You’re completely out of reality today.
Rintaro’s flight is delayed until who knows what time, the twins brewing in your uterus are obliterating your back and bladder, and the love of your life Kaiya is intent on making your life a project today. With Akito staying at a friends house for a project, it truly is just you at the mercy of 1.8 kids.
You’ve danced the pregnant dance for nine years by now, but this is the first time in a long time you’re just about ready to break down into tears. You don’t know if it’s because you’re exhausted, your hormones are off the chart, or if you’re just so done with being pregnant for the past 8 months that the baby bump you usually adore is just becoming too much to keep.
You feel so sore, so gross from the sweat and other bodily fluid changes that come with twins. Nothing that any pamphlet, and doctor, even the Miya twin’s poor mother taking the time to call you and talk to you about it wasn’t anything to hold a candle to the exhaustion you’re feeling.
Eventually, it must boil over. And you do so without even knowing it, brushing Kaiya’s hair after a bath.
“Why you cryin’, mumma?”
“Huh?” Your hand stills softly, just clutching the hairbrush in your hand.
She turns around to face you, her small hand slowly reaching up to touch your wet cheek, and when you feel the warmth of her hand against your cool tear tracks, you’re quick to sniffle and move to wipe them away. “I’m sorry baby, mommy’s just feeling yucky today.”
Okay. Not what you meant to confess to your little three year old, but immediately, her eyes widen and she moves to crawl on your lap. You pick her up and plop her on your thigh, cradling her and trying your damndest to not wail right there.
“Mumma bootiful, mumma.”
Again, you freeze. You pull away slightly, fat tears rolling down your cheeks with fervor this time. “What…?”
“Mumma bootiful!”
“Mumma’s beautiful?”
“Yeah!”
Your lip wobbles and you tug her closer, “my baby… what did I do to deserve you? My cutie Kaiya.” You give her a flurry of kisses on her cheeks, and it has her giggling in joy.
“Mumma give kisses!”
“Mumma will always give you kisses,” you promise. You plant a few more to her temple, only stopping to take a few minutes to sniff her clean hair, rub her soft cheeks, and enjoy the silence of just you and your little girl.
A sudden kick to your side has you snapped from your daze, and Kaiya gasps excitedly.
“Which baby’s kickin, mumma?” She asks, and you ponder the thought for a minute. “Sachie or Sachiko?”
You think on it, then plant a kiss to her nose, “I think it’s Sachie; I think she’s got daddy’s sassiness, don’t you think?”
“Yeah,” agrees, and with one more kiss to her temple, you nudge her softly to get up.
“Come on, stink. Let’s watch a movie before daddy comes home to ruin the fun.” At your words, she giggles and gets up, bouncing down the halls and leaving you to quickly clean the bathroom.
With a small bowl of veggies and a Disney movie playing on the tv, you pull a blanket over you both and let the calmness of Encanto bring you to a state of being half asleep; You’re not entirely sure when Rintaro finally does come home, but there’s a new movie playing, and Kaiya leaps off the couch excitedly.
“Daddy!”
You hear bags drop and your eyes open exhaustedly in an attempt to greet him, but the heaviness in them lingers as you try to keep them open. You hear Rintaro shushing Kaiya softly, followed by a few plants of wet kisses on her cheek. There’s murmurs of conversation, and you hear Rintaro’s steps coming closer as you stretch. “Hey babydoll; stay comfy, I’ll come get you in a bit.”
“Gotta get the chicken for tomorrow…”
“Huh?”
Kaiya giggles, “mumma still sleeping.”
“Guess so,” he chuckles. He plants a kiss to your head, mumbles to Kaiya to do the same, and your mind is so buried in its exhaustion to process even getting up to greet your man. “Come on Kaiya. Let’s get you to bed.”
“Okay daddy!”
There’s no footsteps that you can process, but you do hear one final thing that has you curling into the warmth of your blanket in search of his embrace.
“Mommy really is beautiful, isn’t she stink?”
“Mumma’s bootiful!”

ope don't mind me i'm just gonna-- *sets this down next to your constantine post*
The batkids have all fallen in line like Thomas is their superior officer and they've all basically decided Dick is getting thrown on the pyre (because cop) when Jason slowly raises his hand like he's back in school.
Jason, who lives for chaos, putting on the Sad Orphan Eyes that Dick taught all of them how to do, saying "Abuelo, you know I died? The clown who killed me is still alive."
All the other kids jump in with "oh he's right nonno" etc etc "don't worry bambini your nonno will take care of it" etc etc
(and while Thomas and Martha aren't exactly thrilled Jason is a crime lord, he's so much better at it than fucking Carmine. So the boy is ambitious! There are worse things to be. Thomas then slips Jason a fiver when Bruce isn't looking like grandparents do)
((also also the kids calling martha and thomas grandma/grandpa in whatever other language they grew up speaking))
just thinking that thomas highkey loves being a grandparent. absolutely considers it a promotion. softest pushover of a man but also the scary dog privilege for all of his grandchildren
NONNO THATS SO ADORABLE IM GONNA CRY— ok. But you know what? Pepa and Felix from Encanto dynamic between Martha, Thomas and Alfred.
Alfred trying to tell their grandkids about the epic love story between them, and Thomas keeps on interjecting with wildly inaccurate information (he wants Damian to find him as cool as possible)
Martha, with moscow in her voice, “You’re telling the story or is he?”
“I’m sorry amore go on ^^”
Bruce gags in the background like the world’s firstborn hypocrite.
But also, southern Thomas Wayne,,, wears the fringe styled boots with gemstones on them and sparkly jacket and talks like a honey pie, but has a glare that can silence a whole table if needed be.
He’s extremely sad about Destiny’s Child breaking up, (Dick had to deliver the news, which was a whole other experience) but BEYONCÉ HAS A COUNTRY ALBUM YOU SAY?? Sign him the FUCK up.
Bruce, under his breath: no one listens to country,,,
Thomas: oh shut i. You know, your mama and I made YOU on the dinner table with Love is a Butterfly playing in the background—-
Jason: rapidly spits his food out

hiii! In regards to the "Guillermo del Toro Says “We Have to Rescue” Studio Animation From “Emoji-Style Behavior”" article/statement, do u have examples of animation that specifically is & is not this type of expression/animation? Bc it's rly hard for me to actually picture this and like I need examples ahaha
Disclaimer - I was not at this specific talk, so I don't have the full context and I know from reliable sources - friends of mine that DID attend it - that it's not all he said there, so that article is pretty much only relying spicy chosen bits. That being said, I will focus on this paragraph.
Getting more specific, he went on to detail what he despises about certain lazy proclivities in commercial animation, notably how characters and emotions are “codified into a sort of teenage rom-com, almost emoji-style behavior.” He added, “[If] I see a character raising his fucking eyebrow, or crossing his arms, having a sassy pose — oh, I hate that shit. [Why] does everything act as if they’re in a sitcom? I think it is emotional pornography. All the families are happy and sassy and quick, everyone has a one-liner. Well, my dad was boring. I was boring. Everybody in my family was boring. We had no one-liners. We’re all fucked up. That’s what I want to see animated. I would love to see real life in animation. I actually think it’s urgent. think it’s urgent to see real life in animation.”
What he talks about here is something I find omnipresent in modern American animation, or from studios that are funded by and/or trying to sell to americans (ex: Illumination McGuff). Here del Toro specifically mentions characters and emotions and how they are codified, which would include how characters are written, how animated their emotions and body language are, how they interact... He also mentions studio animation, an important distinction - this does not include indie animators!
A few things, adding * to those he's specifically calling out here, and more of my own that are not stated but I feel match the style
*one liners
*the "dreamworks face"
*sassy attitude
*quick banter
*taking poses
looking into the camera
overtly smooth, cartoony body language
characters explaining their emotions, plot resolutions around this
I will now get to examples, starting by a comparison between two animated films. Both of these films are contemporary, family-audience, french animated films. They share similarities in setting, being medieval fantasy fairytales about female heroes. One of these films was made with an american audience in mind (Pil), and the other caters to a french audience (Dragon Princess). You can compare how the characters act in both trailers:
youtube
youtube
Try and only focus on dialog, body language and expressions, barring art style and story!
Feature films that, in my opinion, also fit that "emoji style behaviour" (* for those I have not fully watched) any why:
Turning Red: the sass, the one liners, body language, camera looking, quick banter, plot resolution with characters explaining their emotions. The whole film fits
Puss in Boots: The last wish: sass, one liners, body language, banter, characters explaining their emotions. Scenes like Puss meeting his past lives and the dog's dialog are strong offenders
The emperor's new groove: sass, one liners, posing, banter
Encanto: sass, posing, banter; the explaining their emotions to drive the plot is ridiculously present to the point where I'd say del Toro was vagueing that one with the family example
Klaus: posing, banter, body language, explaining their emotions
*Nimona: sass, posing, banter, expressions...I only watched the trailer so can't say much but it leans HARD into the rapid fire quip territory with emotional resolution
*Trolls: sass, posing, banter, body language, camera looking...
