My name is Christian Appay, and I am going to show you how to start blogging.
I know that starting a blog can seem overwhelming and intimidating. This free guide is all about blogging for beginners, and will teach you how to be a blogger with just the most basic computer skills. So whether you’re 8 or 88, you can create your own blog in less than 20 minutes.
I am not ashamed to admit that when I was first learning how to build a blog I made a ton of mistakes. You can benefit from more than a decade of my experience so that you don’t repeat these same mistakes when you make your own blog. I created this free guide so that anyone can learn how to blog quickly and easily. And if you get stuck at any point, please send me a message and I will do my best to help you!
Step 1 – Choose your preferred blogging platform
Choosing where you want to build blog is pretty much the first thing you have to do. I’m going to take a leap and assume you’ve heard of WordPress, and this is the platform I advocate. It’s massive.
It’s by far one of the biggest blogging platforms in the world, with countless plugins and add-ons and almost infinite ways to design and layout your blog.
Step 2 – Self-hosting or a free alternative?
Whoa, slow down there! This is the biggest decision you’ll have to make before we go any further. You need to decide whether to pay for your blog or grab a free one.
Step 3 – Start a blog on your own domain (if you chose self-hosting and a custom domain)
I’m going to push ahead based on the premise you’ve chosen WordPress, and if you haven’t, you should. Seriously, it’s the best.
If you’re still a little confused by what a self-hosted blog is, allow me to explain and how you can go about setting one up for yourself.
You’ll need to come up with a domain name you like and also choose a hosting company that can host your blog.
Step 4 – Designing your WordPress blog
Now, the fun bit.
Let’s make your blog look exactly how you want it to. To choose a new theme, you can either head to Appearance > Themes and install a free WordPress theme or you can head to a premium theme website like ThemeForest.net and buy a theme for around $40.
I usually choose something that looks professional and pretty easy to customize. WordPress also has this awesome feature that allows you to change themes with just a few clicks. So if you start getting tired of your current blog template, you can just switch to another one without losing any precious content or images.
Step 5 – Useful Resources For Beginner Bloggers
Bloggers come to blogging arena with varying degrees of online and social media experience, but we’ve all made more than a few newbie mistakes – there’s always room for more learning and improvement, whether you’re a beginner or you’ve been blogging for years.

On a recent, easy, 30-minute jog I had a thought. First, a thought alone is pretty amazing because typically my mind is a blank void whenever I exercise. This is my way of meditating and taking a “brain break”. When exercising, the best I can do to think is focused on the task at hand and maintaining basic bodily functions such as breath, movement, hydration, and managing any physical pain. If it’s a bike ride, I may have a cue sheet for directions. In that way, I don’t need to think, I need only follow.
Second, the thought I did have, which has stuck with me, was:
“What if even the tiniest of distractions are preventing us, from dealing with, our true hurdles in life?”
In the past 2+ months, I’ve been doing a lot of self-work. Perhaps it’s related to the Covid-19 pandemic but for now, I’ll just say, I finally reached my limit watching the morning news programs and the evening news “updates” so I just stopped. Yup, I stopped watching the news, cold-turkey! Can you believe it? And I haven’t suffered in the least. In fact, life has only gotten better!
Instead of 2-3 hours of distraction a day, even just as “background noise”, I’ve replaced the news with reading. Wow, what a concept! I must be some kind of genius… not.
To be honest, I don’t read a lot of books. I wish I did, but that hasn’t been my “mode of relaxation” especially since I read all day, every day, in the form of journal articles, blogs, social media, emails, research papers, etc. However, the reading I’m doing now, which is currently non-fiction and human behavior related, is serving as a catalyst to explore different aspects of myself.
I won’t bore you with all the details but I have “slowed down” since the pandemic and I already had a pretty uncomplicated life. I am truly grateful. But wait, there’s more!
In addition to most aspects of my life slowing down, I also wasn’t exercising. Those who know me might find this shocking given my 20 years of triathlon training. But since hurting my leg in a February 2020 marathon (because I made the error of “running through the pain”), I’ve only just begun to run again. I also couldn’t swim because pools were closed and I wasn’t biking because the weather still hadn’t turned for my liking.
