@tony-dreams and I have been planning this trip for months. We've been talking g about it almost since the day we met so obviously, going to Barcelona and chase down all the good spots we see in the show would be our first big trip together!

And obviously, on our first day out, we went on the less touristy spot ever to take a ton of picture in a place nobody was taking pictures - but everyone looked at us weirdly for doing so.

Victor woke early the morning of the first skate for the Grand Prix Final to go on a walk by the ocean, leaving Yuuri to sleep peacefully in the hotel room.

He heard sound of seagulls and the waves crashing on the shore. He felt the sea breeze and the early morning sun on his face as he stared out at the beach from the boardwalk. Wordlessly he raised his hand to look at the golden ring he acquired the night before.

Suddenly he was kicked aggressively in the back.

*Kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick* “Victor Nikiforov is dead!”

He turned around to look Yuri in the eyes.

“Why do you look so happy to be looking after that damn pig?”

He took a step forward to confront the angsty teenager. “Did you want to compete against me?”

“Don’t be so full of yourself. Not all skaters look up to you. Just go away already, geezer.”

Victor grabbed the teen’s chin to take a closer look at Yuri’s face. A gust of wind blew through, rustling their hair around as they looked at each other.

Victor’s hand trembling, Yuri muttered, “The ring you got from that pig is garbage. I’ll win just to prove how incompetent his owner is.”

Victor cooly smiled as the younger skater pushed him away, “Let me go!”

Yuri slapped away his hand and took a few steps back.

A dog barks in the background on the beach towards the sun. The pair looks at the man and dog walking along the beach. Almost resembling the future Victor could have with Yuuri and Makkachin.

Victor narrates ~ If I’d stayed in Russia as a competitor, Yurio wouldn’t be this motivated to fight. And neither would I…

Seagulls cry as they fly in the air and Yuri walks away. He turns once again to talk to Victor, “This place reminds me of Hasetsu’s ocean.”

Victor smiles, “I thought that, too.”

He stares back at the waves and the rising sun in the distance. Yuuri, you may not realize this, but many others besides me got their “L words” from you.

Just got a note from a very long yoi Victor character analysis meta I wrote in 2017 that I absolutely do not remember writing. Episode ten of Yuri!!! On Ice did something to my brain I think that is unlike almost every other television experience I have had. The way the end credit scene of episode ten changes the entire context of the rest of the narrative. PLUS it’s following the motherfucking chapel front wedding scene????? What the fuck. It’s the whole thing though, cause it’s also the one episode that Victor narrates out of 12, and his narration is Like That. Best episode of television ever?? Yes.

Yuri!!! On Ice is a comedic masterpiece you cannot change my mind.

Excuse me, as I will use this opportunity to vent.

It wasn't really hard to predict that the situation with IceAdo wasn't good at all since 2019 even by just looking at what was going on... Like the sudden lack of any effort to promote the show/movie after the trailer flopped (because of "you either give us what we want or you deserve to die in a plane crash" mentality that *a part* of YoI fandom had and still has...).

Later the same year, the rumor that IceAdo project was once reset to 0 dropped, then they announced the postponement, and the whole IP was just completely ignored from that point onward. (For people who speak Jp, I recommend searching for Yamada Reiji's video from Sep 2019 that he posted on his paid NicoNico channel just a couple of weeks after the postponement was announced... I'm 100% sure he recorded it right after going out to drink with Sayo - while he only says vague things, imo, it gives you a good idea that Sayo was most likely once told at that point that IceAdo, as she has wanted it to be like, just isn't going to happen.)

That, and on Japanese side of Twitter, you can find eg. share holders of various companies that do business in anime industry if you look hard enough, so based on info from such people, it was known that it isn't being worked on at all.

It's still a shock, though... It really is, to see that in writing.

There is also the thing that Jp news sites and so on chose to report it with "the news was met with 'well, it was inevitable' reaction from fans" blah blah comment, and while, sure, maybe in 2024 it was inevitable, but the history of IceAdo started in 2016, when Sayo had the idea when working on episode 10. It wasn't 'inevitable' at all that such an incredibly talented creator as her can't even finish making a movie in peace... I don't even know, but it just feels to me so deeply disrespectful... 😭😭😭 I'm genuinely devastated.

