Hey I'm that anon from the first ask of this : pick one of your favourite mutals and go into detail why you like them/became mutals with them (has to be different from the last mutual you picked)

One of my favorite mutuals is @cupid-shortcake!!! She is SO SO SO AMAZING!!!

I first met them when we both joined the Better Casino AU, and they immediately struck me as a super interesting and funny person! They seemed to click instantly with @cups-and-pentacles, who is also super awesome, and watching them banter with each other and get really excited over things and build EPIC character lore together in the discord chat was energizing! The way they showed such enthusiasm for the things they cared about made me want to do the same thing! They always made me smile. (They still do all of these things. I’m not sure why I used past tense.)

But THEN I also got to build character lore with Cupid!!! We’ve collaborated a lot actually, and it’s always a blast, because she always has such great ideas, and she’s so encouraging of my own ideas, and the excitement builds as stories go bouncing back and forth with increasing speed as details accumulate and solidify and connect! We collaborated on our TADC OCs, for instance, making them siblings and revising their designs and starting to build their lore, and it was so much more fun than just working on my own OC alone. And of course, in the Better Casino AU we’ve figured out that [PLOT SPOILERS REDACTED] because [PLOT SPOILERS REDACTED] which makes a clever parallel to [PLOT SPOILERS REDACTED]. Ooooh, I’m so PROUD of all that lore you’re not allowed to know yet!!! And it was so much more fun to collaborate on it!!!

And also I will always be ETERNALLY GRATEFUL to Cupid for being the first of my friends that I have managed to convince to read The League of Seven! One of my absolute favorite obscure book series!!! It’s not just a favor to me, they seem to be very invested in the plot by now. Muhahahaha I have trapped her. It’s so amazing that I finally have someone to fangirl over these books with! It makes me happier than I can coherently express!!!

OH, and I almost forgot to talk about Cupid’s actual, y’know, ARTWORK! I LOVE Cupid’s art so freaking much!!! The way she draws all her characters just feels friendly somehow. It’s cute without overdoing it, a gently approachable sort of whimsy. It’s spunky without feeling sharp, and is soft while retaining a reliable solidity. The colors are somehow both bright and pastel simultaneously. It is charming and sweet and I love it so much!!! :) It’s the sort of art style where you instinctively smile when you see it, especially when the character is waving right at you and smiling back.

From their amazing art to their sugary pink aesthetic to the enthusiastic and genuine way they interact with their friends and others, Cupid is just a really wonderful person to know and to create stories with! I feel so so lucky that I’ve gotten to become her friend and make art with her!!!

HMM. I have gotten very curious about the iwtv show from many people I follow, and I definitely want to watch it one day, but the gears haven't turned just right in my brain yet! I'm also curious about a lot of videogames but they often... do cost money... Also I'm particularly curious about bg3 but I get motion sickness with certain videogames and I kind of feel like that would be one of them. I can't be sure but I'm pre-mourning it. Oh well I'm bad at that kind of videogame anyway so WHATEVER... [kicks a rock]

25. a piece of advice for taking care of yourself in fandom spaces

Death Note is the first fandom I've been truly immersed in and it's made me learn to block people more liberally. I used to be kind of afraid of doing it because it felt rude and I am a fragile little flower I guess but now I block people whose, like, ultimately inconsequential opinion pisses me off in a certain way. I also used to feel bad about filtering tags for things I don't like, even skjskfj Now I've got like 6+ variations of the same tag filtered for a super specific fandom thing and I live a happier life for it. The basic tips that everyone but me seemed to already have interiorized, basically!!! But sometimes I see people get really mad in a way that would suggest they may need to either block someone or filter out a couple tags.

Oh, speaking of getting mad. For ME personally it is self-care to get mad privately with my friends instead of out in the open. I'm not gonna lie I do love when someone is brave enough to make an angry little post about a thing I secretly agree with or whatever BUT I still think it's better to keep your petty anger (which is FINE, we're all petty) to yourself and your circle of friends. It is taking care of yourself and others and your public online space and your mindset and the attitude with which you approach fandom. To Me.