Regarding films that do not do this, the quick answer would be...watch foreign (=not american) and/or older films. Nowadays with internet a massive catalogue is available, although the USA has such a monopoly on animation via its advertising budget other countries don't have that those films can be harder to find especially if you only use english-speaking internet.
As most studio animation is for a young or family audience and my entire example list above is, I will give some recommendations of films that are also for such an audience, but with older and worldwide picks. Some of these films are fully available on YouTube (although not in english always), so I'll be linking that when possible!
Mom is pouring rain (France, 2020s) (trailer): A shorter film about a little girl sent to live with her grandmother while her mom heals from depression. Has emotions front and center but expressed and animated in a way typical of modern french animation, with cartoony designs but subtler, more "boring" acting
The little prince and the eight headed dragon (Japan, 1960s): Beautifully animated in a style distinct from anime, this is a simple folktale adaptation. Fully on YouTube, albeit in its original english dub who's quality is frankly not great.
Next! (UK, 1990s): Stop motion short by an animator who specifically explores subtler, harder to animate expressions, as well as the art of theater, represented here by a Shakespear puppet playing out his works as a one-man show.
Ramayana (India, 1990s): Animated version of the legend of the same name, coupling a Ghibli art style with your ancient legend's large scale battles and polite heroes.
Ne Zha (China, 2010s)(trailer): that trailer is dead serious, it's actually a pretty damn silly movie! Including this one because as a big CGI animated film it's interesting to compare to what Pixar/Dreamworks/etc is doing.
...I'm realizing that I included a whole lot of animated folk tales so for modern chinese animation I'll also name Legend of Hei (2020s)(trailer), an original fantasy film with indie origins and a whole lot of over the top action.
As for films from the US that do NOT match that style? As a country the US has a rich history of animation asides of Disney! I personally grew up on Tex Avery and Looney Tunes cartoons who (pre-90s) are great examples of this.
For more adult films, I'll link my list of mature animation recommendations!
My ask remains opens for any clarifications :) have a nice day!

I know it’s probably been said before but as an artist I can’t help but praise the character design of encanto
Tumblr media
Like look at this whole cast of characters who are all related to eachother and still so distinct! One of my all time favorite facts about this movie is that the family are color coordinated! I love that so much because not only does it make it easier for the audience to tell which character comes from what side of the family but it’s also visually appealing!
Also the fact everyone’s outfit contains symbolism relating to their gift!? genius. and mirabels skirt being her own personal scrapbook where you can see she has everyone’s symbol a clever way to display her genuine pride for her family! Isabelas dress being closer to almas magenta than the other members of julietas family emphasizing shes closer with alma and is seen as her successor! I especially love how after “what else can I do?” She changes her dress colour to a dark blue representing that she’s finally found herself and doesn’t want to be just almas clone! She feels more comfortable with her own family and shows it by representing their color!
Also let’s talk about how pepas family all wear warm hues as shown to be bright, fun and ultimately happy. Which makes a lot of sense considering how pepas gift requires her to be happy all the time to avoid “bad weather”. Her family also wear warm tones to possibly help her maintain this and also because compared to what we see in the movie pepas children have a little less pressure and are considered more fun to be around! Also the fact green and magenta are opposite colors on the color wheel and Bruno and alma have a strained relationship. genius.
I just want to appreciate the character design because I feel like it’s just so creative and has had so much thought and heart put into it <3

Batfam X Encanto AU, with powers decided by their ages (it kinda got away from me at the end)
As the baby of the family, Damian gets Antonio’s animal speaking powers and absolutely is living his best life
Skipping Duke since he has his own powers already, we have Tim as Mirabel and Steph as Camilo. As tempting as it would be to switch them, I think there’s great angst potential in Steph never being sure if Bruce actually values her or just finds her powers useful.
Also angst in Tim being the only one without powers having to work to prove himself and Bruce being terrified as Jason has Luisa’s strength and was still struck down.
Outside of that Jason’s power doesn’t change that much, neither does Dick with Isabela’s powers, just now uses vines to swing around. Cass is a bit weird because she’d have Delores’ power, so now you have a girl who hears everything but can’t understand it. I mean it’d be helpful in the field, but I imagine it would get overstimulating quickly, especially trying to focus on one conversation while she’s just starting to learn English.
Finally we have Alfred, Barbara, and Bruce. I picked a random triplet for each since they’re the oldest, so Alfred gets magic healing cooking, obvs, Babs gets Bruno’s powers to match her Oracle branding (we’re not gonna talk about how this affects the killing joke or how Bruno made prophecies for others but never for himself ok?), and Bruce gets Pepa’s powers.
I mean like in a meta way Gotham was literally made to reflect Bruce's mental state, but what if that was true in universe? What if it's rained everyday since that night in the alley? What if you're trying to fix a city and you can't even fix your own brain? What if you're just making it worse? Worse weather, worse conditions, worse things you're willing to do to get out.
What if you're Batman, with an unreadable face, yet your emotion can be read on a thermometer?
What if you can't feel it in the Watchtower, but the weather warms up when you tell that old Bat a joke? What if the skies clear up when he knows you're flying to him?
What if you're Dick Grayson who can make the sunshine with your smiles? What if you're used to getting rained on when you try to talk?
What if you're Jason Todd, and the rainbow you once made only come out in the reflection on the hailstones he drops every time they mention your name? What if you once wanted nothing but thunder clouds, but now you want lightening to strike at everything but you?
What if you're Tim Drake, holding back a hurricane? Stephanie, reasoning with fog? Alfred, who's given up trying to change him, just grateful when it drizzles instead of snows?
What if you've mastered control as best you could and it's still not enough? What if you're trying to be some sunny playboy when all you want is to be a kid again? Could you keep it from pouring down on everything you love? Could you stop your rain from eroding everyone down?

Rise Ponderings:
The Turtles With Japanese Names
I've seen a lot of headcanons lately that support the "Rise boys' given names ARE their colours and they only got the artist names later on" narrative so I'd like to share my own.
Rise Splinter is undoubtedly very Americanised but I think that despite him forsaking his familial duties and old life, he’s still Japanese, is still a Hamato. So, subconsciously, he gave the boys Japanese names (of their corresponding colours, of course).
On that note, for all that Splinter has Celebrity-Who-Gives-Their-Kids-Unique-Names energy, I believe that he would still have enough decency to give them somewhat proper Japanese names not just 'Aka', 'Ao', 'Murasaki' and 'Orenji'.
However, for a period of time, the English-colour-names Splinter uses in the show would have been how addressed each other because they are, for the most part, an English-speaking household. Until an eight-year-old April came along insisting that those weren't 'real names', the turtles English names were 'Red', 'Blue' etc.
After adopting 'proper' English names, those became the common form of address, though Splinter still calls them by the English colours because it's a habit for him. They don't mind.
They don’t use their Japanese names often. It’d mostly be during serious-talk time, in official stuff, calling someone by their full name or teasing.
Ironically, in Splinter's (read: my) effort to not be a basic bitch, most of the boys' Japanese names are female. You can bet they tease the shit out of each other about it. The only one that actually takes offense to the teasing is Donnie whose name is very common and recognisable, so he always gets asked why he has it and/or if he realises that it's a girly name.
The Names
*NOTE: I'm using Kanji here. Fair warning, they could be written wrong, so if there are any Japanese speakers out there, do correct me.
Hamato 'Raphael' Shuiro
Tumblr media
Shuiro 朱色 = vermilion
Raph’s name is the only one that isn’t a real given name but I thought it suited him.
Colour Symbolism:
Besides being one of the most dominant colors in Japanese culture, red is associated strongly with authority, strength, sacrifice, passion, joy, and happiness. It's also regarded as an auspicious color in Japan.
Frequently said to have Eldest Daughter Syndrome by the fandom, Raph is the ultimate authority among the brothers. He self-appoints as leader not because he necessarily wants to be, but because as the oldest and the biggest, he feels like it's his responsibility to look after the others. Which often takes great strength and sacrifice. Surface Pressure from Encanto, anyone?
Tumblr media
Furthermore, red, specifically vermilion, is very symbolic in Japanese architecture:
Red is the color of torii – Shinto shrine gates – temples, and traditional daruma dolls. Red is said to scare away evil spirits and represent protection, strength, peace, and power.
All in all, very fitting for the big brother and family protector, if you ask me.
Hamato 'Leonardo' Aoi
Tumblr media
Aoi 青い = blue
Aoi is a unisex name; meaning hollyhock flower when used for girls and blue for boys. I'm using the male meaning for Leo.