Anime Recs Pt 2

Any BL fan knows that sports anime is all about the homoerotic tension between the MC, his team players and his rivals 🤌🏼 trust this genre to serve in both aesthetics and feels - which means it deserves its own list! I tried to include a little bit of everything from hidden gems like Ryman’s Club to big hits like Haikyu. Most of these have 🌈 vibes if you squint (sometimes not that hard) with YoI being more intentional about it. And for those who love found family like me, you can’t go wrong with 1, 2 or 6. I hope everyone can get something for their tastes and find catharsis as they cheer for these pretty boys. This is the second part of my anime rec series, you can find the first list here. Enjoy!

1. Backflip!! 🤸🏻‍♂️

Summary: Shotaro Futaba loved sports, but was never good enough. But watching a group of gymnasts in the park and seeing them in a gymnastics tournament, he decides to join their school and become part of the gymnastic team. With new members, Shotaro and Ryoya Misato, the team aims for the upcoming Inter-High tournament.

2. Big Windup! ⚾️

Summary: The story follows the story of Ren Mihashi, a pitcher who was blamed by his middle school team for their string of losses, and as a result suffers from low self-esteem and transfers to a different high school. There, the school's first baseball team is being formed and Mihashi reluctantly joins as their Ace Pitcher.

3. Free! 🏊‍♂️

Summary: Free is set in the town of Iwatobi, Japan, which is based on Iwami, Tottori. The story is centered on high school student Haruka Nanase, a gifted swimmer. After encountering his childhood rival, Rin Matsuoka from Samezuka Academy, he and his friends revitalize Iwatobi High School's swim team.

4. Haikyu!! 🏐

Summary: Junior high school student, Shoyo Hinata, becomes obsessed with volleyball after catching a glimpse of Karasuno High School playing in the Nationals on TV. Of short stature himself, Hinata is inspired by a player the commentators nickname 'The Little Giant', Karasuno's short but talented wing spiker.

5. Kuroko no Basket 🏀

Summary: The story follows Kuroko's journey to success with his team, with most of the episodes being based around one or part of one challenging game, in which Kuroko and his teammates, most notably Taiga Kagami, perform plays and have short conversations with opposing players in the heat of the match.

6. Run with the Wind 🏃‍♂️

Summary: After abandoning competitive running back in high school, Kakeru Kurahara has no desire to return to the sport during his college years. But when an impromptu shoplifting-related sprint brings his talent to the attention of Haiji Kiyose, he soon finds himself wrapped up in an adventure he never imagined.

7. Salaryman’s Club 🏸

Summary: The story follows Mikoto Shiratori, a recently unemployed badminton prodigy who has the ability of foresight. After getting fired from Mitsuhoshi Banking for losing a match for their company sports badminton team, he gets recruited by Sunlight Beverage to play for their team and become a sales rep.

8. SK8 the Infinity 🛹

Summary: In Okinawa, a group of hardcore skaters participate in a secret, no-holds-barred competition after midnight known as "S", racing each other on skateboards down a winding road carved out of an abandoned mine. Reki, a high school sophomore and hardcore skater, takes new transfer student Langa to S one night, and ends up pulling him into the world of skateboarding.

9. Tsurune 🏹

Summary: Minato joins the Kazemai High School Archery Club and along with his old friends and new teammates, Nanao Kisaragi and Kaito Onogi, they aim for winning the prefectural tournament while trying to overcome their doubts and shortcomings.

10. Yuri!!! On ICE ⛸️

Summary: Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki faces a crushing defeat during the Grand Prix finals and heads home, unsure of whether or not he wishes to continue his skating career. After a video of Yuri mimicking Russian figure skater Victor Nikiforov's routine goes viral, Victor decided to become Yuri's coach, much to the dismay of his coach, his fans, and his fellow Russian skater Yuri Plisetsky.

As dedicated fans of the series, which became at the time the third best selling anime of the twenty-first century, we have been waiting for news on the continuation of the franchise for years. As reboot upon reboot, second season upon second season, and new IP upon new IP is announced by Avex and Mappa, Yuri!!! on Ice, a cultural phenomenon at the time it aired, is left behind.