Also assuming good faith is also good to ensure your mindset is not negative 24/7... Like imagine that stupid ass take wasn't written by an actively malicious person but instead by, say, someone you could be friends with in another life who simply worded something weirdly or a bit aggressively or just didn't have the same information about a certain canon detail that you have or whatever. Sometimes people are actively malicious... But sometimes they aren't!!

And I'll answer 16 again with another little thing!!

If im honest really (as a fan of enstars since EN first release and have caught up with a few JP events except for like the super recent ones), I found most of the event stories and main story stuff uninteresting or just overall a headache to go through. Most of the time (through both official and fan translated) they would get me shaking my head asking "what the heck is going on??",or the story drags around that it feels both frustrating and just too boring for my brain to be able focus even, and just as I thought its gotta get better they will usually have some lame conclusion monologue going on that either my monkey brain is unintellectual to understand what's going or maybe its the writers are like that idk Im happy to see the pretty cgs though.

I would very much rather have someone summarize the stories to me even if it sacrifice for inaccuracies and biases. Ok here's an example, Antique Legends? The only thing I remember from the story is the fun interactions within Hokuto and his dad, which may be due to my bias with Hokuto but really that was the only truly entertaining part to me.

Speaking of characters I really don't care about character depth at all all I wanna see is them being cute in those little idol stories cause idol stories (yes I mean those short stories that are mostly like one - two chapter long) and scout stories are really what I look forward to the most personally cause they aren't over the top complicated or draggy like event stories and main stories, its not to say they are boring no in fact they are way more entertaining cause they make things that may seem so simple and mundane to something fun and also I love seeing them in wacky events too.

Also yes I did mention being a HokutoP though I would say I'm more of an overall drama clubP with other characters I like such as Aira and Naruchan (love calling her that personally) (and also I love every character in their many uniqueness and to be fair its just the bias demons that posses me). Now what do these guys have to do with this post? well to bring point that I know absolutely nothing about their 'complex sides' other than that they are sweet angels to me and I love seeing them in cute and funny situations, and guess what I still appreciate seeing them and hell I own a Wataru nui (planning to get a hokke one too soon) because even though yaydadad the whole war thing and his 'masks' I personally find him super fun even if I'm aware that he may just be putting on an act (plus I also have a mini white party dress for him that I make him wear whenever I went to anything fancy like my when I went to see my cousin perform on a orchestra concert).

To bring my final point I personally think that enstars best strength or interest for me is the idol / scout stories because even with their cookie cutter like surface layer personalities they manage to even be more memorable and overall fun to read. Oh and stories aside I adore most of the cards although they get bland sometimes and most of the songs are pretty good in my opinion love trickster songs muah. Anyhow thats just how I feel like enjoying the game and to be fair I prefer to enjoy it alone rather than to have a mutual around cause ye I'm that those type people who enjoy being alone and find a lot of people to be a waste of a space personally, well I have a lot in my mind currently as per usual but they most aren't enstars related so for now imma really stop myself here right now though I may come back here for more confessions idk depends on me I guess (I will also be surprised if you read through this entire thing and if you do thank you and may God bless you my good friend).

genuine question what did you do in order to get so much attn and stuff on fics? like writing skills aside cause obvs you're really talented but is it like the way you tag stuff or did you join networks or smth?? cause no matter how hard i try my stuff doesn't really get notes🥲

Hi!!! I'm going to be honest and say that getting attention to your writing is a combination of a lot of different factors, but a majority of it boils down to luck. Success, too, looks differently for each person, so what does it look like to you? What does engagement mean? 50 likes? 100 likes? A heartfelt anon ask?

But don't feel bad if you don't think you're getting any notes! It's not a reflection on your writing skills at all. When I was just starting out, it took me a while to gain attention. However, I can give you a breakdown of how I, at least, think gaining traction works! I have been writing for a long time now. Under the cut for length.