Colour Symbolism:
Blue commonly represents the sea and the sky (for which Japan is surrounded) and symbolizes purity, dignity, calmness, stability, security, and fidelity. Blue is also regarded as a lucky colour.
In this case, blue is rather in juxtaposition with Leo's personality, but looking at it from a franchise perspective, blue is indeed a leader's colour.
Tumblr media
Back then, Japanese society was strictly hierarchical and displayed through the colour of their robes. Of the colors that were allowed for common folk, the color blue was work by higher ranking people. It symbolized wealth and prestige, while also remaining a color of the common folk.
That being said, Leo's a little different from his predecessors. Eventually, he will grow into the role of the leader we know and love. But even when he was unburdened from being leader, he was still the strategist. Leo's leadership in fights is a balance between what is uniquely Rise and the mission-mindset of the leaders in blue who came before him, strategies that are fun, wacky and maybe a little unorthodox yet still as effective for the team.
Hamato 'Donatello' Sumire
Tumblr media
Sumire 菫 = violet
Sumire is usually a girl's name but I don’t think Splinter would’ve cared all that much about gender.
Donnie doesn't either and even likes his name, though it has caused him a lot of grief over the years. A lot of people think it's strange for a guy with his personality to have such a feminine name, and he's really sick of having to defend his name after introducing himself. Part of why he wanted 'Donnie'.
Colour Symbolism:
Like in the West, purple in Japanese culture is associated with royalty, as purple dye was rare and only available to those of a higher status. It can also reflect on nobility, spirituality, and wisdom.
Out of everyone, Donnie embraces his colour about the most. His clothes are purple, his tech is purple, his lab is bathed in purple lighting. Purple is Donnie's thing. This, in a way, ties in with the colour's exclusivity back then.
Tumblr media
Flower Symbolism:
In Hanakotoba (flower language), the meaning of violet is sincerity, a small love, and a small bliss. Violets are a common gift, as they are an ideal way to show appreciation for a family member or friend and to express sincerity or love.
I think this is very Donnie. What he lacks in the emotional department, he makes up for  through his tech. He creates things for his family, making them all kinds of personalised gizmo. Sometimes it results in disaster but the intention to help is there. Gift-giving is his love language.
Hamato 'Michelangelo' Mikan
Tumblr media
Mikan 蜜柑 = tangerine
Mikan is a common Japanese girl name. Baby girls named "Mikan" are usually joyful, positive-thinkers, smiley and generally happy people.
Mikey loves his name and doesn't care that it's girly and cute, no matter how the others tease him about it. (SIDE NOTE: I swear the near-matching names wasn't intentional. I was just looking for a name that means mandarin orange for a bit I'm writing).
Colour Symbolism:
Orange is symbolic of love, happiness and the sun.
The youngest of the family, Mikey is optimistic and cheerful. He brings joy and colour to the household through his art. He encourages everyone to be express their love openly and always tries to be supportive.
Tumblr media
Fruit Symbolism:
Besides good fortune, wealth and longevity, the fruit mikan can be tied to family because of its role in Japanese traditions. In Japan, there is a word “Kotatsu de Mikan”, which means:
A family sits around a kotatsu (a traditional Japanese table with an electric heater attached to the underside), watching TV and eating mikan —  the traditional picture of a harmonious family seen in the wintertime.
TLDR; I really love how each turtle has a role to play in the family, how their respective colours are so appropriate for who they are as people, and I wanted their Japanese name to reflect that.
Mikey is all about family. He's the heart, always the peacemaker, always bringing everyone together.

Reader like isabella from encanto.( has magic to create plants/flowers) When reader was a baby flowers would suddenly pop into their hair, confusing the ror family. Years later teen! Readers friend says something that flusters them and the flowers pop into their hair, how does the family react?
-Being a human child, many of your massively adopted family were surprised when you obtained the ability to create flowers, waving your hands around and blossoms of various colors appearing.
-It was rather cute, when you were little, when there were times you couldn’t control your powers, like when you sneezed, and little flowers would appear at random spots in your hair.
-You grew up growing stronger through playing, creating flower showers or growing massive gardens, most of them with no real pattern or organization, at least until you got older.
-You loved using your abilities to grow beautiful gardens, creating beautiful areas for couples and making so many people happy and you just loved to go and have fun, using your vines to swing around, giving your family mini heart attacks.
-When you were a teenager, you had complete control over your abilities, except for things like getting scared or sneezing still- that was one thing you couldn’t control, but then again, sneezes were something nobody could control.
-You were definitely a beautiful young lady in Valhalla, there were many admirers, as well as several suitors who had gone to your family for permission or propose, only to be rejected.
-You didn’t know this, about the suitors, mainly because they didn’t feel like anyone was worthy of their precious princess- plus they wanted these suitors to approach you first, because if you approved of them, then they would at least listen to this evil man who wanted to take you away, instead of just throwing him out.
-You were walking around with your friends in the Norse gardens, as Odin asked you to brighten the place up a bit for the garden party he was hosting, something you were happy to do- but that’s why he did it, because he knew it would make you happy.
-Your friend bumped your hip with her own, giggling softly, “So~ I saw you and that cute god from the Hindu pantheon talking the other day. Want to elaborate?”
-Your family, who was nearby, all turned as they heard this, eyes wide and they could only stare in horror as small pink flowers appeared all over your hair, showing that you were embarrassed as you turned from your friend, holding your cheeks, “We- we were just talking- nothing big.”
-Your friend couldn’t help but grin, pulling one of the flowers from your head, twirling it in her fingers, “Uh huh~ sure Y/N~”
-Your face flushed as more flowers appeared, getting caught as your family was preparing their weapons, wanting to find out this man that you had affections for- they needed to have a word with him.

Watching the making of Wish
-Patting their backs for reusing animation as an homage. Like yeah, it’s nice, there’s work behind that, but it’s the way they say it, like: “We’ve worked hard! Trust us!” We know animation is hard and the problem with Wish was never the animation.
-I didn’t know Sabino was based on Roger from The Aristocats. I love Roger, he’s delightful. Poor Sabino just looks bland in comparison.
-They say Asha has her good and bad traits (which isn’t true) and is so brave to go against what she has believed her whole life. I've seen that done way better and with actually compelling characters.
-“She has to balance being a good friend and family member to speaking the truth and I think we can all relate to that” Well… nope. All those things can be different things. And both your friends and family should help you or at least listen to you.
-Saying that the “I want” song explains how the character is, like… duh.
-Well, yes, Ariana DeBose did great with what she was given.
-So Asha has freckles because some people of North Africa and Southern Spain have freckles… what? Any skin color can have freckles. And I can’t talk about North African people but Andalusian aren’t quite freckled (yes, that’s the name of Southern Spain). Also, I never saw her as mixed. She totally follows more of her mother’s culture. That’s why I don’t like her calling her father’s father saba. Her mother’s father would be her saba and her father’s father her abuelo.
-I love Bill Schwab’s designs, he’s a great artist. But he was only told Asha’s age, race and height. Which yeah, it’s important, but for designing a character you should think about their personality too, because that also translates into their features, hairstyle, clothes and mannerisms. We still don’t know anything about Asha. Is she shy? Likes comfy clothes? No, wait, she’s adorkable.
-They talk about Disney Princess gowns using elements from the current period where they were made (something quite interesting) but they just put the Modern twist in Asha’s hairstyle. Like, what were you afraid of?
-Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but Schwab’s just did his job with a model sheet and that was the ONLY reference they had for animating Asha for a while. Then one of them used his daughter as inspiration and then Ariana came with lots of ideas. They didn’t know how Asha moved for the longest time! Their lead character!
-They say Asha is pure energy, which is… somehow correct? Like she’s just awkward and making those weird moves and trying to be cute and funny. The movie is done and nobody knows yet who the heck is Asha as a character.
-Apparently, Asha has details of pumpkin seeds all over her clothes and she’s wearing periwinkle because of the idea of making her THE Fairy Godmother. I still think she looks better in orange.
-Seeing the voice acting outtakes was good. But now I wish the Bland Dwarfs looked more like the actors. All of them have interesting features that could have been implemented in the designs instead of making them clones of the Encanto family and the mother from Strange World.
-The first deleted scene is after Sabino retrieves his wish and he sings a song. I would have put it in the end as a farewell song with everyone joining it.
-"The Wish equation" is to have a true wish, be responsible of it and… finding support? Fight for it? Exclude fear? Accept change? What are we even talking about? A dream career?
-They say the FG gave Cinderella the dress but couldn’t make the Prince fall in love with her, so she was supporting her! Like… Cinderella just wanted to go to the ball. BAM, there you go, a new dress, WISH GRANTED. Cinderella’s wish wasn’t to make the Prince fall in love with her, she didn’t even know him yet!