Have I had an issue not exercising like I’m used to? No way! It’s been awesome! Now, I didn’t even have to feel guilty about not exercising, and frankly, I have been LOVING this break!
Since kicking the news habit, no longer exercising, and reaching my limit at a 6-9 hour workday, I’m digging more into personal growth in other ways. So, what does that look like?
In the past few months, I feel like I’ve made great strides in self-awareness and self-improvement. I’ve been tapping into feelings or trying to, and it’s been eye-opening. It’s also been damn uncomfortable. It’s hard. It hurts. I’ll admit, I’ve been doing my share of crying and I’m sure there’s more to come. Cue “It’s Alright To Cry” from the Free To Be You And Me soundtrack:
Light is shining on aspects of myself that I’ve been aware of for a while but never quite in this way. I don’t like what I see. I’m actually pretty ashamed of it because I’m seeing how I’ve treated myself and others, subconsciously, and it’s not what I want. This is not who I want to be. I want to change. I need to change. I am changing and I can feel it’s starting to happen. It feels good.
Whatever changing and transforming I’m experiencing (i.e. to be more openly loving and compassionate, rather than hide it, in case you were wondering) is not the purpose of this article.
The purpose is I’ve noticed that even the tiniest bit of energy expenditure elsewhere in my life causes my efforts toward emotional growth to all but stop.
  Not only does the work stop but I also stop looking, much less am aware of the need in the first place. Meanwhile, the negative effects continue in my life.
Even though I am motivated and committed to continuing to change, for the better, in a matter of days those efforts stopped and I simply didn’t have the energy to continue to work on my self-improvement. I didn’t even have the energy to think about it in any substantive way. I almost even forgot about the areas of ME I want to address!
In short, my life has slowed down so much (you might say boring, in a good way), with far fewer “distractions” (some may call them activities, hobbies, responsibilities, busyness, passions, etc.) that I’ve been able to see and more importantly FEEL a lot of emotions that have been buried, suppressed, and repressed for most of my life. And I’m not talking about some catastrophic life event(s) I’ve suppressed such as child abuse or growing up with an alcoholic father (neither of which applies to me, thankfully). I’m referring to everyday life, however, it happens to be perceived, from infancy until the present day.
It’s incredible to me that something as little as a 30-minute jog could require enough energy so as to prevent me from doing this emotional work. Granted, a 30-minute jog may not seem like much but that’s just where my fitness level is currently. In years past, it was more like a 2-hour run or a 6-hour bike ride… or both, back-to-back. It seems I’ve needed progressively more “activity” to exhaust my energy to the point where experiencing my own deep emotions wasn’t even a blip on my radar. That’s a heck of a lot of time and effort “distracting” myself while doing something “good for me”.
Regardless of the activity, what I’m noticing is that in order for me to be in a state where I’m able to really tap into and feel the deep feelings I haven’t felt for decades, I’ve needed this time to slow way… way… WAY down. Even then, it’s still hard to allow myself to feel and give myself permission to experience those feelings for as long as needed. And, I know there’s more work to do!
But what does this mean? What does it mean when something as socially acceptable, even revered, as fitness and physical health is preventing me from doing the emotional work that I know I need to do? I’m doing good, right? I’m exercising regularly and eating well. I’m doing what I “should” be doing to be healthy, right? And exercise is just one way I’m distracting myself.
How much exercise is really needed to “be” healthy? I’ve thought for years that a daily, 1-hour brisk walk was plenty good. Heck, if I recall correctly from 20+ years ago, that’s what Dr. Andrew Weil recommends. If you’ve read The Blue Zones by Dan Buettner then you know most centenarians simply lead an “active” daily lifestyle and don’t even exercise formally, in any way.
I wonder if less time was spent on physical exercise and more time honoring and experiencing our emotions, we’d be even healthier overall.
The latest research shows most chronic illnesses have less to do with genetics or poor attention to one’s physical health as it does with not attending to one’s emotional needs. Maybe this is why your grandmother was able to eat bacon and eggs, cooked in lard, smoke cigarettes, sip a little whiskey here and there, never exercise but rather sit for hours on her porch and still live to her late-90s. Perhaps the time she spent not doing was beneficial and she was in a more balanced emotional state with an incredibly healthy perspective on life and what REALLY matters.