1). Time. This may not be the most immediately helpful advice to you, but I've had this blog for four years. I've had time to establish myself as a writer and gain followers. That means people "know" or "recognize" me, and though I wouldn't say I'm popular (that is hard to gauge, after all), that does mean I have had time to establish myself. If you're a newer writer, then you've had less time to build that sort of credibility or rapport than an older blog has. Also, sometimes it takes a while for a piece to kick off! A lot of my posts have accumulated notes over the years, not just all at once.

2). Networks/mutuals. I'm not in any networks (though I have considered joining some), and I'm a bit of a private person, but it does help to talk to other writers. I can't verify for networks and how helpful they are, but I can verify making friends with other writers and interacting with them. If nothing else, having the support and being able to support people with similar interests as you is really sweet! It means you don't feel like you're writing alone in a void, and I personally treasure my writing friends dearly. Bouncing ideas off of other people is super fun!

3). Tagging. I don't think I tag my fics in a particular way, but it is nice to have consistent tags, so readers know what to look for, and can easily filter out the writing they do or don't want to see. So, I have a general writing tag ("liya writes"), but I also tag things like "character x reader" and "character name." I would recommend that you only tag things that are relevant to your fic, if only for courtesy. Trying to boost your fic by adding unrelated tags might see like a good idea, but it will be inconvenient for other people who, for example, didn't want to see a Childe fic in the Diluc tag, and turn people off from your writing.

4). Formatting. This may seem like a small thing, but I think the appearance of your writing is important. Do you have a consistent theme or organization? Do you have summary, word count, warnings, and the name of the characters who appear in the fic? Most importantly, if it's a long fic, do you have it under a read more? How is the writing itself separated? Bullet points? Paragraphs? Is it easy to read, or is it one long block with no differentiation? A pop of color never hurts, either! I personally keep my posts simple, with blue and pink dividers for a bit of color, and all the necessary information at the very top of the fic. Consistency and ease of reading are important to consider! Is this something that attracts a reader's eye?

5). Promoting. How do you promote your fics? This falls under a similar vein as "tagging" and "networks/mutuals," too. Sometimes it's good to reblog your own fic at different points of time, so followers who are new or don't dig around in your masterlist can see it! And sometimes, having other people (especially writers) reblog your work can give it the exposure it needs! I would warn against asking writers to reblog your work, though, especially if you don't know them, just out of courtesy. I might ask my friend to reblog a piece if I don't feel confident it'll do well, but I would never ask a complete stranger who I don't know.

6). Posting time. When do you post your fics? Weekend? Weekday? Afternoon, or night? I think there is a particular time when people are on tumblr the most, so it might be helpful to look those statistics up to maximize the coverage your writing receives. Time zones are something to keep in mind, too. Additionally, are you posting when the fandom is at peak popularity, or are you posting after hype has died off? The engagement you receive also depends on how much people are into the current fandom you're in.

7). Content. What sort of fandoms do you write for? Are they older fandoms, newer ones, smaller ones, or bigger ones? Who do you write for? Popular characters? Less-known ones? You might find less engagement with a smaller fandom, or a less popular character. Additionally, what do you write? Longer fics? Headcanons? Drabbles? I think, in general, that longer pieces might take off a bit more slowly, but tend to linger more, but short pieces will explode immediately, but might not be something people come back to as much. This is only because of the length of time it takes to read, and different readers are attracted to different formats.

8). Luck. And no matter how well you follow all the rest of my advice, there's still a chance your writing might not take off. Again, that's nothing on you, but more so to do with the fact that engagement is ultimately unpredictable. There's no set way to predict what sort of writing your potential audience will resonate with you. I'm sure plenty of writers can tell you about fics that they laboriously poured over, only to receive no comments on it at all. On the other hand, sometimes posts blow up when you didn't expect them to!