We want answers. We want to know why this series, which was explosively popular; which touched millions; skating fans, lgbtq+ fans, and so many others, has been ignored for so long. We want to know what's going on, both for the fans, and the team and creators behind the series who put so much love and care into it, and who talked many times about how much they wanted to continue it.

As of April 2022, it has been five years since the film was announced. We have only gotten a brief teaser which was released online almost two years after it aired in Japan. As of late 2018, merchandise and promotion for the series almost completely halted. Other IPs that catered toward similar audiences, continue to be promoted for years after their conclusion. Yuri on Ice gets radio silence. It's hard to overestimate the popularity of YOI when it came out, the cultural moment it created internationally, but according to Mappa and Avex, it is acceptable to just leave those dedicated fans in the dark.

We want to see the continued creations of Sayo Yamamoto and Mitsurou Kubo in this universe, but if for some reason, that's not possible, we also want to know that.

TV Ratings, what they mean, and what about Chicago PD? Part 2.

Hi Everyone! Back here with more TV ratings info for you all. This is a continuation of part one.

How are ratings determined?

As I mentioned in part 1, viewership is tracked via statistical sampling. Have you ever heard of people being “Nielsen families”. That’s still a thing. A small relative sample of people agree to record all of their viewing habits daily and then that is extrapolated over the total TV population to determine ratings and over the total estimated people watching TV to determine share. Want to know more about these families click here!

How to read ratings:

Sigh, it’s complicated to say the least but I will try to simplify as much as I can. At the end of the day, ratings are currency and there are many many ways to read them. You can read them both in context and out of context.

Out of context:

This is basically just looking at one show’s numbers week on week or year on year, at how many “viewers” they have had. The challenge here is that this is, by definition, out of context. A show could be gaining viewers but so could overall tv, or the time slot, and if they are gaining that does not necessarily mean they are winning. The opposite is also true.

In Context:

There are many ways to read ratings in context. This could be by night, by time slot, or by demo, by network, etc. This essentially shows how an episode does relative to these other factors, so…in context. In addition, when ratings are looked at at the beginning of the year for the coming advertising year, you also need to take into account total linear and total video viewing trends. If the pie is shrinking (and for linear tv it is), you can’t simply compare YOY absolute viewership.

What type of TV is Chicago PD

CPD is a network primetime show.

The media lingo for TV is super complex but in its simplest terms you can think of TV as linear (on a television set over the airwaves when it airs) or Streaming (subscription services like Netflix are an example, but there is also free streaming that is ad-supported).

Regular linear TV can be broadcast or cable, and can be prime time or non prime.

By all accounts in the linear TV world broadcast prime is generally the most expensive for advertisers (outside of prime sports like the superbowl) because of high viewership.

Chicago PD Example:

The chart here below shows CPD’s absolute viewership extrapolations and ratings in the key demo for this season (note that the first comparison on viewers is vs. last season’s premiere):

Of course the above is out of context because we don’t see how these compare to other shows on that night. For lots of context there are some awesome graphs here from ep 10x09.

By all accounts, Chicago PD is a Wednesday night powerhouse, handsomely winning the time slot but also showing strong performance in the demo for the night (not easy to do as a 10pm show).

But total viewers are down!

Yes but you can’t compare YOY viewers and make it accurate without doing some math.

Despite what Netflix might want advertisers to think, linear TV is still the dominant form of TV viewing, that said, it has been declining YOY as people shift to streaming. So that means the whole pie has gotten smaller so of course even if you have the same share your total viewers will decline.

Did viewers tank after Jesse’s exit?

Well out of context, it looks like there was a big decline in absolute viewership but you can’t look at stuff out of context. That night was also a world series game. People were tired, survivor was also on. As much as we love him, the absolute decline had nothing to do with him and in context absolute viewers when there are not major sport events have remained stable this season.

What about vs. all shows out there?

See below for the 2021-2022 season chart. Now this was total season ending so does not account for season 10 (which will be the 2022-2023 season).