I wonder what other distractions I have created, consciously or subconsciously, to prevent or “protect” myself from feeling anything uncomfortable or painful that still does need to be experienced in order to grow? How “slow” must I go in order to have the energy to do the real emotional work I want and NEED to do?
How tiny of a distraction is all that is needed to not feel what needs to be felt? If those feelings were experienced and released, how many of my own self-destructive behaviors would no longer be relevant?

Hi Readers 🙂
How would you describe Success? How would you measure Success? How do you know when You have achieved Success?
To me, success comes in many shapes & sizes, and truly depends on the person and the persons lifestyle and choices. I mean, I could say I am successful, because I have helped so many people achieve their goals, or I am successful because my company has been active for over 10 years…. But I do not see it this way. Yes, these are achievements. But to me I am successful because I am happy! I am confident! I am content!
You see, I think you can measure success against a thing or an action…. But to be successful, that is to really be happy overall!
Why does it matter? You are probably saying, and that is a darn good question.
When I work with someone, my goal isn’t to make them smaller, thinner, slimmer etc, although from an outsiders point of view, this is what actually happens…. MY goal is to help them find a level of happiness and confidence that they may not have experienced for a really long time, if ever.
In my opinion, when we say we “want to lose weight” it isn’t because we look at the number on the scales and cringe, even if we do. But it is about how you feel when you get dressed in the morning. How you feel when you are invited out for an evening and you know you need to “dress up”! How you feel when you meet a nice looking guy/girl. It is about how we feel each and every time we look in the mirror. It is how we have made ourselves feel, from years of negative thought patterns and self berating gibberish. 
Add into that equation all of the negative press about obesity, diabetes, heart disease, the overall health implications of being over-weight.
I will go back to a story from one of my most successful clients to date, a lovely lady who refused to step on the scales, she did not want to know how much she weighed. She literally hated herself already, so why amplify that opinion. She would refuse to eat in front of people, even her own family, as she felt ashamed of her size. She felt cut off from everything and everyone, as she battled against secret eating binges and crying herself to sleep every night. She felt embarrassed by what she had allowed herself to become.
I find it so sad that people should feel this way about themselves, we only get one life, and we should enjoy it!!! No one deserves to feel so alone or down.
She was a UK dress size 22 in her mid 30’s! A single mum, who was scared of what impression she was sending to her children.
Every thought she had was negative, every opinion of herself was negative, every aspect of her relationship with food was negative. And it all had various impacts on every other area of her life & lifestyle.
Until one day, she snapped!
This lady, joined me for some online nutrition & fitness coaching, she started walking every day just for 10 minutes, which became 20 minutes, then 30. Over time, she started to see improvements in how she felt, then how she looked…. She started to feel alive and I noticed that her smile was at last, genuine! As I was working remotely with this client, I didn’t see her on a weekly basis, but that just made the changes all the more evident when I did see her. And the next time we met up, she had been to the hairdressers, cut & coloured her hair and was wearing make up! More to the point, she was wearing clothes that were more than just black, grey & big…
She looked phenomenal!
After 18 months, our work together had come to an end, and she had experienced one hell of journey that took her from a UK dress size 22, to a UK dress size 8!!! 
More to the point, because we had taken things slowly, done things in the right manner…. at the right times & in the right order….. There was NO loose skin, saggy empty flaps of skin. She was toned, lean and looking awesome!!!
So what was it that changed her mind? What was it that transformed her attitude? What made her change? And what kept her on the right path?
I can tell you, without any shadow of a doubt, that this amazing lady wasn’t motivated by clothes sizes, she wasn’t motivated by a figure on the scales or pounds lost! She wasn’t even motivated by an event or holiday on the horizon.
No! She wasn’t motivated at all!!! 
She was INSPIRED!!! 
She had found her real reasons for changing in the one thing she loved the most in the entire world!
HER CHILDREN!
We used her inspiration to the best advantages that we could, at every low point, I would remind her WHY! At every hurdle… WHY! Every Challenge… WHY!
And soon, there was no need for reminders.