I'm not going to tell you that notes don't matter; after all, it's not wrong to want engagement or acknowledgement over your craft. We post things online for a reason. But it is important to ask yourself what you ultimately want out of sharing your writing: do you want a community? To connect with others? For clout? To hone a skill? Or just for fun? Maybe there's a variety of reasons you post. I can't say tell you how to feel, and there is no "wrong" reason to want to write. But notes also aren't everything, and I hope you have enjoy what you're doing at the end of the day!

Opinions on ULTRAKILL ships?! ( If you are comfortable with it at least-!! )

in general, i'm all for them lol personally, i'm obviously hugely biased to v1/gabriel because i just think there's so much to chew on with them, to the point where i've got no clue where to even start on why i enjoy them. and this. turned into me trying to do just that!!!! sorry!!!!

v1/gabriel – my main ship and honestly it’s so difficult to condense down all the reasons why i love them. like aesthetically and thematically everything hits just right – they are the mechanical and the divine pitted against one another by programming and orders now obsolete. they are so alien to one another, they were created on different planes and never should have known the other existed, yet they fit painfully together, they understand what it means to be a tool only made for the singular purpose of violence. their identities are obscure things, v1 denoting a prototype without a proper model name and gabriel reflecting only his use to god, growing into their sense of self in part from meeting the other. and they are irrevocably star-crossed, their very love corrupting one another to their deaths – gabriel has lost his light and is burning out for his choice, while to me, v1 gaining a sense of love and sentimentality is so antithetical to its purpose that its code is becoming increasingly unstable. they are dying like the world all around them, yet they somehow found love, found someone that can understand them through their violence. but everything beyond those fundamentals, beyond the deep ways they are tethered, is brand new to one another in a world that seemed to have nothing new to offer.

i so enjoy how their story is told too – we watch it happen through the eyes (eye???) of an auxiliary antagonist, how the world of the protagonist is destroyed and his identity rebuilt through who he believed to be the villain. gabriel as a queer character who’s been so hurt by dogmatic faith twisted by authority and how he followed it for so long because he had no choice, how he loves someone they believe shouldn’t even exist. it’s tragic but there is an ecstatic joy in it, in gabriel finding himself and being freed of his own choice to follow his own beliefs as well as love who he wants to. a machine and an angel, made only to follow orders finding a brief happiness in each other and the agency borne of their love. it just. really resonates, you know?

there’s MORE too, but i’ll lightning round them – we’ve discussed it before, but tiny mechanical beast with giant dignified angel is SO cute ok!!! i also see them as having a massive mutual respect for each other as combatants, that they are equally matched in skill and their sparring regularly ends in equal wins and losses on either side. and just the personality dynamics. i think of gabriel as very kind, refined in the way he speaks and interacts with a lot of sweetness and gentleness cultivated from knowing just how strong he is (ALWAYS thinking about him described as “radiant”). v1, meanwhile, is a little barely contained storm, it’s impulsive, chaotic, and far too curious without any pleasantries – it doesn’t mind itself whatsoever and is often carelessly rude, thinking so many thoughts a second that it’s always unpredictable. HOWEVER they’re both ridiculously arrogant and deeply proud in their own ways, so as a couple they’re just insufferable. awful. they can’t understand why the other acts like that and they’re madly in love with their mind because of it.

SORRY I TALKED ABOUT ONE PAIRING…but quick opinions on some others!!! gabriel/minos i do think had a relationship and it’s incredibly messy, for so many reasons even outside the obvious. minos/sisyphus 100% and they’re very tragic, wish these old men could have gotten a break. gabriel/ferryman is one-sided to me, but i think the ship is super cute if not also just. sad. but who isn’t here (i also think gabriel may have shown them some affection knowing their feelings, he just didn’t know what to do because he feels bad about it hhhh). v1 & v2 i can only see as evil siblings, so there’s no ship there for me personally, just them spiritually chasing each other through the house with improvised weapons. I think that covers it hhhhhh