-“Music happens when you’re too overwhelmed with emotion.” This clip plays AFTER a snippet of "Welcome to Rosas". I guess Asha was too overwhelmed with being late. That shouldn’t have been a song, she should have told us about Rosas in the book opening.
-They wanted it to be like a fairytale and then hired a pop composer. Like the director says she grew up with the Disney Renaissance Era. Which used Broadway music!
-They talked about this earlier but “This wish” was the song that helped them write the movie, just like "Let it go" made them rewrite Frozen. So you can tell they didn’t have much to work on, maybe an idea: “Hey, just do a fairytale about wishes for our anniversary.”
-The songwriter was so overwhelmed with the commission she had to reach a friend to help her.  Maybe because nobody actually knew what the movie was about? But hey, she’s the youngest to ever write a Disney OST.
-You know? The more I hear “This wish” the more I’m sure it’s the best song of the entire soundtrack.
-Hey, I know that guy in the archive! I’ve seen this clip before!
-I’m just hearing they didn’t know what the heck to do and dived into the archive for inspiration. I like the idea that they studied the greatest artists for some scenes, but sadly, all that is lost in the movie. They scenes are too short to appreciate the animation, but A+ for effort.
-They thought doing a fairytale illustration style was difficult to do… in 3D. Just don’t do it in 3D! Also, I don’t think it’s that difficult, Blue Eyed Samurai did something great.
-The composition is interesting and the backgrounds too, but the characters look quite bad.
-The illustration style led to the backgrounds (and everything) being in focus, which I think it also makes the movie look weird. Look at any old painting: the background is less detailed than the main focus (less brush strokes). They could have gone that direction. The backgrounds of Wish are too detailed a lot of the times and always in focus, so it’s distracting.
-BTW, most of this is: “We did this like in this movie, that like in that movie…” but, what’s original? What makes Wish its own movie?
-They talk about lines like lineart in animation, which we’ve seen it masterfully in Spiderman. But here is so subdued it doesn’t add anything.
-“Wouldn’t it be great to have a warmer climate than the one we’re used in fairytales?” Yeah, because there’s snow in Encanto and Hercules. Also, nothing tells us that’s a warmer climate. Google “Andalusia”, please. There’s flowers in bright colors everywhere, white houses, narrow streets and people, just a lot of loud and happy people. That’s Southern Spain for you all.
-At least with Frozen we CAN TELL it’s Norway. Here, there’s nothing that says SPAIN. Give us people eating serrano ham or tortillas, maybe put a bull around there, have them drink wine from botijos and play guitars!
-Again with the “this was based on this”. Rosas was inspired by The Sleeping Beauty: Germany and France. That’s a whole different architectural design! There’s no verticality as main focus in Mozarab architecture, is all about curves.
-“So it’s your fault.” Yeah, that doesn’t sound fun. I have the feeling you’re not telling a lot of things.
-You know, another Fantasia would have been great. Maybe one with all the Disney characters.
-This is now about the story of Disney, so yeah, padding. Also, way to use “At all costs” in the background. We don’t want to remember what you’ve done in the past, we just want you to tell a good story again.
-This should have been the beginning, the “wish upon a star” that put Wish in motion.
-It was going to be about the origin of the wishing star?
-“Return of Disney villain” Hahahahahahah…
-They didn’t know how bad Magnífico could be and made him do mean stuff like smashing Sabino’s guitar (they called it a guitar here).
-Also, apparently he was going to be shirtless in a scene. Like, you know, a Disney villain.
-We don’t watch him BECOME a villain, we watch a magic book CONTROL him!
-“With "This is the thanks I get" I was like, oh, yeah, we have a narcissist.”, so they didn’t know anything about Magnífico until the song was written! That’s why he doesn’t act like a narcissist much until that song and why the mirror ending felt rushed.
-“When Chris Pine came in I was like: that’s it, that’s the character.” Because they didn’t even had designed it? Like, that’s literally him!
-He did give it all to that song.
-Magnífico was an alchemist?
-“We didn’t want people to know he was evil right away.” Every poster and article: “Disney’s new villain, everybody!”.
-“Makes him more dangerous the quieter he is.” Magnífico in the end battle: eyes fully open, screaming, laughing.
-Oh, Star, here we go. He was going to be pure energy as well… just like Asha! Yeah, we were robbed. BTW, he’s not like Genie or Maui. Maui and Genie aren’t even the same!
-He could have been a fantastic creature as well. And all those designs look crazily fun. But also that’s the kind of exploration you do at the beginning of the production, not in the middle. Unless someone meddles…
-Someone went out to design different sparkles for Star but I could only see it being adorkable. Focused on the face so the sparkles weren’t even noticeable.
-“…they put their personality on it (Star)” Yeah, because none of these characters had any personality… nor have it now that the movie is done.
-People being made of stardust is one of the most beautiful scientific facts. “You are a star” is the worst song in the movie. No wonder it took so long to write.
-Nope, Doc was a leader. Dalia is just there… talking. Of course she’s a way to get the medal of  “we put a disabled character” but at least she has more personality than Asha.
-BTW, just saw the Story Artist wearing a pin with a Pride flag in the shape of a Mickey.
-“She’s just a young woman, going with her life.” “And succeeding.” Yeah, representation is good, but it’s better if you’re not talking about how good you are for doing it.
-Also, we have mixed-race representation, older people with dreams representation, etc. but hey, that girl has a crutch, we’re cool.
-“Animals in Disney have to be smarter than people.” Why? Just why? And also, Valentino is no way smarter than any of the other characters. So why say that?
-“(Alan Tudyk) He pretty much made the whole character.” Yeah, because it looks like nobody had any idea of how these characters were.
-“Inspiration can came from anywhere.” You just COPY-PASTED the ideas of others.
-“Everybody has seen me crying in the studio.” For a good or bad reason?
-Ending with a Walt quote proclaiming they always do their best job… huh…
-“It served the story better to have Amaya as a good person.” Yeah, nope. It made no sense for her to switch sides so easily.
-Sabino dying would have been such a strong way to start the story. Him stealing Asha’s diary… yep, not good.
-Reinforcing my theory that Disney wanted to move away from shapeshifters after the Nimona fiasco.
-Looks like they gave the chaotic energy Star was going to have to Valentino.
-Making any other animal talking surely was a mistake. What’s with the sassiness?
-Dalia wasn’t called like that?! BTW, the writers were so proud of her clutch not being mentioned but, in the deleted scene, it’s the first thing they do. Twice.
-“When you’re underestimated, they don’t see your power coming until it changes the world.” Whoa, just whoa. Disney writers, everybody.
-LOL, the deleted scene with the animals is so bad. But Magnífico was going to transform into a Beast, so… kinda interesting?
Here's the link, BTW.
And congratulations if you read this all. If you're interested, here are my own Wish rewrites: 1, 2.

What are some underrated fandoms that you’re in? I know most of your page is Hazbin hotel content, since it seems to be your longest Masterlist, and I wanna send in requests for other fandoms for you if you don’t mind!
I feel like I’m in a lot of fandoms, like I feel like sometimes I have the most bizarre interests, but I do wish some of the fandoms I liked were more well known, just because sometimes I get asks and I get so excited when people actually know what I’m talking about and like what I like you know? I wanna clean up my master lists a bit, just because I feel like some of them are messy, like the Hazbin Hotel Masterlist. I update it so much because I’m constantly writing for the fandom, which I love don’t get me wrong, but I update the Masterlist so much I just feel like its pointless to clean it up when I know the format is gonna fall apart again.
But anywho, here are a list of fandoms I’m in that I would love to write for! These are also on my pinned post!

Chapter 7 - All At Once
And all at once the crowd begins to sing,
Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.
Maybe you want her, maybe you need her,
Maybe you started to compare to someone not there.
The weekend's events had taken so much out of Spencer he didn’t have a chance to call you and apologise for his drunken behaviour.
In fact, if he was perfectly honest, with everything else going on he’d completely pushed it to the back of his mind.
On Sunday he spent the day at the mall with the girls in an attempt to cheer Daisy up.
Spencer loathed shopping. He only went shopping when he absolutely had to. Malls were too busy for his liking and most things were overpriced. But Daisy and Lily loved to shop, mostly because it wasn’t their hard earned money they were spending.
He spent the day traipsing after them, lugging bags full of their hauls around while they ran from shop to shop excitedly.
He practically brought Daisy a whole new wardrobe while Lily damn near put the toy store out of business.
They ate pretzels in the food court while Spencer rested his aching arms from being their designated bag carrier.
Lily fell asleep on the car ride home surrounded by all her new toys while Daisy excitedly looked over her new clothes.
He spent hundreds of dollars trying to make up for the way Maeve had hurt her. He even let the girls talk him into buying an even bigger, plusher and more expensive bed for a dog he hated who never slept in his own bed anyway.
By the time they made it home he was exhausted. He was too tired to cook so he ordered pizza which they ate in the living room while they rewatched Encanto for what had to be the fiftieth time.
