The Cult of Shalim from “VTM V5′S Cult of The Blood God” ’s ideologies draw from Jewish mysticism in a way that perfectly compliment the Lasombra’s penchant for taking advantage of mortal faith, while also opening the door for more Jewish characters.  If anyone with a more knowledge on Judaism and Kabbalah would like to contribute or correct me, please don’t hesitate!

What made you ship it? Because Andy Robinson's split-second decision made so much sense. And because the characters are so dense and they just seem to have whatever it is that the other is lacking. And also because they're weird in the best possible way :^)

What are your favorite things about the ship? The fact that Julian, although hurt in his past, is able to give Garak all the comfort that Garak needs. And because being around Garak makes Julian so happy that he looks and smiles like a silly puppy

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I'm not sure tbh. The fandom seems divided on when the two should end up together romantically - I personally think after Doctor Bashir, I presume? is the correct timeline but I'm open to other suggestions. Also I think that they absolutely were friends with benefits before that because even though he exiled himself, Garak needed some closeness with someone. I don't write about that tho because on that particular topic I tend to stick to children's menu :^)

Ḍāki namo!

The supporting instructions that distill the crucial points
Of the profound Whispered Transmission of Secret Conduct,
The secret essence of the precious lineage, are as follows:
Phenomena of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are tricks of the mind.
Mind itself has no birth or cessation, no centre or periphery.
It is Samantabhadrī, the great mother of basic space
Pervading all of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa.
Vajravārāhī, the Black Wrathful Goddess,
Is the supreme enlightened body of the wisdom mudrā.
Enlightened speech is the wheel of secret mantra,
And enlightened mind is uncompounded luminosity.

Recognising this for oneself is the view.
Undistracted, free from grasping—this is the key to meditation.
And the self-liberation of whatever arises,
Unconstrained by hope or fear, is the king of action.
The fruition is realization of the actual ground.

Just so, by applying these crucial points,
The profound means of direct realization,
Through the instructions of the precious Whispered Transmission of Secret Conduct,
There is no doubt that you will attain liberation.

Pema Yeshe Dorje sent this letter of advice, just as it arose spontaneously in uncontrived awareness, to his own student Riké Chatral Rinpoche. May virtue, excellence and auspiciousness abound.

Action, the culmination of practice, involves spontaneously liberating all experiences without fixation or aversion, embodying the principle of non-dual awareness.

The fruition of spiritual practice culminates in the realization of the actual ground of being, which transcends all conceptual frameworks and limitations. This realization unveils the inherent purity and luminosity of existence, allowing practitioners to abide in the state of primordial awareness free from dualistic distinctions. It is the ultimate attainment of enlightenment, wherein the practitioner recognizes their intrinsic nature as inseparable from the universal truth.