Yellowstone crushed it and continues to absolutely smash ratings. This is Us had a strong final season. And look who’s after that….

Does this mean there is no way this show or any show will be cancelled? No.

To be clear network broadcast shows are still challenged by the overall landscape factors of overall viewership decline.

What does this specifically mean for shows like CPD? How do advertisers choose which shows to invest in? How does the money flow? Does one (or two or ten) actor’s salary have an impact on any of it? What are network’s obligations to advertisers and what if they fall short? Stay tuned for part 3!

Icon commissions available!

Hello, and good evening! I’m in a bit of a tough spot financially at the moment,

I specialize in making simple 100x100 RP icons. I do not make PSDs or borders, I enjoy making large quantities of RP icons, on some good days of upwards 50+ for a single episode or chapter. I like making enough expressions for threads. Basically, my goal when I make my RP icons is so less on things like borders or their edits as opposed to giving RPers enough expressions so that they can respond to most situations in their RPs.

For example: for my icons of Miku Okazaki from Gal Gohan, I have made over 1220 icons. For Ann Takamaki from Persona 5 I have made 966 icons from the anime (I still need to do the Dark Sun specials) and 137 icons from the manga. For Maggie Lacivi from Ava’s Demon (on request) I made 396 icons. For Cardia Beckford from Code:realize (only iconed episodes 1-6), I made 347 icons. For Milly Ashford from Code Geass I made 377 icons. For Doona Cheon of Sadistic Beauty I have made 945 icons. Basically, when I make icons, I make a lot, and that’s what I’m offering for you if you consider my services!

10 cents per icon, so $10 for 100 for example (I might consider adjusting this number if I make a ton of icons to be slightly lower, but this is unlikely) These icons will be published publicly; if you want this to be private (available only to you) I will up-charge you 5 cents per icon (so $15 for 100)

I am willing to icon virtually any source, including that of most “problematic” media or N/$/F/W things like an h-manga or films showing graphic scenes (I’m not stranger to iconing things most dislike just for a FC, so I understand what you want) and even full out dead dove content. I however have a personal right to icon something that does not make me feel comfortable. If you’re going to be ask me to do something extremely sketchy please understand for my own personal comfort and for the sake of reputation I might reject it entirely. We will discuss this on a case-by-case basis, I will likely accept most commissions but I have my personal right to reject business I feel will make me uncomfortable.

I will give you periodic updates on what’s going on, the quality of your icons, etc.

I care greatly for the quality of my icons and your icons as well. When in the process of iconing JJ from YOI I was dissatisfied with the quality of my torrent and halfway through redid the process with a new torrent to ensure my customer had the best quality icons I could make. Even for my personal iconing projects I care about using the best quality possible so that the icons look good. If you want an anime (my specialty) or tv show quality I will look for the absolute best quality, 1080p or better to ensure you have the best quality icons you can have once I’m done cropping and resizing to 100x100.

In addition to the 100x100 icons I keep the original sized expressions as well. So once I take a screenshot and crop and resize, you will still have the original sized icons as well. This is not an upcharge or anything; I always do this. Good for expressions for personal use, I believe.

If your source is an exceptionally long-runner (like HxH, One Piece, or Yu Yu Hakusho) I will not icon the whole thing most likely; somehow I doubt most people are willing to pay for an icon commission that might be hundreds of dollars if you asked me to icon Gon or something. Most likely I will icon a specific arc of your choosing.

I do not icon fanart. If the character is very obscure and there is little official media, then I likely can’t make much. I am only willing to icon official media (such as anime and tv shows), official art, and perhaps doujins that were already being sold for money.

I can now make icons efficiently from youtube videos, so video games and the like provided there’s an LP of decent quality can now be iconed!

I do not do extensive editing, but with manga icons, I try to do very minor cleaning such as removing kanji from the background and and removing speech from speech bubbles. Basically, whatever I can do with Paint’s erase button, but that’s it.

If your source is a youtube series or the like, something I cannot easily torrent and convenient download in order to take screenshots and icons, there is a chance I might upcharge.