When he put them to bed they were both singing We Don’t Talk About Bruno, which Spencer also had stuck in his head when he crawled into his own bed.
He also found himself humming it absent-mindedly in the shower the next morning, mentally cursing his girls for making him sit through that movie again.
It was still whirring its way around his brain while he made the girls breakfast.
He drove them to school after breakfast and dropped Taco off at the kennel and it was only after he was finally alone, his thoughts fell back to his monumentally stupid drunken mistake.
Checking his watch and seeing he had time before he had to be on campus he made a pit stop at the florists.
It was a good job he had time to spare because he spent an unfathomable amount of time staring at a wide variety of flowers in various colours.
He must have looked utterly lost as a young girl soon came over and asked if he needed help.
Yes, he most certainly did.
“I uh…I need something that says I’m sorry.” He toyed awkwardly with the strap of his satchel.
The girl gave him a slightly playful smile.
“You wouldn’t believe how often we get people in here looking for the exact same thing.”
“What would you recommend?”
“Well, lilies are great for apologising as they can express a new chapter. But roses are really romantic. White orchids are also good as they represent sincerity. And blue hyacinths look stunning in an apology bouquet.” She motioned around the various flowers she was describing while Spencer stared wide eyed in confusion.
“Uh…” he scratched the back of his neck. “All of them. Just put all of them in a bouquet. A huge one. It doesn’t matter what it costs.”
“Sure.” She looked a little startled by his choice, most guys just went for whatever was cheapest.
She admired his decision.
Spencer tapped his foot in the ground while the girl went about fashioning a giant bouquet of whites and blues and reds and yellows.
She tied them all off in a big red ribbon and looked proud by her creation.
Admittedly it did look beautiful and Spencer knew next to nothing about flower arranging.
He paid two hundred dollars for the privilege and thanked the young girl before hurrying out of the store barely able to see over the large array.
He quickly stopped at a coffee house and ordered an extra large cinnamon latte which was your favourite.
The flowers took up the whole front seat of the car and the smell was overwhelming so he had to drive with the windows open.
He felt heads turning and eyebrows furrowed into frowns as he got out of his car with the huge bouquet. It was like a large flashing beacon that he’d fucked up.
He tried to ignore all the eyes on him as he waited for you outside the psychology building, flowers in one hand, coffee in the other.
The weather was desperately trying to warm up and was slowly succeeding and the morning sun beating down on him made sweat gather at his temples.
The nerves didn’t help.
You couldn’t have looked any less amused when you spotted him, only just able to see him over the almost comically large bunch of flowers.
If he wasn’t standing right outside the building you needed access to, you would have walked any other direction to avoid him.
You clenched your jaw tightly and hugged your purse close to your body as you approached him.
“I’m sorry.” He spoke the second you were in earshot. “I am so, so sorry. I was drunk, not that that’s an excuse but I was. I had a bad day and I was a fucking idiot. I am so, so sorry Y/N.”
You didn’t say anything. Not a word. Honestly you didn’t have anything to say that wouldn’t either be fuck you or go to hell.
He proffered the flowers towards you.
“I’m really, really sorry.” He pouted a little.
He did look apologetic, almost pathetically so and there was a part of you that felt sorry for him.
Not a big enough part to forgive him though.
You took the flowers from his hand and Spencer momentarily believed things were going to be ok.
But then you dropped the bouquet on the floor and stamped heavily on them with your heeled boot.
You didn’t stop there.
You took the coffee out of his hand, removed the lid and poured the scalding liquid all over the crushed pile of flowers.
Spencer’s face fell.
“Oh come on, that was two hundred dollars worth of flowers.” He groaned, shoulders slumping.
“You think coffee and flowers are going to make up for what you did?” You spat at him.
“Not entirely. But I thought it might be a start.” He shrugged meekly, toying with his satchel.
“Well it isn’t.” You stomped on the flowers again. “You were a world class asshole, Spencer. You do not get to show up at my apartment drunk in the middle of night and try to force me into bed! And the things you said to me…I am not a fling. I am not looking to be a casual hook up and if that’s all you want then you should find someone else.”
“Y/N, I didn’t mean for you to-“
“Go to hell, Doctor Reid.” You cut him off, stamping on the flowers one more time for good measure. “Respectfully, go to hell.”
He watched you storm past him inside the building, knowing nothing he could say was going to make this better.
He’d really fucked this one up. And he had no idea how to fix it.
***
He left a cinnamon latte for you every single day for the next week in Monroe’s classroom.
He left post it notes on your car that told you how sorry he was.
He tried at every available opportunity to tell you to your face how sorry he was but every time you caught a glimpse of him, you would turn and walk in the opposite direction.
He didn’t blame you. But he wished you would give him a chance to explain.
Not that there was much to explain. He was drunk and he’d been forceful. He’d said horrible things to you.
An explanation wasn’t really warranted.
But that didn’t mean he was going to give up. He wasn’t giving you up without a fight.
It didn’t matter that the two of you had only been on one date, you were all he could think about. You’d left a lasting impression in his heart and he wasn’t letting you just walk away.
But he knew he couldn’t keep pushing you. You had to want to talk to him. If he kept trying to force you forgive him, he would end up pushing you away.
He had to give it time and hope that you would come to forgive him on your own.
In lieu of making things up with you, he had made up with Luke, even if slightly begrudgingly.
They’d talked on the phone for the best part of a whole evening after the girls were asleep. Luke apologised for the way things had come out. He hadn’t meant them quite as they sounded
Spencer in turn apologised for reacting the way he had, even though he still felt he was completely justified.
Luke surprised him somewhat when he asked him, “did you ever really deal with Maeve’s affair?”
“What do you mean?” Spencer frowned, putting his feet up on his desk and leaning back in his chair.
“When you talk about it, you always talk about the effect it had on your kids but never how it affected you.” Luke was in full on profiler mode. Spencer had heard that voice countless times.
“The fact that it affected my kids, affected me.” Spencer’s frown deepened.
“I know you say it was a marriage of convenience but you were together a long time, Reid. You must have had some kind of feelings for her. It must have hurt.” Luke’s tone was soft yet held a hind of accusation.
“Not especially.” Spencer shrugged.
“Spencer,” Luke’s timbre shifted. “The woman you spent a large portion of your life with cheated on you. Your house is still like a goddamn shrine to the life you used to have. And you’ve never gotten over your anger towards her. I think that’s because she hurt you more than you want to admit. You like to pretend you didn’t love her and that you’re unaffected by what happened because you think it’s easier to deal with if you pretend it doesn’t hurt. But sometimes, pain needs to be felt.”
“Have you ever thought about being a therapist?” Spencer rolled his eyes and sat up in the chair. “I’m fine Luke. I’m angry because she tore my family apart. I’m angry because my kids now only get to see their mother twice a month. I’m angry because I had to reevaluate my whole life after she left.
But I’m not hurt, I’m not heartbroken. And my house is not a shrine. I work and when I’m not working I’m taking care of my daughters and now some stupid dog too. I’ve been meaning to call Morgan to help me renovate it. I just haven’t had time.”
“If you insist.” Luke sighed. “I won’t keep pushing it. But just know I’m here if you ever need to talk.”
“I know. Thanks. But I really am fine.” Spencer stood up and stretched his back. “I’ll talk to you soon, yeah?”
“Yeah no worries. Talk soon.” Luke replied and then hung up.
Spencer kept his phone in his hand and typed out a quick text to you, almost identical to the ones he’d sent you every night this week.
📲 Y/N Y/L/N: I’m still so sorry. I miss you. Please talk to me. Goodnight, beautiful.
He checked in on the girls who were both sleeping soundly before having a quick shower and crawling into his own bed.
And once again, he dreamt of you.
***
It was probably for the best that you weren’t talking to him and that he hadn’t made plans with you for his child free weekend because he didn’t get a child free weekend.
He picked Lily and Daisy up from school on Friday and drove them to Maeve’s only for Daisy to refuse to get out of the car.
“Pumpkin, it’s your weekend with your mom, you have to go.” Spencer turned in his seat to face her.
“No.” She spoke stubbornly. “I don’t want to see her.”
“You can’t stay mad at her forever.” Spencer leaned over the centre console and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Yes I can.” She huffed.
“Why don’t you want to see mommy?” Lily spoke up from the backseat.
“Because I hate her.” Daisy stomped her foot on the floor.
“Daisy, please don’t say that in front of your sister.”
“Why? It’s true.”
Spencer sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
“What about if Taco comes to mommy’s with you?” It would be doing him a favour too.
“Yes! Let’s go get Taco!” Lily beamed.
“No!” Daisy raised her voice. “I’m not going in there and you can’t make me!”
She was right, he couldn’t.
So in the end Lily had stayed at Maeve’s and Daisy had come home with Spencer.