This client achieved her goals nearly TEN years ago. And not only did she achieve them, she has maintained them! She is still healthy, active and HAPPY! Do you want to see what it looked like???

This is what I would deem as Success!
There is no reason in the world that you cannot achieve everything that you want to achieve, be the person that you want to be and find your Success, Happiness, Strength and Confidence, just as my client did.
You just need to find your Real Reasons! You True Self! Your Inspiration!

Hello weirdos!
I hope you eating more Easter eggs than me, even one would be more than I had this weekend. Speaking of Easter, bunnies are the cutest animals ever, however many brands still test on bunnies. I am quite ashamed to admit that not everything I own is cruelty free but I do try to keep my purchases bunny friendly unless there is no cruelty free similar product. Lipsticks are my favourite beauty product, there is something about putting on lipstick even without any other make up that just brightens up your face. I am still obsessed with liquid lipsticks particularly those that dry matte but I will say while there are many formulas out there, this is only one thus far that I place on a high pedestal for the simple reason that it does not dry down my lips or flake.
The Huda Beauty liquid mattes by far outshine every other liquid lipstick that I have tried. Not only is Huda Beauty a make up artist, beauty blogging extraordinaire, influencer and Youtube sensation but she also has her own make up line. At 33, this talented woman has the world at her feet. Packaging: 
Each liquid lipstick comes in beautifully packaged in a cardboard sliding out carton with transparent plastic outer covering. The biting lips is on the box with the lipstick in between allows you to see the colour from the carton. The lip gloss like tube is square shaped and has a matte look. It is the most stunning liquid lipstick I have owned. It has a doe-foot applicator like most liquid lipsticks. I particularly like the wand applicator which is long enough to give you control of the application. Most people would discard the box for better storage but its way too pretty for me to throw away.
Price:
20$ in countries that it retails. R550- R650 in South Africa from importers.
Color: 
The two shades I own are Famous which is a dark vampy red and Heartbreaker, a pinky bright red. Famous is my ‘famous’ lip colour, it is my all time favourite but both shades would suit all skin tones. It does dry down a shade or two darker post application. The range is quite extensive with nudes, pinks, reds and browns, there is a shade for everyone. She also recently released 3 new nudes.
Formula:
Firstly the smell of this lipstick is like vanilla cake batter, I love the smell so much. The formula itself is very thin and lightweight but not runny like Colourpop Ultra Matte for instance. It takes about a minute to dry down which makes it perfect for ombre lip looks.  The best part about these lipsticks is it does not cling to dry patches, it looks even whether I have dry lips or not. It does transfer a bit however when you apply a second layer your lips will not look or feel cakey. It is comfortable on the lips and there is no stickiness to it.
Pigmentation:
It is very pigmented and one stroke on the lips could cover well. Two strokes will give you a full even coverage. It glides on effortlessly and does not look streaky or patchy. Neither does it sink into the fine lines on the lips. If you use a thin layer there is less chance of transference but you still get that “wow” pigmentation.

Staying power:
I applied this lipstick before 1pm and it was still on after 8pm and I was drinking in between. I find this last pretty well on my lips, estimated about 6-8 hours. If you are eating you may need to reapply but when it does fade it does so evenly, it does not crumble or flake off. No liquid lipstick would last you through an entire make out session and I am not sure why people expect it too. It doesn’t last less than 4-5 hours. Ofcourse, using a lipscrub and lip balm would help it last longer, you can read what I use here.
Overall experience and thoughts:
I truly love these liquid lipsticks because they are so pigmented and work effortlessly. I don’t usually need to reapply but if I do then they are easy to build upon. It is the most hydrating and wearable formula I have used. The only other formula I have used that compares is the Limecrime but that was slightly drying and more tacky. I understand it is pricey and not that easy to get ahold of. So is it worth it? I give this a 9.5/10, I think it it could last slightly longer. I would recommend it if you can afford it. If not the closest dupe a friend Nerissa Naidoo suggested is The Balm matte liquid sticks you can purchase from Stuttafords. I personally recommend Rimmel provocalips or Colourpop Ultra mattes it you are looking for a drugstore or budget friendly alternative.