Below are examples of icons made from me from various sources, 100x100 and some full size icons! For the sake of length those (the full-sized ones) will go under the cut. Ah, Arisagi. A classic. Well, my friend, ask and thou shall receive :D

cuddler - arisu. i think that before the borderlands/meeting with arisu, usagi was pretty much touch-starved and arisu, being the total sweetheart that he is, tries to cuddle with her (ofc when she feels like doing so) when they have their time or during sleep (some nights arisu is the big spoon, other nights is usagi) or whenever they get the chance if arisu is clingy enough.

the one who makes the bed - both.

the early bird - usagi. mostly for the morning routine.

the one with weird music taste - idk honestly, i think arisu's playlist consists of 97% game osts and usagi's revolves around gym music/phonk

the protective one - both. the proof is in the pudding (manga panels and that scene from episode 5 itself are pretty convincing)

the shower singer - arisu. just imagine standing outside the bathroom, waiting for your turn to shower after doing your morning jogs and from the bathroom you hear arisu singing his heart out on an ost from an anime he recently started watching with you

the one who cries during movies - arisu. do i need to explain?

the one who spends more time shopping - idk. maybe when arisu is indecisive of what pc accesorry would be better to buy.

more rough kisses - both, i guess.

the dominant one - (ñśfw/ñšft warning) mostly usagi. girlie can and will get him down on his knees when ëâting her out. most likely to call him a "good boy" too. and arisu is no less. he's got some pretty damn long fingers (i mean, have you seen kento's hands?) so... he could make sure she'll cûm at least once.

overall rating - a 10/10. a ship whose trope i could talk for hours.

-- Looking back on the 10 episodes we have seen so far, tell us, please, about a scene that you can't forget?

T: So many, that it's a difficult question. In Yuri!!! on ICE, each scene is like a puzzle piece that is connected to other pieces, so if I tried to give you one example of such scene, then it would be like "if we talk about this scene, then there is this other scene I need to mention, too" and I would never end. But a scene that surprised me, was the scene where Yuuri bought pair rings for Victor.

-- Victor also called that "an unconventional behavior".

T: But figure skating is a sport, in which you have to fight alone, so I can understand a bit that you'd like to have a physical protective charm, to have something to rely on before an important competition. Right now, Victor is someone that Yuuri can rely on, that's why Yuuri wants Victor to believe in him. So he wanted something that could be a proof of that, and as he just happened to look around him, he noticed a jewellery store... So, if there was a shinto shrine there, he would buy a matching protective charms from that shrine. One more thing, it's about something that you're going to see in the future, but the way JJ is skating in episode 11 is just not fair! To know in what way it's "not fair", you have to watch it for yourself.

[Notes: The talk about shrines... 💀 Even setting aside, whether somebody wanted to see Y&V get together or not, the way VAs make it so shallow sometimes in their haste to prove that it wasn't anything romantic, imo, is nothing but insulting to the creators.

There is that scene in ep 10, where Yuuri is scrolling on instagram, and he stops on JJ and Isabella's pic. He stops only for like 20 milisecs longer on that particular photo, but just this little detail makes you think "....oh?" - and isn't it just a genius direction by Sayochin? Then Yuuri wants "to go sightseeing", which of course with Victor ends up to be "shopping". And we see him looking around and looking around, barely listening to Victor - he is looking for a jewellery store, and it's obvious in the way he reacts, when he eventually finds one. But no - according to the VA, Yuuri just happened to look around, all of sudden, randomly, and there was a jewellery store near-by, so he decided why not? The GPF starts the next day, it would be nice to have something for luck. They don't have shinto shrines in Spain, so a golden ring put on the finger, on which half of the world population wears a wedding band, must do 😔 (coincidentally, they left a country with shinto shrines just a few days before - if Yuuri always wanted to have a protective shinto charm, he had 8 months to get one in his local shrine...? 🤔)

It's really sad that it was mainly fujo-hating YoI antis that were openly making fun of this, like "if you have to make up silly excuses like that, then why do you put such scenes in the story in the first place?💀". But well... Sayo's ever given maybe 3-4 YoI interviews in total (in Jp)... I can certainly imagine, why this number is so small.]