It was strange just having one of the girls, it wasn’t often the two were apart. It was almost like the days before Lily was born.
He cooked dinner for the two of them and they ate ice cream for dessert.
Daisy sat in Spencer’s office with him, laying on the floor with Taco while he graded papers.
Usually Spencer liked to work alone, the kids rarely came in his office. But he found the sounds of Daisy cooing over the dog relaxing and every now and again when he heard her giggle over the mutt it made his heart swell in his chest.
“Are you having fun there, pumpkin?” He asked her with an amused smile as he scrawled some notes on one of his students papers.
“Yeah, Taco is the best.” She giggled, giving Taco a belly scratch which he adored. “And it’s nice and quiet, like before Lily was born.”
Spencer’s pen dropped from his hand as he looked at the back of his daughter's head where she laid on her front on the floor, her thick dark hair tied up on the back of her head.
“What?” He frowned a little, thinking he must have misunderstood her.
She rolled over onto her back and propped herself up on her one good arm.
“I miss it sometimes. Before Lily was born and it was just you, me and mom. Did mom have an affair because of Lily?” She asked curiously.
Spencer tried to hide his shock, knowing his daughter could read his features.
He pushed himself up from his chair and rounded the desk, coming over to where Daisy and Taco laid.
He lowered himself carefully to the floor, grimacing a little as an ache spread through the old injury in his leg.
He sat next to her, stretching his legs out across the dark carpet.
“What your mom did was neither of your faults. You know that, don’t you?”
Daisy shrugged.
“Why did you have Lily? I miss being an only child.” She changed the subject.
“She’s your sister, don’t say that, please.”
“We were happy before Lily.” Daisy shrugged again, crossing her legs and pulling Taco into her lap.
“And we were happy after Lily too.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and she instinctively leaned into her fathers body.
“Do you think mom would have cheated on you if you didn’t have Lily?”
“I don’t know, pumpkin.” He sighed, pulling her closer. “But Lily isn’t the reason she cheated. And neither are you. I guess…I guess I just couldn’t make her happy.”
“It’s not that I don’t love Lily.” Daisy tugged at Taco’s ear. “I just miss having all of your love.”
Spencer felt his heart tear in half. He moved his hand from around her shoulder and cupped her jaw gently, guiding her to look at him.
“Daisy,” he spoke seriously. “Just because I love your sister, it didn’t for a second make me love you any less, ok? You’re my baby girl, the first time I held you in my arms I felt like I could breathe properly for the first time in my life. The first time you looked at me, I finally knew the reason I was put on this Earth. And that was to love you and be your father. Please never think I could love you any less. You are my whole world ok, pumpkin?”
He felt choked up by the end of his speech and he noticed Daisy had tears in her eyes.
She was quick to sit back and wipe her eyes on her sleeve.
“God, mushy much dad?” She scoffed and Spencer chucked.
He leaned in and placed another kiss at her temple.
“Love you too, pumpkin.” He laughed against her skin.
***
Spencer found Luke’s words were taking up too much space in his brain.
When he awoke Saturday morning he laid in bed for a while, staring at the ceiling and just enjoying a moment of peace before Daisy woke up.
Although it wasn’t all that peaceful.
He was ruminating on Luke’s implications of him living in a shrine.
It wasn’t as though Spencer meant to do that. He really hadn’t had the time to even think about redecorating.
Ok, maybe that wasn’t true. He had thought about it, quite often in fact. But there was always some kind of blocker between the thought and the action. For whatever reason, he’d never gotten over that hurdle of actually making a change.
But it wasn’t because he was clinging to his old life. He didn’t pine over his broken marriage, he didn’t wish for Maeve to see sense and come home.
But maybe there was a small chance that the reason he’d held off for so long was partly due to the fact that once he changed the house, there was no going back.
If he decorated it was effectively shattering his dreams of the future he’d planned even though, really, those dreams had been destroyed over a year ago.
Had he really been grasping at his old life so hard and not even realised?
Something had to change.
After breakfast he and Daisy went to the hardware store and he let her pick out a new paint for the living room.
It wasn’t much but it was a start. It was something to prove he wasn’t living in a shrine to his ex-wife.
Initially she’d chosen a gawdy bright green shade but thankfully Spencer had talked her down to a much more eye pleasing sage.
The two of them spent the day painting the room, well Spencer did most of it while Daisy kept getting distracted by Taco. And Daisy did only have one good arm, which she kept reminding him.
But by the time he was finished he felt accomplished. The new colour was much more his style than the buttermilk yellow Maeve had painted the walls when they moved in.
The only room he’d really aided in decorating was his office with its dark walls, leather desk chair and dark oak desk and bookshelves.
He’d still be working at the BAU when they moved in and as such wasn’t around much to help make decorating decisions.
He’d never disliked the way she’d designed the house but maybe it never quite felt like home as it should have.
The sage green walls felt more cosy. It was reminiscent of his old apartment, the apartment he’d loved so much. He felt comfortable with a darker aesthetic, which was probably strange but to Spencer it felt more homely.
Spencer always felt more at ease in darkness, he decided not to dwell too long on that thought and what that meant about his mental state.
He should call Morgan and have him gut this place and start again from scratch. But he wasn’t quite ready to take that step. And not because he was pining over his old life.
He didn’t know why. But not everything needed to have a reason.
Once the painting was done and feeling much more satisfied with his living situation, he cooked dinner for the two of them and after he let Daisy choose a movie which he fell asleep halfway through.
The closing credits woke him and he rubbed his eyes before focusing on Daisy who had her smartphone pointing at him.
“What are you doing?” He grumbled, feeling the weight of the dog was laying on his chest.
“Taking pictures.” She giggled.
“Why?” He shuffled up the couch a little.
“You look funny.” She snapped one more picture before her dad got mad.
“How do I look funny?” He scooted the dog off of him and sat up properly, rubbing his eyes again.
“See for yourself.” She handed him her phone and he stared at the photograph of his sleeping form, mangy dog sleeping soundly on him.
But that’s not what he was looking at.
“For the love of god!” He groaned, jumping up and dashing to the mirror by the door.
“The paint must still have been wet.” Daisy giggled again.
Spencer had two very distinctive sage coloured doggy paw prints on his face and many more covering his shirt.
He glanced around and saw a spot on the wall near the TV where the idiotic mutt had put his front paws in the wet paint.
There was a trail of the sage prints in the carpet from the wall to the couch.
“This is why I didn’t want a freaking dog.” Spencer huffed as he made his way to the kitchen to clean his face. “What time is it?”
“Uh…eight?” Daisy sounded unsure of herself.
“Which means it’s actually later than that and you don’t want to tell me because you don’t want to go to bed.” He chuckled, wiping his face with some kitchen paper.
“No.” Daisy whined. “Not true.”
“You know I’m wearing a watch, right?” As he said this he glanced at it and saw it was a little after ten. “Bedtime missy.”
“Boo!” Daisy sulked.
He finished up cleaning his face, thankful the paint seemed to come off easily and came back through to the living room where his stubborn daughter sat vigil on the couch.
“Come on, pumpkin. I can read to you if you like? We haven’t done that in a while.”
She pulled a face like she was contemplating this for a moment or two.
“Can Taco come to bed with me?”
“Sure, why not. It’s not like I’ve brought him two dog beds or anything.” He sighed.
Daisy happily picked up the little dog and carried him upstairs where she set him on her bed.
Spencer sat with him while she went through to the bathroom to change and brush her teeth.
He tucked her in and Taco curled up by her side.
Spencer slotted himself on the small part of the empty mattress that was left and Daisy handed him a book.
He read to her until she was sound asleep, snoring a little. She got that from her mother.
He kissed her forehead and switched off the light before creeping from the room.
He thought about having a drink but he was still ashamed of his actions the last time he drank so he decided against it.
He pulled out his phone as he flopped to the couch and sent you a text.
📲 Y/N Y/L/N: I really am so sorry. Please can we talk? I miss your voice. Goodnight, beautiful.
Spencer stared at the freshly painted wall and the paw prints left in it, still having Luke’s words swirling around his brain.
He didn’t love Maeve. He wasn’t heartbroken over her infidelity. He didn’t need to deal with what she’d done because he hadn’t affected him. Had it?
Somehow he found himself on his feet and moving books aside on the bookshelf that shielded his gun safe.
He hadn’t actually kept a gun in it for years, not since he left the bureau. But old habits die hard.
He entered the combination and opened the thick metal door. His hand shook a little as he pulled out the photo album kept hidden inside.
It was white once but was dirtied from fingerprints over the years. It was a little scuffed around the edges but that was probably from him stuffing it inside the safe that was just a little too small for it.
Spencer didn’t know why he kept in there. He supposed it was because he didn’t want the kids stumbling across it and having to look at it before he was ready, before he had the capacity to take this particular trip down memory lane.
He hadn’t even thought about the album in the year since he’d put it in there. He’d physically locked it away whilst mentally locking away the memories that went with the photographs.
He took it back over to the couch and tentatively flipped to the first page.
The first photograph depicted an unusually sunny fall day outside of DC city hall. Spencer wore a suit from his closet and Maeve wore a simple white summer dress, her pregnant belly very noticeable with the slim fitting nature of the dress.
They both smiled brightly while Morgan snapped the photograph of them showing off their matching gold wedding bands, Spencer’s free hand cupping her stomach that housed baby Daisy.
He saw no doubts in his eyes, no hint that he was only marrying this woman because he’d gotten her pregnant. He looked genuinely elated to be married. He didn’t remember ever feeling that happy.
On the next page was a series of photos with the backdrop of a hospital room.
Images of Spencer fussing over Maeve while she was in labour, a slightly fretful look on his features.
There was a photo of Maeve with the newborn on her chest, seconds after she was born and Daisy was held by her mother for the first time.
Another of Spencer in the worn leather chair next to the bed with the tiny seven pound baby cradled in his arms as tears streamed down his cheeks.
There were a couple more of the three of them together in the hospital room and as they left the hospital the following day, Spencer and Maeve held hands while his free one carried Daisy in her rocker.
The look on Spencer’s face in each one could only be described as pure bliss.
There were pictures of Daisy with each member of her new family, with her Aunties Emily, JJ and Penelope and her Uncles Derek and Aaron and grandpa Dave.
There were photographs from a few weeks later when they’d travelled to Vegas so Diana could meet her granddaughter.
Diana’s smile when she held Daisy for the first time was the brightest he’d ever seen on his mother. She’d been lucid that day, thank god, and had cried and cooed over the gorgeous little bundle her son had created.
Other photographs of Daisy’s first steps, her first time on the potty, her first Christmas and birthdays littered the pages.
Birthday cakes and presents wrapped for a child too young to understand what they were.
Gaudy Christmas jumpers set against the backdrop of an overly decorated tree. Paper hats from crackers adorned on heads. A small child overstimulated by a holiday she couldn’t comprehend.
And in every single one he and Maeve looked so happy. The images showed them sharing loving looks, exchanging soft touches.
If the photos didn’t exist, Spencer wouldn’t have believed it. His memories didn’t allow him to recall the joyful moments, only the hurt and the anger.
Even as he looked at them he struggled to remember ever feeling the way the man in the photographs looked.
The further into the album he got showed Maeve’s belly growing for the second time and more hospital photographs with Lily featuring Aunty Tara, and Uncles Luke and Matt.
More holiday photos lined the pages, this time with Daisy helping her sister open her presents.
Lots of photos of the two girls together riddled the pages. Daisy holding Lily’s hand while she learnt to walk, Daisy reading to her little sister. Daisy cuddling her new little sister and beaming proudly.
They looked like the perfect family, smiling for the camera. But what was hiding beneath? Were they ever really happy at all?
About a year after Lily’s birth, the photographs just stopped. The empty pages at the end of the album taunted Spencer.
They just stopped. Ended with no warning. It was as though all the happy, smiling faces of the pages before had died.
Maybe they had.
Tensions had been high between him and Maeve after Spencer gave up the BAU. He resented Maeve and to a certain extent his beautiful daughter, for having to give up a job he adored.
He was frustrated and exhausted all the time. He was making less money at Georgetown, which didn’t matter so much in the present as he had a substantial amount of savings, but not enough to send two kids to college. His future problems crossed over into his present day.
It took its toll on Spencer. He went to work, came home and doted on his daughters and barely said two words to Maeve.
He had a quick temper. His exhaustion manifested in anger and when he did talk to Maeve it was usually to argue with her about something.
He’d been distant, far away even when he was at home, and she’d been lonely. So she met Bobby who made her feel wanted.
Could he blame her for that? Was Luke right? He hadn’t been attentive to his wife and so she’d sought comfort elsewhere. Was it his fault she’d strayed? Had he pushed her to it?
He flipped the album back to the first page to their wedding photo. Was he to blame in all of this?
He was so wrapped up in his self pity, the knock at the door startled him.
He frowned to himself as he pushed himself to his feet and padded over to the door.
Who was knocking at his house so late at night?
He unlocked the door and cautiously it opened a fraction so he could see who was on the other side before he committed to opening it.
His frown only deepened when he looked into a familiar pair of eyes staring back at him from the dark.
He opened the door fully and braced himself against the door jamb.
“Y/N,” he swallowed. “What are you doing here?”

Okay thoughts on this video
As someone with dyspraxia and autism i don't like how she is going on about wanting 'smart' , 'hard working', 'humble' characters. I think Mirabel was definitely written to be autistic/dyspraxic/neurodivergent and to suggest that 'quirky' characteristics like 'clumsiness' 'talkativeness' 'awkwardness' mean that these characters are not smart and hard working is incredibly judgemental and problematic
The 90s characters had their 'quirks' but traits like opinionatedness , talkativeness, clumsiness and being eccentric shouldn't be treated as 'flaws' because they aren't flaws they are traits that some people will adore you for and some won't but these traits should be embraced and kids should be taught to embrace these traits instead of seeing them in a negative light
The Rapunzel V Tiana comparison absolutely no shade on Tiana here she is one of my favourite princesses but its needless to compare the two and call her the polar opposite to Tiana... like what does Rapunzel do as a character to suggest she is the opposite of humble?? also hard working Rapunzel has lived in a tower for 17 years of her life with no contact with the outside world how would she even know what a job is? also Rapunzel is very hard working at the things she can be hard working at to pass her time in the tower with all of the creative hobbies she does.
'adorkability' isn't always a sign of intelligence - no one ever said it was but it also isn't a sign of someone being unintelligent and people who judge people with these certain traits like that usually are the mean bullies type or the fake people who will be nice to your face but are actually anything but.
Again these 'flaws' shouldn't be treated as bad but its worth noting that villains will and should turn any trait against you as they are bad people and thats what bad people do like how Lady Tremaine turned Cinderella's kindness and hard working against her and used it to control her any trait can be used against you by someone cruel hearted and thats what should be being taught and awkwardness, clumsiness shouldn't always be used in a detrimental way any trait even the 'non quirky ones' can be used.
These quirky characters have been popular because parents want their kids to see movies without cookie cutter stereotypical Disney Princess and see flaws be embraced as well as having relatable, appropriate characters for them , rapunzel was very child like due to her isolation, Anna was awkward and the movie focused on sibling love, Moana was slightly awkward but a resourceful and adventurous princess who goes on a big journey and doesn't end up with a prince, Mirabel as i said was definitely written to be neurodivergent but she is smart...doesn't have any romantic interests...15 so younger than most of the princesses...creative... brings her isolated family member back into the family fold and helps her family unpack their generational trauma and gets her grandma to see that she is hurting her family. Then you have the characters of Merida not a quirky character but a strong character who doesn't look like a stereotypical princess or act like one and goes against being put in an arranged marriage but doesn't fall in love with anyone else and i thought after all the years of criticism of disney princesses this is what people wanted from them? my auntie never really been big on disney has allowed her kids to see movies like frozen, brave and encanto because they don't have the type of characters she didn't like.
Funny enough if there is one movie i watched again and thought this character is stupid its The Little Mermaid as much as i love Disney i didn't relate to many of the old characters out of all of them it was Belle i related to much with her love of reading and dislike of her town. I wish i had a smart but awkward, clumsy and creative character like Mirabel when i was a kid i also wish i had a character like Moana both being an adventurous intelligent heroine but also being awkward i really needed that.
Wish isn't out yet judging it already isn't fair on the actors in it and creative personnel behind it
Mulan's thing is that she wasn't the perfect daughter - Yes but it got the whole movie got a lot of criticism for misogyny even though all the ideas that Mulan needs to be the 'perfect feminine woman' that was mentioned in the start were disapproved at the end when she proved herself and defeated the bad guys
Moana and zootopia i have never seen the latter so can't comment on that one but again you can be smart, resourceful, hard working, kind and caring and still be awkward and clumsy - you say that it can't be logically for their characters? most people are complex and multi layered people there i have logically explained it
Disney isn't for kids - Yes Disney is for families and has a big adult fanbase but do you remember Hunchback of Notre Dame?? it wasn't a flop for most standards but for Disney in the middle of their famed renaissance era it definitely was and that was because it was a much darker, adult film and didn't appeal to little kids. Hunchback is a masterpiece one of my favourite Disney movies but i watched it first when i was 4 or 5 and back then i hated it because it was too adult for me to understand and thats why disney wont do big delves into topics because their main audience is the parents who want their kids entertained for a few hours.
Okay i have never watched wreck it Ralph but from the bits i have seen of Vanellope i always assumed she was a child character due to her size, style and personality and i looked it up and she is literally meant to be nine?? like she is childish and silly because she is a literal nine year old child and shock horror 9 year old children are childlike because they are literal children
I feel like i repeated myself so much in this but i disagreed with most of the statements in this video

encanto headcanon collection #30493929
Because she's constantly listening to people, Dolores is fluent in every language spoken in the Encanto. she hasn't told anyone except Mariano this (it's not a secret, just nobody else has asked)
Camilo upstages EVERY QUINCEANERA. doesn't matter HOW nice and unique the dress you find is, doesn't matter if you hide it from him, he WILL show up in a dress that's prettier and more ostentatious. nobody knows if he's pulling them from magazines or making them up or what. he has every gender but mainly his mom yells at him for being rude, says if he's going to be a woman he 'needs to be uglier'
Dolores doesn't get sensory overload in crowds. Her favourite hobby is sitting down listening to 18 peoples drama simultaneously. she gets extremely overwhelmed in quiet rooms when there's no other sounds to focus on except the things she's actually supposed to be listening to
Dolores is extremely face blind and can't ready body language at all, she completely relies on listening to people's bodies to recognise people and their feelings. When she loses her gift it becomes extremely obvious she is Very Autistic (she doesn't mind)
Bruno can magically sense how much time has passed, what time of day it is etc with perfect precision. Again nobody knows this until he loses his gift and reveals he has never in his life learned how to read a clock
Mirabel shuts out her parents a lot and isn't very close to them even though they get on fine. there is NO REASON for this she's just 15. they've literally never done anything wrong she's just like 'idk they don't understand me'
(but because she's not going through any kind of supernatural crisis they think she's doing great. smoothest adolescence ever. nailed it)
(when isabela went through puberty she just RUINED the local ecosystem)
Alma is openly socialist, anti-war, Encanto is a refuge of peace etc etc, so gay couples have gotten married in their Encanto. this headcanon exists simultaneously with 'alma sleeps with women because she's homophobic': Alma can never bring herself to sleep with another man since Pedro but sex with women 'doesn't count' so she HAS absolutely gotten down with several other old women in the village. gay love is real but not for her. rip
Bruno sold ONE emerald vision plate in 1951 and that's the sum of the entire family's money, but nobody understands money so all he uses it for is for allowance for the kids
Bruno is actually very good-natured about being mocked or laughed at. Because most people in the village would treat him with terrified politeness he considers it an upgrade
Bruno is making NO effort to counter the rumours about him at this point, he's too old, local children sneak up to him and ask if it's true he eats brains and he's just deadass like 'wouldn't you like to know'
Dolores has perfect recall with sounds/words but she pretends not to. life is easier that way
Antonio can talk to bugs they mainly just sit around saying things like 'Leaves' and 'it's sunny'. Isabela starts keeping bugs with him. sometimes they just sit down and have Bug Conversations. ('Antonio, I like leaves' 'Leaves')
As an aunt Julieta is incredibly fun, but Pepa is just Another Mom But Stricter. rip.
Bruno is just DOGSHIT at giving presents. they still bring up when he gave Julieta a hammer for Christmas

why waiting on a miracle is one of my favorite (and one of the most underrated) encanto songs:
Tumblr media
So this song in my humble opinion is one of the most under appreciated songs from the movie so I’m here to give it some appreciation! (Also the irony of the song being about being ignored and overlooked and that’s exactly what happened)
So waiting on a miracle is the classic “disney I want song” but to me this song is so much more than that. One thing that sticks out to me immediately is the fact unlike most I want songs, mirabel isn’t singing about wanting more than she already has shes singing about something she lacks but SHOULD have already. From the title most people gathered that she wants a magical gift like the rest of her family and whilst that is true I find it profound that it’s not the magic for the sake of magic she wants. It’s the appreciation from her family. All she wants is to contribute and fit in and she feels the only way she can do that is if she gets a gift. It’s also important to note unlike most I want songs mirabel doesn’t get *exactly* what she wants at the end which she mentions is a miracle. She does however end up getting her ultimate goal which is the acceptance and she doesn’t need a miracle to do that. Also with the title being “waiting on a miracle” a miracle is rare it’s thought to be something almost impossible or not even real. So for mirabels I want song to be about this shows that even she herself is aware it’s literally an impossible ask but she’s just dreaming of the possibilities if she got something as rare as a miracle.
I also found the instrumental quite genius as some have already pointed out all the madrigal songs are in 4/4 time… except this one. Waiting on a miracle is in 3/4 time as yet another subtle way to show she’s out of place. as lin manuel himself said “she’s literally out of beat with the rest of her family” so thanks for that lin the song was already sad enough but you just had to do that👍
also congratulations to mirabel for being one of the few disney characters to actually say when they aren’t ok “I’m not fineeee” I know that seems minuscule but it’s so refreshing to hear a character actually express that they are feeling negative emotions and it’s ok to express that. Especially since bottling up emotions is so common nowadays it’s a good message for the next generation <3
also waiting on a miracle kinda sorta predicts the whole movie? “I would move the mountains, make new trees and flowers grow” “I would heal whats broken show this family something new” she ended up achieving all of that in the movie’ 1. The mountains split when the house was collapsing. 2. She helped isabela discover what else she could do thus making new trees and flowers grow. 3. She basically healed the entire family which is what was broken and she showed them all they are enough without gifts! So that’s just a nice little bit of foreshadowing.
Ok now back to the sad stuff! in the lyric “I would heal whats broken” turns out she’s not referring to the entire family but herself. She views herself as broken because she didn’t get a gift and she wants to fix herself 💔 another lyric to note is “cant keep down the unspoken invisible pain” a lot of people talk about how inconsiderate the madrigals are towards mirabel but the thing is they don’t realize how it effects her. We know she can put on a hell of an act (see family madrigal song) and she herself refers to her pain as “invisible” she’s hiding it from everyone so they don’t realize how badly she’s hurting because she puts on the whole optimistic act. So another way the movie demonstrates the communication issues within the family.
And how can I forget mirabel literally telling herself at the beginning “dont be upset or mad at all” she’s quite literally telling herself to not feel those things that she’s “totally fine” I also love the fact the music is in the tune of “the family madrigal” up until she says “I’m not fine” I just thought that was a cool detail!
I’ve seen people complain about “open your eyes” x3 because it doesn’t get any louder or higher it just stays the same. Well there’s actually a reason for that! the song is called waiting on a miracle, mirabel is stuck in that position. She’s stuck waiting. It’s also important to note that the visual of her begging to her abuela to “open her eyes” and not being noticed implies that she’s been trying for a long time to be noticed but she keeps being stuck.
Also shoutout to Stephanie beatriz for the amazing acting because I could FEEL the emotion and the passion. and yes I know it’s because she’s in labour but I also believe even if she wasn’t in labour the song would still sound emotional as stephanie is a really great actress! I believe in an interview she stated she wanted to perform this song like it’s the first time mirabel is expressing these feelings to herself. Basically yeah that’s true she had been lying to herself for a decade and finally she decides to admit to herself she’s not fine she’s not happy and she wants a change. The voice crack on “I’m not fine” is actually heartbreaking and this is the moment her facade breaks entirely, and I love the vocal cry she does on “longing to shine like all of you shine” it’s just these little vocal details that add so much to the song and make it so powerful
I’ve also seen people complaining this song isn’t “belty” enough but it’s just not that type of song! mirabel is stuck in her position and if you notice in a lot of Disney movies once it reaches the climax of the i want song the protagonist comes to a decision of sorts. Take “how far I’ll go for example” she decides she’s going to sail beyond the reef and the music climaxes, she also has the triumphant high note at the end. Waiting on a miracle unlike how far I’ll go is NOT a triumphant song. The music does climax but only to emphasize mirabels false hope as she’s saying all the things she would do.
with the high note I firmly believe that there’s only one significant high note at the end for a particular reason. Like I said above usually high notes in Disney songs symbolize achievement or a sense of strength found. Mirabels high note has the opposite effect. She’s quite literally begging for a miracle in desperation only to realize she’s wishing for a fantasy. “Am I too late for a miracle” is the line the song ends on and the visual is important here too. We see the fireworks fade away and mirabel is left standing alone in the dark because it was all in her mind. (Looking at you “mirabels gift is time stopping” theorists)
So yeah I find this song to be quite unique and raw for an I want song and I think the “vent” aspect of it is what makes me appreciate it even more. It’s not sugar coated. To quote stephanie beatriz herself: “real, human, imperfect, yearning to belong and hoping for something beyond what she sees in herself: an expression of hope and fear, all wrapped in teen angst.”
So uh go stream waiting on a miracle because it’s a great song 👍(also yes this rant is a mess I’m terrible at articulating my feelings on songs but it’s also just for fun I’m like not a professional lmao)
